Marlon called me, interrupted me at work, and he said he had a bruise. He said I needed to come and look at it right away, because he needed to know.
This was him, asking me, pounded flank steak, to look and tell him the nature of his bruise.
Marlon hasn't had health insurance in years, so he tries not to think about it, usually. It's easy, since there's no difference when you have health insurance. It's old hat.
But today, he thought about it.
And he noticed a bruise.
So I'm walking up to the Regent hotel after work, and he's in the lobby in his limp little tank top. He'd call it a wifebeater and imagine himself in place of the wife, I'm sure. I wonder if he isn't cold all the time. Mr. Marlon Singer, such a masochist just so he can show off his skeletal body with all the cigarette burns I have to hear him and Tyler laughing over.
I am Jane's abnormal hemorrhoid development.
He doesn't mention what Tyler and I stole from him, even though I think it was all the cash he had. Even though just three days ago he tried to chase me around the house and beat me with a broom. He made me and Tyler go sleep in the junkyard. Buried under our furs, howling at the moon. Maybe I can't fault him for that.
He couldn't keep it here where the guys he brings back could get at it, he said, and sure. But he should've known better than to tell Tyler about it, because now it's bags upon bags of lye being kept in the driest room in the house.
I work on grinding cracks into my remaining teeth as he grabs his neighbors Agatha and Dianne's Meals on Wheels kits. The delivery lady remarks on what a good young man Marlon must be, helping out these old ladies. Oh, yeah. A real, upstanding, mummified rat of a man. Maybe he helped them into the ditch. He yaps at me the entire walk up to his room, and I don't hear a word as I methodically rip up the skin around Tyler's kiss on my hand with a broken nail. It's been infected since Tuesday, and the ring of puffy red flesh makes the ghost of her lips white like the center of a neon tube. Always buzzing.
We get to his room, he says to me, "One of these boxes is for you, you know."
I think about all the women who bother to use what little time they have to operate charities that keep the poor and destitute alive enough to want to kill themselves. All that time spent cooking mac and cheese en masse and putting little packets of powdered milk next to little cartons of the liquid, like they get at schools and prisons, packets that can only be opened by the nimble fingers of caring relatives these elderly recipients do not have.
Sure.
Tyler told me I need to be eating at least two meals a day, or she'd steal a blender and make me drink raw chicken. So I eat the Meals on Wheels box. Sorry Agatha. I rip open the powdered milk packet, dump it into the carton, hold it closed, and shake it. Twice the calories. A recipe for palliative care.
Marlon's sitting there, quiet, eating Dianne's latest last meal. All the urgency is gone. Sucked dry. He's got pallor like a hospice heart failure. When dogs get treated for heartworms, the worms die, and sometimes, not all of them break apart. Sometimes, there will be thin, dead cords of necrotized nematode strung through their heart waiting for the right beat to fall apart and clot a vital artery. This can take years to happen. Your pet recovers perfectly from treatment until seven years down the line, you give it a doggy cupcake and a pulmonary embolism for its tenth birthday.
Marlon looks like he's had his first melarsomine injection and his owner is thinking about taking him to a dog park instead of bothering with the second. If you let a dog get its heart rate up too high when getting treated for all the parasites you let grow in it, its heart will explode. Or all the worms will clog its lungs. Whichever one it is, it's happening to Marlon here in this room. On this bed.
He says he'd found a bruise, a while back. A nasty little thing, like the crush of a plum under your thumb. Near one of his ankles. And Marlon Singer knew he couldn't afford any novel treatments, and he'd seen too many people rot from the inside out from them already. He did not go to the clinic down the street that gets its windows broken in often enough that there's just big black billowing sails of trashbags over their storefront more often than not. Marlon says he once saw a rat nailed to the door, which is something you'd think would be too neat and poetic for real life. He didn't go to the clinic because he didn't have to. And maybe if he was fucking guys he wanted to he would be a bit more cautious, but the men Marlon Singer gets to fuck are the type to have given him those bruises in the first place. They're the reason there's single mothers visiting that clinic, like half melted wax getting scraped out of the picture. He says he shouldn't feel guilty.
I tell Marlon about where I got the idea for poisoning all the food at the Pressman hotel.
He asks me what I mean by that, and I tell him about my first boss at the company I work for now.
When I first started there, I was selling our cars to companies. Bulk orders for work vehicles. My job was to not fuck up any contracts we already had. Marlon is probably aware, but the type of man involved in that sort of thing, he knows he's got you on a collar and chain. You and him both know he'll be renewing the contract, but you have to do the song and dance for him. Pretend you like how close he gets to you. Pretend you don't want to rip his testicles from his ballsack when he leans in sweaty and tells you how he likes your hair, did you go and do all that just for me?
Because he knows. And you know. But enduring this is what you were hired to do. If you were a man, you would've been hired to create a sense of the old boys club with this guy. But you're not.
There is so much pretense in the world.
Anyway, my first boss, call him Joe — whenever I'd return from those trips and dinners, Joe wouldn't pretend that it wasn't a shit job. He'd commiserate and wish me luck with the next one. He didn't overstep, he wasn't creepy, he kept his distance. The best you could hope for. Thirty days on the job, they asked me how I was doing, and I told them I was doing great. The job was amazing, I felt embraced by the company, my boss was great. One of those things was true to me.
And when Joe got his promotion, for being such a great regional manager, he cornered me in my cubicle and informed me he'd been jerking off into my nicely labeled thin salad lunches each time they showed up in the office fridge. He told me this with the same smile he'd always worn.
Marlon, he's next to me, and he leans closer like we're having a nice little confession. My skin itches.
It was before the 90 day clause kicked in my health coverage, so I had to wait at one of those free clinics like Marlon's, and I was surrounded by a lot of young men, wispy mangled pears. What little flesh was left was soft. When I told the nurse what happened, I watched myself die in her eyes. Dappling up with rashes and bruises until I was all painted and sunken like a bog body.
For the longest time, I wondered if I'd become the oral Mary. How many times I vomited in that office toilet, I don't know. I stopped bringing lunch.
The thing is, I couldn't see it in his face. Joe's, I mean. Not even when he told me. I couldn't see it in anyone. So I stopped eating out. Stopped eating altogether, really.
Marlon, his response was to go to the support groups. His tragedy was that it was a slow death, coming for him. Best to wriggle into the pile of dying bodies, see what it's like. Maybe that could muster enough suicidal impulse.
I tell Marlon, of course, I couldn't go to HR. I was a new hire with no evidence and previous record of liking my boss. I didn't want to tell my mom. I didn't want her to know. Those uncomfortable dinners became absolutely, wretchedly unbearable as I thought about the food I was being forced to share.
When the option came up for a dead end job in the least loved department in the building, I put on the best performance of my life to get the part. Best aspiring Compliance and Liability head and sole department employee, that's me. My new job was to keep secrets. It was, already, old hat.
For months I thought about waking up from a narcoleptic fit at my desk, with Joe leaning over the cubicle wall and asking if I was alright. I watched my stomach like it was nuclear. Every extra second it took until I bled like usual slid me closer to buying myself a shotgun and pumping a slug or two into my brain.
It's an unavoidable fear, I tell Marlon. You can't do anything about it. Once you know, you know. At some point, you have to find the peace in it. Imagine yourself, a balloon popping with meaty chunks flying apart, splattering onlookers and raining viscera.
For a month, six months, I had cancer. Worse than cancer. Every time I eat out, I get it again.
Marlon is looking at me, melting stained glass, drowning in that sort of shared pity you build together with someone who's dying.
I don't want Marlon to feel guilty.
I tell Marlon, that's why I poison the food at the Pressman hotel. Someone's got to do it. Blood in the tomato sauce, spit on the steak. Imagine what you could do to a soup. The men who go to the Pressman hotel, they're the kind that leave Marlon bloody and walking around Paper Street calling for Tyler to come out and burn more holes into him. They're the kind that get promoted from regional manager. They're the kind that lean in close, pull your wrist towards them, and say there's one way they know you could secure the contract renewal. The kind that almost ruin it in a temper tantrum when you don't, resulting in an upper management intervention on the 24th day of your new job. They're the kind that hear that shit and say you should've been more appeasing. More polite.
Don't feel guilty, Marlon.
I hope all of them rot so everyone can see the maggots eating their insides.
Marlon isn't smiling. I am unavoidably bad at distracting him. There's something final in it, when he sighs, and takes off his tank top. He says it's on his back, and I should just tell him.
I look. I see it. Black hole, botfly, necrosis. There's so many things these broken blood vessels could be. Withering, snapping apart like mummified heartworms. I imagine driving the two inch melarsomine needle deep into the muscles bunched upon his spine.
I look.
I press my hands into him, and I grip like I'm trying to rend my fingers through his skin, deep into his body cavity to rip out his guts. Like I'm trying to grab the rope of his small intestine and strangle him with it. Marlon's yelling at me and trying to hit me, arms flapping like a chicken, and I am bruising ten deep circles into the soft pearskin of his abdomen. It's the only place left on him that's mealy, that isn't frayed rope under worn out leather.
I tell him, you've got bruises. They look mostly normal, to me.
Don't worry too much about it.
And Marlon, he leans into me, and I let him.

Leeches were largely popular in the medical field during the Victorian era both in Europe (primarily England and France) and America. The 19th century saw progression of the academic study of leeches as used in medicine that was conducted prior and laid basis for the modern application of anticoagulant in medical practice.
At the time, many famous Englishmen found leeches fascinating: zoologist Arthur Everett Shipley, for instance, wrote papers marveling at the beauty and functionality of a leech. This fascination often grew personal. Lord Thomas Erskine, a lawyer, underwent a successful bloodletting, afterwards taking with him two leeches; later naming them Home and Clina. According to the memoirs of Sir Sam Romilly, Erskine's friend, he took great care of making sure the leeches "knew him".
Tumblr media
In France, the obsession with leeches took drastic turns as well. François-Joseph-Victor Broussais, a notable surgeon of Napoleon's army, was known to possess a certain infatuation with leeches.
Leeches were in growingly high demand in the 19th century Europe. France imported leeches in terrific quantities equating up to dozens of millions a year.
Tumblr media
Overall, bloodletting for medicinal purposes is not strictly unique to the 19th century Europe. Like many other medical methods, it has its roots in Ancient Egypt and Greece where bloodletting via cutting veins was often practiced by the followers of the method described in the Hippocratic collection of the 5th century BC. The medicinal use of leeches dates back to 1500 BC and is not a recent invention. However, it is only in 1884 that Haycraft learned why leeches are so efficient in bloodletting: their saliva contains an anticoagulant hirudin (hence hirudotherapy). These observations are listed in Haycraft's work, On the Action of a Secretion Obtained from the Medicinal Leech on the Coagulation of the Blood. For this property, leeches are still in high medicinal demand.
During the Victorian era, leeches were used for all kinds of medical treatment: from headaches to hemorrhoids, from fatigue to nymphomania. Sir William Henry, for example, writes that bloodletting is far beyond any other medical treatment in helping many diseases.
Tumblr media
Albeit, the effectiveness of such treatment is a matter of much questioning as often leeching only weakened the fragile state of those being treated. Some patients were, unsurprisingly, allergic to the treatment and either suffered reactions to leeches, larger loss of blood than intended, or even died during treatment.
Leeches and bloodletting were studied with much attention: physicians wrote books on the physiology and medical benefits of leech usage, and a very detailed description of leeches was added in the 1880 edition of Johnson's Universal Cyclopaedia.
The curiosity for leeches found its way into much earlier publications as well. For example, J. R. Johnson released multiple medical studies on leeches in the very beginning of the 19th century. His A Treatise on the Medicinal Leech (1816) and Further Observations in the Medicinal Leech (1825) dwelled on the precise details of leech usage and preservation.
Tumblr media
From Johnson's studies mentioned above, we learn that he worked with cocoons of different sizes which he received from other leech enthusiasts. He recorded that leeches are to be kept in an enclosure with a stream of fresh water coming in and turf placed conveniently so that the leeches could "retire in a shady spot". He also studied leeches' detailed anatomical structure.
Such academic interest centered around leeches in England roots within earlier academic research done by the scientists of the 18th century - for example, an apothecary by the name George Horn who published his An Entirely New Treatise on Leeches: Wherein the Nature, Properties and Use in 1798. Interestingly, even this early into the studying of leeches, he mentions the dangers of infections if leeches were to be attracted by walking bare-legged into a river (as was done in India, according to him). Instead, he promotes the English method of agitating the leech-infested waters until the animals come up to the surface to then be caught by the nets. Overall, prior to Horn's manual not many spoke in favor of leeching: William Buchan in his study from 1769 speaks on leeches as unreliable and inefficient as it's unclear how much blood is taken per use.
Tumblr media
Horn describes four species of leech (two of which are found in England) and dwells on their peculiar anatomy:
no eyes but a teeth-filled mouth
lips to catch blood from escaping
lack of a proper stomach
presence of the so-called "bags" across their body that "get saturated when leeches receive nourishment"
Based on the gathered information, one can claim leeches were awakening more and more scientific curiosity among the English apothecaries and physicians even at the end of the 18th century.
The medical treatment of patients with the use of leeches is described by Horn as well, though he tends to recommend additional treatment - usually mixtures of milk and syrup with herbs - to be given to the patient alongside bloodletting. This as well as other studies of the late 18th century certainly became the basis of medicinal usage of leeches in the upcoming 19th century and far into the 1910s.
Tumblr media
It is impossible to speak of leech therapy of the early 19th century in England and beyond without mentioning the influence of François-Joseph-Victor Broussais, a surgeon of immense medical fascination with leeches who employed them vastly in his treatment of Napoleon's soldiers. Broussais used around fifty leeches a time per patient and was thus called "the vampire of medicine" for his fascination with bloodletting. He claimed, among other things, that all "fevers" had the precisely same origin: inflammation. Letting out "bad blood" was thus a plausible solution to the issue.
Women wore embroidery in colors inspired by leeches' dim, soft shades. A whole sort of fashion - à la Broussais - was born out of this unusual fascination. The notable traits of this fashion, according to Michel Valentin who wrote a large biography of Broussais, were purple garnitures - embroidery, trimming - and top coats that resembled leeches' colors.
Tumblr media
This conclusion was, of course, the result of the "humoral theory", which was widely supported in Europe. Rooting from Greece, it centered around the idea that the human body held inside four types of liquids: two kinds of bile, phlegm, and blood. Each humor was associated with two qualities, either hot or cold, and either wet or dry. Having one of the liquids "in excess" was associated with certain conditions (for blood, it was any that caused redness, for example), hence bloodletting was a naturally sought out practice.
The leeches were placed “inside the nostrils, on the inside of the lower lip, on the chest, and on the side, sometimes by four at a time.” Leeches could access otherwise inaccessible parts of one's body (such as perineum) and were often used for treatment conditions that were believed to be connected to genitalia - for example, "nymphomaniac" states. To apply a leech, one would hold a small leech-containing vessel filled with water to the desired spot, wait until it bites, and then gently remove the container; tubes could be used as well.
A whole industry related to leeches was established in the 19th century: propagating leeches rose to the state level of importance and leech keeping became a popular activity. Leeches were, in fact, nearly hunted to extinction in some European countries in the 19th century, including England. Containing leeches started to become complicated: leeches only needed meals once every six months (and thus were not suitable for frequent use) and required specific conditions of containment. Thus, the mechanical leech quickly became a popular invention. The first prototype of 1817, called bdellomètre, is credited to French doctor Jean-Baptiste Sarlandière.
Tumblr media
Transactions of the Pharmaceutical Meetings (1855) notes some statistical numbers regarding the "leech hunt" of the 19th century: in imports alone England received 8 million leeches annually, besides the large numbers collected within the country. The practice of using mechanical leeches (two types for different purposes) is mentioned as "ingenious" and discussed as a great opportunity to keep the natural leech healthy. The book tracks down purchases of various vessels for fresh water used as leech enclosures.
Actual preservation and propagation of leeches are described in various books of the time, though the peak of such publications in England comes around in the 1850s. In 1855, Specification of Nathaniel Johnston: Breeding, Rearing and Carrying Leeches is published. Johnston, whilst in Paris, invented an apparatus for keeping and breeding medicinal leeches: a complicated water vessel to keep leeches at the perfect temperature and humidity for the breeder - the inventor titled these containers hirudinieres. A similar invention was marked by another author in Specification of George Lifford Smartt: Vessels for Preserving Leeches and Fish Alive.
Tumblr media
There was a lot of thought and effort put into keeping leeches healthy and vital - either for medicinal purposes or out of personal fascination.

🌿 Herb Of The Day
Title: Acacia
Gender: Masculine
Element: Fire
Planet: Sun
I am not a medical professional. Please consult your doctor before using.
Tumblr media
📜 Folklore & History 📜
Acacia is much revered in religious and magickal practice as an emblem of immortality and of initation, in the sense that initiation is symbolic of resurrection. The ancient Egyptians made funeral wreaths of Acacia leaves and the Hebrews planted a sprig of evergreen Acacia to mark the grave of a departed friend. Acacia wood is the Biblical shittim-wood from which Noah’s Ark and the Tabernacle and Altar wer made. Jewish legend tells us that the Burning Bus of Moses was an Acacia. Christian lore links an Acacia tree with the Cross and its spiny branches with the Crown of Thorns. The sap of some spiny Acacia species yields Gum Arabic, used as a binding agent. The acacia of Heliopolis was known as a tree of life and death. In Osirian myth, the acacia (also associated with Tamarisk) encased Osiris after he was betrayed by his brother Set. In death, Osiris became one with the acacia tree as “lord of the underworld.” His seed was planted into Isis the goddess of life who gave birth to their son Horus “lord of the sky.” Horus rides a solar barge with an acacia on the west side and a date palm on the east as he navigates between night and day. Horus is the all seeing eye, his right eye is the sun and left eye is the moon. Acacia was a sacred wood to the Hebrews, called shittahz. In Exodus 25:10-22 acacia is the wood that Moses was instructed to use when building the Ark of the Covenant.

🔮 Metaphysical Properties
Sitting under an acacia tree or burning the dried flowers brings wisdom and insight. The oil extracted from the plant is considered holy and used for purification and anointing. It is especially powerful when attempting to contact the dead and should be rubbed into white candles and not worn on the body while attempting such work. For personal anointing, mix with other oils (like musk or camellia) to cut and then it is said to bring happiness.
To contact the dead:
Dip acacia leaves in holy water and sprinkle an altar with the water, or burn Acacia as incense to communicate with or to memorialize the dead.
To open the mind to visions:
Acacia leaves are burned on charcoal to induce spiritual phenomena and develop personal psychic power; adding Frankincense and Myrrh is used to intensify the effect.
Tumblr media
🍴⚕️ Culinary & Medicinal
Acacia has been used in medicines, baking ingredients, tools, and woodwork for centuries. It has a long history in civilizations as ancient as the Egyptians and the aboriginal tribes of Australia. These kingdoms and tribes used acacia in surprisingly diverse ways, from making desserts to treating hemorrhoids. The first species ever discovered was given the name Acacia nilotica by the Swedish scientist Carl Linnaeus in the 1700s, and since then, nearly 1,000 species have been added to the Acacia genus. Acacia still sits on grocery store shelves in crushed, ground, and whole form. The name Acacia itself refers to a genus of plant that includes many different types of plants, such as trees and shrubs. They can be used in a variety of applications. The acacia that you can buy today may come from one or more of these species. Most of the time, the acacia in food or medicine is Acacia senegal (L.) Willd. This type of acacia is usually in gum form, and it will say acacia gum on labels and packaging.
Acacia gum has a naturally sticky texture. Materials with this property are often used to reduce irritation and inflammation. The gum has been shown to be especially effective in easing stomach or throat discomfort.
Acacia is often used in topical treatments to help wounds heal. Doctors, scientists, and researchers believe that this effect may be due to some of its chemicals, such as alkaloids, glycosides, and flavonoids. In one study, a species of acacia known as Acacia caesia was tested on rats as part of a topical wound treatment. It led to quicker wound healing than the standard treatment.
The extract of a species of acacia known as Acacia catechu, sometimes called black khair, can be used in dental products like mouthwash to prevent gingivitis. Powdered acacia can also be used in a type of herbal toothpaste that’s been shown to clean teeth without being too abrasive to the surface of your teeth. An older study from 1999 showed that this herbal tooth powder cleaned and cleared well over two-thirds of tooth plaque, and nearly 100 percent in some cases.
The properties of acacia gum allow it to be used in solutions to coat your throat and protect the mucus in your throat from irritation. Using acacia for coughs can keep your throat from becoming sore as well as ease or prevent symptoms, including losing your voice.

Elderly Care Home and Constipation In Seniors
Constipation is a widespread health problem that may affect anyone at any age; 22% of the population has it, but it's most frequent in the elderly, where 40% of senior individuals in India have it. It is a disorder that develops when a person has trouble passing feces, leading to irregular bowel motions, lumpy or hard stools, and a sense of incomplete evacuation. Hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and rectal prolapse are just a few of the issues that can develop from constipation if it is not addressed. These conditions can be painful and necessitate surgery.
Tumblr media
A low-fiber diet, a lack of exercise, certain medicines, dehydration, and underlying medical problems including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and hypothyroidism are just a few of the many things that can cause constipation. Due to the broad presence of risk factors such a sedentary lifestyle, bad eating habits, and a lack of knowledge about preventative measures, constipation is becoming a significant problem in India. These issues are given utmost importance at the elderly care home with a doctor on call at their service.
Consuming a high-fiber diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes is essential to avoiding constipation. Regular physical exercise, such as brisk walking or yoga, can help to encourage regular bowel motions. However, constipation can occur as a side effect from several drugs, including opioids, antidepressants, and antacids.
Speak to your healthcare provider about precautions or other choices if you're on any of these drugs.
Constipation signs include:
weekly bowel motions of little more than three
straining when having a bowel movement
eructation of lumpy or firm stools
an impression of an incomplete evacuation
abdominal discomfort or bloating
It's critical to get medical assistance if you have any of these symptoms so that your constipation's underlying cause may be identified. Changing one's lifestyle can help with some cases of constipation, while other situations could need medicine or other medical attention.
Numerous herbal treatments are available in India to aid in the prevention of constipation. Triphala, a herbal mixture made up of three different fruits, has been used for generations as a constipation treatment. Other well-liked all-natural treatments for constipation include ginger, castor oil, and aloe vera juice.
In India, a number of drugs are sold that can relieve constipation in addition to natural therapies. Constipation is frequently treated using the synthetic sugar lactulose, which attracts water into the colon. Other drugs that can induce bowel motions include bisacodyl and sodium picosulfate. However, because they might have negative side effects including diarrhea and stomach cramps, these drugs should only be given while a doctor is present.
Elderly care home provides the best possible diet to the seniors including a high-fiber diet that contains fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes to avoid constipation. Regular physical exercise, such as brisk walking or yoga, as well as maintaining hydration can help to encourage regular bowel movements. But as a side effect, several drugs, including antacids, opioids, and antidepressants, might make you constipated. Talk to the doctor on call at the elderly care home about preventive measures or other choices if you're on any of these drugs.
Finally, constipation is a common health problem in India, especially among the elderly. It is brought on by a number of things, including a low-fiber diet, inactivity, certain drugs, dehydration, and underlying medical disorders. Adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise, a high-fiber diet, and adequate water is crucial to preventing constipation. To identify the underlying reason and avoid any problems, it's critical to get medical assistance if you're exhibiting constipation symptoms. In India, there are a number of herbal treatments and pharmaceuticals that can aid with constipation, but they should only be taken under medical supervision.
It's critical to understand when to seek medical attention for constipation at elderly care homes, particularly if the symptoms last longer than two weeks or are accompanied by other unsettling signs and symptoms like blood in the stool, stomach discomfort, or unexplained weight loss. At The Golden Estate, you are given an opportunity to change your lifestyle with the best professionals always at your disposal.

The Oregon Department of Corrections was recently ordered by a Marion County Circuit Court to immediately provide “gender affirming” care to a transgender inmate in their custody. While the single initial report on the case only referred to the inmate by his “chosen” name, Reduxx has learned that Nova June Gaia, 38, was imprisoned for sexually abusing a young girl.
Formerly known as Joseph Daniel Neilson, Gaia was first arrested in 2018 at a property in Portland, Oregon after being reported for sexually assaulting a child he was babysitting. The exact nature of the relationship between Gaia and the victim is being withheld by Reduxx for the purposes of protecting the child’s identity and dignity.
On September 3, 2018, Gaia was watching over two children, a girl and a boy, at a home in Clackamas County. According to the police report obtained by Reduxx, while taking the girl to the bathroom, Gaia licked the girl’s genitals. Later on that same day, Gaia fondled the girl’s vagina.
Tumblr media
Gaia would ultimately be convicted on 6 counts related to the sexual abuse of the girl, and was convicted on one count of felony Sodomy and one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison, and, according to the Oregon offender directory, his earliest possible release date is in 2043.
Reduxx obtained a 555-page inmate record associated with Gaia’s incarceration history which showed that the first and only time he mentioned his gender identity to prison officials was in October of 2019. Gaia filed an inmate grievance against a Deputy alleging he had “exposed to the entire [prison] block” the style of feminine underwear Gaia had been wearing.
“The Deputy loudly informed the entire block that, first, someone was wearing female underwear then, second, that I was the one who had requested them. This very much endangered me and created bias,” Gaia claimed in his grievance.
Tumblr media
The grievance was found to be “unsustained” and closed without further action.
While in Clackamas County custody, Gaia was prolific in filing inmate grievances. Of the 555-page inmate record obtained by Reduxx, 431 pages contain requests and complaints from Gaia regarding staff, facilities, resources, or conditions.
Dozens of the complaints relate to demands for medication or treatment for ingrown toenails, back pain, dandruff, and hemorrhoids. In one, Gaia requested approval to buy a Dungeons and Dragons book from Amazon.
Shortly after being remanded to custody following his arrest, Gaia converted to Judaism and began submitting meal requests for pork-free meals. But months later, he advised the institution of his intention to become a Vajrayana Buddhist monk and requested the ability to ordain while incarcerated.
In one grievance from November of 2019, Gaia complained of “insects in the broccoli,” asserting it was a “violation of his religion and sensibilities.” At the time, Gaia threatened legal action for the supposed infraction, calling it a “sanitation, nutrition, and religious grievance.”
Tumblr media
In 2021, Gaia changed his name and legal gender marker. According to the Oregon Department of Corrections offender directory, Gaia appears to have first changed his name to Nova June Neilson, and then to Nova June Gaia, which is now listed as his “court/legal” name.
The following year, he submitted a writ of habeas corpus, which was in part alleging that he had been denied “gender affirming care” while in state custody.
In May of 2023, a Marion County Circuit Court judge ordered the Oregon Department of Corrections to abide by Gaia’s demands.
Senior Judge Cheryl Pellegrini found the state violated a clause of the Oregon Constitution that prohibited officials from treating people in custody with what she deemed “unnecessary rigor.”
The Department of Corrections must now arrange for a variety of tax-payer subsidized treatments for Gaia, including facial feminization surgery, tracheal shaving, breast augmentation, and electrolysis, and transfer Gaia if the procedures can’t be carried out in his current county of incarceration.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While Gaia is currently incarcerated at Snake River – a male facility – that may change following Pellegrini’s ruling.
While it is unclear exactly how many male sex offenders in the US have begun identifying as transgender and receiving state-funded surgical procedures, authorities face the risk of possible litigation should they fail to comply with policies that frame the concept of gender identity as a human right.
Last fall, in the state of Idaho, a violent offender who sexually abused a 15 year-old boy was awarded more than $2.5 million in legal fees after suing the state for withholding “gender affirming care” while he was incarcerated.
Adree Edmo, formerly known as Mason Edmo, who was housed in a male prison at the time, also demanded a transfer to a women’s facility.

4 best Ayurvedic treatments for hemorrhoids
Tumblr media
This is maybe your 30s or 40s, and you are feeling extreme pain due to the inflammation in your rectum. Well, this is happening because of hemorrhoids, or in other words, piles. This is a medical condition that enlarges the veins in your rectum or causes swelling outside of your anus as well. Due to that, you will face bleeding, itching, and pain. Passing the stool will be agony for you if you have hemorrhoids.
Our hectic lifestyle, and eating processed or junk food can be contributing factors to our piles. These can tamper with our digestive tracts and push us into this situation where we have to seek some medical help in order to get rid of our piles permanently.
Should we seek Ayurveda help?
Ayurveda is a well-known name in the world, especially among the Indian people. Said to cure thousands of diseases, Ayurveda strives to balance the three doshas in the body called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
If you are thinking that antiquity makes this medical practice less good than any of today’s modern allopathic treatments, you are wrong. A 5000-year-old medical practice is still far better than those allopathic treatments. There is no way that you should neglect the help of Ayurveda. Let's take a look at the four most effective Ayurvedic treatment for hemorrhoid.
4 best Ayurvedic treatments for hemorrhoids
1. Bhaishajya chikitsa (Medication)
Ayurvedic medication is the easiest and most effective way to treat normal or less-severe hemorrhoids. For ages, this herb has been used as a hemorrhoid treatment because it lessens bowel movements and calms the pressure on the excretory system. We suggest you add haritaki fruit to your daily diet to lessen your piles gradually.
4. Guggul/Guggullu
Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, guggul is another method for treating your piles. This is the main ingredient in many well-known piles treatments and Ayurvedic digestive tablets. It can also give you relief from pain and itching in your affected area.

What Are Piles?
Piles are swollen veins in the rectal or anal area, which can occur both internally (inside the rectum) and externally (under the skin around the anus). They can cause significant discomfort, including pain, itching, swelling, and in more severe cases, bleeding during bowel movements. Piles are often triggered by factors such as chronic constipation, prolonged sitting, pregnancy, or excessive straining. “piles treatment in Ghaziabad”

Rubber Band Ligation: This procedure involves placing a small rubber band around the base of the hemorrhoid, cutting off its blood supply. The hemorrhoid then shrinks and falls off within a few days.
Surgical Options:
Hemorrhoidectomy: In cases where other treatments are ineffective, surgical removal of hemorrhoids may be necessary. This is generally a last resort and is performed by experienced surgeons at the clinic.

Piles, or hemorrhoids, are swollen veins in the rectal area that can cause discomfort, pain, and bleeding. While many treatment options are available, homeopathy stands out as a gentle, natural approach that emphasizes holistic healing. This article explores how homeopathy can effectively manage piles and improve your quality of life.
Why Choose Homeopathy?
Homeopathy operates on the principle of treating the whole person rather than just the symptoms. It involves using highly diluted substances that stimulate the body’s innate healing abilities. Here are some reasons to consider homeopathy for piles:
Individualized Treatment: Homeopathy tailors remedies to each person's unique symptoms and overall health, ensuring a personalized approach.
Minimal Side Effects: Homeopathic remedies are gentle and generally free from the side effects often associated with conventional medications.
Holistic Focus: This approach considers physical, emotional, and mental well-being, promoting overall health rather than just addressing the condition.
Key Homeopathic Remedies for Piles
Aesculus Hipposcastanum: Best for individuals who experience a sensation of fullness and a dull, aching pain. It is particularly effective when piles are dry and inflamed.
Hamamelis Virginiana: Known for its soothing properties, it is ideal for bleeding piles and provides relief from soreness, especially after sitting for long periods.
Nux Vomica: Suitable for those who lead a sedentary lifestyle or suffer from constipation. It helps alleviate itching and discomfort, particularly if there’s a sense of urgency to defecate.
Arsenicum Album: Useful for burning pain associated with piles and helps alleviate anxiety that may accompany the condition.
Graphites: Ideal for painful, protruding hemorrhoids with significant itching. It helps soothe inflammation and supports healing.
Silicea: Recommended for hard, painful piles that are slow to heal, aiding tissue health and promoting recovery.
Complementary Lifestyle Changes
In conjunction with homeopathic remedies, certain lifestyle adjustments can enhance healing:
Dietary Modifications: Incorporate high-fiber foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to prevent constipation. Foods like oats, lentils, and chia seeds are excellent choices.
Hydration: Drink adequate water throughout the day to keep stools soft and reduce the risk of straining during bowel movements.
Regular Physical Activity: Engage in regular exercise, such as walking, cycling, or yoga, to stimulate digestion and improve blood circulation.
Good Hygiene Practices: Maintain cleanliness in the anal area to prevent irritation. Use mild, unscented soaps and avoid harsh wiping.

Best Ayurvedic Hospital for Piles Treatment in Hyderabad
Common symptoms of internal hemorrhoids include painless rectal bleeding, which is often the first noticeable sign, and the prolapse of anal tissue, where the hemorrhoidal tissue bulges or moves outside the anus. This prolapse is usually triggered during bowel movements or when wiping, as straining can push the hemorrhoids beyond the anal opening. In the early stages, the prolapsed tissue may retract back into the anus on its own after a bowel movement. However, as the condition progresses, patients may need to manually push the prolapsed hemorrhoid back into place. The prolapse of internal hemorrhoids tends to worsen over time if left untreated, potentially leading to chronic discomfort, itching, and irritation around the anal region.
While internal hemorrhoids are typically not associated with pain, they can cause significant discomfort and inconvenience, particularly when the prolapse becomes more frequent or persistent. The bleeding, which is usually bright red, may be seen on toilet paper or in the toilet bowl and can be alarming to patients. Although the bleeding is often painless, it should not be ignored, as it could indicate the presence of hemorrhoids or other underlying anorectal conditions. In more severe cases, internal hemorrhoids may become thrombosed or strangulated, leading to increased pain and potential complications.
If you are searching for the Best Ayurvedic Hospital for Piles Treatment in Hyderabad, it is essential to consider facilities that emphasize a holistic and natural approach to treating hemorrhoids. Ayurvedic treatment for piles (hemorrhoids) offers a time-tested, effective alternative to conventional surgical procedures, focusing on promoting long-term relief and addressing the root causes of the condition rather than just the symptoms. Ayurvedic hospitals in Hyderabad known for piles treatment typically offer a combination of therapies, including herbal remedies, lifestyle modifications, and minimally invasive procedures like Kshara Sutra therapy, which is widely recognized for its effectiveness in treating hemorrhoids and other anorectal disorders.
Kshara Sutra therapy, in particular, is a specialized Ayurvedic procedure that involves applying a medicated thread to the hemorrhoidal tissue to shrink it and facilitate healing. This method is less invasive than conventional surgery, with fewer side effects and a lower risk of recurrence. Additionally, Ayurvedic hospitals often focus on dietary and lifestyle changes, recognizing that poor digestion, constipation, and chronic straining are significant contributors to the development of hemorrhoids. Ayurvedic treatment plans are personalized, targeting each patient’s unique constitution (Prakriti) and imbalances (Doshas), ensuring that the underlying causes of hemorrhoids are addressed for lasting relief.
These Ayurvedic hospitals also offer a range of herbal treatments aimed at improving digestion, softening stools, and reducing inflammation. Herbs such as Triphala, Guggul, and Arshoghna are commonly used to relieve constipation and reduce swelling in the hemorrhoidal tissue. The holistic approach of Ayurveda, which integrates physical, mental, and lifestyle changes, promotes not only the healing of existing hemorrhoids but also helps prevent future occurrences.
When choosing an Ayurvedic hospital for piles treatment in Hyderabad, it's crucial to select a facility with experienced Ayurvedic doctors who have specialized knowledge in treating anorectal conditions. Look for hospitals that have a reputation for success in managing hemorrhoids and providing long-term solutions through Ayurveda. By opting for Ayurvedic treatment, patients can benefit from natural therapies that are not only effective but also support overall well-being, leading to a healthier, more balanced life free from the discomfort of hemorrhoids.

Finding Relief: Hemorrhoids Treatment Through Homeopathy
Tumblr media
Introduction: Understanding Hemorrhoids and the Need for Effective Treatment:
Hemorrhoids, commonly known as piles, are swollen blood vessels in the rectal area that cause discomfort, pain, and bleeding during bowel movements. This condition affects millions of people worldwide, often leading to a significant impact on their quality of life. While conventional treatments focus on managing symptoms, many are now turning to homeopathy treatment for a more holistic and long-lasting solution. In this blog, we’ll explore how homeopathy can provide effective relief from hemorrhoids and why it’s considered one of the best homeopathy treatments for hemorrhoids.
What Are Hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids occur when the veins in the lower rectum and anus become swollen and inflamed. They can be classified into two main types:
1. Internal Hemorrhoids
Internal hemorrhoids develop inside the rectum and are usually painless, but they can cause bleeding during bowel movements. In severe cases, they may prolapse or protrude outside the anus, causing discomfort.
2. External Hemorrhoids
External hemorrhoids form under the skin around the anus and are often painful, especially when sitting or during bowel movements. They can cause itching and swelling, and in some cases, lead to the formation of a blood clot (thrombosed hemorrhoid), which requires immediate attention.
Causes and Risk Factors of Hemorrhoids
Various factors can lead to the development of hemorrhoids, such as:
Chronic constipation or diarrhea
Straining during bowel movements
Prolonged sitting, especially on the toilet
Pregnancy and childbirth
Obesity
A diet low in fiber
Understanding these causes is essential in both preventing and treating hemorrhoids. Homeopathy treatment not only addresses the symptoms but also focuses on the underlying causes to provide long-term relief.
How Homeopathy Treatment Works for Hemorrhoids
Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that treats the individual as a whole, rather than just targeting specific symptoms. In the case of hemorrhoids, homeopathy aims to provide relief by addressing the root causes of the condition, such as poor digestion, constipation, and venous congestion.
1. Personalized Treatment
A core principle of homeopathy is personalized treatment. A homeopath considers the patient’s overall health, lifestyle, emotional state, and specific symptoms before prescribing a remedy. This personalized approach ensures that the treatment is tailored to the unique needs of each patient, making it one of the best homeopathy treatments for hemorrhoids.
2. Stimulating the Body’s Natural Healing Mechanism
Homeopathy helps activate the body’s natural healing abilities. The remedies are designed to activate the body’s defenses, helping to reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and promote healing in the affected area. This holistic approach not only provides relief from the symptoms of hemorrhoids but also helps to prevent recurrence, making it one of the most effective hemorrhoids homeopathic remedies.
Why Choose Homeopathy Treatment for Hemorrhoids?
Many patients are drawn to homeopathy treatment for hemorrhoids due to its holistic approach and lack of side effects. Here’s why homeopathy is considered one of the best treatments for hemorrhoids:
1. Safe and Natural
Homeopathic remedies are made from natural substances and are highly diluted, making them safe for people of all ages, including pregnant women and the elderly. Unlike conventional medications, homeopathic remedies do not cause side effects or dependency, making them a gentle yet effective option for treating hemorrhoids.
2. Long-Term Relief
While conventional treatments like creams, ointments, and surgery may provide temporary relief, homeopathy aims to address the root causes of hemorrhoids. By treating the underlying issues such as poor digestion and venous congestion, homeopathy offers long-term relief and reduces the likelihood of recurrence, providing natural remedies for hemorrhoids.
3. Customized Treatment Plans
Homeopathy recognizes that each person’s symptoms and health conditions are unique. The treatment is tailored to the individual’s specific needs, ensuring that the remedy not only alleviates the symptoms but also improves overall health and well-being.
4. Integrating Homeopathy with Lifestyle Changes
For the best results, homeopathy treatment for hemorrhoids should be complemented with lifestyle changes that support digestive health and prevent the recurrence of hemorrhoids. Here are some tips to enhance the effectiveness of homeopathic treatment:
5. Increase Fiber Intake
A diet rich in fiber helps to soften stool and reduce the strain during bowel movements, which is crucial in preventing and managing hemorrhoids. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes to support regular bowel movements.
6. Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water is essential for maintaining healthy digestion and preventing constipation. Aim to drink at least 8–10 glasses of water a day to keep your stools soft and easy to pass.
7. Exercise Regularly
Regular physical activity helps to improve circulation and reduce the pressure on the veins in the rectal area. Incorporating exercises like walking, swimming, and yoga into your routine can help prevent the development of hemorrhoids and improve overall health.
8. Avoid Prolonged Sitting
Sitting for long periods, especially on the toilet, can increase the pressure on the rectal veins and contribute to the formation of hemorrhoids. Take regular breaks to stand up and move around, and try to limit the time you spend sitting on the toilet.
Conclusion: Embrace Homeopathy for Effective Hemorrhoids Treatment
Homeopathy offers a powerful and holistic approach to treating hemorrhoids, addressing both the symptoms and underlying causes of the condition. With its safe, natural remedies and personalized treatment plans, homeopathy provides long-term relief and helps prevent recurrence, making it one of the best treatments for hemorrhoids. By integrating homeopathy treatment with healthy lifestyle changes, you can effectively manage hemorrhoids and improve your overall well-being.
