📈 The Only Guide You Need to Master the Bullish Abandoned Baby Pattern
Tumblr media
Candlestick patterns have always been a trader’s secret weapon. And among the rarest — but most powerful — is the Bullish Abandoned Baby. If you’ve ever spotted this on a chart, you probably paused for a second. Is this the reversal you were waiting for?
Let’s dive into what it is, how it works, and why it matters for traders — especially in Indian stock markets.
Tumblr media
🔍 So, What Exactly Is a Bullish Abandoned Baby Pattern?
The Bullish Abandoned Baby is a three-candle bullish reversal pattern that usually appears at the bottom of a downtrend. It’s rare. But when it shows up, it sends a strong signal that the bearish trend might be reversing.
Here’s what makes up this pattern:
Candle 1: A strong bearish candle, continuing the downtrend.
Candle 2: A Doji that gaps down from the first candle. It reflects extreme indecision in the market.
Candle 3: A bullish candle that gaps up, leaving the Doji isolated.
This “abandoned” Doji — stuck between two price gaps — is where the pattern gets its name.
📌 Entity Spotlight: Steve Nison, the man who introduced Japanese candlestick patterns to the West, mentions the abandoned baby as one of the strongest reversal patterns — especially when confirmed by volume and other indicators.
📉 Why Does It Work? The Psychology Behind the Pattern
Understanding market psychology is key.
The first candle confirms bearish control.
The Doji shows a sudden shift in sentiment — neither bulls nor bears are confident.
The third candle shows bulls taking control, reversing the momentum.
It’s a complete psychological flip from fear to optimism.
🔎 Breakdown: Spotting Each Candle of the Pattern
Tumblr media
Each part of the Bullish Abandoned Baby is crucial:
Bearish Candle: Must be part of a downtrend. Large body, no ambiguity.
Doji Candle: Opens below the bearish candle. Small or no body. Shows indecision.
Bullish Candle: Opens above the Doji gap. Strong upward move with a big body.
📌 Keyword Drop: Price action, gap down, gap up, candlestick reversal, technical analysis bullish signals.
📊 Real Example from Indian Market: Reliance Industries (NSE: RELIANCE)
Let’s talk real charts.
In March 2020, right after the COVID crash, Reliance was in a heavy downtrend. On March 24, a Doji formed after a steep red candle. The next day, Reliance opened with a gap up and formed a strong green candle.
That Bullish Abandoned Baby pattern marked the start of a multi-week rally where the stock moved from ₹880 to ₹1,200+ in just 2 weeks.
✅ Confirmation: High volume on the third candle and a clear break above resistance.
🔍 Morning Star vs Bullish Abandoned Baby – Are They the Same?
Nope — they might look similar, but they’re not identical.
Morning Star doesn’t require price gaps between candles.
Bullish Abandoned Baby must have a gap down and a gap up, isolating the Doji.
The abandonment gives it extra psychological power.
📌 Semantic Difference: Abandoned Baby candlestick is more rare and considered stronger in terms of reversal reliability.
📈 How Reliable Is This Pattern? What the Research Says
A 2022 candlestick reliability study published by Thomas Bulkowski found that:
The Bullish Abandoned Baby has a success rate of 70-75% in bullish reversals.
It's more effective in liquid stocks and higher timeframes (daily or weekly).
Works best when volume increases on the third candle.
In the Indian context, traders have noted successful signals in Bank Nifty, Infosys, and Tata Motors when the pattern formed after a long sell-off.
⚠️ Note: Always confirm with volume or indicators like RSI, MACD, or trendlines.
💡 How to Trade the Bullish Abandoned Baby Pattern
Tumblr media
Here's how professional traders approach it:
Wait for confirmation: Don’t jump in after the Doji. Wait for the third candle to close green and gap up.
Entry Point: Buy slightly above the high of the third candle.
Stop Loss: Place it below the Doji’s low.
Target: Use recent supply zones or Fibonacci retracements to set your exit.
🛠 Pro Tip: Use Strike Money, an intuitive charting tool for Indian markets. It helps detect patterns like the Bullish Abandoned Baby with custom alerts and real-time data overlays.
🕵️ Where Does This Pattern Work Best? (Stocks, Forex, Crypto, Indexes)
✅ Works Best In:
Indian Stocks: Look at stocks like HDFC Bank, ICICI, TCS, etc.
Nifty 50 & Bank Nifty: Shows up beautifully on daily charts during corrections.
Forex and Crypto: Appears in BTC/INR and USD/INR pairs, especially after panic sell-offs.
📉 Avoid Using On:
Low volume penny stocks
5-minute intraday charts
Choppy sideways markets
📌 Entity Mention: Use MetaTrader, TradingView, or Strike Money to scan the market for such patterns. Some platforms even have pattern recognition scanners built-in.
🔧 Tools You Can Use to Spot It Automatically
You don’t have to stare at charts all day. Use tools to scan for it:
Strike Money: Made for Indian traders. You can create a custom scanner for “Gap Down + Doji + Gap Up.”
TradingView: Has community scripts to detect the Bullish Abandoned Baby.
Set up alerts when a Doji forms with gap confirmation — saves time and gives you early signals.
⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid with Bullish Abandoned Baby
Ignoring Volume: Volume is confirmation. Low volume = low conviction.
Forcing the Pattern: Not every Doji is an abandoned baby.
No Context: Always check the broader trend. Use higher timeframes for validation.
Skipping Stop-Loss: Even strong patterns can fail.
✅ Bonus Tip: Combine the pattern with support zones, RSI below 30, and trendline breaks for high-probability trades.
🧠 Real Insights from Indian Traders
We asked traders on Twitter and Reddit r/IndianStreetBets how they use this pattern. Here’s what came up:
“I only trade it on daily charts and after sharp corrections in large caps.” – @TraderNish
“Strike Money alerted me to a Bullish Abandoned Baby on Adani Ports in Dec 2022. I made 8% in 3 days.” – Reddit user u/QuantsAndCurry
“Pairs beautifully with RSI divergence on Bank Nifty. Game changer!” – @AlgoAbhi
🧾 Should You Trust the Bullish Abandoned Baby in Your Trading Strategy?
If you're looking for high-conviction reversal patterns, the Bullish Abandoned Baby should be in your playbook.
✅ It’s:
Visually clean
Psychologically strong
Statistically backed
Rare enough to stand out
But remember: no pattern is 100%. Use it with confluence — trendlines, indicators, and market context.
❓FAQs About Bullish Abandoned Baby
Q: Is the Bullish Abandoned Baby pattern rare? Yes. It requires two gaps — not common in all stocks or intraday charts.
Q: Can this pattern fail? Absolutely. False breakouts happen. Always use confirmation and risk management.
Q: Is it better in forex or stocks? Both work. In Indian markets, it's especially effective in large-cap stocks and Nifty components.
Q: What timeframe is best? Daily or 4-hour for reliability. Lower timeframes often create noise.
🚀 Final Thoughts
The Bullish Abandoned Baby is more than just a cool name — it's a reliable signal when used correctly. Backed by psychology, tested by research, and proven by real trades, it can be your edge in volatile markets.
Next time you spot that lonely Doji between two gaps, don’t ignore it. It might just be the start of something big.

Okay, let’s do this.
I have finished volume 1 of Otherside Picnic. Spoilers ahead I suppose.
Ended up a bit long and not very connected, just my thoughts as organized as possible.
Tumblr media
This hit me in a different way compared to the manga, because while in the manga you can see Sorawo’s fascination with Toriko, in the novel it’s actually even funnier because of how often she’s thinking about how beautiful she is, getting stunned looking at her or just having very lesbian thoughts. I thought it was exaggeration... lmao
---
I’m reminded of how often I’ll try to recommend an upcoming anime to my friends, only for it to be in some form disappointing. As examples from this season: Yuusha ga Shinda [reminder for myself to write about this] or Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu. From past seasons: Mieruko-chan, Yugami-kun or Tsugumomo.
The general idea about these anime is that they might be (very often not) good anime, but the manga is going to be superior most of the time. Whether it is because the gags fit better in manga form (Mieruko-chan), it is a subpar adaptation (Otherside Picnic !!!!) or because it doesn’t reach the “good part” in a season or two (Tsugumomo, Yugami-kun), in the end, for me to recommend this series (keyword) to people I would simply point to the manga instead.
That is to say, some series are a better fit for a particular medium. I believe that Otherside Picnic is just better as a novel. Having (more of) the inner thoughts of Sorawo so you truly feel how she sees the world is superior to the manga, where a paragraph of inner monologue might get reduced to one or two sentences.
Speaking of, even on volume 1 you can see how everyone is SO weird. Sorawo is the weirdest by far. “Yeah, my childhood was pretty average. My mom dies, my dad and grandma join a cult. There’s some beef with some other cult (?), so I spend most of high school in random places just so I don’t have to be home. Then people try to kill/kidnap me, and I had the brilliant idea of using KEROSENE to burn my family, but they got lost and died. Oh well, you know, your usual japanese childhood.”
Like memes aside, she needs to work through some (a lot) of stuff, but her serious problems also get eclipsed by her tendency to stare at Toriko while thinking about how hot/beautiful/amazing she is, and then ignore those feelings completely. When people joke about how so in denial she is, it is not an exaggeration. I lost count of all the times she compliments Toriko in her head. Several times per file.
Toriko is also out there, although in volume 1 it might not be apparent by itself. Ordering food just to watch Sorawo eat, some of the things she does/says to her would make me think she’s coming on to me, and despite how warped Sorawo’s worldview is she is rightfully scared of how casual Toriko is with handling guns. Granted, the Otherside is dangerous, so eventually one would get used to it I assume, but Toriko sees nothing wrong at all even when pointed out.
Example of how great they are for each other:
Tumblr media
Kozakura gets her own introduction and her own (shared with Sorawo) file. Her weirdness might not be visible right away, but it’s there. She “collects” artifacts from the Zone... I mean Otherside, paying an absurd[1] amount for the Kunekune’s cube. She keeps a shotgun in her house. She is also willing to stay in the Otherside, in pajamas and sandals, if it means that she might see Satsuki.
Yeah, those last two might actually be on the “normal” side considering the circumstances and relationship with Satsuki.
All of that to say: Sorawo is a fucking weirdo, but I was honestly surprised at seeing Toriko’s behavior from Sorawo’s perspective (compared to the manga I mean). I genuinely feel like she was trying to flirt with Sorawo, intentional or not I don’t know yet. It is hard to tell, made more confusing by this part:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If we take her word, she does come of as kind of reserved (shy?) when talking to other people (men(!)) so I would assume she is trying to get closer to Sorawo (in her own way) but she is just that dense and we read it through that lens, so it might have been ultra obvious for anyone other than Sorawo and we readers can’t tell because of it (or it’s a me problem and I’m reading too much into it).
---
Overall, I think reading the manga first might have been good. I can look at their actions and get even more confused. Instead of thinking of how weird they are, I’m thinking “are they just weird or really bad at comunicating” (or both).
To finish off, a bad poem (Ctrl+F beautiful):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
---
[1] A million yen is ~6700€, which means they get 3350€ for risking their lifes to bring back an artifact (if Kozakura buys it, which she didn’t when they brought back Hasshaku-sama’s hat). It might actually be a reasonable amount considering the risk of not getting paid + the dangers of the Otherside.

Therefore, it's important to develop high-quality material, produce lengthy video clips, and consist of fascinating end screen aspects.
What YouTube channel grows the fastest?
According to Business Insider, T-Series is one of the fastest growing YouTube channels for subscriber growth. With 146 million subscribers already, this channel is dominating the business stakes with their much-loved Indian themed love songs.
However you will certainly still need to use some techniques to aid your target market view right via. If the content itself without a host, after that your web content will certainly require to be curious enough and also fascinating adequate to maintain people enjoying. If you are in front of the electronic camera, you're going to require to have a big individuality or have something people aspire to listen to.
If this percent is too low, the YouTube algorithm demotes your video clip and also will not reveal it on its recommendation feed, nor in search. The problem with talking about multiple subjects is audiences will certainly be perplexed about what your channel has to do with. It belongs to McDonald's one day announcing that they'll be serving sushi and also Japanese food.

Mnemonic Based Character Learning Book Reviews
I find it interesting that often the critiques for character learning books that use mnemonics, is that the books don’t rely on etymology or teach only one sometimes-weird keyword, and sometimes the true heart of their complaint will lie in the fact they used the book for something it isn’t meant for. As in, they used it as a dictionary reference or comprehensive informational resource, instead of book aimed to teach you how to recognize and differentiate a couple thousands of characters. Or... in the worst cases... treated it like a comprehensive “learn japanese” or “learn chinese” course book, which it absolutely never is...
It’s always hard to gauge how useful those critiques are, because at the same time a lot of the people who DO finish these books all the way through will say it completely accomplished their hurdle of being able to finally write characters and recognize them when reading. So what is the truth?
A list of some mnemonic based character learning books, featuring short reviews from me is below. All books listed are 7-20$, usually available free in libraries, and have pdfs drifting around.
Tuttle Learning Chinese Characters (HSK Levels 1 -3) A Revolutionary New Way to Learn and Remember the 800 Most Basic Chinese Characters: teaches you 800 high frequency characters using mnemonics, along with a ton of applicable HSK 1-3 words. Their mnemonics are especially useful because they’re almost always written to help you remember the meaning, the tone, and the pronunciation of the characters. Also of note is that this book gives mnemonics for ALL the characters inside it, compared to alternatives like Heisig that stop providing mnemonics and force the learner to make them themselves eventually. I HIGHLY recommend this book for new chinese learners. It helps with the initial introduction into recognizing and using characters, it features a ton of highly useful characters and words, it teaches you a main definition and tone and pronunciation for all of them. It is going to be the easiest on the part of a new learner - since there is nothing required of a learner except to read it, and review it, and over time learn it. What it does not do: it teaches HSK vocabulary but it isn’t vocabulary focused, it’s character focused; it does not teach grammar; it is like all books on this list primarily aimed at teaching characters.
Reading and Writing Chinese: HSK All Levels (2,633 Chinese Characters and 5,000+ Compounds): teaches you 2,633 chinese characters, and inside character entries it contains 5,000+ compound words which are generally HSK words. It is a nice source to study all the HSK characters, and as a side effect get exposure to most of the HSK words. There is a traditional and a simplified version. This book teaches all the characters needed for HSK using either VERY SIMPLE ROUGH mnemonics or small snippets of etymology, usually. Each entry up to 1,067 contains the pinyin, stroke order, HSK related words, and sometimes a very rough mnemonic or etymology related hint to remember it. Sometimes there is no mnemonic or etymology note for an individual character. This book is great, but the biggest drawbacks are: sometimes there’s no mnemonic or etymology aid to remember characters, and after character 1,067 it gives NO mnemonics or further details - it only gives the ‘keyword,’ HSK related words, and pinyin. This book is helpful because: it gets you up to 1,000+ characters, it contains within it roughly all the characters and words you need to know up to HSK 6, it has some very light etymology notes, it has some very rough mnemonics, it has stroke order and pinyin, it is a good concise reference book. The drawbacks: it does NOT have comprehensive mnemonics like the other book mentioned before this, it does NOT have any mnemonics or etymology information for OVER HALF of the characters in the book, it does NOT have stroke order for over half of the characters in the book. After character 1,067 it is pretty much a reference book where you have to fend for yourself because there is no aid to help you remember anything. Hence, I recommend the book above for beginners and NOT this one. However, this book does have a lot of valuable information for HSK learners of all levels. And it provides SOME mnemonic and etymology aids which is better than none. I would recommend this book as a general reference for HSK characters, and possibly an aid to study the first 1,000 characters with memory aids sometimes provided within the text.
Heisig’s Remembering the Hanzi, volumes 1 and 2: This book like all Heisig “Remember the...” books, teaches learners to recognize character components and characters in order to more easily write and recognize them in the future, by providing keywords which usually (but not always) relate to the meaning of the character, along with keywords for each component part that ‘makes’ the characters (the components in these books are not always official radicals). It does not teach specific definition of characters, it does not teach pinyin. It provides mnemonics at first, then over time many of the characters are only presented with their component keywords plus their resulting character’s meaning. This is a similar structure to the Japanese version “Remembering the Kanji, volumes 1 and 3.″ I’m slightly happy to report that upon a first glance, this book seems to consistently provide more mnemonics later on for characters (for like 1/4 to 1/8 of the later characters) compared to the Japanese version which in my memory seemed to largely leave mnemonics completely reliant on the learner for long spans of text later on in those books. This book teaches you: how to make mnemonics and then starts you off with some, gives you keywords to help remember components and characters and help you make more mnemonics for your own aid in the future, aims to help you remember and differentiate characters visually. What it does not do: teach you chinese, teach grammar, teach words, teach pronunciation. It is a bare bones kind of book, and in some ways it does things the book mentioned right above does NOT do, and in some ways it contains none of the things the book mentioned right above DOES do. So I think overall both books would be useful for mostly different reasons. Heisig’s books generally, are considered good at what they do aim to do - help you recognize characters visually. But it is mostly up to the learner taking the books method of making your own mnemonics and doing it. And it is entirely up to the learner to take Heisig’s keywords and their newfound visual recognition of characters, and to then attach that knowledge to pronunciation and to real words they’re studying now/in the future. The biggest drawback I personally find, with Heisig’s books, is how few mnemonics are provided for the learner, and how much the learner is basically fending for themselves. Many other learners out there have likely mentioned that pretty much everything Heisig’s book teaches, can be studied independently for free, and learners CAN find pre-made mnemonics FOR FREE online (like kanji.koohii.com), along with on some pre-made Anki and memrise decks. So I personally recommend doing this book’s method the free way, if you’re going to do it. Unless you really want to own a physical copy of the books. Now, the CONCEPTS in these books like making mnemonics for memory are very useful, so I think it’s beneficial for learners to look up those methods themselves which will help with learning characters in general (there are many free resources to learn more about mnemonics).
Alan Hoenig’s Chinese Characters: teaches how to recognize 2,178 characters visually, using keywords as component and character meanings (which usually but don’t always relate to the actual meaning of the character), and using pre-written mnemonics for every character in the book. This last point is what, to me, makes this book MORE useful then Heisig’s. It aims to teach roughly the same thing as Heisig’s book, but unlike Heisig’s - this book has already come up with all the mnemonics a learner will need. So a learner can make their own if they wish, but it’s also completely useful as a book you simply read through and review until you learn the characters. It is the closest to book 1 on this list, in terms of ease of use for a learner. I would personally recommend book 1 on this list, then book 2 as an HSK character reference book, and then this book 4 as your next mnemonic book. And, if you already read Tuttle’s book 1, I would recommend using the same mnemonic tricks from that book to remember tone and pronunciation, and add those bits yourself onto Alan Hoenig’s mnemonics so that you can learn everything (meaning, and pinyin, and tone) instead of just the visual recognition that this specific book aims for.  (I’d recommend using that pinyin and tone mnemonic method from book 1 if you do Heisig’s books too - it’s just generally useful if you want to learn those at the same time as ‘meaning’). I deeply appreciate that this book provides pre-written mnemonics for every character inside of it. That is precisely where the HSK book (2) and Heisig’s book (3) fall the shortest, in my opinion. After this book you’d know over 2,000 characters and nearly all of the HSK characters. What it is for: remembering rough meanings and visually recognizing characters, and providing pre-made mnemonics for the learner’s ease of use. What it is not for: grammar, vocab, pronunciation, etc.
*I would like to note that for ALL of the books mentioned above I have seen multiple intermediate to advanced learners who’ve personally loved one of these books, and credited it as being very useful in learning the characters. In particular, book 1 Tuttle Learning Chinese Characters is widely loved (I would guess because it’s mnemonics are the most thorough and it teaches all very high frequency characters that are useful to beginners, along with vocabulary). If anyone ever made a similar mnemonic book to that one, but for characters up to 2,000 or 3,000? I imagine it would become the most popular character learning mnemonic book for learner’s overall, at least when it comes to sheer usability. However, like mentioned, I’ve seen some learners personally credit each of these books as their single most valuable character learning book. So depending on the person it might vary which is the most valuable, but one of these above books is probably going to have some usefulness.
Special Mention:
Chinese Blockbuster (9 book series): aims to teach the meaning, pronunciation, tone, of simplified and traditional forms of all high frequency characters. Each volume contains 500 characters. Each book uses component keywords and character key ‘meaning’ words in pre-written mnemonics to teach characters, and each mnemonic contains pronunciations and tones and meaning of the characters. The benefit to this book series is pre-written mnemonics for every single character, mnemonics that contain all necessary information (just like Tuttle Learning Characters book 1), this book series goes up into the thousands of characters up to the 4000s. It covers more characters than any other book I mentioned, and gives mnemonics for more characters than any other book mentioned. Also, along with Tuttle Learning Chinese Characters, it provides the most comprehensive character-information in it’s mnemonics. It is primarily a mnemonic book, not a reference, so I would still suggest the HSK book (2) if you need a short reference book. This book series’ other key benefit it all of it’s mnemonics cover the simplified and traditional forms of a character in a single entry. The biggest drawbacks: this series is 9 books long, and each book is $10 as an e-book and $25 as a hard copy, making this by far an intensely expensive option compared to the other books I mentioned. This series, according to reviews, uses German and French words as part of the mnemonic aids 40-60% of the time, meaning if that causes issues for the learner they will encounter this issue with roughly half of all characters. Finally, I have not used this book series so I cannot personally say how much it’s personally been useful. I do think, if a learner gets through all of Hoenig’s book and wants to learn more characters with pre-written mnemonics already provided, then continuing to learn with the later books in this Chinese Blockbuster is an option. Alternatively, if a learner gets through Tuttle’s Learning Chinese Character’s 800 character entries, and wants to use another resource with pre-written mnemonics for pronunciation/tone/meaning then moving onto this Chinese Blockbuster series would be a viable option. While this book series seems from an outsider perspective as extremely comprehensive with it’s mnemonics, the drawbacks of the large cost is considerable. The book series would certainly be cheaper if a learner already has some hundreds-1,000 characters they’ve already learned, and just wants pre-written mnemonic aids to help them with less common characters that there are less resources for. Especially since Heisig provides few pre-written mnemonics and his books only go up to 3,000 characters, and since Hoenig provides meaning-only mnemonics that only go up to 2,178 characters. If, after I personally work through Hoenig’s book, I still find pre-written mnemonics a helpful tool, I might look into using a volume from this series and actually testing how useful it is.

Day 354
This weekend was rough. Largely because it’s really, really hot.
In fact, it’s incredibly hot and that’s making my stomach act up.
Also, the world isn’t quite so kind and it’s getting into my head. People are hurting and dying and being gunned down in a country that has never really been about freedom. It… it becomes a weight at times, and while yes, I’m abroad, the recent events coupled with the KyoAni Fire have just been a bit much. It becomes scary. It becomes an intense weight. It becomes a reason to tuck away and want to never go out into the world unless absolutely necessary.
But I refuse to stop my life: I have to keep going. I can’t just hide in my home and decide to never interface with the world: I think that’s what terror –and those who perpetuate terror- would like for folks to do. They want to see the world burn: I want to see life come from the ashes and reclaim.
(I don’t genuinely want to hide: I just can’t help but sometimes feel like it.)
I’m afraid, yes, but I’m not going to stop. There’s still too much good in the world and too many attempts to do right for me to just throw in the towel.
So here’s how I’m reclaiming my week. Well, my day.
Edited my Carrd Website
In my attempt to shift my life-blogging persona into an aspect of my professional identity, I created a card. Well, now it needs a bit of an update. So I’ve gone in an updated it to look a bit crisper and more organized. It even has tabs that you can click on so I can better make it a viewable C/V that you can preview versus a really simple site.
I’ll be making it into a pinned tweet this week!
Decided that learning lettering may be beneficial to my current long-term goals
So over the past few months, I’ve been considering entering translation and localization, largely because my experience with Japanese and English has really encouraged me to do something I love with those skills. But this weekend, I considered lettering as part of that overall goal, and found that that felt right.
The former is a solid goal: while I’ll still work towards having a solid day job for things like health care and steady funds, I have plans to also begin my work with freelancing in translation and localization.
I’m going to focus on proficiency in CSP, or Clip Studio Paint. I have access to the program on my iPad, which would be a tool I’d be using should I also choose to do lettering. I’d also like to get some basic understanding of Photoshop under my belt again: I had a decent level of proficiency in high school and college, but it’s also been... 10 years since high school and six since undergrad. A refresher might be good.
(Lookin’ at you Udemy: run a special so I can buy some courses!)
At most, it’s part of my potential plans for next year. At minimum, it’s a new skill that I can use for my own private purposes. Overall, it’ll give me an appreciation of all the hard work that goes into lettering manga, both in Japanese and English. And honestly, I think a deeper appreciation for what a lot of my friends do can be only beneficial.
(Now to figure out the other aspects of my goals... I’ll get there in due time!)
Chose two manga to practice translation (and potentially lettering) with
So I received an incredibly kind offer last night: the chance to have some of my translation practice reviewed. Of course, I said yes: this is essential to my growth, and a good chance to practice accepting help and kindness.
So naturally, that means making a choice.
And I did, this morning, very spur of the moment: a manga about gothic Lolita clothing and growing up (着たい服がある / Working Title: Those Clothes I Want to Wear) and a manga about koto and the feeling of falling in love with music (この音とまれ! Working Title/Official Title: Sounds of Life!).
They’re both from two different genres with two very different stories. I think they’ll help me a lot with my ongoing private practice and study.
My goal is do a first read through by next Wednesday. Then I can do a second of the first chapter, and take notes. After that… we’ll start translating and localizing the text. I’ll also be building my first Word Bank (a file with keywords and phrases to help keep things in order) alongside my work.
I already have a bit of an idea of how I want things to shake out, but it’ll take a deeper dive into reading both volumes –and watching the manga for KonoOto- for me to decide the direction I’d go if given these are work.
Thankfully, what this’ll do is give me a base for my portfolio: I really want to have six to eight samples across multiple genres for next year when I start shopping myself around. Also, this is a bit of prep for the Manga Translation Battle, which I will enter without the intent of winning. (Winning would be great: having eyes on my work is even better.)
Once more, it’s win-win, which is exactly what I like!
Did Some Listening Practice w/ New Game!
It’s what’s on the tin: I did some listening practice with the anime New Game! It’s cute, and surprisingly, really easy for me to understand. Bit by bit, I’m getting better at catching words and phrases without subtitles. I’m gonna watch a few more episodes over very late dinner, and then pick up studying at my desk tomorrow!
Read for Pleasure
Something I’ve struggled with over the past few months is taking time for myself to enjoy reading. I think when I read lately, it’s usually in the context of study or knowledge gaining, or something of the like: it’s never expressly for the purpose of pleasure.
So… I picked up my brand new copy of Dianna Wynne Jones’ Fire and Hemlock and J-Novel Club’s physical release of Hiratori Ko’s JK Haru is a Sex Worker in Another World and let myself have some levity this evening, even if I didn’t read for too terribly long.
A habit is made in small steps, not great leaps.
But I have to say that reading on the train, on my sofa bed after dinner…
…simple perfection.
All together a really successful day! I'm so proud of myself for doing a good amount of things. I'll do even more tomorrow! For now... late dinner and ice cream! Yay!

The Complete Guide to Baby Names: Choosing with Meaning and Style
Choosing the perfect name for your little one is a joyful yet challenging part of becoming a parent. Whether you prefer something timeless or trendy, the right baby name should reflect your values, culture, and aspirations for your child. In this blog, we’ll guide you through the world of baby names, covering style trends, cultural inspirations, practical tips, and more.
Plus, we’ll share a lesser-known but fascinating fact about how names might influence your baby’s health later in life.
Tumblr media
Why Baby Names Matter
A name is often a child’s first introduction to the world. It shapes how others perceive them and even how they see themselves. Multiple studies have shown that a person’s name can influence life outcomes, including career choices and social interactions. That’s why picking the right baby name is not just a personal decision, but one with long-term impact.
Modern Trends in Baby Names
Over the years, the way parents choose baby names has evolved. Here are the key trends in 2025:
1. Short and Sweet Names
Modern parents love names that are easy to spell, pronounce, and remember. Names like Ava, Leo, Mila, and Kai have become top choices.
2. Gender-Neutral Names
Names like Riley, Jordan, and River work for all genders and reflect a growing interest in inclusivity.
3. Nature-Inspired Names
Parents are turning to nature for inspiration—names like Willow, Ocean, and Phoenix are rising in popularity.
4. Vintage Revival
Old-fashioned names like Eleanor, Arthur, and Clara are making a big comeback in 2025.
Related high-volume keywords: trending baby names 2025, gender-neutral baby names, nature baby names, short baby names
Cultural Baby Names and Their Significance
Culture plays a significant role in name selection. Many parents look to their heritage for guidance or seek out names with cross-cultural appeal. Here are some examples:
Indian Baby Names: Names like Aarav, Aanya, and Vihaan are both meaningful and modern.
Arabic Baby Names: Popular picks include Zayn, Layla, and Aaliyah.
Hebrew Baby Names: Noah, Elijah, and Hannah remain timeless choices.
Japanese Baby Names: Names like Haruki, Akira, and Yui carry deep cultural roots.
Choosing a baby name based on culture allows parents to preserve identity while embracing modernity.
How to Pick the Perfect Baby Name
Here are essential steps to follow when choosing baby names:
1. Start with Meaning
Choose a name with a meaning that aligns with your hopes for your child. For example, “Aarav” means peaceful, and “Zara” means princess.
2. Check Pronunciation and Spelling
Select a name that's easy to pronounce and unlikely to be misspelled often, especially if you're living in a multilingual society.
3. Consider the Initials
Watch out for initials that might form awkward or unwanted words.
4. Think Long Term
Imagine your child as an adult with the name. Does it still feel appropriate and respectable?
5. Try Saying It Aloud
Say the full name out loud to check its rhythm, tone, and flow.
Unique Baby Names for 2025
Looking for something distinctive? Here are some unique baby names you may not have considered:
Girls: Elowen, Zephyra, Nyra, Solene
Boys: Calix, Ronan, Evren, Zev
Unisex: Indigo, Ren, Sky, Sora
Choosing a unique name can help your child stand out while still feeling timeless and meaningful.
New and Unique Fact:
Did you know? A study published in the journal Health Psychology found that people with uncommon names had slightly lower stress levels in adolescence. The researchers suggested that having a unique name may build resilience and individuality, leading to better emotional coping mechanisms.
This adds a fascinating dimension to choosing baby names—uniqueness might offer a psychological advantage!
Naming Twins or Siblings: Keep It Harmonious
Naming multiple children? Here’s how to keep their names complementary:
Rhyming Names: Mia and Nia, Jay and Ray
Alphabetical Patterns: Aanya and Aarav, Lily and Liam
Theme-Based: River and Skye (nature theme), Aria and Harmony (music theme)
Sibling names that match in style help build a sense of connection while maintaining individuality.
Mistakes to Avoid When Choosing Baby Names
Here are some common mistakes to watch out for:
Overcomplicating spelling – Unique spellings can cause confusion.
Ignoring initials – Always check what the full initials spell out.
Not considering cultural sensitivity – Research names that could carry unexpected meanings in other languages.
Over-relying on trends – What’s popular today might fade quickly.
Remember, the goal is to choose baby names that will age gracefully and remain meaningful over time.
Using Tools to Discover the Right Baby Name
In the digital age, you don’t need to guess. Use the following tools:
Baby name apps (e.g., BabyName, Nameberry, The Bump)
AI baby name generators
Social media polls and communities
Name meaning databases
These tools can help you filter by origin, meaning, popularity, syllable count, and even future trend predictions.

By considering culture, sound, meaning, and even psychology, you can confidently pick baby names that are both beautiful and impactful.

Bitcoin won back. The overview of cryptocurrency market the last week
.
All the large cryptocurrency capitalization went up over the past seven days, and the price of Bitcoin SV increased by 50%
Especially for "RBC Crypto” company Cindicator analyzed the situation on crypto market. Bitcoin could not overcome the resistance level of $ 11,000, but won back the fall of the previous week, two altcoins rose more than 80%, and the volume of trading with digital money reached $ 40 billion.
 Bitcoin pricing analysis
The past week was moderately positive for Bitcoin, the first cryptocurrency partially managed to win back the fall of the previous week, the worst since the beginning of the year. The closing price of BTC on Tuesday was $ 9,900, which corresponds to a weekly increase of 3.51% with an asset capitalization of $ 176 billion.
On Tuesday, July 21st, bitcoin prices were close to breaking the resistance at $11,000, but short positions maintained this level and prices fell back to $10,000. The current situation can be seen as a consolidation phase in which Bitcoin continues to trade within this range until vigorous movement occurs on one side.
In terms of technical analysis, the 100-day moving average formed a BTC support of $8,500, while the 100-period moving average was about $7,300. In the downtrend, both levels can serve as an important support for Bitcoin, while current resistance is at $11,000.
There were no major news that could have a major impact on the market this week, except the G7 National Finance Ministers meeting earlier this week, which mentioned the theme of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Restricting the risks associated with digital assets has been identified as a priority for ministers, and they are now more concerned with this topic given the ongoing discussions around Libra's Facebook. Discussions at this level clearly have a positive impact on cryptocurrencies, and most importantly, bitcoin is no longer seen as a phenomenon that only makes sense to marginalized people.
Compared with last week, Bitcoin's dominant position declined slightly, indicating that some altcoins can play back some of the losses before. However, compared to the trend of the past two years, the current level - 64.5% - is still unusually high.
The total market capitalization at the end of Tuesday was set at $273 billion, and this week's daily trading volume fell to less than $20 billion in the second half of the week, but on July 22 it set a record number - more than $40 billion.
 Market trend
On the Cindicator platform, thousands of financial analysts have evaluated the recent future of Bitcoin. One question raised by analysts is: "Up to July 23rd , 2009, is Bitcoin's closing price higher or lower than the closing price as of July 30th , 2009?"
This week's indicator reflects a bearish trend, though more positive than a week ago - 35.71%.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Analysis of the top 10 cryptocurrency
Tumblr media
Due to the recovery of Bitcoin, all the top 10 market capitalization projects showed a positive trend with an average weekly growth rate of +11% - over the first cryptocurrency.
Litecoin (LTC), Binance Coin (BNB), EOS (EOS) and Bitcoin SV (BSV) are the top ten leaders, each growing by more than 10%. Bitcoin SV showed particularly good results - compared to the previous week when the price of cryptocurrency fell sharply, increasing by more than 50%. In general, the recent months have become very unstable for BSVs, and investors are unable to determine at least some "reasonable prices" for such assets, which, together with possible manipulations, can cause violent fluctuations in both directions.
Tumblr media
The number of queries for Google search keywords "bitcoin", "blockchain" and "cryptocurrency" remained fairly constant throughout the week. This is most likely because Bitcoin's price is relatively stable, and new volatility is expected after the price has left the $9,000 to $11,000 corridor.
Tumblr media
 Top 5 growth leaders
Tumblr media
Growth leaders among the top 100 projects on market capitalization showed very good results, with an average value of + 63%, and none of the projects presented grew by less than 35% this week. The dynamics of cryptocurrency data turned out to be significantly better than the dynamics of the top 10, even taking into account the fact that Bitcoin SV entered both ratings.
This week's best indicator belongs to the Ren (REN) project, which increased the price by 100.8%, while the Japanese Content Token (JCT) ranked second with a score of 86.38%. Bitcoin SV (BSV), Lisk (LSK) and COIN (INO) ranked the top five growth leaders at + 50.22%, 44.14% and 36.09% respectively.
 Top 5 fall leaders
Tumblr media
Our drop charts this week include Metaverse (ETP), Clipper Coin (CCCX), ABBC Coin (ABBC), Energi (NRG) and Bitcoin Gold (BTG).
All of the above items lost more than 15%, which is a very bad result for the past positive week. However, no project has lost more than 25%, which is not very rare for the turbulent cryptocurrency market.

They decide not to call the boss or get help by the police because the risk is too high
Rating:

This isn’t one of my favorite Kid cases. It’s hard to follow when you’re lacking knowledge of Japanese mythology. Sometimes interesting, but sometimes pretty boring as well.

Abstract
Muscle damage is characterized by increased serum enzyme levels at blood serum level. The present study aimed to investigate the biochemical variability of the muscle damage indicators at blood serum level such as creatine kinase (CK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and myoglobin (MYB) of the players who had played on four successive days and been subjected to recovery protocol after the contest. 20 healthy men basketball players (/N 20:A 10+B 10) whose average age is A: 23,70 ± 2,80;B: 22,80 ± 2,94; average height is A: 181,30 ± 8,20; B: 178,95 ± 4,68; weight is A: 76,18 ± 11,31; B: 69,96 ± 7,68, exercise age is A: 11,00 ± 3,97; B: 8,20 ± 3,55 have been included in the study.Blood samples were taken on 4-day contest period and 3-day recovery phase that is 24-48-72hours following the contests. The subjects in Group A were applied 10-minute recovery protocol after the contest.
In this study, considerable increase has been observed in CK, LDH and MYB values in pre-contest and post-contest measurements. MYB and CK values couldn’t reach the peak point in the other contests that they had reached after the first contest. While CK values were not influenced by recovery, examining the speed and values of returning to the start level, it was noticed that it was effective on MYB and LDH values. In the analysis of recovery protocol, 10minute recovery protocol wasn’t found to be effective on MYB and CK values, but a significant effect was observed on LDH values measured 48-72hours later. In respect to our study, in which muscle damage responses, in accordance with the post-contest measurements, have reached to normal level in a shorter time in the group subjected to recovery protocol after the contest, it could be said that at the end of the basketball tournament there are muscle damage responses in players’ skeletal muscles and these responses come to normal level 24-48-72hours later.
Keywords: Creatine kinase; Lactate dehydrogenase; Myoglobin; Recovery
    Introduction
Basketball match can be thought as eccentric and slow-speed exercise when compared to high-speed ones in current muscle damage studies. The adaptation to eccentric exercise can be achieved without damaging the muscles [1].Recovery and reversible muscle damage effects, compression garments, cold-water dipping method, ice application, massage after match, ergogenic aids and peak performance are important components of the post-play activities today. Within the domain of recovery strategies, there is little knowledge relevant to studies on minimizing the muscle damage effects or clearing the present waste products. In literature researches, it is observed that intensively loaded eccentric loading protocols that enhance muscle damage are applied to most of the muscle damage recovery exercises[2].
There are a limited number of studies about post-match recovery stage [3,4].Recovery after exercise can be in form of absolute recreation or active recovery.Gentle exercises during the recovery phase after heavy exercises like jogging causes lactic acid such as (35-40 % Max Vo2) to be removed more quickly. This type of recovery is called recovery with exercise or active recovery. Cool-down exercises after the actual exercise is an example to that and have great contributions to removing the lactic acid [3].
Every sportsman is exposed to oxygen debt when he plays at maximal capacity during the contest and creates some amount of lactic acid. It is necessary to apply recovery protocol for the loadings during the contest or at least 10-minute Cool-down exercise in terms of restoring for the next trainings and contests. Cool-down after a high-speed exercise includes the movements the intensity of which decrease gradually to revert the blood circulation and body functions to the condition before the exercise. The restoration process soon after the load stimulation is an intensive one and it can be generally said that two third of restoration is completed within the corresponding time in which one third of recreation is completed[5].The present study,in view of these considerations, has been planned to investigate the effects of the basketball contests on successive days and the repeated movements in such intensive contests on muscle damage and recovery phase.
    Methods
After ethics committee approval,(Clinical Research with Turkish Republic Ministry of Health General Directorate of Medicine and Pharmacy No. and B-10-0-IEG-0-15-00-01 Issue complies with the decision of Non-Pharmacological Clinical Researches dated 17thSeptember 2010). Twenty healthy male volunteer basketball players attended in this study and divided into two groups as Group 1(A) and Group 2(B).The research was designed to last for 7 days in 2 sections.1st section is the tournament that includes 4 contests after and before which the values are measured. (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th days).2nd section is the recovery that consists of measuring the values in 24-48-72hours after the contests. (5th, 6th, 7th days).
The subjects involved in the research were informed not to take any drug one week before the research, not to use alcohol, not to do high-speed exercise except trainings, to inform any injuries and bleedings as these probable conditions may have effects on the analysis results. Twenty healthy male volunteer basketball players attended in this study and divided into two groups as Group 1(A) and Group 2(B).The first subject group was put to 10-minute recovery protocol after the contest. Recovery protocol included jog-trot and stretching exercises. Active rest is; 1-2minute active breathing, 30-60 seconds jogging, 3-5 minutes walking and finally stretching. Inorder to identify the variables in the hematological values of the subjects, venous blood samples were taken from the forearms 11 times. The blood samples were placed in two separate 10-20ml tubes with EDTA and immediately delivered to the laboratory.
Creatine kinase and Lactate dehydrogenase was measured using the method of Autoanalyzer Spectrophotometer with a device of Japanese brand Olympus AU 2700.Myoglobin was measured using the method of Edia (Electroc hemilumine scenceimmu noassay) with a device of Japanese brand Elecsys 2010.Hemogram was measured using the method of Flow Sitometer with a device of USA brand Bekman Coulter LH 750 Analyzer. Centrifuge operations were conducted with a device of German brand Rotanta 460.Unit: CK-U/L(Unit/litre), LDH-U/L, MYB-NG/ML(Nanogram/ Millilitre)Descriptive statistics was applied to the basketball players in the study. Two-factor mixedmodel ANOVAs, with repeated measures on time were used and t test were applied so as to compare the biochemical values before and after the contest. In the analysis of the research data, Windows XP based SPSS 13 statistics program was used(Figures 1-3).
Results
Statistical significance has been observed between contests and groups in terms of pre-contest and post-contest MYB values during the tournament (p<0, 01). In recovery period, there isn’t a statistically significant difference in the values measured 24- 48-72 hours later (Tables1-3).CK values were found statistically different in pre-contest and post-contest measurements. In recovery period, there hasn’t been a significant difference between the groups in terms of the values measured 24-48-72 hours following the tournament. LDH values have been found statistically different in inter-contests, pre-contest and postcontest measurements (p<0, 01). In recovery period, a significant difference has been observed between the groups in LDH values measured 24-48-72 later (p<0, 01) (Tables1-3).
Discussion
The homogeneity of the male basketball player groups in terms of age, height, weight and training age is of essential in respect to the analysis of the effects of the contest on biochemical parameters and the effects of the 10-minute recovery protocol after the contest which group A was applied through biochemical parameters.
In the studies in literature, skeleton muscle damage level is dependent upon the data obtained through the assessment of enzyme and blood values at serum blood level that reaches the extracellular level. The peak period of creatine kinase (CK) increased after exercise varies according to the type, volume and duration of exercise. A number of studies reveal that CK values reach the peak point after 1-5days after the exercise [6-11]have identified that CK values increase after long-term exercise and reach the peak point 24-48 hours later in their study. In a similar study by[1]. the same results have been identified[12]in their study with high density cycle ergometre have seen that serum CK values increase ten times soon after exercise and come close to the values before exercise 24hours later.
Various results have been achieved in different researches. Indicating that CK values reach the peak point 2-4 days after exercise, Smith and Miles(2000) stated that CK values reach the peak point 3-4days after leg resistant exercise [13]in their study on football players conducted measurements 18-20, 42-44hours later and pointed out that serum CK values reach the peak point in 22-24 hours[14]conducted 10-minute high density basketball stimulation exercise and measured CK values soon after exercise, 5-10-15minutes after exercise, 24-48-72-96hours after exercise. They concluded that CK values increased soon after exercise but came to normal level at the end of the 4th day. In similar studies,[6-10]the increase in total CK values implies occurrence of muscle damage. In view of these results, it appears that basketball contests affect CK blood parameters of the player, which shows skeletal muscle damage in players occurs during contest.
In reference to the measurements after contest, a significant statistical difference in CK values wasn’t observed between the control group and the group subjected to 10-minute recovery protocol (P>0,05).According to the data acquired, total CK values vary from subject to subject. As stated in literature, there is a judgement that CK values aren’t affected by recovery protocols.
These results support the similar studies in the same fields. In many studies, [9,15] LDH, AST, CK are intracellular cytoplasmic enzymes that turn to functionally related extracellular after cell death. Therefore, their existence as extracellular are always associated with cell death and tissue destruction. Thereby, it is used as diagnosis indicator of tissue destruction in infection or brain damage following cerebrovascular diseases in myocardium infarction and chronic liver failure in medicine [12]implemented exercise protocol with 20 different eccentric contractions onto non-dominant hand flexor muscles; carried out measurements before exercise, soon after exercise and 24-48-72-96hours later exercise; and concluded that LDH values increased soon after the exercise, reached the peak point in 24-48 hours and turned to pre-exercise values in 96hours . In another study by [16]. Plyometric exercise protocol with high density eccentric contractions was applied and the values were measured soon after exercise and 24-48-72hours later. It was found that LDH values starting to increase soon after exercise rose by about 100% 72hours later and the difference between the values measured 24 hours and 48-72hours later were stated to be statistically significant.[14]in their study that examined weight and muscle pain relations through 10-minute high density basketball technical exercises have put forward that LDH release that increase soon after exercise come to pre-exercise level 4 days later. Literature also presents similar results of LDH values in exercise-induced muscle damage studies,[13]Cool-down consists of movements whose intensity gradually decreases so that blood circulation and various body functions can turn back to the condition before exercise.
Cool-down exercises can be done in two ways; active or passive recreations. Passive recreation includes resting, sitting, lying or sleeping[3,17] have demonstrated that in comparison with passive recreation, 4-minute recovery protocol between repeated Wingate tests (28% of MAX VO2) enhance total work and the decline in capillary blood lactate of trained hockey players is more than that in sedentary [17,18]stated that of the recovery periods they have applied to different kinds, the most effective method is recovery protocol period.
These results support the similar studies in the field. According to [19]studies that are consistent with our findings, it has been indicated that soon after muscle damage myoglobin (MYB) Concentration reaches the peak point before CK values. That the pre-contest MYB values are lower than half-time and post-contest values implies that muscle damage has notably increased. However, it is informed that MYB values of football players come to resting values 24-48-72hours after contest [12] in the exercise protocol with high density eccentric contractions carried out at cycle ergometer, have come to the conclusion that 53 ± 22,1myoglobin values come to 554,5 ± 25,4 soon after exercise. Showing parallelism with our study, 49, 7 ± 12, 4 MYB values measured 24 hours after exercise turn to their preexercise level [20]carried out one-hour weight training exercise protocol including 50 subjects. The values were measured soon after exercise, during the following 7 days, 10th and 12th days. Similar results to those of our study were obtained. In literature, MYB measurements support our study as well.
The exercise protocols carried out in these studies are many repeated studies including high density muscle contractions. The results of our study could be assessed as an explanatory factor for the measurement values not being as high as those in similar studies, [21-23] have found the difference of fall rate of muscle damage indicators between the group applied stretching is than the other group recovery protocols. Besides, recovery times in various lengths were reported in the studies analyzing energy outcomes, lactic acid values and active and passive recovery processes. Within these studies, it is revealed that the groups put to active recovery experience a more rapid recovery process compared to the other groups [24].According to these results, basketball contests affect MYB blood parameters of the player. MYB values at blood serum level measure before and after contest refer to a considerable difference between the groups (p<0, 05) the literature studies on the adaptation process of the trained players to the training support our findings. Increasing MYB values in blood during exercise correspondent with the relation of recovery process with loading intensity, muscle contractions, the energy consumed, oxygen carriage required at cellular level and oxygen gap were found to be significantly different from the values of the subjects put to 10-minute recovery protocol after exercise. No important difference was recorded between the groups in terms of the values measured 24-48-72 hours after exercise during the recovery period, which means that the results are similar in both of the groups (p>0,05). In literature these studies there is evidence that MYB values start to rise soon after exercise and reach the peak level in the first 1-3hours. Moreover, MYB values at blood serum level measured 24hours after exercise came close to pre-exercise level in bothof the groups. In the group applied 10-minute recovery protocol, recovery values were found statistically significant (p<0, 05) [25,26] concluded that passive recreation results in slowly progressing recovery values and recovery protocol results in more rapid recovery curve.
Our study puts forward that MYB values that increase at the beginning of exercise come to pre-exercise level 24 hours after exercise. Although MYB values of Group A were found to be higher than those of Group B, in respect to recovery speed, it can be seen that a more rapid recovery takes place in the group applied recovery protocol.
    Conclusion
Consequently, recent studies demonstrate that exercise causes muscle damage at micro level and the type and size of exercise is determinant in the amount of damage. Muscle damage is closely associated with race, gender, age and training condition. It has been revealed that the degree of damage varies from person to person, sometimes high sometimes low amount of damage, depend upon training level of the players and sporting experiences. It has also been indicated that muscle damage responses of players at blood serum level are at lower value and damage responses come to normal level within shorter time.
In respect to the present study, it can be said that there are muscle damage responses in the skeletal muscles of the basketball players at the end of the 4-day basketball tournament and these responses come to normal levels 24-48-72hours later. Besides, it has been revealed that muscle damage responses applied 10-minute recovery protocol after contest reach normal values more rapidly in comparison with the other group. As a result of this study it has been observed that the difference of LDH blood parameter is significant. In accordance with these results, basketball contests are influential on the LDH blood parameters of the player. LDH measurements indicate that the difference in recovery time is assessed as significant between the group applied 10-minute recovery protocol after contest and the one applied passive recreation.

[170728 Kstyle] B.A.P, Album “UNLIMITED” after 1 year & 3 months… Keywords and memories around the 13 tracks
Tumblr media
B.A.P have released their album “UNLIMITED” in Japan on June 28 after approximately 1 year and 3 months. From familiar sounds to new pieces like “WAKE ME UP”, as well as Jongup and Daehyun’s solo songs, it’s constructed with 13 varied tracks.
At Kstyle, we asked them about key words and memories surrounding the 13 songs that are included on the album, and followed their ‘UNLIMITED’ musicality and charms.
“UNLIMITED”
YG: This will be our second album in Japan. I think it’s a work that can show the diversity of B.A.P’s music. Furthermore, the title “UNLIMITED” means that there is no limit to B.A.P’s music.
1. FREAKY SOUND
――There are many meanings to the word “FREAKY”, so which one does this song refer to? DH: That’s true, I think the interpretation of FREAKY will differ depending on who you’re asking, but I think it’s fine as long as the person listening enjoys it with how they understand it as. “FREAKY SOUND” has a different image to what B.A.P has shown till now; it’s a song that fun and yet has a unique atmosphere, so I think the fans will come to like this new feel.
――There are the lyrics “an insane party”, have the B.A.P members had an insane party before? DH: We don’t have parties, but we often gather together and play around, so I guess you could call that a party in our circumstance. Right, Jongup? JU: Yes, that’s right. DH: Jongup likes parties. He usually drinks when we gather and talks away, that sort of a feel. He doesn’t drink at home, so we gather up somewhere outdoors.
――There’s also the phrase “super crazy” in the lyrics, is there a member who you think is crazy? JU: Hmmm, it’s hard to find something to use as a standard….. (laughs), but I think it’s Youngjae. Youngjae lives very properly. DH: You’re making it sound as if we don’t live properly (laughs). JU: But Youngjae really lives exemplarily, so on the reverse I think that’s crazy. I’m the opposite. ZL: In a good way I think Jongup is super crazy. Because he’s able to do anything very well.
2. SKYDIVE
――The Korean version of this song had a MV over 10 minutes long which gave a lasting impression, please tell us again what the story was about. DH: We were comrades of the same organisation, but there was a traitor within us. That traitor kidnapped my girlfriend and gave me instructions like to kill the other members. I carry out those missions. After that, there’s a scene where our group meet with the police and [we realise] Jongup is the traitor who joined forces with the police. JU: I’m ‘super crazy’ (laughs). ALL: (laughs) YJ: I die because of Jongup (laughs) DH: There’s a scene of Youngjae being shot by Jongup.
――It’s created just like a “Noir film’. HC: You’re right. If there’s the chance, I’d like to act in one of those movies. I think we’ll be able to act well if we get an offer!
3. NOW (Jongup Solo)
――Continuing on, “NOW” is Jongup’s solo song isn’t it. JU: This was a song that I created with my friend and released in Korea, which was then translated into Japanese. It’s the first time for my own song to be included in a Japanese album, and since I love Japanese animes and songs, I think it’s a great honour and a good experience.
――You released a project album with Daehyun in Korea and had solo promotions, how was that? JU: I wanted to perform for the fans sake, so I’m happy if they watched over it warmly. It was a new challenge for me too, and I want to continue showing my cool side to everyone.
4. WAKE ME UP
――You came back as a ‘complete unity with 6’ with this song, and also had activities in Japan after a long time as 6 in April. How was going around Japan after a while as 6? YG: Promoting with all 6 members was a fun and precious time. The flying kisses event was fun too.
――The “flying kisses event” is a very rare one, how did it feel to actually experience it? DH: It was probably the first time ever for us. YJ: It was fun! HC: The fans looked embarrassed didn’t they. DH: Isn’t that because the one who did [the flying kiss] it was embarrassed? (laughs) HC: Is that so? I did my flying kisses like a pro (laughs) DH: They might’ve been embarrassed because you did it so professionally (laughs). We were all separated so I don’t know how the other fans reacted, but all my fans were very happy.
5. FIRE FLAME
――What sort of song is this? DH: Along with “FREAKY SOUND”, I view this song as one that we challenged to show a new side to B.A.P. We challenged it by incorporating popular music styles of that time and since it’s a very refined song, I hope everyone will like it.
――It sounded like a mix of EDM and hiphop, something that I felt was a rare tune for B.A.P. DH: Hmm, I wonder~ The producer is sitting right here (laughs) (looks at Yongguk) YG: It’s not really EDM. I think it’s a song that has a more lounge music feel.
6. BE HAPPY
――This song has a different image to other B.A.P tracks and is an upbeat party tune with a funky element. YG: Yes, I wanted to create a song that made one happy so I composed this.
――How did the members feel when they first heard it? HC: Very happy, and I felt powerful vibes. ZL: We hadn’t done any funky songs like this before so I liked it, and I was able to sing it happily. DH: I remember that we had a lot of fun when we were recording it too. HC: That’s right, we finished the recording whilst enjoying ourselves.
――Going with the title “BE HAPPY”, what moments do you feel happy at? YJ: I honestly feel happy when I sing “BE HAPPY” on stage.   DH: That’s right, it’s very fun to sing this song so it feels like we’re playing around together [on stage]. HC: When I wake up, and see that I can still sleep a bit more. JU: When I look at B.A.P’s dreams (thinking about our future) with all 6 of us. ALL: Ohh~ that’s right! DH: Also the other day, it was my birthday and I was happy when the members celebrated it with me. Himchan treated me to drinks. We drank it at the hotel.
7. GOOD TIME
――What’s the 7th track “GOOD TIME” like? DH: Just like the title, it’s a ‘good time’. YJ: That doesn’t explain anything (laughs) ALL: (laughs) DH: When I listened to it, I felt at ease and I think it’s a healing song.
――When did you feel happy lately? DH: I’m currently preparing for the musical “Napoleon”. It’s my first time to challenge a musical, but I’m enjoying myself preparing for it, so I hope many of you come to watch! ZL: Right now I’m addicted to dramas. It’s really been a while since I’ve watched something straight from the first episode. I’m watching a drama called “Fight for My Way”. It’s not only interesting, I’ve fallen for the charms of the characters in the show and I’m enviously thinking that I’d like to try acting this sort of role whilst watching. The theme of the whole drama, and not only Park Seojoon’s character is very attractive. I watched it since it was popular, and got addicted straight away.
8. FEEL SO GOOD
――The 8th track is “FEEL SO GOOD” which you had previously released as a single. What sort of times do you feel hyped up? YG: Exactly right now (laughs) DH: For me I guess it’s when I finish all my schedules and go home to sleep.
――Do you get excited when you drink too? HC: That’s right, but I also have serious conversations when I drink, so I drink quietly during those times. It [how I am] depends on what we’re talking about at that time. YJ: He gets really high when it’s a fun topic.
――Is there a member who has a habit of acting a certain way after they drink? HC: Hmmm, I don’t think there are any drinking habits in particular. DH: You do have some don’t you Himchan. He’ll end up paying the bill. (laughs) HC: I don’t know why I end up doing that though (laughs). I really have to fix this habit (laughs).
9. I GUESS I NEED U
――In this song too, there’s the word “alcohol” at the very beginning of the lyrics, who’s the strongest drinker between the members? ALL: *all look at YG* HC: But in terms of volume, Jongup drinks a bit too doesn’t he? JU: It’s “unlimited” (laughs) ALL: (laughs) DH: But he gets drunk though HC: He gets drunk but he stays till the end. Lately I leave midway because it gets tough (laughs) DH: The ones who can drink are Jongup and Yongguk hyung, but Yongguk hyung doesn’t get drunk. I’ve never seen him drunk. HC: You’d probably never know even if he was drunk. YJ: Though in my mind, I think Yongguk hyung is drunk when he says “I’m not drunk” (laughs). ALL: (laughs) YJ: Yongguk hyung doesn’t say if he’s drunk or if he’s not drunk, but I feel like if people around him ask “are you drunk?”, he’ll take no notice when he’s sober, and deny with “I’m not drunk” when is a little drunk. (laughs) YG: (bitter smile) ALL: (laughs) DH: But he doesn’t change much from usual. YJ: Everyone else changes when they’re drunk. HC: Jongup’s aegyo increases. YJ: Yes, it makes me want to hit him (laughs). ALL: (laughs) JU: I don’t really know [remember] though (laughs) YJ: I’m scared of drunk Jongup. DH: You’re scared even though he has more aegyo? YJ: Yeah, it’s different from usual so it’s scary (laughs). He starts with “hehe”, then “hehe, hyung do you want to drink some? Hehe”. That’s how he talks and that’s scary (laughs) ALL: (laughs)
10. 1004
――I think the 10th track “1004” is a song with many memories for everyone. HC: We won first place with this song on music shows. I think it was on “SHOW CHAMPION”. And then we ordered Korean food on that day, but it tasted really bad (laughs). I suddenly remembered that just then (laughs). ALL: (laughs) YJ: Was that so, I don’t remember (laughs). We were invited to award shows for this song too. When we won first place, I don’t think I was able to process that properly and feel the joy. Looking back at footage from then, it was the first time for us to win first place after debuting for 2 years, and yet I was expressionless, and not very happy looking. I think it was because it didn’t feel real. It’s a bit of a shame looking at that now.
――That’s from 3 years ago now. Comparing now to then, what are things that you think have changed? ZL: Back then I was 19 years old, and now I’m 22 years old. Although it was only 1 year to go from my teens to my 20s, I think it was a time full with change. That’s why I think I’ve matured compared to then. YJ: I’ve learnt a lot and I think I’ve changed how I think about things too.
11. YOU (Daehyun solo)
――The 11th track is Daehyun’s solo song “YOU”. I heard it was a song prepared for the Japanese fans. DH: When I made this song, I thought about how I would show it to the fans. We also had a Japanese concert upcoming during that period. I love Japanese ballads and although it’ll be a first, I decided to deliver this song in Japanese to the Japanese fans. Then I performed it in the concert, and received a good response from the fans, and hence we came to including this song in the album as well. The members also told me “it’s a good song” when I performed it at the concert.
――Is there a particular Japanese ballad that you like? DH: Firstly I really like Nakashima Mika’s “Yuki no Hana” which was remade in Korea. Other than that, I often listen to ballads mainly by female singers like Namie Amuro.
12. WITH YOU
――I believe this is an indispensable song during concerts. YJ: That’s right. It’s a song that represents our feelings when we’re with our fans. It’s a song that both we and our fans can relate to. HC: It’s our fan song. To us, and to the fans, it’s a song that gives us energy, and so it’s become a song that must be performed and can’t be missed from concerts.
13. FLY HIGH
――The last track is “FLY HIGH”. Just like the title, all of you have been flying around the world on the world tour. Have there been any memorable countries? JU: Paris was memorable for me. We had some free time in Paris and I was able to do some shopping and eat good food so it was fun. YJ: I ate risotto, lobster, steak and such with Yongguk hyung. We thought it was a nice restaurant and went inside, but it really was a great restaurant. DH: Talking about concerts, it’s hard to choose one. The cheering style and other things differ depending on the country, but in the end, the fact that they’re supporting us remains the same and all of that is meaningful to us, and I’m very grateful to everyone. We’re into our 6th year now and it’s been a long time, and on top of that our hiatus was long too. That’s why I thought fans wouldn’t come to see us like they have, but honestly, so many fans came to our concert, and that alone was very satisfying.
―― Now finally, how “FLY HIGH” [high do you want to fly] in the future? YG: There’s no concrete goal, and like this album title, I’d like to be limitless and be able to go anywhere. ALL: Ohh~! (claps)

[GOLDEN KAMUY] Translation: Interview with Noda Satoru & Ookuma Hakkou, January 2016
Corrections and suggestions are welcome! Translations were originally posted on my Twitter account and privatter.
Original interview
Q: Golden Kamuy was voted number two by male readers in “Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2016”. First of all, please tell us your honest feeling about it.
Noda: It’s awful. Position no. 2 is for the loser.
Q: Too bad, yeah.
Noda: No-one will remember you if you’re not number 1. Can you name the opponents when (judoka) Nomura (Tadahiro) won the Olympics gold three times in a row?
Q: No, I can’t immediately recall.
Noda: It’s like that.
Q: When Golden Kamuy’s first volume was released, it was also placed second in March 2015’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Ranking as voted by men.
Noda: Did it feel great when Nomura got silver medal? It’s like that.
Q: Despite using judo as an analogy, thank you for the easy-to-understand explanation. By the way, in both rankings, the number one spot went to…
Noda: Unforgivable Dungeon Meshi.
Q: How was the response at the beginning of the serialization? Managing editor (ME, Ookuma Hakkou): Since the beginning of serialization, Golden Kamuy has thankfully always got good results in polls, so I was confident that “it could sell”. That’s why, although I had felt just wanting to publish volume 1 quick, we confidently published (the first two volumes) in two consecutive months. (Golden Kamuy vol 1 was published in February 2015, vol 2 was in March 2015. – ty.) Q: It’s indeed an unusual way of releasing comic books. ME: There are various benefits of releasing comic books in two consecutive months. First, for the readers, reading the next volume while interest is still high spares them the anxiety of waiting, right. If the next volume is going to be published next month, book sellers will put it on display without returning the previous volume to the publisher. If the first volume sells more than expected and has to be urgently reprinted, the reprints of the previous volume can be put along with the next volume at the book store. Q: In terms of sales, there are quite a lot of benefits. However, if you are not sure about being able to sell it, it’s something that’s hard to do, isn’t it. ME: Regarding Golden Kamuy, I was… sure, but still, when I got the request for reprint, I fell on my knees out of joy and relief (laughs)   Q: How about you, Noda-sensei? How did you react to the responses at the beginning of the serialization? Noda: I thought my editor told me the results, but I don’t remember the contents. I only remember drawing while thinking with conviction “There is no way it doesn’t sell!” Q: I see. Are you worried about readers’ reaction? Noda: Of course I want to know. I can’t check the Internet too often, but I feel happy if I receive fanletters. Nowadays, handwriting a letter takes great effort. The letter being handwritten itself already conveys the writer’s feelings.   Q: Where did you get inspiration for Golden Kamuy? My great grandfather went to the Russo-Japanese war and took part in the 203-Meter Hill Battle as a tondenhei. (Tondenhei were soldiers in the Meiji era sent to Hokkaido to guard & develop the island - ty.) I wanted to make a manga of his story when I got the chance. Then after my previous work, Supinamarada!, ended, my managing editor suggested “How about making a manga about hunting set in Hokkaido?”Then I thought I’d make the protagonist a young man who’s just returned from the Russo-Japanese war. Q: So at first you began planning a manga about hunting? Noda: That’s right. But if it’s only about hunting, I would quickly run out of materials, so I decided to throw in various other elements. Q: I think that the various elements that are linked intricately is what makes this work distinctive. Noda: The Ainu, the legend of hidden gold, Hijikata Toshizou, the jailbreak king.. even the incident with brown bear, are truly parts of Hokkaido’s history. I picked up the elements that I think interesting from all those things about Hokkaido. Q: (asking the editor) When Noda-sensei sent you the idea, plot, and such, what was your impression? ME: “This is it!” Before that, I’ve been exchanging a lot of ideas with Noda-sensei. Each of them was interesting. But the moment I read the draft of this work, I felt like I could hear the sound ‘click’!
Q: The Ainu culture is among the various elements present in Golden Kamuy. Up until now, there were so few manga that portray the Ainu culture. Why did you choose this subject? Noda: Actually until now there are so few of them. Does it not feel fresh for the readers? I think that since it is a delicate subject, people recoil from it. It brings along dark images of prosecution, discrimination, and such. But I was convinced that if I make an Ainu-themed manga that is cheerful and interesting, it can become popular. Even the Ainu people whom I met to gather data told me, “Please do not portray miserable Ainu people anymore. Please draw strong Ainu people.” Q: Speaking of that, how was the decision by the editorial team taken? Especially because lately there is a tendency of high demand for political correctness. ME: The serialization meeting of the editorial team agreed on it unanimously. Thankfully, the editorial team is frank about whether something is interesting or not. However, since neither the editorial team nor our company had much experience and knowledge about the theme, they told us “You need to be prepared well”. As for Noda-sensei, during the meeting when he presented the material, he said “I’m prepared”, so there was no problem. Noda: Although it’s a delicate subject, I think any trouble that arises from it is not caused by malice, but because of ignorance. That’s why I make this manga while researching and asking experts as much as possible. In addition, I think it’s okay to draw various Ainu people: strong ones, sly ones. Because they too are human. Q: How’s the reaction to that? Noda: I think the Ainu people understand my seriousness about this. I’m glad that I receive a lot of nice responses from the parties concerned with the Ainu.
Q: The title is made up of an English word (Golden) and an Ainu word (Kamuy). How did you decide on the title? Noda: ‘Golden’ means the colour of gold. In another word, shit. Q: Huh?? Noda: The Ainu believe gods (kamuy) exist in everything, so there must be kamuy in shit too. I lied. Q: Please. (laughs) Noda: Even until now my father cannot name the title of my previous work, Supinamarada! correctly. No matter how often I correct him, he always calls it ‘Marada’. “This is bad,” I thought. I must come up with a title that can stick to the memory fast. Q: "Golden Kamuy" is indeed easy to remember. Noda: Still, there are people who say it’s uncool. But I think the content would sweep away any such impression. “Robocop”… Is there any movie fan that call this title uncool? It’s like that. Q: I see. Hinna Hinna Ainu Dishes Q: Golden Kamuy is quite full of well-drawn food and cooking scenes. Noda: As I said earlier, at the initial stage of the concept, the keyword was ‘hunting’. I think ‘hunting’ includes everything from catching an animal and eating the meat, using the fur and bone to make daily goods, to selling the goods to get money. So depiction of food was naturally part of it. Q: I see. Since I understand how rich Ainu culture is, personally I’m always looking forward to scenes of Asirpa cooking. Noda: When I was researching, I found that Ainu’s food culture was so interesting it can’t be ignored. The utensils, the designs are so nice, I really wanted to draw them in details. Q: Many readers, when they see cooking scenes in Golden Kamuy, think “The food looks delicious!” Noda: I think that’s the effect of the repeated “citatap”. It makes you want to try saying simple Ainu words like ‘hinna’ or ‘osoma’, right… Q: “Osoma”… That word is popular. Noda: It would be great if it’s chosen as ‘Buzzword of the Year’. I want to be able to say “Eat that shit!” Q: Since I don’t have knowledge about Ainu food, I would like to ask you a question. At every opportunity, Asirpa tells Sugimoto and Shiraishi to eat animal brains, but is it common in Ainu culture? Noda: What do you mean? Q: In other words, I wonder if Asirpa does that to know their reactions, just like a Japanese asking a foreign tourist to eat natto? Noda: Oh no, according to the notes of Ainu women born in the Meiji era, they really ate the brains of any animal they caught, with a sprinkle of salt. The Ainu are not the only hunters that eat the brains of deer and other animals. Q: Ah, so it’s a common eating habit. Noda: I have also been pushed to eat the brains of a badger, it was delicious. It was hinna. That’s why I think Asirpa tells Sugimoto and Shiraishi to eat it because she truly thinks it’s delicious. Q: So sensei has really eaten it.. Noda: When we went to Hokkaido for collecting data, we picked newly sprouting pine leaves, and the editor, the cameraman, and I put them into our mouths, and the three of us spat them out at the same time. Q: Oh, the same reaction as in Book 3, Chapter 22! By the way, of the foods and animals you’ve drawn so far in Golden Kamuy, which ones are your favourite? Noda: Maybe the otter head. Since I have no data about how the cooked head looks like, I just drew it out of imagination while looking at an otter skull. But a chef specializing in game animals praised me “You drew it well”. As for animals that I like, I think it’s the brown bear. In Golden Kamuy, it’s become a useful summon beast. By the way I have a rug made of the fur of a big brown bear … Q: What! Noda: Sometimes I put it over my head and re-create the entrance scene of Clara’s grandmother. Alone. (Noda was referring to a scene from Heidi anime below)
Q: Alone! ---End of this article. The continuation of the interview was published in another article. ---
