Show Description: On May 12th at 7pm & 9pm please join "3 Times Voted Best Comedian in Pittsburgh"Gab Bonesso as she returns to Arcade Comedy Theater to record her upcoming album tentatively titled Gab Bonesso: Manic Depressive. Gab is also a Nationally Awarded Mental Health Public Speaker and Children's Performer (the Josh and Gab Show). Throughout her career Gab has used comedy as a way to share her journey with mental health and to promote kindness in schools. Through her work with Josh Verbanets (Meeting of Important People front man), Gab started writing music and has been writing songs for the last decade. Her upcoming album will feature LIVE standup comedy, and original music that will be recorded in-studio. Gab is working with legendary Pittsburgh producer and musician Jake Hanner (Donora) on this project. The idea is to use both standup comedy, original music and other sounds to convey the mind of Gab Bonesso. Josh Verbanets is also working on this project as both a musician and producer. SOME STUFF FAMOUS PEOPLE HAVE SAID ABOUT GAB!!!! Gab Bonesso has been described as "the read deal and f**cking hilarious" by Curb Your Enthusiasm's Richard Lewis. TJ Miller (Silicon Valley) said that Gab was, "an AMAZING alternative comedian and not just in Pittsburgh, like everywhere." Joining Gab on May 12th are Harriet Riley and Alan Olifson. Harriet Riley, a UK native, has become a recognizable presence in the Pittsburgh comedy scene. Harriet's wit, keen eye and hilarious humor about American culture is absolutely brilliant. She is one of the best hosts in Pittsburgh and can be seen every summer hosting the Milvale Music Festival. Gab is so excited to have Harriet joining her for this special night. Alan Olifson is an award-winning humor columnist, public radio commentator, comedian and regular host of Pittsburgh’s monthly Moth StorySLAMs. He created the acclaimed storytelling series WordPlay in his hometown of Los Angeles. He’s hosted storytelling events for conferences, schools and, believe it or not, bridal showers. His book, ManChild: My Life Without Adult Supervision, is now out on Six Gallery Press. Alan relocated to Pittsburgh with his wife and two children years ago but never tires of hearing people complain about “traffic.” Gab is a big fan of Alan and so happy to have him on the show!

"The original "Uncle Tom",

Rev. Josiah Henson and wife; Dresden ,Canada (c1907)

Josiah Henson (June 15, 1789 – May 5, 1883) was an author, abolitionist, and minister. Born into slavery in Charles County, Maryland, he escaped to Upper Canada (now Ontario) in 1830, and founded a settlement and laborer's school for other fugitive slaves at Dawn, near Dresden in Kent County. Henson's autobiography, The Life of Josiah Henson, Formerly a Slave, Now an Inhabitant of Canada, as Narrated by Himself (1849), is widely believed to have inspired the character of the fugitive slave, George Harris, in Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852), who returned to Kentucky for his wife and escaped across the Ohio River, eventually to Canada. Following the success of Stowe's novel, Henson issued an expanded version of his memoir in 1858, Truth Stranger Than Fiction. Father Henson's Story of His Own Life (published Boston: John P. Jewett & Company, 1858). Interest in his life continued, and nearly two decades later, his life story was updated and published as Uncle Tom's Story of His Life: An Autobiography of the Rev. Josiah Henson (1876).

Josiah Henson was born on a farm near Port Tobacco in Charles County, Maryland. When he was a boy, his father was punished for standing up to a slave owner, receiving one hundred lashes and having his right ear nailed to the whipping-post, and then cut off. His father was later sold to someone in Alabama. Following his family's master's death, young Josiah was separated from his mother, brothers, and sisters.His mother pleaded with her new owner Isaac Riley, Riley agreed to buy back Henson so she could at least have her youngest child with her; on condition he would work in the fields. Riley would not regret his decision, for Henson rose in his owners' esteem, and was eventually entrusted as the supervisor of his master's farm, located in Montgomery County, Maryland (in what is now North Bethesda). In 1825, Mr. Riley fell onto economic hardship and was sued by a brother in law. Desperate, he begged Henson (with tears in his eyes) to promise to help him. Duty bound, Henson agreed. Mr. R then told him that he needed to take his 18 slaves to his brother in Kentucky by foot. They arrived in Daviess County Kentucky in the middle of April 1825 at the plantation of Mr. Amos Riley. In September 1828 Henson returned to Maryland in an attempt to buy his freedom from Issac Riley.

He tried to buy his freedom by giving his master $350 which he had saved up, and a note promising a further $100. Originally Henson only needed to pay the extra $100 by note, Mr. Riley however, added an extra zero to the paper and changed the fee to $1000. Cheated of his money, Henson returned to Kentucky and then escaped to Kent County, U.C., in 1830, after learning he might be sold again. There he founded a settlement and laborer's school for other fugitive slaves at Dawn, Upper Canada. Henson crossed into Upper Canada via the Niagara River, with his wife Nancy and their four children. Upper Canada had become a refuge for slaves from the United States after 1793, when Lieutenant-Governor John Graves Simcoe passed "An Act to prevent further introduction of Slaves, and to limit the Term of Contracts for Servitude within this Province". The legislation did not immediately end slavery in the colony, but it did prevent the importation of slaves, meaning that any U.S. slave who set foot in what would eventually become Ontario, was free. By the time Henson arrived, others had already made Upper Canada home, including African Loyalists from the American Revolution, and refugees from the War of 1812.

Henson first worked farms near Fort Erie, then Waterloo, moving with friends to Colchester by 1834 to set up a African settlement on rented land. Through contacts and financial assistance there, he was able to purchase 200 acres (0.81 km2) in Dawn Township, in next-door Kent County, to realize his vision of a self-sufficient community. The Dawn Settlement eventually prospered, reaching a population of 500 at its height, and exporting black walnut lumber to the United States and Britain. Henson purchased an additional 200 acres (0.81 km2) next to the Settlement, where his family lived. Henson also became an active Methodist preacher, and spoke as an abolitionist on routes between Tennessee and Ontario. He also served in the Canadian army as a military officer, having led a African militia unit in the Rebellion of 1837. Though many residents of the Dawn Settlement returned to the United States after slavery was abolished there, Henson and his wife continued to live in Dawn for the rest of their lives. Henson died at the age of 93 in Dresden, on May 5, 1883.

1. If they’re a light or heavy sleeper: laurel is more in the middle; she can sleep pretty deep when she’s exhausted, but wakes up quickly if she gets a sense of danger

What they would do if they won the lottery right now: right off the bat, she would set up a saving’s account for jake because she wants him to be ok for future expenses. she would then (sneakily) put some money in her aunt’s account both to say thank you for taking her and jake in, but also to make sure she’s ok on the expense front as well. after buying some meaningful gifts for her friends and liam, she would set aside a little for herself and the rest would go towards charities for animals in africa

3. If they have a special item that they couldn’t bear to lose: that would be the rose necklace her mother gifted to her on her 6th birthday. she wears it all the time, and if she ever lost it, laurel would never forgive herself

Different incarnations of the Elissa skirt in Andrew Riley's design

ROW 1 AND 2: Romania 2015. I don't think I ever found the answer to if they did two different skirts during the run, or if two different skirts is a part of the plot. I think the former, that the costume was slightly redesigned. The only wearer was, as far as I can tell, principal Irina Ioana Baiant (as it was a very short run).

ROW 3 AND 4: Norway 2018-2019 and Greece 2020: Brand new costume, this time the blue and red bodice over a golden skirt with golden drapes. Also a golden shawl with gold fringes. Wearers include Mira Ormala, Astrid Giske, Charlotte Brænna, Amy Manford, Celinde Schoenmaker and Glain Rhys.

ROW 5 AND 6: Middle East Tour + Europe 2023-2024: Same bodice, new skirt. This time a sky blue fabric with gold brocade pattern, under larger gold drapes. In Greece 2023 the gold shawl was kept, but during the Middle East run the shawl was changed to a red one with gold fringes. Wearers include Harriet Jones, Georgia Wilkinson, Bridget Costello, Grace Chapman and possibly Jessica Hackett and Glain Rhys.

Does art make a difference?

Aw, sure. Of course there are degrees of extremity to the potential change that art can effect, depending on how many people are able to engage with it. The Beatles made a huge difference in the world. But Henry Darger, Jeff McKissack, Karen Dalton, Pauline Oliveros, Kenneth Patchen – there are so many folks who have made great art and not gotten massively famous for it, yet I think there are all sorts of ways their work informs and shapes other people’s work, and brains, and decisions.

Should politics and art mix?

Well, everything mixes, the New Statesman! That’s like asking if a knee-reflex hammer and a quadriceps tendon should “mix”.

Is your work for the many or for the few?

That’s for the many/few to say. I just crank out the hot jams.

If you were world leader, what would be your first law?

Gravity. I feel like we need to tighten up the constitutional protections that particular law enjoys. It’s a ticking time bomb, if you ask me.

Who would be your top advisers?

Cute angel on one shoulder, cute devil on the other.

What, if anything, would you censor?

Maybe we could all agree to not bust each other’s chops all cut-dang day.

If you had to banish one public figure, who would it be?

Don’t know, banishment might be a little extreme, but I’d sure like to take that Stephen Hawking dude down a notch or two. Right? Are you with me?

What are the rules that you live by?

Basically, “bros before hos”. I feel like if you stay true to that, everything else just kind of falls into place.

Do you love your country?

Also for privacy reasons I’m not going to be showing my face or saying my name hope you understand but I did find this picture that sort of looks like me which is my profile picture. And I will be going by the name Budgie since it is apart of my username. My favorite color is yellow and I am learning Spanish at the moment. I have two pets a Jack Russell called Luna, a German Short Haired Pointer (GSP) called Milo and a Budgie called Rio. Christmas in London | Raldi

Riley felt that he was justifiably nervous to introduce Aldrich to his parents. The meeting between them would be nothing like his own meeting with the Palermos. They were warm and inviting - with the exception of Roland - and made him feel like he was part of the family. That’s despite he and Aldrich not even living together at the time.

While they were packing for London, Riley kept trying to temper his boyfriend’s expectations. His mother, Harriet, would be perfectly amiable and do a lot of the cooking for Christmas dinner. His father, on the other hand, would likely not have a lot to say to either of them. Riley knew that he was a disappointment to his father, Francis. He didn’t follow the career path that was practically laid out for him. Riley was also not married to a woman with one or two children. He never would be.

The flight to London always excruciatingly long. Riley hated long flights, despite his desire to travel. He just didn’t like sitting in one place for so long, even in first class. On a flight that long to London, he did get up to walk up and down the aisles of the plane, but he hated getting in peoples’ way. “I don’t remember if I told you, love, I hired a car to take us to my parents’ house. I just thought it would be easier than catching a cab. And their house isn’t super accessible from the tube. Especially with luggage,” he said and took a sip of the champagne the flight attendant recently brought.

Neither of my boys have formed really close friendships in their kinder (and school for Riley) years. Hattie this morning had a bit of a breakdown at kinder when she heard a girl she has made friends with wasn’t there today. The only way they managed to calm her down in the end from how upset she was, was to get her to go to the arts and crafts table and draw her friend a picture to put in her locker spot for when she’s back next week.

My best friend to this day, is the girl I made friends with on my first day of primary school. I don’t expect that to be how things WILL go with her friendships necessarily, but it’s so cute to watch her get so excited talking about what they did together that day.

All the emotions are currently really high with Harriet turning 4 in a month. How far she has come, from my teeny little micro prem, to this social little butterfly.
