Y'know it was REALLY goddamn evil and nefarious that the oil fields gave my mom (a single mom working 3 jobs to raise 2 kids) a single $5,000 check in exchange for her signing a nondisclosure to never complain about them.

Of course we fucking took the money. Even with her working 1 full-time job and 2 part-time jobs, she barely made over $1,000 a month. Of course she took the money. We though about moving but we still couldn't afford it. She was so frugal with it, though. It did give us a sliver of financial security for years.

But goddamn. $5,000 is table scraps to them, and they bought her silence with it because she couldn't refuse the chance to slightly lessen the weight of poverty on her family.

#sorenhoots #i remember i was like 11 or something. she didnt know if she should sign it. and its not like we had or knew any lawyers. she had ME read it #over and even i was like “this is a nondisclosure and it means you cant ever talk about anything they do even if they do something terrible”#i recall being very proud of myself for knowing what a NDA was. lord knows where my middle-school self learned that from. she did eventually #have a lawyer of some sort look over it and they said the same thing but.... $5000 #it wasnt an option for her. that was more money than wed ever had or saved. she had two kids who would need cars bc we lived so far in the #country. she knew i wanted to go to college. i dont think i ever saw her buy herself clothes before then either. it was money for emergencys #and necessities and birthday presents and road trips and... i often wondered about the person who offered us that. i wondered where they #lived and wondered how much their clothes costed and wondered if their kids got to have art or piano lessons. i wondered if their home was #over 80 degrees in the summer and under 60 in the winter and if they lived in a house that wasnt filled with dangerous spiders (we had nice #spiders too but we did also have Very Dangerous Spiders) and id picture him in his office in a button up and slacks and it would break my #heart that my mom couldnt have all of that. we just had a $5000 check and a vow to not complain.#she still feels earthquakes from it. less nowdays but still. and sometimee it still smells like a jar of hot petroleum jelly. and the attic #smell is worse than ever and the tap water smells like sulfur and wet mold #goddamn what the fuck? jesus christ. she should move.

Cleaning the rest of my room today!!!! Bought a handbag on clearance that had an adjustable strap and is worn across the body (the only way I can stand bags). Also got two new Pokémon plushies, a nice breakfast, and a lot of hair products I needed. Spent about $40 on fluff but I deserve it.

I still need to buy 2 more sets of work clothes (if I can find anything I like???? — all of my work clothes were thrifted, hand me downs, or clearance!! Though they’re super nice).

I also need to get 4 pyjama sets next paycheck (in 6 days).

Micro-fiber towel or find a cotton shirt. Hair wrap thing. A detangler and proper curl brush. Playsuit with attachable sleeves. 2 beaded bracelets, flower earrings, and nice necklace.

Then I’ve gotten everything I’ve ever wanted and will start saving for a car!

#the majority of the last paragraph is small business items I’ve been eyeing #I already don’t want so much it’s so funny how money-conscious I’ve been getting #if I save every paycheck I can get that car with 3-4 months but obviously I will be getting other small stuff #including my hefty transport costs

uni admissions contacting me to assess my tuition fee status im sweating like this 😰

#bc if it’s overseas student I can’t do it they charge triple. across the entirety of the uk. it’s like £11000 a year #I only get £9000 a year in student loans and half of it is the cost of the course. I think phd is 4-5k a year depending on the Uni #and then I’m trying to use everything else to save up to move out or get a car or a motorbike or something to get Out of here #but I’m nervous about how they’re assessing this tuition fee #I’m already nervous bc so many of our ppl r still getting deported for breathing so yknow it’s like one wrong step and ur out #mrow.org

My sad little car is being euthanized this week, she served me well for 1 year and died a noble death of "stopped moving forward while going uphill" and after her diagnosis last winter of "will catch fire if left to idle for more than 5 minutes" I decided it was time to let her rest 🪦 🚗 😢

#working on it but at what cost 😭#i need a job that pays money instead of costing money tho to fund my job that costs money until it starts paying money someday 😔#spending so much money i dont have right now on it 😬#almost my entire savings went to trees for this spring and then i have to plant 700 by myself <3 #and we're renting sheep to restore one of our fields and just everything else to get ready is really adding up i really need some income #hopefully i can get away with part time tho bc there's so much work to do at home lol #im doing a pumpkin patch and a sunflower field this year too #and if i can scrape together 500 dollars im going to get a decent starter camera for funzies and also to take nice pics for the website #bc its very pretty but hard to capture on my phone #anyway if u cant drive u are smart you are valid you are capable you can succeed #anyway i know cars are evil etc but i live in a rural area w no public transportation of any kind and rn im relying on my mom lol #i do drive short distances with my dad in the car bc his driving is terrifying #but anxiety 😬#there's a place im hoping i can work that's not too far i think i can handle the driving its just getting a license that's stressful #anyway @ girls who can't drive i believe in you <3 #this has been a shitpost #my mom would sometimes drive me to freelance stuff thats how i have savings but i really hate to bother her driving me everywhere #so i really want to be able to drive myself to a regular job lol

okay so i put the cash i have left in japan in front of me and stared at it and i think i will be okay so long as sending my suitcases does not cost MORE than ¥12,000. i have to put ¥10,000 back in my bank account for fucking docomo, i need another ¥10,000 to pay for trains to the goddamn airport because transportation in japan is not anywhere near as cheap as the internet would lead you to believe, then the ¥12,000 for having the suitcases taken to my airbnb and i'll have ¥5,000 left to. eat at all until i leave the country. and when i check my second bag i will simply have to use my american debit card bc thats All i have here 👍

My dad is taking our living room tv on his trip to the new house on Tuesday and when i saw the gap and the wall where our TV used to be i had to turn around and go back to my room so my parents didnt see me cry

#its not even about the tv. i dont watch tv.#its the fact that they are packing up pieces of a life im still living here and taking it with them over there #i always thought that when i was ready my parents would help me move out #help me buy a car and find an apartment and maybe even help me pay for a while #but they have no have no money saved to help me move and no time to take me to see a car #theyre going to give me nothing and expect me to do this on my own #in the like hardest and most expensive time in history to get cars and houses #and theyre taking the livingroom tv #its stupid and i know ive never been able to depend on them before for any money really but #i didnt even get a graduation gift. they paid for lunch and that was nice but my dad even complained about that #and how much the graduation cake (that i bought myself) cost because all thier money goes to the housr #my mom told me the other day my dad brought up maybe fostering #when they get settled over there and wow if that didnt make me see red #you dont get to move somewhere and get a new family while im struggling #god i want to kill myself #but even worse i want to live and its hard to even just survive #and i cant even watch fucking judge judy on the couch now #theyre taking things as if im not still living here

#we got help with the big bills and managed to pay for the piercing course #but i need the hygiene course. which costs money. once we pay the big bill off #in theory we'd be able to save #but in the fall around october car insurance will have to happen #which is several hundred euros #and end of year stuff like electricity (again) water and gas #will be added up by our landlord #so all of the money we could save this summer has to go towards those #without donations how will i ever get my hygiene certificate to start working to get money?#if all extra goes towards paying life stuff how will i ever get to start this career?#i mean worse comes to worst i'll have to wait a full year so that ri is finally working #making more money than our aid currently is #but that's in another year. that's a full year away and we're struggling so bad month to month.#how is this supposed to be life?

don’t let vehicle problems go unfixed for too long, folks (i rode on a leaky front fork which i fixed last night in an hour, but because i’d let it leak oil all over my front brake for months i had to clean it all and replace the brake pads, a process that took three additional hours, during which i discovered that my brake caliper pistons had seized because of all the oil and gunk in and around them from the leaky piston. so now i can’t ride till i’ve fixed it, and while i’m at it i might as well change the brake fluid and try and do the fork oil as well cause i have to top it off anyways and if i’m gonna crack it open i might as well just drain and replace it cause it’s overdue…)

#motorcycles are cheap and fuel efficient they said it’ll be fun they said #i should’ve done this in the SUMMER or at least before daylight savings #when i had more than an hour of daylight to work in after work #legit tho. most routine vehicle maintenance can be done at home without too much trouble as long as you follow the manual #You Will Save So Much Money i’m not even joking #like. i had to replace my bike’s clutch assembly a few years ago #which would’ve cost $300 at a shop #the parts cost $35 and me and my dad did it in an afternoon #even in cars stuff like oil changes are dead easy if you have a filter wrench #(don’t be me and wear a new shirt to do it tho 😬)#the only things i’d rather bring it to a professional for are stuff like the wheels (need to be balanced and requires special tools+skills)#and electrical wiring problems (i’m not an electrician and idk how to read a wiring diagram)#hmm maybe drum brake problems too cause you have to take the wheel off to access it and i can’t rebalance them
