Christmas is coming. Who are you buying gifts for? Christmas already did come and the most stressful part that is gift shopping is finally over, thankfully. I got gifts for all the members of Gab’s family, save for her grandma who doesn’t like me and who I don’t like back because I don’t go down without a fight lolol. I also got gifts for my mom and sister. When somebody intimidates you, how do you usually act around them? I wouldn’t want to show it and so I’d always try to act like my usual self. Is your favorite singer in a band or does he or she ride solo? She used to be, and gained popularity for being, in a girl group but she’s already gone solo for a very long time. Did your parents ever hang your old artwork up on the walls? They do this with my sister’s works, because she’s a bigger artist than I am. They’d probably do the same with me if only I was the artistic type too. How often do you wear chapstick? Never. I don’t own one, and I haven’t for like probably a decade now.

Do you walk around your house with your shoes on or do you take them off? Take them off, because I’m Asian. What is the weirdest obsession you've ever had? My obsession with the 80s sitcom Perfect Strangers back in 2011 was not weird, but definitely out of place for the time. I was posting stills of the cast and sharing funny quotes from the show that absolutely nobody could relate to, so I kinda got why I didn’t have much friends at the time or why no one really knew how to approach me. How long can you be in a car before wanting to get out? I can handle road trips pretty well, honestly; I’ve been in 15-hour drives where I can’t say I had a hard time. I’m guessing it’s because my dad would have us go on verrrrrry long road trips, and at some point I just got used to our 8, 10, or 12-hour long drives. Would you rather be in lust or love? Why? Love. Lust is a bit hard to come by on my end considering I’m demi. How many of the seven deadly sins have you fulfilled today? Envy, gluttony, greed, and pride. Should guys always kiss the girl on a first date? Uh, I dunno dude it’s 2019 – you do you. Which band has the corniest music videos? Corniest lyrics? The Vamps has always fucking sucked for me in all aspects. What subject is/was hardest for you in school? I have tons of different classes in college but I struggled the most with fact-checking and economics, which I both unfortunately took in the same semester so it considerably pulled down my general weighted average for that sem. Have any songs ever inspired you to play an instrument? There’s a lot of great movie scores out there that have made me want to learn the piano. Do you ever use Pandora? No. I don’t even think they offer that here.

Are you better with creative writing or writing essays? Essays, definitely. I doubt I can do creative writing to save my life. What is the first facial feature you notice on a person? I don’t really look at faces; my eyes usually go to what other people are wearing. When was the last time you were rick rolled? Last night, I can’t fucking BELIEVE IT LMAO. I was on Reddit and saw a popular post from r/teenagers, I had no clue what it was referring to but because my fingers just go around clicking stuff I went ahead and clicked on the post – it gave me the lyrics to the song. Not the music video, but the lyrics. What is the weirdest animal you've ever seen as a pet? I don’t think I’ve encountered any weird pets. Which is good, because most of the time weird = illegal. If Ronald McDonald stole your bed, where would you want to have sex? This is...a weird question... If you had to change one, would you rather change your hair or your eyes? My hair, because it’s wayyyyyy too frizzy. When was the last time you had a 'she-mergency'? Two Mondays ago. I was in a photo studio for a shoot and I realized then and there that my period had started during the trip and that by the time I got there, the crotch area of my jumpsuit was already quite soaked. Which sounds creepier: sleeping in the attic or the basement? I’d find it scarier sleeping in the basement, just because those are less common here and because I know JM has a room in his house’s attic and he’s doing just fine. Do you listen to music while using Bzoink? I’d sometimes listen to music while taking surveys on here. I don’t directly use Bzoink. What was your favorite computer game as a kid? Diner Dash, Cake Mania, and Insaniquarium hahaha. Have you ever tried on your mom’s wedding ring? Yup, and my dad’s. Would you rather travel to a desert or the North Pole? North Pole. Any shows on TV that you flat out refuse to start watching? Yeah, too many. I don’t watch Riverdale, HTGAWM, HIMYM, all the Marvel stuff that became series, etc. Pajamas with feet: yay or nay? I’ll go with, “that’s a thing?” What is your opinion on fruitcake? Leave it. What do you do when somebody tries to make you jealous? I’ve never really felt it if/whenever someone tries to make me feel this way hahaha. I just go about minding my own business. Here's a tough one. Would you rather marry your cousin or a dog? That’s just sick. Did you know that Albert Einstein was a womanizer? No. Who did you last dream about? I forget my dreams easily, so I’m afraid I can’t answer this. Do you have trouble remembering important things? Not really. Which animal can you imitate the best? Dogs I guess, because I have one of my own. How many people do you think you've met in your life? At least more than a thousand, I’m guessing.

annalise and isaac have a love that can never happen. listen to the music score underneath that scene and tell me that’s not about love. that scene broke my heart. 

idk if this has been talked about but its pretty fucked that out of fucking nowhere they gave laurel some french white woman as a mom just bc the actress is white passing. like full white mexicans dont exist, they had to make laurel ‘biracial’ to explain why she’s so white, (even tho the actress is actually mexican).

A Fil-Am actor’s life: Conrad Ricamora | August 9, 2017

Conrad Ricamora is having the best of both worlds. During the recent hiatus of ABC’s “How to Get Away with Murder” (“HTGAWM”), where he plays Oliver Hampton, he reprised his Ninoy Aquino role in Seattle’s revival of the award-winning David Byrne/Fatboy Slim musical, “Here Lies Love” (“HLL”). Now, he’s back on the set of “HTGAWM” for Season 4.

“I don’t really think about my career as a journey,” said Conrad, who matter-of-factly described his enviable actor’s life of being able to switch between Broadway and Hollywood. “I just get up every day and do the work I need and want to do. The same way I’ve been doing it for over 10 years. I just happen to be doing it on a TV show and on Broadway.”

The son of Ron Ricamora, who was born in the Philippines, and Debbie Bolender, was promoted to a series regular in Season 3 of the legal drama that stars Viola Davis as Annalise Keating, “HTGAWM.”

The relationship of Jack Falahee’s Connor Walsh and Conrad’s Oliver in the show has become so popular that fans have coined a term for the couple: Coliver.

Raised in Niceville, Florida, Conrad made his splashy Broadway debut as Lun Tha in Lincoln Center’s Tony-winning revival of “The King and I.” The cast recording, in which Conrad is one of the principal soloists, scored a Grammy nomination for best musical theater album in 2016.

For his performance as Ninoy in the original off-Broadway production of “HLL” in 2013, Conrad won a Theatre World Award and earned a Lucille Lortel Awards nomination for best actor. Excerpts from our interview:

How would you describe your journey as an actor so far? 

I would describe it as a persistent and settled journey. In 2005, I made a decision to become a professional actor for the rest of my life. I knew that I would be in for a lot of highs and lows and a lot of rejection, but I knew that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. So, I dug in and started doing the work—working on my voice and audition monologues and reading plays.

How do you prepare for an audition? Any good luck rituals?

Before I start the material, I usually take a deep breath and get centered. I prepare as much as possible before the audition. Hopefully, I’ve had a few days with the script, but sometimes you only have less than 24 hours, so you just do the best you can. Afterward, I always buy myself a treat, like a bacon cheeseburger.

What is the most frustrating part of trying to land roles in Hollywood? 

I don’t know. I only moved here a year ago, and I have a full-time job at “HTGAWM.” During the hiatus, I was doing “Here Lies Love.” So, I haven’t had any free time to audition.

How do you handle rejection? 

I let myself be upset for a day or two, but I also don’t let it stop me. Even if I’m upset, I’ll make myself go to the gym, or read a play, or take a class. Something that metabolizes that rejection into forward motion.

Have there been times when you almost gave up? 

No. I knew this was what I wanted to do, and I knew that there would be a lot of rejection. I just accepted it and kept going.

As an actor of color, do you feel that opportunities for minorities are improving or getting worse? 

This question needs to be posed to white people now. I’m tired of even talking about it. I feel like it’s been oversaturated and talked about [a lot] in the media at this point. Things just have to change.

What’s your stand on whitewashing—or the casting practice in which white actors are cast in nonwhite character roles—in Hollywood? 

People should have artistic freedom to create art in whatever way they want to express themselves. But the whole diversity conversation that’s been happening in the last few years is happening because audiences are hungry to see themselves in the art that they consume. They want to see people of color onscreen that are fully fleshed out human beings. It’s a collective consciousness shift that’s happening and a correcting of long-held discrimination in the entertainment industry.

Can you talk about landing the Oliver Hampton part in “HTGAWM”? 

Originally, I went in for the role of Wes (Gibbins), but I guess it wasn’t a good fit. Then, about a month later, they asked me to audition for the role of Oliver that was a one-time role in the pilot. When we shot the pilot, Pete (Nowalk, creator) seemed really excited about the stuff I was doing and the way Jack (Falahee) and I worked together. He said he was going to look into bringing Oliver back for a few episodes. 

What can we expect from your character in Season 4? 

I’m not sure yet, but we ended Season 3 with a marriage proposal. Yikes. Maybe Oliver proposed a little hastily and out of fear, because of all of the intense things that happened last season. There are going to be big questions Oliver has to answer for himself, personally and professionally.

What was it like being back on “Here Lies Love” and playing Ninoy Aquino again in Seattle? Will you be in another staging  in other cities? 

I love being a part of it. The cast and creative team are my family forever. “HLL” is such an urgent show right now, given the state of the worldwide political climate. There’s talk of future productions of “HLL.” I’ll always be ready to go back to the disco.

To people who are planning to pursue acting, what should they prepare for? 

They should prepare their voice. Develop a rich, nuanced, powerful, flexible voice. They should learn about their body in space, and increase their spatial awareness. They should learn how to harness their will, and attach it to the will of another human being. In other words, the ability to empathize. They should write their goals down and say them out loud. Then, they should go to every audition and be in front of an audience whenever they’re given the chance.

more reasons why eating disorder recovery is awesome: 

- actually having enough energy to study and do well on tests

- having enough energy to write stories again! 

- spontaneous grocery trips with my mom and my little brother filled with laughter instead of constant anxiety.

- spontaneously eating strawberry popsicles after said grocery trip. 

- spontaneous lunch dates with friends 

- nyc trips with the best people in the world filled with lots of yummy food 

- stealing my brother’s chips (mwahahahahahaaa) 

- trying new drinks and foods (like coffee with milk and honey??? so?? good??) 

- actually liking barbecues and all forms of dining outdoors especially in the nice summer evenings 

- intuitively exercising because i want to be able to carry things for my parents?? (esp. since they’re getting older and can’t move as they used to without hurting something.) 

- getting excited about helping people?? 

- having enough energy to filter the good/bad relationships i have with people???

- talking and connecting with new and friendly people who are really actually nice??? 

- listening to more podcasts (omigod i actually sat through 2.5 hours of wolf 359 and it was sheer amazement)

I’ve come so far. I still have really bad days, and my body’s changing right now, so my mental state has been a bit wobbly, but writing down all of these reasons why recovery is so effing worth it is a lot more helpful than I realized. I can do all of these things because I decided to choose recovery instead of relapse. I can do all of these things because I chose my life over my death. I can do all of these things because I chose myself instead of society’s diet culture. 

So I can do this. Recovery doesn’t stop just because of a number on a scale or because of a certain body shape. I have to choose recovery every day, and if making long-ass lists like this helps me do so, then so be it.

Haha I sort of did snippets as I watched but OK.

1. This was definitely a much appreciated episode after last week’s, which in my opinion was underwhelming. If there’s one thing I can say about HTGAWM is they create mood with music/score really well so all the music/score choices this week were topnotch, it really added to what was going on. I appreciated Miller and Bonnie in the context of there being someone in Bonnie’s life that made her happy but I wasn’t invested in them because I thought it all happened way too quickly for me to really care so I don’t think I would’ve really felt how sad it was for Bonnie to be looking at all the sticky notes he left on her computer monitor if they didn’t use the exact right music to go with it because the music just made everything tragic.

2. I said this in one of my snippet “reviews” but I liked watching Bonnie and Nate together this episode, Liz and Billy feed off of each other well, feed off of the emotion so when they were talking, teary-eyed, I was like you guys are compelling onscreen together, I’d like to see more emotional scenes between you two.

3. I still don’t care about Gabriel’s storyline really but I assumed the phone call was to Hannah, I thought the two of them teaming up would be a natural fit so I was surprised that he called Miller.

4. I liked the idea that Asher knew about this murder first and on the one hand I thought it would be interesting if the tables were turned and Asher is the one keeping this secret from the Keating 4 like they did for all of season 1 but at the same time I absolutely lived for the fact that Michaela and Laurel and the others unraveled it all in the span of 30 seconds because Asher is just not a pro like they are.

5. Once again, I do maintain that Oliver isn’t consistently written. Last week he was making bad/callous jokes about Gabriel being dead, before that he was indignant about Simon before that he wanted to be a part of the Keating 5/4 and now this week he’s back to being morally superior? I wondered if it was because Michaela told him that he was the optimistic one of the group and she can’t have him go dark so he decided to rag on her again for some “normalcy” but I still feel like the writers need to figure out what side Oliver is on and if he’s ambivalent actually make him ambivalent instead of giving him ambivalent writing.

6. I know there are a lot of Tegan/Michaela shippers out there and in some ways I feel like the show may be gearing up to that but I am 100% Tegan/Annalise and I love that it was brought up this episode and Tegan’s reaction to getting called out was basically

7. I think it was obvious from the jump that Miller was telling the truth that he didn’t set up Nate Sr. but Bonnie figuring it out was still sad.

8. I liked how Annalise called Eve out on her privilege this episode while Tegan called Michaela out on her biphobia.

9. I am ambivalent about Connor sticking up for Wes in this episode because on the one hand I love it because it shows development and how much Connor has grown but on the other hand, Wes isn’t completely blameless, he wasn’t exactly a victim, he did kill Sam so I feel like the show’s relationship to Wes now is weird, it’s both protective and sometimes disrespectful at the same time?

10. I never liked Waurel and I’ve always thought Laurel was extra when it came to Wes because I didn’t buy what the writers wanted me to buy when it came to their relationship so her reactions all felt disproportionate and performative to me but this episode I did believe she was triggered and struggling with the story she had to tell Gabriel about Wes and what she really felt about him considering how much she hated that they pinned everything on him.

11. I wish we had more time with Nate and Annalise and Nate telling Annalise about what happened with Miller, those two are also good onscreen together and I miss their emotionally charged moments.

12. While I do believe that Michaela and Laurel were so quick to call out Asher because they’re better at lying and manipulation than he is (plus they’re both observant and smart) I would also like to think that Michaela knows Asher, knows his tells, knows when he’s keeping secrets because of their relationship so when she kept staring at him and she was saying how he was acting weird earlier I was like because you know him!!

13. I also hope for more Annalise and Connor scenes because I love watching them together too.

Omg did u watch HTGAWM! Review?!

1. What sticks out to me the most is how on point the music has been for this season. Like the score made everything 10 x more epic/dramatic this episode, I loved it.

2. I  kind of squealed when Bonnie texts Annalise that Nate is in prison and when she’s asked what’s wrong she says, “Family problems”, I just really like that Nate is a part of her family.

3. I was super worried Tegan was going to die because then I would’ve rioted.

4. I thought it was hilarious when Connor and Oliver were trying to convince Laurel not to have them as Christopher’s legal guardians if she died and Connor talks about how he’s moody and would be terrible and Oliver gestures to him like SEE? they were really cute this episode.

5. When Laurel rushes to get Christopher’s blanket and they ask her where she’s going, I howled when Connor said “to get her gun” because it was sort of a glimpse of seasons 1-2 Connor and while I love the growth and development he’s had over the past five seasons, it was fun to see a little bit of Old Connor in that moment.

6. I don’t care about Gabriel and Michaela and after the whole “I miss us” scene with Asher last episode, them hooking up had me like WHY THOUGH. 

7. I do like how everyone was like WE ARE TIRED OF YOUR SHIT, LAUREL. YOUR SHIT AND YOUR FAMILY’S SHIT.

8. I do understand why Laurel would want Connor and Oliver to raise Christopher but I also do think Annalise and Frank would be appropriate guardians as well as extremely loving.

9. “I thought you were going to be a better Frank.” “I think everyone might be better if I’m just Frank.” I’m paraphrasing but I really did like that exchange.

10. I don’t CARE about Emmett dying or not dying.

11. Laurel disappearing is something I actually just don’t care about. I never liked her character, I never understood the focus on her character and she got more insufferable with each season so when she’s gone I was just like … OK? I don’t know, I’m never really a fan of babies and children in shows too so Christopher being kidnapped also had me like, I guess but also, how. I can’t suspend my disbelief about someone taking Baby Waitlist in a rickety house with all these people in it unless he was never really there to begin with in which case when would they be able to take him?

12. Related, I never got the impression that Laurel’s father/family would hurt her child, I never got the impression that he would be in danger with them and the whole “I can’t have him living with people like that” is just super ironic in the context of the Keating 5 who have murdered people so I just don’t feel any anxiety about him being with the Castillos.

13. The music was on point though ;)

It's Kind of A Funny Story (Film)  Okay so, dahil nabasa ko na ang book. Dapat lang na mapanuod ang film. And shet. Swabe lang!! Hahaha! Halos wala namang pinagkaiba ang book sa film. Parang siguro medyo mas mararamdaman mo lang sa book kung bakit ganun si Craig, at nagets ko siya.  So, okay lang.  Nakakagulat makita si Dr. Minerva ay si Annalise Keating!!! HAHAHAHA! Natawa ako na Psychiatrist si Annalise dito. Haha. Parang nakakapanibago, although nauna naman to kaysa sa HTGAWM. At meron akong favorite line ni Dr. Minerva,  "Lord, grant me the strength to change the things I can, courage to accept the things I can't, and the wisdom to know the difference."  Ermergerd. That's so. Yeah! HAHA! Actually gusto ko yung part na courage to accept the things I can't, kasi basta. Haha. Anywaysss... pucha! Gusto ko yung scoring nito!!! Ang ganda!!! Saka yung eksena ng Musical Exploration! Solid yung production ah. Hahaha! Ang galing! WAAAAAAAH!!!! Ang good vibes lang.  Tapos yung scene sa basketball court ni Craig at Bobby! Hindi ko maalala kung meron nun sa book, pero solid yun! Damang dama ko sila dun. Hahahha. Tapos tappos... Ukininam!  Kinilig ako sa Craig + Noelle Rooftop Scene. Gusto ko yung pano inexecute yun! Highlights emerut! Solid yun beshies! ♥  At ang pinakafavorite ko sa lahat is yung Muqtada Dance!!!!! Ang cute cute! Sobrang nakakauplift ng moral na napalabas ni Craig si Muqtada sa room nila. Haha. May pag-asa pa bes! Kapit lang! Although hindi na pinakita yung naganap nung lumabas si Muqtada sa room, siguro sinama na lang din sa rooftop yung moment na nasa book, yung landian ni Craig at Noelle. Anyways, solid pa rin!    At yung last scenes, yun din medyo yung last scenes sa book. Huhu. Ang galing! Infairness, kabog ang pagkaka-adapt from book.  So now live for real. Live. Live. Live.  Hanggang sa muling pagkabuhay!  PADAYON!!!!
