i was gonna ask about the vegan, but you already answered that lol. so instead i offer absurd things that vegans i know have told me.

first: anything about "complete protein" and "variety", i have yet to see a vegan answer anything beyond vague generalizations.

second and my personal favorite: human meat is vegan. (tbf, the only irl time i heard this, i was probably guilty of entrapment)

third, straying into animal-rights territory: advocating the genocide of domestic species that have come to rely on human assistance. i don't recall the exact quote, but it was something like "it's better they all die than be reliant on humans"

bonus: many vegans do not consider themselves, or even humans in general, to be part of the food web (tho they usually call it the food chain)

I personally get it if people aren't comfortable with animals being killed to feed them, like, yeah I understand why you wouldn't want to eat animals that you know had to die for your meal basically.

But in terms of like, eggs and wool and milk and stuff, it's just like:

Internet vegan: These animals are treated badly! This is horrible!

Other internet person: Yeah so we should try to get eggs and milk from small local farmers that we can personally verify are treating their animals well

Internet vegan: No, veganism is about ZERO exploitation of animals, and anyway, you can just choose not to torture animals for your own pleasure

Other internet person: But they're...not being tortured? People get eggs from chickens that are loved and cared for like pets?

Internet vegan: Eating the SECRETIONS of an animal's BODY is inherently exploitative and also misogynistic probably

Like you can't really make the case that backyard eggs from chicken breeds that aren't bred to over-produce, or milk from a goat that is treated better than most pets, is "cruelty" unless you're applying human concepts of things like "freedom" and "exploitation" to them.

Anyways, domestication isn't evil any more than any other symbiotic relationship is. And the argument that there's something innately unethical about eating animals makes no sense unless you do hold that humans are "higher" or have a greater responsibility than other animals, because animals eat other animals? Humans are part of the ecosystem like everybody else. I would argue that we *are* different in that we can make choices about how to manage resources and ecosystems with consideration toward the future. But I don't think that means that eating animals is inherently wrong.

And like...ultimately, everything does in fact die, and if humans aren't eating it, something else will be. I don't know what the alternative is. Let large mammals live to old age past the point where they would be eaten by predators (which is *mercy*, not cruelty, because it's a much quicker end to suffering than just letting the creature's body age and decline until it can't take care of itself or move around without pain. and unlike a human, a horse or cow can't understand the aging process or make active decisions about its own treatment and care.)?

If no one ate meat we would still have to manage the white-tailed deer population, in the absence of their natural predators, or they would overpopulate and die slower, more painful deaths of disease and starvation. People make a big deal out of nature being "cruel" but a healthy ecosystem with lots of predators does wonders to reduce the suffering associated with death.

Also it bothers me how a lot of vegans seem to dismiss the idea of plants as potentially sentient in some ways because like...they are aware of and respond to their environment, and we are just now scratching the surface of how they sense their world and communicate (yes, communicate).

It's silly to totally dismiss a tree as inert and unfeeling, really. Trees are capable of sending messages to other trees. They sense, they feel. It's totally unlike anything we can imagine but plants possess some kind of awareness that we are only now beginning to understand. If the foundational reasoning of veganism is that "animals are sentient and can feel so don't eat them, but it's okay to eat plants" then ?????????????

HEY YOU Hit me with some Julie Su propoganda cuz I'm mostly lukewarm on her character and don't know all that much about her.

OK OK ... well baseline info she's the daughter of dark legion general luger, and half sister of lien-da and kragok, who are twins and both high ranking legion soldiers. when their mother (merin-da) died and luger remarried, ld and kragok hated his new wife (julie-su's mother) (mari-su) so bad they orchestrated her death, info which was they kept on the DL for a long time until js eventually found out about it. memory situation, js is raised by other folks who actually love her and doesn't learn who her blood family is until later. she joins knuckles because she feels inexplicably drawn to him (soul touch) (echidna soulmates) so she defects from the legion to join the chaotix. the soul touch thing sucks and i hate it but this is how it goes. ill talk about my au version of her at the end lol bc things ive built on top of canon are part of the reason why shes one of my fave charas in the series lul

ANYWHO i honestly find it pretty frustrating when people talk about js as just being pink knuckles, shoehorned into the story to give knuckles an obligatory girlfriend, because it really demonstrates that they like. weren't paying a lick of attention to anything because she genuinely has a LOT of personality but since people just go in anticipating anything penders touched to suck they don't even bother to think about her for longer than half a second.

js fills a niche that, imo, could always use filling, especially with regards to girl characters, which is to say shes a well meaning asshole. shes incredibly blunt, she's pessimistic (immediately assumes knuckles must be dead when enerjak returns and they cant find him, tells knuckles not to search a fallen ship that his mother was on because shes probably dead and she doesnt think he'd want to see that). shes terrible at handling interpersonal conflict (knuckles confesses to her that he feels guilty and stressed over all the pressure put on him as guardian and she scolds him and says "this isn't just about you", which results in a minor shouting match when she really had zero intention of starting an argument), she's almost constantly beefing with vector (tbf its because hes sexist he refuses to see past her history as a member of the dark legion). these might suond like cons but i love characters like this LOL and they fit especially well in archie where people love to get mad at each other and make dumb mistakes and it just feels very genuine and interesting and endearing to me. shes rough and difficult but she's also DEEPLY loyal. she'd die for knuckles and the chaotix and the way she interacts with them always makes me soooo ........ im just gonna give some examples i can find.

^ this was the genuine conclusion of an argument they had and im obsessed with it because both of them suck with emotions so they both give the worlds strangest apology and know that the other means it and they move on. plus putting her arm in front of SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG while theyre confronting eggman even after watching him CHAOS BLAST, primarily because she feels like this is more her fight than his (its about knuckles).

theres def more and i could find them if i was more on top of archie but unfortunately im #narutopilled rn. BUT ANYWAYS. shes just a very fun character with a messy personality and fun interactions and she loves her buddies sm even tho she bickers with them. shes just very special. she fits well with knuckles in a way that makes their relationship actually feel plausible instead of just forcing him to have a girlfriend (tho ofc the writing is fumbled sometimes like. ITS ARCHIE. bffr. but thats the case with literally everything ever in archie so you take what you can and its amazing). also see below. BASED AS FUCKKKKKKK

and ill discuss my au briefly bc u r asking me my opinion on js and that does play a large role in how i feel abt her, but rly im just expanding on elements of her story that werent discussed as fully as i wouldve liked. her relationship with lien-da is obviously BAD in canon, but theres not a lot of time spent lingering on precisely how lien-da and kragok feel about julie-su as the product of their fathers second marriage to a woman they KILLED because they hated her so much. ive also given her much more internal strife over turning away from the legion, originally joining the chaotix planning to betray them from the inside then being slowly convinced to join them for real after realizing how much she'd been brainwashed by the legion and what its like to have people who truly love and care about you. her story as someone who is trying to find herself outside of her history as a child soldier is something that TOTALLY deserves to be expanded on and its a bit sad that it wasnt explored. but i mean really im not changing her actual PERSONALITY at all because as i discussed shes oozing with it.... im honestly never going to make the full comic i wanted to so at some point im just going to compile all the lore and concept art and stuff into one big post to share. but thats like a spoiler free taste.

she also has a gun. which is fucking awesome because not enough sonic characters have guns. people make shadow the guy with a gun but he hasnt been seen with one since shth. hello....

Ive been in the fnaf fandom for a WHILE so ive had TONS and TONS of headcanons over the years, ever since fnaf 1, before the lore became SO UNBEARABLE (hah... springbonnie would make that joke.)

Anyways.. onto headcanons:

I have a LOT of headcanons on Springbonnies eyes. Especially since i have an AU where they are possesed by both William Afton AND an oc of mine!

Though, lets start with BEFORE the murders, instead on how his own suit works!!

Springbonnie has a weird eye function, a strange mechanic inside his eyes.

You see how springtrao has these clear plastic bulbs covering the outer layer of his eyes? Outlining where springbonnies more robotic and less alive eyes would usually stare? I like to imagine that its a mechanic that they have when NOT being used as a costume! Perhaps its a way to make springbonnie and its (I like to assume) Accidental AI to focus on children. Just something to keep it able to focus. Kinda like an adhd medication but for a robot to be able to NOT look around and get distracted. I like to assume they have something like that due to morbid curiosity. When used as a costume i like to think that springbonnies conciousness sort of.. not exactly VANISHES but isnt quite as STRONG, so those little like... glasses almost, arent needed cause humans are kinda better at staying focused than a curious bunny robot with adhd somehow programmed into their conciousness. Though these stay of springtrap because Springbonnie was sort of left to just rot and malfuction and grow obsolete for around 30 years before Afton came and decided to force himself in such a broken suit (while it was wet too, seriously afton, whats wrong with you?) So it wasnt able to turn them up while being worn.

I also like to think springbonnies eyes change COLOUR to match the person wearing their costume, as best as they can atleast, maybe with a tiny tiny tint of green? Buts till otherwise the same.. Brown eyes makes their green eyes brown, blue makes them blue, grey goes grey, etc etc. It follows EVERY eye colour. Which is why I like to headcanon william as having GREY eyes instead of a dull light blue (even though it IS canon in silver eyes. Tbf tho i also headcanon afton to still have his little manbun/ponytail even when the silver eyes made him NOT have that.) I like to make Springbonnie STILL able to stay alive ish kinda even after the springlocking, thought i like to imagine they cant really front much. And when they finally can it works alot like DID (Dissasociative Identity Disorder) where they will forget what happened during the times they WERENT concious. I dont like writing springbonnie alot because i havent done nearly enough research on DID but i sure would like to add it to him just because... I like leatning how to write and understand different disorders. Especially with my favourite characters!

I have a certain colour code to springtraps eyes for who is who, since again.. OC au.

Obviously, grey is most common, with william always being present.

Blue will be also common. Due to ot being the soul of my OC who happens to be very... stubborn. Not exactly vengeful but he HOLDS GRUDGES. He loves holding onto things that hurt him. Hes like the opposite of that one meme.

He would truly just stare at you. Enraged. How could you say that to him??

Along with the changing eye colour headcanon... I like to imagine they can have both eyes different colours as well, because

1) heterochromia exists, they need to be able to mimic that!

2) it shows who is fronting out of the 3 of them!

Left is for who is FRONTING! right is for who is technically just watching over. They both have equal contribution, but not exactly the same roles.

It will be the same as above even if all are able to have concious at the same time, just with whoever isnt fronting or watching just having their colour around there the pupil is.

Im not sure wether youve noticed yet or not, BUT! I also headcanon Springbonnie as being nonbinary!

Throughout most of this i tried my hardest to use they/them on springbonnie BUUUTTT sometimes Afton or my OC got in my head and i used he/him.

I like to imagine that nobodu decided to give the animatronics any actual pronouns oyher than It/its BUT in those old AUs people made where all the animatronics knew eachother and even all shared a restaurant, i like to imagine Springbonnie would ALWAYS be refered to with they/them because... it would be all they respond to. Not really seeing themself as a boy/girl animatronic because... to them they are just that. An animatronic. And it goes with them everywhere. Every animatronic to them is they/them and It/its. They cant really differentiate between human and animatronic but they most definitely are more human, even if they are kinda restricted by.. being an animatronic. They act very human like.

I do like to have the same headcanon with fredbear as well, though he will respond to anything. She/he/they/it... they respond! Though i personally use he/they on fredbear cause it feels fitting.

I also like to headcanon, in my au that both springbonnie and Shadow Bonnie are the same! Eventually, after the afton springlocking, both springbonnie and my oc's conciousness will split from Springtrap, sometime, and go on to form shadow Bonnie, which is entirely just a physical form of their emotions over aftons actions, so not much like them, but still them. You get me?

Speaking of them basically being the same, i like to imagine the shadow animatronics are also able to ONLY move through walls, project on walls and can morph other shadows as well, sometimes even replacing them with themselves. i like having the headcanon of the shadows going by whatever pronouns, though it still fluctuates.

Projecting on a wall or not using anothers shadow as their own? It/its.

Switching with somebody elses shadow? Copies whoevers shadows they are using's pronouns.

Though this can still fluctuate with he/him for shadow Freddy and he/they with shadow Bonnie because of who they are made of (cc, Jake, and springbonnie.)

Plus! I like to imagine springbonnie was modeled to be what the kagamines are to fredbear. Yk. Like a sibling, lover, or a mirror image! I personally like headcanoning sprinbonnie and fredbear definitely being a ship, but it changes a lot depending on the AU of mine. Sometimes its found family dynamic with the golds, sometimes they just dont have any relation other than William's and Fredbears Fursonas (as therefor friends cause I dont ship willry)

Springbonnie is one of my faves aside from CC and Plushtrap, who i also headcanon being super best friends with springbonnie!! So im glad I got this ask!! Tysvm @incorrect-fnaf-quotes!!! V sillay...

With Bendy now being out in the real world... it begs the question of who the role of big bad and smiling (traumatized, very much traumatized) will fall on... As for who we may play as.... maybe it could be this Riley Wells (hope I got the surname right) character we found out about in Secrets of the Machine? They ended up being a GENT employee so it's not completely out the question? They were employed at Joey Drew Studios before but- got fired because their ideas were too grotesque and dark for Joey's liking (EXCUSE THEM for having trauma you entrepreneur a-hole).

As for Bendy Silent Town... I feel like that game may be a look at mayhaps the genre of Bendy cartoons Riley had scripted? As I said, their ideas were dark. And what is Silent Town? A complete turn to the left at what Bendy games are. Unsure if the hand in the teaser image is Bendy's but- the char has a revolver named Alice FJFJ does that say anything? I dunno! I like character driven shows with a loveable (or hateable >:3) cast. I prefer full cast shows over single voice, though I don’t mind single voice. Genre isn’t super important (tho I do love horror). Midnight burger - keep recommending this but if you like full casts with a lot of relationship exploring, this one is a blast

EOS10 - this is more comedy based but it's also surprisingly touching sometimes, I enjoyed it a lot and do believe you'd enjoy it as well

Eraticus - very very good, definitely should be on your list because you'll like that one

Unwell A Midwestern Gothic Mystery - big cast, a very good show exploring a wide range of relationships in the most splendid way

SCP find us alive - can't say it's exactly horror but it's not a comedic show either, explores the relationships between people stuck in a place they can't seem to espace from

Wooden Overcoats - comedy, but the really good kind, explores what it means to be family, what it means to be friends, and tbf I'll recommend this show to anyone because idk who could dislike it

Moonbase Theta Out - very well made, quite long but the pacing is good, a story about people on the moon and about the ones who aren't on the moon

Saw the news about Aston Martin and Honda, remembered the online abuse you mentioned Honda staff receiving after Fernando's comments in the past, immediately said "yikes"

honestly I think it's. well. I have a lot of thoughts and coincidentally my NDA expired in February at last so now I can actually talk about When I Worked For Honda's F1 Division.

2017 was not a good time for Honda. if you'd like some insight into just how staggeringly bad it was being Honda in 2017 then McLaren handily made a documentary series with Amazon called Grand Prix Driver but it might as well have been How Honda Are Responsible For Everything Wrong With Our Car And Also Any Bad Things That Have Ever Happened.

it was the final year of the drawn-out McHonda divorce and my god, the love was gone. not in a like, staying together for the kids way in a like, 'Stoffel is being punished for being perceived as more Honda' way. (Honda did think he was more Honda tbf, not sure why McL were trying to disown him tho)

'GP2 engine' hung over the whole thing like a nightmare. the Honda power unit did have some limitations, no doubt but one of them was the fact it was being developed completely separate to the car.

the monster fire-up (it was like 72 painful hours or something, I don't want to look back and check) is right at the start of the documentary but McLaren conveniently omit the bit where they made a chassis the power unit did not fit into so Honda spent three days playing MGU-K tetris to get it into a position where it wouldn't immediately catch fire.

anyway, without getting too far into the war flashbacks: there was so much damage done to Honda's reputation as a manufacturer even Sauber (then on the brink of financial collapse) wouldn't take the power units as a new factory team deal. the Toro Rosso deal was eleventh hour and then, finally with a team that wasn't actively deciding to sabotage the power unit, progress got made.

so much so that Honda has the best power unit on the current grid. it's much more reliable than Ferrari's, it has better efficiency than Mercedes' - Red Bull are walking it to wins every weekend and making everyone else look like they've got a Mechachrome in the back.

but Honda's time with McLaren has so utterly trashed their reputation that when Red Bull move to the Ford-badged power unit collaboration, Honda are currently staring down the prospect of not having a team to supply. which is ridiculous.

so Aston Martin and by extension, Fernando have to be an option.

i love how freaking weird these things are, growing up in new england i used to see them on beaches a lot and it was always so neat to see (they're also so ancient as a species, like it's just fricking neat to think you get to share this earth with something that old and that weird looking). I like that their family name (limulus) means "slightly askew" in latin because if you've ever seen one move around, it's pretty apt.

they are pretty critically endangered (mostly habitat loss but also overfishing/climate change, yknow the usual crap T.T) and it'd be so sad if they disappeared.

anyway, into the reds now b/c orange and yellow are terrible (tbf, the challenge states you can use other colors in each one so long at the key color is the main one, but i know myself and i would probably have tried to circle around the uglier colors so went with single palette for the most part)

ok so first things first, i loooove gatwa's doctor so much already. if nothing else, i love the masterclass in acting he's putting on, his expressiveness is so impressive. he brings a very fun energy to the role

the church on ruby road has me feeling a bit mixed as well. the plot was kind of meh, and i didn't like how in the alternate universe ruby's mum was just so mean without her. it didn't make sense. like what makes ruby so special, hm 🤨 what's this one white blond baby got that all the other babies in the world don't 🤨 i know the point was to show how much ruby meant to her mum, but like. there are other ways to do it than have a complete 180 in characterization.

i'm honestly not super interested in the mystery of ruby's parentage (which apparently seems like it will be a huge thing unless they're just making stuff up to fake us out, in which case, good on them). but i don't want it to be some big reveal i'm sorry 😩 especially not because if it is, people will bend over backwards to say how great storytelling it is when they'd never say that if moffat did a plot like this. i hadn't even considered the possibility really, when i'd first watched it, i thought it's just not that deep, but maybe i'm wrong. the people who are theorizing that ruby is rose and tentoo's daughter are sooo funny though like

i also feel like we didn't....really get to know ruby that well? i'll reserve judgement to give them more time obviously, and millie seems very green (not a judgement on her, and she and ncuti seem to have a lot of fun energy together) so there's still time and there's a lot of time in general for the stories to get going, and it had to do double duty as a christmas special and an intro episode for both new doctor and new companion so like, my feelings may also change with time. anyways those are my thots for now

weirdly enough, gojo is like sasuke to me .-.

i don't mean personality wise, it's just a very personal thing where i would dislike sasuke because everyone and their mother would cream over him and write fanfics where... idk i just thought he was a douche yk (<- the reason why that didn't happen with naruto is because i had a childhood crush on him + literally the first scene i saw with sasuke was him trying to kill naruto so.. that wasn't a good meet cute for sauce gay and me yk) (<- <- the reason that didn't happen with kakashi (who also has that gojo effect thing imo when it comes to how the fandom thinks/interacts with his character) is bc i was 10 so i had the chance of not living the Kakashi Experience first hand)

and that's honestly the same thing with gojo, he irritates me so much somehow DHSHAD but also i think he's like sasuke to me in the way that, once i was "forced" to roleplay as sasuke (long story), i decided "well imma still be in character since i'm a GOOD roleplayer" yk? so i started thinking more and more about how he'd feel and think, his life etc, and that made me portray a sasuke that was accurate and well-liked (from what i gathered at least, and i really hope that was the case), but also that helped me separate him from the vision the fanworks i had consumed had made of him, idk if it's clear?

i mean if people wanna make sasuke ooc they should go for it, it just made me hate him as a character so that's just me LOL

and anyway i was thinking "hmmm i really wanna write a satosugu" when... tbf i don't really care about geto (he's interesting as a character but i don't care much about ANY jjk character tbh dshdhs except toge and maybe noritoshi), and honestly i just highly dislike gojo because of all the noise there is around him (Underrated Character Fan Behaviour 101 ik ik)

i just really like the dynamic and story of stsg, it's tragic lovers 101, especially with the last line gojo tells geto, that we don't hear but ykw i've read so many posts about it being "i love you" and how it's a curse/not a curse depending on the pov, it's driving me insane (/pos)

LOL that’s funny to come to a realization that way!! Tbh the way that these popular characters are written is often time off-putting and will turn you off from them. I love Sasuke to bits but I don’t dare step into the fic tags lest I be subjected to toxic and abusive relationships 💀 I think Sasuke’s written a lot better in sns ship fic (tho maybe I’m just biased haha). I think I’d say the same for gojo tho I haven’t read a lot of reader insert fic I just see a lot of it in passing / hear about it from gojo-loving moots. Maybe for characters such as these it’s better to form your own opinion and not take into account the fandom perception of the character… like I love gojo but I don’t really interact with the greater gojo fans yk? Same with s*susaku oriented Sasuke fans, since they are always dead wrong about him 💀

I’m definitely very protective of Sasuke in my mind like. Only people who are right about him can play with the Sasuke doll. To everyone else he’s off limits. LOL

Ruben, Antonia, and Russula - Ruben is definitely grumpy, I think the only thing that could make him smile is if you present him with some nice cheeses, or do something really stupid :p Toni, ofc is beautiful, she takes a lot of pride in her appearance, oh the style!! i wanna be her!! Russula.. isnt "evil", not really, but shes a demon lady so thats as close as you'll get x

The daughter of Ron & Desiree, she definitely has a knack for mechanics, even at such a young age. Jay is like the "fly on the wall" of the Maedas, so is Robin tbf, I think both of them sit in a corner and stare, but yeah totally quiet, unless he feels like being snarky, he just sits and is judgemental

the stolen heir thoughts

so apparently people are not liking this book. which icl is a little bit WILD to me because i thought it was brilliant.

but here are my thoughts on why that *might* (emphasis on MIGHT don't come at me if you have some ✨quirky✨ reason for why you didn't like it i literally don't care) be the case.

there will be some spoilers ahead, i will try to limit them, but you guys are pretty unpredictable anyway, just don't say i didn't warn you.

most people reading this duology have come straight from tfota (and if you're not wtf are you doing here, go sit your ass down and read tcp, you demon) and if that's the case, there is a high likelihood you are a reader who idolises jude and cardan and puts them on a pedestal (AS THEY DESERVE ABSOLUTE BEAUTIFUL ICONS.) and you know, although we were warned by holly that this first book would be in suren's perspective, it's not so comfortable to not only be so tantalisingly close to them and not see them (we want our babies back), but to see them, to see this world, to see other characters, too (like oak), through a completely different lens.

i've heard people saying it's flat for that, and i get we're returning to a world, it might feel like holly is just doing some recycling but icl i kinda really love the book for that, and it also seems like a really holly thing to do.

i mean sure, i could have maybe lived without madoc's return, but i also think that it really works.

back to the point tho, for suren, this is a very different world, her relationship with it is different, and the people in it, though familiar to us, are not to her, and i think the main thing to take away from this is to remember that not one of these characters are clear cut heroes or villains. they're people.

jude, to suren, is just a cold, harsh, strategic mortal queen — funnily enough, suren probably didn't get to read tfota, so hasn't experienced jude the way that we have, and the same for other characters that we are familiar with.

i mean think about it, when we read tfota and suren was described as 'creepy' and all that, did we bat an eyelid? no, we accepted it, mainly because we were seeing suren the way that jude and her family were, as a monster girl, whose parents wanted her to marry oak, and we didn't want that. we see it politically, also. when we see this through suren's eyes, all of a sudden, it's heartbreaking, and ofc it is, because she was a child, and she was being manipulated and used, she wasn't saved, she wasn't treated with any sort of love, from anyone.

but jude couldn't give her that love. for so many reasons. but still, that makes her seem like less of a hero (again, not that she was one to begin with.)

and if they're not the heroes anymore, if our way of seeing things suddenly becomes blurrier and less defined, where does that leave them? we feel like everything becomes less stable, because in most books, we're used to the protagonist telling us how we should feel.

so it feels like the possibility of things going south for our favourite characters is all too real, and no one likes that. i hate the idea of jude and cardan not getting their perfect happy ending, whatever that looks like... but i'm not too sure that i want it to look any different to how we expected it: them being in love, high king and queen forever and ever and having lots of children, until they get too old and tired and decide to retire together.

of course, the plot itself also destabilises the chances of this, but i won't go into that in detail here just in case someone with a taste for chaos has decided to read this far (!! i said begone, demon !!)

but here's the thing, like i said, in holly's books, the characters are first and foremost people. jude makes mistakes, does so many horrible things, and tbf in the reading community, we have a bit of a nasty habit of glorifying that, and just saying slay, she's a badass (which she IS, but also guys... murder... bad...?), especially when it's the main character (see the way people still villainize taryn... but that's a whole other discussion.) and what does that mean? it means independence. yes there's mention of fate in the books, but there is independence and true character growth.

now here's the thing. we have a whole other book to come. i doubt that holly is going to leave suren where she is (unless she does which could also be so cool and open up a whole new universe of opportunity for the direction in which elfhame goes and whilst this might be completely evil, i could so get behind that. ANYWAY) why is holly writing suren? what are suren's fears? what is suren's motivation rn? if we examine all of these things, we see that wren is still grappling with all of these things, and that the position she is in right now isn't going to help her or satisfy her.

suren's whole life has been dictated by the greed and megalomania of the people around her. she is suffering because of that exact greed and megalomania. power will not heal her, not like this, at least.

and finally, coming to oak. holly has already played the 'i-don't-want-to-be-king-but-ends-up-being-one-and-a-really-good-one-because-i-didn't-want-to-be-one-in-the-first-place' card with cardan. i don't personally think she's planning on playing it again with oak. i think it's a really clever way of suggesting at it, and reminding us, and showing us what we're used to, but i think oak is being honest. ofc, i also HOPE he is being honest.

there is also the next book's title to think about (the prisoner's throne) but in all honesty, i don't think speculating on that will be worthwhile. holly really could throw anything at us.

i have a couple of other thoughts, about jude and cardan and what might be going on there, but those thoughts don't really sit right with me and aren't really constructive to the happy endings lol so i don't like them and will not be sharing bc i do not have to !! 🥰

all in all, if you didn't like it because of what it suggests for our favourite high king and queen... anything could happen. i trust holly to write a book that truly devastates us all. but i hope that i've also shown you that what she has written is not unjustified. i'm not going to conclude with a what i think will happen, even though i have very strongly suggested it because i don't want to jinx anything... if i'm wrong, i'm wrong, and i'll happily be wrong, though i know my happiness isn't guaranteed...

ahh, if it isn't valentina's least favorite stepdaughter! lakjsdfkljdf tho tbf, rose and eithne meddling w princes and her son are making that contest a lil more difficult to win hahaha

ngl tho id say that brigit still has the lead in the 'worst child' competition in valentina's book and, certainly, grew up w the title! being the most rebelious and outspoken of the kids honestly means she was probs the least fav even when the dad was around tbqh and then i feel like that probs only got compounded as valentina treated them worse and worse and told herself it was all fine -- but brigit didn't agree! and was most likely to be outspoken abt it!

anyway, she probs knows or at least suspects that brigit is in on the pranks, and this paired w everything gets her called 'ingrate' and punished a lot. but tbh her punishments are probs usually things like 'bed w/o dinner' but given that her own sister is the cook and this is ~their home, idk how assiduously any of these edicts are obeyed hahaha

however, for more egregious disturbances, she gets lashes and/or locked in the cellar a la danielle de barbarac! however, i don't think valentina hands these things out super liberally bc mostly she ~does want to keep the girls loyal and working and she knows that if she's too cruel she'll lose that, plus the fact that both eithne and rose have royal ears at their disposal, i think she realizes that she has to be a lil more careful how she treads -- at least until she can marry them both off into some wretched little backwater where no one will ever hear from them again and then blacken their names to anyone who once held them in high esteem bc #familygoals

i do think w all the girls there ws a period -- and sometimes the impusle occasionally it raises its head again even now -- right after the dad died when valentina genuinely tried to lowkey bond w her stepdaughters but tbh she just ~isn't a warm and loving person but she isn't a monster -- she felt bad that they were orphaned and was aware they were now her responsibility etc. however, i don't think she ever particularly liked any of them (the biggest reason she loves her own kids is bc she can't help it and she views them as pieces of herself and she's quite egotistical) and it felt quite burdensome and there was some jealousy bc everyone there loved them far more than she and hers and so there was a lot of "affection" doled out in the backhanded compliment variety and yeah it was pr toxic even when it was slightly better laksdjfkldjsf

so yeah!!! idr what my larger point was here, but yeah i do think this does apply to all of the girls, even brigit, tho i think from pr much the v start brigit was her least fav bc she wasn't 'ladylike' enough etc and *sigh* yeahhh
