Interdimensional Moms: part 1
Intro <-
Yang:So how we doin this? Drawing straws or... well we actually don’t have straws here so-
Weiss:It’s obvious that you wanna go first.
Blake:Extremely obvious.
Ruby:All over your face.
Yang:Hey now, don’t call me out like that! We all have so much to sort out here. I don’t even know where to begin. Differences could start and stop anywhere for all we really know.
Blake:From what it seems, Beacon itself would have one or two minor changes, but the real changes start after the fall. At least, for you three that is.
Weiss:You saying you’re different?
Blake:Unless you three started going on dates with Jaune at Beacon, then yes, I’m different.
RWY:(They’ve been together that long!?)
Yang:Okay, starting from Beacon...nothing really stands out too much. Jaune and I were just friends. *cringes* Back then, a certain faunus caught my eye.
Blake:Ah...right. I guess that tracks in practically every universe.
RW:Oh yeah it does. You two are joined at the hip.
Yang:Haha, really? Glad to hear it. My Blake and I are best buds! Remnant has never seen such a dynamic duo! Can’t say it didn’t take a lot of time effort after a rough patch. We actually dated in my world.
Blake:Same.
Yang:What!? How long?
Blake:I don’t know, it was pretty on again off again.
Yang:Well for me it was after Haven. Both of us had gotten pretty serious. All the growing we’ve done together and apart had brought us closer. However, Adam unintentionally put a wedge between us. His attempt to change and the problems that came with it were-
Yang stopped midway and saw the confused faces of her otherworldly teammates. They were shocked, confused even. Especially Blake, who looked the most shocked of all.
Yang:Umm did I say something odd?
Blake:Adam, he...isn’t dead?
Yang:Oh, well I guess that’s the start of the major changes then. Blake and I fought Adam at Argus. Stabbed him through the chest and watched him fall down rocks into a river.
Ruby:That lines you with my world. Dude died that day. Like any normal person should.
Yang:Well Adam is anything but fucking normal. Man has the craziest luck. A young women, the winter maiden in fact, she saved his life. She’s not exactly normal either. The maiden, Jacquelyn, ended up sticking by him to see if she could change his ways. This naturally meant we’d run into them again. And that’s how things fell apart.
Blake:What do you mean?
Yang:You were fully committed to seeing if Adam could actually change. I wasn’t, so we constantly butted heads in any situation involving him. Then we would fight about things that had nothing to do with at all. Eventually, we broke it off. We remained on decent terms but I was pretty heartbroken about the disconnect. Enter our lovable blonde idiot. Jaune did everything in his power to cheer me up.
Weiss:Sounds like him. Always such a bleeding heart. That boy just can’t help himself. Let me guess, his kindness and concern made you feel all warm and fuzzy?
Yang:Hehe, guilty. It was more of his willingness to laugh at my puns. Jaune’s always been interesting to talk to. He tries to act cool and calm even though he’s terrible at it, then comes clean right after. Before I knew it I was telling him things I hadn’t talked about with people before. I could tell he looked at me like most guys do, but also genuinely wanted to listen to me. Talk about playing unfair; he got defenseless. Suddenly I was smiling again. Anytime with him was time well spent. Then one day, I kissed him.
Ruby:Happily ever after?
Yang:Not even close! Hahaha!
Weiss:Why do you sound proud?
Yang:It’s funny looking back at it to a certain degree. Gods, I was such a brat. More than a few fights are on me. Between Blake, Raven, and other experiences, my insecurities flared up in ugly ways over nothing. It even got us to break up too. I was officially done with dating. My Ruby was out in an uncomfortable position.
Ruby:I bet! I’d never want you two fighting. Especially in my world. Picking between the person I love and my sister!? I don’t know what will happen.
Yang:I kinda do. *sets up* You’d start dating Jaune because you’ve looked at him since Beacon. The two of you would confide in each other and share a special kind of love, but it would be bittersweet. All because your sister still pines for him and never met to make him leave, and Jaune never says it, but he hates how things fell apart. He’s faithful to you and would never do you wrong, a guy to truly cherish. So... you let him go. Watch him walk back to your sister like you asked, because my happiness was worth that much to you.
Ruby:....
Yang: In my world at least. Honestly it’s still the most amazing thing I’ve seen you do. We must’ve cried over that conversation for hours. I felt so guilty and you only smiled, hugging me tight. Jaune and I had a few more stumbles. Nothing serious though. Eventually we moved in together when the world was saved. You and Oscar got together officially which made me happy. Even made our weddings a competition of who’d make dad bawl his eyes out the most. You won by the way; Raven came back into our family and into dad’s arms. Last but not least I had a baby. Yujin Xiao Long, my fucking pride and joy from above.
Weiss:Wow, that’s a lot.
Blake:What am I doing? Did I marry Sun?
Yang:Yep. You and blondes Blake, I tell ya.
Weiss:Hold the phone! Who am I with!?
Yang:Pretty sure you’re technically single. Buuuut, Neo and your have gotten pretty friendly from what I managed to interrogate out of you.
Weiss:That’s, highly unexpected. For a number of reasons.
Yang:Better believe it. Besides Cinder, a few crazies, and Salem, a few people made something of themselves. Dying sucks after all.
Ruby:You have a dead Cinder?
WBY: You don’t?
Ruby:*crosses arms* Hmph, I’ll wait my turn. Yang, you said you’re the only mother from our team. If Blake and I have been married for quite some time then what, we don’t want kids?
The joyful sunshine from Yang slipped into grayer skies. Her smile faded and it increasingly got harder to look at this Ruby without thinking of her own.
Yang:Are you sure that’s something you wanna know? I’ll tell you, but I didn’t want to bring down the mood with the problems where I from.
Blake:Problems? How big of a problem.
Yang:The biggest we’ve faced. It’s...a lot.
Ruby:Well we’ve listened this far. *takes hand* Lay it on us.
Yang:Pfft, oh boy. So...umm...another secret war came up. One that caused us to leave our friends and family for over a decade.
Weiss:A decade!?
Blake:What gets worse after Salem!? Who tries anything after a grimm queen!?
Yang:So a majority of Remnant was still unaware of her, but a fight like that can only be kept under wraps so tightly. Plenty of people still learned fractions of the truth. A few of those people weren’t exactly nice guys. They idolized her efforts and became her followers that wanted to keep her will alive, starting with taking revenge on the people who defeated her. We were so unaware. So caught up in normalcy. They ambushed us, and I mean everyone. We...we didn’t come out unscathed. Ren was crippled badly. Weiss, you almost your brother. Jaune’s family got hit but thankfully lived. The real casualties were aimed to hurt Ruby.
Ruby:Oh, of course. S-So, either you’re about to say I had no time to start a family, or...
Yang:...
Yang:When I tell you the look you made when you learned what happened to Oscar, to Qrow... that’s the moment it felt like my little sister left forever. Till this day you don’t smile like you used to. Very recently, now that it’s finally over, you’ve started looking better, but those ten years were hell. We choose to go out and fight again, avoiding contact with family. I haven’t had a real opportunity to be in my daughters life.
Ruby:How old is she?
Yang:Sixteen soon. Left her when she was four so you know. *tearing up* I missed everything. Just about anyways. Ironically it was Raven and Adam that helped her through the years with Jaune and Dad. Eventually we came back and ooohh boy was Yujin not thrilled in the slightest. Hehehe. Her right hook is really strong. I only had about a week with her before things got complicated again. *wipes eyes* But it’s okay. We left on good term. Something I definitely don’t feel like I deserve.
Blake:I can’t believe a thing like that would be possible.
Yang:Cults are a huge problem in Remnant now. You’re definitely aware of that. You actually oversee a little group from the shadows to deal with them in secret. An idea you got from experience. Adam works for you and everything. Hate to admit, but he’s become the guy you wanted him to be. Even has a family. I’m grateful to him. He personally kept my girl safe.
Blake:To think I’d hear you say that. Now I know this isn’t my world.
Yang:Don’t get me wrong, I still will hit him if given the chance. My life hasn’t been charmed and sacrifices too great were happening way too many times but it finally has gotten to a point where everyone feels like we’re taking steps towards a better future.
Weiss:Moving forward?
Yang:Yes, I was trying to avoid the phrase but yes Weiss, we’re moving forward. Still... *looks at Ruby*....
Ruby:W-What?
Yang:It’s unreal seeing you like this. My Ruby has become so strong and endured but hasn’t really picked herself up completely. All her tragedy stemmed from the loss of Oscar and Qrow; her last talk with Oscar was fight about kids too. That’s the entire reason she went off alone in the first place. Looking at you I can’t help but question my own choices. If...I just let her stay with Jaune, then maybe-
Ruby:Nope.
Yang:Huh?
Ruby:Look, if I know anything about your world, then it’s gonna be me and I can tell you without a doubt your Ruby doesn’t blame or would consider her own happiness without you. She loved you enough to take the chance to find love again. You really think there’s anything you could’ve done differently at that point. That girl is as stubborn as they come! *smiles* So buck up cowgirl. You deserve it.
A sense of warmth came over Yang as she heard those words. This other Ruby smiled at her with the same love as her own; completely caring about Yang’s feeling before her own. Yang felt so...unburdened. She couldn’t help but cry a little, laughing softly as she did. Who would’ve thought love could transcend worlds? It was so vindicating, therapeutic even.
Yang:Ruby, you’re something else entirely, you know that?
Ruby:It’s my curse. All I ever wanted was normal knees but the world said “no, special eyes!”
Yang:Well I guess I should thank the world then?
Weiss:You said your Ruby is getting better? That’s good. Still, it must be pretty weird looking at Jaune. Can’t imagine how lonely it must feel losing a love twice.
Blake:It never numbs.
Yang:Geez you two, lighten up. We can’t all be depressed. Ruby also didn’t lose Jaune. Actually....there may or may not have been an interesting...arrangement for a brief period of time.
Ruby:Ehhh what?
Yang:Hehehe well, hahaha, ummmm a decade is a very long time without feeling any kind of pleasure in a bleak situation. And you know me, I have to share things with you all my life.
Ruby:OH MY GOD!!!
Blake:*grinning* Yooooo! You loaned out Jaune!?
Weiss:That’s....accurate; in a lot of ways.
Ruby:That’s so scandalous! How could you!?
Yang:I didn’t force it! I gave the option, you said no, then you changed your mind because things got real stressful. Like come on, a decade of death and loneliness.
Ruby:Sigh...yeah. I can see it. Still, it’s so filthy. He’s a married man. What, so I’d just look at you and say “Yang I’m gonna sleep with Jaune, don’t come in the room.”
Yang:....
Ruby:What?
Yang:....Nothing.
Ruby:Bullshit! What is it!?
Yang:*scratches head* Well, I was lonely too, and a week is only so long-
Weiss:Oh so it was a group thing!!?
Ruby:WHAT!?
Yang:Only sometimes!
Ruby:SOMETIMES!?
Blake:HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! THAT IS AMAZING!
Ruby:Why are you laughing!?
Blake:Because that’s just so extreme, and not, all at the same time. I could totally see that happening.
Weiss:Same. Dang, Jaune slept with sisters. That’s dangerously close to being like your dad.
Ruby:That’s different!
Blake:Is it though?
Yang:Eh, I don’t see the problem. We’re all grown and make choices. Plus I’m the one who guided you through awkward teenage changes. It not like we didn’t share a room for years.
Ruby:That doesn’t make it okay.
Yang:Eh debatable.
Ruby:*red* It isn’t though! How could I do something so bold!? So taboo!?
Weiss:It isn’t like you’re the one who did it. Just a version of you.
Ruby:Not better!
Yang:Awwww it’s okay Ruby. Let’s hug it out. Hehehe *opens arms*
Ruby:Don’t touch me!
Weiss and Blake laugh until their sides hurt as Ruby tries escaping the bear hug that terrorized her. Yang’s world found interesting for sure. Weiss finally decides to help Ruby out.
Weiss:Got a picture of Yujin?
Yang’s eyes lit up and pulled out her scroll. Her team huddled around her and collectively cooed like that parents they are at the sight of a blonde young girl with gorgeous blue eyes with a black combat school graduation cap and gown and a certificate proudly raised up high. If it wasn’t for those eyes and shoulders length hair, they might’ve mistaken her for Yang.
Yang:She’s going to Beacon early because she’s fucking awesome like her mom.
Ruby:I think you mean her aunt?
Yang:I know what I said.
Weiss:I bet she’s just as hardheaded.
Blake:What do you think your kid is up to right now?
Yang: Well...*smiles*
xxxx
The girl in question sat at a work bench with oil on her face and her hands busy tinkering with gauntlets. She looked over at blueprints in a journal. If they were right, then she was definitely doing something wrong. How her mother made something so complex was crazy!
Yujin:Come on Yujin. You can fix a car, making gauntlets into a sword that don’t break should be easy!
Footsteps came up from behind her and a plate stacked with sandwiches. She looked up and smiled at her dad that gave her a wink, then kissed her forehead.
Jaune:Haveing fun, you grease monkey.
Yujin:Jokes on you, I like monkeys. Just a few more attempts and I’ll have the coolest weapon in Remnant. That entrance exam is as good as aced.
Jaune:Not if you don’t have a landing strategy. Tomorrow we’re going on a trip.
Yujin:Does it happen to be near a cliff?
Jaune:Who can say? Rule one of being a huntsman, be prepared for everything.
He ruffled her hair and left, laughing evilly. Yujin could tell he’s been waiting for this day. She pulled out her scroll and searched through a collection of videos labeled “mom” and found a super early one. She hit play and watched her mother give a peace sign to the camera as trees increasingly got closer from below.
Yang:Beacon rules!!!! Wooohooo!
The camera flipped and focused on a familiar blonde flailing through the air like a doll in the distance.
Yang:Oof, hate to be that guy! Wait, that’s vomit boy! Hahah, hope he survives. He owes me shoes. Poor dude. I guess he needs more training in flirting and landing. Wait, eugh I think he barfed again! Hahaha!
Jaune:Stop watching that one!!!!
Yujin:Hahaha but it’s the best one. The ending is priceless.
Jaune: *walks back down*
Yang:Well if he survives this I guess I can off him at least I can offer him mints and company. Fake it to ya make Jaune. Between me and Ruby, at least you’ll look like a player. Heh, nah, I don’t think I can support a bunny onesie.
Yujin and Jaune:*grinning* And then she did! *high-fives* Arc charm, baby!

so, like, i know youre a busy person, but if you get time, could you write martha manning meeting the squad and maybe molly??? -Myah
At some vague point in the future, the gang is going to a conference in the UK where they’ll meet Martha and her girlfriend (and John’s ex and his fiancée), but that’s not for awhile yet.
In the meantime, here’s some other stuff.
*
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Look,” the boy on the other end of the phone says, “I wasn’t saying that was gonna keep me from doing it, just pointing out a fact.”
Martha bites back a smile. “Alex?”
“Oh, yeah, sorry, hi,” he says. “Martha. Mattie. Can I call you Mattie? John always calls you Mattie. Or–John calls you Mattie when he’s not thinking about it. When he’s consciously starting a story about you he always goes, ‘My friend Martha,’ like this is the first time he’s mentioning you. Or–I guess also he’s making sure I’m not mixing you up with his sister? But. Anyway. Hi?”
“I really thought he was exaggerating how fast you talk,” she says. “It’s almost all he’s said about you, really. Normally I can’t get him to stop talking about his men, but he’s coy about you.” She stretches out on the settee--she can hear Jo banging around in the kitchen, impatient to go out and meet the rest of their friends.
Across the ocean, John’s Alexander is quiet for a moment. She’s rather sure this is an uncommon occurrence. “Really?”
“That’s how I knew how much he liked you,” she says. “He answered all of five questions before changing the subject to badger me about my love life. All I got is a picture and the fact that you’re loud and obnoxious and passionate and mean in all the same ways he is, but also very sweet.”
“’Sweet?’”
“And he got all flushed and stammer-y when he said it. Believe me, I’ve comforted John through quite the parade of terrible boyfriends. He likes you.”
“I know,” Alex says. She can hear the smile in his voice, the tremor of happiness. “I love him a lot. Like...a lot. Like....”
“A lot?” she suggests.
He snorts. “That’s proof, okay? That’s solid proof of how much I love him: he’s literally the only thing in the fucking world that can leave me speechless. I wrote a fucking essay about the hurricane that destroyed the town I grew up in, I filled an angsty tween journal with my pain when my mom died, every new exciting discovery in my field gets thousands of words of dissection, but then this stupid, beautiful asshole steps in front of me and--bam! All I can do is stare and babble and make like...vague hand gestures.”
Martha knows from stammering and vague hand gestures. She glances, unconsciously, at the kitchen again. Jo is standing on a chair to rifle through a high cabinet, scowling with determination. Martha’s heart aches.
“So,” she says, pushing through her own troubles. “Tell me about you! Like I said, Johnny was vague and secretive.” He’s told her a little more than she’s letting on, but those conversations feel more private, for some reason. mattie i’m so fucking scared of how much i love him ive only known him for like a month and a half i think Im gonna throw up.
“Uh, I’m twenty-one. I’m in the same program as John. I’m an immigrant from a tiny island in the Caribbean that you’ve probably never heard of. You’ve seen pictures, so you know what I look like. I’m pretty smart. I think John has shitty taste in beer and I don’t know how he can stand to put those dumb sci-fi movies on when he’s working. Um, my favorite color is green?”
“Favorite novel?” she asks.
“Uh, To Kill a Mockingbird. Or maybe White Teeth? Or Oscar Wao? This is a hard question. Uh, John gave me The Doomsday Book, but I haven’t read it yet. He also gave me Guards! Guards! and told me if I don’t at least appreciate it, he has to break up with me, so I’ve been putting it off, to be honest.”
“Ugh, of course John wants you to start with Guards, he’s obsessed with Vimes. Ignore him, if you’ve never read any Pratchett, start with Equal Rites.”
“No, tell him to start with The Amazing Maurice!” Jo yells from the kitchen. “I mean--I’m not eavesdropping!”
“I barely followed any of that,” Alex says. “Is there someone else there?”
“Yeah,” Martha says, “my friend Jo is waiting for me to finish up so we can go meet some people. But she’s fine waiting until I’m done with you.”
“To a point!” Jo shouts, but she’s found whatever it was she was looking for in the top cabinet and seems distracted again.
“Anyway,” Martha continues, “favorite film?”
“I don’t know if I have one? I didn’t go to the movies a lot as a kid. Maybe...um--I feel like this is a test.”
“It is, to a certain degree,” Martha says. “Okay, we’ll let you pass on that one. Are you a big partier?”
“I like people, I like socializing. I don’t know that I like partying. We go out to the bar on Fridays and have a pretty good time. Sometimes we go dancing. As long as it doesn’t interfere with my work--I’m kind of a workaholic, but, you know. I make time for my friends. I make time for John. You know we’re already dating, right? And like...living together. And while I understand you’re close, I’m pretty sure he’s not gonna dump me if I don’t pass your test. Not that I wouldn’t get lost of he did dump me. I mean, unless he was doing one of those dumb self-sacrificing things he does when he’s depressed.”
And there’s the heart of it. He’s clearly seen what John can be like when he’s down and he’s still here and he’s pledging to stay through those times. That’s all Martha can really ask for. She’s an ocean away, he’s pushed away his family, and he’s all alone somewhere new. She needs to know there’s someone on his side. She needs to know that someone is taking care of him when he’s too bloody stubborn to take care of himself.
“Well, it’s fine because you’ve passed,” she tells him. “Your prize is taking care of Johnny when he’s being a pill.”
“That’s kind of a lousy prize, seeing as how I’m already doing it. But I also get him when he’s brilliant and excited, so I guess it evens out.”
“Brilliant,” Martha repeats. Her smile is downright giddy as she thinks back to all of the idiots John’s dated for the past five years.
“So brilliant,” Alex says. “And just--passionate. Brilliant and passionate and thoughtful and dedicated and...and...just...fucking radiant. He’s just--this is what I was saying, this is what I was telling you, I don’t have words, okay?”
“Okay,” Martha says, still smiling. “Well, it’s been lovely chatting with you, Alex, but I think my friend is going to disassemble my kitchen if we don’t leave for the pub soon.”
“Yeah, John should be done soon, I can hear him bitching at the doctor from here. Just one last thing--’Johnny?’”
“Did he tell you he covered for me when we were fifteen and pretended to be my boyfriend for a family visit?”
“No...”
Jo is tapping her foot impatiently by the door. They’re not even late yet, but that’s Jo--insufferable when she’s bored. Martha would strangle her if she wasn’t so pathetically smitten.
“Very quickly, then--my mother and grandmother were trying to set me up with an eligible boy back home. This was before I had even really admitted to myself that I was gay. So, while I was on the phone with them, panicked, John told me to tell them I already had a boyfriend, which I did, and then when they asked who it was and I panicked more, bless him, he pointed at himself and I told them it was him. Then, of course, when they came to visit for a family week a month or two later, we had to actually pretend to be together. Johnny was out to everyone, so there was a lot of bribery going on that week to keep other students quiet, and he was so very awkward, so everything was over the top.” Alex laughs and so does Jo, who’s leaning forward against the side of the couch to listen, now. “I called him ‘Johnny’ in this treacly voice and even after my parents went back to London, it stuck. It was a lifesaver, really--he even fell on his sword and kissed me a few times, which is what really confirmed my lesbianism. You don’t have a boy like that kissing you and feel vaguely disgusted if you’re even the least bit heterosexual.”
Alex laughs again. “Don’t I know it.”
“So, very long story short, he hated Johnny and declared that only ex-girlfriends get to call him that when Francis and some of our other friends started picking it up, which limits its usage to me.”
“Good to know,” Alex says. Then, “Hey, baby, you good to go?”
“I’ve got a script to fill, but fuck that, the ER visit’s gonna cost me enough as it is.” That’s John, unmistakably, and Martha misses him terribly all at once.
“Don’t be an asshole.”
“It’s just pain stuff. It’s basically extra strength Advil, I’ll be fine without it.”
“Yeah, whatever, don’t think I’m not gonna call Mrs. W and get her opinion, because--”
“--are you on my phone?”
“Um.”
And then grunts and grappling and muttered curses and then, panicked, “Shit, Mattie?! How long have you been talking to him? What have you told him about me? What the fuck?”
“I’m sorry, darling, Jo and I are late for drinks,” Martha says, grinning. “We can make up our FaceTime date tomorrow, yeah?”
“Mattie, I swear to fucking god--”
“I love you, Johnny!”
He’s still cursing when she hangs up. Jo’s staring at her, one-eyebrow raised, which gives her one last pang of missing John, who shares that genetic quirk.
“Does he get to give your girlfriends the same interrogation?” Jo asks.
“Well, I’ve not dated anyone seriously enough to find out, yet,” Martha says, grabbing her bag and shoving her mobile into the middle pocket.
“I’m sure you will soon,” Jo says, squeezing her arm and leading the way out of the flat and down to the street.
“I’m sure I will,” Martha mutters glumly, watching Jo leave for one long, miserable second before she grabs her coat and follows.

I heard good buzz about this documentary out of Sundance 2020, as it looks at the power of social media and the effect it can have on the world

THE TWILIGHT SAGA (Catherine Hardwicke, 2008/Chris Weitz, 2009/David Slade, 2010/Bill Condon, 2011/Bill Condon, 2012)
I’ve only seen one of these (I think New Moon?), but want to give them a whirl at some point.  Maybe now is the time?

A somber, sweet look at Winnie the Pooh and the 100 Acre Woods gang.
  D2: THE MIGHT DUCKS/D3 (Sam Weisman, 1994/Robert Lieberman, 1996)
D2 is the best of the trilogy, but D3 is pretty good and bit underrated.
  MULAN (Niki Caro, 2020)
You have to pay $30 to see this one, but I have a feeling Disney’s latest live-action feature is going to be worth is.
NEVER BEEN KISSED (Raja Gosnell, 1999)
A classic 90’s rom-com featuring a delightful Drew Barrymore.

One of the best X-Men films and the BEST Wolverine movie (hot take).
    CRITERION CHANNEL
Full list of everything coming to Criterion Channel in September can be found here.
*The Criterion Channel does things a little differently than every other streaming service.  The Criterion Channel, a wonderful streaming service that focuses on independent, foreign, and under-appreciates movies, doesn’t just throw a bunch of random movies to stream.  They get more creative by having categories like “DOUBLE FEATURES” or “FILMS FROM…”, giving us curated lists of films that somehow blend together or feature a specific artist.*
    BOYHOOD (Richard Linklater, 2014)
Richard Linklater’s ambitious twelve-year project is one of the finest film accomplishments of the last decade.
THE LOVELESS (Kathryn Bigelow, Monty Montgomery, 1981)

Three provocative films from a master documentarian.
Actress (2014)
Kate Plays Christine (2016)
Bisbee ’17 (2018)
  DIRECTED BY ALBERT BROOKS
Albert Brooks is one of the greatest comedic minds we’ve ever had.  This block of films looks at his genius behind the camera.
Real Life (1979)
Modern Romance (1981)
Lost in America (1985)
Defending Your Life (1991)
Mother (1996)
DOUBLE FEATURE: TEARS OF THE CLOWN
LENNY (Bob Fosse, 1974)
JO JO DANCER, YOUR LIFE IS CALLING (Richard Pryor, 1986)
Two unflinching films delve into the self-destructive dark sides of a pair of comedy legends. Lenny features Dustin Hoffman in a jagged portrait of Lenny Bruce.  In Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling, Richard Pryor draws on his own personal demons in the only narrative feature written and directed by the comedy legend.

Not depicted: Any side characters for stories (example: Alejandro’s family, Traci’s family, Garrett’s old bff, Oscar’s pals) bc they don’t get any development, any fandom ocs (so, warrior cats and gem ocs), and co-owned ocs (Mattie+Mako’s kids, Sikey+Grey’s kids, and Ziker+Grey’s kids)
Here’s a small blurb about each one but if u want 2 kno more abt any of em, hmu! I love talking abt my ocs :”) ((not all at once tho u gotta specify who u wanna hear more abt))
Sikey – My oldest and FAVORITE oc! She’s the most developed tbh. She’s married to Grey (Moe’s OC); her age depends on the artwork (because sometimes I’ll draw stuff abt her from her past or even like future au’s so yeah. Typically in the late 20s – early 30s age).
Ziker – He was actually originally Sikey’s “”genderbender”” (yikes lmao). But his personality was like 10x more different and I decided “hey u kno what. He’s his own guy”. He’s a trans boy whose two years older than Sikey, and he’s married to Grey’s brother Gery (Moe’s OC).
Carrie – Sikey + Ziker’s mom! She got out of an abusive relationship after Sikey was born (like, a year or so after. The boyfriend abandoned her + her kids) but she’s been a HELLA RAD mom. She moved from Italy when Sikey/Ziker were around 2-3 and 4-5 (trying 2 give her kids enough time to learn English as well as Italian). Never really hooked up with anyone else but in a certain verse/au monster version of carrie ends up dating alejandro’s mom, Rosita ! idk if it’s the same for human verse (which, probably is I mean. They all have human versions idk why I drew alejandro/garrett/traci and banner/Oscar/Vicky/Adelaide as their monster/anthro uehguh versions when htye have canon human designs and actually kinda take place verse??? Idk I guess its bc I introduced alejandro/garrett/traci as those designs). She’s in her 40’s-50s depending on sikey’s age
Mac – another old oc! He’s mute and really friendly and loves jokes. Mainly sex jokes. Fucking shameful boy. Age typically in late teens, like 18+
Rachel – yet another old oc! She was actually just sikey’s friend and mac’s friend but ive changed it now so that Rachel is mac’s older sister! She’s around the same age as sikey
Opal – she has vitiligo and DID. She’s nicky’s bff and she’s not exactly that developed : (….she does have cameos w/ Nicky in a few of my works such as FNJB. Like I said not much of her is developed! Idk how many alters she has but 2 of them include a nervous jittery boy in his teens, paranoid of work and shit; another is an aspiring actress and loves being dramatic for literally no reason. Stubs her toe? Flings herself onto the table and wails a monologue.
Nicky – asHFDUF I had a lot of stuff abt them but I forgot bc I never wrote it down so they’re still in rough development. They’re a few years younger than opal, and agender. They also may either have autism or OCD (or both). I do know they like to collect items such as shells and caps and shit, and they associate specific moods + feelings with said items so if they’re feeling a certain way towards someone they give them the items
Mattie – another old oc asufdshf. He’s one of the most developed and he’s a BASIC BITCH I hate him. Ugh. Fucker. He’s boyfriends w/ Moe’s oc Mako and they have like 80 kids pls chill n slow tf down
Atticus – mattie’s bff. He’s bi and chill and a BIG BARA BOY. Trying 2 hook up n date moe’s oc alec. Cuties…. He used 2 have a giant crush on mattie but its passing now bc hey matties in love w mako (they’re.. pretty close 2 getting engaged I mean,,)
Sandra – another friend of matties squad! She’s like, the mom figure and codie’s girlfriend. She also has a younger brother ronny whose a PIECE OF SHIT its unbelievable they’re related. I love sandra
Codie – super chill trans gal. she loves to lounge around and helps Sandra babysit sometimes; she has an odd love for board games. What the heckie. Also dyes her hair pink bc. Pretty. Also she has a younger brother named tye whose the youngest of the squad
Reese – a new oc! He’s p chill. Screen gets stabbed by todd and bb keeps almost getting him killed. Let this kid rest he’s so tired.
Todd – FUCKING. MEAN!!!!!!!!!!!! He has a chest mouth and HES MEAN.
BB – a little SHIT BAG. Literally a walking and talking tablet who makes sexual innuendos and jokes abt porn. Fucking . aisdfudfsd
Adrien – adventurous trans boy made of slime! Said slime is flavored chocolate strawberries. He likes to go on adventures and has ,, cat ears + tail made of a more gummy material idk. anyways he likes to adventure and calls his grappling hook his baby
Tally – a sweet goirl. Probably trans I haven’t developed her a whole lot either. Used 2 date Sparta but they broke if off bc “eh we’re better as friends”. Makes a few cameos in other works such as FNJB. Bffs w Sparta and emmelie (chey’s oc)
Sparta – originally a tiger kid but, eh. Not anymore. genderfluid and LOVES TO FUCKING PRANK ANYTHING THAT MOVES, PLEASE CHILL TF OUT. Bffs w/ tally and also dating emmelie (chey’s oc). Fun fact I call these three the “Greek Squad” bc sparta’s named after an ancient Greece city, tally’s middle name is Athens, and emmelie is greek!!
Marlene – a luna moth trans girl!! Not very developed bc shes relatively new (as are poodle, Julia, bb, reese, and todd). She’s the Mom Friend of her squad and an elegant beauty
Poodle – a poodle moth trans girl. She loves wearing wooly and cotton-y stuff and her wardrobe is just. fluff. She’s really cute and a social sweetheart and is gay 4 the punk goirl Julia.
Julia – a rosy maple moth (originally based on skull’s head moth but, changed). She’s a kickass punk (also she’s a DFAB agender person who uses they/them or she/her!). dating poodle and ghost written by henna
Oscar – a trans demiboy deer guy. He goes on adventures with banner and loves nature and cute aesthetics and shit. Probably runs an aesthetic blog. Travels through space w/ banner + Vicky/Adelaide. Oscar’s best friend (also may be dating them idk ?)
Banner – agender badass alien. Literally made of stars and shit. Travels space w their best buddy Oscar and eventually picks up Vicky and Adelaide. It’s a fun time yo.
Vicky – is a trans girl and has DID. Big, buff, and loves 2 snack and eat. Adelaide’s best friend and also super menacing (despite actually being. Really sweet and gentle. A placid pal). I haven’t developed much on her alters yet. One of them is mean and insults everybody’s fashion sense.
Adelaide – WILL SHOOT ANYTHING THAT MOVES IF SHE’S GOT HER ARROWS. MADE OF ANGER AND SPITE. LOVES TO GET INTO FIST FIGHTS. U were scared of Vicky? Think again fuckers adelaide’s the real menace. Another trans goirl
Garrett – oh man please let him rest why is he always getting stabbed
Alejandro – oh man please stop this kid why r they always getting garrett hurt
Traci – oh man give her a BREAK PLEASE SHE’S TIRED.
