I am chewing Rue like bubble gum. They believe in the power of love, but practice it in a way that is ultimately selfish and based on their own experiences, with very little consideration for the repercussions of their actions.

I am dribbling Hob like a basketball. He believes wholly in the selflessness of duty and obligation as redemption. But he practices it in a way that gives no consideration for the repercussions to himself.

They are the same they are opposites they a two people looking at each other in a mirror and never able to embrace because each attempt is matched perfectly by the figure on the other side of the glass, blocked in the attempt to invite.

So Hob took off his military jacket to show his broken allegiance to the goblin court. Since fashion is kind of Rue’s thing - what if Hob starts wearing pretty dresses to show his loyalty to Rue???

Okay but what if Rue didn’t overhear Hob and Sylmenar, and Hob and Sylmenar got married and Rue thinks Hob got their letter and his answer was apparent from his marriage to someone else

What if at the next Bloom, Rue is stuck in polite small talk with Lady Sylmenar and makes an off handed comment about ‘you must have trouble holding on to keepsakes, Hob must eat all of them’

And Lady S is so confused, because Hob has never eaten anything she gave him, and Rue notices this and THATS HOW THEY FIND OUT IT WASNT A LOVE MATCH

(also if Lady S is totally chill and like trying to set them up, like ‘you know he doesn’t even live in the house, he lives in a cottage on the grounds, he just grows peonies and eats them’ 👀)
