Blu Christmas Holiday Movie Asplosion 2022! ⛄ Chapter 35: A Christmas Story 🦌 And back to another that I've seen my whole life, but is new to 4K. Probably the only good movie made from Jean Shepherd's semi-fictional though autobiographically inspired "Parker Family Saga" (apparently a name to encompass them all), I'd like to point out again that this seminal holiday classic was directed by Bob Clark, who also directed "Black Christmas", which is about as far as you can get from A Christmas Story, aside from the season. I'm saying nothing new about the movie itself (it's become a classic for a reason, it's very quotable, the highlight is the dad), but I will say the 4K transfer is, like many of these, pretty good. It looks as good as it ever has, while still retaining that look of somehow feeling like it was from the 40s even though it was made in the 80s. Do you live by faith? In this day and age where most of us are questioning everything while others take deep dives into set-up narratives, "Do you live by faith?" is a great question. That's why during this holiday season, it is interesting that three popular holiday movies share the same sentiment. In "Miracle on 34th Street" little Natalie Wood's character repeats over and over "I believe. I believe. I believe." And then, her final wish appears in a way she could never have imagined. In "The Santa Clause," Judy the elf says "Seeing isn't believing. Believing is seeing," when Scott Calvin is mystified by what he is experiencing as the new Santa Clause. In "Elf," Santa Claus shares how Christmas spirit works, telling Buddy's half-brother Michael that "Christmas spirit is about believing, not seeing." Blu Christmas Holiday Movie Asplosion 2022! ⛄ Chapter 28: Love Actually 🦌 So, I still enjoy this unbelievable overblown wish fulfillment by coincidence or nonsense fantasy in a real world setting; though the fact that it *is* all those things is the main reason I can accept the more problematic elements. But, the fact is, it's more than half populated with people being either awful or just bad, while the half decent sorts are punished by circumstance-- well, anyway, my point is, I still like it, but the things I don't care for in it have pushed it back several places in the order this year.
