Something I was curious about is that you say Hazbin and Helluva don’t follow religious or biblical accuracy, but you seem to forget that it’s not supposed too. It’s Viv’s own spin on biblical things so of course it won’t be biblically accurate.
I’m not trying to be mean or degrade you in anyway I just don’t get why you think it needs to be accurate to religion.)
Because Viv's spin on the religion and its figures is like this

You know what we should bring back?
Older christianity. I mean the anti government, anti military, community based christianity. The one that cared the most about peace, equality, mercy, kindness, and radical love. The one with shared property. The one that didn't conform to society but instead existed mostly outside of it. The one where noone considered one sin worse than another because in the end, we are all sinners trying our best to be better.

The audacity of straight people to demand that LGBTQ people respect and accept homophobic/transphobic religious beliefs and family members, as if those beliefs are merely harmless opinions and not the deeply bigoted and harmful ideas that they are.

Still confused how being raised in a religious background causes 'lesbians' to sleep with moids outside of marriage... Nobody at my church was promoting premarital sex and fornication.
I'll wait for the 'lesbians' to explain that logic.
how does being told repeatedly that being same-sex attracted will cause u to burn in hell for eternity make someone do whatever it takes to try to “fix” their same-sex attraction? idk seems blatantly obvious to me

I'm so fucking tired. My dad has been home for 3 days and this bastard hasn't had a single nice thing to say about me. But oh boy has he had a lot to say about me! I mean, it's not as bad as normal but it still fucking sucks and I feel like I wanna cry. OH AND GET THIS! So we had lunch in my city's queer district. He mentioned that he knew a woman who used to own a bar there and whispered "it was a gay bar". I respond "congrats you've just described 75% of the bars here" AND HE SCOFFS AND FAKE GAGS WTF?!?! I know this fucker is a homophobe but I thought he'd be better after I came out...... I then talked about all the nice married gay couples I knew around there 🥰

Little thing I finally finished!
Warnings for vague homophobia, tranphobia, and religious trauma.
Do you remember the double doors leading into your paradise? Paradise, where you were liked and loved. Valued, even.
Do you remember the double doors, where the smiling faces met you? With a computer in hand and a name badge to match. Welcoming you to the music with the worship and the snacks
Do you remember the double doors, and the auditorium inside? With gaming systems and food, a bribery was made. Your time for their beliefs.
Do you remember the double doors? Do you remember what lied before them?Remember being shunned and being told love is a sin?
Do you remember those double doors once they no longer hid paradise? The daunting feeling of those doors could suffocate the strongest of men.
Do you remember the double doors that hid the cruelty of children? Ignorance for others that could only be taught by their elders.
Do you remember the day the double doors shut for you, when the house no longer felt like a home? When the cross no longer felt familiar?
Do you remember sinking, falling, dying, when the double doors came into view?
Do you remember the double doors, and how they had sealed shut for you?

-_- the homophobic girl who was in my geomorph class is in BOTH my current classes. Has a naturally loud speaking voice, and keeps talking to her friends. When I’m hard of hearing, noise adverse and just want some quiet so I can do my graphs.

RE: the pope saying priests can bless gay couples
(from an ex-homeschooled ex-Catholic apologetics-trained queer)
Reaction 1: wow I can’t believe he even dared to TRY saying that in the modern Church, especially after the shit that’s gone down with the recent synod
Reaction 2: how the FUCK?? Does that work with the Catechism’s pretty darn specific language about being careful to not even slightly condone people choosing to live in a homosexual lifestyle?
Reaction 3: oh my god the various schismatic groups are going to lose their shit and this will be VERY interesting. “Pope Francis isn’t a legitimate pope he’s a plant influenced by Satan blah blah blah. not MY pope” etc. get fucked lmao. die mad. you might finally cause enough ruckus to get officially excommunicated and join SSPX in war-of-attrition limbo! you already basically divorce yourself from the slightly more normal devout Catholic crowds because of how you act anyway lol
Reaction 4: this is going to shred the USCCB and all the current devout practicing Roman Catholics in the U.S. my god this’ll be interesting.
Reaction 5: I am so glad I no longer have to hear EWTN and Catholic Answers every day now. I cannot imagine how much Catholic Fox News is going to focus on this in coming days and months
my main thoughts:
I genuinely don’t understand how this is possible when the official Church doctrine still describes “same-sex attraction” as a “disorder” of “Natural Law” and clearly states that while people who bear the cross of being queer can be faithful Catholics, they have to be chaste and never act on their desires, and that the homosexual lifestyle and acts are not allowed for Catholics and cannot be condoned??
Blessing queer unions would sure fall under the category of “could be viewed as at least partially condoning homosexual lifestyles”.
I can’t wait to hear the reasoning behind this one. It’s sure going to give nuclear firepower to the “Francis isn’t a legitimate pope, he’s a plant from the Satan-influenced Jesuits and leading the Church astray” near-schism crowd!

Lewisohn vs. Wenner Pt. 1 of 2
Tumblr media
I kid, I kid! Of course I'll adjudicate things between these lads.
I'm working on the follow-up(s) to my Kim Bennett post, but I lack the degree of coherence necessary to finish them at the moment. My household has been hit with Covid and influenza, so I'm too sleep deprived to string together a proper point. But I can still check citations, baby!
Today we're tackling a fun source: Jann Wenner, co-founder of Rolling Stone magazine and early-70s confidante of the LennOnos. Mark Lewisohn quotes interviews conducted by Jann Wenner ten times in Tune In; nine of those quotes had issues. Nine of the ten quotes come from the infamous Lennon Remembers interview (conducted in Dec. 1970 and first published in Jan. 1971); the other one is from a different 1970 interview for Rolling Stone. A few of these have been covered by @mythserene; I've included links to her analysis.
About half of Lewisohn's Wenner-sourced 'quotes' are Textbook Multi-Source Frankenquotes. Lewisohn does this quite brazenly--if you look at the text of the endnote, it will say something like "First and third parts of quote from Bip Bop Weekly, second part from interview with...." The multi-source quotes will appear in part two; this post will include the single-source ones.
Pictured text is from Lennon Remembers (Verso, 2000 ed.), but I made my comparison against the audio of the interview. You can listen to it on YouTube here. I've included time stamps as well as page numbers for each quote.
Tune In 33-2 vs. Wenner p.65 (1:49:24), 145-6 (4:16:43)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do not like the way Lewisohn wrote/cited this--each quote from the Beatles is pulled from a different source, but it's presented almost as a dialogue. It would be simple stuff to slap an endnote after each quote giving its source, rather than using a single endnote for all four separate quotes.
That's just a quibble, but this quote delivers a big issue as well. See that ellipsis? Lewisohn is letting you know that he left out over two hours of recorded interview between the first and second parts of this quote. You can use an ellipsis to omit a few words or a sentence or two in the same passage--you can't use it to omit multiple hours of conversation.
An ellipsis would be perfectly acceptable between the fragment and the final sentence, but Lewisohn chose not to use one.
Tune In 24-33 vs. Wenner p.63 (1:44:58)

I have come to love those instances were Lewisohn throws in one token ellipsis as if that will distract from the fact that he completely scrambled the order of the sentences.
Tune In 31-44 vs. Wenner p.27 (54:46)

@anotherkindofmindpod discussed this in their Fine Tuning series - I believe in the episode "Leader Lennon." I won't hit it too hard.
As you can see, the context in the source text is wildly different from its use in Tune In. In the original, John is discussing confronting the Maharishi about rape allegations. In Tune In, Lewisohn uses it in the context of….discussing a song choice with George Martin. A bit different. John does imply some universality in the source quote (“as usual”), but this still seems like a stretch. Also note the omission of the word “actually” in the phrase “I actually had to be the leader,” which, to my reading, implies that John wasn’t constantly in Leader Lennon mode, unless the others were forcing him to handle the dirty work.

friendly reminder that yes actually it is hateful to call something that is a part of a person that they can not control a sin. don't let Christians gaslight you into thinking they don't mean any harm by saying you being gay is a sin.

I've kind of been in limbo on this fic I've been tossing around, but I wanted to hold off and see where canon will be by the end of S16 with the emotions brewing between Mac & Dennis. And boy.... I'm glad I did.
Yes.... the 'Johnny' of it all. I have too many fucking thoughts (all wickedly delighted at this shameless development) but even just at a surface human level: Dennis catfished Mac. That's a really fucked up thing to do to your friend.
He falsified a relationship with him. That's an intimate betrayal, and I don’t think it's just a joke that Mac was in denial. He's given up at Dennis' insistence of being straight. Only for the lie detector test to determine: THAT WAS A LIE! Followed by the confession that he has been intentionally yanking Mac back, outright pursuing and establishing a written, sexual and consuming relationship because he's no longer getting Mac's attention and devotion. He tells Mac to move on, but he's secretly working against any possible progress Mac could make.
I know it's a sitcom, and reveals are played for laughs, but Rob first put on that heartbroken and wounded puppy dog expression when Dennis admitted that he was Johnny. If Mac really didn't understand what Dennis was saying, then why did he try to stop him from talking about, proving it? Why did he lie and say it was buzzing before Dennis could press it?
'Then, who is you?' Is Dennis, Dennis? Is Dennis, Johnny? Is there any hope that Mac could ever fall in love with anyone other than Dennis? After everything it took for them to become friends again; Mac doesn't want to believe it. Even if the remaining episodes do little to show it, deep down, he knows, and he's hurting over it.
Still, the point stands that according to S16E4, Dennis had devoted weeks to secretly wooing Mac. Like, they had to start somewhere before the anal beads. There's a reason Mac thinks Johnny is special, a reason Mac is certain he's in love with someone he's never met. I wonder what's in those texts.
Can't wait for the smut fics to come out on this. We all know that Mac wasn’t the only one getting off during those exchanges.
I cannot even get into the Charlie and Uncle Jack trauma they've been bitch-slapping us with this season. Like, Jesus Christ, they won't let up. I'm cringing the whole time. I started getting the neck thing.
This one was a fucking doozy, just like.... damn. Hey, at least RCG are not catering to the sunny dudebros so much, because they pretty much just finally gave us our rightful, canonically queer Dennis Reynolds!

Christian Academy of Louisville's "letter to a homosexual friend" assignment takes a “love the sinner, hate the sin” approach to queerness: Tell your friend you still love them, but make sure they know how wrong you think their “lifestyle” is, and use every Bible quote in your arsenal to convince them to change.
In fact, the real “sin” in “hate the sin, love the sinner” rhetoric lies in calling queerness sinful, and failing to recognize the vital gifts that queerness brings to the Body of Christ. Plus, declaring that people like me are abominations still feels like a punch to the gut, even if you wrap your fist in pretty words about respect, sensitivity, and love.
