Kurumi (Boss/Sky): A super charming and outgoing fashionista who possess extraordinary strength and a friendly nature. She specializes in hand-to-hand combat, but does have a greatsword.

Minato (Storm): A hot-headed and mean delinquent who loves fighting. He's not the right-hand man, but he wants to become the right-hand man really badly. He has a personal grudge against Yui.

Hiyori (Sun): A member of Namimori Middle School's Health Committee and an assistant at the school clinic. He would prefer to not get involved in illegal things like the yakuza. Unfortunately...

Yui (Right-hand man/Lightning): A genius mechanic and jokester, who often skips classes but passes anyway. He likes staying behind the scenes. He's also bestfriends with the Kana & Kurumi.

Rei (Mist): A seemingly perfect student but is actually a schemer beneath the facade. His hobbies include making money and conning people. He's an illusionist (unsurprised).

Shiki (Cloud): A snobby and moody nerd with a talent for sniping. He only follows the people he admires and rejects anyone else otherwise. He is bestfriends with Rei (actually genuine).

Rosa (Rain): A skillful and dutiful maid who smoothly handles both home cleaning and battlefield cleaning. While Kana & Kurumi are her masters, she also sees them as younger siblings.

Kana (Boss/Sky): A cold and asocial leader with a talent for killing. She cherishes her "family", especially her twin sister. An old soul that hates it when people get in her way. Don't get in her way.

Info / Explanations for the Curious

All ages are one year up from their currently listed age. The newly released ages for 4Piece are confirmed to be before their current year birthdays, meaning they will age up during the year.

While Jin and Akiomi's ages are currently listed in !!/ES1 Era as 31-32 and 29-30 on their profiles, respectively, these ages are not widely agreed upon, due to them not lining up with the Main Story's stated ages (which would be one year younger for each). Therefore, I used a wider range encompassing both of these possible ages.

Rinne and Niki never attended high school, and Niki therefore did not graduate with any of the ! Era third years, while Rinne would have been a third year during the War, had he attended.

Rei was held back due to his time abroad in his second year, making him one year older than the other ! Era Yumenosaki third-years, which he graduated with.

Tatsumi and Ritsu were both held back in their second years, due to Tatsumi's hospitalization and Ritsu's chronic absences due to his condition and lack of motivation, making them one year older than the other !!/ES1 Era third-years. Therefore, Ritsu recently graduated from Yumenosaki at the end of !!/ES1 Era March, while Tatsumi graduated from Reimei Academy around the same time.

Kaname was a first year alongside Jun during the Reimei Revolution (while Tatsumi was a second-year). Therefore, had he not been rendered comatose, he would have graduated Reimei Academy with Jun at the end of the !!/ES1 Era, making him the same age as the other !!/ES1 Era third years.

Hitsugi was admitted to the producer course during !!/ES1 Era as a second year, much like Anzu the year before, placing his age as the same as the other current !!!/ES2 third years. (While Hitsugi is 17-18 NEGI identifies as his older sister, likely putting her conscious around the age Hitsugi's original older sister died).

Current HiMERU's age is unknown, though he's older than Kaname and ran away young after his mother died, having never known about Kaname's existence until many years later. Therefore, his age range is typically placed in the early 20s, the most common estimate putting him around Rinne's age.

Seiya and Gatekeeper's ages are unknown, though they are typically estimated to be slightly older than Jin and Akiomi (mid-late 30s), with Gatekeeper seen as older, due to Gatekeeper's long history with Godfather (while Seiya is still an active idol with a late-teenage son).

“Somethin’ interesting up there?”

It is not an insignificant thing for another division’s captain to invite another squad’s subordinate to their quarters. But Shinji was never one for convention and has even less love for etiquette.

“Say, don’t you think it’s time to change out the tatami?” you ask instead of acknowledging his question.

Your back is to him, crouched in a corner of the room—staring at the ceiling. He was penning some kind of letter to Hiyori up until a couple minutes ago, humming to himself every few brush strokes; probably imagining her reactions to the stupid jokes he’s undoubtedly including.

“The time to spring clean has long since passed, ya know,” he drawls. Your head bends. Index finger scratching at a frayed edge, coaxing out the light click and snap of it. Loud in the oppressive quiet of midnight.

“When was the last time these were replaced?” you ask. “They're all discolored and patchy. And look—it’s coming apart.” You flick up a broken thread.

“Don’t pull it apart!” Shinji’s protest falls on deaf ears.

“I bet there’s a bunch of dirt trapped under here, too. I’ve never seen you clean it once.”

“Aizen probably had it done when he was captain.” Shinji waves a hand.

Your lips purse. You pierce a fingernail into the woven mat, testing its durability. There’s no doubt Aizen Sousuke had indeed done some upkeep of this room. You’d once walked by while looking for Hinamori and had taken it upon yourself to peek in—just to see.

Aizen was out working, of course. But his presence was unmistakable in the neatly arranged bookshelves, the futon he kept plump and folded, the desk, the tea set. All of it so neat. Sterile. It was like Shinji had never even lived there at all.

“Well, now you can get it replaced to celebrate your reinstatement,” you say, trying to sound casual around the plucking snap of another ripping thread. “They get musty during the summer.”

“Are ya sayin’ I stink?” he lilts. “There’s better things for us to do than fuss over the floors.” He tosses a crumpled piece of paper at you. It bounces off your shoulder. “And stop wreckin’ the tatami—I really will have to get them replaced.”

“Captain Kuchiki has someone do his—I hear they’re good. Efficient. He probably wouldn’t mind passing their name along—y’could have it done in like, three days tops.”

A pause. Then, Shinji sighs. His footsteps are soft and rhythmic as he crosses the room to slide the shoji doors open. A chill crawls inside. You shiver as it caresses up your uniform.

The Seireitei is at its best under moonlight, when the barracks are quiet and the only chatter is from the cicadas.

But Shinji, at least, is suited for its warm afternoons, when the sun is at its highest and it brings out the color of his hair.

(This insight strikes a familiar memory you keep of him: decades ago, before his disappearance, you would catch him under cloudless summer skies, lounging on the roofs. Perched for friendly, passing small talk; or perhaps to strike one of Hiyori’s many easy nerves. He’d tilt his head to talk to you and the light would catch that sheet of hair, illuminating it into golden strands.

And you, caught by the tempting shape of his profile, would always be coaxed to join. Sitting less than a sword’s length apart, he’d no idea of the longing brewing in your chest—so potent it knocked against each of your ribs.

When you spoke, you wondered if he saw it pouring out of your mouth in vapors like you did; if he was keen enough to spot the lift of your cheeks as you smiled away from him.)

“Something’s on yer mind,” he says, taking a seat beside you. “Don’t even think of hidin’ it from me, either. Got it?”

Much has changed since his disappearance. Not all of it good. You weigh the truth against a white lie. Then settle for something in between.

“Nothing really,” you mumble, drawing your arms across your chest. An absence of birdsong makes you that much more aware of your breath. “Just thinking ahead.”

“Will I have to replace them for the New Year, too?” he jests, leaning back on his hands.

The nostalgia of his posturing and banter stirs an acute yearning in your chest. Dry air stings your sinuses. Moistens your eyes. You think of life in Seireitei before everything. Before rising the ranks. Before Shinji cut his hair. Before Aizen Sousuke.

Before Aizen, you and Shinji would enjoy tea together. Or talk. Or admire the gardens. Before Aizen, you’d stare and stare at Shinji to take your fill of him—to memorize the ugly scrunch of his face as he squinted and the tiny lines by his eyes when he laughed.

“I want every trace of him gone,” you whisper finally, face buried. “I don’t want even a single piece of him left behind. I don’t want to remember him wearing your haori, or sleeping on the same futon, or using your brushes.” The brushes you gifted Shinji to celebrate his promotion. “It makes me sick just thinking about it.” From the specks of dirt to the air in that room, Aizen lingers everywhere he shouldn’t.

Shinji’s gaze is a heavy entity. You feel it on your shoulders—his quips withheld as he considers your words.

“I never took ya for the sentimental type.”

You huff an agitated noise. “It’s revenge. Don’t confuse them. ”

“Revenge for me?” Shinji asks, sounding infuriatingly gleeful.

“Don’t be ridiculous,” you scoff, nape prickling—caught. “Revenge for deceiving everyone.” Shinji merely hums. “You had your chance—Hinamori-chan deserves a turn to throttle him.” To that, Shinji doesn’t respond. But what is there to say? The wretched ghosts of your past bend to no one.

“Idiot,” he chides, achingly soft, “there’s nothin’ to worry about.”

(The tatami is replaced by the following week.)

Anytime I think too long about the fandom’s treatment of Hiyori I start seeing red.

Not enough people take her trauma seriously frrrrrrr. Like not only did she spend years as a high profile sex worker in order to survive, the man who killed her father was one of her MAIN CLIENTS! She was Orochi’s FAVORITE!! THATS FUCKING CRAZY WHY DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT IT!!!

She’s a similar character to Hancock in that they’re both considered “the most beautiful woman in the world” and have a crush on one of the strawhats that’s played for laughs, but the reception between the two is soooo different. And I KNOW it’s just because Hiyori isn’t a fighter like Hancock is 🙄🙄

KAI SATOU (27) — he/hir — Japanese & Wa Chinese ASU-NARO: Technical division (special operation unit) — Level 3 Clearance Ex-patriarch and consultant of the Satou Family. Asunaro Alliance (Chidouin Clan) subsidary.

{ Technical Division } — Double-meaning in both medical developments/research, but additionally important in the technological aspect of weaponry (which inevitably leads into trade.) The Satou Family specializes in this division and, due to the Family's high status, any acting within this department will ultimately defer to Gashu. However, even among valued researchers (ie. those who work with repairing/building obstructors), there are very few new recruits into the Family through this department as the candidate requirements for its trust are extremely strict under his ruling. Rarely anyone is involved in the AI development; with those who breach confidentiality being met with death.

{ Special Operation Unit } — Subtly referring to its 'less savory' practices; though managed by the Hiyori House, there are units within other Families. In recent years, Kai has been referred to reconnaissance work rather than assassination targets once his inability to kill was revealed. Despite punishment and expected execution, they instead elected to utilize him for gathering information on the Chidouins (at least, that is what the order claims). Everyone within these units are aware of the Death Game in some capacity.

As seen in { Level 3 Clearance } ... Kai is only given very limited information on this project after his disobedience. He was once permitted Level 4—alongside those such as HIyori, Emiri, Michiru, & various old guard—but Kai has completely broken Asunaro's trust and shown himself to be a willing, dangerous traitor if he deems it necessary. The only details he holds were through his father and what little was revealed in the Death Game's beginnings, as well as Gashu's interest in replacing Kai with Michiru and Emiri (now his superiors, despite his seniority); as development continued, other candidates have been completely omitted from report requests. The bulk of this work is instead entrusted to those working under the Hiyoris at Levels 3/4.

In more distinct detail, as applied to its medical field:

— Level 1: Simply citizens with which Asunaro holds no further interest. Unaware of the scope of Asunaro; follows typical confidentiality required by government. — Level 2: Involved in upcoming projects to varying degrees, with signed confidentiality for all patented projects. Primarily excused as typical medical research and development; no peek into AI, obstructor work, etc. Coincides with security detail (at least, those who weren't raised in Asunaro), who are the only few who interact with Level 3 agents to convey orders & information. — Level 3: Reserved for those who have caught Asunaro's interest or were born in Asunaro but haven't yet completed their training... or, simply, those they cannot fully trust. Prior to Gashu's induction, he was placed here—as was Emiri and Michiru. Those in this level are slightly more aware of the depths of Asunaro in terms of the eerie amount of information they gather on each volunteer/patient's personal lives alongside medical records... these extensive profiles, which will make their assignments easier to complete, but will nonetheless leave people on-edge. At this point, the only 'out' is either death or dismissal (with lasting negative impact on one's future work.) Many working here are involved in finding human candidates for trial tests, engineering obstructors, etc. and will defer to Gashu Satou. Their yakuza roots begin to seep into daily life; as Megumi and Hayasaka particularly bear the brunt of, though Hayasaka's been given Level 4 for divulging technical information. They are under heavy surveillance and scrutiny. — Level 4: Trusted agents who know of the Death Game in detail and are actively contributing to it; involved in artificial intelligence, organizing (re)construction of the DG grounds, managing the specific candidates involved, so on and so forth. As stated above, those under the Hiyori name are sent to gather basic information—however, it is Sou Hiyori (Midori) himself who gathers most of the details beneath for AI purposes. The Chidouins are an exception, given to Kai as per the Godfather's request... Everyone on this level is aware of the Chairman, but have rarely spoken to him personally; only a select few know his family name, and perhaps that is the extent of it. Many others only refer to Asunaro as the clan they work for, rather than a particular Family name (successor of the Hades Incident) ...Kai is included, left unaware of the true nature of the family he now loves so dearly. — Level 5: Those who know the Godfather/Chairman Chidouin personally. The Floormasters belong here.

{ Ex-patriarch } — As Kai was intended to bear the mantle of leading the Satou Family established upon being the victor of the Assassin's Trial; the Godfather's strong right hand. However... Kai never proved himself past the Trial and was thereby never given the opportunity, once of-age, to succeed Gashu for the title's claim & responsibility. Gashu simultaneously acts as a supervisor of Asunaro's medical branch and manages its yakuza involvement as { Chidouin Clan subsidaries } beneath this front. Kai has been all but expelled from his own Family.

{ Consultant } is simply meant to clarify Kai's role as an assassin beneath flowery language. As all assassins loyal to Asunaro, they are allowed a certain level of freedom; 'do as you please, so long as you hit the mark' ... Kai managed to abuse this to keep himself alive for so long, using lies and certain manipulative tactics (not only in adjusting records on these victims, but at times... electing them for any other punishment beside death. to give them time) to keep his targets alive & fuel the hope that Asunaro would find some use in him despite initial reluctance to kill.

Assassins are given the general rundown and then left to use their own discretion. Naturally, there are suggestions Asunaro may offer for when and where to kill, a deadline by which this person can no longer interfere, but they are given permission to scout on their own rather than rely on informants. The only word of caution is to not get caught; despite the teachings to withstand torture, any rescue mission is less than ideal and will certainly leave questions on one's performance. Ultimately, Asunaro's only request of their assassins is to kill or retrieve these targets. Anything more raises undue suspicion, and Kai was forced to balance this for much of his life and work as a yakuza agent.
