The Fifth, travel to the land of glory and ask the Pyro Archon for a trophy from her conquests.

The Sixth, travel to the land of frozen hearts and retrieve a drop of love from The Cryo Archon.

And lastly, the Seventh, return to the land of Contracts and make haste to Jueyun Karst wherein one must retrieve no less than 3 blessings from 3 different adepti, by sundown present the items to the closest Liyue statue of seven.

Should they fail, they will return to the monastery as a divorcee.

This was actually the exact story that got me into mythology!

To further build on this, Morax had stopped being mad a lot sooner than expected, but because he’s the god of contracts, he couldn’t go back on his word or make an exception to the rules. It’s this world’s equivalent of Aphrodite tormenting Psyche whole Eros himself is begging his mom to just let it go already.

Perhaps Wifey is injured pretty bad, or all the stress has had an awful toll on them. When they pass out at the foot of his statue, that’s when he figures out the loophole of he’s an adeptus, he approval can count. Maybe Wifey’s pregnant like Psyche was in the story, and when they pass out that’s when Morax goes “shit shit shit shit shit I fucked up BAD-”

When he forgives them, instead of Psyche drinking ambrosia and becoming a goddess, it’s Morax claiming Wifey and giving them that good adeptal healing.

This whole ordeal is STILL occasionally used as leverage by Wifey whenever they don’t want to do something, and Morax won’t do anything about it because yeah the whole travelling to seven nations for forgiveness thing was definitely an overreaction on his part.

Oh, oh but also imagine you’re Morax, and your wife was arranged to marry you against their will. They see your true form, and while sending them back is technically punishment, they’re also getting their freedom back. That’s why he made the trials so ridiculous and complicated, but Wifey does them anyways. This begs the question; if failure means going back to the monastery they were raised in, why are they so determined not to go home?

Come to think of it, why would this woman offer up such a meek, anxious little shrine caretaker up so easily? If it’s true they were born and raised here, that makes them family. This woman offered up her basically grandchild, the pride and joy of the monastery, the first chance she got. Why would she do that to such a sweet soul? Why is this caretaker so determined not to be reunited with their precious family that they would possibly risk death to stay with the god they were unwillingly wed to?

Sorry can I rant about lantern rite in your inbox? It was just so… disappointing, I came away feeling like I had wasted my time. First of all, it was nothing like the first trailer showed it would be. That line about “it’s good to take off the mask once in a while,” I was so excited for Venti and Xiao to be able to to put down their facades for a night and just be authentic but that’s not what happened in the slightest. Hoyo layered Venti’s obnoxious mortal bard act on thicker than it normally is. Literally none of that was the thoughtful authentic Venti I love, it almost felt like a whole different character. And then there’s Xiao. The trailer made it seem like he’d be battling his karma debt so he could be around people and finally enjoy lantern rite and it’d be a really serious storyline. Nope. Xiao showed up because Hu Tao mentioned her ancestors worked with the yakshas and Xiao was like “welp I guess I have to come then” ?? Xiao hates being around people, the traveler has been trying to get him to join in for two lantern rites and he refused each time because he doesn’t want to hurt people but Hu Tao shows up and suddenly he’s game? And when he was there it was so awkward. He seemed incredibly uncomfortable and it made it hard to enjoy the cutscenes. Honestly, I don’t blame him. I thought this was going to continue the storyline of helping Xiao get used to modern Liyue and come out of his shell a bit. It was a milestone, his first lantern rite with people. But if I were Xiao, after that I’d never want to be in a room with more than two people ever again.

That whole thing was one big game of “don’t let the others know we know each other” between Venti Zhongli Xiao and also Xingqiu apparently. At first Venti and Zhongli’s dynamic of passive aggressively complimenting each other so it sounds like insults was pretty funny, but it just kept going and quickly became stale. Not to mention, knowing that it made Xiao uncomfortable took all the humor out of it. That was our first in game archon interaction and it fell flat.

And Hu Tao, she was worse than both the archons, asking Xiao on his opinions on Zhongli being an adeptus. Not entirely out of character, but annoying nonetheless. Also, Hu Tao is like the Kaeya of Liyue. It’s never been revealed in canon that she knows the archon’s identities, but we still know that she knows somehow anyway.

Back to Venti though, again, he seemed out of character. I could se Hu Tao doing what she did. I can’t see Zhongli being that petty, but I don’t care about him enough to be mad at his mischaracterization. Venti however was treated like a joke. He was so damn inconsiderate of Xiao. Traveler was right, it was his fault (among others) that Xiao had such a bad time. He kept being petty with Zhongli with no regard for the other guests and how much tension and awkwardness he was creating. Venti would never upset someone he knew was an introvert. Venti would be the best person to have with you at large social gathering because he would be considerate. Again, I just feel so bad for Xiao, it’s like half the people at that table don’t give a shit about him.

On the subject of Venti, why was he even there? He didn’t do anything important, his appearance was not serious and comforting like it was portrayed in the trailer. If anything, his appearance actively made things worse, which is something I thought I’d never say. It breaks my heart to see him portrayed in that way. He’s a bit of a harmless menace sometimes, but he’s not a straight up asshole. He mentioned he was there for the music festival and the traveler thought to themself about how the festival was a last minute thing so how did he know, implying that Venti was there for a different reason- but they just never elaborate on it. Why create suspicion like that if it doesn’t matter? And anyway, he wasn’t even at the music festival. Frankly, I think he should have been in it. He deserved better than to be shoehorned into the epilogue as comic relief. He’s a bard, he should have had the spotlight. Erika killed it at Weinlesefest with her impromptu singing, imagine how well she’d do with a backing track. At least it’d be loads better than whatever happened with Hu Tao and Xinyan. Honestly, I think Hoyo was only trying to copy Erika’s Weinlesefest success with that. Bad move, can’t top the original, should have just let Venti do it. (For the record even though I was not impressed with the performance, I don’t think it was the VAs fault, and I definitely don’t appreciate seeing them harassed over a game.)

Gotta say, my favorite part has to be Venti’s interactions with Xingqiu, an unlikely duo, but I found their shared appreciation of writing to be cute and endearing. I liked watching them nerd out together. And Hu Tao also had some good interactions with Venti (when she wasn’t bullying Xiao) I kind of want to see the three of them in a poetry club together just talking about literature and whatnot. I just really like their dynamic, my weird little poetry nerds deserve some time to themselves. <3

The interactions between Xingqiu Xianling and Chongyun were also pretty good. They felt like just a nice authentic conversation between friends. Xingqiu being a baby and giving away his carrots then getting scolded for it, I love him sm.

Back to the criticism, the cutscenes as a whole were really awkward aside from a few nice moments. Thanks to certain people there was a layer of tension in the air the entire time. And what even was that second half? We were fighting over who was going to light the incense before settling on Paimon? Why? What was the point of that? It wasn’t funny or entertaining aside from some of the expressions. It just confused me more than anything. Overall, we talked a lot, but it still feels like nothing happened you know? I was like “the first archon meet up and Xiao’s first real lantern rite, obviously there will be a plot to this, something really interesting is going to happen.” Nope. Venti mentioned he and Xiao had a conversation recently, and while I’m not a Xiaoven shipper in any way, I bet it was more interesting than what we saw. What could prompt an archon from another nation and an adeptus to talk? Is this their first time seeing each other since that time in Xiao’s story quest lore? Or do they meet up every once in a while? We should’ve gotten lore.

Even after the cutscene, the part where we went around and talked to the characters was weird. Why was Yanfai who had 50 seconds of screentime before being literally dragged offscreen by Ganyu there but Shenhe wasn’t, and more importantly, why did we hardly get to talk to anyone at all. We only spoke to Zhongli Yaoyao and Xiao (who only said like three lines). With everyone else it was like we were eavesdropping on their conversations which just felt awkward. I know I’ve said awkward some 15 times now, but if I had to choose one word to sum up the lantern rite epilogue, that would be it. It might be nitpicking but the eavesdropping thing made me a bit uncomfortable, I don’t see why we couldn’t just talk directly to everyone and have an actual personal conversation like we did after gaa and Weinlesefest. I only enjoyed the chat between Xingqiu Hu Tao Chongyun and Xianling because I really like the dynamic those characters have. Venti at the end of the cutscenes was like “bye traveler, come talk to me later on the crux” when what he really meant was “bye traveler, come watch me complain to Kazuha about how Beidou won’t indulge my alcoholism later on the crux.” Although credit where credit is due, Erika did really well in that interaction. The voice acting and expressions for the epilogue were pretty good.

I’ll admit that when I first heard leaks of windblume coming in 3.5 I was like great for Venti lovers, but I kind of feel bad for the people that don’t. Having to see him appear back to back when their fav probably hasn’t shown up in forever doesn’t seem fair. Now I think that it wouldn’t be fair if we didn’t get windblume. Venti’s appearance here and everything surrounding it was just so disappointing that I think we’re owed an event with Venti that’s actually good. I enjoyed the first windblume and Weinlesefest (they’re not Venti’s story quest levels of amazing but I liked them) so I have high hopes for this if it turns out to be true, all I can say is it better be.

Wow, I feel a lot better now. Sorry again. You don’t have to read all that, I just had a lot of thoughts. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the epilogue as well if you’d like.

Let me just start off by saying this LR sucked. Like not just the epilogue the entire thing was bad. It felt like it was written by an intern that started work at Hoyoverse three weeks ago. The first two stories feel completely disjointed from the epilogue like the idea for the epilogue came last and they HAD to put it in there. Too many characters got too much screen time: Ganyu's boring ass and Zhongli. While others did not get enough: YANFEI, Shenhe, I'll say Yelan as well actually, BEIDOU, fucking Kazuha (Like seriously why is Kazuha never at the LR if any character from another nation deserves to attend one of these it's fucking Kazuha. Like he was on the ship?? Why didn't he head into the city with Beidou?? What is he grounded or something?, Qiqi never gets time to shine and it sucks they clearly don't know what the fuck to do with her. Ningguang also didn't get enough screen time.

It felt like they put all the characters on a check list and go ok who do we need to be in the story now? Him alright just put him in there I guess, oh yeah she needs screentime too uh uh throw her into this scene. There are too many Liyue characters now.

You know the best part of the Weinlesifest? The fact that every character even if not utilized well feels like they had a place in the story. Everyone had some kind of part to play and it felt good to run into any character at any time but they cannot do it well when it comes to Liyue. It clearly can't work anymore.

I do want to talk about the things I enjoyed though because despite it all the LR did have somethings that weren't awful. I loved Xinyan showing up again I really like her character and I wish she could've gotten a reunion with Venti too. I was so incredibly happy to see Shenhe even though she did basically nothing and if you took her out of the story nothing would change. (She's my wife though 🥺) Guizhong is so so hot and I'm mad that she's dead because I want her to be playable more than any other character we've gotten so far. I'm normally not into short women but omg. Chongyun was so freaking cute and I loved watching him Xiangling and Xingqiu all being together the less Xingyun (singular) the better. I love how awkward the scene of Traveler walking up to the funeral parlor was. Hu Tao is just badly rapping and Xinyan is playing on the guitar and Traveler was like: 😶😬 now that's how you utilize cringe correctly! I'm a huge Xiaother shipper as you already know seeing as your on my page so ANY interaction between Xiao and Aether are some of my favorite things ever! I really enjoyed seeing Venti geek over the Crux Fleet and his friendship with Kazuha is so freaking cute!! If I wasn't scared of that ship getting a bigger following I would hope that we could get more of them in the future. And last but not least despite how genuinely awful Venti was in this event over all and how unneeded he was he is still my favorite bard and he is so cute. His expressions were precious and I cannot begin to explain how happy I was that they didn't reset and just have Venti forget Xingqiu. Thank all the archons that they still know each other it was nice to watch them interact again. And of course I like that the brought back Hu Tao's love of poetry in the form of her interactions with Venti. It felt so unbelievably sweet how well those two get along. I'm always happy to see Venti making a new friend.

Gonna speed run the things I hated because all of this is super long and everyone is gonna hate me for how much they'll have to scroll to get through this answer on my blog. (I'll put a read more later)

I slightly disagree with the thing you said about Xiao showing up because of Hu Tao talking about her ancestors working with the Yakasha's. I feel like Xiao was already moving in the direction of being willing to interact with other's as it was and after Perilous Trails he realized that he could be a little more lenient with his interactions so long as the people around him possess elemental power. He also slightly suggest that hearing Hu Tao talk about the guests possessing such power meant Traveler would be among them and that was also a reason for him to join as well. Though I do agree that if anyone should've been able to convince Xiao it should've been Traveler one hundred percent. They did all the work in breaking down Xiao's walls and Hu Tao gets the credit???? Fuck off 🙄

Xiao being awkward was both cute and sad. Cute because he's so jittery and restless that he looks like a lost puppy. But sad because I know exactly what that feeling is like. I wouldn't say he hates being around people so much as he just isn't used to it. He's always playing keep away because he's worried about his karma and doesn't want the people around him to be affected by it. Hu Tao was being so weirdly prying towards him and I know she was joking but I wish she would've just left him be. Felt more like an interrogation than jokey joke poking fun between friends. Plus Venti was so full of energy and high strung that Xiao seemed to be poorly taking in that energy while not being able to give the same back. He clearly doesn't know how to communicate with Venti (more reasons why xiaoven is fucking dumb). I'm pretty sure the conversation Venti refers to though is the one in the Trailer however. I felt pretty bad for Xiao too his first proper interaction with humans should've been at a dinner between the Perilous Trails cast not these guys.

Tiny little paragraph to say that almost the entire dinner made me feel uncomfortable. Especially the way everyone was praising each other for doing their normal jobs?? It didn't feel like they were doing it genuinely (except for a couple interactions) it felt like being forced to go to a family reunion where everyone's trying to be polite and not bring up the recent family controversy. and oh ive figured out why inazuma quests where lacking (at least for me)

so yeah. like i finished the sumeru quests and it was basically the same as the inazuma one. except they didn't put any of it away to legendaries and instead just made it whole

which yeah. maybe they weren't sure about inazuma when it just came out. but like. mond quest was full. it had the aftermath and all right there. were they trying smth new? was it a schedule issue? who fucking knows

but yeah. it's not that bad a quest even if the whole thing about raiden being tragic was a bit much for me. like. she was basically a dictator but I should feel bad for her and not for her people hoyoverse?

I mean. Considering political climate in China having rebels be good guys at all is kind cool. But still.

so yeah. that's my thought. gonna be going through the story quests, both archon and legendary, kinda fast in the coming days. i have neuvi guaranteed, but I also want wriothesley (literally because of people's fanart, bark bark awooga and all that) and i hope to have primos by the end of neuvi's banner. at least enough to try for a 50/50

yeah, been talking a lot in a server about my problems with inazuma, and half the story not being there despite that missing half obviously having a lot of weight on the story is a big part of it. like, why should i care so much about tepppei when we've not been shown teppei more than two times? i want to care about teppei, i can think of reasons for why his death is so important to traveler, but i'm not being SHOWN IT.

and raiden being solely tragic is so strange because of all the things we've not been shown in the inazuma archon quest, raiden's callousness and cold power is like the one (1) thing we did get to see. and the visions being given back, so raiden doesn't have those 99 tortured souls on her conscience, is such an obvious marketing choice because us using the power within the visions, the last ambitions of the owners, was such a big part of the finale that the visions still having power is such a dumb choice. i guess it's because it was such recent crimes against her people, that they kind of removed any consequences for it, because zhongli did get to keeps his morally grey nuances in his story quests (and raiden's were, as you said, purely oh woe is me)

i actually think there's a reason for why inazuma lacked and why the writing went so downhill for that region in particular (or well, for that archon quest). probably some behind the scenes drama with writers stepping down close to the deadline. that would make sense with how they very obviously had a big plan for the archon quest, like sumeru was going to be, but somewhere along the line, the story didn't get written.

the world quests for inazuma are so good!!! they're really sad, but they're all following the theme of "you can't change the past, but you can try to put its ghosts to rest", and i just love that so much. i'd definitely recommend doing them if you have time for it. (also, just like in sumeru, some regions in inazuma won't really be unlocked until after the quests have been done).

Starting off with a secret event that HoYoverse set up, if players want to get to the event banner, they have to meet certain someone to unlock the event. In this case, the reader is electro and polearm user [and is using signature weapon when in burst mode, which is a scythe.]

Act Ⅰ

Quest starting with a rumors going around Liyue that caught Paimon attention, she suggested to dig further more information in this topic about an adepti that grants insanely amount of luck. At first, traveler was decline the idea, but their companion insisted on it.

And thus, traveler was forced to agree and made a snarky comment about how greedy Paimon is! This moment set a meme on the community, the second one after emergency food. Traveler and their companion went to search for this adeptus, and ask madame ping about it. She was... Surprised, and look sad, confused at the same time!

Madame ping told them about the adepti.

The cutscenes was beautiful, the soundtrack and everything. Madame ping said: "they were once the assistant of the lord of geo archon, helping him on growing a civilization. Managing everyone needs, helping everyone with anything they could." In this part of the cutscenes, showing the reader handling all the paperwork, helping the locals, and checking everything, building through building.

The narration goes on. "The ancient assistant consider the weakest of lack energy when it comes to battle, this lead to many conflict between them, and the vigilant yaksha." Cutscenes continue with showing the ancient assistant alone, being away from other adepti's.

"when the archons war happens, the war it's almost ended, the yaksha's couldn't handle more karmatic debt, leading them dying on the battle, leaving the vigilant yaksha completely alone in the battle field. The lord of geo was about to win the battle, but the lack of soldiers, and the yaksha's dying, at that point, they were about to lose the battle.

And thus, the ancient assistant sacrifices themselves to end the war by using all the energy that they've been saving from the starts." The assistant in the middle of battle field, with many enemy serounding them, the vigilant yaksha can only watch from distance afar and extend his right hand, look like screaming for their name in horror.

The final cutscenes was the vigilant yaksha holding the ancient assistant in his arms, serounded by pool of dead bodies and blood of allies and enemy, "theirs and others sacrifices will be remembered by everyone of Liyue." Ended with black teal streaks haired yaksha pulling [h/c] with purple streaks assistant closer and the view goes up into the golden red sky.

Back to madame ping, traveler, and Paimon.

"that just made Paimon feel guilty..." Paimon said with sad voice, "but, Paimon doesn't get it why this will lead us to the adepti.. plus! It doesn't sound so connect to the rumors." Traveler just keep staring Paimon, madame ping laugh, "one must go continue their adventure, one is expecting for your arrival. Go now, I'm sure he expected to see you two."

Traveler and Paimon goes to wangshu inn with a plate of almond tofu in hands, hoping to summon the vigilant yaksha in the balcony. Turns out he was already there, with his arms crossed, looking into the distance, "hey there almighty Xiao!" "Hello Xiao."

"... What schemes you're plotting.." he sigh, "nevermind. Speak. what businesses make you go to seek for my presence."

Traveler told Xiao everything

Author’s Note: Did something a little different by changing which character perspective it was for different prompts. I found it a good way to explore this particular prompt.

Albedo

The moment Albedo walked out of his office door he felt his stomach sink a bit.

Though the alchemist liked to think that he was a man of perfect rationality, whether by nature or by will, he couldn’t help but feel a knot in his stomach as he watched you talking to your ex.

Albedo knew that things hadn’t ended well in your last relationship, knew that there had been a lot of shouting and crying done by both parties, all culminating in you getting kicked out of your shared apartment. You didn’t like to talk about it even now, focusing on your relationship with Albedo instead of dwelling on the past. If any reminder of your ex ever surfaced you usually glared it before moving on.

That knowledge made your evidently awkward conversation all the worse. As you leaned against one of the beams which held up the alchemy front, seemingly distancing yourself as much as possible from the person in front of you, Albedo felt a sudden urge to run and wedge himself between the two of you. OF course he would never act upon something so unhelpful, but the alchemist was finding more and more that he’d be seized by illogical wishes the more he opened himself up to you.

Now he curbed his thoughts and made his way over, planting himself firmly next to you and not bothering to introduce himself beyond a curt nod. Not as if he needed an introduction anyways, as Albedo had run into your former partner a few times before, and the icy coldness between him and them was completely natural, at least on Albedo’s part.

“Ah Albedo!” You turned, smiling brightening for a moment. Placing a quick kiss on the alchemist’s cheek, something which caused warmth to immediately flood his face, you turned back towards your ex. “I’m sure you know about my partner, this is Albedo.”

“So you’ve been screwing around with this runt,” you ex shook his head as if disgusted. Narrowing his eyes, Albedo felt irritation wash over him, and for a moment he wondered if there was a potion that might indispose your ex for at least a week that could be easily hidden.

“Yes I’m currently in a relationship with him,” you replied, ignoring your ex’s jeer. “Not that it’s any of your business.”

“None of my business? Don’t I have the right to be worried for you?”

“Oh please,” you snorted. “If you really worried about me you wouldn’t have kicked me out. Now if you please I have something to do. I’m very glad to hear that you’re well and getting your life on track and everything, but in truth I think this is really awkward, so could you please give me at least a head’s up next time.”

“You’re still think you’re better than everyone,” your ex spat.

“No, they don’t.” Albedo heard himself say, finding himself more and more irritated by this conversation. “But though they would never admit it, they are certainly better than you. I suggest you listen to their warnings, otherwise there are a few elixirs that could certainly use a human test subject.”

Your ex’s face paled, and they let out a curse before turning away. Suddenly feeling very depleted of energy Albedo sighed.

“Hey, thanks for that.”

“Of course,” Albedo looked up at you. “You seemed uncomfortable.”

“I was,” you admitted. “They weren’t really listening to me, so thank you.”

Leaning over to kiss Albedo once more you stopped in surprise as your partner tilted his head so that your lips met his, instead of the cheek you were aiming for. Pulling back Albedo looked at the ground.

“Sorry, I realize that wasn’t what you were planning.”

“I don’t mind!” Your reply came fast. “I’m just surprised. You okay?”

“Of course I’m alright,” Albedo looked at you. “You should be more worried about yourself.”

“Why shouldn’t I be also worried about you?” You tilted your head. “I know that you don’t really like conflict. And I’m sure that was awkward for you as well.”

Albedo said nothing in reply, merely leaning over to kiss you gently on the forehead. You were so quick to notice things sometimes he couldn’t fathom it.

As the afternoon drifted on Albedo found himself once more thinking about how wonderful you were. There was no one in the world like you, no one nearly so precious to him, so worthy of love. If this was beyond the intelligence of a shadow of the past, well, what did it matter.

“Why don’t you just go back to them?”

You stared at your partner, surprised by the words that had just come out of his mouth. All day Xiao had been as prickly as a cactus, even more standoffish than usual, and all day you’d been trying to coax some words out of the silent yaksha who had taken to standing next to you all day. Now you wondered if that hadn’t been a mistake.

“What do you mean?” You felt your voice waver slightly. “Xiao why are you telling me to go back to my ex?”

You had run into a former significant other of yours at the Inn a day ago, as they had taken up a carpentry contract for the rotting bits of stairwell that made the Inn so difficult to manage sometimes. Though you two had long since been finished, the split had been amicable, and at the time it had felt nostalgic to simply chat with an old friend, a memory of an earlier part of your life when everything had been so different.

Though you were certainly aware that Xiao might have been watching, a suspicion confirmed by the adeptus’ questions that evening, you had never thought much of it. Sure it was your former partner, but it was too long ago to even think about now. You had been a dumb kid then, and though you might not be infallible now, you were certainly different. Standing across from your partner now you realized that not everyone appeared to hold the same opinon.

“Xiao, I know that I was talking to my ex yesterday, but just because I was doing so doesn’t mean I don’t love you or care about you. That was a very long time ago for me, if not for you, and I don’t see in them a partner anyone, I haven’t for years. I understand if you might not feel the same way regarding the timeframe, but there’s no reason to, well, I don’t know what you’re doing right now.”

You stared at your partner, who appeared to be glaring at the railing right next to your hand. You loved Xiao, despite all the rumors that often circulated him and the rest of the adepti. You also knew that Xiao had an incredibly fine-tuned sense of justice and logic. He normally wouldn’t hurl something at you like a challenge. Though he wasn’t perhaps the most well-versed in the ordinary lives of humans, you would hardly call him oblivious to human customs. Partner’s weren’t always partner’s for life. Why then was Xiao acting so cagey?

Now you partner let out a small “hmph!” Shifting himself so he was facing the outside, he stared out at the inky night of Liyue. His cheeks were warmed by the flickering candles of the Inn, and in that moment he seemed oddly vulnerable.

“Xiao,” you ventured. “Is something wrong, are you, are you still uneasy about yesterday.”

For a moment Xiao said nothing, and your heart began to sink. As you turned to walk away however you heard the soft tones of your partner’s voice.

“Would you be happier with them?”

“No,” the answer came automatic and true, “though I may have been their partner once, now they’re merely a friend. There is no one like you to me Xiao, there never will be; I realized that a while ago. Even if you worry about your karma or you lack of knowledge or whatever you shouldn’t worry that I’ll ever leave you.”

You quickly found yourself enveloped in your partner’s embrace. Letting a small sigh of relief pass your lips you returned the embrace fiercely. Feeling the arms around you tighten ever so slightly you found the strangest urge to laugh. Maybe because it was so silly, the idea that you would ever leave your partner. Though it was sad that he would never know how deeply those feelings ran.

“I’ll never go back to anyone but you,” you murmured.

The first thing Zhongli thought was that you two looked so right together.

Though the ex-archon did not like to admit it, the doubts that he had had at the beginning of the relationship still plagued him. Not the doubts about his love for you, oh no he could never doubt such a thing not if all the stars went out. No, his doubts lay in himself, in who he was. Perhaps it was wrong of him to still linger on his impending immortality, something that you assured him you had come to terms with. It felt disrespectful towards your decision to continuously feel this way. Yet standing at the door of the Funeral Parlor, watching as you chatted with your former partner, Zhongli could not help but feel the familiar pain.

The walk home was spent in a bit of a fog, as Zhongli half-listened to you discuss your day. Normally he found everything about you fascinating, and the things your job put you through were no different. This time though the words trickled off his back like water off a duck’s wings, the image of your and your “ex”, as you called it, pressing down upon him.

“My love?” He found himself saying, not realizing he had made up the decision to ask you something. You paused your conversation, titling your head slightly.

“Is something wrong?”

“No.” It was a lie perhaps, but an understandable one. “I just wished to comment upon the fact that I saw you with your former significant other. I hope that all was well with them.”

“They’re fine,” you replied. “Doing great actually, if what they say is true. Then again then were always prone to lying.” You let out a small laugh.

“Do you miss them?” Zhongli found he could not contain his questions today.

“No, not really. To be honest, talking to them kinda sucked. They sort of half-ghosted me back in the day, and even though you have to keep up appearances and all, I mean I can’t take them to task now, it still hurt.”

“I am sorry to hear that.”

“Oh don’t be!” You shook your head. “I’m perfectly happy where I am now. Even if that whole debacle sucked, it’s worth it if it let this happen.”

The both of you glanced down at you intertwined hands. The image was so perfect in Zhongli’s mind that for a moment all his worries went away, and the golden sun seemed to brighten just a little bit.

Later that evening however Zhongli once more found himself thinking about it. He really had been shaken by you talking with your former partner. Even if they were not the right one, they were still human. Did that not make things easier for you? Happier for you? Zhongli thought back at your hands. How fast would they age in his mind, how fast would you notice how frozen Zhongli was. As if he was carved from rock, the ex-archon could only be eroded slowly. He could not grow old with you.

“My darling?” Zhongli murmured. It was dark and the two of you were in bed. Limbs tangled together, heads nestled close, Zhongli felt as if he could ask what he so feared.

“Yes?” Your voice was heavy with sleep.

“Do you ever regret falling in love with me?”

“No,” your murmured. “I know that you might not believe me, or you might not stop worrying, but you should. I love only you, my dear. I always will. Death will not change how much I love you.”

Zhongli pondered these words as your breathing evened and you slipped off into dreams. How could you say such a thing so nonchalantly, how could you be so sure? Then again, humans always seemed to be more confident in their decisions than those who had been given immortality.

Though the ex-archon wasn’t always fond of sleep, Zhongli felt himself begin to slip away. In the in between of awake and asleep everything seemed painted over, made simple by the logic of one half-dreaming. He would never be rid of these feelings. Perhaps then he should rely on yours. He relied on your for so much already.

Kissing your cheek before finally being dragged into sleep the last coherent thought Zhongli was aware of was that he loved you so very much.
