OHHHHHH like fun stuff !!! okay !!! hmm hmm !! well tbh i think the unfortunate reality of him having kiddos would be that he's still working a lot, regardless 🥺 it's such a difficult topic i think i just avoid it LOL but anyway !! i usually write us as doing the things with the little bugs bc i just imagine that we're at home a little bit more than he is, or at least have a more flexible schedule that allows to us go out and do things, or pick up gingerbread houses from the store or board games or whatever !!
as far as what he does with them.....hmm.....ykw i think this stumps me a little too bc. i guess i'm just wondering aloud here what—his view of fun would be for a kiddo ?? bc what i feel like we predominantly see of his childhood, he wasn't with his parents, he was leading his lil bully group LMAO hmm. and idk !! was katsuki getting taken to the zoo and the waterpark ?? or was he training his quirk ?? like what WAS fun for him, at that age ?? at what point in his life would he define what is traditionally "fun" for children ??
i think, when he has time, he's just very hands-on with ??? like he's pushing the couch a little out of the way in the living room and the kiddos are tag-team wrestling him on the floor LOL or—
pause. another thought. i also think it would be hard to do anything public with his family bc i think he's very private with them !! so days out are maybe very minimal ! bc he doesn't want to draw attention !!
—anyway, i can imagine him taking the family on a lake getaway trip somewhere, and they're swimming together and he's teaching his littlest bug how to move around with their life vest and hoisting the older one up in the air and throwing them as far as he can in the water LOL do you know what i mean !!! i think his love language is just—being there. that's fun for him. just getting to be involved in any way. i don't imagine him as the one bringing the gingerbread house home bc i think he's working a lot, but when he does get home, he's tossing the kids around for a minute before letting his daughter sit in his lap so she can finish working on hers. do you know what i mean !!! does that make sense !!!

#the thing is. and it doesn’t matter#but like. Ken’s love for Barbie was played as a joke but it also wasn’t#and I just think that his charisma and love should have been allowed to center her more and sort of …. I don’t know#sweep her up on the wave of his charm as she headed out of Barbieland into the real world#it didn’t even HAVE to make it full on romance#because I think the sort of splitting up of Barbie and Ken as this joined identity was good and necessary#and she had this journey to becoming human she had to take first#and tbh I think it would have worked if they had ended the movie as friends#with only the hint of something more#but the simple truth is that the most consistently human thing in the movie as far as SHE was concerned#was that he really loved her! and being loved that way. Is part of being human and even part of becoming human#it’s to feel that warmth and understand it#the Gloria thing didn’t really carry enough emotional weight for me. nor did the vague girlbossery. The creator was shoehorned in#or even the touching (in itself) montage of mothers and daughters at the end#but the realest relationship Barbie had the closest thing she had to it was being loved by Ken#and if they both became human? and she stepped into that space with that warmth of love supporting her#and making her step into this wider world? that would have been something#and the thing is yes yes. He’s basically the Michael Scott of Ken’s. He’s doing the things he shouldn’t be doing in reaction to it#and he has to learn and NOT do that and realize he’s kenough#but that stupid line at the end? Where Gloria’s like ‘honey he stole your house etc. don’t feel BAD for him’#rings hollow. especially because the General Public DID feel bad for him. He was the only one to feel bad for!!!!!!!!!#so Greta and co. Tried to make this Point about rejecting the guy who thinks you Owe him Something#But Ryan’s Ken was not really that guy! He just wasn’t! The core is too pure the love is too real! so the ending is just kinda mean#and it de-centralized her! Ironically enough!!!! Ken WANTED her to have the world. Thank god for Auden, she still refuses to allow angst to get in the way of her fluffy Frey time:
Auden acted on impulse, stood on the tips of her toes to press her lips to Frey's. After a moment in which Frey stood in frozen shock, Auden landed back on her heels and laughed a little at the stunned look on Frey's face.
"Oh, okay, you figured it out, that's cool," Frey muttered, her voice high and tight with blatant shock, and Auden giggled at her. That same glow from before lit Frey's features, a soft golden sheen like candlelight, and her hand tightened around Auden's for a fraction of a moment. Something like relief washed over Frey's face, and she raised her trembling, flour-dusted free hand to trace her fingers over Auden's cheek, silencing her giggles with that touch. "This is cool, right?"
Auden smiled and reached up to press Frey's hand into her own cheek. "If you're asking if this is alright with me, then yes. Honestly, Frey, I'd think you've never courted anyone before."
Frey flattened her hand, pressed her palm against Auden's cheek, and swiped her thumb over her cheekbone, almost absentmindedly. "I mean, not really? I've had a few flings, but nothing really... I dunno. I just don't want to fuck this up."
"You're doing fine, Frey," Auden promised. "Though I won't protest if you decide to kiss me."
"Can I?"
The smile on Auden's face widened into a grin. "I thought that was a blatant invitation. Yes, Frey, you may kiss me."

I love me a good movie with some masculine camp (Lego Batman and the Barbie movie)
#i love their representations of masculine campiness#on one hand you have lego batman that makes fun of the macho man sterotype by making batman act like a child#while also letting the jokey being this silly prankster type guy again instead of this horrible murderer and abuser#and the barbie movie shows another version of the macho man camp with Ken leaning so heavily into patriachy that he tales it too far#and becomes an awful person#but in a way that you just can't take him seriously because he's singing about just being ken and saying things like#''low commitment long distance girlfriend'' or ''mojo dojo casa house''#and being so straightforward about his toxic masculinity that it can only be really seen as a joke#and it's funny to see#i just think it's neat :]]]#lego batman#the barbie movie

finished the terror show! and i gotta say — probably not a surprise but — i liked the book better. tbh i don't think the show was long enough. like the book was SO long and despite the slow moving pace it had SO much packed into it, and i think because the show was only 10 episodes it ended up having to smush a bunch of things together and skip out of others and that totally took away from it. don't get me wrong, it's a decent show! but i think it had the potential to be even better if they'd gotten to like, take the time to faithfully adapt the book.
also there was not enough tuunbaq!!!
#the monster scenes were some of the best in the book!!! and they SEVERLY underused that big dude in the show!!!#like removing him completely from the carnivale scene? Bad Choice!!#also i was absolutely not a fan of what they did with lady silence in the show#i feel like the changes they made to her character and the plotlines surrounding her character were HUGE changes that like.#fundamentally changed a significant chunk of the rest of the plot — to the shows detriment imo#ALSO for the love of god!!!!! bring back practical effects!!!!!!!#the creature would have looked SO much cooler if it was mostly practical effects and maybe a little cgi to help#what it ended up looking like was a WEIRD (neg) uncanny valley those-animals-with-human-faces-from-barbie-movies thing that LOOKED so fake#it was laughable really#it looked like a giant polar bear with a human face and it did NOT work#they had the chance to make that thing look TERRIFYING and they didnt and that is SO disappointing and SO upsetting!!!#OH also i feel like they made hickey WAAAAAY more pathetic in the show lmfao#like he was pathetic in the book too! but oh my god he was like a thousand times more wet rat pathetic in the show#and i think they couldve done better with his power trip like they couldve done MORE with it#(i will say tho. they picked an EXCELLENT actor for that role fhsjdid adam nagaitis has a LOVELY face to look at gjdkdk)#((and so does tobias menzies. somethin about that man in that hat was just 👌👌🥴😩))#N E WAYS#i liked the show but i could have liked it even more if it had been closer to the book#the terror#mack watches the terror

it’s the way Ryan Gosling plays Ken’s feelings for Barbie for me. because the feelings are unreal and fake in the way of a doll but they’re also intensely real in the way of his actual personality/who he actually is.
#it’s the way he looks at her sometimes when she isn’t looking at him#and it’s just full of intense longing and vulnerability#so it’s that combination that I love SO much#which is over-the-top cartoonish-ness that’s full of PERSONALITY and excess and conviction#and then this core of -well I already said it but INTENSE vulnerability#it’s Michael Scott in love with Holly. It’s Schmidt in love with Cece#and the way Ryan plays it is even more so because he’s a doll and of course in a real way his love for her is not a real thing#BUT IN AN EVEN REALER WAY——#To paraphrase Michael Scott (!!!!!)#it’s the realest thing anyone in Barbieland has ever known (to paraphrase Taylor)!#like he’s the only one trying to do anything real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#and so for me my Barbie takes are all secondhand#because the story they’re telling has some narrative cracks and weaknesses in it#but also I kind of don’t care because they’re not focusing on the story that is the most interesting to me personally#which is this hilarious icon of a cartoon man who is—somewhere in the depths of his little plastic Ken heart—really in love#and I know it seems like I’m just repeating and twisting what the movie DOES say. that he’s in love but it’s fake and he has to get over it#to be his own person#but that’s only the one layer for me!!!!!!#and it’s a true one. I actually love his existential crisis and the moment where he’s forced to be his own person (doll)#and that’s the best thing Barbie could do for him in that moment#but it only addresses part of the situation —the part of his feelings that are fake. it doesn’t actually see or do anything#with the real love that’s also somehow by the magic of personality there#And it pretends it isn’t. BUT IT IS ALSKKSKSJEJJE#like I’m SORRY but he is just an absolute magnet for her and he’s so deeply responsive to her presence underneath all of the exaggeration#it’s in his eyes it’s in his voice!!!!! like. Sorry I know love when I see it akskksksksksjsj#and yeah that love is very decidedly not in her character and at this stage that made sense for it not to be#because of her journey to humanity etc. but I wanted them to do something with that real love in Ken and they don’t even see it#which is OKAY because tbh I’m mostly just delighted that it’s THERE#but yeah.
