Early days of WordPress websites

Back in 2004, WordPress websites got their first big upgrade with version 1.0, named "Miles" after the cool jazz musician Miles Davis. Released on 3rd January, this update brought some awesome features that made the platform way better. It introduced a new templating system, so users could create their own custom themes and styles, giving them more control over their site's look. The admin interface also got a major makeover, making it super user-friendly with easier post editing, better user role management, and smoother navigation.
One of the most exciting additions was the introduction of plugins. Just like how Apple’s app store changed the game for the iPhone, WordPress plugins let third-party developers add all sorts of cool features and tools. This made WordPress super flexible and perfect for more than just blogging. Plus, it opened up opportunities for developers and designers to make a living by creating and selling plugins and themes.
Fast forward to today, and there are nearly 60,000 free plugins on the WordPress.org repository, along with loads of paid options. WP Engine estimated the WordPress ecosystem's value at a whopping $635 billion by the end of 2021. This shows just how massive and valuable the platform has become for users and developers alike, with the plugin market playing a huge role in making WordPress a powerful and adaptable tool for creating websites.

A More Personal Sort of Ramble
Hi. Let's talk about 2023.
It has, actually, been a while since I sat down and did one of these types of posts, so forgive me if I'm a little rusty. Or, if we're being honest with ourselves, Twitter threads, since it's actually been so long that it dates back to the time my main online presence outside of the WordPress blog was actually on that godforsaken cesspit of a website.
(Now, of course, we have upgraded to *this* godforsaken cesspit of a website.)
So this year has been... a lot. For once in my life, however, I don't actually mean "a lot" in a negative sense. On the contrary, this year has, to put it bluntly, probably seen me at the happiest I have been since my depression really started to kick in in earnest back in 2015.
There are the obvious indicators we can point to, namely the fucking insane traction that the blog has gained. A little under 2400 views in a year may be peanuts to some, but when you consider that that's very nearly equal to the amount of views my site gained across the entirety of 2017 to 2022, it's a level of growth that I couldn't be happier with.
And part of that growth has been the migration to Tumblr, which went far better than I could have ever hoped for. In all honesty I probably should have come here sooner, given the generally more blogging-supportive ecosphere that exists, but it's better late than never I suppose.
More importantly, though, I wrote a lot, and was actually very happy with much of what I wrote. 2023 has been the first year where I can honestly say that I didn't immediately feel disdain for a post upon hitting Publish, and I can't overstate how huge that feels.
And really, that's what this year has been about. I am not in the habit of airing every part of my personal life these days in the way I did back in 2020 or 2021, for the simple reason that my audience has expanded well beyond the few devoted online acquaintances I had back in those days. Suffice it to say, however, that I am doing very well, and I am happy in my own skin for the first time in a very long while. I have dreams for the future that can actually qualify as, well, dreams, as opposed to general dread-filled nightmares and apocalyptic visions that'd make Frank Black blush.
And through it all, there's been my audience, who I genuinely consider to be one of the best small corners of the Internet. I'd like to take credit for the vibes not being abysmal, but the truth is... the bulk of that credit belongs with you folks, not me. So thank you, genuinely.
As with most of these longposts, there's the self-serving Ko-fi plug to get through; it can be found here, as always. Even if my hope of actually making some money from these scribblings of mine remains a far-flung dream, however, rest assured that I'm not going to stop any time soon. We might have finished the bulk of the Virgin stuff, but we're only just beginning to wade into the BBC Books years, and I hope you'll stick around with me to see what the future holds for Dale's Ramblings in 2024 and beyond.
Thank you all for being simply incredible. You're all damn fine people, and I'm forever glad to have your readership.

2024 You Were Mostly Shit, But I Learned A Few Things
I don’t really like doing New Year’s resolutions, for a few reasons. A. I don’t see the new year as the beginning of something. Yes, it’s a chance to reflect, but there’s nothing “new” about the year apart from the year I’m printing on forms. B. I save resolutions for when I get depressed. Even then, it’s not really resolutions, it’s more like goal setting. When I get depressed, I feel like I don’t see a way out. Setting goals helps me to keep going even if I feel bad.
That being said, I don’t mind self-reflecting on the previous year. So with that…
Things I realised in 2024
I miss writing. I found this blogging platform Micro-blog thanks to Zoyander Street. WordPress is becoming a lot more feature rich, but at a price. I couldn’t justify spending £20 a month on blogging, but £7? Yes, please. I already have my own Mastodon instance and my own Peertube instance. With that in mind…
Again, thanks to Zoyander Street, I found a name for the practice I’ve been pointing myself to regarding social media, namely POSSE. You can’t just remove yourself from popular social media apps without impacting your reach. But you can focus on creating a space that’s your primary base. That’s what my website is.
2024 was a lot about waiting. Waiting or my bariatric surgery. I’ve been on a steady decline since needing to have my lap band removed in 2021 due to slippage. Since I had surgery in October 2024, I’m 68 pounds (ca. 31 kg) down, with about 119 pounds (ca. 54 kg) to go to get into a “healthy” range. But I’m getting there.
How old I am. So much of the things I grew up with are fading away. The biggest realisation is a funny one, in Phil Collins (but I’m guessing not for him). Collins was a constant in the music of my life. Collins is 73. He retired from music in 2022, and the recent documentary shows how frail he is.
youtube
It really set in stone how much time, even if I’m not struck away with some disease, that old age is close. There are no constants in life. I’m about 16 years younger than Collins. Yesterday I had a concert of his on YouTube pop up from 1997. I remember 1997.
youtube
The concert from the Live and Loose tour in Paris has him dancing and smiling and being the Phil Collins I remember. The Collins in the Drumeo documentary is the harbinger of what is to come. For everyone, but especially for me.
I have more years behind me, than I do in front of me. Nik, my son, is in his 30s now. He’s got his life, and he’s making the most of it. I’m very proud of the man he’s become. I don’t intend on sounding like this is the end for me (or hell, even for Phil). Even if the bells aren’t ringing for me yet, I can hear them in the distance. It reminds me to always keep myself in the moment. I’m grateful for all the wonderful moments I’ve had so far, and am ready for more.
This year I got married to my wife. She really doesn’t realise how much that she means to me. I think that’s probably more my fault than hers. It’s hard unlearning 50 years of taking care of others and letting someone in to see you and take care of you. She doesn’t think she does that, but she really does. I am truly grateful for her love. Finding Marcele was at the right time, it allowed me to be the best version of myself that I know how to be.
I feel like 2025 will bring plenty of changes to my life as well. Marcele will finally be home, and we can start building a life together. I’m sure I’ll continue to lose weight. If I lose weight at the same rate I’m losing now, I’ll be at goal in June. There’s a lot to look forward to. 2024 felt like I was running in place, waiting for surgery. Now it feels like I can do things that will improve my life. I’m hopeful for 2025.

How to Improve the Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) on WordPress
Optimize Images
In WordPress, one of the maximum not unusual motives for low LCP rankings is the usage of big photo record sizes. High-resolution snap shots are lovely, however they absorb a number of area. Heavy pix can quickly emerge as a burden when we talk approximately website performance and the PageSpeed score.
Optimizing your photos is the first-class answer to this trouble. This can be achieved both before or after the files are uploaded to WordPress.
Compression is essential for image optimization. Depending at the compression method you use, the system might also have a small impact on the quality of the photo, but it could substantially lessen the dimensions of the document and the time it takes to load.

Caching pages accelerate server reaction time and reduces TTFB, for this reason enhancing LCP. Caching plugins for WordPress, including WP Rocket, Perfmatters, NitroPack, WP Fastest Cache, and WP Super Cache, provide a simple and intuitive interface for all varieties of caching. These plugins permit caching in your internet site quickly.
Lastly, make sure that the browser can effectively cache files. Set the right Expires, Last-Modified, and/or ETag hashes inside the HTTP header to prevent the equal record from being requested for time and again.
Optimize JavaScript and CSS
Your pages will load more slowly in case you load JavaScript and CSS before the number one site content material. If you lessen the range of resources in your web site that hinder CSS and JavaScript, the page’s primary content material will load faster.
CSS @import statements block rendering and cargo patterns sequentially. You must consequently avoid them.
Concatenate or minify CSS and Javascript documents, and cast off CSS that isn't being used. Optimize your site’s code to deal with the PageSpeed tip “Avoid chaining crucial requests.”
Implement asynchronous and deferred functionality.
Leverage lazy loading
Since lazy loading is used, files that are outdoor of the visible region are not loaded whilst the page is first loaded. This effects in a length discount of the web page that is notably more, as not all photographs load on the equal time. Photos load because the person scrolls down the web page, bringing them into view as they achieve this (or just earlier than they arrive into view).
This method is specially critical for web sites that host a variety of YouTube motion pictures or different media content material. This is due to the fact films and different functions that use a whole lot of assets, like integrated Google Maps, need this method.
Lazy loading is when photographs on a web page handiest load as soon as a user scrolls down to them, allowing you to reap LCP at a faster price. You can do that with plugins which includes WP Rocket.
Enable Server-Level Compression
Enable GZIP compression to your server to make your WordPress website paintings better with distinct server settings.
Use the unfastened Check GZIP Compression or HTTP Compression Test device to determine if your website helps GZIP compression.
If your server doesn’t have GZIP compression, you can add it with a plugin for WordPress like WP Rocket or W3 Total Cache.
Implement Preconnect in WordPress
“Preconnect,” tells browsers to installation an HTTP connection to an external domain related from your page earlier than they may be requested to. So, it shall we the browser set up a connection early earlier than the HTTP request is despatched. This eliminates spherical-ride latency and shortens the time you need to wait.
Thus, preconnect is a essential optimization tool for WordPress webmasters. Most current browsers support Preconnect.
You can join resources like scripts (jQuery and Google Analytics), stylesheets (font files from Google Fonts and 1/3-party web sites), and media files. WP Rocket affords a way to add preconnect.
Utilize a CDN
A content shipping community (CDN) is a incredible manner to improve the way your internet site handles site visitors. A CDN uses greater servers to assist the foundation server when there is a lot of site visitors. This era is usually used by larger web sites with a variety of everyday site visitors.
Due to the truth that requests from traffic do not have to queue up on the equal server, CDNs can assist improve LCP. So, the LCP rating might be quicker, which could enhance the user experience standard.
It is also viable to add software including an photograph CDN that optimizes and adjusts picture sizes in actual time to a CDN’s capabilities. This can assist a media-heavy website display its content material more fast.
Visitors to web sites that use CDNs don’t must depend on a unmarried server to get content. They are made up of many servers that are spread out internationally and help send files like photos, films, audio, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to all network servers.
Some WordPress CDN vendors, like Bunny.Net, Sucuri, Cloudflare, and KeyCDN, permit you to distribute cached static website content based totally on in which your visitors are within the global. If you’re looking for a device to create enticing and effective quizzes for your WordPress site, take a look at out Quiz Maker WordPress. It lets in you to create your personal quiz and questions with a responsive layout that your users will love.
How to Improve First Input Delay Scores on WordPress?
Less than one hundred milliseconds is recommended for the FID time. Therefore, if it takes any longer than that for your web site, your consumer experience (UX) might be suffering due to it.
Most probable, your FID will get higher if you optimize your JavaScript, that's one of the first-rate methods to do it. There are several ways to try this.
Minimize or Defer JavaScript
The response speeds of browsers can be speeded up by using delaying the execution of JavaScript. A deferred JavaScript activity will be done by means of net browsers after the rendering of an entire web web page has been completed. The FIDs of non-essential JavaScript approaches may be advanced thru deferring, and this may be done without impacting the person enjoy of the page.
Doing so will permit visitors to engage along with your website at the same time as its JavaScript is still loading inside the browser. You can do that by means of the use of a plugin inclusive of Async JavaScript, WP Rocket, or W3 Total Cache.
Eliminate Non-Essential Third-Party Scripts
Another way you can enhance FID is via eliminating any unnecessary 1/3-birthday party scripts. Too many scripts can clog your network and result in slower reaction instances.
There can be a postpone in web page load time if a 3rd-birthday celebration script that adds functionality to websites, inclusive of live chat, marketing, and analytics, is used. Third-birthday celebration code could make it difficult to ship too many community queries to exclusive vendors for large JavaScript jobs or photo documents.
You might also run a PageSpeed Insights check for your website to peer how your third-birthday celebration scripts are appearing. Third-party sources that have been loaded, in addition to their switch length and predominant thread blocking off time, may be viewed here.
Third-birthday celebration scripts may be loaded greater fast the use of async and deferred attributes. If you do this, you gained’t need to address the problem of rendering blockage, and the web page will load faster. Async and defer are reserved for external scripts. Therefore, essential web page loading scripts need to not use those functions.
Implement browser caching
Make use of the browser’s cache to cut down on load time and site visitors on the community. The neighborhood copies of static belongings which have been cached take less time to load the web page’s content than the originals. It is usually going to be quicker to get a aid out of your local cache than it's far going to be to download it from the net. Your FID score will enhance because of caching as it makes it feasible in your browser to run quicker even when loading JavaScript.
How to Improve Cumulative Layout Shift Scores on WordPress
When page elements change because the page masses, the CLS is typically raised, which is horrific. Your CLS ought to ideally not exceed 0.1. If it's miles greater than that, you may take measures to enhance it.
Specify Image imensions
Layout shifts are more likely to appear in case you add media assets with unknown attributes. This is due to the fact your internet browser wishes to discern out the image size and format orientation after the photo has loaded. This is because the layout of the photo needs to be determined after the photo has loaded. These sorts of occurrences are more likely to take region with big pictures and documents that have a high decision.
You have made the task of the net browser a long way greater hard by uploading media documents which can be missing their size parameters. Every unmarried submitted visual media report wishes to have each the height and width parameters stuffed in by means of you. Adding the width and peak residences to your supply code in a manual style is one manner to perform this intention.
Optimize Web Fonts
When you operate internet fonts, the format of a web page can exchange, which may be horrific for the consumer. It’s a measure of how long it takes for fonts to load. Flash of Unstyled Text (FOUT) and Flash of Invisible Text (FOIT) are each possible occurrences.
For instance, textual content on a web page may be “now not-so-accurate” in style, as an instance (FOUT). The custom font takes some time to load. In the meantime, the fallback font can be displayed. The default font will get replaced after the custom font is finished. When this happens, the website’s typeface will trade, and the textual content will necessarily trade as well.
Alternatively, there can be a postpone earlier than any text is shown because of the reality that the custom font is still loaded (FOIT). If you want to peer the web page’s content, you should wait till the custom fonts are rendered. When this content material is completed loading, it could motive the format to alternate.
Plugins like WP Rocket can automatically optimize internet fonts like Google Fonts or any third birthday party fonts inclusive of bubble fonts. Load internet fonts and set CSS font-display to optional or switch. Ensure you use a further-sized fallback font to limit the format shift.
Finally, reduce web font utilization. Consider using generally to be had OS fonts whilst viable.
Avoid Dynamically ads
Advertisements are same to embeds, but they convey greater weight. Their significance stems from their big contribution to the CLS. Ads that take too lengthy to load motive a website to hop. There is a solution to this hassle.
Simply reserve space for these commercials within the code. When a website is in development, it additionally needs space for advertisements.
This region inside the code will ensure that the commercial’s content masses well. It will not have an effect on users in any way.
Placement is a essential attention while handling classified ads. Typically, including commercials to the pinnacle viewport reasons a vast movement.
Reserve a gap for embeds and iframes
Iframe dimensions have to also be blanketed. Embeds require dimensions in case you want to improve the person experience in your website.
These measurements must be covered whilst embedding Google Maps or any other video.
You’ll get higher consequences in case you use a stand-in. A placeholder is commonly used previous to embedding. Using constant-width iframes is a first-class exercise that should be followed.
Instead of the use of YouTube’s embedded code, you may use WP Rocket as a substitute.
Wrapping it up
Going via the above-mentioned steps helps you to degree and optimize the core internet critical score on your WordPress internet site. It will also help you to offer a higher user experience for your website site visitors. A properly consumer experience has a huge effect on search engine marketing, further to having an impact on the conversion charge and leap fee of your website.

On-Page SEO Tips for WordPress Websites in 2025

Search engine optimization (SEO) remains one of the most crucial components for achieving online visibility, especially as we move into 2025. The dynamic nature of search algorithms, coupled with advances in technology, necessitates a fresh look at how website owners should optimize their WordPress sites to stay ahead in rankings. On-page SEO, the process of optimizing individual web pages to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic, is at the heart of any successful SEO strategy.
WordPress, being one of the most popular content management systems (CMS) in the world, offers a host of tools and features that allow website owners to easily manage and optimize their content for search engines. In this article, we will discuss on-page SEO tips for WordPress websites in 2025, exploring the techniques that will help you improve your rankings and enhance your online presence.
1. Optimizing for User Intent and Semantic Search
In 2025, Google’s algorithms are more sophisticated than ever, focusing on understanding the intent behind users’ search queries. This shift toward semantic search means that simply targeting specific keywords is no longer enough. Instead, you need to focus on the broader context of your content and ensure that it answers the questions users are asking.
How to Optimize:
Understand User Intent: Analyze your target audience’s search behavior to understand their needs. Focus on creating content that addresses these needs comprehensively.
Use Related Keywords: Instead of keyword stuffing, use a variety of related keywords, synonyms, and long-tail keywords to give search engines more context about your content.
Answer Questions: Use FAQ sections, structured content, and headings that address common questions directly. Tools like Google’s People Also Ask can help you discover what your audience is searching for.
Optimizing for user intent and ensuring that your content is relevant to users’ search queries is essential for on-page SEO in 2025. WordPress users can leverage plugins like Yoast SEO or Rank Math to analyze and adjust their content based on these principles.
2. Optimize for Core Web Vitals
In 2021, Google introduced Core Web Vitals as a ranking factor, and its importance will only grow as we move into 2025. Core Web Vitals are a set of metrics designed to measure user experience in terms of loading speed, interactivity, and visual stability. Google prioritizes websites that offer fast, seamless experiences.
How to Optimize:
Use a Fast WordPress Theme: Choose a theme that is optimized for performance. Lightweight themes such as GeneratePress or Astra can greatly improve your website's speed.
Leverage Caching: Use caching plugins like WP Rocket or W3 Total Cache to speed up your site by creating static versions of your pages.
Optimize Images: Compress images using tools like Smush or ShortPixel to reduce their file size without sacrificing quality. Lazy loading (loading images only when they are needed) is also crucial for reducing load times.
Minimize JavaScript and CSS: Minimize the number of JavaScript and CSS files on your site to improve loading times. Plugins like Autoptimize can help by aggregating and minimizing these files.
Improving your site’s Core Web Vitals ensures a better user experience and higher rankings in 2025, making it a vital part of your on-page SEO strategy.
3. Mobile-First Optimization
Mobile-first indexing has been fully implemented by Google, meaning that the mobile version of your website is considered the primary version when indexing and ranking. In 2025, optimizing for mobile is not just an option—it’s a requirement.
How to Optimize:
Responsive Design: Ensure your WordPress theme is fully responsive and displays correctly on all screen sizes.
Improve Mobile Speed: Mobile users expect fast load times. Use Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test to check your site’s performance and make necessary improvements.
Optimize for Mobile UX: Make navigation easy on smaller screens by using clear, clickable buttons, a simple layout, and a mobile-friendly menu.
In 2025, having a mobile-optimized website is crucial to improving your user experience and rankings. As part of your SEO strategy in 2025, ensure that all aspects of your WordPress website are built with mobile-first principles in mind.
4. Create High-Quality, Engaging Content
Content remains king in 2025, but the focus is now on creating high-quality, engaging, and informative content that adds real value to your audience. Search engines like Google have become adept at distinguishing between content that offers value and content that merely exists to manipulate rankings.
How to Optimize:
Focus on Quality: Write detailed, informative articles that thoroughly address the topic. Aim for longer posts (1,500+ words) that dive deep into the subject matter.
Use Multimedia: Incorporate images, infographics, videos, and interactive elements into your posts to make them more engaging and visually appealing. WordPress’s Gutenberg editor makes it easy to add rich media to your content.
Update Older Content: Regularly update older posts to ensure that they remain relevant and accurate. This signals to search engines that your content is fresh and valuable.
Content should be created with your audience in mind, not just search engines. If you provide valuable, engaging information, your users will stay longer on your site, improving key metrics like dwell time, which will in turn improve your SEO rankings.
5. Optimize Title Tags and Meta Descriptions
Although SEO is shifting towards a more intent-based approach, title tags and meta descriptions remain key components of on-page optimization. These elements provide search engines and users with a quick overview of your page’s content and can significantly influence click-through rates.
How to Optimize:
Title Tags: Ensure your title tags are descriptive, concise, and contain your primary keyword. WordPress plugins like Yoast SEO can help you write effective title tags by providing recommendations.
Meta Descriptions: Write compelling meta descriptions that encourage users to click through to your website. Although meta descriptions don’t directly affect rankings, a higher click-through rate (CTR) can improve your search engine visibility.
Use Dynamic Titles and Descriptions: For websites with a lot of content (e.g., eCommerce sites), consider using dynamic title and meta descriptions generated from product names, categories, or keywords.
By optimizing your title tags and meta descriptions in 2025, you can increase your visibility and attract more visitors to your WordPress site.
6. Internal Linking and Site Structure
A well-organized site structure is crucial for both search engines and users. Internal linking helps Google crawl your site more effectively, while also keeping users engaged by guiding them to related content.
How to Optimize:
Use Descriptive Anchor Text: When linking to other pages within your site, use descriptive anchor text that includes relevant keywords.
Create a Logical Site Hierarchy: Ensure that your website has a clear hierarchy with categories, subcategories, and individual pages that are easy to navigate.
Add Internal Links to Every Post: Make sure each blog post or page links to other relevant content within your site. Tools like Link Whisper can help you find opportunities for internal linking.
By improving your internal linking structure, you ensure that search engines can easily navigate and index your website, leading to better rankings and user experience.
7. Schema Markup for Rich Snippets
In 2025, search engine results are no longer just a list of blue links. Rich snippets (enhanced search results that include additional information like ratings, prices, and images) are now a key feature of SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). Adding schema markup to your WordPress website can help you achieve these rich snippets, increasing your visibility and click-through rate.
How to Optimize:
Implement Schema Markup: Use plugins like Schema Pro or Rank Math to add schema markup to your WordPress site. Common schema types include product, review, recipe, and article.
Optimize for Featured Snippets: To increase your chances of appearing in Google’s featured snippets, structure your content to directly answer common questions, include bullet points, and provide concise definitions or summaries.
By implementing schema markup and targeting rich snippets, you can boost your visibility and gain more organic traffic in 2025.
8. Optimize for Voice Search
Voice search is growing rapidly, with more users relying on devices like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant to find information online. As voice search becomes more prevalent, optimizing your WordPress site for voice queries is crucial for staying ahead of the competition.
How to Optimize:
Target Long-Tail Keywords: Voice searches tend to be more conversational and question-based. Incorporate long-tail keywords and question phrases into your content.
Answer Questions Directly: Create content that answers specific questions succinctly, as this increases the likelihood of being featured in voice search results.
Focus on Local SEO: Many voice searches are local in nature (e.g., “best coffee shop near me”). Ensure your local SEO is optimized by including your business address, contact information, and location-based keywords.
Incorporating voice search optimization into your SEO strategy in 2025 will ensure that your WordPress website stays relevant as voice search continues to grow in popularity.
Conclusion
On-page SEO for WordPress websites in 2025 requires a strategic, user-focused approach. By optimizing for user intent, Core Web Vitals, mobile-first indexing, high-quality content, internal linking, and voice search, you can ensure that your website remains competitive in an increasingly complex digital landscape. Keep your focus on creating valuable, engaging content and continually improving the user experience, and you’ll be well-positioned for SEO success in 2025 and beyond.

This graphics purpose was to present a winning result from the National Rugby Leagues round 1 game of Cronulla Sharks vs New Zealand Warriors. Alignment was used by ensuring extra texts and caption boxes were reflective of each other. You could argue balance was provided by the scores of the final term having a balance of tones to easily view the winner of the game. Hierarchy can be shown by the image of Cronulla as the winning team covering the majority of the background to emphasise the excitement to the social audience.
The use of graphics when it comes to media production can provide a visual concept of view with a better understanding of the topic, with the sense of showing not telling. The simple uses of balance, contrast and alignment really make a graphic pop and stand out to an audience ( Rosin, 2017 ).
Technical skills learnt were how to create these sorts of promotional graphics for audiences and sponsors in relation to what the organisation provides and requires. In regards to supporting fan experiences, the graphic of a player's milestone game can invite more people to come to that special game to support the special player in the memorable moment and allow fans to really be a part of it.
Week 3 - Web Management
Through week 3 the teaching of how to make and manage a website was taught in order to enable business and media design to a smaller variety of audiences. Web management and designing a website prove crucial to a sporting organisation because without those websites of information it is difficult for fans and others to gain information about the organisation. Along the lines of this, importing graphics and textual elements to websites can also build an organisation's clicks and views to gain those graphics and know relevant information through imagery ( Orzan, 2021 )
Constantly adapting and updating a website's view and entertainment is a positive to websites as long as it's maintained.
From a fans perspective the web can be very important for them to keep up with news and also their favourite teams and organisations are progressing. A website's strength of being able to publish photos, videos and interviews allow the engagement towards them to grow.
Having to use the working of wordpress allowed a further insight into the making of webs
Week 4,5 - Audio recording and production
A podcast or audio recording product is a way of individuals to check in with recent and old discussions through listening rather than watching. This allows for a more mobile ability to listen and be entertained during everyday life whether it's going on a walk or being on a road trip.
During the weeks of this part of the assessment I learnt the recording and editing of an audio product and how there are many aspects to make it able and enjoyable to listen to. Using the audio room, remembering to stay close to the microphone, not breathing straight into the recording and how to keep a flowing and consistent conversation we’re important parts of the learning ( Scriven, 2022 ).
In terms of sporting organisations a club or player podcast can be a great way to promote themselves. The matter of making players and staffing engage with each other and promote to the audience they are just regular people who listeners can relate to impacts the success and likeliness that they will stay interested in the club and find funny implements.
From a business perspective the more engagement the recordings get the more popular and widespread they are likely going to become due to word of mouth and demanding interest.
Week 7 - Interview
youtube
Through the few weeks that we were learning about the interview process many features to make a successful interview were introduced. Important elements of who to interview along with talking points was a difficult part to adjust to as it was imminent that there were only questions asked and that the person being interviewed was the one doing majority of the speaking.
Things to note when interviewing someone for professional reasons is the rotation aspect, if there are two cameras they cannot be in a 360 rotation they should be 180. Preferring an already made manuscript to handover is a benefit to production allowing a non time wasting approach and a flowing interview ( Russel, 2022 ).

Starting Again
I'm hopping in the time machine and setting the dials to, well, anytime in the early to mid 2010s.
My very first blog post was in 2009. Actually in that post I said it was my 4th attempt at blogging.
I loved that place and for the next 6 years I wrote it regularly. It's actually a really good document of my wilderness years. Sculpture is both what I gained my degree in and my abiding love, but at that time in my life I'd convinced myself that sculpture wasn't viable for income. So began a journey.
Someone suggested Etsy in 2010 (I'd never heard of it) and I experimented with what I could sell - I tried prints, cards, original art, tiny sculptures, photography, and the thing that seemed to work the best for me, artist's books. Business was ok if not brisk, I sold quite a few and kept sculpture for the few exhibitions on the side.
Black Eyed Angel (I was a massive Radiohead fan back then - RIP to the goat) documented all my experiments and travails, what worked and what didn't, what I enjoyed and didn't, places I went, what inspired me. And I made many online friends too. We would often have long conversations over email, send each other snail mail and I even met a few in real life. On the side I kept a microblog on Tumblr too.
In 2015 I finally learned my way round Wordpress, set my website up and started blogging there. I'd given up my Etsy shop, Instagram was the new Flickr and people were no longer chatting on blogs anymore. I was taking printmaking classes and also setting up a home darkroom. I thought the future for me would be in the shape of an analog, black and white darkroom portrait business. Well, that tanked. Partly because I actually didn't enjoy it, and partly because most people would rather pay less and have digital portraits. I couldn't really compete. But I stumbled along anyway, frustrated with myself and my inability to stick to anything. Side note: in 2021 I found out I have adhd so I've learned to be much kinder to myself. But that's a story for another day.
Now we're up to 2017. Days locked in a darkroom, huffing toxic chemicals, hustling my butt off, frustrated and misguided and consuming ALL the advice online. But suddenly and unexpectedly I was diagnosed with breast cancer and my world collapsed. I documented my cancer experience on my blog but unfortunately the archive was deleted when I switched over to this site. I have the files on my laptop but they don't exist online for me to point you to if your interested. I might try to put them back online, one day.
After a harrowing period of my life and a very long recovery, we had a fricking pandemic. In the middle of this I decided to make a sculpture rather than perfect my sourdough or tiktok dancing. Cue heavenly choir. I'm back, baby!
Since then I've stuck my flag firmly in the sculpture soil. Is it hard to sell? Probably, but so is all art these days. I may as well be making what brings me deep joy, what I'm bloody good at, and where I truly find my voice.
And that brings me neatly round to blogging. I've noodled around Substack, I've tried microblogging on Instagram, none of which scratches the itch properly. I send long email newsletters but there's a limit to how much I can write before readers may potentially get bored and unsubscribe. So here I am. Birthing my blog 3.0 into the world, with no expectation but just to enjoy the process.
Welcome to my world. I can't say what to expect because I honestly don't know so if you want to join me while this unravels, I'm delighted. Let me know who you are, what makes you tick?

WordPress Plugins and Cybersecurity: What You Need to Know
Your website for your small business might benefit in many ways from the addition of plugins.
You can use them to make the loading time of your WordPress site faster, to make your content more shareable, to collect email addresses from visitors for use in your marketing list, and to perform better in search engine results. To add insult to injury, many of the very best WordPress plugins that can boost your website and your business blog are available at no cost.
It is essential to conduct research on the reliability and safety of any plugins you intend to use. Plugins are vulnerable to abuse since users can and do exploit them. In most cases, this is accomplished by inserting malicious scripts into plugins that have holes in their security.
What damage are these malicious scripts capable of causing? There is the possibility that the site might be taken over, spyware could be installed, and cryptocurrency mining could occur, in addition to the theft of consumer information and credit card data from online retailers.
This is not to imply that WordPress is a vulnerable platform. The researchers only discovered three flaws in the core program between January and July of 2021, and all of those flaws have now been addressed; however, because there are tens of thousands of plugins available from almost as many publishers, the chances of a security vulnerability occurring with plugins are larger than the chances of an issue occurring with the platform itself.
Is Your WordPress Plugin Open to Threats?
Choosing plugins is kind of like buying a car. You want performance, of course, but you also want something that’s safe, reliable, and easy to maintain. You choose a reputable car dealer and read reviews, so you don’t buy a lemon. You should get top-rated plugins from a reliable source so you don’t end up with a malicious plugin or one that has known security vulnerabilities.
Security experts consider WordPress.org’s plugin directory to be the safest source for plugins. With more than 59,000 plugins, you won’t run out of options, and the site solicits feedback and reviews from users.
Check those reviews before you download not just the star ratings but also the user feedback.
See what people like about the plugin. Read about any issues they’re having with the original plugin or updates. Get a sense of how well the publisher supports the plugin.
Also, check out the number of active installations to get a sense of how many users trust the plugin. A good plugin can have just a few hundred users, but a plugin with thousands of users has earned a lot of trust.
Hold on; I Thought My Web Host Was Responsible for That, Didn’t He?
Your website’s web host is responsible for a good deal of the server’s security, including both the physical and digital protection it provides for your website. There is a possibility that the security protections for your website are included in the hosting plan that you have selected. For instance, the Managed WordPress Hosting plans offered by Dollar2host include CodeGuard, which performs automated daily website backups; SiteLock, which scans your website for malware and removes it; and SpamAssassin, which prevents spam from being sent from email accounts associated with your domain.
You will save time thanks to these layers of protection, allowing you to focus on particular security needs for your website. These specific security needs include keeping your version of WordPress, your themes, and your plugins up to date, as well as ensuring that upgrades do not cause your website to become inaccessible (this is another reason why daily backups are so crucial).
Keep in mind that the safety precautions can differ depending on the web provider and the hosting plan. If you have any questions about the safety options provided by your plan, you should contact the customer service department for clarification.
Make sure everything is compatible with the most recent version of WordPress.
So, you’ve found a plugin that has a lot of users and has received positive ratings. Check to see if it is compatible with the version of WordPress that you are using before you download it. (For the sake of both security and performance, you should always make sure that your own website is using the most recent version of WordPress.)
You need to know the version of WordPress you’re using right now in order to test whether or not your plugins are compatible with it. You may locate it by navigating to the dashboard of your WordPress site and hitting the Updates tab. You will get a notification that informs you whether or not you are now operating the most recent version and provides the version number.
Maintain an up-to-date version of WordPress and all of your plugins.
WordPress and its plugins, like everything else written with code, receive regular updates that include new features, upgrades, and bug fixes. Sometimes, these issues manifest themselves as minor quirks that have an impact on the way a plugin looks or performs. Sometimes, these are vulnerabilities in the site’s security that need to be patched in order to prevent hackers from accessing the site.
Hackers are aware of any new security updates whenever publishers make the announcement. They then start looking for websites that haven’t implemented the fixes yet, and they frequently use bots that are able to scan large amounts of content rapidly and locate susceptible websites.
You still need to upgrade your WordPress installation and your plugins, even if you are satisfied with the most recent versions of both. You should make use of the feature that allows you to arrange WordPress and some plugins to update themselves automatically. Regarding the remaining aspects, you have a few alternatives available to you in order to stay up to date.
Create your own personalized update schedule manually.
If you are able to commit to monitoring your site for updated messages at least once a week, then this strategy has a chance of being successful. If you have a habit of putting off less important activities when you are busy, you should not follow this method. You run the risk of leaving your website open to attack.
It is recommended that you learn how to perform manual updates even if you ultimately decide against doing so. It’s normal to be concerned that installing an update would render your website inoperable, especially if the plugins you use haven’t been kept up to date to support the most recent version of WordPress. You should create a backup of your website before manually updating it, and you should also be prepared to delete the update if there are any issues.
You will go to your dashboard in the same way that you do when you check to see which version of WordPress you are currently using. To view the most recent updates, select the link labeled “Updates” in the left column. You’ll be able to view the update status for WordPress, as well as for any plugins and themes you use. You are able to bring any that are out of date up to date here.
Include a plugin for added safety. Wait, can you please explain why you require a security plugin?
A security plugin provides an additional layer of protection for your website by doing a scan of your website to identify potential vulnerabilities, such as outdated plugins and uninstalled WordPress updates, and by notifying you via email anytime your website is in need of an update.
You are still responsible for making the modifications. However, by doing so, you will not overlook any problems that may arise in the time between your regularly scheduled upgrades.
You have the option of adding a security service such as SiteLock to your website if the service is not already included in your hosting package. A daily malware scan, automated eradication of any malware that the scan finds, protection against bot attacks, and a content delivery network that automatically secures your website with the most recent TSL/SSL certificates are all included in the basic plan.
Other SiteLock security solutions provide protection against DDoS assaults, database scanning, firewalls for your online applications, and continuous malware scans as opposed to daily ones.
Configure the plugin to receive automatic updates.
Consider using the Easy Updates Manager plugin in the event that some of your plugins do not come with an automatic update feature. Plugin ception is, indeed, a plugin that will update your other plugins. You have the option of updating some, all, or none of your plugins automatically with the free version. This is the most effective method, particularly if you manage more than one website or a site that gets a lot of traffic and uses a number of different plugins.

What Happens to Customer Loyalty After an E-Commerce Site Data Breach?

One of your biggest concerns when running an e-commerce site through WordPress should be cybersecurity. Handling customers’ sensitive information — like home addresses and credit card numbers — means people will hold your business accountable in the event of a data breach. How do hacks affect customer loyalty, and how can you win them back after one occurs? The Fallout An e-commerce data breach is not good for a brand’s image. Following Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica scandal in 2018, just 28% of the site’s users believed the company was committed to privacy, down from a high of 79% the year prior. Overall, customer confidence in the social media giant fell by 66% because of the attack. Target experienced a significant decrease in consumer spending after its 2013 data breach. After cybercriminals stole millions of credit and debit card records from the retail store, customers were understandably wary about continuing to shop there. According to a report from Cisco, 22% of breached businesses lose customers, with 29% losing revenue as a result. Of the companies that take a financial hit, 38% part with over one-fifth of their earnings. Recovering from an e-commerce data breach can be especially costly because, in addition to the lost revenue, you must also pay a cybersecurity team to identify how the attack happened and devise a way to prevent future problems. It’s in your best interest to prevent a data leak altogether. How to Maintain and Regain Loyalty After a Breach Despite your best efforts, your business might still become a data breach victim. One of the best ways to retain your customers when this happens is to assure them you take security very seriously. Send your customers and investors an apologetic email letting them know what happened. In the message, detail the safety measures you’ll be implementing in response to this incident. Strong website security includes several components. Only Collecting Necessary Data The less customer data you handle, the lower the likelihood of misplacing it. Take only what you need. Additionally, you should inform people that your site uses cookies and give them the chance to opt out. Explain which types of information your website stores and how you use it. Informing people about your use of their data creates a relationship of transparency and trust. Depending on your geographic location, laws like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) may even mandate it. Implementing MFA Multifactor authentication (MFA) prompts people to use a one-time code — usually texted to their phone or sent in an email — alongside their username and password when logging in. In 2021, 79% of people reported having used MFA when logging in to websites. Although it presents a slight inconvenience to anyone in a hurry, MFA is a massive roadblock for would-be hackers. Even if a threat actor steals someone’s login credentials, they would also have to hack into their email account or cellphone to log in to your site. It’s a highly effective technique. MFA is a visible security measure showing customers you care about their safety. Using the TLS Protocol Use the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol to make your website even more secure. It secures the connection between your servers and clients’ computers. A customer’s data goes where it says it’s going, cannot go anywhere else and can’t be intercepted. Some computers won’t even let users visit unsecured sites — the screen will tell people the website is unsecured and prompt them to go back. Sites with a TLS certificate display a padlock symbol next to the URL, putting visitors’ minds at ease. Monitoring Network Activity Security software like Security Ninja can alert you to any suspicious activity on your site. For example, the software will notify you if someone tries to log in from a new device or a different location. You can also get alerts if people try to make unusually large purchases. Keeping an eye on network traffic makes you more likely to notice a potential data breach before things get out of hand. Be Honest Let customers know exactly how the data breach occurred, who it affected and how your actions led it to happen in the first place. Explain its true scope and severity. Above all, do not try to cover the data breach up. In addition to losing customer loyalty if people find out, you may also face steep legal fees, as Uber found out in 2018 when it paid a $148 million settlement for trying to hide one. Honesty is the best course of action. Regrouping After an E-Commerce Data Breach Although a data breach will almost certainly affect customer loyalty, it isn’t necessarily a disaster. Eventually, as people learn to trust your business again, you’ll start earning the loyalty of new customers and even regaining some of your old ones. The best thing to do immediately after a breach is to assure people you’re taking strong security measures — and then implement them. Be honest about the incident and apologize to everyone it affected. With any luck, improving your cybersecurity will prevent future issues and you’ll be back on track to having a loyal customer base. The Future of Blogging: Will it Survive or Die?
Blogging is a form of media that has been around for quite a few years now. But the future of blogging might be hard to predict, as we have seen it change and evolve so many times.
There was a time when most bloggers started their journey toward becoming a blogger by joining forums or guest posting on other sites.
Nowadays, bloggers can make money with their blogs too; in fact, they can earn much more than they were able to make earlier — because they can publish online courses as well!
The Current State of Blogging
Today, blogging has become an integral part of any marketing strategy in many types of business. It has many uses, such as engaging with customers, building brand awareness, and increasing website traffic.
His current state is described as growth and innovation. Bloggers are using new technologies to create more engaging content, while platforms like WordPress make it easier for anyone to start a blog.
As more people become comfortable with the idea of blogging, they are changing how they think about it.
In the early years of blogging, writers were producing content only for social or informational purposes.
But today, they consider it as a kind of online business. Others, who have built successful blogging businesses and become profitable with their projects, have begun to create blogs as advertising and marketing channels to promote their products/services and grow their businesses that’s why, according to Content Marketing Institute, 71% of marketers are considering content marketing, especially blogging, an important element to their organizations.

Factors that Will Affect the Future of Blogging
social media
In recent years, social media has completely revolutionized how we communicate, share information, and connect. In addition, according to Statista, social media users reached 4.8 billion in 2023. As a result, it’s no surprise that this trend is also impacting blogging.
However, many bloggers use social media to promote their content, engage with their readers, and build their brands. Social media can be a powerful tool for bloggers to increase their reach, attract new readers, and grow their websites.
With the apparition of Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, users can easily prefer more visual content of information and entertainment, such as images and infographics due to being shorter.
Also, social media can be a source of inspiration for bloggers. By following influencers and thought leaders in their niche, bloggers can stay up to date on trends and developments and find new topics and ideas to write about. Similarly, social media can be valuable for building relationships with others and industry professionals.
Video and podcast content
As more people are consuming content through video and audio, bloggers need to stay ahead of the trend and understand how video content and podcasts can affect their future.
Video content and podcasts can be used to create engaging stories that attract more viewers and listeners. They can also help bloggers reach a larger audience by providing informative and entertaining content based on videos and episodes.
However, the number of YouTube (N°1 video content platform) users has reached more than 30 billion users per month in 2023, according to SimilarWeb and the number of podcast listeners in the U.S. reached 82.7 million in 2021 (Statista).
The rise of AI
Nowadays, AI technology is set to transform the blogging industry.
It can create content faster, more accurately, and more efficiently than ever before. AI-powered tools can be used to analyze data, find trends, and generate content ideas from scratch.
As an example, we can choose ChatGPT, which is an AI-language chatbot, released in November 2022 by OpenAI. It has become one of the most popular AI tools and gets monthly around 1.8 billion visitors.
Additionally, by offering data on keyword research and content optimization, AI-driven tools can help bloggers optimize their SEO efforts. As a result, bloggers will be able to create high-quality content that is better for search engines.
With the help of AI-driven tools, bloggers will also be able to increase their efficiency and productivity in the long run.
Adapting to the changing blogging landscape — tips and strategies
E-E-A-T
It stands for “Experience — Expertise — Authority — Trust”. It means that you need to put your expertise and experience in your field into your articles and be honest with your audience. For example, if you write an article about tax returns, then you have to be an expert in the accounting field.
You can use AI tools, such as ChatGPT, and Google Bard, to write your articles but use them as an assistant. AI can help you, but it can’t replace your style of writing and experience. People love to read real experiences. You can find more about E-E-A-T here.
Stay updated on trends
There are several ways to stay updated on blogging and content marketing trends, such as subscribing to newsletters and reading the latest blog posts of many experts in the field, like:
Neil Patel: I consider him the G.O.A.T. of digital marketing. He has an amazing blog and a YouTube channel about online marketing. He’s also recognized as a top 100 entrepreneur under the age of 30 by President Obama.
Brian Dean: He’s an internationally recognized SEO expert and the founder of Backlinko, a very popular newsletter in the SEO and content marketing field. That’s why big companies like Apple, Disney, and Amazon subscribe to his email newsletter.
So, will blogging survive or die?
Blogging will survive and cannot die, and this is the proof. People still use Google as their main search engine, which is based on producing blog content.
Even with the rise of ChatGPT, which has around 2 billion visitors per month (according to SimilarWeb), and of social media like Facebook gets more than 16 billion visitors monthly, people still consider Google to be the top dominant website with more than 80 billion visitors per month.
