"Do you want to know a secret?" Stede whispers in his hear, and Ed's mind is instantly in overdrive, goosebumps erupting all over his skin, knees going a little weak, and he's glad Stede at least had the decency to push him into a wall before he decided to scramble his entire brain.
He gives the tiniest nod, can't manage to get any words out.
"I love you, you nut. I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
Ed startles so badly at the words that he almost headbutts Stede again by accident.
"None of this means anything to me without you." Oh god, there's more? "What would I want with fame and fortune if I couldn't share them with you? I already left everything I owned behind once, Ed. I'd do it again in a heartbeat if keeping it meant losing you."
Ed started crying at some point during his speech and he barely even noticed. His mind is flooding with Stede and love and Stede loving him enough to give up the entire world for him. For Ed. Not Blackbeard, not the legend but the man. All he's wanted since he woke up from his trip to the gravy basket is to be warm and safe and stop having to work so fucking hard for everything. And here Stede is, offering himself heart and soul, all of Ed's wildest fantasies coming true before his eyes.
"Marry me." Stede says next.
Ed gasps.
"What-"
He needs clarification, needs to know if he's hallucinated this entire conversation and those two words in particular, manifested them out of thin air just from how badly he wants to hear them.
"Marry me, Ed. Let's spend the rest of our lives together. We can do whatever you want, keep sailing or retire or run away to fucking China after all. We can figure it all out together. We'll discuss it over tea and draw up an entire plan. This isn't a whim for me." He's staring intently into Ed's eyes, so fucking earnest that Ed can't do anything but believe him, believe he means everything he said and he won't panic this time and leave him stranded with all this love in his hands.
They'll discuss it over tea, ha. Ed's marrying a madman. Because he will marry him, come hell or high water. He'll put a ring on Stede's finger and say his vows and tie their whole lives together as tightly as their bodies are right now.
"Yes," he says, smile radiant on his lips.
"Yes!" Stede cheers. And this time there's no running away unless it's hand in hand towards their shared future.

Paul's fascination with John's glasses: A compilation
Tumblr media
"John was a great character. A very different kind of guy to the other boys I knew. We met at the village fete. He was playing with his band. He was a year and a half older than me and my first friend who wore glasses. He was always taking them off and polishing them. I found it fascinating."
“John had these horn-rimmed glasses at the time and if ever there would be a girl coming round John would whip his glasses off and put them in his pocket and squint as she went by. And I would say, you look pretty good, the glasses are good. But when Buddy came along the glasses stayed on."
"I love just looking at old pictures of the guys, for example, ones of John with his glasses; obviously it's hugely sad, because I miss him so much."
"When me and Elvis Costello came together...there were similarities between him and John. They both got specs. People with glasses got a different sort of attitude to the world, I think. They could be a little more introverted...a litttle more of a pussycat on the inside and more aggressive on the outside. Which John was, and I think Elvis is a little bit. I like that in people."
"Whenever I see John with these sorts of glasses, it reminds me of the way he would take them off when there were girls around. For some reason people think they look better without their glasses! And now, whenever other people do that it always reminds me of John. I'd be chatting with him, or writing a song, and he would take his glasses off and clean them. And because nobody in my family had glasses, I'd never seen someone just chatting and absent-mindedly cleaning them."
"But it’s exciting for me to go back in time and just… because I took the pictures it’s like I’m there. I know it’s a slightly obvious thing to say but it just reminds me of John with his shades and his guitar.”
"And I would often sketch John when we worked together, often without him knowing it. It was so easy doing John because he had glasses, those sideboards...and that long, aquiline nose."

ASTRID KIRCHHERR and JACKIE LOMAX, c. 1963/64
These contact sheets have shone a new light into Astrid’s life post-Stuart, as her and Jackie appear to be very comfortable being so intimate with each other. It also confirms Jackie as being another of Astrid’s exes that remained her friend after their time together was over, with Astrid travelling especially to photograph his debut album recording sessions in 1968.
(I also enjoy the ‘Alle Nein!!!’ written across the last sheet. I think it’s safe to say that Astrid didn’t like these photos much).

I thought u hate mclennon
U read my recent mclennon reblogs haven't you?
Short answer: mclennon breaks my heart. I hate how tragic it is. But I love how tragic it is. Just like how I hate and love the Beatles as a whole. So I do identify as more of a hater cuz I hate my mixed feelings about it. Just like how John hates his mixed feelings about Paul.

Me listening to (Just Like) Starting Over for the first time - Aww, how cute, he’s talking about how much his relationship with Yoko means to him.
Me listening to (Just Like) Starting Over for the third time - Yeah, there’s no heterosexual explanation for this.

Sounds like the new footage from Pete Best is the same one that we've seen before, but cleaned up by Peter Jackson...
Jackson has created a new video, which will be unveiled at 14:00 GMT on Friday.
It will contain previously-unseen footage, including "a few precious seconds" of the earliest known film of The Beatles, provided by original drummer Pete Best and his brother Roag.
Roag said he bought the silent footage from a man who used a cine camera to film the band performing St Paul's Presbyterian Church Hall in Birkenhead in February 1962, eight months before their debut single came out.
Jackson's team have improved the quality and "it looks absolutely fantastic", Roag told BBC News.
It is also the only known footage of the band performing in the leather suits they sported before they became famous.
"The lads are rocking backwards and forwards with guitars, mouths to the microphones, singing," Roag said.
Jackson has used about six seconds of the footage in the Now And Then video. The original lasts for almost a minute and will go on show at the Liverpool Beatles Museum, which Roag Best owns.
I'm more interested in this, though...
In a statement, Jackson said he had found other "unseen outtakes in the vault, where The Beatles are relaxed, funny and rather candid".
He added: "We wove the humour into some footage shot in 2023. The result is pretty nutty and provided the video with much needed balance between the sad and the funny."
The Beatles' final song Now And Then: When is it out and what will it sound like?. BBC News, 1st November 2023
