Fic Claim: Every Cottage Has a Story

I participated in hp_goldenage's Salt and Pepper Fest 2022 this year. The theme of the fest is that the Main characters have to be over 50. So I picked the prompt: a many decades established couple brings in a third.

The multi-pairing is Harry/Ginny/Draco and is told from James' POV. And as one of my commenter's said, James inherited Harry's obliviousness. LOL It's short (short for me: 5K), low rated, and very fun and warm. I had so much fun writing it!

“Okay, Mum. But it still doesn’t make sense and you know it. None of this has made sense since he moved in with you and Dad. I remember he was sullen after Astoria died for quite a few years and then he dated all of the time.”

Ginny barked out a laugh. “Yes, he had someone new at each event. That was just sex, James, not love or companionship.”

“So, did he give up or something?” James asked. The whole conversation he found baffling. He wanted to talk about his dad and why he was retiring. Not about Draco Malfoy, even though he was the one who brought his name up. He knew he was the one with the problem regarding Draco and maybe that was because he was the oldest. He’d heard more stories when they were fresh, and when his mother’s family talked more freely about those times. He knew why Uncle Bill had scars on his face, why Uncle George still had bad days, and why Aunt Hermione had a rose tattoo on her neck. He never blamed Scorpius, but Draco was a different story. He had the Dark Mark. He’d been one of them.

“Or something,” Ginny said and let go of his cloak. James frowned.

“What the hell does that mean?”

“Don’t talk to me like that, James Sirius!” Ginny replied sternly. “I’m sorry that you haven’t noticed what’s slap-bang in front of your face. You’re like a Muggle not seeing magic.” James sighed deeply and shook his head.

I do wonder if you had any more plans for McG in that universe or even out of it. I am on a hunt for Minerva Mcgonagall heavy works lol

Thank you for this ask too! I don’t have plans to write more McGonagall in the Little Compton Street universe although she will appear in some capacity in the fourth and final part of that series, which will focus on the Ginny Weasley/Millicent Bulstrode story, although I have no timing on that yet. I’ll definitely be writing more Min though and have other works featuring her although they’re much shorter.

In terms of recommendations, I have always loved the works of kelly_chambliss who writes a lot of Minerva and I think you will really enjoy her stuff. I wrote Play Me Like A Love Song for @hpwlwbigbang and there were other Minerva fics published as part of that fest, including the excellent Kittyhawk, Saorsa - A story in twelve Quidditch bets by @hippocrates460.

There used to be a fest just for Minerva centric fic and art. It is sadly only available on LiveJournal but if you check out the fanlore entry, it might lead you to other Minerva writers who have archived their works on AO3. There might also be some Minerva content in the HP Goldenage Salt & Pepper Fest which focuses on characters in the Potterverse over 50+ and those fics and the artwork are on AO3 and Dreamwidth (the link is to Dreamwidth but you should be able to get to the AO3 from there).

Writcraft’s 2018 Fic List

Now that Erised reveals are up, I can finally post my fic list of 2018 and do one of those summary memes I’ve been dying to post. Better late than never! 

2018 was a year of faltering muses then writing in quick, intense bursts of inspiration. When I look back on 2018, although there are one or two works I’m not overly satisfied with, some of the things I’ve written are personal favourites when I reflect on the fanfic I’ve produced over the years. I’m going to answer some yearly evaluation questions, but here’s my list of 2018 fics and as a self-contained post. This list doesn’t include ficlets posted on Tumblr only.

Number of Fics Written in 2018: 36 if you count the 10 chapters of my Festive 500s that published in 2018. The final 10 of those are going up in the next few days too, I promise. 

Total 2018 Published Word Count: 341,000. Although 31,000 of that total includes a co-write, we edited each others words too and worked on the fic as a whole together. I have also underestimated how much I wrote on LLM this year and not counted some drabbles and tumblr ficlets, so I think this total is about right.
