There's a reason why Colin Firth is forever known as Mr. Darcy above all other roles he's had and will have! Even ignoring the wet white shirt, which has become A Thing now, he is so hot with his curly hair and his little half smiles and his intense looks of longing and his legs that go on for milessss.
Post Poll Addition* The reason Mr Darcy (2005) didn't have any propaganda and Mr Darcy (1995) did is because someone actually sent me 95 propaganda and not because I was trying to make Colin Firth win! I asked for propaganda pre-poll and people assumed the Darcy's would sail through so that text was all I got for either of them - it's not my fault the '05 girlies did not find the tournament in time to send any in!!!!! This was the same in a few other polls in the early rounds of the tournament. Sorry for sounding off a bit about it but I don't add any of my own propaganda so I stay impartial so it's just frustrating to be accused of the opposite. Anyway I hope that clears that up :))
Some Firth!Darcy propaganda for the @hotjaneaustenmenpoll
Look at him running down the stairs while still getting dressed in order to properly welcome Elizabeth (whom he hasn't seen since the *proposal incident*).
how did you vote on the mean poll? interested parties want to know!
Darcy! Followed by immediate regret!
I was trying to be reasonable? Objective? I was trying to respect the lake and the legacy but the answer is Wentworth, it will always be Wentworth, Ciaran Hinds specifically as Wentworth. I betrayed myself and the integrity of this poll.
The @hotjaneaustenmenpoll tournament has inspired me to finally write this post, this more than a post, this bit of FUNDAMENTAL Austen adaptation research.
It is well known that there was a Mansfield Park adaptation in 2007, for which the reception went from "eh?" to "huh?", but what most people around here probably don't know, is that this was the cover for the DVD release in Spain:
And you'll naturally ask, who is that handsome blonde man on the right? He definitely isn't Michelle Ryan, we know what she looks like.
He's Baddeley. The butler. The butler at Mansfield Park. Emma's 2020 class commentary this, and Emma 1996 (ITV) social commentary that, but has any of them put a servant on the cover? Thought so. And people have the gall of calling this a bad, unfaithful adaptation :P
So, in honor of Baddeley and his being the only servant I can think of in the Austen canon of whom we have some pov writing, and what is better, that pov is inner snarky thoughts about Mrs Norris, let's have every time Baddeley shows up in MP 2007, witnesses iconic events, and wins his spot on the DVD cover.
Here we have Baddeley serving some refreshments during Henry and Mary's first visit to Mansfield:
Here we have him also serving some wine to sir Thomas during the very awkward dinner that followed his return from Antigua:
Here we have Baddeley making sure Fanny's special picnic goes perfect:
That includes making sure nobody is dying of thirst (dancing is a very taxing activity!):
Here we have him at the zenith moment of his telling Mrs Norris that she's not wanted:
Evil never rests, and neither does Baddeley's commitment to keeping people hydrated, in this case, during a mouth-drying reading of Shakespeare by Henry:
Sometimes Baddeley's work involves improvising, and taking on jobs others would have considered beneath their title, such as carrying Edmund's bags:
Or helping sir Thomas get out of his traveling coat:
But this also has its rewards, as door watch duty allows him to witness the moment sir Thomas yeets Mrs Norris out of Mansfield:
Alas, in a clear commentary on the class issues of the regency era, despite his relevance to the plot and constant presence at life turning moments of the family, he was not invited and nowhere to be seen at Edmund and Fanny's wedding, while absolute strangers got to witness the momentous occasion instead.
Baddeley, friend, don't be sad. You were there, in our hearts.
Thanks to @hotjaneaustenmenpoll I decided to watch Persuasion (1995) for the millionth time this weekend, and inspired me to create some propaganda on why you should vote for Captain Wentworth as the Hottest Austen Man:
Anne's face the moment she saw him after eight years screams "Oh, no, he is hot!" and she is right.
He makes one snarky comment towards Anne and immediately shows a regretted puppy face, because he realized he can't hurt her in any way. Gentleman as it finest.
Life of the party charms the pants off anyone. Not literally, except for Anne.
Mister "I don't care about Anne", but will gladly listen to anything other people has to say about her and won't stand seeing her struggle in anyway. Pure gentleman behavior.
Also, will give deadly stares to the men that approach Anne in a romantic manner.
Ciaran Hinds in a Marine Uniform. Even Lady Dalrymple said he looked fine as hell in that uniform.
The letter with that voice, perfection.

The yearning and longing on his eyes is worthy of an Oscar, this man embodies that character perfectly.
I know you love Darcy, I do too, but that is the obvious choice; Wentworth is as good as he is (if not even more).
The scene in the book is great but I love the way they filmed this in this adaptation. I’ve seen this fifty million times and each time I feel this moment. So many things to love about Knightley here. It’s not just that he rescues a girl from social humiliation. It’s the modest, good-humoured way in which he does it, foregrounding her joy and comfort. He talks to her, engages her, smiles, so that she doesn’t feel like she’s being condescended to or pitied. But it’s also that he repairs Emma’s mistake. It was Emma’s series of blunders that walked Harriet into this moment, and Knightley repairs it. She doesn’t need to ask him to do it. He’s just there, dependably present and aware. (Like he is aware what an uncomfortable gift the pianoforte was for Jane for example). Just such a lovely guy to have as a partner.
We have just stumbled across @hotjaneaustenmenpoll, which I think fills the brief of judging who the hot fictional British men are (that we banned from this bracket for not being relevant enough to the wars)
Some (unconventional) Jonny Lee Miller!Knightley propaganda for the @hotjaneaustenmenpoll.
Notice how he avoids saying that Mr. Elton has got engaged in front of Harriet, frowns uneasily when Miss Bates blurts it out, and discreetly hands Harriet his handkerchief in the end.
I found some Mr. Palmer propaganda for the @hotjaneaustenmenpoll. The first vid shows his biting wit, the second (with a slight overlap) shows him aiding Elinor when Marianne falls ill. I especially want to call attention to the 5:17 minute mark in the second vid -- Mr. Palmer in a loosened shirt answering the door. :)
tagged by @weidli and @tinypi so that's peer-pressure right there
last song: sweat (live from the royal albert hall) - ry x. (this whole album is fantastic and so beautiful1)
favorite color: cobalt blue 💙
currently watching: just finished S2 of The Bear which my brother was very keen for me to watch (i enjoy the bear and i think it's really good but watching it is also feels kinda like pulling teeth). and rewatching 2009 Emma cuz of the @hotjaneaustenmenpoll
sweet/savoury/spicy: first choice is savoury but one of my favourite things is when savoury meals have a sweet component (mango curry, duck with peach or plum sauce, recently i made a potato gratin with apple slices in it). i can eat spicy things if i have to but i don't enjoy it as a flavour
relationship status: lost to the horrors
current obsession: i feel like i've been incredibly all over the place the past few months but i appear to be having a horror movie moment spurred by watching Evil Dead, so i'm rewatching some horror movies I enjoy and listening to podcasts etc.
last thing you searched: sooo i still play sims 2 and one of my sims has A Case Of The Genders so i was looking for some teen male skirt CC. i found this mesh and made a quick lil' leather skirt recolour of it for my boy Isaac/Izzy. they look so cute!

If you're wondering why you should vote for Wentworth 95 in the @hotjaneaustenmenpoll, it's because he's got something hot for everyone.
Do you think it's hot when a man dresses up fancy? He looks very dapper in his uniform! Or do you find it more sexy when a man is more casual, a little mussed up, maybe even a little grimy? He does that perfectly too!
Do you find men hot when they're being tender and restrained? Or do you find men hot when they're losing control a bit, maybe getting a bit passionate with anger or jealousy?
Do you like a refined man of culture? Or a rugged outdoorsman?
A warm smile? Or something more broody?
Someone who's the life of the party, boisterous, laughing, charming? Or the strong silent type, serious, calm, mysterious?
Ciaran Hinds's Wentworth does all of these sexy things brilliantly! You cannot lose with him, he's got it all!
I don't know if it's on you radar but blake ritson is currently in two of the hotjaneaustenmenpolls and seeing him without his oscar moustache gave me such a jump scare (somehow even without the stache he is winning one of the two)
i have not been paying attention to those but i will go look! 👀
