I'm so happy to finally introduce Lyla's family! I've never been so invested in an OC's backstory before LMAO 💕

Lyla is indeed Muggleborn (as a couple people have guessed!), so it came as quite a shock to everyone when she received her Hogwarts letter! I legit added Alfie last minute. It was originally just going to be Lyla's parents, but I LOVE writing about sibling tomfoolery (I have four brothers and one sister, so I have a lot of source material LOL)

Also, as I was writing down names for the MC Art Challenge, I realized I never mentioned Lyla's last name. It's Estaris! ✨ I should probably start tagging that more often 😅

I just realised tomorrow marks the 7ths week of me being sick and feeling like garbage lol It's some ups and downs but generally it's been a while since I've been healthy and none knows whats up which is nice.

So I cant do a full map of the city but here's the important layout. Please forgive the crude drawing.

This is a cross section. Rings 1-7 (Also called U1-7 in the fic) and B1-6 are actual ring shapes, so there's nothing in the middle other than lava and open air. The Upper Bowl is the area where the world tour concert takes place in the movies. There's seating that goes up to a ways under Ring 1 and there's also large amounts of lava pools there that are in use even when there are no concerts. The stage is somewhat in the middle of the bowl, built in front of the lava geyser that is ALWAYS active.

As you can see, Ring B7 AKA the Lower Bowl is underneath the lava. Unlike the rest of the lower levels, B7 was a naturally formed cavern and was not carved out by the Rock Trolls.

The underground rings are taller than the above ground rings for the most part as there's a lot of industrial factories there. There's SOME housing and businesses down there but not many. Similarly the above ground rings are mostly houses and businesses but there are some factories up there.

Your average ring is built like this with the red being the actual buildings and the yellow being the walkway. The green line around the walkway indicates a half wall. It comes up to about your torso and you are able to view the Upper Bowl from it and see across the ring.

And this is not to scale because I cannot make maps to save my life but this is the layout of Branch's house. Yes half the house is dedicated to their recycle piles. What is the ??? room you may be asking? It's a room no one ever goes in. Don't worry about it.

Branch's house is in Ring U7, as is Billy's and Val's. Death Metal Brew is on Ring U5.

OH and one more thing.

This is not ALL there is to the city. :) This is just all that Branch is aware of.

Had this parental instinct to teach them everything, how to shoot, find food, basic self-defence, overall taking good care of themselfs. But he kinda likes that he has to provide for them, it gives him control yknow

Cant say no to those cute big eyes! Yes he will let them 'decorate' his armor (with glitter and stickers) and he will let them paint his nails and he will lisen to them gossip about their friends.

If his kid is a little artist and walks up to him and says "papa i drew you!" He does not care that he looks like a lizard nor that they didn't color it perfectly. Dude is purring, picking y/n up and he carries this drawing in pocket everywhere

Other yautjas say that he spoils them, but he disagrees! Your a HUMAN baby, i mean yeah your basically one of yautjas now but!!! Your tiny! And your skin is so squishy!!!

He had to learn how to comb their hair cuz at some point y/n simply refused to cut it (me too lil guy) and he respects them so much he won't just do something against them

Dude tries to be a perfect father figure, he tries to have similar intrests with his kid so they can connect more, but if y/n is totally not into hunting, collecting, nature themed stuff, Yautja is more than happy to catch up with whatever teens are into this days, but he will judge the hell out of tv shows (if they watch any)

How much time do you spend planning some of your visual novels? At least going by some of them being jam submissions, it feels like you go from pre-production to a finished build very quickly, and it's amazing how you can manage that while still having an awesome story and so many assets.

Also, what is like, the process of planning a story out for you, if there's any vague or concrete similarities that you've noticed?

i think the important context here is that if i get bored/have nothing to do i jhust immediately get really suicidal its like ridiculous how bad it gets(ITS FINE DONT WORRY ABOUT IT IVE HAD 5 YEARS OF THERAPY). so i hate being bored and want to occupy my time wit something fun whatever that is. if i have a project to focus on but especially if I'm working for a game jam i have a deadline and i just decide to myself okay i will release a game now.

because ive made a decent amount of games i roughly have an idea on my capabilities, i can estimate how long it takes for me to write a story so and so long and how long it takes for me to draw stuff i need and how long it takes for me to throw stuff in renpy. these are estimates like as in I'm not accurate with it but still enough that i generally know where to start cutting ideas since the most important part is just having something to submit. i also know to plan around my brain wanting to slam my head into a wall an my hands suddenly giving up on being able to draw.

i think thats the beauty of game jams it forces you to just go for it and release something. releasing a 'bad' game is better than no game at all. experience only comes over time and i think just going for it is the best approach there is. like its literally 2 weeks 1 month whatever of your life. if you have the time and motivation go for it. make it work or fuck it up it wont matter in the grand scheme of things

im not sure what is the motivation behind the question but i do want to point out that this is just my method (if you can even call it a method) and the only way to figure out what works for you is to just try until you find something that actually works for you

idk not everyone will find it doable/fun to plan around spending two weeks gamedev 10 hours a day just cause i wanted to fit in 100 cgs for a jam game but apparently i can do that when i cheat my stupid adhd brain into hyperfocus with adhd meds

as for planning tho i think ideas on their own are worthless and its always about execution in the end. a great idea or a meh idea are the same for me but i do still enjoy the planning process so i keep notes

like i see a great tumblr post or i see some art or visual novel has some scene that inspires me: i save that shit for myself

having a big collection of random floating ideas like that helps me easily pick from especially during a jam type duration. right now i have like 4-5 half-baked project skeletons, some are literally like 3 pictures and some like naomida are a hundred hours worth of me writing world building about how the toilets work in a city with no plumbing cause its -30celcius(i love bringing this up)=

i dont normally plan that much, i tend to just wing it. like for malmaid i seriously just had some rough ideas and just went along as i wrote

same thing for dddeviance i had a handful of scenes that i really wanted to make and knew what kind of start and end it was meant to have and just figured out how to fill the in between. a lot of plot points changed vastly like halfway through i realised my devil + angel combination was stupid and i should just go for fallen angel + angel.

i think there really is no simple answer tho (as evident from the long as hell post) i don't really have a 'process' because every single game has been worked on has come with different type of planning since I'm always trying new stuff to try and distract me from boredom. like I've been using obsidian for naomida while previously I've just used a empty discord serve as my notes app for malmaid and dddeviance

and tbh with naomida I'm running to a new problem where I'm definitely planning too much. like I'm spending too much time fidgeting with details in chapter 4 even when i haven't finished writing chapter 1 just cause its so easy to get in the loop of "oh ill just change this one line" and boom 20 mins spent playing with my notes that didn't really progress my game since by the time i reach this point the whole scene might have shifted to something else

but if i had to squeeze an answer itd be something like everything related to my art or writing or games is just like "oooooo that seems fun i should remember this for later" and then i just string 10-100 of those into a story

hi! i didnt realize you were back on tumblr but im really happy to see you working on a new project with such passion! if i may ask, and i realize this might be an eclectic and difficult question to answer, but what was the process of realizing this project like? I read mentions of this first being conceptualized 15 years ago or so, and im curious how the story evolved and changed over time. I dont mean content-wise of course (since im pretty sure you cant talk about the specifics of what actually happens in the story) but in a more general sense of like, how an idea germinates and how you build it up over time, and what sort of decisions in the writing process leads you to making it more of what it currently is. sorry if this is really vague.

the earliest idea for what would become soulsov wasn't much. i had been vaguely imagining an rpg adventure starring two characters i was drawing a lot at the time: loic's daughter and another guy i have not reintroduced yet. I remember daydreaming about them fighting monsters in class.

back then, it was more of a "look at my collection of ocs" kind of project. the characters had elaborate profiles and everything, but i didn't have a coherent story to go with any of it. this is less because i wasn't trying and more because i was a kid who thought in terms of what a story "had" to have rather than what i wanted to write about.

i made cq and gained some experience actually writing stories. proto-soulsov had kind of a revival around 2017, where i thought i wanted to write YA fiction. it was going to be set ~in a world where writing is outlawed.~ loic got arrested for owning a library and his daughter had to save him. it was completely stupid, and i later realized i was still writing for imaginary film execs. however, the earliest concept of a language-based magic system started there, so it wasn't all bad.

eventually, i took a good look at these characters and tried to figure out what i (me) (myself) (only) liked about them. this led to the realization that, at this stage of my life, i was simply more interested in writing about a dad in sexually-charged peril than a shy teenager saving the world. this was when i threw out basically everything else and tried to focus on the dynamic between loic and the character that became ysme. (if you are feeling sorry for loic's daughter in all this, don't; she is also a better character for the shift in perspective.)

basically i gained a better understanding of myself over the years. soulsov is, in many respects, a story about being selfish, but i had to look at it selfishly to realize this. it is for me, but i hope you can enjoy it too.

also plays into the princess thing.. while i dont think kinger actually believes himself to be a king, he will pretend for you if you think he is a royal. upgrades his pillow fort into a castle for you, its actually kind of sweet watching him scurry around trying to find more pillows/materials to build it.. doesnt read you stories, rather he tells you his own. sometimes theyre totally made up, other times theyre exaggerated caricature of his past experiences in the digital world.. i dont think he would make you keep up with your princess style/looks, but if you ask him to help you with something hes more than happy to give you a hand (usually fixing your hair or crown)

Becoming Canon

Summary: After a successful heist in getting the notebook back SMG3 and SMG4 confess their feelings to each other. Tags: Love confessions, enemies to friends to lovers, fluff Next Part Note: i put a poll up to see if peeps want 'The Next Step' on tumblr and forgot to mention the prequel fic becoming canon so here we go!

SMG4 smiles as he watches SMG3 jumping with joy over saving his notebook, he was so thankful that his viewers were on his side to help this happen. After having fun teasing SMG3 he started to feel the fatigue from the whole thing, who knew doing a heist would take so much out of you?

After teasing SMG3 about why he was building a new evil lair right next to his castle he lets out a small yawn “Speaking of cafes…I’m dead tired.” he gives his partner a small smile “Let’s have some coffee.” For the first time since they have known each other things felt peaceful, maybe it was them both being drained from the heist or maybe this heist helped bring the two closer together. He remembers back a few weeks ago how SMG1 and 2 told them they needed to get along and work as a team, of course their plan on gluing their hands together really didn't work on bringing them together. What it did bring was a lot of videos and tweets explaining he wasn't dating SMG3, though thinking about it would the two of them dating be so bad? During the heist he never felt so close to SMG3 before, the way they were in sync scaring Mario. How they had each other back helping each other out of tight spots, they even finally manage to get their fusion ability to work…sorta.

SMG3 perks up hearing his words “Now we’re talkin!” walking together they sit on a pile of wood waiting to become a part of SMG3 cafe, SMG4 smiles looking at the sunset as SMG3 starts doing their coffee. They smile at each other doing a small cheer as they clink their cups together and drink, as SMG4 enjoys the warmth of the coffee he notices SMG3 writing in his notebook with a huge smile “What are you writing?” he knew he wasn't going to get an answer but it wasn't going to hurt him to ask you never know what mood SMG3 is in.

He smirks and turns away “I’ll never tell!” SMG3 makes sure the other cant see the drawing he is doing of them both with cups of coffee.

With a giggle he nods “Don't worry i wont push it,” as he looks back at the sunset his heart starts to beat faster. This would be the perfect moment wouldn't it, he honestly felt this whole day was a sign of some kind. It all started with SMG3 telling him he wrote about their moment in the igloo, then they got stuck doing a game show where they had to watch the video and see the moment they both agreed never to talk about. He had to admit the closer they got the harder it was for him to keep his feelings in check. When he hears the notebook close he decides now is the time with one last gulp of the coffee he turns to SMG3 “You know…this heist got me thinking,”

SMG3 sips his coffee and stares at his partner “What that we should be full time spies, cause i'm not a fan of the idea of your fans telling me how to live my life,” SMG4 shakes his head with a small chuckle “No, nothing like that…just we make a good team don't we?”

He keeps staring at SMG4 feeling confused on what was going on with the man next to him, seeing this SMG4 sighs feeling himself blush. “You know…people ship us together…and uh with all that's happened to us i started to wonder….” he had no idea what he was doing. Every TV show he has seen made confessions look easy, even Axol made it look sweet and easy with the manga he was making before everything.

SMG3's eyes go wide as he also starts to blush “Why are you bringing this up all of a sudden, idiot!!”

SMG4 closes his eyes “WHAT IF WE MAKE IT CANON!?”

Everything was dead silent, he was nervous to open his eyes to see how SMG3 was looking at him. Finally he hears a whisper “you….what?”

Slowly he opened his eyes to see a stun SMG3, his face was as red as his eyes, it almost made SMG4 giggle for how cute it was to see him like that. “I..well i like you, so i was wondering if maybe we can try…the next step?”

SMG4 started to get worried he broke the man for how long it took for him to move again, he watches as SMG3 stares at the floor then his notebook. His heart sank, did he read the signs wrong, did the guardian not feel the same as him?

SMG3 gets up and stands in front of him “Fine, i guess i…i like you too! But don't let it get to your head…Baka!”

It's weird how i enjoy writing fics from Javier's POV more than i do with Lloyd (⁠￣⁠ヘ⁠￣⁠;⁠) but when it comes to art, I'll only draw Javier when Lloyd is included in the artwork

After discussing about it a bit with discord peeps, i arrived at the conclusion that I like drawing Lloyd more because he's literally just some guy. Draw a generic character base, make them have a side bang hair style. Boom. Lloyd Frontera. Now compare that with Javier Asrahan who is described as someone so fucking gorgeous, an otherworldly beauty, his looks and personality (but mostly looks) is to be envied and admired by all. How the fuck am i supposed to draw that? Not to mention his hair?? I havent complain about this here yet but i DETEST drawing his hair. I have to constantly have a reference of him because in each drawing that i did of him, he looks different!! Why? Because his hair looks different everytime!! I get his looks right ONCE and then never again!! It drives me insane!! I'll only draw him if Lloyd is also there!! That's how much i dont like drawing him!!! Ik this sounds like a major skill issue but idgaf i only like him by proxy

HOWEVER. I just. Cannot. Write from Lloyd's POV. idk. I can never seem to get it right. The thing with him is that despite his average looks, he's extremely fucking smart. His knowledge is vast and otherwordly. and i'm just someone with slightly above average scores. I cant fucking put myself in his shoes because i literally cannot do it. He's too smart for me. Im not smart. I prefer to scroll my phone for unprecedented amount of time, rotting my brain, while Lloyd will plan out ways on how he's going to change the lives of the masses. I dont know what tf hes going to do next. Fucking. Build an amusement park because thats somehow related to preventing the world from ending or some shit I DONT KNOW

That's why I like writing fics from Javier's perspective!! because he's also just a normal guy. His way of thinking is interesting, but still comprehensible to me because I can put myself in his perspective. I can imagine myself having to take care and protect my dumbass of a friend boss from accidentally dying. He's observant, not compulsive (something i can very much relate to). His motive is that of a stereotypical hero protag. I need to save the people even if i die in the process type shit. Hes honest, but willing to lie when it comes to Lloyd. Again. Traits that the average person can . probably. relate to. Probably not the i'll sacrifice my life for the people part. But still. Javier is a pretty sensible guy

Anyway In conclusion. Javier and Lloyd go together like peanut butter and jelly or however the word goes. They compliment each other in so many ways. I love them. They make me sick. Thank you for coming to my teh talk

Their lore is extensive so, I'll go with quick facts.

In the past, gods saved earth from apocalypse fighting against "devil's", they fused together so they could seal the barriers from heaven and hell (in fact they were other parallel worlds) and losed their shape, now they had to use human vessels as their bodies. So every 200 years the Kingdom of Valgeva chooses one of the "ten houses" firstborn to be the new body of the god of the kingdom, Teias.

Ariuth Ginemoux

Ariuth is the first son from the Ginemoux house, as the older son he carried a lot of responsibilities.

Ariuth is a kind man, he puts others first and him last. ENFJ type. He tends to neglect himself, which worries Videric. He has a complicated relationship with his father.

He's been in love with Videric since he was 13, both of them were oblivious of their feelings 🤪.

Ariuth is someone extroverted, he finds it easy to talk to people. He's a gentlemen, educated, sometimes forget the difficulties that ordinary people have because he lives surrounded by privilege.

He's a mage, his strength is light magic. He's ambidextrous, also he's an archer. His father is the commander of the kingdom's magical guard.

Ariuth wishes for a quiet life, sometimes envious of Videric's farm life.

Videric Chauvet

The youngest of four. He's the song of farmers and tailors, His family works raising sheep, producing cloth and making clothes for the big houses.

Videric loves designing clothes, he makes Ariuth clothes.

Videric is a quiet, reserved boy, he is kind and loves nature. Also he can be stubborn, he cares deeply about his family.

Their story

Short-long-story. Ariuth confessed to Videric that he would be part of the Deus Project, a project that trains the sons of the Ten Houses and then chose the next vessel for Teias. Videric of course was scared of it, what if Ari is chosen? Videric confessed to him, he loved him and Ariuth should gave up on the project, But Ariuth did not want to disappoint his father.

At that time, they were 15-17.

Years passed, they had time until 200 years passed from the last vessel.

At the end, Ariuth was chosen, and Videric was heartbroken. He didn't want to lose him, he didn't want him to become a puppet, he despised the authorities.

Videric suggested him to run away, they did it, Vivi thought they were finally free, but no, the kingdom looked for Ariuth, the vessel.

Finally, They found them in bed, Ariuth apologized to his father and blamed Videric, despite everything the fear of disappointing his father was greater. Videric was heartbroken, he was accused of interrupting the protocols of the kingdom.

Later. Ariuth and the god Teias talked, Ariuth was devastated to betray his beloved, how can he make it up? He pleaded the god that please, while he was using his body, protected Videric from all harm, and the God, accepted.

Teias takes the body of Ariuth, Ariuth conscience sleept through 200 years

About soul rot:

Arinuan magic works in mysterious ways. Luckily those mysterious ways have been neatly laid out in a comis strip for you.

The most basic principal of magic is this: The power of magic is derived from the soul.

Considering magic stems directly from the soul, the loss of energy outputted to use magic causes damage to the soul. This is called soul rot.

Don’t worry, however, because soul rot is completely normal. The soul naturally heals itself, and the healthy part of the soul will heal most soul rot in under twelve hours.

Too much soul rot, however, is alarming. The soul needs at least one small healthy fragment in order to be able to heal itself.

If the soul becomes completely rotted, there is simply no saving it. It’s hard to get here, though, because most magic users will tire by the time their soul is even three fourths rotted.

A fully rotted soul will not heal itself, slowly beginning to decay.

The loss of one’s soul can’t be reversed, and is comparable to the loss of ones humanity. Some possible effects of soul loss are: Loss of morals, loss of empathy, loss of logical emotions and logical thinking, violent outbursts for seemingly no reason, narcissism, paranoia, distrust of everyone previously close to you, amnesia.

Those without a soul can also barely use magic, if at all. With the soul gone, any attempt to use magic will put a strain on the body itself. The magic has to draw energy from somewhere else, causing decay and sharp pains all throughout the body.

About the types of magic:

There are two types of magics in Arinuo. Natural magic and Learned magic.

Natural magic is accessible from birth, and is genetic, being inherited and influenced by the parent’s magical abilities.

Natural magic is not hard to access, it is hard to control. Natural magic users often spend years mastering their abilities fully.

Natural magic users have a predeveloped tolerance against their own magic, so it does less damage to the soul by default.

Learned magic is magic that is learned throughout life, and is preformed by writing symbols in the air with a tool or even your finger if one is advanced enough. Learned magic is an art of memorization and power control, some are better at picking it up than others.

Learned magic is something that you have to build up a tolerance to overtime, regardless of if you have natural magic or not.

Until one develops this tolerance, learned magic causes more soul rot than natural magic does.

These Magic symbols are created when a natural magic user tales their own magic and embeds it into a sigil, enchanting it. The process can also be done with written language slash spoken language, but is rarer.

By creating a magic sigil, the creator gives up whatever aspect of their magic they’ve enchanted the sigil to replicate. That’s why people don’t just turn their magic into sigils all the time.

OH MY GOD THE ENDING OF CHAPTER 17 I AM FREAKING OUT SO MUCH. i have always been so interested in the pythia’s possible connection to kristin ever since phil pointed out his curse, so this chapter was genuinely so exciting for me to read. i’m very interested to see how he tries to reason the hand he felt from kristin versus the silence he’s getting from clara.

the tension building within the country was also a very interesting thing to touch on. it’s cool reading from a pov that has no idea what either side’s plans are, although i’m not sure if that will be for much longer depending on what phil is planning

i am normally not the best at visualising settings in my head, but your writing makes them so vivid for me. if i had any artistic ability i’d try draw out a map (but alas i cant draw to save my life)

I'm definitely excited that i'm at a point in the story where i can focus more on kristin. because until now wilbur hadn't earned the deathlings trust so of course they weren't going to show him private moments like what he witnessed with phil, but now they know he's staying there of his own free will, so he's going to get to see more things that are usually kept behind closed doors :)

oh yeah I knew i had to touch on what was going on with the wider political sphere. it's a challenge to find ways to integrate that stuff when wilbur's pov rn is so limited, but I want the readers to know there is Stuff Happening outside wilbur's sphere

I'm so glad my writing makes it easy to visualize things. that's one of the main things I try to focus on because I know I definitely appreciate that kind of writing when I'm reading a story
