If I could advocate for anything it would be making informed decisions about your career. Take yourself seriously my dudes.
Every union is different and a lot depends on industry and location. You can be generally pro or generally anti, I really don't care (I'm generally pro, but that doesn't change the facts I'm sharing), but either way you need to learn about the industry you're getting into.
For example, if you were a stage actor I'd tell you that whether or not to join AEA is entirely dependent on where you are planning to work - every region and city has their own ecosystem of theaters with their own relationship to the union. So some places you absolutely have to be union to work. Other places not so much, so then you need to look into the benefits and dues structures and how representation works and make the call for yourself. I think you'll likely be better off joining eventually in most places, but I don't know your life and your needs. Actually look into the health coverage and how that matches your needs. Look at the the houses you want to work in and the type of work you want to do. If you're a deviser or you self-producer, that's a very different thing than working at a LORT house or being a swing in a touring musical.
And that is true for every industry. Just take yourself seriously if you want to do something for your career and get yourself some information.
So many people are reblogging my unfortunately blazed post with like "always join every union every time" or "all unions are mobs and also cults" and none of that is particularly helpful. I have my own emotional response to both comments based on my experiences, but that's not really relevant here.
Regarding WGA all I can tell you is I dont know a single professional tv writer who is not a member or working on joining, because that is the reality of that particular industry. I certainly don't know everyone but I know quite a few. I can't really speak to screenwriting bc that's not so much my network.
Also just to say it's hard to accidentally apply for, interview for, be selected, and sign contracts for jobs so the idea that the big bad union is gleefully waiting for poor baby writers to wander into a spike pit is dumb.

I just realized something and now I am mildly annoyed
The reason why Screwball said "STRING BREAK" and they stopped fighting for a moment because Wander broke a string in his banjo...
Essentially, break from string because string broke
string break because string break
I can't believe you.

I think I finally know how to describe my personal asexual-ness. Cause I'll see someone (98% of the time an actor or fictional character) and think "ooh pretty" or sometimes even "goddamn holy shit" and
and I thought that was attraction, what everyone was talking about, but instead it's the feverish acknowledgment of something I like.
It's this:

looking at (vetted) gofundmes for people trying to escape palestine and i don't know how many of you actually click on the gofundme links you reblog but i would like to point out, for what it's worth, just how amazing it is that so many have raised so much money. it may overall feel like a drop in the ocean but the fact that several gofundmes have raised tens of thousands of dollars is amazing. it is so expensive to leave gaza right now, and people still need money after they escape. but regardless of what propaganda the US, UK, canada, and other western nations are trying to pump out, people across the world are doing what they can to help these people survive. many of them are still very far from their goals (like this one and this one and this one) and some of them are very close to high goals (like this one), and some of them have reached almost double their original goal.
and that's not even addressing direct aid or organizations that take continuous donations for distribution of food, menstrual products, etc. the PCRF has raised $16,000,000 of their target goal of $20,000,000 to fund current aid and long-term relief efforts in gaza. ANERA's febuary 13th update discusses the material ways they helped palestinians today:

(ANERA donate link)
my point is, it often feels like the world is turning a blind eye to palestine. but i would like to point out that there is an important difference between "the world" and "western political leaders and media narratives". a breathtaking amount of real people, the people who make up the world, are trying to help. in the face of israel attempting to commit genocide, the world is saying No. These people deserve to live. and literally sending millions of dollars internationally, through the internet connection that israel has desperately been trying to destroy.
it may not feel like it matters in the grand scheme of things. but to the people who get fresh clothes, or a hot meal, or blankets, or the kids who get new toys, or to the people who are able to bring their families to safety, it matters to them. go make someone's day better. i've linked so many options with ways to do that.

I always wondered why they don't nickname Chilchuck to "Chil". Because Chilchuck is quite a long name, it's way easier calling him just Chil. And then this.
Tumblr media
It's all the opposite of how it would normally work. Usually, people call each other by their first (or second sometimes) names, but when they're called by the full thing... it means either nothing good is happening, or they're being called in a formal way.
Isn't imposible to think that the party actually called him Chil, since it's his first name and a nice nickname for him. In fact, they probably did, and Chilchuck told them they shouldn't call him that and explained why. They stopped calling him Chil, and accepted calling him Chilchuck for the rest of their lifes, apparently. Actually, we don't see anybody calling him like that until...
Tumblr media
Laios tries to get his attention with something that normally would. Calling him his first name, something that he told them specifically not to do doesn't even makes him flinch. And then he's sure that Chilchuck is out of it and proceeds to intervene.
It's such a subtle detail, I don't remember if they call him "Chil" on other panels, if they do, reblog with evidence so we have all the oficial Chil moments here.

Everyone, we can fix Hamlet and Romeo & Juliet if we just switch the leads.
Romeo wakes up in Hamlet's body and meets the ghost of "his" father telling him to kill his uncle. So if course Romeo just fucking does it, because he never considers consequences, and then gets onto more important shit, like romancing Ophelia, political fallout be damned! But given that he's the son of the murdered king, he'd probably end up on top.
Hamlet wakes up as Romeo and is told that he can't marry the love of his life because his family hates her family. Instead of killing Tybalt and getting Merucio murdered, he's planning elaborate meet-cutes for the two warring families. He's putting on plays about blood feuds and how to overcome them. He either succeeds in bringing the families together or bores Juliet enough with his indecision that the glow wears off and she moves on; both positive options. Everybody lives.
