i could talk about the complexity of ed & stede’s relationship for hours but what i find really fascinating is how while ed is clearly in touch and comfortable with his attraction to men, he is stuck in a circle of toxic masculinity and keeping up this tough and macho persona even though he would love to just be soft and himself while stede is the opposite of that. he’s, maybe not struggling, but definitely only just discovering his attraction to men all the while not being shackled with performative and toxic masculinity despite being forced into it all of his life by both his peers and his own father. it’s just so lovely that they both clearly recognize that in each other and can learn from each other: ed sees that he can have and want soft things and that there is more to life that boredom and violence and stede can discover this whole new side of love and intimacy that has probably never crossed his mind before

Narratively obsessed with Cole, the one who was introduced as the outcast in his family and not accepted by his dad without hiding who he is, finding his new family in the land of forgotten things and making sure they are all loved and accepted without question. Like this is just truly satisfying narrative completion for him. I love the man he's grown into. His mom would be so proud.
