💜 Year in Reflection 💜
Thank you for tagging me @loveislarryislove. I’ve never done one before but it seems very fitting with my new year’s resolution to take a little bit to reflect on 2021.
1. Number of stories posted to AO3: 22
2. Word count posted for the year: 571,618
3. Fandoms I wrote for: The 100 and Vikings (although most of the Vikings stuff is not posted).
4. Pairings: So damn many. I’m a multi-shipping bitch. Lots of poly ships too. Featuring a lot of Spacekru
5. Story with the most…
Hits: darkness of the soul
Kudos/Bookmarks/Comments: War of the Flame
6. Work I’m most proud of (and why):
Two come to mind:
darkness of the soul because it was the first long fic I have completed in over a decade. It has its flaws but overall, still very proud of it.
in one kiss, you’ll know all I haven’t said. It was a collaborative work with @sailawaymayday and just meant to be lighthearted fun. it ended up being something really tender and I fell madly in love with it. I am very proud of it.
7. Work I’m least proud of (and why):
the final girl. It was a halloween fic for Troped  (@troped-fanfic-challenge) and I wrote it at one of the most difficult periods of time in my life. The idea was good but I thought my execution was sloppy. It isn’t terrible but it could have been better.
8. Share or describe a favorite review you received:
Every single time I surprised @sailawaymayday or made her blush or laugh.
Also @romanoffonamor left me some great reviews and provided enthusiasm at some challenging points. My favourite of hers: I totally gave up working my lesson plans in order to read this!
I don’t get oodles and oodles of reviews so any time anyone posts even so much as an “I liked this”, I am beyond delighted. I also super appreciate constructive thoughts and critique. A now deleted user sent me some very thoughtful critique on one of my fics and I thought it was interesting and helpful and I appreciated the time they took to do that.
9. A time when writing was really, really hard:
Everything from mid July to the end of the year. Everything felt hard, especially in September-October when it felt impossible and the words were like molasses - just stuck together and made no sense.
10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:
I wrote way more ‘nice’ characters than I am used to. Where did all my villains go? IDK
11. A favorite excerpt of your writing:
Legitimately no clue.
12. How did you grow as a writer this year:
I had to step back from roleplay writing but I found it interesting to translate those skills into a different format. I haven’t written fanfic in years and when I did it (way back in the age of the dinosaurs), I just wrote in notebooks and didn’t post in anywhere. So growing in boldness to actually write and post and have it be imperfect but opening up to being read and critiqued by others was fantastic.
13. How do you hope to grow next year:
More boldness, more talking about writing, more writing and getting back into roleplaying.
14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):
There were three, who are, in no particular order:
@sailawaymayday Who was my beta reader, friend and best cheerleader.
@catsfilth and @helloxstrawberry who kept engaging with me, no matter how shitty my life was feeling at the moment and even created an rpg and encouraged me to join. It really helped me reengage with the community. Also gotten to write some ‘funny’ moments in the rpg, which I find challenging because genuinely funny is always hard to capture. So that was amazing.
15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:
Only by complete accident. I started writing a fanfic whereby one of the parental figures had a brain tumour. posted about a thirdish of the fic and then found out my mom had one. Like what the actual fuck.
16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers:
Write, post, get a beta reader who will read everything you write without limitations.
17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:
Too too too many. I have a Vikings one for Vikings Big Bang. @vikingsbigbang2022 that is about a third written and the rest is plotted out and I am so excited to finish it. I am getting art made for it by not just one but TWO fantastic artists. Over the moon about that one.
I also have a The 100 fic that is called the Season that I have been writing off and on for months. Nothing is posted and it is a little disjointed and all over the place right now but I am super in love with it and looking forward to making it cohesive and then starting to post it sometime in 2022.
18. Tag some writers whose answers you’d like to read:

OC: Andy’s creation was done with @losersclubisms and for anyone interested in his (and the other Losers 2.0) here’s what our headcanons were. Andy’s core creation was in a Poly-ship of the original Losers. His core age (for any fics is 15. His age for Rps depends on the verse):
•Mike is closest to everyone equally. He tries spending equal amount of time with each Loser in turn. He’s secretly the most fond of Bill.
•Bev is closest with Bill and Ben. When she’s not with one or the other, she can probably be found playing around likely with Richie. She isn’t intimate with Rich often unless it’s a special occasion or she’s really craving his touch.
•Bill is closest with Stan and Bev. He’s almost always found with Stan if he isn’t with Bev. If he’s not with Stan or Bev, there’s a high chance he’s with Eddie or Mike.
•Richie and Eddie are closest to each other and are nearly inseparable. Richie shares a room with Eddie because he refuses to sleep alone. He will sleep in another Loser’s bed if Eddie is away for work or something else. Rich’s secretly almost as close with Stan as he is with Eddie
•Stan is closest with Bill, Richie and Eddie. He’s perfectly content admitting his closeness with Eddie and Bill, but he denies how close he actually is with Richie. Of all the Losers, he’s close to Bill much like Richie and Eddie are.
•While Eddie spends most of his time with Richie(or Stan), he’s actually really close to Ben of all the other Losers.
••••••••••••••••
•Richie gets stupid blackout drunk and sleeps with some girl. She ends up pregnant. That’s the first babe in the Gen 2 Losers.
•Bev, Stan and Eddie are the most affected by Richie’s stupidity. Bev because she’s the only female that Richie will have any sort of intimate contact with. Eddie because he’s the one closest to Richie and Richie was his boyfriend before the group ended up together as a whole. Stan because Richie is one of the three main ones Stan is intimate with.
•Bev forgives him six months after.
•Eddie breaks Richie’s nose and glasses. Stan and Eddie refuse any type of intimacy with Richie for nearly a year (11 months two weeks and three days to be exact). Surprisingly Stan is the one to break it one day with a kiss and a quick “I forgive you” in passing. Eddie takes a few days longer and quite literally pounces the taller man when he walks into their room to snag some clothes.
•Richie never drinks when he’s not with at least two of the other Loser
••••••••••••••••••••••••••
•Rosa was born first from Richie’s stupidity(as Stan and Eddie dub it). She has a sense of humor as crude as her father. She’s basically Trashmouth Junior or TJ. She’s 18. She likes to tease Richie about being the “mistake child”.
•Aiden is 17 and while he has a sense of humor, it’s aimed more or less into pulling pranks. He’s as emotional as Richie. Selena is his fraternal twin through in-vitro.
•Georgia is 17 and a few months younger than Aiden. Selena and Rosa are her two bestest friends. She was named after Georgie.
•Selena (17) is a lot like her dad in the hypochondriac department. She likes cleanliness and has a First Aid license. And a CPR license.
•Zachary is 16 and is basically a clone personality wise of Stan. Only difference is that he’s far braver and will be first to jump into something dubbed scary.
•Sabrina (15) and Charlotte are a few days apart in birth. They’re best friends. Sabrina likes to spend time with Stan any chance she gets and enjoys baking. She is Andy’s fraternal twin.
•Charlotte is as poetic as her dad and as artistic as Bill. Besides her mom and dad, she hangs out with Bill, learning to paint and stuff like that.
•Daniel is also 15 but older than Charlotte, Sabrina and Andy by at most eight months. He likes spending time at the arcade with Andy and studying history of the world with Ben.
•Andy (15 but still youngest) is the baby of the group but one of the bravest. He also happens to be the complete opposite of his dad. Though he does have the same medical licenses as his dad and sister. He spends a lot of time with Daniel when it comes to the kids but of the OG Losers, Richie is his favorite one to spend time with. He usually calls the others uncle or Mom in Bev’s case. He calls Eddie dad and Richie he calls Papa (or Papa Richie). When he’s feeling affectionate, he calls the others Papa then their names. The ones that get title of Papa most are Richie, Stan and Bill. Andy respects all of the adults and can be rebellious as any teen can be but if Bill, Stan or Richie says no (which isn’t often for Richie) he listens with no questions or objections. Calls Eddie mom sometimes (thanks to Richie). Even though Andy is closest to Richie, he turns to Bill when he’s feeling vulnerable.
••••••••••••••••
•While Bev is biologically the mother to Georgia and Charlotte, all the kids call her mom because she’s basically been their mother since the beginning of it all. Anytime somebody asks her if she has kids(or how many), she tells them she has nine kids. It usually shocks people into asking how does she handle so many which results in her mentioning their dads helping. Many ask how many dads are involved and she tells them all six dads are involved.
•Bill would be the most protective of all of the kids. He loves each and everyone of the kids and loves spending time with them any chance he gets. He uses the money from his career (because he’s finally gotten good at book endings) to build their home. Bill is always adding things to the house with Ben’s help
•Ben likes (and so does Mike) to spoil the kids as often as he can. He built the entire house the Losers live in. The entire first floor is reserved for the kitchen, living room, family game room(all sorts of games) and the theater room. Second floor is the parents room. Each parent has a room of their own (including Richie and Eddie but Richie spends so much time with Eddie in either of their rooms there’s a spare). The girls have the next floor and the boys have the last floor. All rooms are soundproof to keep from disrupting the parents
•Mike is usually the one to cook because he likes that everyone enjoys his food. He also likes sneaking presents to the kids when they’ve been good. He also keeps the secret that Andy adores books (much like Ben) and history (much like Mike). Mike is the one that’s taught all of the kids how to use a gun and weapons (because you never know what they might need to face one day).
•Richie is whipped for the kids and loves each and everyone of them. While his kids are much like he is with humor, he actually spends the most time with Andy. As whipped as he is for all of the kids, Andy is one that holds a special spot (mostly because he’s the baby). Often Richie will crash some place in the house and Andy will be found tucked under his arm or sprawled over the older man because the boy moves a lot in his sleep.
•Surprisingly Stan is not the strictest parent in the group. While he does expect everyone to do their chores and homework before play, he doesn’t tend to blow up on the kids like Eddie can sometimes do. Stan (and Bev) have taught the kids interested how to bake. Unbeknownst to the other Losers, Stan has taught Andy how to play piano and violin.
•Eddie is, not too surprisingly, the strictest parent. He always makes sure everyone is absolutely spotless before they’re allowed to eat or touch anything (especially in the kitchen). He always claims he wishes his son spent less time with Trashmouth but in all honesty, he loves their bond. He never fails to get as many pictures of the kids as he can either. Especially during holidays
••••••••••••••••
•Georgia Marie Denbrough(Julie Kennedy) - Bill/Bev
•Zachary Adam Uris (Lucas Jade Zumann) - Stan/Surrogate
•Sabrina Monica Uris (Millie Bobbie Brown) - Stan/Surrogate
•Rosa Edith Tozier(Cameron Bicondova) -Richie/Hookup
•Aiden Mitchell Tozier (Daniel Sharman) - Richie/Surrogate
•Selena Alora Kaspbrak (Anna Popplewell) - Eddie/Surrogate
•Andrew Davis Kaspbrak(Noah Schnapp) Eddie/Surrogate
•Charlotte Selene Hanscom (Sadie Sink) - Bev/Ben
•Daniel Mathew Hanlon(Caleb McLaughlin) - Mike/Surrogate

FAQ
In General
Do you take requests? My guy, without requests, this blog will go dry very quickly. We are high maintenance and require a lot of attention.
Will you write all requests that you receive? We reserve the right not to write a request if we don’t vibe with it. We will explain why we won’t, and whining won’t change our minds. Otherwise we will do our absolute best to see that all requests get written.
What if I don’t like something in your fics? If you see something wrong in our fics, feel free to let us know politely. If you are rude, we will make a note of what annoyed you and we will feature it prominently in our following fics until you (or someone nicer than you) asks nicely for us to change it. If it is a trigger we won’t do that, obviously, but we will do our best to tag so that doesn’t happen. Don’t read things if they have a trigger warning for something that triggers you. I shouldn’t have to say it, yet here we are. If you dislike the characterization, we can open up a dialogue and maybe we’ll write you one with a characterization that you prefer. Or maybe we’ll tell you to shove it. Depends on how things go. If you dislike the things we write about (e.g. Death Eaters from Harry Potter), then don’t f***ing read that fic. Blacklist it, whatever. We know why and how they are problematic, we just dgaf. It’s for fun.
Why don’t you have a masterlist/other Tumblr things? We are new to this whole writing thing, Midnight to Tumblr in general, and Serpentine has never written her own post before, so be patient. We are learning this whole thing as we go, and it was meant as more of an experiment than a job anyway. We will do our best to make a masterlist and make the blog easy to search, but it has a learning curve, so don’t be surprised if we don’t manage right away (or ever)
Do you have a tag list? We could try?
How often do you update? Depends on how much love and attention we get. If we get a lot of requests, we’ll be doing a lot of writing, Real Life™ allowing.
Can I reblog? If you make sure our names are still on it, you do what you like, my guy.
Can I tag you in things? Can I give you an internet hug? Ofc. Remember what I said about attention?
Can I message you? If it is for requests, we’d prefer you keep it in the asks, but if you wanna say something, then sure. Keep it PG for Serpentine’s virgin eyes tho. (Serpentine can deal with it, don’t be a wuss - Midnight) (You’re a wanker - Serpentine)
What don’t you write? Incest, non-con, A/B/O (bc Midnight will die), m-preg, underage anything ever, etc. Just keep it level guys. Don’t make it weird.
What happens with any original fiction that you post? I won’t post much of it, and it won’t be anything that I ever have intentions on making into A Thing™ so it’s basically just like our fanfics, go ahead and reblog if you feel just keep our names attached. Also, try not to write anything based off of it or anything like that, but if it sparks something, you do you. We’re reasonably chill until you’re a dick. (Then we’re chillier than a frost giant’s cold shoulder - Midnight)
What happens if I want to be a prick about your writing while on anon? Come at me, bro.
What types of requests do you take? We’re going to try to have a prompts list, or borrow some from fellow writing accounts that are okay with others using their lists, but prompts that you come up with are definitely great! Imagines, multi-chap fics, one-shots, drabbles, headcanons, it’s all fair game.
Serpentine
Name/Nickname: Serpentine, Holly, Andy
Age: 18
Pronouns: she/her/My Lady
How would you describe yourself: I would not
Are requests open: Yes
What do you like writing most: Fluff. I love it when everyone is peaceful.
What do you like writing least: Character bashing. Sometimes I have to for the sake of the plot, but it hurts.
Who do you write for: Marvel - Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, Loki, Thor, Dr. Strange, Clint Barton, Pietro Maximoff (he didn’t die hmmm nope), Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal only), Brock Rumlow (don’t say anything Midnight, I know he’s a dick, leave me alone), Anatoly Ranskahov, Vladimir Ranskahov. Harry Potter - Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Charlie Weasley, Fred Weasley, George Weasley, Draco Malfoy, Antonin Dolohov, Thorfinn Rowle, Rodolphus Lestrange (although I characterize him as fatherly more than anything), Rabastan Lestrange (although don’t expect mental stability), Fenrir Greyback, Corban Yaxley, Evan Rosier, Lucius Malfoy (if we go AU), Lucissa (Narcissa Black nee Malfoy + Lucius Malfoy), Theodore Nott, Blaise Zabini, Regulus Black, Jily (James + Lily), Sily (which is my take on Sirius + Lily, though mostly they are platonic sometimes I think hmm). I have a lot of my own personal headcanons for nearly all of these characters because I have spent many years of my life ‘living’ in the Wizarding World when I should have been doing my homework, so if something doesn’t vibe for you, I apologise, but I am very specific about my Harry Potter.
POV & Other Characters: These can be OC or reader, platonic and romantic or unpaired accepted. For Harry Potter, I can also write them as Hermione Granger (like most HP fics are tbh). As for other characters, it’s all negotiable, but with Harry Potter fandom Slytherin characters are much more likely to get the OK bc I’m House biased (Go Snakes). The ones marked as couples are only written as couples, so don’t try to make me pair dear James Potter with anyone other than his Lily.
How long does it take to write a request: If I’m inspired, maybe an hour or two. Now when I post it...
Open to ask memes: Absolutely the hell yes. I love talking about myself.
Special Rules: I do not write smut (yet, bc I am innocent in the ways of the flesh), but I will yeet those to Midnight and I’ll do my best to take any other requests and if y’all wanna drop nasty imagines into the ask box or something, we’re all ears (eyes?). I will write poly ships, though again I reserve the right to decide how (e.g. M/M or nah) and there will be no sin.
Midnight
1. Name/Nickname: Midnight, Kai, (Barnes)
2. Age: 19
3. Pronouns: she/her/Soldat
4. How would you describe yourself: I... am basically a less intimidating Winter Soldier (memory problems, depression, anxiety) and an MCU genderbent Loki because I can be a sneaky little shit
5. Are requests open: YEET
6. What do you like writing most: Fluff. Any time I get to make scary assassins do domestic things... I am there for that
7. What do you like writing least: Death. Why y’all gotta do me dirty like that? There’s more than enough in the MCU alone guys. Can’t we just pretend we live in the Everybody Lives AU?
8. Who do you write for: Marvel - Loki Odinson, Thor Odinson, Tony Stark, Doctor Stephen Strange, Bucky Barnes, Peter Quill, Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanov, T’Challa, Peter Parker (aged up), Pietro Maximoff, Wade Wilson (Deadpool), Gamora DC - Jason Todd, Bruce Wayne, Diana Prince, Clark Kent, Connor Kent, Dick Grayson, Steve Trevor, Tim Drake, Wally West, Barry Allen, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Damian Wayne (aged up), Kaldur’ahm, Jaime Reyes, Bart Allen (aged up), Roy Harper (if you want YJ’s Red Arrow, please specify, otherwise my default is Arsenal), Hal Jordan Assassin’s Creed - Altair, Ezio
9. POV & other characters: I prefer reader inserts, however, if you would like an OC I would recommend naming the OC with a nickname so it makes it nicer for other readers to enjoy it. I will do specific ships if I ship them or I know enough about the ship. (eg WonderTrevor, SuperWonder, Stony, Stucky, IronStrange etc) I am also pretty okay with writing smut, but I may not be able to for specific characters/ships due to lack of experience in writing the sin, lol. (and yes, I will take your smut requests for Serpentine’s characters, and work with her to achieve the correct characterization, so long as time permits us to work on it in a timely fashion)
10. How long does it take to write a request: Depends on how busy I am, the alignment of the stars, the weather… jk, in truth, I can be very busy and also have to manage my own health so it can be from a half hour (if I’m really inspired) to up to a week or two. (I will try my best to turn out work in a decent time though, and if I have to ask Serpentine for help I will)
11. Special Rules: Already covered, I guess? Just bear with me on getting things out on time.
Please note; most of this was written by Serpentine at 3 am, I (Midnight), only wrote my own FAQs, also at 3 am. If none of this makes sense, that would be why. Serpentine rarely makes sense without supervision, so feel free to ask for clarification if the wording is awkward.

Tuck Mattress Review
Tuck is a mattress company that specializes in custom engineering beds to meet your individual sleep needs and preferences.
In order to create the mattress, Tuck asks you to take a comprehensive Sleep Test online. They use those results in a proprietary algorithm to create a mattress to meet your needs in five main areas:
Support
Feel
Conforming Ability
Motion Isolation
Cooling
With so many details and specifics involved, it is a unique challenge to review a Tuck mattress. In order to give you the best idea of what to expect when you get a Tuck, I will provide you with the details and information that apply to every Tuck mattress, as well as share my own personal experience with my mattress customization.
Read on for my full review.
youtube
Mattress Construction
Tuck mattresses are 11” in height and made with a combination of the following components:
Cover – a mixture of rayon and polyester, with a built-in cooling agent
Copper Infused Gel Memory Foam
Continuous Process Latex
Micro Coils
Pocketed Coil Support Core
Transition Foam
Base Foam
Sizes and Prices Available
There are no weight limits with Tuck mattresses. You provide your weight in the Sleep Test and that is taken into consideration when designing your mattress.
You can place the Tuck mattresses on an adjustable base, a box spring, a solid platform, a metal grid, a slatted base, or even on the floor.
All components of the mattresses are made in the USA.
Tuck offers free shipping and delivery in 3-5 days.
There is a 100+ night trial period for you to test the mattress. It is actually 145 days, 12 hours, and 53 seconds, to be exact (no explanation about that on their website).
Tuck has an 11 year, one month and one day warranty (also called their 10+ year warranty).
My Experience
Sleep Test
Everyone who orders a Tuck mattress must complete a Sleep Test. This Test is very detailed and covers your personal information, mattress details, and sleep habits.
It asks a wide range of questions, from your age, weight, and body type to how well you sleep, what your current mattress is and what your dream mattress would feel like.
The team at Tuck did tell me that their customization engine puts more emphasis on the factual answers to their questions – like body composition and sleep position – over more opinion based questions like what your dream mattress feels like.
I want to provide you with a small summary of my sleep habits, and my husband’s sleep habits, as this information was used to create our blended mattress and is a part of the information that I used to review the mattress Tuck created.
Katie
I’m 5’ 7” and average weight. I am an easily disturbed back and side sleeper. I tend to sleep slightly hot but rarely wake up in pain on my current memory foam mattress. My ideal firmness is a medium level.
Jon
He is 6’ 5” and average weight with broad shoulders. He is a sound sleeper who tends to sleep hot. He sleeps primarily on his side and his stomach, snores, and prefers a medium firmness in his mattress.
When two people are designing a Tuck mattress, they have the option to either blend the results of their Sleep Tests in one mattress or create a dual comfort mattress where each side is designed for a specific person.
Since we do not have hugely different sleep preferences, we opted for a blended mattress.
The Sleep Test Results
After you take the Sleep Test, Tuck calculates your answers and uses their specially formulated algorithm to generate a mattress.
You will see an image of your mattress followed by a list and descriptions of five pieces of criteria that Tuck uses to customize your mattress and how your results were applied to these criteria:
Feeling- How soft or firm a mattress feels at the top, closest to your body. Feel is distinct from support.
Cooling – Degree to which cooling elements will be needed in the mattress to meet the preference of the sleeper.
Support – How well the mattress presses back against you to keep optimal spinal alignment.
Conforming Ability – The degree to which the mattress contours or molds to the body, creating a feeling of ‘floating’ without pressure points.
Motion Isolation – How effective a mattress is at confining the movements of a sleeper.
Each factor is given a scale and your results are indicated somewhere along each scale.
Our Mattress Construction
Base Poly Foam – 1”
Pocketed Coil Support system with enhanced edge support – 6”
Transition Poly Foam – .75”
Nano Coil System – 1”
Transition Poly Foam – .75”
Copper Infused Gel Memory Foam – 1.5”
Once again, this mattress is created as a result of our specific Sleep Test answers and Tuck’s sleep research and data. Your mattress may look similar or it may have different layers and materials.
Mattress Components
Tuck does a good job of helping you visualize your mattress components by giving you scales and ranges to understand how they made adjustments.
Below that summary a breakdown of each component. Tuck will tell you, at least in my experience, what pieces of your Sleep Test affected their decision making. Below is an example of my results:
  My Sleep Experience
The mattress came in a large box and delivered to my doorstep. The King mattress I received weighs more than 130 lbs, so it took two of us to get it unboxed and laid out.
Tuck provides plenty of documentation and instructions about how to get the mattress unsealed and open, allowing it to breathe.
The mattress is aesthetically pleasing, clean and white with varied textures on the surface. It does have a zipper along the bottom but Tuck does not recommend you remove it as it may be challenging to get back on.
After allowing the mattress to breathe for a day, I tested the responsiveness of the memory foam layer on the top of my mattress. While memory foam is naturally less responsive than a spring or coil mattress, this memory foam was fairly responsive and regained its original shape quickly.
In my Sleep Test, I said that I enjoyed sleeping on a mattress of medium firmness. When I first laid down on the new Tuck mattress, I sunk further in than I have on previous mattresses and was surprised by how soft it felt.
With that said, I have enjoyed a comfortable and cool nights sleep for the week I have reviewed the mattress. I have had no issues with aches or pains or feeling a lack of support. And I have not been sleeping hot.
Even though my mattress was a blend of the results of two Sleep Tests from two different individuals, both of us felt that all of our sleep preferences and needs were met. We both enjoyed comfortable nights of sleep – and barely felt each other thanks to the great motion isolation.
I’d like to break down my thoughts on the Tuck experience a little further:
Support: Tuck says they are focused on helping you find proper (neutral) spinal alignment. They take your weight, body composition, and what you consider your ideal mattress firmness when designing your mattress.
Weight and body type matter in terms of firmness because a mattress will typically feel less firm to a heavier person and firmer to a lighter person. Taking all of these factors into consideration helps Tuck find the ideal firmness that supports both your specific weight and any potential pressure points generated from your body type.
Conforming Ability: Your sleep position and body type are big factors is the conforming ability of your mattress. Although I (and my husband) indicated that we preferred a medium firmness in our mattress, the fact that we sleep on our sides and our body types indicated that we should have enough conforming material to help relieve any pressure points.
Feel and Responsiveness: There are several factors that play into overall feel and responsiveness of the mattress. Please watch the video below to see how responsive the Tuck mattress is.
youtube
Motion Isolation: This is key for those who are sharing a bed because increased motion isolation prevents you from feeling your partner moving next to you in bed and lessens your chances of being disturbed by them.
Both memory foam and individually pocketed micro coils are well known for being great at isolating motion The combination of the two make for a solid mattress for motion isolation and a good option for couples.
You can see more about the motion isolation in my mattress in the video below:
youtube
Cooling: My husband and I both said that we tend to sleep a little hot. Tuck incorporated both Nano coils (micro coils) and a pocketed coil support system in our mattress. These are great for sleeping hot because they allow for air to flow between them (unlike foams).
Our memory foam layer was also infused with copper to draw away heat. While it is a popular cooling mechanism for bedding, there seems to be a little bit of debate on whether or not copper will actually keep you cool. There are few studies to back this up but copper is a good heat conductor (think copper mugs to keep Moscow Mules cold).
My husband and I have both enjoyed a cool night’s sleep since we got our Tuck mattress Neither of us experienced waking up hot or sweating during the night. The combination of pocketed micro coils and copper infused foam seems to have done a good job of keeping the mattress breathable.
Edge Support: The edge support is noticeable with the Tuck mattress. Neither of us felt that we were close to falling off the bed.
To see more about the edge support in the mattress, please watch the video below:
youtube
Durability: Tuck incorporated several higher quality components into the mattress that make me believe the mattress will hold up over time.
Coil support system: this system is higher quality and more durable than its polyfoam alternative.
Latex: Latex foam is used on mattresses made for those under 200 lbs, and is also considered a high-quality and durable material.
Base and transition foams are 1.8 lb. density and typically anything over 1.5 lb is considered good.
The only slight concern is the density of the copper infused gel memory foam. Typically anything of 4lb density or higher is considered great, and this is 3.5 lb. That being said, it is only slightly below the 4 lb range. For a Queen mattress under $1,000, this is a great value.
You Might Consider A Tuck Mattress If…
You Sleep With A Partner. Tuck offers customization for both sleep partners and you can either choose to have your results blended into your mattress or divided by two sides. If you sleep very differently than your partner you can still both get a mattress that meets your sleep preferences.
You Are Heavier– The pocketed coil support core is going to be a better support system for heavier sleepers than a foam core would be.  The mattress is also a little bit thicker than average and it is customized in part by your weight and body type.
You Are Looking For A Hybrid– This mattress has many different components in it.  It will likely have memory foam in it, but you will not have a full memory foam feel.  It has an innerspring support system, but it will have layers of foam and micro coils above it.  The mattress aims to utilize the best aspects of the different components used in the construction, and it will definitely have a hybrid feel to it.
You Tend To Sleep Hot– Sleeping hot is a major issue for a lot of people.  This mattress can be customized in a way that will sleep cool.  The micro coil layers, for example, will be added to the construction to allow air to flow freely through the mattress.
You’re Simply Unsure What You Want– If you just don’t know what type of mattress you want, then the Tuck could be a really good option for you.  It will do all of the deciding for you and give the best-educated guess for the type of mattress you need.
You Might Not Consider A Tuck Mattress If…
There’s A Particular Type Of Mattress You Really Like– If you’ve had success with a certain type of mattress, then the Tuck may not be for you (or you would at least need some time to adjust to it).  For example, if you really love the memory foam feel, Tuck will probably have some memory foam in it but not a lot.  The Tuck is more of a hybrid feel, so if you like a very specific type of mattress, then your best bet would probably be to stick with that specific type.
You Want To Test The Mattress Before Buying It. Tuck is a new online mattress retailer and the only way to try their mattresses is to order one and have it delivered to your door. It’s a new concept as well, so you’re taking a risk on an innovative idea.  However, the return policy is sound, so there’s not a lot of downside in buying one.
Overall
My experience with Tuck and customizing my own mattress with them was very positive. They provided great customer service and were open, transparent and receptive to all of my questions during the review process.
Based on the construction of my mattress and my sleep experience, I think they used mainly high-quality materials and that the final product is a really solid value for the price range.
The main takeaway from my Tuck experience is that you may think you know what type of mattress you want or need, but if you trust Tuck’s research and technology and are open to seeing what type of mattress they think will suit you, you may be happily surprised.
They managed to take two people’s individual sleep preferences and manufacture a mattress that has kept us both happy, cool and comfortable.
