The kids had a great time this morning at “school.” I had 2 live classes so I needed them to be pretty settled before those started. So we went down in time for them to run around and play. Then we settled for circle time and they dove into their activities. . . I’m not sure why but M is basically refusing to color right now. She is usually the one who loves art, so it is unusual. But I guess I need to do more sensory type stuff for her. They loved the dinosaur rescue (although it took 10 seconds, even when I made them ball up the tape) and sorting the beads into the muffin tins was their favorite activity. . . Now, all of that being said, when I claim to be teaching online, they are running around in the background and asking me questions or showing my students their work 🤦🏼‍♀️. And I have yet to teach a class without the baby in my carrier (usually sleeping). But I think that as we continue to build routines at “school,” they will be able to work a little bit longer on their own. Honestly, the best part is when they get to the “read books” part of their schedule. I got them an egg timer and it is silent while they read!! I did 5 mins yesterday and they were sad when it ended. Today I did 10 and I was amazed...! They were surprised when time ended. So that’s pretty cool. . . For tomorrow: 1. Melissa and Doug seek and find pages (I know H will get this but M could end up just putting stickers on and that’s fine) 2. @totschooling Printables they love - penguins and matching color hats plus a baby/mama animal matching 3. Some line tracing (they love highlighters...) 4. The game lucky ducks — another they can play solo 5. These are outlines of my hands w nails drawn on them. @cathyosimon Sent this to me as an idea where you give them nail polish...I’m leaning towards paint brushes with washable paint? At least this time...maybe real thing next time...maybe... 6. LL is a curious thinker and thirsty for knowledge. The other day he asked how whales stayed warm. I was planning this activity for the future but here was the perfect opportunity. We pulled the ice cream maker own out of the fridge, filled with water and stuck in the freezer for a couple of hours. We didn't have shortening so I used bacon fat. I rubber banded a sandwich bag to LL's hand and stuck it a sandwich bag with bacon grease and rubber banded that on. I spread the grease so it covered his fist. First we tested the temperature which LL determined was "as cold as the artic." Then, we stuck the protected hand in the water. He was able to leave this hand in the water for several minutes without getting cold. His bare fingers lasted less than 30 seconds before he was cold.
