Spider Clock
Just in time for Halloween, here is a clock I thrifted, painted, and created the spider web/spider by scratching.

This spooky season Spider Clock has already sold.

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Greenroom, 2011.
Greenroom is a painting of acrylic on matte board from 2011.

She was inspired by a photograph of a showgirl taken in the 1960′s. Here is a close up:

For Sale: Unique Ghost Box
“Portraits of my Friend” is a six sides box, hand painted, and one of a kind. It’s available on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/HaylanMakesStuff). Each side of the box and the inside are completely different from one another!

It’s an upcycled box, with acrylic and colored pencil to create the design. I wanted to consider what a ghost would do while they spend all their time trapped in the haunted house to which they are bound.

It opens up to reveal 4 little box containers inside.

I have really enjoyed creating all the Halloween boxes and clocks in the last few years, and I really, really an in love with this one.

I am MAD.
You’ve seen in the news that Texas can’t force a 12 year old to wear a small piece of cloth over their face because it’s an infringement of their rights, but they can make people carry pregnancies and give forced birth if they are not found pregnant before 6 weeks. This does not include exceptions for rape or incest, but does include a bounty placed on anyone who helps someone obtain an abortion. Gilead much?
Most women do not find out they are pregnant before 6 weeks, and even if they do, scheduling and the prior rigmarole Texas forces women to go through make it near impossible to find out much earlier. This is all happening in a state with one of the worst maternal death rates in the country, in one of the industrialized countries with the same problem nationwide. Only Poland is behind the US. It’s disproportionally harsh on the black community (especially in the South), POC, and people living poverty. For perspective, an abortion is far safer than childbirth in Texas and in the United States. The average maternal death rate for live child birth in the USA is 17.2 per 100,000 live births. The average maternal death rate in the USA is 0.7 per 100,000 legal, safe abortions. These numbers are both higher in the state of Texas.
But this isn’t what is important in Texas to Texans who want to control others only when it suits their beliefs. It’s just that, beliefs; religion has a place in our courts and laws here, which is against the fundamental ideas of a nation founded on the separation of church and state. Your religion or personal beliefs don’t like abortion? I respect that very much. Don’t get one, and don’t force your beliefs on other people. if my religion said no one should have more than 8 fingers on their right hand, how would you like a law founded on that concept?
This is personal for every woman, anti-choice, pro-choice, don’t know or care yet; everyone. It’s personal for me; I always knew I never wanted children for a variety of reasons -- ever since I was a kid. In fact I can’t even think of a time I remotely considered it. I’m glad I made that choice because it wasn’t until I was older that I found out how medically devastating pregnancy and childbirth would be on me due to a chronic health condition diagnosed fairly recently. This same condition means I don’t get a monthly period, so I definitely wouldn’t know I was pregnant by 6 weeks, then I would be stuck with a debilitating situation that could leave me in a wheelchair, not to mention the inability to physically and financially take care of a child I didn’t want in the first place. TMI about my health and periods? Imagine how women feel being forced into pregnancy and childbirth.
The bottom line, no one has the right to tell a women how to manage her body autonomy -- not even an unborn and unformed fetus. Not you, not the law, not any religion, no one.
I have donated what I can as of now, but I want to do more. Anything on my Etsy before today (9/5/21) that sells will have 100% of the proceeds donated to fight SB8, until the law is no more. You get the item, the non-profits fighting this bill get money to protect Texas women; and help your state from being next.
Handmade jewelry, hand-painted Halloween mason jars, and a variety of yarn are available.

Welcome!
Hello Everyone! Welcome to my brand new place to share with you the things I make! I costume/cosplay, paint, sew, and altogether create. I mostly make things for myself or for gifts, but recently I’ve started selling some of my old handmade costumes, wigs, and painted items on etsy if it’s something I probably won’t use again or no longer have room for. You can see my etsy shop here (https://www.etsy.com/shop/HaylanMakesStuff).
I’ve always been a maker of all sorts of crafts and goods; always making costumes, mostly from scratch, and for a while I pursued being a painter and sold my paintings locally and nationally. I will share those on here overtime, but I do less painting of artwork these days and more on items, like vintage clocks, etc.
I usually work as a seasonal Interpretive Ranger for outdoor agencies, like National Parks and Forests, and last year when I got back from working all the way across the country from my home, I had less than a month to pull a Halloween costume off! I wasted about a week debating what I should do and not feeling any of my ideas. I had been watching The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and was thinking about how since I was a little kid I’ve always wanted to make a Skesis costume. Then I realized – I didn’t have a job or anywhere to be until school started, so why not go nuts and make one in just 21 days? I did just that. I took pictures along the way to be able to show how I did it, and that will be the first series of posts on here! I’m going to get started now and post soon. For now, here is the finished product, and come subscribe in order to see how it was all made!
