2. Album of the year?

It's The Great Impersonator by Halsey for me! I got diagnosed with a chronic illness this year, so this album where they speak about their chronic illness/brush with death came at the perfect time for me.

22. Favorite place you visited this year?

Ooh, I'm stuck between two... The Art Institute of Chicago absolutely blew me away. I loved it a lot. Also, when I came to the UK earlier this year, I genuinely enjoyed my little stroll through Leeds (just in general) from the train station to the tattoo shop I was heading to... Lovely city you Brits got there! I'm trying to come back to the country next year, but we shall see!

23. If you could send a message to yourself back on the first day of the year, what would it be?

To go along with the previous question... Maybe just the fact that like, "Hey, you WERE able to travel this year! You conquered both your fear of flying and doing things alone by traveling both within your country AND out of country!" Every year I tell myself "I'm gonna travel!" and then every year (other then this one), I don't do it. Terrible, and quite expensive, habit now that I've done it though because I just want to do it more and more...

very well i accept…. i obviously don’t have the same Lad Encounter Opportunities that you find yourself in at this time so I had trouble conceptualizing this as a top 5 but I have instead identified three loose categories

the first time I met jeremy, post-Foals in april 2019, and he walked straight toward me all smiles as if we were already the best of pals and he knew precisely who I was; the first time I met jon, california RDF 2022, when he had already seen me but I was patiently waiting my turn but then he approached me and very forcefully and ominously opened with “I know who you are” (this is also horrifyingly recorded on video); the first time I saw each of them on the east coast pre-MH 2023 tour, which was philadelphia, and they both did NEARLY THIS EXACT SAME THING: jez approaching me to instigate hugging me and him (and mike) apologizing for missing me the previous night, and jon appearing out of nowhere/from behind me and just laying his hand on my shoulder and going “hello.” awful

just, the entirety of october 7 2023… me sending them donuts and jon telling me he’d already got one on his own and then they came back and a box of them had arrived… me jokingly groveling for Engine Room and these madlads actually fucking doing it, including jon deliberately trying to ‘accidentally’ yank his setlist out of eyesight from me (long after I had already seen it mate sorry)…. the big hug he let me give him afterward…. him lowkey revealing the existence of Stay With Me to me at that time. man. man hang on a second 🥲

the insanity that is them reaching out and offering to put me on The List™ not once but twice. fully unsolicited the first time (pete sené so sweet so kind) (it was for my friend and not me but still) and just because I was being pitiful on twitter the second time (mike spearman loml). and also them asking me to share my GTH costume on their instagram in 2018. and also jon higgs liking a tweet of mine that was just a picture of my cat

the time i bumped into jeremy pritchard on the way to dinner with my best friend and their family and he decided to stop and chat to me briefly, much to my girlfriend's chagrin

the first conversation i ever had with jon higgs, where he asked me a question about qanon that i was reading something about earlier that day and i felt like i was Fully Dying

the time jon said it had been "nice" to see me at a book event we'd both been at several months prior and not interacted at (i still think about this) (huh) (cheers man)

Peter Peter Double Feature where either in the same ep OR in back-to-back thematically linked eps we would a) finally have Panto Pete Broadhead actually on the show with all his bandmates and then b) Peter Sené. obvs. i think it has to be separate eps honestly lmao I feel like theyre on two too opposite ends of the chaos/sweetness spectrum but like let’s just pack this show full of as many pleasant dads as possible. i’m just enjoying the mental image of pete sené and robin richards chitchatting so sweetly.

i was like “who’s bri’ish but would be a wild outside answer that would never happen in a million years” and my brain immediately went “well, dropout’s siobhan thompson.” LOL BUT ALSO: her perspective on the comedy scene vs. their thoughts on the music industry could be cool and also she’s gluten-free so that throws an interesting twist into the chippy side of things

15. Are you a different person now than you were 5 years ago?

On a fundamental level, no. Most of 26 year old me is still here, but just with more health problems. However, I do work a better job then I did then. I got out of retail hell and it’s been wonderful.

24. What did you get your last bruise from?

There was some bruising on one of the two new tattoos I got, but it went away real quick.

32. What were you doing before you got on the computer?

The last time I got on my laptop was this morning while I was getting on my plane in the airport at Manchester, so I was going through typical airport duties (going through security and all that) before that.

Favourite album: Beachcomber's Windowsill by Stornoway has been my favourite for 15 years so I'd probably have to pick that, but Hozier, The Wombats, Maisie Peters and Death Cab For Cutie are all very very close behind.

Favourite album released in the last year: I'm cheating and picking one for 2025 and one for the last full year, so Oh! The Ocean by the Wombats for this year, Unreal Unearth: Unending for last year.

Food you're craving right now: I am craving literally no food and this is a PROBLEM, I'd eat a sorbet if I had some nearby though

Favourite type of weather: Warm in the sun but cool in the shade, enough breeze that you aren't too warm but not too cold if you're sitting still, t shirt and jeans ideally.

Ideal time to sleep and wake up: 2:30am and between 11:30 and 12:30

Dream job: I always say I'd like to be an academic with some pastoral role, which is true but ideally I'd do that most of the time and then an author the rest of the time.

Dream music collab: Stornoway and Hozier, this blog would be fucking incomprehensible.

One piece of advice for your past or future self: Just because an experience didn't go the way you wanted or expected, doesn't mean it wasn't worth it.
