:O funnily enough, havfruens was on my mind while I was writing butler Jade!!! I was listening to this music playlist and the songs inspired me to write soft, angsty non-con for the order. But it reminded me of havfruens the entire time. Doomed (one-sided) romance... orz Jade liking you in spite of everything he's been through when every part of him knows he ought to dislike you and your kingdom and everything in between. T_T I just love to make the fish suffer angst (you're next, Floyb).

Thank you so much for eagerly awaiting the sequel to havfruens!! It's going to be filled with lots of emotions. It has everything I adore writing: suspense, angst, conflict, confrontation, schemes, unlikely friendships, and so much more!!!!! I'm not sure if there will be any smut scenes like in the first part, but that's subject to change hehe.

Summary:

WHAT A PHENOMENAL GAME!!! Truly what a great “conclusion” to the main trilogy. You learn so much about Layton, Luke, flora, and many other characters like don paolo. The ending reveal of Clive was CRAZY. It really reminded me of movies like howls moving castle/the iron giant. I also just love how complex Clive is. He was driven to violence because of how the government treated him and his family, but he never truly wanted to hurt people. He was without any hope and thought mass destruction would finally bring some change to the government, but he also made sure to include Layton in his plans because he so desperately wanted someone to stop him. It’s tragic and terrorism definitely wasn’t the way to go but at least this is a fictional story and that death machine looked kinda sick Ngl. The story of Layton and Claire was also so tragic yet so healing. Layton could finally take off his hat without feeling grief, you never would’ve known he was hurting that much. I loved Claire, she seemed like such an amazing person and I’m glad Layton wasn’t swayed to try to bring her back, although he did falter when he had to say goodbye again. Although I highly enjoyed the game, I am slightly disappointed there was no actual evil Layton. How fun would a game with evil Layton be omg. The whole game constantly caught me by surprise, even by small scenes like Beasly and PUZZLETTE. I’m still a littel confused about the lab experiments with Gumbo and subject 3, I’m not quire sure why they added that plot (and have no resolution) but I liked Gumbo fine. My favorite coin animal will always be hot dog though. I cannot recommend this series enough, I am having the time of my life. I can also see how DGS was heavily inspired by these games and im so glad about it bc dgs was game changing. I can’t believe there was a 26 year wait in between UF and NWOS but im glad to be a Layton fan :’) so fucking glad!!!!

A quick list of animes I watched and don't want to forget 3:

Satsuriku no Tenshi - it was a short story with an easy to forget plot and characters I could root for. Tbh it hooked me with the never ending suspense and Zack. And I'll never forget the heartbreak at the end. So toxic and broken and tragic. The horror elements were fun, sometimes scary even so 7/10! Demon slayer - Its a bingeable shounen. The story is mid, the animation is cool, the MC is kind and likeable + i love how they show us the difference between "city japan" and "rural japan" (especially technology and behaviour-wise), but the constant screaming and second hand embarrassement is just too much. And besides getting stronger and using better techniques there are no character arcs (as of in S2). The boar + thunder kid just ruined the whole series for me t_t And the mountain peasant/animalistic superpower schtick is boring as hell after an episode or two. 6.5/10

Samurai Champloo - y2k graffiti/breakdance meets samurais. Boi, what an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G anime! The AV, OST, art style, all the fight scenes and character design... all of it is 10/10. Of course the found family trope can never be trumped, however the story itself was adventurous, not repetitive (except for them never having money lol), captivating, witty and emotional when it needed to be. Also the episodes tie into each other a lot, which makes the storytelling natural (+ its not just episodes put in order). The MC's are all 3D with weaknesses, believable behaviors and distinct manners + they have easy to remember names and styles. Watching the messy trio's friendship come to live is something I want to witness again for sure.

Konosuba! - A surprisingly bad and adorable parody of the isekai genre that I could only watch all the way through after the 3rd attempt. Most characters are completely helpless/stupid/naive but in an oddly charming way. The MC is ofc a pervert neet that is insufferable, but his oversexualized companions are cute, their friendship is cute, and their boobs are huge. Watch it while having dinner 6/10

Ouran highschool host club - light hearted and stupid and has some second hand embarrassement, but its a must watch! I wish the artstyle was different tho :/ 8.5/10

The Apothecary Diaries - Sherlock Holmes meets chinese historical romance fanfic. Beautiful, captivating and rewatchable. Very dreamy (but i have a feeling that theres going to be a lot of drama and sadness in the future? idk i havent started the light novel yet) 9/10

Midnight Occult Civil Servants - its so much more worth it than ppl think! Yes, the power of friendship is strong in this one, buuuut 1) its not overdone 2) the story is not sugarcoated and there are some interesting philosophical topics that we touch throughout the episodes 3) even though the MC is a naive and ridiculously hard working boy, he learns a lot from his mistakes and kinda grows up. His friends are lovely too! I just wish that their design was a bit more detailed, the animation got a bit more budget and that we could have gotten a bit more chapters... 8/10!

Mignon - a korean BL manwha adaptation. Each episode is around 5 mins so the story isnt too complicated. It has vampires (why dont we get more of them nowadays??) and sexy man-love. 6.5/10

Golden Boy - It is a golden comedy (and educational) anime and it's so humorous that I actually laughed watching it. At first it seems annoying/ridiculous but from the end of the first episode I understood the premise and the point of the anime. The boy doesnt learn much, but the women around him do. 7.5/10

Kamisama Kiss - I loved it at the beginning and then felt really let down by it, cuz 1) I learned about the end of the story and got pissed off (because ***SPOILER ALERT who the fuck thought that giving up your occult superpowers and long life is romantic? WHO?***) and 2) it got so rushed at the end. The art style is not my favorite ad some of the frames looked cheap, but I loved the comical use of expressions and some of the designs were really cool. 6/10 (and -100/10 because of the ending of the manga. Seriously. Fuck that.)

Varl (Horizon)

Aloy did not appreciate this good dude nearly enough. I want Varl to be my BFF. T_T But HFW happened and... I won't say too much about that or we'd be here all day. He's alive in my head and that's all that matters.

Cimorene (The Enchanted Forest Chronicles)

Cimorene! She's no-nonsense and clever. She wasn't a fan of being treated like a princess so she went and "got captured by" a dragon so people would stop bothering her, and helps her cook and organize her library. I mean, goals.

Loki (MCU)

I wasn't into the MCU when it started getting big, and in fact I didn't see any of the movies until I read someone on Tumblr (c. 2012) going on about (paraphrased) how awful it was that people liked Loki because he was the absolute worst and if you liked him you were a gross immoral person and you should feel bad. So I went and watched this Avengers movie everyone was talking about. And guess what haters? He is terrible and I love him.

Parker (Leverage)

Although I am not brave enough to throw myself off buildings, sometimes I amuse myself by thinking "what would Parker do?" and since a canonical option involves stabbing someone who's bothering her with a fork and jumping out a window, the thought cheers me up even if I can't do that.

Aziraphale (Good Omens)

He just wants people (aside from Crowley) to leave him alone in his bookshop. He never fits in with his "side" but tries to do what they want anyway, because that's the good thing to do, and he wants to be good. I can relate so hard, buddy.

Milo Thatch (Atlantis: The Lost Empire)

Ok so... I totally had a crush on Michael J. Fox and I was already interested in linguistics back when this movie came out, and then here's a main character voiced by him who was a linguist! Milo had to be my favorite :D

Elena Fisher (Uncharted)

I will fully admit that some of my initial love of Elena came from her AI covering my panic-flailing self early on in the first Uncharted game (I'm THE WORST at games with guns, even on easy, it's actually embarrassing) - but she impressed me right away when she was not overly impressed by Nate. And her snark game is on point.

Zeb (Star Wars Rebels)

I feel like Zeb needs more love. Comic relief character who actually has an unbelievably tragic backstory! And his story has so much untapped potential! We never really get to explore what happened with Lasan, and then then dump Kallus in there with his defection to the Rebellion and his whole *handwaves* history with the Lasats and eventual apparent (b)romance with Zeb - and the show had so little to say about it! Huge angsty storytelling miss right there. (Dave why.)

Brian Finch (Limitless [2015])

This dude! Lovable but he would be SO exasperating to deal with IRL. His arts-and-craftiness just resonated with me. He was always making stuff out of toothpicks and yarn and papier mâché and clay and and and- I'm still mad this show only got one season.

Lost Without You by Julia_Skysong

alternates between mike-centric and will-centric; some plot. will and mike are 26 now and haven’t talked in years, since mike disconnected himself from the entire party. will has a career writing comics based on their experiences with the upside down. mike surprises him when he brings his 7-year-old daughter to one of will’s signings, causing them to reconnect. this fic deals with a lot of heavy topics about homophobia, trauma and addiction but it’s not a constant misery-fest. will and mike’s reblossoming friendship is very sweet and mike’s daughter is adorable. the burn is slow but it suits the story perfectly and feels a lot more healthy and organic than rushing into things. love isn’t framed as a cure-all for their issues, and i really appreciate that. multichapter, ongoing

If you'd still like to help, then below there's a new idea from this morning that I could use some thoughts on. Because it is floating in my head kinda premature and I'm not sure whether it is good and how to make it good yet. But I feel like sharing and discussing it could help?

(And you can stop me in case it is a terrible idea for some reason)

I am highly considering adding a scene where 13 is alone on a mission and imagines River and Yaz at her side. (as you do when you have no one to show off to. And those two are very much on her mind for obvious reasons.) And then the two figments of imagination start talking and flirting and asking the difficult questions.

(this is before Yaz and River have been formally introduced btw but after Yaz has learnt of River's existence)

Because for all that is happening in the fic so far and all the talks that will be had, there is no scene with the three of them talking heartache, yet. And while that makes sense for the Doctor, I kinda feel like she might crack and do it on her own under too much pressure. Because she knows she fucked up on both fronts there. And she is hurting on both front, too.

There is a certain tragic element to neither Yaz nor River getting that closure (and neither the Doctor tbh because she didn't actually talk to them - also because I kinda feel like making them be interrupted before they get anywhere productive) that I like. Plus, it could be funny/satisfying for the reader when they call her out. And I would let the imaginations be brutally honest with her. Also they'd be very distracting but still urging her to get the mission done.

Kinda 13 having a breakdown in the middle of hacking some machinery and the 'bad guys' find her half arguing with, half apologising to shadows instead of saving the day.

Just - 'you're always here to me' applies to Yaz, too (even when she's just gone for a few minutes). Plus, I kinda like the mirror image of hologram!13 helping Yaz on her missions vs imaginary Yaz helping the Doctor (or in this case rather distracting her but it implies that she helps other times). Also because 'what would Yasmin Khan do' is supposed to be a thing in my mind and it is a crime that we never saw it explicitly in canon.

Not sure I will come up with something concrete yet, but I do have a spot in the fic where it would fit perfectly.

Any thoughts? Does this make sense at all?

okok for the maple and sou question: so because maple wanting to kill him was kind of part of her programming as an obstructor, that wouldn’t really apply here, but that idea is still SO funny to me?? i’ll def have to doodle that at some point lmaooo

their dynamic here is actually really polite! i see them as being good buddies :) maple is one of the participants who’s closer to sou, because she very much wants to work together with the others and see the good in everyone. it’s very much like. “awwww what a nice guy!” and then the guy in question is plotting murder ahsjkskdks

just as an example:

although, i still can def see sou being a little bit scared of her, because maple very much can be scary when she wants to. she’s very opposed to the ideas that the death game perpetuates, what with suspecting and betraying one another, and so while most of her ire is directed towards the floormasters, she can also get pretty pissed when the actual participants try to trick each other. so…yeah, sou tries to stay on her good side and be a nice boy. but he also does genuinely think she’s neat!

for the shin and sou question: i wasn’t actually going to talk about the second main game for at least a little while, but im horrible at keeping secrets anyways and talking about this excites me, so why the hell not!!

so, while over time i’ve leaned less into the idea of a character’s “role” determining the actions they take (e.g. just because shin takes kanna’s role doesn’t mean he acts like kanna), the one thing i have stuck to is that when one character takes another’s role, they will always die at the same point in the story. i wanted to also incorporate ‘branching paths’ for ytr as well, because it’s one of the things that really sticks out to me about yttd!

…so yeah the second main game vote is either between voting for shin or sou (or technically ranmaru, but then everyone else would die). it’s vv tragic to me, because i love both of them </3 but i do what i must for angst.

i’m definitely going to give the main games their own posts (and almost 100% some art as well) in the future, but if you’ll allow me to get a bit rambly about shin and sou’s dynamic here and how it affects the main game, ehehe… ^_^

sou and shin at the beginning of the death game very much start out with ulterior motives. yes, they are friends, but they also gain something out of allying with each other: someone who they can rely on/who can vouch for them, which improves their chances of surviving. so they act all buddy-buddy, but there’s definitely tinges of manipulation going on from both sides (and while they realize exactly what’s happening they still acknowledge that this “trade-off” (both literally and metaphorically lol) is a good deal for both of them)

but throughout the death game they end up getting a lot more comfortable/vulnerable with each other, and soon enough they realize they really care about each other (really, they have the whole time). and this obviously complicates things because them wanting to protect each other throws a wrench in the whole “every-man-for-himself” ideology they’ve been preaching.

so, kind of like kanna, sou tries to get the sacrifice card during the second main game trading phase, but he does it with the intention of having him and shin escape together. …he does not actually get the card because the cards get swapped by gashu (there’s different reasoning for why they’re swapped this time but i’ll get into that in another post as well probably). hence, pain.

i envision the end of the 2nd main game being almost a screaming match between the two as they desperately try to convince everyone else to “vote for me so he can live!” (sort of like the shin and kanna vote but even angrier) (because kanna is a sweetheart and sou is Not) (it’s horribly ironic as i’d consider shin and sou the two characters with the strongest survival instinct in this cast, yet they are both driven to self-sacrifice here)

okok uhhhh sorry for the long tangent as you can see i’m evidently insane about these two’s dynamic in this au! ANYWAYS this vote is a lot different from the shin & kanna one because no matter who ryoko votes for as the tiebreaker, the one who survives will be PISSED. and by god they try everything to make her life a living nightmare in chapter 3 (because. being ryoko is suffering)

in all seriousness i absolutely ADORE bluebird. i watched csm and didnt feel too much towards it and then i read bluebird and aki singlehandedly convinced me to read the manga (best and most tragic decision of my life btw). something about the atmosphere and tone you've created in the story is so hauntingly beautiful and i love the picture it paints

Hii! I just read dps and I wanted to share my overall experience with the book!! :) just to clarify, no, I haven’t watched the movie before, I wanted to read the book first.

A quick summary!!

My feeling throughout reading the book.. T_T

The book was really interesting and emotional, it truly touched me and even made me cry a bit.. which therefore doesn’t happen really often when I’m reading. The story was very intriguing and the plot wasn’t too complicated, which I’m positively surprised in..

I played FF9 first time when I was 4 or 5 and my mom was teaching me how to read with this game! She said "If you want to understand what they are saying, you need to read yourself!" and I really started to read! She helped me a lot but I did my best because I loved characters and the game really much... Very smol Fareeha was enjoying the story when the man appeared on the screen:

He appears 3 times in the game as a phantom and I like them all? I suppose the most tragic is the one when we call him to defeat Rom... I don't know maybe they never knew each other, but in my headcanons he decides to kill her because wants Yharnam's nightmare to end and to fix what Micolash did by helping the player... It's painful for him to kill her and shall I mention that he may kill Yurie also if player wants so? I think Spider Rom realises everything what is going on she just knows that it needs to happen, that's why she fights us - to test us if we are really the one who will end the Nightmare like many bosses in souls-like games do... T_T

44 Q_Q Happiest memory - I will tell from my own vision of Damian's life? Since we don't know anything about Damian for sure, I just live in my own vision of all Bloodborne lore. I think it's the moment when he got to know Micolash closer in Byrgenwerth and realised that Mico is the one who he wants to care for, make him happy and give everything from himself. When he mutually fell in love but there was no violence, experiments, madness, just a time when Micolash was curious young student and Damian was a librarian... There were no ambitions and lethal plans, only casual problems and college routines, science and romantic...

And one more happy memory - when he was a Tomb Prospector and was teaching Gremia how to read! Among all of horrors of chalice dungeons that they explored, Research Hall experiments and Micolash who digged into observation of the sea, Damian felt very lonely, tried not to think about what is going of with people in Research Hall. He couldn't do anything with that at all or help them - it would mean to betray Micolash.

And then he gained a chance to take his mind off his problems! He just spent cozy evening with Gremia showing him how to spell letters and words, how to read fast. They were joking, having fun and kissing and... <3 (I have headcanon that Gremia was growing up on Yharnam's streets and earned money for life with fighting with bets. He didn't know how to read and write because it's all for "rich people" who can afford books at least. So he had problems with the Church which wanted Tomb Prospector to read and learn prayers... lol...)

49 I think his favourite toy was plushie bunny! Old, with button-like eyes, dusty, but loved by little Damian. I have no idea why but it's a strong headcanon. I have a vision of his childhood and that he had little brother named Irzhie. Irzhie was constantly ill and died at the age of 4. Irzhie died while sleeping and little Damian didn't understand that he is dead he thought that Irzhie was sleeping. And little Damian was just playing for his ill brother making a little theatre out of toys and his favourite plushie bunny. He learned the truth from parents later and couldn't realise what happened... Small kids can't understand what is death it's hard for them to realise that the person will never move or talk again... I think Damian's toy is buried with Irzhie T_T

I just have so many questions that i want you to answer some are maybe about ur yandere series, my queen, and the angel enhypen series ( so many questions T - T )

1 quetion is how did you come up with the idea of making the yandere route series like for heeseung and jungwon and the other members etc the plots for each member really fascinates me a lot!!)

2.for my queen series i realized that in the beginning it seemed so that jake was a very important charachter and i persume is the person who wanted the dukes daughters painting to stay in the castle is he the member with the biggest connection to the MC or is it someone else???

3. For the my angel series what fascinates me is gow powerful the mc is i so wanna know her backstory and how shes nuch more powerful than the enhypen members and also makes them tempted to be seduced by her.

1) for the yandere series and it's routes, the ideas pretty much came from what i prefer from yanderes cuz i read ALOTTT of yandere fics for many years alrd lol, but most of them never rlly satisfies my own imagination for yanderes but that's okay! also i added some of my personal traits/interests for the plot. but if we have to be a bit specific for a single route, specifically route 1: then the inspirations mainly came from my awful past, and second -> the anime mirai nikki for the ideas of texting + phone. route 2 is like an outlet for my artistic side, plus jungwon is my muse so it all blends perfectly.

2) i can't seem to guess why u said jake when i haven't mention him anywhere in the teasers or the first episode T_T do u mean jay tho? but to answer the next question, i have to say that the entire story for my queen is a little complex and vast, and there are multiples route for each event that i haven't decided which one to go through yet. but for now, i can probably say yes.

3) well, for MC's backstory.. the first episode might be able to suffice your curiosity enough because there will be a glimpse of her past before she became a succubus. but what i can say for now is that of course, it ends on a tragic note. but it's also the reason why she became so powerful in the end anyways.

oh my goood..... so my favourite tropes to write and read are hidden injuries (to the point characters cant hide them anymore), exhaustion and lulling characters to sleep, and time loops which. if you look at my gifts, if you look at things ive written (including nameless) then you know that i like time loops, and even THAT is not scratching the surface. my first fic (now deleted T_T) was an x reader that was also a time loop fic. and it was meant to be very tragic. but i never finished it because i was new to the website and was very embarrassed that i had been updating and not changing the date the chapter was published. my novel's whole EVERYTHING is about a time loop, a lot of my unpublished stories are about time loops. also if youve been in a server with me you KNOW that i like time loops time loops and sleepy boys are the two tags that i talked about the most in an osomatsu-san writer's server like. it was insane

i've also discovered a newfound joy for writing violence and fight scenes! i think ive improved a bit with fight scenes; my friend tot once told me (once = 2019) that my fight scenes read like theyre happening in a vacuum and i try to avoid that as much as possible nowadays. i think they have improved quite a bit. and theyre also so fun to write? violence and fighting and arguing is so dynamic and so much fun to write. i still love writing exhaustion and those quiet, calming scenes, but i also really love violence. its the difference between dusty blues and bright red. i love watching people read my stories when scenes are violent and bloody and messy and seeing them like. Actually back away from the screen. its so fun. its even better knowing that the violence i write now is not for shock like it used to be; it all serves a purpose. and my violence is a lot like j-horror violence (literally kaede crawling around on the floor with loose chunks of flesh covering her vision is so much like the ghost girl with long hair covering her eyes to me. its everything. its very witch's house which was also a goal with that)

My spread for To The Moon! A friend recommended me this game and although there were a lot of things I really liked about this game, I really really don't like sad stories so this particular game just wasn't for me. The storytelling and art and music was all super well done!! I just hate reading or watching something that will leave me depressed afterwards.

So I do recommend this game if you like sad stories and my score is very subjective to my personal tastes, so don't let that deter you if you are interested in this game. I also gave Celeste a low score even though if I had watched a playthrough instead of playing it, it would've been way higher (I hated the mechanics but loved the art and storytelling). It's just not for me and that's totally okay!

Summary:

Although I liked the story and thought the thing was very wellmade, this game just wasn't my particular cup of tea. Similar to Celeste, I prob would've liked it if I had watched it instead. It's a depressing tale esp after realizing all the work you do is just some simulation and joey still died and river still died heartbroken. It's absolutely a game I'd recommend for people who like sad/sappy stories but it's not something I'd personally replay. Idk if I'll watch or play through the extra content, again this story just made me kinda depressed and i don't enjoy this feeling. I'm also confused why they acted like river's diagnosis was taboo or smth, she had smth like autism right? Why did they say so... The art style is very cute and the animations were done incredibly well. The environments were especially superbly made. The controls were a little odd esp for the mini games. A little disappointed I didn't learn to use the arrow keys until the last ten minutes of the game. Eva and Neil were fun characters, i liked their dynamic. I understand the structure of the story and finding key pieces of their life, but the gameplay got pretty repetitive and tedious until the switch in act 2/3. Overall, a good game with beautiful designs and simple mechanics. If you like sad/tragic stories then I def recommend. This game reminds me a lot of UP (the movie) so I think MC would really like this game (an old teacher of mine).

Also a little note on my comments for autism, I also have autism so it just felt a little weird playing this game. I'm sure the attitudes around autism were much different in the time they were depicting (probably around the mid to late 20th century) but it still rubbed me the wrong way that it seemed everyone treated river poorly, especially her husband. And I also just hate miscommunication tropes so bad so part of that really played into some of the diagnosis and storytelling. Again, not a game for me personally and these were just my critiques but I'm not actually or seriously offended by this game, I just hate sad shit!!!!!!

Review:

I typically hate learning about history. The delivery is usually so dry and boring and I can never pay attention for longer than a few seconds, but I’ve always been fascinated with Greek history since I was very young, but more so in the last few years. Probably because of my theatre background. And when I picked up the Song of Achilles, I was not expecting it to be about the actual history. I didn’t honestly know what to expect other than a tragic ending from everyone saying “ugh Youre going to cry”

But I learned more about the Trojan war from this book than I did from any history class I’ve taken (apologies to my past teachers. You tried. It’s not you it’s me).

Patroclus is too pure for this world. He was so kind to everyone and he was filled with anxiety like constantly. And I know this is a historical retelling but I like to think that it actually happened.

Achilles, honestly, started off beautifully. I thought he was going to die beautifully, but by the end of the book, I actually started to hate him. And he died a very mortal death. He became so mean and so hardened from fighting and he treated Patroclus like pretty much nothing. (Maybe it’s because I see a lot of myself in Patroclus. Or a lot of Patroclus in me… cause he is a historical figure). But he is a lot nicer in this retelling than he was throughout history.

The story telling of this book kept me going. The way that Miller wrote so poetically, made it feel like an actual diary. The way that Achilles and Patroclus were so in love, like they were half of a soul, brought me to tears at some points. And if I don’t find a love like that then what’s the point T_T

Patroclus is made of memories. And my heart ached for him. But I wish that this book portrayed him as more than a frail boy. He was a fearsome warrior.

And if the underworld is real, I hope their souls are dancing together for all eternity.

But overall, if I don’t think of it as a history, and as a love story, it’s pretty good. Is it a romanticized version of history? Absolutely. Whether that’s good or bad is up to you. But this book is a stepping stone for me to learn more.

Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022) dir. Guillermo del Toro, Mark Gustafson: I was really excited to watch this after seeing the trailer but I wasn't expecting it to be a musical. I loved that they used a biblically accurate angel for the Blue Angel rather than the traditional look. I can't believe it took like 15 years to make it.

Split (2016) dir. M. Night Shyamalan: I rewatched this because I needed Anya Taylor Joy content and I couldn't get through the first episode of The Queen's Gambit. It's still a pretty great movie, but I hate that cheesy ending line lol.

Anastasia (1997) dir. Don Bluth, Gary Goldman: I grew up watching this movie throughout my childhood, so I already have a huge bias toward it. It's so great. The characters and their dynamic is so likable and the songs are so GOOD.

The Mummy (1999) dir. Stephen Sommers: Another film I grew up watching. It's a lot more problematic than I remember T_T. Also cheesy but it was the 90s so you could kind of get away with it.

Emily, The Criminal (2022) dir. John Patton Ford: I was surprised by how much I liked this one. It's fast-paced, which is good for my pea brain. They make the character Emily easy to empathize with. Especially now when it's hard to afford to live, vulnerable people are targeted for these "get rich, quick" scams. I remember seeing so many of those ads whenever I went on YouTube for quite some time. Idk, I liked this one.

Bo Burnham: Inside (2021) dir. Bo Burnham: I always heard people talking about how great Bo Burnham was. I remember seeing his vines, but I never got into watching his stuff. I feel like the humour doesn't quite suit my taste, but I appreciate his work ethic and his capacity for making such a high-quality musical comedy. He's pretty fucking awesome.

Dreams (1990) dir. Akira Kurosawa: In a quest to research the Japanese folklore of fox weddings during sun showers, I watched this movie. It's just so pretty. I love the last story, where it's the small village and the funeral is more of a celebration. Just a gorgeous film.

Incantation (2022) dir. Kevin Ko: Heard from my roommate that this film was really scary. And I can confirm that it was. I watched half of it from between my fingers. Story wise, though, it was quite interesting. It’d be a fun watch for a group.

Atonement (2007) dir. Joe Wright: Another gorgeous film. I’ve always seen screen caps of it and have even watched Mina Le’s breakdown of the costuming from the film. I think the visuals are stronger than the story. Emotion wise, it feels like a less hard-hitting titanic.

Extreme Job (2019) dir Lee Byeong-heon: I watched this with my roommate! It’s a fun, chill watch. Just overall a good time.

The Volcano: Rescue From Whakaari (2022) dir. Rory Kennedy: Some time earlier this year I remember seeing volcanic scarring that looked like the most intense, painful thing someone could ever experience. And I read up about the victim and they were hurt during the volcanic eruption in New Zealand a few years ago. The documentary is quite tragic, and interesting if anybody is up to watch it.

Klaus (2019) dir. Sergio Pablos: Such a cute movie. The scene where the mailman is giving paper and pencils and stamps out like it’s a drug deal actually made me audibly laugh. I’m surprised its 2D animation. It’s a really great Christmas movie for the whole family.

Brave (2012) dir. Brenda Chapman, Mark Andrews: AH. I still love this movie after so many years. I first watched it when I was in grade 5 as an “end of year” trip. It’s so good, story wise. As a young adult, I feel like I can’t relate to it as much - to my surprise. I think my older sister could probably relate to it more. I have a good relationship with my mom, which I’m super grateful for. I want to make a film about ME. Lmfao.

The Wonder (2022) dir. Sebastian Lelio: I wasn’t as interested in this film. It’s rather a frustrating watch to be honest. If you want visuals of Ireland and Florence Pugh, I’d give this one a go.

Marriage Story (2019) dir. Noah Baumbach: Ever since watching this film I’ve been seeing Adam Driver everywhere, it seems. I didn’t expect to feel for this movie as much as I did. I think the pacing was done very well. The letter reading at the end is what got me. :’(

Alice in Borderland, Season 2 (2022): Season 2 was better than season 1. Because this world and its rules are already established, I think the show got to focus more on the characters and their relationships. The action sequences were quite fun and I am SO surprised that they didn’t end it in a shitty way. I’m happy the characters got their happy ending but that there’s still room for exploration into this world. The last challenge, though was a little TOO LONG. DAMN.

Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) dir. James Cameron: Okay so I wasn’t excited or looking forward to this sequel at all. I was quite indifferent toward it and wasn’t planning on watching it in theatres. But I ended up watching it with my family and it’s literally my new hyperfixation. I’m actually listening to the original motion picture soundtrack as I’m writing - and that’s not a joke. I’ve heard people say that the story is simple, and I suppose I can agree - its basically the family having to escape from the war and a revenge plot from the enemy side. And I’ve seen people wonder why its 3 hours long. And, it definitely felt like the film would never fucking end but, then again… did I really want it to…? In that time, I felt like I could actually get attached to the characters and this new family. I often really like media that makes me go through a lot of emotions and this was one of them. I need Avatar 3, 4, 5, & 6 and whatever else James Cameron is planning. I need to go visit Pandora in Disney World, even. Zoe Saldana, I love you.

Avatar (2009) dir. James Cameron: I ended up rewatching Avatar right after coming back from watching The Way of Water. I first watched this when I was 8 years old. I never really got to appreciate the absolutely insane world building that was put into this film, but now, as a student that wants to try pursuing film and maybe (?) visdev, I’m just astounded by the creatures and the religion and the plant life of the Na’vi people and how it’s been expanded on in Avatar 2. Again, a simple story, but I felt all the emotions so I love it.

Logan (2017) dir. James Mangold: Probably one of the best superhero movies I’ve seen. It still holds up today. Another emotional ride, so I’m inclined to say it’s a favourite. It’s almost… quiet. Like - it doesn’t do too much. All the marvel movies these days are doing too much. It’s kind of embarrassing. Can you tell I’m getting a little tired of writing about all the things I’ve watched? And I’m only on visual media. Anyways - this, the original Spider-Man movies, the last Spider-Man movie from MCU, and the Spiderverse movies and maybe Winter Soldier are the only superhero movies I have the patience to watch anymore.

Knives Out (2019) dir. Rian Johnson: It was so fun! Something I don’t have to pay that much attention to because I know I’ll likely never be able to solve it. I know they spent most of the budget of this film on the cast because everyone in there is fucking crazy.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022) dir. Rian Johnson: I think the first one is better.

Lead Me Home (2021) dir. Pedro Kos, Jon Shenk: It’s only about 40 minutes, so it’s a quick documentary. It’s eye opening. Makes me feel bad because I’m one of those people that don’t look homeless people in the eye when I walk past them. But I don’t think that’s the point of the doc. There’s obviously something very wrong with the housing system and to see that anybody could end up in such an unfortunate situation is scary. It’s especially sad seeing the people who have family that could help them, but I also understand their point of not wanting to be a burden on their friends or family.
