Another thing I love about the Temeraire series is that Laurence and Temeraire are so intensely platonic life partners. Like each is the most important individual in the other’s life, and they are so completely devoted to one another that time and time again they each break with laws and customs to stand by the side of the other. It’s such an interesting portrait of two characters who love each other so firmly that each in turn is willing to challenge his own perceptions and ingrained assumptions whenever they conflict with the idea that the other is anything less than a whole, actualized individual.

Billy Ray Cyrus much to think about here, especially vis-a-vis Laurence starting off as such an emblem of staid tradition and then slowly becoming more and more progressive as Temeraire’s youth and ‘new’ness forces him to reconsider his cultural paradigms through the lens of the hyper-intelligent and uninitiated. The Werewolf General

Cyrus is a general who everyone respects for his title. He is good at his job, that's what he wanted. He leads people, he helps the Jarl, he ignores his pain, he is skilled, and the list goes on.

But once he's a werewolf, he is just a monster in everyone's eyes. Hated, feared, hunted down to be killed. People don't know he's the white werewolf, but still, he loses all of the respect once he's that monster.

The beast inside him impacts him a lot even when it's not unleashed. While it's making his life difficult, it made him realize a lot about people.

A general and a werewolf. The same person. Respected and hated.

Oh this is fun!!! I have given durge!Cyrus and Ketheric some thought before actually, in that I think it would be hard for Ketheric to not feel something pre-amnesia for all the very visible ways that Bhaal uses Cyrus' body against him, from the cracks to the serrated wings to the harbinger aasimar abilities, the viscerally embodied demands of an unloving god are familiar to Ketheric. Also pre-amnesia Cyrus is very serious & respectful in a way that Gortash & Orin are not, so Ketheric definitely preferred to work with Cyrus. Two knights etc. etc.

In-game, post-tadpoling, Cyrus succeeds in talking Ketheric down. It's so important for him to see good in the people from his old life because that might mean that there's good in him too. And were it not for the limitations of the game, I could absolutely see that blossoming into something more, working together to cast off their gods & redeem themselves disgraced pally4disgraced pally style. And as Cyrus rebuilds himself and develops deeper relationships, he also develops an understanding of and sympathy for the grief that drove Ketheric to do what he did... because Cyrus is also painfully bad at letting go of the people he loves.

Also like Ketheric's undeath vs Cyrus being made to be the last person alive? So much to chew on there, the potential for shared comfort over bodily alienation & all the ways that their gods have changed & used them.....! And i think that they just both need a good hug & snuggle & then they'll calm down and also cyrus thinks he looks hot on that throne

regardless of actual sibling!au shenanigans or not know that cyrus and fawn - or more specifically sunlight and breeze - are canon to me for river in every run from now on.
