Okay so I've started watching Blacklist with my parents while we eat dinner and shit, right ?

We watched ep9 tonight (Anslo whatever the fuck) and ofc my dad's complaining cuz trust but my mom was also saying how some parts of the dialogue was so bad.

Meanwhile my queer ass is watching the same scenes going "do they not see ??? The homoerotic tension ???????" Like...they really didn't need to have Ressler and Red interact like that AND YET !

THAT WAS RHE DIALOGUE. WHILE THEY WERE STANDING INCHES AWAY FROM EACH OTHER !!!! IT'S NOT BAD DIALOGUE IF YOU LOOK FOR THE HOMOEROTICISM !!!!!!!

AND THEN...RESSLER (FBI agent, first name Donald) GETS SHOT. AND RED(dington) DRAGS RESSLER AROUND AND KEEPS HIM FROM BLEEDING OUT. sort of.

Like, I know Red obviously has his own set of morals and shit but he's also aware of the luxurious life his criminal activity brings him and how that may appear as disregard for others entirely. (although apparently you should not be tourniqueting a leg which is exactly what is happening in that scene)

And then Red gives Ressler a fuckin blood transfusion while they're trapped in a glass and metal box together. AND MORE DIALOGUE

"I know you don't think much of me but you don't get assigned a case file like yours unless you pass muster."

If that ain't some enemies to lovers shit jfc. They did not have to word it like that but goddamn. Like...it's kinda implied from the beginning that Ressler's kinda pissed that some new person managed to get this world class criminal he's been chasing for years to finally give himself up without even realising. Ressler has spent YEARS tryna take down Red and now Red is currently saving his life. Literally enemies to lovers my god.

Again, that ain't bad dialogue if you stop looking at it from that boring ass Straight™ pov. I mean yeah it probably wasn't on purpose but still.

Idk if you saw the Josha Collider interview but he kinda hints we might get some Randlayne in s3? Which I am curious about that cause I didn't think they'd have time. Also that the Randfear relationship will continue where it left off and get even more complicated (which is very much their Shadow Rising dynamic)

but he keeps it very vague here and i don't think there's anything too surprising in what he says - the fact that the show took the time to signal randlayne in 2x08 definitely implies to me that they plan to follow up on it in SOME way in season 3, and given that daniel was already talking about having filmed some lanaeve scenes way back in june which according to the block filming schedule would probably mean those scenes are somewhere in the first block (eps 1&2), i think we can pretty safely assume that the tanchico & waste travel groups won't split up right away, and that we'll see rand and elayne interacting early in the season.

now, that doesn't necessarily mean they're going to be making out all over falme or declaring their love for each other already! "a gradual thing which needs to be organic" definitely makes me feel pretty good about my prior randlayne guess, which is that they'll be getting to know each other and building a connection early in s3 and laying that groundwork for romance, but nothing explicitly romantic will happen between them before they split up for their respective journeys. because they wouldn't have included that Moment between them in 2x08 if they didn't intend to build upon it pretty promptly at the start of season 3, so we've got to be seeing SOMETHING more on the randlayne front, but i don't think it will be anything huge. and what josha says here supports both parts of that prediction, i think! his comments on rand's headspace at the start of s3 also make me think it's unlikely rand will be jumping straight into brand-new romance during the first episode block, and since we know tanchico & the waste are both in, i don't think rand would see elayne again until the second half of s3 at the earliest and perhaps not until s4 (in person, anyway; further randlayne development through TAR chats is not outside the realm of possibility!)

and of course, avirand isn't something josha would be hinting at even a tiny bit in interviews since it's way too much of a spoiler, given that the two of them haven't even met yet, so randlayne being the s3 romance he's discussing doesn't mean avirand won't sneak in there and end up happening first! but all this being said, i am always ready for the show to surprise me and prove me totally wrong haha

in a couple of today's other interviews he said he wants randfear endgame djkjfg i'd have a shipping war with him about that, but i love how much he's loving digging into this relationship! lanfear positioning herself as ~the only one who understands him~ despite him being surrounded by his friends definitely sets up some toxic shit and i can't wait to see where that goes in s3. i love Mess!!

Was thinking how we get confirmation of some of the things years later. Like in today's ep jm said him, jk (confirmed) and either one of jin and yg (jm was a bit confused who but it could also be that yoonjin both left later like jikook) were the last ones to leave their dorm and remember how we used to think jikook "might" live together cause they used to share car alot during 2019-2021. Now idk exactly when they left their dorms but i do know the news of RM and jm buying house in nine one hit the media around june 1st 2021. Also that one BTS video where the boys were interviewing e/o and jk asked jm what was the most enjoyable thing these days and jm replied "The most enjoyable thing these days is waking up and seeing jungkook" idr but wasn't it around 2019-2020 when he said that? And jikook and yoonjin used to share car, jikook the most of times so i think yup jikook used to live in the shared apartment be it dorm or whatever that is. So we were basically right.

Intersting thing is even after RM and jm buying house we still saw jikook sharing cars now idk why that. Yes when minimoni brought their houses they shared car but it was like only few times but jikook still has shared cars few times here nd there so i wonder why is that maybe they love sharing cars or their houses are near or etc etc.

Maybe as the besties they're when it comes to car sharing they just simply put these two together knowing they have shared it before too. Remember how they shared car 4 days of concerts in LV? There's another thing who's confirmation we got way later but i don't remember that now but yeah.

I found it interesting that jimin knew for sure that jk was still with him at the dorms but couldn't confirm whether yoonjin were there too. Seems like a detail you'd recall I feel, unless you were spending a majority of your time with one person. And if we are to go by your timeline it does seem that even after moving out jikook seemed to have made a deliberate choice to take the same car on multiple occasions. I do think there was a period in mid 2021 and early 2023 where jkk were maybe not seeing each that frequently based on some of their conversations, but this docu has really made me re evaluate a lot of these assumptions.

Since 2020, we have gotten almost 1/3 the amount of behind the scenes ot7 content and that definitely had an impact on many peoples assumptions on the members relationships. It's why certain "groups" felt more confident in proclaiming that jikook were never close or only fanservice.

Tkkrs and their cult leaders will never stop in their attempts at undermining jikooks relationship with false narratives. It's something I didn't understand the need of when I first entered shipping spaces because if you believe tkk are real and in a healthy relationship, then why would assuming jikook are close friends, in any way would come in the way of that? Why did jimin need to be the villain in their theories so bad? It's only now that I kinda get that as a tkkr, they can't possibility perceive that tkk are in a 'genuine and healthy' relationship if they have to take jikook at face value. Cause the way those two interact and prioritise one another, does really throw tkkrs off gaurd. Which is why so much of their belief and foundation hinges on all of jkks interactions being fake and forced and jk secretly hating jm. Because the alternative cannot be that they're 'close friends" for them, once they start 'really seeing' jikook for the way they are around one another, it disturbs their perfect ideal.

Not saying that there's no possibility that jikook are in fact just close friends after all, but I think once you do see that underlying spark that makes one go "?" ,it's kind of hard to unsee it.

Some things abt monster high (2022) ships!

Draculaura x Lagoona

This ship made some sense to me after the episode w who gets voted head fearleader. They really seem to at least, connect with each other. And hinted at a bit in over bro tective. Probably my second favorite mh ship. However I believe the movie episode makes Lagoona x Gill seem like it could become canon however they have literally never interacted onscreen yet. Lagoona has two hands too so. Honorable mention to Twyla x Lagoona bc of the movie episode although as an nd person it came off more like nd solidarity. I relate Lagoona's 'chomps' to some aspects of my bpd and Twyla is of course canonically autistic. But also as a ship I think it could work, as literally nd4nd is so real.

Draculaura x Manny Taur

This is one of those one-sided rivalry turned study buddies turned ship things, I don't think I ship it a lot but it seems plausible except that Manny seems to be more a side character. The kind of ship that would probably happen irl and be relatively stable. The episode where Clawd first appears was when I felt this seemed to show up.

Draculaura x Clawd

This. Like. Tbh I feel Draculaura didn't exactly show kindness towards Clawd due to being worried about her vampirism in that ep. But the resolution of the conflict in this ep kind of made me realise that they may actually be hinting at this ship in canon(maybe a call back to older versions of mh) although I did not expect that

For what it's worth I don't really know if I see Draculaura as into any of these characters romantically. Maybe bc she always seems more focused on other things but. Also I feel that makes her come off as a character whos either into multiple people or not into anyone, also gives room for an aro or arospec interpretation but.

I feel that could be true of Clawdeen and Clawd as well, tbh those three just. Don't seem all that invested in romance or interested in others that way. I also think Twyla and Draculaura(more so movie version than show tho) and Torelei (yeah ik shes like. mean but Im apl and literally not my fault half the apl coded characters r villains or bullies) also come off as aplatonic or aplspec coded.

Frankie x Cleo

This. Probably my mh otp. Horoscare hints at this ship so much and so does that episode where they find the mummy necklace thing! The ship I think is most likely to be canon! They even show Frankie blushing and stuff like. Theres a lot of things that make it clear they're implying romance in terms of how cartoons tend to imply ships. Also one episode description for a future episode literally involves Deuce being a wingman for Frankie to ask Cleo to the monster ball!!

I think I definitely ship this in an arospec way bc Im arospec but. Quoiromantic greyromantic Frankie is such a headcanon I have and maybe Demiromantic Cleo bc. I also feel Cleo would realise her feelings after Frankie realised theirs. Although I also see Frankie having trouble interpreting their feelings towards Cleo or maybe not.

In one episode a playback of Clawdeen's monster minute is shown in which she says something about who she thinks is cute but it cuts off before any names are said (I believe it could be Deuce or Howleen. My partner and I even have a lighthearted bet on this in case it gets revealed, they guess Duece and I guess Howleen. Theres also the chance that neither and/or it is not revealed). It is to be considered that in the movie Deuce and Clawdeen do have chemistry but. I don't see that in this version at all tbh. Clawdeen doesn't seem to have romantic chemistry with anyone in the show tbh. And neither does Deuce imo

I do know that one sided Heath x Abbey is. Kind of noticeable but tbh Abbey is new to school at monster high and also I dont think its ever hinted that she feels the same about Heath although its possible she does and this ship may become canon?

Not really a ship at all for me but. Ghoulia seems like she really looks up to admires Skelly maybe in a fangirl-y way and that may be like. A celeb crush thing there and/or gender envy?

I think the moment Meliodas finally kills Dale is a real turning point in the series. Before this, he had not killed a single opponent. He just fought to disarm and incapacitate. Just the next episode, he tells ban and gowther to "go straight for the kill" against the holy knights. As we see throughout the rest of the series, even before his emotions get caught in purgatory, he no longer feels hesitant to kill. He only becomes more and more like himself from the time of the Holy War (post 10 commandments). This is why I love his character sm, a corruption arc (even if he is never truly evil) is just so rare and one this good and angst filled is even rarer.

Wait, Shurisu is the ship name between Shun and Alice?

I remember when Bakugan was airing and I would look for the episodes in YouTube and I would stumble upon ship amvs of Shun and Alice, even one where they claimed they would kiss later in S1 (obviously fake).

I distinctly remember it being one of the most popular ships in the fandom, but was the series hinting and building a possible relationship or friendship between the two and then dropped it later seasons? Or was it more of a fandom invention?

I wish Alice hadn’t been dropped as a character just to see how Shun came into terms with her being Masquerade. Is that something Shurisu as a ship has explored?

Yes it's the combination of Shun+Arisu (Alice's romanisation in JP) . Shalice was also a common name but I think Shurisu sounds better.

About them kissing I have an idea why. If you know Inesidora, she used to make lots of beautiful Shurisu fanarts. She would use a similar artstyle to bakugan's own for them, so people would share her art as spoilers 😂

Shurisu wasn't one of the most popular ships, it was THE most popular ship.There was literally no competition.Even when s4 was airing people were still waiting Alice to come back.Even right now talking about this like it was ages ago feels so weird to me but I know fandom changed so much since then

Ah little me knew and claimed the ship the moment i saw them 😄I still remember very clearly watching the intro for ep 1 for the first time(where Dan introduces us the brawlers) I looked at Dan and Runo and said "oh mc and his love interest?" and seeing Shun and Alice right after, fireworks went up inside my brain. I was like "and this is the couple that will steal the show" I wasn't completely wrong at least lol

In all seriousness though i think, the creators definitely had the intention to make them a couple but dropped it later.

Shun and Alice are both similar, so they are also very different compared to the rest of the team. I think that was intentional.They are both raised by their grandfathers,Shun was trained to be ninja and Alice was also learning under her scientist grandfather.Both are very smart, act mature for their age but also lonely inside.The difference is Alice was masking it (no pun intended🎭) with her more bubbly front. I think Alice also knew how similar they truly were.She was one of the very few people who could see through him and those who could, had already known him for a very long time unlike her(Shiori, Skyress and Dan)

She could sense his mood or what's going on inside his head despite the tough act he puts on.Also the time he wanted to leave the team and she went back after him,her words got to him because she told what he needed to hear,because she could understand how he was feeling.

Maybe not much important but it also always piqued my interest how we would see them together even on most random shots because apart from that, Shun would be pictured either alone or further back in group shots.

I think Shurisu was intended to be the opposite of the main couple in mind. In contrast to Dan and Runo's childishness, they would be the mature ship.Why I think they dropped later is that

1)They didn't know what to do with Alice later on so they wrote her off

2)They also didn't seemed to know how to handle Shun any better so decided to keep him as a loner and made being a "loner" his only character trait.

Which I think is very sad because they both individually and together had a lot of potential(not gonna drag this one i know y'all hear me keep talking about this lmao)

About her being Masquerade,We at least know Shun accepts her like the rest of group but since last arc focused more on the battles there was no focus on relationship or characters.And on NV Alice had limited appearance while Shun was on Vestroia most of the time. Through the whole season only once they seemed to be in the same room together (when they send Shun to vestroia via Michael's teleporter) and I belive that's where this pic came from?

Tl,dr; i think they were definitely made to be canon.But even if the creators were to came up today and claim they had no intention like that at all,it still wouldn't change anything for me.What matters is the characters dynamic.When you compare how they act like with eachother and with others and also look at their characters it becomes more clear. "The kind boy who puts on a tough act because he is troubled" and "The cheerful girl who is also troubled inside" is an old but loved dynamic afterall.So that's what drew a lot people in.

welcome to riverdale insanity. i hope your adventure has made you want to watch this show. i can try to explain it to you but i physically can't put this show into words (i can actually, they're "camp" and "metanarrative")

basically: riverdale is an intentionally batshit insane show which started out as a somewhat normal teen drama. most people, however, stopped watching after the crazy got turned up a notch and because of that most people still think it's a teen drama and the writing's just bad. but it's not bad writing! it's very very good writing! because every insane storyline is purpose!!!!! and that's why people love it. because they love their insane and gay show. somehow this is very hard for the average person to wrap their heads around.

i love riverdale to death. it is truly, genuinely, the only show of it's kind. it's outlandish and crazy and hilarious and beautiful. there's literally no other show willing to be as insane as riverdale was and it's definitely one of my favourite shows ever made because of that. this quote from a recent interview with some of the actors says it best:

as for the comparison quoaad: i will say that i enjoyed this finale... about the same amount as queen? i didn't like some parts of it but more for general storytelling reasons (i don't want to know the exact fates of every single character at any cost and that's literally all this finale was lol).

the main difference here is that the dark artifices is a serious (wel.. serious-adjacent) ya fantasy series but riverdale is a show that's centered around outlandish, comedic and dramatic storylines. a crazy finale didn't really fit TDA, while obviously, a crazy-ish finale did fit riverdale for the aforementioned reasons (i say "crazy-ish" because i would say this episode is like. maybe #70 on the most insane riverdale episodes list? believe it or not this was very normal by riverdale standards).

and yes the polyamory ending is always ICONIC. they really kierarktina'd us and i'm delighted. more of this please!

also, can i just say, the fact that you thought riverdale was a straight show is unbelievably funny and i KNOW most people think of it that way but you have to know that genuinely, without lying, 80-90% of the characters are canonically bisexual. and virtually all the other ones are gay. all of the main characters are gay/bi (except jughead, though that one's still a little debatable?). most of the main characters' parents are gay/bi. homophobic villains all end up being gay in the end. random background will make one on-screen appearance just to say they're gay and then leave. every single one of cheryls ancestors was a lesbian. i don't have the time to count but think riverdale has somewhere around 30-50 confirmed queer characters. and yes i do wish that they had given is a crumb of ace or trans rep but this is not my story this is one insane gay person's 20 year revenge plan and who am i to judge.

my fav part of this ep besides the spock mentions of course was the fact that the romulan commander deanna was up against seemed like a genuinely good person who had been hurt by the empire. like deanna was very much the bad guy here. imagine if some starfleet bigwig took kirk's ship away and used it to kill 18 people, you know? the outside pov vibe was kind of a slay actually

kind of a bummer to do all this angsting about romulus and helping the defectors and everything when quite literally it's gonna blow up in like...what, less than 20 years now, right? yeah. i mean if a romulan had a baby right now that baby wouldn't even live to be old enough to drink. obviously they had no idea when they were making all this but it's THAT VERY FACT that kind of makes me fucking nuts. please smuggle more people out of there. get them out now while you can. but they don't know. and it's not dramatic irony that they don't know like in real life nobody making this KNOWS. AAAAAAA

One thing abt ben and felicity is that they were never perfect and they're never going to be perfect. They both make bad decisions, do things I wish they didn't, but at the end of the day, I think that was the whole point.

The show showed us time and time again that quite literally no matter what they do, it is ALWAYS gonna be them in the end. No matter how much they hurt each other, they are always going to come back to each other and they will love each other MORE THAN and THROUGH their mistakes (even tho i do think there are things that happened that were ooc, ESP the beginningof 4x18 (yall KNOW)).

And I get being team Noel to an extent, bc trust ben pissed me the hell off too, multiple times, but at some point it's just like, it was NEVER going to be Noel. EVER. In the dream eps (ik some ppl love them and some dont) we see Noel pull that same type of thing with Hannah that we saw him do in s1 and that we have seen ben do, and I definitely think that served a purpose. It was to show that Noel isn't this perfect guy compared to ben, it showed that her and noel wouldn't be perfect and she wanted to be with him because of literally that, thinking that going back and choosing him would make everything better and that that was the choice she should've made. It showed her how choosing Noel wasn't the right choice because he was capable of those kinds of actions as well, and it wasnt worth it.

(and sidenote: she was capable of these actions too as we know because she cheated on ben with Noel)

All this to say is that those dream eps showed us and her that being with Noel or picking Noel was never gonna be an option. He was the second choice, the security blanket, but when it comes to it, he was never gonna be the better choice, the right choice, or even the one that got felicity better than anyone else (which the dream eps showed when ben was the one to believe her).

Do I think some things could've been done way better?? Absolutely. But one thing they did right was show how two people can be tethered for life and how even when they mess up time and time again, love truly wins out. He INHABITS her, like no one else can.

Lastly, I hate having this conversation without prefacing that this show was all about the drama. Everyone was toxic, everything was messy, and bringing that into this conversation is about as useful as talking to the wall. Some of yall just have to accept that everyone was toxic otherwise idek how you made it through the show and want to ship anyone.

the first character i ever fell in love with: absolutely tfa bumblebee. i remember like it was yesterday. it was like three or two years ago, i was scrolling insta and saw an edit of tfa bee (i can't link it and i won't put it here bc it's obviously not mine) where prowl said "we're gonna use bumblebee's greatest weapon. his obnoxious personality" and i LOST MY MIND it was love at first sight

but imagine my surprise when i finished watching tfa and realised that all the other bees... are just not the guy i liked. i watched prime and didn't enjoy it as much as i could have, had i forgotten my weird obsession with sorta hot shot-like bee and just appreciated prime's bumblebee. it didn't stick tho and i stopped looking for tf stuff for like two years (i realised i just gave like my whole backstory about tf ok sorry lmao)

Some Ted Lasso finale thoughts

I feel like I always have to preface my Ted Lasso opinions with the reminder that I haven't seen the series in full, but! I have watched all of s3, parts of s2, and the first few eps of s1. I realize I'm working with limited context though.

I think my fave character overall was Trent. His physical comedy was outstanding, plus I just love that his role this season was basically: fly on the wall/reaction shot. I feel pretty cheated we didn't get some meaningful voiceover from him, though. You know, a bit of narration of his book. Feels like something like that would've tied in nicely within the montage.

I feel bad for the shippers (those first few minutes were especially cruel to the Ted/Rebecca shippers) but I also feel like a lot of the reactions I've seen in the tags would be way less critical if the shipper goggles weren't fastened so tightly. There's something to be said about online fandom and getting caught up in the echo chamber of it, and how that sorta amplifies your confirmation bias. You look for the things you want to find, even when they're not textually there. Before the finale aired, I kept seeing people be SO SURE that Rebecca would go to Kansas with Ted and for the life of me I couldn't understand WHY. Those two characters, in the context of tumblr? You see enough "invisible string" gifsets paralleling some of their scenes, sure. Maybe those two versions of Ted and Rebecca end up together, but the actual characters on the show? Who barely spent time together outside of work? Who thought of each other so, so platonically? I don't get it. If I have to like, deep dive into symbolism and read into stares and decode their supposed body language and break out the tack board to connect the dots because of some color scheme of the clothes they wear, with nothing actually happening onscreen telling me these people care even a little bit romantically about each other? Surely that says something about canon. If I, a casual viewer who isn't mainlining gaze-count compilations or whatever, aren't seeing what the hyperfocused fanbase is seeing onscreen with my own eyeballs, doesn't that imply some of the interpretation is fanon and not canon? Just a little? Obviously that is just the universal shipping experience, I'm not trying to be condescending or judgmental, I'm just saying: be for real. BE FOR REAL, Y'ALL.

I liked seeing Rebecca's emotions for Ted spill over in all of their scenes together (semi-related: I feel like when Rebecca was grieving Ted so hard and he was... not giving the same energy back it's because their headspaces were so different in those moments: for Rebecca, it was about saying goodbye. For Ted, it was about saying hello... to his family. Rebecca was feeling loss, and Ted was too, but he was also gaining back something big. But anyway!!) I do wish they hadn't pulled the "you go, I go" trope. For so long, so much of Rebecca's arc was about her getting back her independence from Rupert. Why, at the last moment, try and anchor her to another man? Especially after that episode where she stood up against all those old rich dudes and reminded them why they love the game, why the fans love the game, why SHE loves the game? It felt weird. If it was a panicked reaction because she was losing a really good friend, then I wish the show would've had Ted, ya know, COMMUNICATE with her instead of staying so mute, to remind her that she loves what she does, that she's earned her place, and that she can do it alone. But she wouldn't even be alone! She has literally everyone else she's always had in her corner still in her corner.

If I had been super into either Roy/Keeley or Jamie/Keeley I would be SO BUMMED that the show pulled the last second third wheel card, just to give them an ambiguous "Keeley chooses neither" ending. But I can also appreciate that the show just threw its metaphorical hands in the air and refused to make a choice. I, too, see the appeal of all sides of the triangle and don't even know what my preference would be. Besides throuple, obviously, which I also think the open-ending left a little crumb trail to set up. I will say, overall, Roy was so reactive this season in his feelings for Keeley. He broke up with her, then really only started gravitating back to her when she was with Jack, or when he was jealous about the leaked video, or jealous about Jamie. That wasn't my favorite, but he also just pines really nicely so I get the otp of it all.

All of the "Ted is leaving all his friends behind! He's got nothing to live for in Kansas except his son!" online takes are SO BAFFLING. Y'all realize this character didn't apparate from the ether into Richmond as a fully grown, fully mustached man, right? He came from a place where he ALSO had friends and family he was leaving behind, with relationships that were likely just as important to him. And he will make friends after. Like????? You'd think Ted was returning to the gallows on a death sentence or something, just to wither away after Henry grows up.

I think I'll try and watch the show from the start and see if my opinions on anything change. I've heard that all of the prime Ted/Rebecca stuff happens early on in s1, and maybe seeing them in a classic enemies-to-friends situation might reveal to me what the shippers see. And maybe I'll care more about Nate's arc and Jamie's growth.

ps; dollsome, if you're reading this and you've made it this far, look away!!! Because, I'm sorry, I love that the Dutch boat guy came back. His and Rebecca's chemistry was just off-the-chart bananas. I think the psychic stuff was set up to red herring the crap out of the fandom from all sides, I don't think Rebecca and boat guy are like, psychically fated and meant to be, but! They were lovely, so I'm glad their montaged future had them together. And with a pilot in her life, hey. Rebecca can fly out to Kansas and visit her old bud, Ted, anytime, right?

The thing is if anyone says that Daemon and maybe Criston were possibly subjected to Alys' charms you will immediately be accused of being a misogynist. Just try suggesting that on Twitter or on Reddit, it will be like detonating a bomb in real time. Some will even lose their minds if you even dare to call her a witch. This is why nobody even tries to reason with those people anymore. Book readers who still remember the little that was being discussed online about all of this before the show know you could have a normal debate back then on what may have actually happened in the book with those two by analyzing every scenario the text implies but right now it's impossible to do so due to the fact that antis and crazies who only use the character to project onto her have hijacked this part of the fandom and everything they do is bully people with different opinions. As for Aemond's age, well, firstly I have to say I love how defensive they get when his young age is pointed out, be it 16 in the show which is the maximum he can be given the timeline (I also still believe they meant for him to be at least 18 and messed up, but alas, here we are) or 19 in the book. They'll just say it's two adults falling in love and end of story. This parallel was pointed out in the past by other anons I think but the relationship also reminds me of Nettles and Daemon. She is 16 years old when she first appears in the story (and yes, also an adult by Westerosi standards if I'm not mistaken?), but normally she would still also be way too young for Daemon and the whole affair is very icky, if she's indeed his lover and not his daughter, yet I don't see antis applying the same logic to them, instead they only use the relationship to point out that Daemon is a groomer. Not that it's not true, because it is, but you see the double standards. This teenager/barely adult young man x older adult woman ship? Good. The other one bad.

I myself had an anon at one point that I think was trying to suggest Alys being a witch is made up because of sexism, when I pointed out that this ship isn't viable, as Aemond cannot bring a literal representation of the supernatural with him back into the Red Keep.

I also believe they meant for him to be older, but messed up the maths or didn't realise the clownish implications it would have for future seasons, but, like you, I wish this debate would die already. Yes, Ryan specified the ages of 17-21 for them, but it's physically impossible for Aemond to be older than 16, with the time-jumps they themselves specified in the show - 10 years after ep. 5 and 6 years after Driftmark. I do not care what Ryan or anyone else says in this regard, confess that you don't know how to do basic algebra and just retcon it or whatever, but both cannot be true at the same time. This isn't Dark on Netflix, we're not time-travelling or in parallel universes ffs, Aemond cannot grow older when he has maximum 16 years of linear time to do so.

And even if we go by FB, where he's 19-20 and Alys is "at least 40 years old, that much is known", nobody would be peddling the argument that it's two adults falling in love. By all means, nobody is telling you not to ship it, just to stop insisting on this weird orwellian imposition that everything is fine and dandy between them.

In any case, this is a very complex discussion of power dynamics, as in this very specific case it is muddled enough that it's not entirely evident who abuses whom. On the one hand, Alys can be the manipulative older woman, who also taps into the paranormal and is empowered as a result of that, so not a person to be trifled with. On the other hand, Aemond, while younger, still has a tremendous amount of social, political and military power he can lord over Alys. He is a prince of the realm, he has Vhagar and he has the power to put her entire family to the sword.

Anyway, I expect that in future seasons daemyras and daettles* are going to go hard against alysmonds and throw the age argument right back in their faces. They're going to be warring over this aspect to the moon and back, when it's such a stupid hill to die on. Accept it as the problematic** ship that it is and live your life in peace. Glass houses/candles and all.

Also also, how did they fight crime during those two months? Did all the criminals in Lille collectively decide to not murder anyone while Morgane was mopping? 😂

I see your point re establishing Roxane's relationship with Karadec, although it kiiiiiinda felt a little bit forced to me (I'm not saying that out of sheer spite, she grew on me in later episodes, you'll see), in that certain way where it felt like Karadec completely switched personality in the span of two episodes? My uptight, work-compartimentalizer, psychorigid, germaphobe germanophile boi suddenly turned into a sappy potato who has heart-shaped sticky notes on his desk and plays laser game with his co-workers, speaking of -- I'm sorry but there's SO MUCH to unpack here:

I don't know if you noticed the inscription on that cheesy laser game/escape room/whatever mug, but Roxane and Karadec's ship name is Karaxane. Like… Even his fucking GIRLFRIEND won't use his first name 🤣🤣🤣 This show is cursed. CURSED!!

When Morgane glued back together the shredded nude selfie, she wisely covered the dude's dick with a sticky note, but she chose to do so with one of Roxane's red heart-shaped ones, which imo is the pettiest, most delightful revenge she's ever come up with 😍

I'm not sure I can see the fic possibilities here though, given the assumed lack of Morgane x Karadec interactions, because who wants to read about Roxane and Karadec doing whatever cheesy shit they have going on, although I do have plans to address the said lack of interactions in a future fic!!

After re-reading Season 1 of BHO, I can only think of two questions! 1. What scene hurt you the most while writing it, and which scene left you the most positive while writing it? 2. How hard was it to come up with ideas for this era of the Echidna history, given just how much of it gets blown over in the original Knuckles and Sonic comics? It's kind of amazing that almost everything between the white comet and Edmund and Dmitri's brotherly spat is just a fat load of nothing in the source material!

It's probably not a surprise to say that the most difficult thing I've written so far in this series was the last sentence of the last episode. Per my original outline I hadn't intended to have Kayla's death depicted within an episode, but it's the sort of thing that just sorta presents itself as necessary while you're in the middle of working. The worst thing about scenes like that though is the fact that I'm well aware that I COULD change things around if I really wanted to, but I'm less able to live with present an inferior story than I am with having to kill off characters I like.

Most positive thus far, incidentally, is also a last sentence. In this case, it's the last sentence of episode 7, Abandon Ship. Somewhere over the course of writing that ep, or maybe it was the one before it, was when I realized that Kayla was actually the original Guardian, but it was SO HARD sitting quietly on that epiphany until the right time. If I blew the lid early, that last line wouldn't have so much punch! Finally getting to post that was definitely a release for my nerves.

As for how I came up with my version of echidna history so far... honestly, I don't know if it's a matter of easy or hard. The way I come up with pretty much any of these stories is by sorting out what things I -am- going to keep from the source material, and then continually asking myself questions. "What sort of thing would explain [x]? What kind of person would be needed in [y] situation for [z] to occur? If I take [a] as a given, what would be the expected consequences/side effects of that status quo? If [these characters] have [this kind] of relationship, was it always like that? If not, what changed to get it there?" Those sorts of things.

I think my way through these questions and come up with plausible answers, and if the answer makes sense and I can use it to further the story I'm telling, I add it into my outline, and then I start asking the same sorts of questions about this new element as well. By repeating this process over and over, I gradually fill in the gaps in the narrative and gain insights into characters, organizations, and other elements, which I wouldn't have realized without that analysis. It's not always a fast process, either; sometimes the answer to a question takes weeks or even months to finally work itself out! There are also times when I only suddenly realize something literally RIGHT before I need to use it, and I get the writer's equivalent of a near-death experience as I think about how things would've turned out if I hadn't had that epiphany.

This also works in reverse if I stumble across a piece of canon I hadn't accounted for previously; if, say, I'm looking something up in one of the Sonic wikis and I trip over a bit of information I didn't have before but that I know I want to include, I start asking questions in the other direction to see where I can fit the new element into the existing outline. Sometimes things slip right in easily, sometimes the outline needs to be adjusted in order to incorporate it.

(This, by the way, is the reason why I constantly recommend writers outline their shit. Even one or two rounds of this process will leave you with a LOT of information in your lap. When your brain is continuously working out the details of your narrative, it's going to get to a point where there's too much data to keep track of just in your own mind. You WILL lose track of something at some point, that's just how the human brain works. Making note of any information you've decided to include saves you from having to remember, which frees up your mind to do other things.)

Anyway, a lot of this takes care of itself in the back of my brain on auto-pilot these days. Sometimes I'm sitting around and pointedly working on my story with all of my focus, but there are other times when I'm doing something completely unrelated but some background process in my brain that I'm not even aware of is still analyzing, and all of a sudden a critical idea that fixes a huuuge problem I've been struggling with will just spontaneously fall into my lap, seemingly out of nowhere. It only feels out of nowhere because I wasn't consciously working on it, but my subconscious still was, and every now and then it spits out a receipt.

SOOO YEAH, like I said, it's really not a matter of it being hard or easy, but moreso a matter of asking myself questions and having enough patience for my mind to reach the answers. It's a very long and gradual process, and each time I gain ground I just have to be sure to make a note of it.

i honestly wish my brain wasn’t such a frying pan of obsessions that change every other week, but off the top of my head the ships i’ve been thinking about the most lately are probably:

roy/jamie (ted lasso) has been my main ship for ages by now and it’s honestly a little unhealthy how often i think about these dumbasses. i think its mainly because both characters are just so incredibly complex, and they both have some of my all time favourite arcs. the two of them have always felt like two sides of the same coin to me. i could talk forever about roy's urge to protect his loved ones vs jamie's inherent need to feel protected (as shown in the ep. 'mom city'.) not to mention the good old grumpy + sunshine trope. there's also just the undeniable chemistry between them because brett and phil are literal platonic soulmates irl.

roy/keeley/jamie (ted lasso) is another one of my faves. a lot of it is for the same reason as stated above, but with keeley added to the mix because we can't deny that she is the center of roy and jamie's universe, whether that be romantically or platonically. she's the only person that has bothered truly getting to know both of them: and she's the only person to stand up to them and tell them they need to work on themselves. their traits all add up: when keeley feels suffocated by roy's need to be close, roy doesn't have to feel rejected and alone because jamie will literally cling to him like a koala any chance he gets.

fatin/leah (the wilds) and listen its been so long since i watched the wilds but i will never forget Them. leah singing "home is when I'm alone with you" while cradling fatins jaw. the looks they share. "why are you looking at me like that?" she asks wHILE LOOKING AT HER THE SAME WAY.

lottie/nat (yellowjackets) i am a casual shipper here but all i’m gonna say is: the bathtub scene. nat helps wash and patch up lottie. idk they’re just precious.

steve harrington/eddie munson (stranger things) is one of those 'i didn't really consider it until i saw someone else ship it' things for me personally, but listen they're just cute to imagine. its the whole jock x nerd thing, but i'm not as emotionally invested in this ship as much as i just enjoy the idea of it.

i probably have so many other ships that i should be mentioning but i think i've already talked too much. also! feel free to scream about ships to me, even if i don't know the ship i'll probably scream back
