The Three Gate Guardians

Yamasaki Hiymoryi: The Goddess of Depths

"You're... no, I will not allow you into this sacred place."

The eldest sibling of the three gate guardian. Hiymoryi used to be the main guardian of the limbo gate, however, after her murder by her brother's hand, the guardian title was passed down.

Hiymoryi is a tricky individual, friendly on the outside but extremely manipulative person who would do anything to get her way. She was extremely childish and petty. Many people would fall for the friendly facade.

Originally born as a deal-maker deity, Hiymoryi had always been and always will be considered a natural-born god. As a deal-maker deity, it was her nature to make deals that end in a way beneficial to her.

Although not related to the other two gate guardians, she took their last name... along with taking other things from them as well. But... her godly run was cut short by a certain someone.

"...Is... Is this re...tribu...tion...?"

Yamasaki Masayko: The Death Gate

"Ah ha ha~ What a naughty, naughty sinner... you need to be punished."

The elder brother and the middle of the Yamasaki family. After ending Hiymoryi's life with his own two hands, he became the limbo guardian. He spares all formalities, for his name will always be in your head, whether you know it or not. He's a cruel, manipulative, gaslighting man with violent tendencies and an icy smile. Beware.

Born as a human and ascended to that of a deity guardian, Masayko has always been... a little bit strange. Not fully alive, not fully dead, not fully mortal yet not immortal, he was always stuck in the in-between. Gaining the title of a god as a mortal is a difficult task, and yet, one he was able to grasp nonetheless. The limbo gate is his playground, and everyone must follow his rules. He is... rather unpleasant when he is mad.

Yuuhimiki is his younger sister, with Hiymoryi as a fake older sister. However, Masayko was never one for familiar bonds, ending Hiymoryi's life with his own two hands.

The Taegan lore fun fact: Masayko grew up deaf as a human... but that's a story you'll have to learn for yourself.

"Because I'm not telling you shit, Taegan."

Yamasaki Yuuhimiki: The Nether Jewel

"...you are... familiar..."

The younger sister of the Yamasaki siblings, and youngest of the gate guardians. As the lone survivor of the Yamasaki tragedy, Yuuhimiki aims to find what she has lost. She is a quiet and soft-spoken girl, disliking confrontation and fighting. However, if she must defend herself, she will. She's selectively mute.

Born as a human, Yuuhimiki... technically isn't a gate guardian. But, she has the strength and prowess of one. She is quiet, yet adventurous and friendly... genuinely friendly. But, she fears loss and separation... so she'll put up a wall of coldness and act emotionless to run others away.

Masayko is her older brother, although... something feels like it... changed. He used to be a lot sweeter in the past... but she doesn't know what happened to him.

"Yet... different."

The Realm's Demi Gods

Hikimori: Hidari Rokkotsu

A demi-god created from Hiymoryi's left rib after her death. It is in charge of the Nether Towers, the gateway from the natural world to the other shore and all associated areas.

Maki: Migi Rokkotsu

A demi-god created from Hiymoyri's right rib after her death. It is in charge on the cruise beyond, a boat that serves as Masayko's punishment grounds.

Qiang Haoyu: The Chessmaster

A mysterious chessmaster who lays in-between the realms in an odd pocket space. As the daughter of a god and a human, she is in a position of godly power and godly prowess... all without quite being a full god herself.

Right’s name is actually also “Raito”, just with different kanji from Philip’s “Raito”.

Right’s “Raito” is written 来斗. The first kanji means “to come”. The second kanji is literally some sort of unit of measure, but it might reference more the Japanese name for the Big Dipper/North Star, 北斗 (hokuto).

So you might be onto something with the light thing... and there’s also the fact that the Japanese have a penchant for transforming l’s into r’s.

Also... the Gaia Library is its own chronicler. It’s the repository for the memories of the Earth itself. That’s why you can look up super specific stuff in it too... like the serial number of a random piece of clothing in a really famous chain boutique (seen in W’s first episode).

But yeah... everything else...

Directions in Japanese (Part 1)

Counters

Use these two counters to count landmarks. For example: The third building   三番目の建物（たてもの） Second intersection   二番目の交差点 (こうさてん)

Patterns:

counter + の + noun 三番目の建物（たてもの）

noun + particle （を；の；に；etc.) + counter + verb (there’s nothing between the counter and verb) 建物 + を + 三番目 +  見た。(I saw three buildings)

Out of these two counters 番（ばん）is the correct one; however, if you forget it, you can use the most common and universal one つ

Right & Left

If you find it troublesome to memorize and differentiate them, remember that kanji for “migi” has a square that looks like katakana for “ro” which starts with “R” like “right” kanji for “hidari” tho has a katakana character that looks like “e” which is preceded by “L” as in “left” At least that’s what helps me :) More of directions here (East, South, West, etc.)

Location words

One thing that helps me use them correctly (more or less) is thinking “How far away FROM ME is it?”

If it’s within my reach, it’s ここ

If I can’t grab it with my hand, which means I need to relocate myself (slightly), it’s そこ.

If I can’t grab it and relocating myself will take me a bit of time, it’s あそこ

EXTRA

こ　そ　あ　words are also used when you talk about abstract ideas/matters.

1. When you and your speaker are familiar with the subject, use あ

あの時 both of you know which とき you’re talking about. I often feel as this one is used when you talk about things from the past.

One more thing to remember! When the あの時 you’re talking about becomes the main topic, you will hear こ instead of あ　この時

2. When you talk to yourself, or write in a diary you use あ as well

3. When you’re not familiar with the subject, use そ

その人 Your speaker talks about his friend, but you don’t know that friend so you refer to that friend as That man / そのひと

From my experience, it seems that you can use it to talk about ideas that aren’t yours “That idea/Your idea is great”

4. When you’re familiar with the subject, but your speaker/listener isn’t, you as the speaker will use こ (it’s close to you, so you know the subject. Your speaker will use そ)　

However, your speaker will start using こ as well when the topic of the conversation changes to the noun you started talking about first.
