friends to himym to new girl are like. shows for each decade from the 90s to the 2010s that are literally just about people who are friends living life together. obviously himym has the "dad telling his kids the story of his life" but its really mostly just about the characters living life without a super big hook like scrubs, community, the office, or the good place

also super interesting to me that they really all ran for about a decade like friends was 1994-2004, himym picks up immediately after with 2005-2014 and new girl is 2011-2018. friends is pretty 90s most of the time, himym's in the middle but was mostly a 2000s show, and new girl is firmly a 2010s show

SOMETHING ELSE I REALIZED while writing this post was that they kind of show the shift between sitcoms with laugh tracks and sitcoms without ones. friends is pretty clowned on now for the laugh track but at least it's an actual live audience unlike the nickelodeon/ disney ones, himym was edited first and then shown to a studio audience but the laugh track is noticeably quieter than friends's track, and new girl is a single cam like most sitcoms now are

does seinfeld count as a show that's really just about people living their lives???? i haven't seen all of it but from the like 1.5 seasons ive seen i think it does???? and it started in 1989 up to like 1998 but that feels like a 90s thing to me

if long VODs arent your thing but youd like to stay somewhat up to date with stream events, baconnwaffles0 is your go to guy! he takes a lot of inspiration from streamers like Ludwig & goes into each of his lifesteal streams with a Concept and a Plan for making into a video later. as a result hes gotten 12 second channel videos out of his season 4 escapades, very much a good short encapsulation of his season so far. (parrot also does this but parrot hasnt streamed super recently so his videos dont really reflect current events the way bacon's do.)

the streams are very much fun and will often give better insight into events as they happen - which is why makign sure they're preserved and saved is important - but streams are 100% not necessary to follow what happens, because lifesteal members explain everything important to you in narration. ls videos are very much designed to be accessible to any random person who might click on it and watch, so they will say nearly the same spiel about the hearts plugin every time, they'll describe their besties as just "my friend" instead of using proper nouns, give basic exposition of what side/team is which, etc. they want all of their videos to be able to do well independently of one another & that ideally any one of them could grab a new person! (they're algorithm bitches u know how it is)

... however if you DO want to watch livestreams, here are my recomendations:

princezam (twitch.tv/princezamlive)! zam is one of the most frequent streamers on the server & is I think the most accessible to newcomers. super funny & instantly endearing. we love printer!! i REALLY recommend his season 3 videos, especially "how I lost my empire"!

pangi is also up there (twitch.tv/pangilive) 👍 pangi is great, very funny guy, streams a ton - he'll be out until december tho bc hes currently recovering from a surgery! pangi is deceptively unassuming - man got the maximum number of hearts he could on the first day of season 4 and has refused to budge from that position since.

baconnwaffles0 (twitch.tv/baconnwaffles0) is teamed with planetlord and they're a frequent visitor in his streams, so if youd like to check out planet you're more likely to find him there than at their own twitch (twitch.tv/planetlord_) - but bacon and planet bounce off of each other super well. some of my favorite s4 streams have just been bacon, planet, and their teammate yeahjaron doing silly things, like making an exotic pets shop or reenacting the extinction event that killed the dinosaurs.

tl;dr in terms of "what homework do I need to do here to catch up", it's less like dream smp and more like hermitcraft. start wherever watch whatever nothing matters except that u have fun. fuck it we ball

The references are nice. I love Nia's love for animals and her assignment to the park. Before, her job wasn't permanent. Also, Belle is here. I love her. I love them. I like it. :]

Until I watch all of Nia's episodes, I won't be commenting on how she supposedly repeats learning things from Kenya all the damn time.

However, I do have a problem with the argument being made. It feels like it dimisses that different cultures interact like this most of the time, bringing up the ways they handle certain situations. From my expierence, i hear where these differences come from all the time, even if I know the person well enough.

I just don't see the problem with Nia bringing up how things different are between her old home and Sodor. It feels relatable, despite the fact that I'm Hispanic (Mexican), and it makes sense.

James the Super Engine

I ADORE THIS EPISODE. I've talked about it before but in short, I love how James is portrayed. Could've EASILY written him as a hero who gave up and didn't bother checking up on Rebecca when she yelled for help. But no, they went the right way. James IS caring but considering the environment he's had to work in for so many years, you can see why he doesn't show it. But here, HE DOES.

And when he realizes that Rebecca is in trouble? Its his normal voice, whereas before, it was his superhero voice.

In my second, I noticed Hiro's "konnichiwa" and got thrown off completely. Odd how they're JUST now bringing out Hiro's first language. I don't remember seeing this brought out before BWBA.

Overall impression: Not as shitty as its made to be. It has its good moments and bad moments.

I'm so glad that I wasn't bombarded with fantasy sequences with this one. Those are just plain ridiculous, for the most part. In some episodes, it fits like James the Super Engine and Thomas' Animal Friends. The one in Emily's Best Friend made me cringe but I enjoyed it because its Edwad and Emily.

Okay, I just finished rewatching the first season of Miraculous and I have some thoughts, but before that I need to complain

Why the fuck is the episode order Lika That? I initially set out to watch the episodes in production order rather than release order because I knew there was some funky stuff going on with the release order, only to find that the production order was also all fucked up ??? So I had to rely on someone on reddit who was kind enough to write down a chronological episode order for the first three seasons (and despite that, Origins ended up as the last two episodes of season 1 for some reason, although I am retroactively glad about that tbh, more on that later). Fortunately it looks like seasons 2 and 3 do just follow the production order so watching those will hopefully be easier

One of my main reasons I wanted to rewatch Miraculous and finish it is that I wanted to see if it was even a good kids show. Because while a lot of MLB fans and critics bring up good points about the missed potential of the show, it feels like a lot of them go about it from the perspective of adults or older teens who want to enjoy it as a piece of media that caters to them, rather than as the show for children it actually is (which isnt exclusive to this fandom, its just kinda a general tumblr thing but still). Its something that really bothers me about critiques of childrens media because yes, making something for a young audience isnt an excuse to make something bad, but you still need to apply different standards for kids media than you would for teen and adult media. What I mean by that is, just because a piece of media for children doesnt appeal to you, an adult, doesnt mean its bad, its just not for you.

So, Miraculous isnt well-written by the standards of media in general, but is it a good kids show? The first season, yes. Since Ive already watched seasons 2 and 3 and seen a lot of the spoilers for seasons 4 and 5, I know theres gonna be some problems and Im gonna run into some issues with my future critiques because it genuinely gets hard to tell what theyre even trying to do narratively and if theyre trying to appeal to the under 10 crowd like the first season or trying to become more mature and for tweens (10-12 year olds) as the series goes on, which are important things to consider when critiquing the show like this but Im gonna worry about that later

For now, yes, the first season is a good kids show.

The characters are pretty archetypical and Adrien is honestly pretty bland when hes not Cat Noir but theyre all ultimately pretty likable (or hatable in Chloe, Lila and to a lesser extend Kim's cases) and I like the diversity in Marinettes class, both in terms of ethnicity and in terms of bodytype. That being said, the designs of both the civilian characters and their akumatized versions are mediocre and personalityless at best and straightup awful at worst. For the akumatized villains I find it kinda weird that theres not really a consistent style to them. Some of them, like Stormy Weather, Lady Wi-Fi and Evillustrator, practically have the same color scheme, some of them, like Stormy Weather, Puppeteer and Reflecta, have the vibes of magical girl anime villains, some of them, like Timebreaker, Simon Says and Rogercop, seem like villains you'd find in a western comic book series etc. And it really doesnt feel like its because of the personality of the akumatized or because of their feelings when they got akumatized, it feels like its just kinda random every time and Im not a big fan of that. Marinettes Ladybug suit is really bland and I dont like how much emphasis it puts on her underage body especially since this a show claims to be empowering to young girls while Adriens Cat Noir suit looks fine i guess, just kinda generic for a black cat superhero. I dont think it'll ruin the experience for any kid watching the show but to me stuff like this is a pretty big display of carelessness, especially considering fashion is so important with Marinette wanting to be a designer and the main villain being a world renowed fashion designer.

The animation is pretty good for TV cgi though and I actually found the fight scenes very engaging and fun, I think kids who like action would really enjoy them

After watching seasons 2 and 3, I was honestly very surpised to see that Marinettes crush on Adrien and her awkwardsness around him was actually pretty cute and endearing initially. Like yeah, shes a bit of a weirdo about it but shes not like, a stalker and her awkwardness feel like an appropriate level of over the top-ness for an animated kids show and its definitely a far cry from the cringy, unecessarily slap-sticky shit I remembered, so that was nice. The writing in general was far less juvenile and trying-too-hard-to-be-funny, except for Hawk Moth. Now, theyre not trying too hard to make him funny, theyre actually trying to do the opposite, but hes just impossible to take seriously with his cringy lines every time he goes to akumatize someone. I think it would be better if the sequence of him sending the akuma out was silent, like we the potential victim get angry, cut to Hawk Moth smirking and doing his thing with the akuma in silence, then we see the victim get akumatized and talk to Hawk Moth except we dont hear him so its one-sided. But like with the character-design stuff, i dont think this will ruin the show for the kids but I do think making the main villain more mysterious and scary would be an improvement.

One of the big ways that the show fumbles imo are the lessons. Like, lets take Stormy Weather; the girl (I forgot her name sry) gets akumatized because she lost the vote to become weather girl and went on this huge rampage taking her anger out on everyone. From that description alone I would assume that the lesson of the episode would be about being a sore loser and how you cant always win in life so you shouldnt get so angry when you lose and that lesson would be taught by our Paragon of Goodness Ladybug, but its not. Ladybug doesnt talk to her about being a sore loser and has one of those 'say the moral outloud' kids media-moments, she just gets de-evilized and seems too exhausted to be angry anymore and thats how that ends. The actual lesson, the one that Marinette needs to learn, is how to say no to things and that its okay to accept help and not burden yourself with responsibility so much. And thats a good lesson but its so disconnected from the bulk of the episode in a way that it really shouldnt be

Im also suprised that a show with this premise doesnt have more conclusion-scenes where, after Ladybug saved the day, Marinette goes up to the akumatized person and tries to cheer them up. Like, a lot of the people who get akumatized are pretty much strangers to her so I get why she doesnt go up to those (although I still think she could spare some encouraging words for them in her Ladybug suit considering the experience they just went through), but a lot of them are her classmates and it would demonstrate why Marinette is a good Ladybug, whether shes transformed or not. As it stands, there are episodes where she is that Paragon Of Goodness that teaches other people lessons and episodes where shes just clumsy impulsive Marinette who needs to learn how to be more confident and responsible. That might be intentional, but because the villains and Marinette in civillian form are so disconnected, I dont think the dichotomy here works very well.

And the thing is, she actually does reach out the akuma victim as Marinette in Origins. Honestly, most of the issues I named arent present in Origins, with the exception of Hawk Moth being hard to take seriously; Adrien actually has an endearing personality when not Cat Noir and you understand why Marinette likes him so much, Marinette and her civillian persona feel less disconnected from the Ladybug stuff because she actually talks to Ivan and her learning to be more confident as a heroine helping her become more confident and assertive in her daily life is really good, even if the lessons of "talk honestly about your feelings" and "be more confident and have faith in yourself" arent directly connected either (although still arguably more than the two lessons in Stormy Weather)

Origins as a whole is a far better episode than any other season 1 episode and really feels likethe set-up for a far better and more interesting show. I really think the main thing holding this entire season back is the fact that its episodic and we didnt get to see Marinette and Adrien develop as heroes or anything else, we just kinda smashcut to their 'default' dynamics and while we can ultimately guess how those dynamics ended up developing from Origins onwards, we really shouldnt have to guess, we shouldve seen it because it wouldve been fun and interesting and the show would be much better.

Considering the fact that they jump straight into serialization with season 2 and european cartoons having continuity is pretty common, I have no idea why they would start out episodic like this when all it does is drag the series down. My best guess is that they were trying to imitate popular american cartoons at the time, which usually started with the first season being entirely episodic and then having a big season finale that changes the status quo in some major way before it continues in a more serialized format. But why they did it doesnt really matter, all that matters is that the show is worse for it, although definitely not bad or unsalvagable. This is a very solid start for what couldve been a great show, but just kinda ended up being pretty bad instead

Daniel Abt - Stupidest thing you've ever done?

Ignoring stuff that ended up upsetting/hurting people (not physically) because I was a paranoid asshole/reactionary rule enforcer 4-5 years ago (not fun for anyone to hear about) I'd have to go with the kinda shit I would pull as a maladjusted 12 year old and then as a numb 19 year old.

Snuck my first beers with my friends when I was 12 and threw it all up, got chased by security guards while pouring dishwashing liquid into local fountains around town, lots of picking/getting into physical fights. Stopped when a knife got pulled on a classmate in an area I'd hung around in. I mellowed out once we moved up north and away from rural areas. 2018, though, I took part in lots of reckless behaviours as my depression kept me inside all day and made me numb to everything going on around me. i'd go out and stay out till morning, hopping from house party to house party, drinking way too much. Went to the waterfront drunk (not safe) and wanted to jump off the diving board into the ocean but I couldn't get past the chain. Went to a couple bushraves which honestly weren't that bad. Worst was when I went to one apartment block thats veeery well known in the city for its disgusting state.

Looked like an abandoned hospital (holes in walls, broken doors, disgusting, broken furniture and dirty floors) but people actually live there (god knows why its not safe and a dude got hospitalized after drinking a shot that fell on the floor). I was smart enough to only ever drink what I brought, but my friend got into an argument with one of the girls who lived there and we ended up getting chased down 4 flights of stairs, up the road and around the corner to hide in a mcdonalds till 2am cos the girl who got fucked off with him broke her bottle and went at us with what was left.

she and my friend are friends now, weirdly enough. he ran into her at another party a year later and it turned out she thought he'd said something way worse than what he actually did and they found they actually get along pretty well.

dont think i could ever replicate the feeling you get going from chatting idly to some random people in a hallway only for your friend of 7 years who you've never seen feel fear once to gun it to your side and go "WE NEED TO LEAVE." as this girl comes out of a room with half a bottle, screaming.

so i started watching gundam witch of mercury

it has a few weak ep in the beginning in the first season, but i rly ended up liking it. ep 12 was p good.

then i started the second season but i had to stop in the middle of ep 3.

um its where. earthians, i.e. citizens on earth who have to live under strict rules in the damaged remains of buildings, only get 2l of water a day, only receive 1500 calories a day, are being exploited for space development by spacians, i.e. ppl living in space and on like mercury and shit, mining resources. well at the end of season 1 a group of earth terrorists - financed/controlled by one half-earthian orphan who was adopted by a spacian business empire family - attack one planet and try to kill a ceo of some space company.

and the other spacians know its been earthian terrorists, so they go to earth to uh, attack the terrorists and stop them for doing any more terrorism. and so earthians start to evacuate. because. the terrorists were living in one community, but the spacians literally dont care and would shoot them all, right.

so they evacuate and the terrorists make a plan to get into their mobile suits and distract the spacians so the other ppl can evacuate and uh, not be killed.

well the spacians bomb a school. where. some kids ran to cuz. there was the son of a spacian ceo held hostage. you know. and a terrorist realized kids ran there and ran after them to get them out and to get them to evacuate you know.

but the spacians bomb the school. you know. and the building is bombed. its like. hit pretty hard. lots of wreckage. guy was knocked out and wakes up and one of the kids is buried under the rubble. and he lifts the rubble with his cyborg arm easily, thankfully, but like. the kid is dead. under the rubble. and previously we got a flashback of the guys actual child also dying in a similar attack.

so. thats when i hit pause and had to do something else.

anyway. the second season aired from Apr 9, 2023 to Jul 2, 2023.

im not sure if i can finish watching this. if i even want to finish watching this.

i dont know man.

like. i dont know what i expected. like sure. mechas are weapons. it will be about war. and death. but i thought, well okay, gundam are toys, right? this is like. a toy commercial, basically. with anime crap. you know.

but. yeah.

so like. it really shows how whats happening - whats been happening for most of our history - is just. its visible. people see it. people witness it. people make stories about what they heard or read or saw and. its just.

theres this kinda. we all know it. we know that whats happening isnt right. everybody knows it. even those saying they support a genocide know its wrong. thats why they are defending it in the first place. its just. i dont know.

Turning 24

This blog comes right about the time I’m turning 24. I feel like I have lived through alot in a short time and gained some cool insight from people & experiences in my 24 years here. There’s alot more than 24 little lessons I could gather together but I’ll stick to 24 for now. I hope some of these call you to action or thought or even better, God.

1. Dont hold onto bitterness - living with anger & resentment halts growth and sometimes even opportunity. It’s not fun! Really lean into “Don’t let the sun go down on your anger”.

2. Have a servants heart - who can you be serving in your life? Do you need poured into too? Check who’s filling your cup and whose cup you’re filling.

3. Halt the worst case scenario mindset - don’t live life in worry of the worst happening. Some scenarious call for worst case prep but if it’s causing you anxiety, halt it!

4. Set aside time to be in the secret place - if you feel like you have no time for God, change your schedule.

5. Choose fellowship & community over isolation - sometimes, you gotta fight the urge to stay home and watch netflix instead of fellowship time with others. It could be just what you need! Go be with people.

6. Be confident in who God made you to be - He made you just the way you are meant to be, why want to change that when your very own Creator is perfect?

7. Awkward is fake & made up - that thing you thought was really awkward? You might be the only one who thought it was… and if not? It’ll either be forgotten or you might just be showing someone else that they’re not alone in feeling or being ‘awkward’.

8. Be real with those who value you - we all go through tough times, and the only way to know you’re not the only one who’s been through it is to share. Tell your friends what you need help with and prayer for.

9. Nothing in this world actually brings joy - just Jesus. That’s it.

10. Thank God continually for blessings & trials - remember to thank God for everything He provides daily, even the hard lessons & trials! Knowing He is good and has a purpose coming to fruition is something to be grateful for.

11. Stop overthinking - it’s so easy to get into your head and overthink things, daily! Work on stopping the overthinking process when you realize that it’s happening.

12. No one has it all together - not even the big adults with the big jobs. Everyone is just doing their best.

13. Take more photos, but at good times - as opposed to bad times where you aren’t being present! Capture moments with your eyes & mind’s eye first, then, if so led, take out the camera.

14. No more comparison game - cut out whatever is causing you to compare. Social media? Gossip from friends? TV shows? Out.

15. Read more, but get audible - I always have new books I want to read but I have trouble finishing books/feeling like I have time to read. Get the audiobook & listen while running errands, doing chores; it’ll cut the time in half!

16. Go for the ice cream - Period.

17. Patience goes a long way - pause before responding, and take a breath before getting annoyed. Alot can happen in those few seconds that will go a longggg way.

18. Let God write your love story - He’ll do it better than you could ever do on your own.

19. Communicate with everyone - bad communication is like, the #1 thing that leads to issues. All over the world. Everywhere. Communicate! I am speaking to myself here too; don’t put off texting people back. Just do it.

20. Go listen to The Beautiful Letdown album - Switchfoot’s lyrics are speaking to the world more and more and share such good gospel based messages. Pivotal album, go listen.

21. Baking can be therapy - try it out! Especially when you’re going to give it to others.

22. Lean on God and trust His sovereignty - in every question, decision, emotion, anything, trust that He has it under control and if you’re living in His will, you can live without fear.

23. We’re all in different seasons. Give grace - a reason why we should share with each other what we’re going through. If not, we don’t know what kind of season someone’s in, and can judge their actions or behavior. Give grace, as you want grace too.

24. Go for a walk - it can be silent, a talk with God, listen to a podcast/book, getting exercise, to let go of emotion. Whatever the reason, even if for no reason, get a nice walk in.

the way the initial reaction to s4 was blown to be because of brooklynn and kenji. not saying it isn’t justified as i get ppl can be uncomfortable w it, but the fact is that it wasn’t about how darius wasn’t really given the space to show emotion even as the main character. he’s the youngest and has the overwhelming pressure of being leader while dealing with loss and the season told us no he did not notice other people having nightmares implying that he doesn’t have them (they could’ve said “wait, the others are having nightmares *too*?” but they didn’t). for gods sake dreamwork’s post about “this is what a natural born leader looks like” That boy is traumatized beyond belief

why are they so afraid to show us him suffering the traumatic effects of the events that have happened so far. And anyways i started off with mentioning the fan reaction at first because when i first watched it i didn’t notice it until someone pointed it out. and man, when that was brought to my attention…the proportion of people angry over the ship vs over how darius was treated in writing. like i like camp cretaceous for diversity. i love the fact they have a black character as the main one. but they’ve been treating darius like he’s indestructible. He’s 12/13 how are you going to treat the main kid like this

1.) the responsibility of keeping 5 other people alive. he’s just a kid and even older people would have that eating away at him. did no one try and comfort darius about ben aside from yaz. no one just asking how he was doing sure they brought ben up but more as a “we all think about him” moment. knowing how critical darius is of himself why weren’t we given moments where it focused more on his guilt. we got one nightmare in the first episode and it being brought up in the reunion but…the lack of clarity we have on his feelings aside from the one-off Yeah he feels guilty okay back to survival really bugs me the more i think about it bc it clearly stuck w him enough to affect his self sacrificing mindset

2.) nearly died on the boat! he almost drowned and got eaten by a mosasaurus and i know the boat ship wrecked immediately after and they’re all “used to being at risk for death” but why did they all agree to let this kid down. no one but kenji jumping in to save him like it’s nice that they show him as not the one that always saves people but. Him being the first to ask if they’re alright when they wash up on the island. no one asking if he’s okay after suffering the water (honestly howd they all get on the island without drowning or getting eaten they were pretty far but that’s another thing).

3.) bringing up his dad only to have darius use him as a device in his lie and having kash discount that as a lie! i get that man is terrible but doing that to darius esp w us knowing he’s still grieving (cause there’s no way he’s gotten over it even if it’s been 6 months. stacked trauma on grief = Not Processed Properly!). and having darius only bring his dad up for that purpose when grief is still fresh. Man. Man i just think about it and i get pissed

4.) was held hostage by a white man. i get it. he’s bad but the amount of times darius had to appease that man made me so sick. the simple act of being held hostage is traumatizing in itself and he was with this horrible ass man who tortures dinosaurs (one of the last connections he has to his father), being watched over by robots nonstop even when he’s trying to sleep, knowing that if he makes one wrong move kash could easily decide to kill him; this emotionally volatile man, Almost having to contribute to the project before brooklynn hacked BRAD-X. it’s like they can only show him be vulnerable if he’s in physically precarious situations where his knowledge can’t save him

5.) during that part we dont see darius process the situation in his own time. sure there might’ve been a crunch where it would’ve interrupted the plot but you know what? we didn’t need all those brooklynn and kenji scenes either. s3 worked so well bc we had equal time in all the dynamics they wanted to show us and from the start of s4 that was clearly skewed (the fact that romance wasn’t ever a big factor in jwcc and just. the amt of screentime). we didn’t get to see darius being comforted by someone other than brooklynn for less than a minute about the tension between kenji and him, and we don’t even see ben and darius interact. not even through ship goggles. yaz and sammy were shown talking aside from the large chunk that brooklyn and kenji took up. Why not darius feeling distraught over how kenji is treating him. i’m just saying if there was a time issue and bc of that not being able to focus on how darius is feeling, MAKE TIME. that’s how i’d understand b/k being brought up as much as it did; bc it intrudes on darius’ time and the equal spread of dynamics. they couldve added in a moment where darius had time to himself in his designated bedroom while hostage (which we don’t get to see. why) and thinking to himself. What was he eating during his time there. all we are shown is how much he’s suffering bc of the things he’s forced to do to survive under kash but he still doesn’t break. he has to keep going

6.) i’m hoping this overt treatment was only for this season bc they did show his dad feelings (if only for a little s1-2) and his feelings of guilt toward ben (s2-3) but while this can be interpreted as him repressing his emotions for the sake of keeping the group going, we haven’t been shown that in a specific moment. this is all still speculation even as obvious as it seems to me as a viewer i’m just trying to make sense of what they’ve given us in canon. can we have darius show us how he himself is feeling without having it based off another person

the one thing i enjoyed is darius having been given space to finally have to choose between dinos and his friends. he may have had his eyes set on the obvious choice back when he was arguing with sammy about releasing that dinosaur, and i can see how he’d be stuck between the big picture of the right thing vs the local right thing (although it’s strange how thatd usually be a choice made in a healthier mindset where you’re given the space to think abt morals rather than a need to survive in which the obvious choice would be to save your friends. perhaps it can be explored as a way for darius to hold onto his sense of self/his father) but i’m glad they showed there’s not always a compromise which is what they had darius do in the past 3 seasons. that was a nice moment, i had thought….until immediately hes in the hostage situation, having to lie about his father, and deciding to stay in the hostage situation (seriously. ben and yaz the only ones logical enough to say NO to his plan…my favorite trio for real). and you know it’s nice that they gave us ben and darius’ arcs reflecting off one another, but the fact that ben feels like he progressed more than darius (from his identity confusion to finding himself, and from “i don’t want to hurt by leaving dinos behind again” to “i will open up despite the vulnerability”) having two different starts and endings…i don’t know. feels really off. technically all the kids are main characters but darius was introduced as the main main one. s3 gave us some emotional vulnerability when he was fighting to save ben, desperate not to repeat his mistakes, and this was one of the times where he gets to confide in someone (the other being sammy while he was being critical of himself before she tries to say it isn’t his fault and he immediately counters her with Get to the boat. so. not rly) and while it’s a Woo ben and darius bonding moment giving fuel to how they can understand and confide in one another, i just wish that wasn’t the only instance and we had another one where darius got to talk about his dad and all the complex feelings he must be having. it makes sense for him to repress it to keep moving forward in fear of not being able to function but that’s all speculation. as a kid whose brain is still malleable (like the others but since he’s the youngest) he should NOT be left to do this i just know he’s fighting inner demons

my point is: even if he wasn’t a COMPLETE plot device in this season like how people are saying (not complete bc as little as they were we got peeks into his psyche. Even if it was only for a minute total adding up), i totally get why they do say that because the ratio of his inner struggles vs what the show focuses on is so skewed. as the main character, shouldn’t we have more insight on how he’s feeling aside from having to speculate off things given to us in s1? and from the way the fanbase treats this boy sometimes, like multiple people saying they didn’t know that darius was the main character because of how much of the fandom is focused on other things…yeah. alright. like 2 people i saw talking abt his treatment this season whats w that. maybe this fandom treatment in itself is a sign of how much the show itself doesn’t flesh him out as much as it should, but i can easily counter that considering how much the fanbase fills in the blanks with other topics. i’m holding out for s5’s treatment in hopes they actually spend some time exploring his feelings and that this was just so they could have space to introduce elements, but it’s a flimsy hope because they had the space to explore other campers feelings and just. urghhhhhh.

I remember when I was watching season 2 for the first time, I was really upset that we were getting this new main cast that we would only follow for 12 episodes because I thought I wouldnt be able to form an emotional attachment to them. And this was warranted because it took me a weirdly long time to get attached to like, Sebastian and Ciel (I was gonna say 'the main cast' but I didnt really care about anyone else at the time lmao) when I was watching the first season, it took like 13 episodes for me to get emotionally invested at all. I have no idea why because like, Black Butler is well written (and also I had literally no standards at the time so its not like the writing mattered) and I really liked Sebaciel as a ship it was the whole reason I started watching, but i didnt really care about any of the characters. So when I went into season 2 I was like "i cant care about this stupid fucken guy, hes gonna be dead by the time I start forming an emotional attachment whyyyy cant I just watch the guys I know for another 12 episodes :(" and yea. Guess what happened. yea I got attached to Alois and was perfectly fine with the idea of following only the Trancy household within ten minutes of the first episode

But that kinda made me think about what that version of season 2 would look like yknow. Like what if Ciel really did die and he and Sebastian werent there to bother Alois n gang

It seems like Alois has this title of 'the queens spider' but I dont think they ever really explain what that entails and also Alois never does jack shit. I know it has something to do with the underworld like Ciels job, but I get the impression that he did his job so well that Alois literally never had to do anything, he could just kinda chill out being rich and not worry. I think it would be neat if Alois got contacted by some messenger of the queen after Ciels death like "heyyyy. the 13 year old we usually send out to do our dangerous illegal shit just died and youre another 13 year old with a similar job, so go investigate this suspicious string of murders" and he kinda starts freaking out bc he was aware of the job, he just never had to really do anything

Idk I just think it could be neat to have Alois try the queens watchdog thing and be worse at it because hes inexperienced and also because Claude sucks and isnt a great help. For the emotional arc you could keep the conflict where Alois loves Claude and wants to be loved but Claude is just kinda apathetic and Hannah loves Alois but Alois is too focused on trying to gain Claudes affection. You could also maybe explore the mental and physical toll that being the replacement queens watchdog would take on Alois, because honestly, I dont think he has the mental stability required for that kinda job yknow. And since I love manipulative women, maybe Hannah could try to take advantage of his weakness in some way to try and get him away from Claude (she wouldnt be framed as like, evil for doing this because I refuse to write bullshit like that, but Alois would definitely be upset). I dont really know how this version of season 2 would end though. I mean, it would end with Alois being reuinted with Luka within Hannahs body like in the original I think, but idk what could possibly lead up to it because honestly, the original season 2 finale is already pretty convoluted ngl. eh who knows
