"Khu Vườn Yên Tĩnh is filled with elaborate melodies and improvisations performed on traditional Vietnamese instruments, including various flutes (sáo and tieu) and stringed instruments (neither the instruments nor their performers are identified) that create a very Vietnamese soundscape. Hồng Nhung’s singing style moves from using traditional intervals and scales to Middle Eastern arabesques to sexy Western-style crooning, often in a decidedly improvisatory manner. Yet the music is modern because of its use of Western instruments in a sometimes sparse, sometimes rich orchestration. This album is unlike any other recorded in Vietnam, and while I don’t wish to sound like a record reviewer, I believe it places Hồng Nhung in a category all of her own. Because of her use of traditional Vietnamese musical characteristics and soundscapes within her pop music style, her feelings about the importance of the Vietnamese past, and yet her desire to give more emphasis on the present and hope for the future, Hồng Nhung widely travels along a globalization/Vietnamization subcontinuum. On the one hand she recognizes the value of projecting traditional Vietnamese musical characteristics in her otherwise modern style, and on the other hand she reveals an interest in globalization and her own kind of world music fusion, as she called it, which is her own brand of glocalization, because it is a global palette blended with Vietnamese colors."
