Top 5 Best Mods for the Honda Civic Type-R FL5
Let’s be honest, there are way less FL5 owners testing the full potential of their factory built track weapon when compared to FK8 owners, which is obviously due to how new it is and the massive markup they likely paid leaving the pandemic. As the auto sales market begins to reach pre-stimulus levels, we can only hope to see more and more of those future classics hit the tracks. As far as I can tell, Honda made slight improvements to the cooling system when compared to the FK8, but FL5 owners are still feeling the heat. 
For your casual auto-crosser or beginner level HPDE enthusiast, it’s probably not as big of an issue as it would be if you were moving into the more advanced tiers and going all in for the majority of your session.  However, once you start finding more power through bolt-ons and advance tuning, the K20C1 really starts to sweat. That being said, if you’re going to hit the track in your Type R like Koji Watanabe-san would want, you owe it to your investment to upgrade your cooling system. While you have the trusty AMEX out, you might as well upgrade the braking system too. 
With that being said, these are the Top 5 Best Mods for the Honda Civic Type-R FL5:

Despite being a cutting edge performance car, the FL5 does have its flaws. Heat soak is one problem area, particularly during sustained hard driving. That being said, the factory exhaust on the FL5 was designed with a compliance first, performance eventually mindset. Luckily, exhaust artisans from all over the world have come to the rescue on our quest for power and sound.  HKS has been known for their signature sounds since their inception. Gone are the days of the T51R and Super Drager, instead HKS has blessed us with the Legamax line. Completely ditching the factory valve system, HKS believes in flow consistency and has designed the Legamax to deliver a 30% increase in exhaust flow, which when paired with the HKS Power Editor results in impressive gains over stock, and even improved boost pressure and response. 
4. PRL Motorsports Billet Intercooler Upgrade
As with any turbo-charged car, the FL5 needs cool, dense air to make the best power, however the standard intercooler isn’t really up to the task. A slightly inefficient design coupled with the FL5’s heat soak issues have driven a variety of companies to offer aftermarket kits. Our favorite is this PRL kit, with its re-designed end tanks and expanded core size, increasing the intercooler surface area by 31% over stock. Billet machined aluminum end tanks maximize efficiency while looking as smooth as they flow! This intercooler utilizes factory mounting spots with the billet machined end tanks as well as all factory air ducts/shrouds. PRL extended the intercooler fins to take up the entire width of the front bumper’s opening to increase allow for adequate cooling to/through the intercooler into the radiator. 
5. Enkei TS-5 
TS-5 is part of the Tuning Series. This five spoke model does a fantastic job of dispersing stress efficiently and allows it to keep the spokes as thin as possible to cut down on weight. Relief cuts on the fronts and sides utilize sacred geometry to keep from sacrificing strength and effectively shave weight even further. The step-down lip adds depth and that extra emphasis on this star shape.  18×9.5 +45 5×120 wrapped in 265/35R 18 (As pictured) seem to be most practical fit, but if being original isn’t your thing, we also have TE-37’s in stock.

The engine is not peaky; the turbos engage from 2000rpm and become more engaging at 3000rpm, making it easy to utilize the torque in sixth gear. Despite its 705bhp, it feels almost normal by today's standards. What sets this car apart is its old-school charm rather than modern technology. It feels reminiscent of historic racers, with a pleasant roll around the corners that provides a sense of movement without being alarming. The balance and interplay of the systems make it appealing. The gearbox has a longer throw compared to the Honda Civic Type R, but this allows the turbos to spool up before shifting to the next gear. The Valour doesn't lead its class in any particular area, and that's part of its charm. Its electrically assisted steering doesn't match the feel of a McLaren, and its suspension doesn't offer the refined balance of ride and handling provided by modern twin-valve dampers. However, these aspects don't detract from the Valour's appeal. Aston Martin Valour: VerdictIt’s easy to be cynical about the Vantage, viewing it as an old car dressed up and sold at a high price. As an ardent fan who’s owned three GTIs over the last 15 years, few new car launches get me as excited as a new generation of the iconic hot hatch. The Mk8 2022 model ushers the GTI into a high-tech new era while retaining that raw, analogue driving feel intrinsic to its DNA.
A Brief History of an Icon
Ever since the first Mk1 GTI introduced the concept of an attainable, performance-oriented “hot hatch” to the masses in 1976, driving enthusiasts have had a new affordable toy. My first was a handed-down Mk2 from the late 80s, complete with plaid cloth seats cramping four friends during high school cruises along winding backroads (sorry Mom!). But as I upgraded over the next decade from a Mk4 to Mk6, power, tech and refinement increased without losing that playful spirit.
Mk8 Brings Big Upgrades Under a Familiar Shape
You’d be forgiven for not immediately noticing the Mk8 as all-new – the rounded silhouette and C-pillar “kink” are trademark GTI. But under the skin lies the biggest overhaul yet, sitting on VW’s latest MQB platform packing upgraded systems. Options like matrix LED headlights, a digital cockpit and driver assistance systems bring the GTI clearly into the 2020s. Yet a multi-function perforated leather wheel and trademark plaid seats keep that classic identity. More Power with Serious efficiency GTI fans care most about what’s under the hood, and the Mk8’s turbocharged 2.0-liter engine adds 13 hp for a total 241 hp and 273 lb-ft torque - hugely usable grunt. My DSG test car hit 60mph in under 6 seconds thanks to that immediate shove, while delivering 34 mpg highway. And the optional performance exhaust pops and crackles just enough to satisfy when revved, without annoying the neighbors constantly. Balanced, Playful Handling Remains Core Strength Through sweeping curves of my favorite SoCal canyon routes, the GTI stayed planted and lively. The new VAQ limited-slip differential meant I could really lean on the accurate steering and impressive grip levels from wider tires before gentle understeer curbed my momentum. Adaptive dampers on certain trims add greater compliance in comfort mode too. It’s still the trusty Front-wheel drive balance that makes the GTI so satisfying to chuck around bends. Gearbox Options to Suit Any Driver Stick-shift fans can rejoice as VW retained the standard 6-speed manual for ultimate involvement, with auto rev-matching helping smooth shifts. But most will opt for the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic that suits the GTI’s torque-rich character - snappy, smart shifts to better accelerate but still highly responsive using paddles. I’d welcome the manual’s added driver connection, but won’t mourn losing the DSG’s convenience in traffic.
How Rivals Compare
Having tested the latest Civic Type R and Hyundai i30 N Performance, the Mk8 GTI keeps pace with these FWD heavies while undercutting entry prices. The Honda and Hyundai build on front-drive with their less-sophisticated platforms by adding power or handling sharpness – turning up extremes where the GTI takes a more holistic approach. All three deliver huge grins, but the GTI remains that all-weather, all-condition dynamo.
Why it Matters
As electric swells, SUVs dominate and autonomous looms, few cars engage a driver’s senses like the 2022 GTI. It's an icon that helped define the hot hatch formula of blending real-world practicality with responsive handling, communicative feedback and usable performance. BALIPORTALNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – PT Honda Prospect Motor menutup tahun 2023 dengan mencatat penjualan secara retail sebanyak 128.010 unit atau meningkat sebesar 2% dibandingkan periode Januari - Desember tahun sebelumnya. Peningkatan tersebut didukung oleh model-model SUV yang berkontribusi sebesar 51,3% terhadap penjualan Honda di tahun 2023. Sepanjang tahun 2023 model-model SUV mencatatkan peningkatan penjualan sebesar 18% dibandingkan tahun 2022. Peningkatan penjualan model SUV Honda didukung oleh kehadiran Honda WR-V sebagai varian terbaru dalam lini produk SUV Honda dimana model ini mulai didistribusikan pada akhir tahun 2022. Pada tahun 2023, Honda WR-V berhasil mencatatkan penjualan sebanyak 18.046 unit, atau berkontribusi sebesar 14% dari total penjualan. Sementara itu penjualan SUV tertinggi yaitu Honda HR-V, berhasil terjual sebanyak 24.736 unit dengan kontribusi sebesar 19,3% terhadap penjualan Honda di tahun 2023. Selanjutnya Honda BR-V berhasil mencatatkan penjualan sebanyak 18.104 unit serta model SUV flagship Honda yaitu All New Honda CR-V terjual sebanyak 4.720 unit. Sepanjang tahun 2023, Honda Brio kembali menjadi model dengan penjualan terbanyak dengan 56.627 unit. Model Honda lainnya seperti Honda City Hatchback RS terjual sebanyak 2.707 unit, Honda Mobilio terjual 1.547 unit, Honda Civic terjual 901 unit, Honda Accord terjual 272, Honda City sebanyak 266 unit unit serta Honda Civic Type R sebanyak 84 unit. Yusak Billy selaku Sales & Marketing and After Sales Director PT Honda Prospect Motor mengatakan, bersyukur di tengah pencapaian penjualan otomotif nasional yang tidak setinggi tahun sebelumnya, permintaan terhadap produk Honda tetap tinggi sehingga Honda dapat mencapai peningkatan penjualan secara retail di tahun 2023. “Kami akan terus memonitor perkembangan pasar di tahun 2024, melakukan pengaturan stok dan produksi agar dapat terus memenuhi permintaan konsumen, serta terus menyegarkan pasar dengan pembaruan produk dan program penjualan yang menarik untuk konsumen,” tutur Yusak Billy dalam keterangan resmi yang diterima Baliportalnews pada Selasa (16/1/2024).
