Y'know it was REALLY goddamn evil and nefarious that the oil fields gave my mom (a single mom working 3 jobs to raise 2 kids) a single $5,000 check in exchange for her signing a nondisclosure to never complain about them.
Of course we fucking took the money. Even with her working 1 full-time job and 2 part-time jobs, she barely made over $1,000 a month. Of course she took the money. We though about moving but we still couldn't afford it. She was so frugal with it, though. It did give us a sliver of financial security for years.
But goddamn. $5,000 is table scraps to them, and they bought her silence with it because she couldn't refuse the chance to slightly lessen the weight of poverty on her family.
#sorenhoots#i remember i was like 11 or something. she didnt know if she should sign it. and its not like we had or knew any lawyers. she had ME read it#over and even i was like “this is a nondisclosure and it means you cant ever talk about anything they do even if they do something terrible”#i recall being very proud of myself for knowing what a NDA was. lord knows where my middle-school self learned that from. she did eventually#have a lawyer of some sort look over it and they said the same thing but.... $5000#it wasnt an option for her. that was more money than wed ever had or saved. she had two kids who would need cars bc we lived so far in the#country. she knew i wanted to go to college. i dont think i ever saw her buy herself clothes before then either. it was money for emergencys#and necessities and birthday presents and road trips and... i often wondered about the person who offered us that. i wondered where they#lived and wondered how much their clothes costed and wondered if their kids got to have art or piano lessons. i wondered if their home was#over 80 degrees in the summer and under 60 in the winter and if they lived in a house that wasnt filled with dangerous spiders (we had nice#spiders too but we did also have Very Dangerous Spiders) and id picture him in his office in a button up and slacks and it would break my#heart that my mom couldnt have all of that. we just had a $5000 check and a vow to not complain.#she still feels earthquakes from it. less nowdays but still. and sometimee it still smells like a jar of hot petroleum jelly. and the attic#smell is worse than ever and the tap water smells like sulfur and wet mold#goddamn what the fuck? jesus christ. she should move.

Cleaning the rest of my room today!!!! Bought a handbag on clearance that had an adjustable strap and is worn across the body (the only way I can stand bags). Also got two new Pokémon plushies, a nice breakfast, and a lot of hair products I needed. Spent about $40 on fluff but I deserve it.
I still need to buy 2 more sets of work clothes (if I can find anything I like???? — all of my work clothes were thrifted, hand me downs, or clearance!! Though they’re super nice).
I also need to get 4 pyjama sets next paycheck (in 6 days).
Micro-fiber towel or find a cotton shirt. Hair wrap thing. A detangler and proper curl brush. Playsuit with attachable sleeves. 2 beaded bracelets, flower earrings, and nice necklace.
Then I’ve gotten everything I’ve ever wanted and will start saving for a car!

My sad little car is being euthanized this week, she served me well for 1 year and died a noble death of "stopped moving forward while going uphill" and after her diagnosis last winter of "will catch fire if left to idle for more than 5 minutes" I decided it was time to let her rest 🪦 🚗 😢

A list of things I have hyper fixated on (that I wasn't at uni for)
Sirius Black, the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, dress making, fashion, Renaissance Italy, Charmed, the OC, Star Wars (specifically Princess Leia), the history of London, Anne Boleyn, Medieval fabrics, Troubadour poetry, Hozier, Vivaldi, Lana del Rey, Cat Power, Artemisia Gentileschi, Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, the jazz age (I once spent a stupid amount to have birthday tea where the Fitzgerald's used to drink), the history of Florence, the history of Ultramarine............

okay so i put the cash i have left in japan in front of me and stared at it and i think i will be okay so long as sending my suitcases does not cost MORE than ¥12,000. i have to put ¥10,000 back in my bank account for fucking docomo, i need another ¥10,000 to pay for trains to the goddamn airport because transportation in japan is not anywhere near as cheap as the internet would lead you to believe, then the ¥12,000 for having the suitcases taken to my airbnb and i'll have ¥5,000 left to. eat at all until i leave the country. and when i check my second bag i will simply have to use my american debit card bc thats All i have here 👍
#again. i hate altia. i cannot believe that 9 months of work netted me 0 dollars and 0 cents in savings and i didnt even GO anywhere.#i literally have spent the last 9 months in okayama prefecture and osaka. osaka for a TOTAL of like 40 hours around flights.#yeah i went to korea twice but MY BOYFRIEND paid for those flights. you know what i paid for? japanese trains to the aiport.#which cost as much as the flights.#i hate altia. shit ass wage for real. i dont even know how the little fresh out of collegers do it.#like i have no money. i dont spend on stuff. i didnt buy my niche fashion or whatever. i LEFT my expensive niche fashion. i solf#*sold items from my expensive niche fashion. i have barely survived.#i dont know how Anyone does it i genuinely think i must be stupid i must be ass with money or something#my '''¥240 000''' paycheck was at ¥140 000 or less by the time it hit my bank account after altia was done skimming it for themselves#and then paying for gas in THEIR car to go to my job i do FOR THEM and CRAZY EXPENSIVE utilities in the apartment THEY PUT ME IN#would always have me down to like ¥80 000 in a good month to like eat and enjoy myself with?#but i also did have to send money home because japanese bank accounts are miserable and you cant use them for anything#so i'm eating off of ¥1 000 per day for breakfast and my homemade bento lunches AND dinner#and then when i was lucky i would go to okayama city and have one nice meal with my friends on the weekend#but going to the city costs fucking ¥2 000 so is it worth it?#i dont think this is a good job and genuinely i dont even think the fresh graduates should be doing it#if you want to delay your future this is the job for you. altia misleads you on their website and gives you half-truths in interviews.#dont work there.#t

#currently having one of those shits you have to get naked for#curled over the toilet and yelling as quietly as possible#hopefully whatever this is is out of my system before i have to go to lessons tomorrow#would hate to have to call off#i've been pretty consistent about my practice and would like to actually get good at it#also excited to go out for a latte tomorrow and put the lavender flowers i just bought in it. they smell super pungent so should be good#would also like to write or draw sometime soon#have mostly just been playing videogames with my SO when they're home and various homemaking stuff or piano practice when they're not#we desperately need to move out of here which means i need a job which aaaaaaa#i have desperately fucking needed this break after how that place was treating me#hoping to get a work from home job again to make moving easier#also would like to not burn through my entire savings but ey whaddaya gonna do sometimes ya know?#between med bills student loans keeping gas in my car groceries car insurance and whatever the fuck else life throws my way#my decently sized savings will likely dwindle fast#my partner is currently covering my car insurance but like. i pay significantly more than that amount for our shared groceries#maybe double or triple the monthly cost of my car insurance#and they have like 0 bills except the amount taken out paycheckly to have health insurance#hate ever even suggesting to take up more of the load tho#just awkward to talk about#in any event#here's to hoping for a decent wfh job. it's much easier to take care of the home and myself with wfh.

don’t let vehicle problems go unfixed for too long, folks (i rode on a leaky front fork which i fixed last night in an hour, but because i’d let it leak oil all over my front brake for months i had to clean it all and replace the brake pads, a process that took three additional hours, during which i discovered that my brake caliper pistons had seized because of all the oil and gunk in and around them from the leaky piston. so now i can’t ride till i’ve fixed it, and while i’m at it i might as well change the brake fluid and try and do the fork oil as well cause i have to top it off anyways and if i’m gonna crack it open i might as well just drain and replace it cause it’s overdue…)
