getting lost in the crowd wasn't how she pictured spending her time at the festival. hyeran finds herself abandoned, irritated, at her friends. cell service is apparently a joke here. there's no one she can call and can only hope to magically meet up with them at the next stage.

she ponders her options, eyes glued to her phone as she walks through the crowd. her shoulder brushes up against someone else's and hyeran unceremoniously falls to the ground. she's cushioned by the grass at least, but she finds herself still feeling sore after the collision.

"sorry," she calls up to the stranger, starting to push herself off the ground. "my fault! i can be pretty clumsy sometimes."

none of the female leads for mask girl were nominated for the baeksang awards but the one male supporting actor was and wins?? not surprised but the girls were ROBBED

Also I told myself that I didn't want to rant by answering this but the fact that Mask Girl was a masterpiece on so many levels. The fact that every actress showed up to work. This was Lee Hanbyeol first job and her acting was soooo fucking good. I hope she gets cast in good ass movies because Korean cinema slays. The interpretation of Kim Momi by Nana shook me to my chore. Meryl Streep woke up in sweats feeling her scalp get tucked ! The queens off when it was the scene with Momi, Chunae and the Devil's mother ugh it deserved every awards in the world. Go Hyunjung was literally persona non grata in the industry before this role but she was that good that they couldn't hate. Yeom Hyeran did her thing per usual by portraying that evil bitch (no other description is suitable) and Han Jaeyi was also a rising star with her portrayal of Chunae I was gagged! I know those awards shows are just a popularity contest but I wish arts was respected.

I’ve finally come to a conclusion about how I feel abt the ending up unstoppable siblings/my secret brother

After like 6 years and three read throughs so here we go

9/10 I always loved this book even if I didn’t fully understand why or what about it made me feel good. I think the author does such a good job at showcasing codependent relationships and as someone who is prone to those😌 there’s a real vibe to it. The main villain arc was wrapped up well. The writing was subtle and smart. There was a real love put into this and yeah it was really great. My favorite characters were Junhyuk and Hanmi( what can I say) but Gun weaseled his way into my heart as well.

HOWEVER it gets a 9/10 and not a 10/10 because of the ending.

I’ve always felt so discontent about the ending which I didn’t understand bc I don’t dislike the cousins the cousins 🫣 JUST HEAR ME OUT because it’s more than that. So I was confused

I think I just really love them as people and I want them to be happy and if they are the people who will make the other happy then I’m happy for them. If I think about it too hard it makes me nauseous bc they’re cousins and the thought of getting with my cousin makes me sick😵‍💫. But I will just turn a blind eye and try not to think about it.

For an ending I wish they just finally talked not so much confessed but just admitted what they wanted from each other so that’s why I still feel like I have zero closure.

In a perfect world I wish the couples were

Junhyuk and Gun-

Gun’s sweetness and Junhyuk’s old man-ness were just so cute together idk I think they would have grown a lot and actually been able to lean on each other in a way that the other couples couldn’t. Also Junhyuk had a hard time being mean to Gun and I think he was a real soft spot for him

Hanmi and Yueun-

Yes Yueun and Ginny were cute but it would have been such a nice arc for Hanmi to not end up with any bois. And Yueun had grown so much by the end of the series their story was just sweet and loving and I liked that

Hyeran and Seongwha-

Idk I just feel like she is the only one who could handle him and all of his crazy and I think they’d actually be cute together he would bring out her more evil side and she is his good side. but this is a special case bc he really sucked and so this would be if he got better and then they met later or earlier or something. In a parallel universe.

she’s a NINETEEN year old wannabe, born DECEMBER 22, 2004. she’s currently eyeing LIME ENTERTAINMENT and lives by the words “only time will tell.”

‘i’m counting on you, hyeran.’

her mother’s voice echoes in her thoughts, distracting her from the task at hand. hyera is supposed to be recording an audition tape, but the harsh words flitting through her brain prevent her from thinking straight. there’s a blank stare on her face as she watches her mother sets up the tripod once more, waiting for her queue. 

'don’t screw it up this time. we don’t have all day, you know?’

her mother gives her a thumbs up and counts down from three with her fingers. hyeran sucks in a deep breath and puts on a big, hollywood smile. 

“hello!” she exclaims cheerfully. “i’m jo hyeran, and i’m honored to be auditioning for your company today,” she giggles, clapping her hands together. it’s a sentence that’s been rehearsed and spoken numerous times. not only from the countless takes, but also from the countless times she’s had to do something like this. ever since being dropped from her previous company, her mother has taken to seeking out every online audition and signing hyeran up for it. 

“i’ll be singing and dancing for you today, without a backtrack,” there’s a confident, almost smug expression on her face as she utters that line. "i want to show you my strong performance skills. please enjoy,“ hyeran bows before getting into position, closing her eyes and sucking in another deep breath. there’s no need for a countdown as she’s not relying on a backing track or any music - just plain raw talent as her mother would describe. 

she performs neatly, almost robotically. everything is presented perfectly to the camera, hours of practice evident. hyeran finishes by looking into the camera intensly, eyes focused on the invisible prize. 

"thank you for taking the time to review my audition,” she says, bowing once again. her mother yells 'cut,’ and motions hyeran over. they review the tape, satisfied.
