As odd as the man is, he just made her job a whole lot easier, killing people who'd bothered her or as he liked to call it 'setting up some accidents'. She is far from appalled by the idea of killing, afterall, she does it herself. The only thing that'd make her shocked in the bad way would be if it involved someone she cared for, then she wouldn't hesitate to pop a bullet into his head but... he knows better than to do that. Than to do something that'd upset her like that.

Finally finished this comic related to the new Godzilla 2024 design. Himari and Mothra love the pink dorsals, but Anon is scared of Godzilla’s new look.

I personally think the new design is fine. If I had to complain about one thing it would be the skinnier lower body. My favorite design is still 2019/2021 and I head cannon it as the average look of a fully mature Gojira while the 2024 design is just a fluke evolution that happened due to whatever energy Godzilla absorbed.

I'm trying to remember back to when PriChan first started and I thought nothing made sense. But man, every episode of AiPri I just have more and more questions.

I really liked Sakura up until this episode but IDK now. Before she seemed focused on encouraging Himari but in this episode she seemed to only care about herself?

Ruby Lazuli's song was pretty good but is it just me or did the CG take a noticeable drop in quality? I mean... I know other people were already complaining about it, but this was the first episode I was like OOOOH that's bad............. it reminded me of like season one Aikatsu just with better shading.

Oh yeah and Chii do I even need to keep saying it.

Then Himari ruined everything for everyone the end.

himitsu no aipri episode 1 (a week late)

it's been so long since I've written about a priseries (or any other idol) show... I'm realizing that I legit didn't think I'd ever get the chance again. I got tired of doing it before because I felt like I was either complaining too much (planet) or just happy abt everything that was happening (primagi) and thus had nothing interesting to say either way, but ever since watching aipri on sunday I've been looking forward to this... I think I'm just happy about new idol anime content after such a long drought tbh but it's something good that aipri has already brought us, no matter what you or I think of anything else about it.

I missed the first 5 minutes bc I was reading bad fanfiction in bed to wake up (nigh daily routine) and totally forgot abt aipri... then I did remember and had to sprint to my computer, but the stream kept stopping so I missed some critical stuff throughout. I liked the ep okay, but maybe actually seeing all of it will improve it?

ohhh ok it starts off with those cute lemon coords in the op. actually this does help, those coords are easily my favs that I've seen in aipri so far. esp Mitsuki's blue one is sooo cute... I am saying this as a person that buys every single blue gingham item of clothing I come across though haha. I will say that the coord & dance totally don't match the sort of sweeping fairytale (just mistyped that as dairytale. hm) majesty that the bgm and voiceover is going for, but...

oh, I didn't know that Mitsuki had a snippet of performance in here. I've seen it in gameplay videos already, I like it ok---wow, it's already over.

the way Mitsuki is pausing for her viewers to answer is just like shows for preschoolers... they're really going after that age group, huh. (do actual streamers do stuff like that....?)

that is the ugliest anime dog I've ever seen, hands down, but Hiiro is cute. I'm sure she's well on her way to being the Non or whoever the prichan little sister was of aipri, in terms of popularity.

I do think it is very, very interesting that in this pretty series anime which is aimed at perhaps the youngest audience yet, they have put the mc in a dorm, away from her family. weird. actually I am for the first time realizing exactly how many anime have schools with dorms. you'd think japan is overflowing w boarding schools but idk of a single one lmao...

the first time I watched this my internet cut out just as Mitsuki's face was approaching Himari's. I knew what she was doing bc of the comic in the aipri fanbook, but still it was like, oh! looks like it's gonna be another totally straight pretty series show!

oh man, the op. the song itself is cute and catchy, but this vtuber's voice is just too much, and it gets more too much as the song goes on. I get the appeal of her being a "real-life aipri", and presumably she's popular so her fans might be drawn to watch, but I hope she doesn't sing the next op too..... oh you know what would be kind of cool is if every op was sung by a different vtuber. that way if one sucked we wouldn't have to hear them again, and they'd showcase a lot of different people.

Meganee is especially exceptionally cute in her op cameo!!!

I like Chii's voice a lot, and her passion regarding aipri, but on the list of things I'm finding myself saying "oh. shame :( " about is her unfortunate hairstyle. also speaking of things that remind me of other things, her name Chii Mamiya sounds like "chi mamire" (blood-soaked) or "chi mame" (blood blister). surely I am not the only Japanese understander who hears this.

Yusa Kouji-sensei has by far my fav character design in this show. he is officially my favorite aipri.

wow, it's the classic post-covid tv broadcast opening ceremony... a chillingly real element in this fantasy rich kid school. irl this is the first year since covid we've had in-person opening ceremonies in many schools, it's a shame they don't get to at paradise academy yet lmao

P.O.P.P.Y is a cute enough song. it's just barely on the listenable side of the line for me, but I do think it's a great match for what aipri is going for. also that is definitely a dance that was made for preschoolers to imitate.

buzzalyume... idk if anyone is aware or not, but buzz is a word that's in really common use regarding social media in japan atm. like you would say "that's buzzing" (literally I mean, figuratively it's more like "that's all the buzz" like the english use of the word) about something that's all over your timeline or whatever. so it's not totally out of left field for them to choose that word in particular, but it doesn't mean that it sounds any less forced, that's for sure!!

...finally, I watched it all. whew. I have to say, I was not wowed by it! but it was fine. it's far better than having no pretty series at all. I keep thinking "I'll put off my opinion till I know more about it" about aipri and I'm tempted to say it again now--in this episode we barely met the main two characters in favor of worldbuilding. it kind of makes sense as the first ep of a little kid show, but will the rest of the show stay at this same level of character depth? it's way too early to say. but for me, that's what'll determine how much I like it.

scattered thoughts on kirapika

this has taken me way longer than it should've tbh, i have 4 different essay drafts in my docs but none of them felt satisfactory. in the end it's probably better to make a list anyways, because there isn't really an overarching through line to any of these

putting this under a read more because it's Long. there's going to be a (much shorter, hopefully) part 2 because i hit the character limit oops

fair warning that there's going to be a lot of complaining about ciel (i don't hate her i swear i just have beef with how her character's framed in the show)

i think the most frustrating thing about their arc is the wasted potential. like they're both really great characters, there's some really great setup, and the series initially takes the angle that the conflict isn't completely black and white. and then 23 happens and rio gets kicked out of the narrative and the writers decide that actually no, ciel can't do anything wrong in her life ever because she's their precious golden child

i've said it before and i'll say it again: the coma was literally the worst decision the show could've made, because it robbed rio of basically all of his character development and it left ciel floundering around without anything to do. like genuinely when watching her episodes during the coma era i was sometimes like "...what is her arc here supposed to be again? because it really just kinda feels like she's fucking around" and it doesn't help that the writers were still on their Ciel is Morally Right in All Situations kick so any conflicts she got into were kinda boring, tbh? this usually isn't an issue for me in precure except this is a season where characters *do* fuck up (aoi, himari, yukari all had episodes where they fucked up/weren't totally in the right/did some morally gray [for precure] things in this same stretch!) so it makes ciel stick out like a sore thumb (i am still salty about 34 robbing me of an actual disagreement between ciel and yukari)

i think i mentioned it in wv 7's author's notes but episode 41 is kind of a disappointment for me. i thought the premise sounded fun (rio gets framed because of an evil clone! there's so much fun you can have with that!) but the actual execution kinda flops. we barely get any evil clone shenanigans, first of all, but my bigger issue is with the kirapika dynamic and conflict in the episode. i think it drags both of their characters down.

in 41, ciel suddenly regresses and starts being kind of an ass to her brother again, but the problem is that... she doesn't really start doing this until *after* the emotional conflict is supposedly resolved? at some point she goes "and i nearly messed it all up again" and i was like Girl. What Have You Done Up To This Point. like she's literally done *nothing*, hasn't said anything hurtful - the "worst" she's done is telling her brother that she'll go with him if he leaves, and then backtracking in private (the backtracking does feed into another issue i have, but in isolation there's nothing wrong with it! i do think it's perfectly reasonable to not want to uproot your entire life!). the actual regression comes when they're on the bridge, when ciel tells rio that they both made cure parfait

the cure parfait line is genuinely cruel. pov you are rio kuroki, you just got out of a 4 month coma 3 days ago, you got cool powers for 15 minutes but then got beat up super badly and lost them almost immediately after *and* were told you'd never be a precure (a dream that you've tried and tried to achieve but nothing ever seems to work) and then here's your sister on the bridge telling you that you both made *her* a precure and it was a super cool and awesome event when all you got out of it was that four month coma. if i was rio i would've lost my shit then and there

the line just feels so ooc for ciel to be saying at the EMOTIONAL CLIMAX??? THIS IS THE EMOTIONAL CRUX OF THE EPISODE. if it was a line that had happened early on and caused the conflict i'd be more forgiving but it *isn't* and that's why it fails! at this point she's supposed to have learned that disregarding others' feelings and thinking only about what's good for herself hurts others!

also rio once again takes the blame for everything, just like he did in 23. why is rio constantly always the bad guy in the conflict (even though the show pushed a "they both did things wrong" angle at the start) it makes their relationship feel really lopsided

their relationship just feels really lopsided overall, tbh. i think part of the problem is that we never really get any positive interactions between them in the series - we get the flashback with the waffles, and then there's that brief moment when rio comes back in 40, and ciel complimenting rio in the christmas episode but that's barely enough to go on when most of their major interactions in the present timeline are them fighting with one another. the show wants me to think that kirapika are the Best Siblings Ever but doesn't really do the work to actually *show* it, which makes it feel hollow. where are the sibling shenanigans, toei. where are the moments where they share a single brain cell. i just want kirapika sibling fluff, dammit!

part of this lopsided feeling also comes from how it feels like rio would move heaven and earth for ciel (he outright sacrifices his life. if it wasn't for luimere he'd be dead, and he had no way of knowing lumiere would intervene) but i don't get that same vibe from ciel even though the show tries acting like she would. shit happens and she's like "oh no! anyways". even a large part of her angstfest in 23 is more about her thinking that she's thrown away her chance of being a precure (it's literally one of the first things she says after julio's purified. not really a great look tbh).

lopsided 3: ciel's feelings are always seen as more valid over rio's. it's especially frustrating when rio actually does have a point (see 22-23)

honestly overall it just feels like the writers had something against rio. genuinely what the fuck did he do to them to make them toss him around like that

ciel's angstfest in 23 is really funny to me it's literally the equivalent of when you slightly mess up so you turn your discord pfp and banner all black and change your username to "gone" and claim you're never going to log on again but you're back 2 days later. i would love it if she was the one who actually broke herself out of it instead of rio and ichika having to do all the emotional labor

just... let ciel have flaws! we're shown a ciel with flaws in her introductory arc! and it's amazing! but then after 23 they all disappear and on the rare occasions where they come back they're never treated as something for her to work on, they're just there, or they're unintentional on the part of the writers. and a character without flaws obviously isn't unheard of for precure but in a season that takes great pains to remind you that its main cures are all very flawed people it feels a little jarring to have ciel never learning anything because she was in the right all along

i don't think rio becoming ciel's satellite post-coma would've annoyed me as much if we hadn't been given a taste of rio as an actual defined character during the julio arc. like once he comes back he only exists around ciel and it's a bummer because i really liked his dynamics with ichika, yukari, bibury, etc and i wanted to see more (we do get that one riobib scene in 41 but it's like 30 seconds). pretty much all of his dreams and aspirations evaporate, too, most notably The Precure One

rio's dream to become a precure never being brought up after 23 (except to be mocked by grave) is so, so jarring when it was originally a huge part of his character. 41 tries to act like he only became julio because he wasn't as good at sweets as ciel and it's like... no? wanting to become a precure was a big part of that too? sometimes i feel like 41 is an episode from some alternate universe where rio's precure dream was never part of the plot and it somehow wormed its way into ours. it'd make the cure parfait line a lot less worse if that was the case tbh

Going into the new year batching and complaining about something I like (because I play digimon world next order on my switch during holidays when I get stressed or tired and just want to pass time)

-Koromon's forward facing eyes upset me. This tiny predator will eat me in my sleep I know it...

-Tyranomon needs bigger eyes on his model. Make him kawaii.

-I should not be allowed to recruit Grapleomon as early as chapter 2. I should not be allowed to just go to him and lock out all other evolution options except the one I want that early in the game. That should be a "Just before the final boss" kind of service.

-Himari I love the outfit but where the fuck were you going dressed like that¿?¿?

-(Too used to Guilmon's elmo voice from the dub to get used to Yukimura's deep intelligent sounding voice)

-okay so we doing a "pushed your digimon too far dark evolution" plot with Kouta and Yukimura and though I appreciate trying to be unique by not using Megidramon you just used Skullgreymon again. Clearly the only evil dinosaur you could ever use.

-Himari, it's nice to know your backstory of having no mom and two 2nd grade twin sisters that you are basically substitute mom for and that's why your worried and wanna go home, and imagining them hungry makes you sad but like you never said you didn't have a dad. I'm sure he's at least leaving saltiness crackers out for the ankle biters while worrying about your disappearance?

-(So used to the pronunciation "Machine'DRUH'mon" that I get angry everytime Jijimon called it "Machine'DRAY'mon")

-there is a pc port of this game and like zero modding scene. Like most of the mods are just changing the title song "Accentier" and switching it with "Brave Heart". I was hoping for like model swapping digimon using models ripped from Cyber Slueth and adding them over other models or like custom outfit mods for your player character but at best it's like a color pallet swap and I know mods are hard but still... disappointment.

-speaking of the player costumes why are they dressed like that? Mostly the girl. Ur hood isn't attached to you clothes. Your wearing a onsie with wierd panties that look like a skirt but they're so tight they're crawling up your ass. WHERE WERE YOU GOING DRESSED LIKE THIS?? Is this like Adventure 02 where the digital world gives you new clothes, which would explain Himarri but if so why is Kouta dressed like he's going to chess club?

-in some of the artwork for the girl player she's shown with Palmon and Biyomon as her partners and though superfluous it would have been a nice touch if that carried over into the game instead of both players starting with Omnimon's parts.

-I like the carnevoir vs herbevoir storyline in Oguino Wastelands but it's kinda wierd that you learn Rosemon was being sweet talked into leveling the wastelands by Myotismon because he's a real-estate guy and then the two upon recruitment are stationed right next to eachother and there's no dialogue to follow that up. Infact you recruited a LOT of digimon from both factions and there could have been a 'Two Spiderman pointing at eachother' event right in the city.

-I hate how the upgraded Floatia looks. I miss DW1's restaurant that was literally walking into a toaster oven. Now I'm just walking into a restaurant.

-Stardew valley style daily "Request board" would not be out of place or unwelcome in Floatia.

-I hate the name "Floatia."

-devs, putting big batteries and circuit board patterns everwhere doesn't make it feel digital worldy :(

-people complaining when their two digimon get out of sync are strait up fools as being a day or two out of sync is OPTIMAL statgrinding! Let the Mega carry the fresh baby through hard fights and get them stats! You'll have a rookie with Mega stats in no (ingame) time!

-Spoiler: Luche's Identity as the leftover data of the possessed kid's digimon partner is cool and I like it but Luche seems to care more about the player being their ONNI-SAAAAN than reuniting with their tamer and that feels like wasted drama for such a good set up.

-I don't want to send a townie digimon on an adventure to bring back items I WANT TO GO ON AN ADVENTURE AND BRING BACK ITEMS! What I mean is, more minigames plz.

i get that people are rather unsatisfied with the end of the current arc, and i completely understand why! but honestly... because aki is my favourite, i'm always rooting for her happiness, so i'm glad she got to be happy...!

but of course i was a little confused as to how aki's feelings had seemingly changed just over the course of two chapters, so i had to go back and reread the old chapters... and it may seem far fetched, but it's not exactly a sudden development that aki's feelings did change. throughout the competition with shiho, aki had put her desire to confront (and make up with) shiho before everything else, even her own one sided feelings for yori. while she was engrossed in the competition, she didn't seem to be hiding anything away, she didn't seem to be bearing thoughts by her self, not like in the previous chapters where you could see her turmoil. somewhere along the line her feelings about shiho overpowered her feelings for yori. and even aki said it herself, she didn't know that her feelings changed.

(of course, the author could have fleshed it out better, so that it wouldn't feel like it was a development that came out of nowhere. but honestly, this arc has gone on for way too long! i like this arc, but i do think it's been dragged out enough lmao)

it may seem like an unpopular opinion amongst english speaking readers, but i do like shiho and i wanted her to be happy, whether or not she ended up with aki. even if it meant that they would never speak to each other again, i just hoped that they could reach a satisfying conclusion that would suit both shiho and aki. but it seems like the author wanted them to be together, and i'm not complaining! at this point i'm just glad it's over and aki and shiho managed to find happiness lmao. looking forward to the next arc, maybe it will be between miki and her senpai? and hopefully we'll get a momoka-hajime plotline sometime too!

(also!! i just realised that when aki gave her bass to yori and jumped down from the stage to embrace shiho... yes it was a parallel to the yorihima scene where aki had told yori to leave the cleanup to the rest and to go be with himari... but also, it was a contrasting act showing how aki was acting on her own desire! her feelings for yori kept making her hold back, to hide her feelings away, to put yori's feelings before her own, even though she longed to take a step forward. but when it came to shiho, she kept making decisions for herself. she shed tears in front of yori, she dragged her band into a competition with lorelei, she did a last minute change to the setlist, she even confessed her feelings to shiho in front of the whole school! her relationship with shiho was one that she couldn't hide away and keep to herself... whether romantic or not, aki's feelings for shiho are strong enough to make her act for her own self.)

To sorta(?) continue what I mentioned on Penguindrum's parody/satire on the first few episodes, yeah most definitely with Ringo, but also noticed that from the Takakuras themselves, mostly it's slice-of-life moments with the "siblings" and some of Kanba's scenes in the first episodes, of course mostly with his flings with those other girls (who Masako promptly f'ed up, especially the girl at the escalator)? Now that I mention it, I really did like those little in-between/slice-of-life moments of the Takakuras together... really showed that they all indeed cared and loved each other deeply, saying this because since the RE:cycle movie I guess had to remove those moments to keep the pacing going I guess? Shame. uu' Kinda unimportant, but fun fact regardless, Yosuke Yamashita, Shouma's classmate, is in love with him. u///u'

As for yamashita, yess I know, it's been confirmed back in the day through the CD dramas (don't quote me on how they we released, I think through the blurays/DVDs, but i listened to them on vk lmao).

In fact, that short CD drama about yamashita goes like that: sanetoshi is on his little radio, accepting calls... And he gets a call by yamashita who complains that the girl he loves left him to dust and ran away somewhere (when shouma goes on a school trip and leaves yamashita to deal with this whole Ringo-yuri thing). But as yamashita keeps complaining, he slips and admits he is talking about a guy. Something like that :D

And that one scene between sanetoshi and himari where talks about love as chasing after someone/running away from somebody seems to be prompted by that call and based on sanetoshi's reflections upon it :DD

-He hasn't joined the student council yet, but he aims to. And you bet he aims to be student council vice president just like his older brother.

-He and Makoto share the same homeroom ( as well as roughly 3 other classes ), it's how they first meet actually but the two ended up getting off on the wrong foot and the worst thing is, is that they have to sit next to each other for the whole year. The two are also constantly one upping one another.

-His mask around other people is easy for someone such as the closer members of his family to see, Himari doesn't say anything on it because she did the same in order to survive high school and still puts on a mask even to this day. As he ages, he just gets better and better at hiding behind that mask. But he can't really hide behind it too well with his family due to how well they know him.

-He's working for Shido right now but more on the lowkey side of things, not enough for anyone to really suspect anything. His workload only starts to pick up at the end of his second year. So he's not doing much of anything to be a cause of concern.

-He covers his freckles, even despite his family saying that his freckles look fine he covers the regardless. Probably because Shido was complaining and he wanted the man to shut up but, that much will never be admitted. Besides, he doesn't cover them when he's at home so it's not that big of a deal.

-Despite being bullied when he was younger, he's well liked and has received a lot of things within his locker. ...Some more concerning that others, and believe me when I say he tells his family about it. Additionally, this is when he gets gifted those disgusting chocolates that make him sick for roughly 3 days. This is the year he becomes picky with chocolate.

"Your reaction never gets old, Pikario!" Ciel giggled. "You can't complain before opening your birthday gift!"

"And a gift? Oh great!" Rio sighed and rolled his eyes. He then took a relatively large box wrapped in blue paper and tied with a red ribbon and a tag with his name attached on the bow. He quickly undid the ribbon and bow and lifted the lid of the box. He saw a lot of tissue paper inside and made a grimace face of disgust, which elicited some laughs from the girls. "Very funny, all of you. Let's see what-"

Rio stopped talking. When he unwrapped the gift, he saw a Nintendo Switch box. Close to it, there was three games: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

"Surprise, Pikario / Surprise Rio!" All the girls said when he finally took the Switch out of the box with a surprised face. He couldn't even talk properly and his eyes were sparkling with joy.

"I hope you like it, Rio-kun!" Ichika said with a smile.

"It was Ciel's idea!" Bibury said. "I can't wait to beat you on Smash Bros!"

"I hope you invite us for some matches!" Aoi said, raising her hand and doing a rock' n roll gesture.

"Rio-kun, are you alright?" Himari asked him, a little bit worried when he said nothing for a while after opening the box.

Rio lowered his head and stood quiet for some minutes, his hands visibly shaking while holding the box. When everyone approached him, they saw him crying. When he raised his head, everyone saw the tears falling from his red cheeks.

“I can't believe!” Rio said before a cloud of smoke enveloped him completely. He changed back to his fairy form. "I don't deserve this ~pika!"

"Pikario!!!" Ciel said before turning into her fairy form too. She tossed herself into him, making him lose all of the air in his lungs at once. "Don't say this again, ever. You deserve all the best Pikario. We love you ~kira!!"

Everyone, even Bibury, approached the siblings and enveloped them in a warm group hug. “You deserve it, Pikario!” They said, except for Bibury. It was too embarrassing for her to say this loud. Pikario couldn't stop crying and everyone had a tear of joy in the corner of their eyes.

"Thanks for doing this ~pika!" Pikario said with a bright smile and rosy red cheeks. "You're all amazing ~pika!!"

Himari as Little Sister - helpless sick girl who has to stay at home and mostly uninvolved for her own good. Extremely infantilizing role - Himari can do very little (in general), and what little she can do is absorbed as 'Angelic Icon Who Must Be Protected At All Costs' by her brothers.

Himari as Idol - it's a dead dream shared by her childhood friends, Hibari & Hikari, aka Double H. It's a dream Himari had to kill as 'fate' ripped her away from the group - the two continued their lives, while Himari had to stick with her brothers - and to keep the dream alive means allowing it to hurt and bleed through her. To keep the dream alive would have meant allowing her to complain and speak ill of others, and Himari already knows how that affects other people (koff koff, her mother, koff.)

(Double H as idols seem happy, if cutoff from the rest of the reality of the Takakuras - they only appear as cartoon chibis in the subway station, playacting advice and wisdom that will inevitably go unheeded.)

The Princess of the Crystal, aka PinGirl, is the culmination of Himari's roles - she's an extension of Himari (or at least treated as such by the brothers), and she's fashioned after some kind of idol, with extravagant style. She's the magic entity that saves Himari's life, and in turn, motivates the brothers to take action and search for the Penguindrum - though not much more than that. She appears only in short, fantastic bursts of exposition, stepping out of her booth in full PinGirl getup, grabbing the twins' attention for only a moment, before the dream fades and the two go to discuss their own ways. It is PinGirl who kickstarts the 'incest' plotline, isolating Kanba and forcing some type of intimacy with him (though the elements of this thing existed beforehand), but very much fueling the fixation of both brothers.

PinGirl... is a miserable character. Rude, arrogant and condescending, angry and impulsive - She only gets to exist as a person in short flashes, and even then, exists more for the benefit of her subjects' development than for herself. Her only interactions with the other girl in the family, Ringo, another sister seeking familial comfort, are extremely insulting and abrasive - any possibility of solidarity and understanding between the two is cut off by PinGirl's abrasiveness.

That's sad.
