Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
an explanation for the thelque here and what I found out
so like I was complaining to my gf about the lack of HI32 (I shorten part 2 to that and occasionally call it hi thirty two in my head) stuff on Tumblr and I was curious if twitter had anything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OKAY THEN HOYO.
I only searched Songque's name as well.
like I got vibes from it and did point it out once when I completed the story and was ranting about it. but like. if they insist then I'm in for this crazy toxic yuri.
I don't use twitter often at all but ayo maybe if I'm struggling on something again I'll get another insane drop of knowledge.

I love ZZZ and I love Hi3, Part 1 and Part 2, can we please stop comparing them and also stop shitting on Part 2 I'm so tired, I have so many thoughts and I'm tired and sleepy and might! Delete this in the morning who knows, maybe my thoughts will change by then. I'm just. So exhausted of this
Positivity at the end regardless. It's not all hurt and doom and gloom
- A story that is life changing and completely stunning with some of my favourite characters of all time
Things Honkai Impact 3rd is:
- An 8 year old game with a structure originally built to run on the mobile devices of the time which does make it stiff to play at times but still makes it an absolute wonder
- Doing it's best building off the clunky original code base of the game
- Continuing to make great stories with Part 2 while trying to make it's own identity as a new Era of Honkai Impact
Things Honkai Impact 3rd is not:
- Failing to live up to its past with the new part, there's been 3 chapters and most of the people I see complaining about it haven't played more than the first chapter and even if they have they look at it with such a clouded and negative lense, the part 2 story is WONDERFUL and it just gets better with each chapter
- The Worse ZZZ, Honkai Impact is and always has been its own thing in comparison to EVERY Hoyoverse game to come after it, even Honkai Star Rail is not like Honkai Impact at all.
- Deserving of being completely shit on constantly, criticism is fine but I've not seen any good cases of that in months, I actually do have my own criticisms of hi3 part two even if it's been my entire life since it came out but nobody approaches it critically nowadays because they're too stuck in part 1
Things Zenless Zone Zero is:
- The best combat I've played in a while for a gacha game
- Full of really fun characters and designs with amazing and fluid character animation
- A game that came out around two days ago and barely has given us enough to make a proper judgement on the quality of the story.
Things Zenless Zone Zero is not:
- A HONKAI IMPACT 3RD REPLACEMENT
- A GAME THAT SHOULD BE COMPARED TO AN 8 YEAR OLD GAME CONSTANTLY JUST TO CLOWN ON THE OLD GAME
Can we please. Judge ZZZ on its own merits without making people feel shit for enjoying Honkai Impact 3rd and especially for liking Part 2. I don't even want ZZZ to be in the same category of games as the other Hoyoverse games, please, let it be it's own thing so we can just enjoy it for what it is, super ultra fun.
I hate continually seeing people I Look Up To in the Honkai Impact 3rd community using part 2 as a punching bag for not immediately having the most engaging first chapter ever when we ALL know how bad Hi3 was before Chapter 9, so many people go out of their way just to explain to newcomers that it gets good by chapter 9 and how the early chapters suck and you have to read several Manga just for anything to make sense.
Give Part 2 the love it deserves, stick with it for longer that one or two chapters, play through the third chapter and wait with the rest of us for chapter 4 through 6 and beyond, if it continues to disappoint you that's fair but please stop thinking of it like Part 1. It's not Part 1, it's not Part 1.5 and definitely not something like Part 1.5 the second, it's a new story that has its own characters and its own dynamics and its own story to tell with characters who have an incredible amount of depth to them, like Thelema and Songque.
I love Honkai Impact Part 1, I love Honkai Impact Part 2 and I love Zenless Zone Zero. Can we just enjoy our own things without constant negativity with all the comparisons. It's so so so tiring. These are amazing worlds that touch the hearts of so many and that.. Is what should be focused on.
We should focus on the lives that these stories change, the people who were made better by the experiences these games gave them. Focus on the amazing artists in these communities that feed everyone amazing works of all kinds and focus on the passion behind both the people working behind the games and the passion of the people playing them. That's what deserves the focus here, not lashing out with negativity when there's good in the world like this.
I wouldn't be where I am in life without Honkai Impact 3rd. And I am forever grateful that I now get to be here to experience ZZZ with the people I love who I met because of Hi3.
That's what's most important to me in the end.

day 999999 of me hoping that Mihoyo will someday sync the Hi3rd non-CN servers with CN, so that we dont get story spoilers 4 weeks ahead of our own story release for literally every single event and main story chapter…
I didn’t even get spoiled or anything (yet?). i was actually planning on brewing up a Part 2 theory post based on the recent event lore drops.
But… the CN server already got the next chapter of the story, so if i make a lore post theres a high chance someone will go “uhh actually, we already figured out this mystery, you see, in the next story update we learn that [insert massive story spoiler here]”.
Im just tired of being unable to engage with Hi3rd’s lore community (or what little of it actually exists) because I’ll rarely be able to contribute anything new and meaningful when the CN server that’s 4 weeks ahead of us already gets all the answers to the big mysteries of the story arc…

I caved and got into HI3 a little over a week ago and I haven't been posting about it but I just finished the new story chapter that came out today and the Serapeum plotline sent honest-to-stars chills down my bones, and I feel like I'm going to crumple into tatters if I don't talk about it a little (under a cut obviously because the patch only came out today)
Lotus Eater plots always tend get me on edge but something about the way Phase 1 plays out really got to me. The way that Serapeum's Union is intially presented almost like it's a zombie plague slowly enveloping more people, and then as the chapter progresses the new information making it clear it's somehow worse than that because everybody that's stuck in the Union wasn't tricked or forced into it - "they chose to stay voluntarily" is something that took a few minutes to really sink in but when it did, ough. Then you actually get into the Union and, like...
Helia's scenario is the one that's sticking out the most in my mind because even if she hasn't had a lot of strong characterization in the story up to this point seeing her be, just...completely pacified. The way she's already grown idle and content with spending an eternity fighting meaningless battles where she'll always win. The quiet disappointment and frustration she has when it's laid bare that she'll never actually get meaningfully stronger in here because eventually this library will run out of new material to experience and at no point in that infinity will anything have challenged her or forced her to grow. I had worms crawling all over me reading this sequence and it's so good.
Not to besmirch the other parts:
The way Coralie's independence, confidence, and drive keep her relatively sane but still makes her a target for the Union to warp those desires against her by letting her pursue an endless snipe hunt, letting her sift through a bottomless well of knowledge and sinking deeper into its sway all the while.
The way Senadina hasn't even formed enough of an identity for the Union to have a corruptive effect on her mental state, but her one basic desire of "find Serapeum and wake her up" is still enough for the Union to ensnare her by keeping her in a loop where she futilely tries to go deeper into the Union and winds up back at its start. The unstated implication that at no point in that loop did she think to abandon that quest to leave and get help (if you don't want to be there it doesn't force you to stay, after all) and just kept moving forward in spite of it all.
AND THEN
THE PART THAT KILLED ME
Is getting to the very end after Serapeum's woken up and realizing that even she wasn't immune to the corruptive effects of the hivemind she created in the first place, succumbing and becoming just the voice of the consensus. The realization that the source of the looming and tense dread that has hung over the entire chapter is a mere child. A lonely child that could sympathize with peoples' plights but not empathize with them, who only understood the world through a castle-sized library of books, trying to brute-force an understanding between people by reducing them to blank slates and turning their lives into just more books to read.
I'm not even going to get into the parts with Lantern but she's great in this too. The whole phase has this delicious tension throughout, my heart is honestly still pounding writing this all out. Part 2 Chapter 1 didn't really impress me outside of specific character moments but now that they've gotten most of the flowery exposition out of the way I'm actually really satisfied with the storytelling here and I'm excitedly looking forward to when we get the next phase in a few days.

And so I, the Dreamwhisker, am dubbed:
Tumblr media
I'm kidding, I named her Papra (Maltese for duck).
But let's ignore the narrative in favor of the new game mechanics.
So far they gave us a Jump button, for battle and navigation purposes. Works for the new S yoyo battlesuit, that's for sure.
I also can't help but notice certain game mechanics that are awfully familiar.
Tumblr media
And eye-searing to skim. (yeah, you pick these books up with the same icon and action)
There's also the exploration mechanic reminiscent of the Four-Leaf Sigil in Genshin Impact.
And of course,
Tumblr media
Boy, I wish characters could also just deposit primos into my player's hand like that. It makes every transaction seem like they're rooting for me to win the 50/50.
I think the only thing I found noteworthy was a cute lil Scottish Terrier summoning two things that looked like Necromorph heads.
And that's really the impression left behind on MHY vet players who've played all three games, gameplay wise.
I actually ignored the main story just to see if people can speed through it with the Skip button and still enjoy themselves.
Pretty much? You get to try the three battlesuits without having to go through the tutorial. I just played it by ear and still won bc there was no time limit. I also didn't use the Assist button more than once.
For better or for worse, part two's graphics have improved, they got rid of the Soulium farming requirement (thank God!), Co-Op is probably going to be Battle Realms from now on, and it's not like the old Bridge is gone forever, you just switch out of the new one.
I just wonder if HYV wants to segue into APHO and Alien Space via Part 2, or rather prepare us for Tunaface to go MIA.
Then again, Part 2 seems to be going off on its own tangent where the protag has to rescue a random Marsverse from a Game Over using inexplicit time travel shenanigans.
I feel like I'm watching that X-Men movie again.

Context:
So just before the update came out I was in a sweet shop and found this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A yo-yo with nuggets of chewing gum in.
There were 3 kinds and I picked the neon style pink and blue. They don't tell you the flavour, just that it's fruit. Pink tastes a little like watermelon but not in a bad way (as a person who doesn't like watermelon) and the blue is probably blue raspberry or something. Following playing I had this come to mind and spent 3 days on and off at it.
Unfortunately it has been no help in Sena summons.
Tumblr media
(just many many Helias. But I like Helia so I'm cool lmao)

(spoiler-free discussion of HI3rd Part 2)
So I finally got to catch up w/ the previous chapter (moon shenanigans w/ Helia & Coralie) and dove right into HI3rd Part 2's release- and I've gotta say, I'm actually enjoying it quite a bit so far!
*Quick disclaimer, I'm playing with CN voices, and the voice acting of a character can really influence a person's perception of them, so keep that in mind
So far each of the main cast we've met so far has been fairly likeable. I was unsure what Sena was gonna be like but so far she fits in quite well. She's got the same bubbly personality as Ely and March, but she has neither the pushy-ness that Ely has nor the snark March has. So she's definitely reminiscent of both of them but still feels like her own person, and since we literally just met her there's gonna be plenty of time for her character to develop.
Also really enjoyed the interactions with Helia and Coralie, it's clear that they're not super besties like Kiana & Mei but they're certainly close as comrades and I'd like to see how their dynamic develops! I'm looking forward to new battlesuits for them someday and I really hope Mihoyo follows through on that idea. I'd love to see how their adventures in the Sea of Data shape their world-view as they're challenged by things that Schicksal's Valk training never could've prepared them for.
and Dreamseeker was quite nice, too! They're not a silent protag, though of course the quasi-self-insert thing does make it a bit more awkward than usual. But overall their presence doesn't really affect the story in a negative way so that's no concern at all, and they contribute to the team a fair bit in terms of both knowledge/wisdom as well as how they interact with other characters and move the conversation forward. They're not super bubbly nor are they cold, they're just ordinary in a charming way, if that makes sense?
and then Songque... ooooohhh lord she was a LOT more than I bargained for in so many ways. in a good way, I think? >.> either way, not gonna say much about her because I don't even know how to begin describing her. I just wasn't expecting her to be so... lively. Like, crazy energetic, in a very controlled-chaos sorta way.
Also in terms of worldbuilding/lore I think it's been handled quite well. It doesn't rely on obscure knowledge from Part 1, i.e. not technobabble-heavy, but if you're familiar with stuff like the workings of the Sea of Quanta then it's easy to see how things are working behind the scenes.
It's a super fascinating concept for a setting and I really like the juxtaposition of past/present as well as how the story seems to fully embrace the chaotic nature of the Sea of Quanta, giving us really strange and unusual sights and writing characters who are born into this strange reality and take it for granted.
Oh. and the new music. pretty good so far! it's nothing at the level of Genshin but that's a really high bar to pass anyways. For HI3rd's standards it's solid work and enjoyable enough to listen to while playing the story & fighting. I have a lot of other thoughts about HI3rd's music as a whole but that's a whoooole other story lol
so yeah. Part 2 released, and HI3rd didn't suddenly combust into flames and explode. So far so good, hard to say how it'll change going forward but there's not much of a point in worrying about that yet. My only regeret is I had to skip 2/3rds of the Fu Hua arc for this because of issues w/ my schedule and how busy I've been, but I think it was the right call cause I'm really looking forward to the new Part 2 story, both main story & side content!

Long paragraph about hi3 part 2 coming up.
Okay I'll admit, hi3 part 2 is exceeding expectations (considering my expectations were literally below the ground bc there's no way it would measure up to part 1) but so far I think the new characters are cute and the story is fine. I've seen people complain about how the new characters don't look "honkai enough" but 1) sena and dreamchaser aren't from earth 2) helia and coralie look like apho era valkyries to me, remember this is all after a time skip of some sort so ofc they won't look like the old valk's we're used to. I do have some gripes about the supposed "self-insert" mc though. It's weird okay, it's weird as fuck that after all these years of having a proper character as the mc we just switch to someone that we can name and choose the gender of and everything? But also the dreamchaser acts like their own character? Which sort of defeats the purpose of having a self insert mc doesn't it?? So like, why not just make them their own character? Other than that though, there's the stuff that always plagues hi3, the meta is gonna change, old favorites will become outdated, all of these characters are new and I have no connections to them, blah blah blah. Part 2 is fine, and it's still honkai just a different kind of honkai, something much newer and much more inspired by the other hoyo games. I think the trio of part 2 still follows the kiana, mei, bronya formula which is cute, and the new mc is a nice addition to the formula that doesn't overlap any of the other character's positions but also isn't an eyesore that clashes with everyone else (if im being honest, the dreamchaser sort of fills seele's role if seele was more actively in the main trio's friend group).
I am still just in the prologue so all of this is subject to change (but i doubt part 2 will suddenly change in any major way after the prologue, we'll see) but yeah that's my opinion so far on part 2 of hi3. Obviously sucks on some level that a beloved game has changed so much in so little time but everything gets upgrades now and then. It's also been clear since the end of part 1 that the passion project feel of hi3 is over, that farewell to kiana was more of a farewell to the story this game was made for.
