I think the crux of the issue with the ending of season 8 and 8B more broadly is that Bobby’s death took away from everyone else’s storylines without adding anything to the story.

I am not against killing off a main character in a show. But I’m a firm believer that if it’s done, it must be done properly. It should add to the other characters and the show, not take away from them. It’s become apparent that Tim Minear and the broader writing room did not have the time/resources to address such a monumental storyline like the death of the Captain of the 118 (the heart of the show and the team) in the way that they should have. Instead, what’s left is a death that feels unsatisfactory to the audience and poorly concluded storylines for the rest of the characters.

Buck twirls you around, strong arms circling your waist. Your feet don't touch the ground as he spins you, the skirt of your dress billowing in the breeze. You lean back in his hold, and catch sight of Eddie throwing Christopher up in the air, both of them laughing.

Buck puts you down and grins at you, Cheshire cat smile bright and blinding. You smooth your hands across his chest, flattening out his crisp white dress shirt where you've crinkled it. You tug at his bow tie, straightening it gently. Your gaze meets his, and you beam at him.

"Have I told you how handsome you look tonight, Evan Buckley?" you tease, wrapping your arms around his neck to sway with him. There's a smooth, jazzy melody echoing through the huge backyard, illuminated by golden, twinkling lights.

He quirks a brow at you cheekily before answering.

"I wouldn't mind hearing it again."

"I'm sure you wouldn't," you laugh, shrieking as he dips you backwards quickly.

"Well, you look very handsome. I like you in a tux."

You swear you see him blush slightly, heat creeping across his cheeks. He finds his confidence again, sliding his hands across the exposed skin of your back slowly.

"You are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen," he tells you sincerely, eyes never leaving yours. "I should tell you that more often."

"Yes, you should," you tease, grinning at him.

You take notice of his smile, his relaxed shoulders, the way he's swaying with you effortlessly.

"You love weddings, don't you?"

"Hell yeah I do!" he replies delightedly. "Everyone I love all in one place, dancing, music... what more could you want?"

You can't wipe the smile off your face. He's right. The entire 118 is here, together as a family. Everyone is happy, excited to be celebrating Bobby and Athena's vow renewal. It's not often you all get to leave work at work and enjoy yourselves completely. You plan to make the most of every single second.

You feel two warm hands find your hips from behind, instantly leaning back into the broad chest behind you, knowing who it is immediately.

"Hola, Mr Diaz."

"Hola, hermosa."

"You gonna keep her all to yourself all night, Buckley?" he asks, wrapping his arms around you, over the top of where Bucks are already resting. You're sandwiched between the two of them, completely content.

"We were avoiding you and your terrible dance moves," Buck jokes, the three of you swaying together now.

"Are you hearing this?" Eddie asks incredulously, chuckling into your ear. "My terrible dance moves?"

"Don't listen to him, Eds. His ego lies to him."

"It's called confidence! Sorry if I have faith in my dance moves!"

The three of you laugh, bodies and souls tangled and intertwined on the dance floor.

Across the backyard, Chimney and Hen are sat at their table, watching you, Buck and Eddie move to the music, arms wrapped around one another.

"They really love each other, don't they?"

"Oh, yeah," Hen laughs. "Wish they'd all just admit it."

Chimney looks at his best friend in confusion, brows quirked and face crumpled.

"... What?"

"Oh, come on, Chim," Hen chuckles. "It's twenty twenty three. Get with the program."

"You mean, like, love love," Chim confirms, still puzzled.

"Yes, Howie. Love love. In love. The three of them are completely in love."

Chimney processes for a moment, before a light bulb goes off in his head.

"Oh, shit!" he laughs. "They totally are!"

"Damn, men are oblivious. How am I the only one that's noticed?"

"You aren't," Bobby and Athena say in unison, pulling out chairs to sit at the table.

"But we can't rush them. Good things like this take time," Athena offers.

Bobby glances over at the dance floor. You're holding Buck and Eddie's hands, and Chris is too, the four of you dancing and laughing. He smiles for moment, before speaking.

"You know they basically live together?"

When he's met with confused faces, he continues.

"They all crash at Eddie's place with Christopher so often, they've practically moved in. Buck hasn't slept in his own apartment in months."

"I mean, how do you even... navigate something like that? The three of them? It's so complicated," Chimney asks genuinely.

"They'll figure it out," Bobby assures. "They always do."

With that, he rises from his chair and across the yard. He scoops Christopher up into his arms, promising him cake and soda, much to Eddie's dismay. He winks at Buck before carrying Chris away, leaving the three of you alone.

Eddie surprises you by grabbing your hand and then Bucks, pulling you both away from the crowd.

"Come on. I wanna show you something."

He leads you up and into the guest bathroom of the house, rolling his eyes at you and Bucks suggestive comments. He's first to climb out the window and onto the roof, making sure you get through safely in your dress.

The three of you sit and watch your friends in the yard below, quietly reflecting. You're suddenly aware of the way you're sandwiched in between them again, thighs pressed together. You lean left and rest your head on Eddie's shoulder, interlinking your right hand with Bucks.

"How lucky am I?" you breathe. "To be surrounded by so much love."

Eddie rests his head atop of yours, smiling as he watches Buck lean in to rest his on your shoulder. The three of you exhale.

"We're the lucky ones," Buck murmurs. "I never thought I'd have this."

"Well you do," Eddie reassures. "And we're not going anywhere, Buckley."

"He's right, Buck. We're not going anywhere. Ever."

Evan sits up to kiss you on the cheek, before leaning over you and doing the same to Eddie.

The three of you sit on the roof, bodies and souls intertwined, illuminated by the moonlight. How lucky you are, to be surrounded by so much love.

Notes - Season 8, Episode 15 Spoilers // it's a bad week to be a tlou and 911 fan but at least I'm uploading because of it

You’d been in LA for six months now and still hadn’t gotten used to it. For the first few months you’d just sit in your apartment, not leaving unless you absolutely had to, which between all the delivery services out there was rare. 

Eventually though you had to get on with your life. You had to start the fresh beginning you’d come here for. 

So you forced yourself to start functioning like a proper human being, forced yourself to leave the safety of your apartment and go to a coffee shop a few blocks down the road, forced yourself to go for a walk along the pier, forced yourself to go grocery shopping. 

To anyone else it wasn’t an achievement, it was just everyday life but to you it was big. 

You’d been reckless back when you were a part of Station 252, an awful relationship, one that had left you a shell of yourself, that had seen you putting yourself into unnecessary situations both on and off the job. Eventually your reckless behaviour had been enough to cause a call to go wrong, people had been hurt because you weren’t focused, because your mind was so far away from the scene. 

Yet they hadn’t fired you, you’d been transferred out to LA. You hadn’t spoken to anyone from the new fire house but the Captain had reached out when you got here, assuring you the job was there when you were ready to take the test that would tell you if you were stable or not to go back. 

Six months in LA and you had finally felt ready to take it. You were still broken, still had to deal with the fears and the ghosts from your old life but you wanted to go back to work. 

And so you did. 

You passed the test, shocking even yourself when they’d given you the all clear and spent the morning getting ready, feeling like a bag of nerves as you walked into your new fire house. 

You saw some of the team had gathered up the stairs, two of the men cooking whilst the others sat at the table, all five of them talking and laughing and it made you relax slightly, calmed the thunderous beating of your heart as you climbed the stairs and stood just beyond the scene.

The older of the two men cooking was first to notice you, the small furrow of his eyebrows as he looked at you was quickly replaced by a kind smile, drawing the attention of the others. 

“Um, hi, can we help you?” The other man cooking asked and before you had a chance to reply the man with the kind smile answered. 

“This is Y/N, right?” He asked you and you nodded, watching as he stepped around the counter and made his way over to you. “Y/N here is joining us from New York.”

“No way, that’s so cool! Why didn’t you tell us?” The man asked before turning to you. “Welcome to the 118. I’m Buck, that there is Eddie, then we have Chim and Hen and that there is our Captain, Bobby Nash.”  

You smiled at everyone, giving a polite wave and was shocked by how genuine your smile was. 

“Buck, watch the food, I’ll be right back.” Bobby said as he gestured for you to follow him to his office and you felt your stomach drop. 

“Relax, I’m not here to pick apart your life up in New York.” Bobby said as you both sat down and you nodded, the tension not leaving your shoulders. “I am here though if you need anything. Doesn’t matter what it is, you need me, you pick up that phone and call.”

“That’s it?” You couldn’t help but ask, feeling taken aback with how seriously he’d seemed to mean his words. “No list of rules for me to stick to, no threats looming over my head of what happens if I ever spiral again?”

“You’re gonna spiral again, Y/N. One day you could be great and then the next something’s gonna hit you, it might be your old life, it might be something that triggers you on the job. When that happens, you come to me. I can’t promise I can fix it but I can promise you won’t be alone.” Bobby told you, his voice kind and soft but filled with so much conviction that you trusted him without knowing him. 

“That’s it?” You asked softly in disbelief causing him to chuckle. 

“That’s it. You came here for a new start, Y/N, I’m not treating you any different to how I treat the others. You’re one of us now.” 

His words had your eyes stinging but you kept yourself composed and nodded, choking out a thank you that had the man grinning and gesturing for you to follow him back to the others, Bobby’s hand holding your shoulder the whole time and never straying too far as you got to know the team. 

Things had been good, it had been a year since you moved to LA and six months since you’d become a part of the 118, the firehouse feeling more like home than anywhere else ever had. 

Things had been good. 

Then you had a call that left your hands shaking. It hadn’t even been a particularly bad call to begin with, it was a building fire but it was easy enough to get in and out of, passing civilians down to safety without trouble.

Then the building shook and your heart leapt, remembering the last time you’d been in this situation. 

It was the last call before you were sent away and you hadn’t bothered securing your safety equipment properly. It was routine enough that you thought you’d be in and out but then just as you picked a child up ready to get him out, the building shook violently and you felt yourself falling. 

Thankfully, despite the drop, you’d kept the kid safe, hurting yourself in the process but that didn’t matter. 

It wasn’t long after that you found yourself no longer a member of the 252. 

“Hey Y/N!” You heard Buck call through the radio and it snapped you back to reality, your hands gripping your safety harness so hard your knuckles were white. “Y/N, do you copy?”

Your throat was dry, you opened your mouth but couldn’t answer, the panic had already built up and worsened as the building shook again.

You knew you had to get out, so why couldn’t you move?

“Y/N?” Buck tried again, the rest of the 118 stood outside looking up at the building and Buck looked at Bobby desperately. 

“I’m going in.” Bobby said when you failed to respond, watching Buck shake his head but didn’t protest when Bobby gave him a sharp look. 

Bobby made his way through the building, the smoke blocking his view for the most part but he found you easy enough, you were frozen to the spot, one hand gripping your safety harness whilst the other held the wall like it was the only thing grounding you. 

“Hey kid,” Bobby called and he watched as your head snapped up, your wild, panicked gaze meeting his calm one. “You’re okay, you did good. We got everyone out and nobody got hurt.”

He watched you take a moment to process his words before you nodded, not taking your eyes off of him. 

“You did good but we need to leave, Y/N.” He said softly, reaching out a hand for you to grab.

You looked at Bobby’s hand, steady and still, and watched as your own finally reached for him, shaking violently, only stopping when Bobby wrapped his around yours. 

“That’s my girl.” He smiled over at you and you couldn’t stop the ragged breath that left you, body on autopilot as you let Bobby lead you out, just in time for the building to crumble. 

The team immediately encompassed you and despite how foggy your mind felt, despite how overwhelming it was, you couldn’t stop the warm feeling that spread through you at how much they cared. 

Plus Bobby’s hand was still in yours, giving it a reassuring squeeze. 

Bobby was tempted to pull you into his office once you’d all arrived back to the house but he stopped himself. This was the first time you’d faltered since being here and he wanted to see if you would come to him on your own. 

It took nearly an hour but Bobby had to fight back a smile when he saw you approaching him, clearly nervous but his words from the first time you’d met had been playing in your head since you got back. 

“I froze.” You said after a few minutes of sitting next to Bobby in silence.

“You froze.” Bobby agreed and you looked over at him, his eyes as kind as they always were, a steady, unshakable force that you needed. 

“What if I can’t do this job anymore? What if every time a building shakes all I see is me falling, see the kid in my arms sobbing in fear?” You asked, tears stinging your eyes. 

“You can do this job, Y/N.” Bobby told you and his words were so certain that you believed them too, a shuddering breath escaping you. “Everyone got out safely because you made sure they did. You froze, it happens. That’s the beauty of the 118, you freeze? It doesn’t matter, we’re all here for each other, if you can’t get out on your own, we’ll come get you.”

You let out a small sob and Bobby couldn’t stop himself from wrapping his arms around you, smiling as you buried yourself into his chest. 

“I told you, you’re one of us. We’re here to you, you’re not alone anymore, Y/N.” 

“I don’t deserve it.” You mumbled into his chest and Bobby sighed, running his hand up and down your back. 

“Everyone on this team has done something they think they can’t atone for but they can. This team is never going to hold your actions over you, they’re gonna drag you through the tunnel to the other side, trust me I know that better than anyone.” Bobby told you softly and you looked up at him with a shaky smile. 

“I’m glad I got sent here, couldn’t imagine not having you by my side.” You told him, smiling as he pulled you further into his arms and held you tightly. 

“Me too, kid.” He murmured softly, not at all surprised by how much he’d meant those words, between you and Buck the father instincts he thought were long gone were being dragged up to the surface, protective of the two youngest of his team. 

You’d meant it though, despite only being a part of the 118 for six months, it was hard to believe you’d gone so long without knowing Bobby. His kind, steady presence was what you depended on, the way it was so easy to talk to him, easy to trust him. You couldn’t picture a world without him anymore. 

Despite all the bad things that had happened in New York, despite all the hurt and guilt and regret you carried, you were glad for it because without it you never would have met Bobby Nash and that was the biggest tragedy of them all.

Maddie turned back to her station and answered the incoming call.

“911, what’s you’re emergency?”

“Help, I’m trapped,” the voice said on the other end of the line. It sounded vaguely familiar.

“Ok can you tell me where you’re trapped?”

“It’s small and dark. I don’t know.”

“That’s okay we’ll figure it out. Can you tell me your name sir?”

“Bobby. Bobby Nash.”

Maddie gasped.

Bobby continued, “I’m underground, maybe? I smell dirt.”

“Ok we’re going to get you some help Bobby, just hang on for me.”

“Maddie, can’t breathe.”

Gasping sounds came from the other end of the line. Tears streamed down Maddie’s face.

“Try to calm your breathing. Preserve your oxygen.”

“No time, tell Buck I love him. Tell him he’s going to be okay”

Buck sat straight up with a gasp clawing at his chest. His sheets, tangled and soaked with his sweat, were clinging to his body and making his skin crawl. Buck threw them off and was putting on clothes before he even knew what he was doing. He grabbed his keys, got in his car and drove. No destination in mind.

He was pulling into a neighborhood when his breaths started coming in quick panicky pants. Too overwhelmed to focus on driving, he pulled into a driveway.

Buck pressed his palm into his sternum hoping to ground himself from the panic. He took a few breaths before he was able to see straight again. It was then that he realized where he was.

He stepped out of the car, bracing himself on the hood for a minute to steady his legs. Once Buck was sure they wouldn’t collapse under his weight, he made his way to the front door. He hesitated briefly before raising a hand to the door and knocking. Buck’s realizing that it’s the middle of the night and there’s no guarantee of an answer. But he can’t go back to sleep with the image of Bobby buried in the dirt, struggling to breath. Saying those damn words.

He knocked a little harder this time, still to no answer. He was about ready to give up and head home when a light came on inside. Buck let out a breath he didn’t even know he’d been holding. He heard the dead bolt unlatch before the light of the door opening caused him to squint.

“Evan?”

His voice was slightly hoarse from the sleep Buck no doubt interrupted. But he couldn’t find it in himself to feel guilty.

He had been leaving the funeral, Bobby loaded on a plane so he could go home and be laid to rest with his family. Buck wasn’t needed anymore. Maddie and Chim were leaning on each other. Hen had Karen to support her. Athena had her kids in Minnesota with her. But Ravi and Eddie invited him to go out for a few drinks in Bobby’s honor. So he would go and humor them for the perfectly acceptable amount of time before finding an excuse to leave.

He was a few steps behind them when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Tommy’s hand.

“Evan, I-”

“You don’t have to-”

“But I want to. I know we’re not us right now, but if you need anything, day or night, I’ll be here.”

Buck hadn’t been in the right frame of mind to accept it then, but it’s like his body knew this is where he needed to be tonight.

He was fidgeting a lot. But he still had some anxiety left over from the nightmare that sent him running here.

“Evan?” Tommy asked again, “Are you okay?”

The tears started flowing before Buck even comprehended Tommy’s question. His knees decided to stop working in that moment and he was falling. Luckily Tommy was there to catch before he could hit the ground.

He was sobbing, unable to stop the emotions that had been building for the last couple of weeks. Buck clung to the only man who could potentially bring him comfort tonight.

“It’s okay Evan. Let it out. I’m here,” Tommy soothed while rubbing circles along Buck’s back.

When the sobs slowed down, Tommy guided Buck inside and settled them on the couch.

“Do you want to talk about it? Or do you want something to distract you?” Tommy asked.

“I’m so tired,” Buck replied not really answering either question.

“We can go to my room and watch a movie until you fall asleep?” Tommy offered.

And that sounded like the best idea Buck had ever heard. He nodded and let Tommy lead him back to his bed. Buck quickly nestled himself into Tommy’s side while the other man looked for a movie to watch. Buck didn’t even notice what he chose nor pay any attention to it after. All he could focus on was the feeling of Tommy’s arms around him and the familiar scent of the man he loved.

After who knows how long, Buck finally got the courage to croak, “Tommy I-”

“You don’t have to-”

“I know but I want to. Thank you for this. For everything. I- We should talk,” Buck kept his eyes focused on the piece of fuzz on Tommy’s shirt directly in front of his eyes.

“We will. But in the morning. Right now, we both need sleep.”

Buck nodded against his chest and he felt like he could breathe just a little bit easier than he had been since Bobby’s death. Sleep finally claimed him as he snuggled closer to Tommy’s chest.

I feel that if I’m going to post about my feelings on 911 8x15, I should probably do it now. It’s been a couple of days since I watched the episode and I’ve had time to process it. I’m not marking spoilers as it’s been almost a week, but I’ll put a cut.

I’m sad, I’m devastated, but I’m not mad. I loved this episode, and acting wise and filming wise it’s one of my favorites.

Bobby deserved more time. He deserved to make his home with Athena and live out his days in retirement, being the father figure to everyone, mentoring Hen in her journey as Captain, and playing with Hen, Chim, and Buck’s kids.

That’s storytelling. Bobby’s death was supposed to hurt. It was supposed to hit you right in the feels and make you cry at the injustice of it.

This could’ve played out very different. How have we all watched it play out on other emergency procedurals, cop shows, the like? He could’ve gotten blown up. He could’ve been shot dead in the street. But Tim and the writers made it so that he got to say goodbye to his beloved wife and pseudo-son. We got closure. We got a goodbye.

They really took our hands and said, “Hey it’s gonna suck, and you’re gonna cry a lot, but we’re going to give you something to hold on to”.

The actors acted their FUCKING ASSES off. We’re all sobbing and devastated because Peter, Angela, Aisha, Kenny, Oliver, Lou, Anirudh, and Tracie poured their hearts and souls into this episode.

This episode, and the following ones, will be a beautiful tribute to Peter and Bobby. Peter’s acting as Bobby, who died to make sure his team got back to their families because he knew there was no way everyone walked back out of the lab, is a credit to Peter himself and perfectly on par with Bobby’s character.

While I think the same thing could’ve been accomplished through retiring Bobby, the show was getting too stagnant. No one was accomplishing anything career wise, we kept recycling old storylines or launching new bad ones (cough, doppelgänger, cough).

Now Hen is next up for new captain. Gerrard won’t be staying; he’s only there temporarily. I’m going to smack the next person that I see says Buck should be the new captain; he has half the experience of Hen and is only just settling into security of his current position. (Not saying everyone is intending this, but stop trying to promote your favorite white boy over a much more qualified Black woman.) I will accept no one else.

So Hen gets promoted, Ravi could stay on as a main and someone for Buck to mentor, and Eddie could come back and become Chim’s new med partner (because Bobby dying thoroughly tramples the idea that Ryan/Eddie is leaving, imo. They’re not getting rid of two mains). As there is no doubt in my mind that BuckTommy are getting together by the end of the season, Tommy could stay on as a prominent side character.

This doesn’t make Bobby’s death any easier or better, I know! But there’s going to be a show after Bobby.

I say I need to make this post now, because I’m getting very frustrated at some of the sentiments I see being spread through the fandom. And I’m trying to let it go because everyone grieves differently, but people are becoming far too comfortable giving out death threats to the writers and Tim. And I’m hating seeing the fandom spear and use Kenny as a figurehead and rallying cry for their hate.

Do I think Bobby’s secretly alive? Not at all. Everything has been extremely final. Do I recognize the show exists for whimsy and backtracking isn’t excluded from said whimsy? Yes. But I’m 99.9999999% sure this is it.

I might do my BuckTommy thoughts in another post. I’d rather leave this one for Bobby.

All right 8x14 thoughts…

Now everyone keep in mind that this is just my personal opinion about the episode. There’s no right or wrong here, just subjective opinions. 🤗

I liked this episode a lot. I was at the edge of my seat the entire time. The episode was well structured and the stakes felt high. But to call it one of the best episodes of 911 ever? Not even close. The thing is, I wasn’t ‘moved’ by any of it. Normally I tend to cry over something every single episode, but this time I didn’t. There was not enough ‘heart’ in it somehow.

I liked the baby-storyline in the beginning and how Ravi doubted himself, with Buck helping him out. But it felt a little out of place in this episode. I get why they did it. They wanted to give Ravid his heroic moment at the end of the episode with the anti-virus. But it felt a little too on the nose for me.

I do love how they managed to sneak in a little Eddie mention when Buck told Ravi that no one is allowed to leave anymore. ❤️

Everyone is in danger right now. Chimney is dying from a virus. Hen has a collapsed lung, which can’t be good for her and Bobby and Ravi are stuck with them. The Army has no intention of rescuing them and no one can get out. So it’s up to Buck and Athena to find Moira now and get the ball rolling.

So we’ll see that happening in 8x15 and they’ll of course find the anti-virus and save Chim right on time. We already know that. Bobby’s fate is still a wild card at this point, because of that funeral bts. Even though I don’t believe for a second they’ll actually kill him.

The thing is though… Chimney in danger again? This soon after his near death? Bobby in danger again? This soon after his heart attack AND almost blowing up at the beginning of the episode? The only one who hasn’t been hurt for a while was Hen, so she might have had an nde coming. It all felt very repetitive somehow.

And let’s talk about who was missing in this episode. The lack of Eddie was glaring. The man is an ex-army medic. He would have fit right in in this episode. I cannot for the life of me understand why this show wouldn’t have pushed this story-idea to season 9, so he could have been there right with them. It would have made so much more sense as a season opener and the story would have hit so many more beats. Eddie knows the army-protocols. He could have been an asset. It just didn’t make any sense.

Him being there would have upped the stakes even higher with Buck being on the outside and the fact that we haven’t had an Eddie nde for a while now. It simple would have made for a more entertaining and satisfactory episode.

And like I said, I like Ravi a lot, but I’ve been with Eddie and the rest of the 118 for years now. They have all of my heart. And for me the 118 definitely includes him. Without Eddie something just feels off. So yeah, I would have rather seen Eddie there than Ravi or even both of them together. As long as he was there. 🤷‍♀️

It seems that they moved all Eddie scenes to episode 13 and I suspect a few to episode 15 as well. They can’t do two episodes in a row without Eddie. The people would riot! He has to be there in some capacity.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to next week to see how they’ll solve this problem and yes, I’m looking forward to seeing Eddie on my screen again. What can I say? He is my absolute favourite character.

okay hot take i'm devastated but i think a little death here and there adds spice to a long running ensemble procedural and it made sense that it was bobby. and i think it was handled with a lot of grace too.

death is final and sad and nobody's going to like bobby dying but. he went in the most true to character way, trading his life for the lives of the people he loved, preventing a deathly pandemic because it ends with his body in that bag, and like a true captain he kept his cool and once everyone was safe he gave closure to those who would need it most as foreshadowed by hen and ravi's conversation.

it sucks that eddie wasn't there and that he'll have to know that it was tommy doing the heroics for chim (which to me was as much redemption as were gonna get for him, look, he knows he was a racist asshole and he's making up for it in the way he can), and he's gonna be in the torment nexus thinking of how things would've been different if he was in there although bobby didn't get infected because of anyone and it probably couldn't have been prevented, but that's eddie's mind for you. we also don't know for sure that the call will be off screen for eddie and bobby's death gives him something to think about, because he's been complacently sitting on his 'tomorrow isn't promised' philosophy too long. it opens up a door for someone from the 118 to step into the captain position and that leaves an empty spot ravi can fill. we've been rallying for ravi main and main spots this late in an ensemble show come at a cost.

it's incredibly sad, but it is a firefighter procedural. firefighters die. chim is the man and father he is because kevin died. eddie is where he is because shannon died and despite all the hate the kim arc gets i think it showcased perfectly just how deeply she haunts eddie's narrative still and how much he needed the closure he was looking for in the episode she was killed. you look me in the eye and tell me not even once as a teenager you fixated weirdly on someone who looked a lot like that one ex who did a number on you and told yourself you just had a type. eddie is in a lot of things a big man child and he handled it as well as can be expected of him.

lastly, captain nash has been steadily blending into the background more and more and doing less impressive stunts, which makes sense because peter is getting older and angela is in her late 60s too. 911 is also at its audience peak so it was a matter of now or never in terms of offsetting a dive in ratings, and it leaves a possibility for athena to retire organically to enjoy her children in a season or two. i'll take an intentional death any day over pk deciding the show is too taxing on him and having them rush out his exit.

Ngl I’m struggling with the new episode. Part of me wants to see how 8x18 plays out before overreacting, but the rest of me thinks that I should have known 8x14 thru 8x16 was too good to be true because a lot of the 8x17 choices were…yikes. It just feels like we are back to 8a and Tim knowing where he wants the story to end up and then making the laziest writing decisions to get there.

Hen suddenly deciding that she doesn’t want to be captain even though she has been acting Captain on multiple occasions and kicked ass doing so is like Hen’s medical school detour all over again. The only narrative justification for that I can see is either 1) she changes her mind due to the events in the next episode or 2) Tim wants to introduce a new character to come in from the outside to be captain. 1) is lame and 2) a new character could be good for the show but it would have been nice if Tim opted for brave storytelling and wrote Hen wanting the job but not getting the offer. That way would have accomplished the goal of introducing a new character while creating tension between the new captain and the 118 and not flip flopping on Hen as a character.

As for the others, making Buck the 118 doormat won’t make him getting back together with Tommy feel earned. Depicting Buck and Eddie having such a bad friendship won’t kill Buddie in the eyes of BoBs particularly when the show doesn’t frame Eddie as being abusive (although that’s what he was). Having Chim mini spiral is going to be quickly resolved since he has a new baby about to pop making his story a nothing burger.

And don’t get me even started on the number of Eddie storylines that were either dropped completely or else resolved in the most unsatisfying way. We’ve been told all season long that Christopher is happy in Texas. Eddie bought a house and finally has a job offer in El Paso. For all of that to just be tossed and have him decide to come back to LA in the next episode will be ridiculous if that’s the route Tim goes (particularly when a minimal amount of advanced planning on Tim’s part could have made the decision on whether or not Eddie is staying in Texas a flexible one).

Tim claimed that he wanted to let the last few episodes breathe as the 118 processed and then he decided to go with some pillow therapy instead. This was more of a rant than a question because I’m struggling to see how this season could end in a satisfying way. Any insight?

I get it, because I'm struggling, too. I don't think this is an episode I'll rewatch much, if at all.

Now, I think this might not be what you wanted to hear, but my insight/opinion is that the show is going to rush through every single storyline that's left.

This is 911's standard. It's what they've done every single season, especially the ones where they had a normal number of episodes. They'll introduce conflict (even as late as the episode before the finale), and then will solve it frustratingly quickly. And then you have to suspend your disbelief for half of those resolutions, and just accept that 911 loves to initiate and create drama, but hates to take the time to actually work through it. A tale as old as time with them.

So, what I am currently expecting is for them to deal with the heavy stuff during the emergency. Go back to their personal lives after (I think it could be mid-ep), and solve their personal storylines then. Then they have a nice ending scene to make it seem like everything's good, and they didn't rush through all of that. It's classic 911, to be honest.

Okay, I ranted in my previous post about what I think and feel if Bobby is actually dead…

Now… just like Peter’s letter is the only thing that convinces me that Bobby is dead, the Halloween episode makes me 100% certain that it’s not true.

Their costumes reflected their storylines for the season. Chim - serial killer and the whole Maddie thing, Buck - cowboy as his feelings for Eddie, Eddie - kind of transformation/changes, firefighter to uber driver (and queerness), Hen - well, I feel like the mad scientist will show up in “Don’t Drink the Water”, and Bobby…

The vampire, the blood being a key part of his “life” (Bobby’s magic blood), sleeping in a coffin, being literally “undead”… And even in this episode there are references to Halloween. 1. Ravi saying “all the mad scientist items” and 2. How Bobby looks at the very end - well, it reminded me of his Halloween makeup.

So I live here, in the “Bobby is alive!” camp, it's just more fun here ^^

Of course there are many more elements circulating somewhere in the fandom that suggest that the whole thing is a fake. Personally, Halloween is the most convincing to me. 

Plus... if Bobby is alive (and, fingers crossed, comes out of his coffin in the next ep) then episodes 14 and 15 are less disappointing. Some part of me believes that after eight years and knowing these characters inside and out, Tim wouldn't permanently kill Bobby in such a weak way (without giving him a whole spotlight, without honoring this character)... and also, things in 911 don't happen by accident, so I want to believe that the way episode 15 ended is not by accident either... 

I want to believe that the payoff will blow my mind and elevate this 2-part disaster to a higher level *^^* So from now on I'll remain positive in the “Bobby is alive!” camp. I feel good here, I feel warm here, I'll stay here for the next two weeks *^^*

I try to say eat a horse instead of kms because is better for my mental health (aparently) but, cue word, try, the last episode almost kill me.

Okay, I really liked this season, is so sad like i though was going to be. I like everyones arc. I love Bobby and Michael moments.

I really like how they are writting May this season, wait to see what more they do with her.

Is complely insane to me that Eddie and Buck didn't kiss in the hospital. Bucks arc, revolves about not being wanted, and could have been Bobby, or taylor being the one that solves his arc but no, is deliberately Eddie that one that makes Buck realize his worth in the most romantic scene, more romantic scene that any scene that they have with their respective romantic interest, it dosen't makes sense that they aren't together.

Also Buck says the true in the hospital chair, it was going to be better for Chris if it was Buck, because Buck is not the father, but Eddie finally tells Buck what he did and Eddie basically tells Buck you are also the father. Idk Eddie Diaz baby trapping Buck with his own kid once again.

Anyway this is my reaction, opinion and meltdown for 911 season 4, here is season 1, season 2 and season 3. I am staring season 5 rigth now, see you when i finish it.

the way that TMA has altered my brain chemistry is unreal so here's 911 characters and their fear alignments (without having watched past season four):

Buck: I don't think his would actually be The Lonely. while that's certainly part of it, I think too much of his fear comes from the idea that he's replaceable and filling too much space and needs to hide parts of himself to be loved and if that's not The Stranger, I'm not sure what is.

(I think you could probably make a case for all of them EXCEPT the corruption. when faced with a decomposing dead body he stabs it without gloves to manually drain fluids. when faced with a maggot that had crawled from somewhere I'd prefer not to think about, he goes "maggot :D!" he's kinda chill around killer bees apparently?? I've not gotten that far. but he's not afraid of bugs or sickness or anything so long as it doesn't keep him from his people. tldr: Buck loves bugs too much to be a corruption avatar)

Eddie: that's The Desolation babey. Is terrified of losing everything, so blows up his life before anyone else can. routinely loses things, relationships, people in a dramatic fashion, usually descending into guilt spirals that makes everything so much worse. has yet to end a relationship on even remotely good terms, I think it's fair to say they'd all be better to not have been with him at all

Bobby: I'm actually not too sure about this one but I'll go with The Eye. After the fire that killed his family he talks about how he should have known better, both in doing drugs and in the building's many safety violations. He's a fire captain that takes the injuries of his people very seriously because they happened under his watch and he should have kept a closer eye on them. he's got religious guilt. he even immediately gets sucked into spying on people "just in case" just like one Jonathan Sims circa Magnus Archives season 2

Maddie: The Hunt. do I need to explain this one? her abusive husband LITERALLY HUNTED HER through the woods. not to mention her relationship with her parents. The Hunt is also the fear that the people closest to you would turn on you, and I think trying to erase your brother from existence, leaving you (a ten year old) to raise your OTHER brother, then completely ABANDONING YOU when you get into previously mentioned abusive marriage qualifies as a betrayal, one that has broken her trust in others to help her (Buckley parents when I find you-)

Chim: The Lonely. his mother died when he was young, his father barely speaks to him, one of his brothers died BECAUSE OF HIM (in his mind anyway), he refuses to admit he thinks of his found family as more his family than his blood relatives till his late thirties, and I haven't got to where Tommy gets reintroduced, but Chim's origin episode I'm sorry but he's trying a LOT, TOO MUCH to become friends with someone that's been exclusively a jerk to him, he strikes me as a lonely guy

Athena: The Hunt as well, and I'm not just saying that because she's a cop! that's only part of it- but she's also a black woman working in a police department. she's aware of how easy it is for officers to get away with basically anything, even aware of exactly how unsafe her OWN family is, yet insists on staying and insists that there are more good cops than bad. you can't tell me she doesn't doubt that every single day, and what if they prove her wrong? (remember what I said about the fear of being turned on?)

Hen: I'm feeling The End, but less in a Death™ way and more of "there's nowhere to go from here." Hen prides herself on her ability to learn and grow so naturally that hard stop, you will be exactly as you are now forever, scares her. also people keep telling me she's the only one yet to get a major near death experience soooo

Tease Tidbit Thursday

I was tagged by @inawickedlittletown last week for this and never got around to it. So here is a snippet from the final chapter of Parting Waves!

(Also an extra tease, the next part that will follow 3b canon events has the working title of Troubling Returns)

Buck smirked at the outrage on Eddie’s face as Buck clearly sided against him. Chim, on the other hand had jumped up and started taunting Eddie by doing a little dance and pointing fingers in his face.

“Loser!” he shouted, before coming over to Buck and giving him a crushing hug, “Oh, I am glad you’re back.”

Everyone seemed to pause at that for a second, even Chim. Eddie broke the silence, “Wait, are you back?”

At that moment, Bobby walked up the stairs and greeted Buck, “Hey, Buck, I am glad you could make it.”

Buck quickly hugged Bobby before they turned back to the other 3. Thankfully, Bobby started the conversation because Buck couldn’t seem to make his mouth move.

“There are going to be a couple of changes to the 118 over the next couple of months,” Bobby said as he gave him an encouraging smile. 

“I am going to be transferring back after Christmas,” Buck said as he watched excited smiles appear on Eddie and Chim’s faces and a small smile grace Hen’s. 

He continued, “I’m not coming back right away because I need to make sure I don’t leave the 217 down a helitac crew member. And,” he turned to Bobby, who gave him a small nod, “the timing just made sense, with everything else going on.” He was met with confused looks from Chim and Eddie as their eyes darted back and forth between Bobby and Buck. Hen was smiling sadly at him, but he could swear there was some pride behind it too. 

“Our shift on Christmas will be my last shift as a captain of the 118. I will be retiring from the active roster, and Captain Roger Nichols will be taking my place,” Bobby explained

“What?” Chim exclaimed, right as Eddie said, “Cap, you can’t retire.”

Bobby just shook his head, “I am at peace with my decision. After the tunnel accident, I decided I didn’t want to keep living my life for other people. I have loved being a firefighter and being your captain, but I am looking forward to more time with Athena and the kids. And as I told Buck, I just don’t think I am the best thing for this firehouse anymore. I am proud of what I managed to build and how the house flourished after we turned it around. But there is more that can be done to improve, and I don’t think I am the best person for the job considering the circumstances.”

Bobby looked at Buck as he said that last line. And Buck wasn’t prepared for what came out of Bobby’s mouth next.

“I want to apologize to you, Buck, in front of everyone. The way I treated you after the truck bombing and the blood clots was wrong, and I am sorry. I let my own feelings and past get in the way of seeing how well you were taking care of yourself despite everything being thrown your way. I am so proud of how you have grown since you were just a probie. I can’t wait to see what changes you have in mind for this house, and how you’re going to mold it into something better."

Ahhhhhhhhhhh another week another episode of 911 and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

The bad (for me) The Hen everyone forgot her birthday. This is where I feel the Taylor Wong needs to stop being allowed to write for the characters comes into play. Because she always makes them seem off. Like everyone forgot her birthday? Her own kids? Her Wife? Her mother? And then like we didn’t even see Chim really do anything to try and make up for it? Outside of a random small little balloon delivery. Like that’s her best friend and that’s all we get as a reaction to him forgetting her birthday? Also Taylor was responsible for the ooc Karen moment during Halloween with Karen suddenly freaking out over Hen missing the holiday. So this just feels even weirder.

The good: I love how they had such a good balance of calls and personal stories this episode. It was nice to see the episode split so well. I actually felt for Artie.

The great: where to start.

EDDIE GOT HIS SON BACK 😭😭😭😭😭 we have finally got them fully reunited and living together again. Their scenes were so good and loved seeing it. And them peeling away from the Diaz parents house, laughing together at the end? Just 😭😭😭😭. Now to get them back to LA.

The Diaz parents. Their (the actors)performances were so good. I truly truly despised them more and more as the episode went on. Especially Helena with all her little remarks. About Eddie cooking. Only one parent can attend. The groceries Eddie was delivering. The guilting him out of going to the chess tournament. Implying they like to spend time with Chris more than Eddie does. Ramon apparently telling people or allowing them to think he is Chris’s dad. Helena and her your just going to disrupt his life again and her ever need for control. Just 😡 but so well acted.

Eddie: 👏 👏 👏 him regaining his confidence. Bravo. The you’ll be my dad again? I’ve always been your dad. It’s time I start acting like it again. The I was gonna ask you to move back in with me but I’ve changed my mind. Now I’m telling you. You’re my kid and your moving back in with me 😭😭. And the way he handled his parents.

Leaving Ramon to take the bus back 😂😂😂

Telling Helena she is not Chris’s mother. Ramon is not Chris’s father. He is not disrupting Chris’s life he is his life. Telling her thanks for watching him but he doesn’t need you he needs me. Like get her Eddie. Get. Her. And all while never raising his voice. Which you just know how to annoy her because she was SO gunning for a fight any way she could and he just didn’t give it to her. Because he didn’t need to. He got his kid back. Period. Just every thing about that Eddie Helena confrontation was what I wanted.

Buddie: oh look at that. Once again the Buddie B plot was loud as hell. Multiple FaceTimes again. Both of them cooking together? Straight out of ao3. Eddie winking at Buck?? Like what?? We now have in canon buddie cooking together and Eddie winking at Buck. That is a thing that happened in canon. Buck yet again being exactly the co parent Eddie needs and giving him advice on Chris. And i especially loved the way we got to see Eddie actively happy to listen and get that advice from Buck but then get weird with chim hearing/being involved. Which is just…interesting considering chim has a kid and another on the way and Buck… does not. Makes you go hmmm. But back to the advice. Buck telling Eddie to Dad Up. And Eddie listening and doing just that and look what happened. He got his confidence back. He got his kid back. I’m so curious to see if we get more FaceTimes before Eddie’s back, what they are about now that Chris is back. Also the whole flirty exchange over forgetting hens birthday and Facebook 😂 they are such a married couple.

AND EDDIES CONTACT PHOTO FOR BUCK WHEN HE FACETIMED.

It being from the Maddie Buck talk in 8.11 when he’s baking in the kitchen while they discuss things. Like Buck being in love with Eddie. Like 911 I see your game. And I applaud it.

I didn't mind the Hen storyline all that much though. I mean... there are times when I even forget my own birthday. Two years ago I went through my day and it was only in the evening that I realised it was my birthday. 🤣

Also, the Hen storyline tied in nicely with Archie's story. That's probably the whole reason they did this story in the first place.

But I do understand where you are coming from. It was a bit forced in a way to fit the Archie narrative.

As for Helena Diaz? OOOH! I wanted to strangle her with her dumb remarks about Eddie's cooking. Who brings take-out when the host told you they were cooking. And Buck had given him so much confidence that he was making a great meal.

I love how Buck just keeps boosting up Eddie's confidence. He did it last episode and he did it again in 13. I love that so much!

As for the Buddie narrative as a whole? It is so obvious now that Buddie is on the way. It's such a great feeling!
