Uncharismatic Fact of the Day

Although they may not look it, coconut crabs and hermit crabs are closely related! The resemblance is strongest when coconut crabs are young; in their early juvenile stages, their shells are thin and soft, and they use seashells to protect themselves just like a hermit crab.

Whenever a hermit crab finds a shell that’s too big for it to live in, it proceeds to settle down and wait for other crabs to come

Then, they proceed to line up from biggest to smallest and exchange their shells accordingly

Hey, fun fact I learned about today - did you know that some sea anemone has a symbiotic relationship with hermit crabs?

Barnacle, miniature Karokan, she/her nb, clings to the bottom of the ship, nobody knows when they picked her up, and she was first discovered when she got mixed up and grafted onto the upper deck for a while (big tripping hazard). She occasionally comes up during storms.

She’s a Bard-barian! She plays a little click clack ditty on her claws and then bludgeons you with them.

Literal cannon fodder. To be used as a projectile, very small, vaguely pointy enough to spear things at high speeds, and eats boats.

fun fact: when hermit crabs die, they emit a special sort of smell that lets other hermit crabs know that a new shell has become available to grab.

To be succinct,

King Crab- Spiky, thought to have evolved from hermit crab ancestors.

Hermit Crab- The protective shell, often improperly cared for.

Horseshoe Crab- Weird Blood, oldest of these species, referred to as a Living Fossil (ie sort of a visual depiction of the past, and signless being a seer who also remembers a past life and. yeah.)
