despite the all-consuming fh obsession, I could never call myself a Jimmy understander on the same level that I understand Scott or even any other perspective I watch regularly and for the longest time I’ve wondered what makes him the exception. Come to find out: I am overestimating his complexities

His SOS tierlist got me thinking about how he views other people, and how that relates to who he is as a person. The justifications for each tier are all very surface-level or silly (“sausage put salmon in my base!! E-tier >:( “ despite being buddy buddy with him the previous episode) and I realized that’s because Jimmy exists on the surface level. Deeper reasoning and additional clauses do not exist, everything exists in simplicity (see: Martyn keeping a grudge after their fight in 3L, while Jimmy is confused as to why they can’t just act like friends anymore). How he interacts with someone is a direct reflection of how they interact with him and it’s why he folds so easily when people are nice. Jimmy is translucent, he is his emotional core and you can’t meaningfully dig deeper than that because (most of the time) there isn’t anything else there.

I remember reading ONE saying that Reigen feels pressure to do summer activities during summer cause, like, that's just what you're supposed to do. Just feels so consistent with his character cause I feel like he really just spouts as much "wise advice" as he can at mob cause that's what a mentor/big bother is "supposed" to do. Like we see him dish out legitimate wisdom but feel like we don't get shown the million fortune cookie sayings he tells mobs who definitely eats that shit up lol he just really reminds me of Jake from adventure time who's also trying to be chiller/wiser than he is.

Yes. Had that happen to me. I was in bed, he had just woken me up and I was pretty pissed about it. (I have insomnia so any sleep I do get is kinda important to me) and as this conversation is going on I start to realise this guy is arguing with me. Not realising I'm not elderly or someone who takes threats lying down.

rewatching the first season and it hit me...

...so, so much of mob's apparent gullibility is simply his having lost any sense of self-trust since ???% first broke free and nearly made him an only child. he does not, cannot, trust his own perceptions and feelings anymore, so he turns to reigen or tome or... anyone but himself. when i realized what i was seeing, it broke my heart.

for folks traumatized as kids, it's not uncommon to defer to anyone and everyone around them for a sense of what is real and true, or to feel/act as if they never got the memo on how to be a person.

BUT.

he knows how shady the (LOL) cult actually is; you can see it in his facial expressions on stage before ekubo-sama first appears. he asserts himself again with teru upon meeting him, and with his little brother when he lashes out.

it amazes me just how much of the kid's will still remains.
