Waifu Goddesses By Scottytheman Commissioned piece from @scottyartz This was a commission made for my 40th B-Day. I wanted to do a harem featuring my favorite females characters (past & present). I got inspired by a theme Roman/Greek Goddess motif by one of the MST3K Hercules movies and this was the result. Watch List- Anime and Foreign Language Animation (Latest Update Aug. 4, 2024)

Non-English Animation watch list. I keep this one separate from general shows because I vary in whether i want to watch subs or dubs, not to mention the fact that some don't have a dub at all so I can't watch some of these as casually as I can a show in English.

Because of the sheer number of things I want to watch I’m separating my watch list posts into four categories. I keep them separate primarily for organization so I can decide what to watch based different variables (mood, time, language, etc)

I'm watching Hataage! right now and honestly even though people might scoff and make jokes about how it's furry bait, anime was a mistake blah blah blah it's a genuinely funny, sweet show about a guy who isekais into a new world and immediately goes "is anyone else going to love these creatures?" and then doesn't wait for an answer

The second I read in the summary that this anime starts out with a pro wrestler German suplexing a princess as soon as they meet, my brain short-circuited and I didn’t even read what Kemono Michi was actually about because that mere mental image was so hilarious to me I thought this deserved a chance. Well...

That’s how I missed the memo that this was an isekai. Which I have not had many great encounters with in the past.

The story is that Genzo a pro wrestler disappears during his last match and gets summoned to another world. This world is your incredibly unimpressive usual isekai with the Hunters’ Guild where quests to deafeat Demon Beasts are handed out and demi-humans (humanoids with animal features) who aren’t looked upon fondly by the humans. The difference is the main character. When the princess tells him that he is The Hero and needs to defeat Demon Beasts he immediately suplexes the princess and just fucking leaves. Why? Because Genzo, his pro wrestler persona Animal Mask, is an Animal Lover. No, not an animal lover, an Animal Lover. Yeah basically he is a furry. Although he takes more interest in the Demon Beasts he keeps as pets than the demi-humans that you’d expect a furry to be more attracted to which is concerning the longer you think about it so let’s not do that and move on.

Right, so Genzo wants to open a Pet shop, a concept which doesn’t even exist in this isekai world, which is why he goes around, gains Beasts affections, then takes them home. In the anime we don’t actually see him do any Pet shop bussiness because they’re broke. And with that comes the main problems of the anime.

“They” refers to his “harem” although Genzo has no interest in any of them, nor do they care about him in a romantic sense but there’s one common thing with most isekai harems and this. They stick around with the hero for NO reason. The first is Shigure, a half wolf. She is with Genzo mostly to get money but then she is just more broke being around him in the long run than before. There’s really no incentive for her to be around him and deal with the shit Genzo keeps doing. Then there’s “Hanako” a “half-dragon” who is like some sort of a royalty among the Beasts but she wants to eat sweets so she runs away from home. She meets Genzo and that’s basically it. Her role is to: eat. At points she shows herself to be a much more rounded and interesting character but those moments are quite short. Then finally we have Carmilla, a weak vampire who is Hanako’s dedicated servant. Her role is to drink alcohol and get beaten up by Genzo and/or Beasts. Besides Carmilla and Hanako, there is nothing connecting any of these characters together nor does the anime make any effort to create something they can talk about. As the 3 of them don’t even seem to particularly care about Genzo (but are around him because isekai Rules as I said) they don’t have any fun interactions or grow closer. I honestly don’t think either of them even cared if one of them died!

Finally, the humour. It’s weird and fun at times but it’s mostly repetitive. Expect your usual episodical gags: Genzo beating someone up for calling him the Demon Beast Killer, Genzo punching Carmilla for saying something, Hanako talks about eating in situations where she shouldn’t, Shigure thinks she finally made some money only to lose it because of the “gang” etcetc. It does lose its punch after a while. There was one hilarious gag that ran across the whole series (one word: ant) but that’s it.

I actually enjoyed Kemono Michi more or less while watching but the second I started trying to figure out what I liked about the anime I couldn’t come up with anything? Everything is average or below average. I think I was just looking for some timewaster that needed no brain activity whatsoever and that’s what I got. Still, I think there are better timewasters out there that you could watch *shrug*.

Finished episode one and I have to say Kemono Michi started out strong and then went in the direction of weird that I think I've got to like absorb a bit before I can decide if it was too weird. It wasn't so much that Genzou treats the beasts like pets,but that the way it's animated comes off kind of slightly pervy? And I'm not sure how I feel about it. So we'll see how it goes.
