Alright! Had to open notepad for this one. For the self-isolation asks, emojis 🎯💡and 🎟️. For the pretty word asks, words lover, galaxy, and honey. For the cat asks, words tabby, siamese, munchkin, ragdoll, and maine coone! - Blaire (I need song recommendations can you tell? lmao)
OOOO that’s a lot of questions!!! imma throw on a song so i can answer all these without my adhd trying to screm
Tumblr media
🎯 if you could gain any skill instantly, what would it be?
aaa,, this is kinda expected for me ig??? but definitely the skill to draw good anatomy w/o reference--it’s so frustrating to be limited to poses that have been photographed!! i want to make intricate and weird stuff!!
💡 what hobby did you start doing most recently?
oooo!! okay this one’s kind of complicated--i’ve been playing piano on and off since i was like. really young . but i started picking it up more seriously (and by seriously i mean playing chords and shit to sing along to) very recently and i believe that’s my most recent hobby, unless my divination stuff counts--bc that’s a bit more recent!
🎟  what are some artists/bands whose music brings back childhood memories for you?
OH BOY UR JUST ASKING FOR ALL THE EMO BANDS LMAO,, okay but for real, it’s not all emo bands. all time low is the first one to come to mind, but as a kid i was also a huge taylor swift fan (and i still love her music, it’s more of a guilty pleasure now tho,,)--and like anything from before the 90s brings back childhood memories of my mom trying to force me to listen to it!! i hated it back then, but now i’ve gained a new appreciation for all sorts of music, and the only thing i don’t really like is certain jazz singers,, don’t really know any names LMAO but i really do recommend all time low if you wanna listen to some music!!! my fav songs by them are dancing with a wolf and remembering sunday!
lover: what’s your favourite song?
oh this changes like every 10 seconds i’m not gonna lie--but at the moment it’s a russian song!! i’ll just drop the spotify link::  > click me !
galaxy: your favourite and least favourite films?
OH THAT’S A HARD ONE,,, i don’t watch a lot of movies/films,,, but i think my favorites have to be the it movies from 2017 and 2019 (so chapter 1 and chapter 2) [and generally anything that finn wolfhard stars in ? he’s fuckin amazingngngngngng he’s actually my special interest rn ,,,] and,, a least favorite would probably be um,,, poltergeist i guess? i love horror movies but i fell asleep watching it when i was younger and it never really interested me!!
honey: what’s your favourite memory?
OMG my favorite memory is totally breaking my arm about a year ago!! the whole experience was so surreal, and it was fuckin hilarious!! i don’t wanna post the whole story here since this post is getting,, really long but. if you wanna hear abt that just inbox me again and i’ll laugh my ass off typing it all up!!!
tabby: do you have any weird/hidden/obscure talents?
YES I DO--for one i can move my pinky toes individually, and on my right foot i can move my fourth toe as well (but not on my left?) !!! i can also do that thing where u stretch ur thumb all the way back OR forward (depends on which hand we’re talking abt) to touch ur wrist lmAO!! i’m also an avid horseback rider!! well,, i was before i broke my arm, but i do want to get back in the saddle!! there’s just a lot going on with the healing process right now, broken titanium plate and all that,,, will post abt that if you want me to as well!!
siamese: any tattoos/piercings? (if so: which? if not: which would you get?)
OOO LOVE THIS!!!! for piercings, i have an industrial bar on my left ear, and my lobes are stretched to 12g !! my parents said i can’t go any bigger til i’m an adult but i plan on going all the way to 0g, maybe slightly bigger? idk ! and i don’t have any tattoos yet, BUT i know my first tattoo is gonna be a treble/bass clef heart with a heart monitor line through it on my left wrist!! i want my second tat to be my favorite horse (and the one that broke my arm) running between the surgery scars on my left arm!! and then for a third tattoo, on my right wrist i want to get something to match with my mom. she’s got a dopamine molecule tattoo so i was thinking i’d get serotonin to match !! we’re avid psychology lovers,, and i also want a whole plethora of piercings (none of which are inappropriate i promise that sounds painful no thank u) but i can go into that later lmAO
munchkin: top 10 songs rn!
OOOO HELLA HELLA they’re in no particular order bc i’m so indecisive abt my favorite songs,,,
that russian song
i will follow you into the dark - death cab for cutie
boats & birds - gregory and the hawk
the bird and the worm - the used
you n’ i - rainlord.
i want you to want me - chase holfelder
every breath you take - chase holfelder (i live for his minor key versions of things don’t judge me)
murder - boyinaband (TW FOR THIS ONE IT’S SUPER MORBID I JUST REALLY LIKE IT HHH,,,)
prom queen - beach bunny
notice me - alli simpson
as you can see, my music taste is all over the got damn place but it’s alrighT LMAO
ragdoll: what’s something you wish you could like or get into, but you just can’t?
eee definitely anime and manga!! i’ve always been very intrigued by a lot of the plots and stuff, but i can never sit down and get really invested in it. and it makes me kinda sad, bc i’d like to add more sources to this blog,,!!
maine coone: do you have any strange/odd/obscure interests? (what are they?)
I DOOOOOO i’m both autistic and the adhd king (diagnosed when i was 5 for both of em) so i have plenty of fixations to talk about. some of the bigger interests of mine include finn wolfhard (but that’s not really obscure, lots of ppl love him), stranger things (also not obscure), and kin stuff in general (also not obscure)! BUT to get obscure, we have to dive deep!! i love psychology, i love poetry (and i mean like. really obscure strange free-verse poetry like i write that kinda stuff), and i’m particularly obsessed with wicca/witchcraft to the point where i’ve even become a baby witch!! i feel very connected to everything i’ve been doing with that, and i even got over a crush and rejection duo by making myself a sigil that i kept in my phone case for months! it’s,,, so much funnnn!!! divination is my favorite part honestly,,
anyway!! i hope this answered all of your questions, blaire, and i’m really excited to get more asks for these games!! this was seriously a lot of fun!!!! i love getting to know my followers and i love when my followers wanna get to know me !
Tumblr media
thanks again for asking!!

Sorry not sorry
First of all, and I don’t know where to start so this will be less of a reaction and more just rambling, and literally no one asked for this but I’m writing it anyways.
Ateez DO NOT DISAPPOINT!!!! Literally every song on this album is a whole bop. I’ve been listening to it on repeat since it was released and even after the first initial,  “I-love-every-song-because-I’ve-been-looking-forward-to-this-for-so-long” in love feelings had settled, I genuinely love every song. JUST OMG I CAN’T STRESS THIS ENOUGH BUT THIS GROUP IS CELEBRATING THEIR. FIRST. YEAR NOW IN OCTOBER!!!!! The production value is so high it’s insane!! and this goes back to the previous three mini albums, like maybe it’s just me but I can literally put every song back to back and listen through their entire discography without feeling just an “eeh, maybe I should skip this one” and that’s crazy.
So, a bit more about the individual songs,
1, End of The Beginning: OMG this will resonate within you, wherever you live on this planet and don’t try to convince me of anything else. Couldn’t have started out better, got chills the first time I heard it. From the chanting to the way it sounds like they’re ready to go to war, to the transition into wonderland.
2, WONDERLAND: This is the title track if I’ve ever heard one, strong beginning, I’m hella biased but I’m really happy that Joong is the one who sets the bar for the whole song. Not even kidding, I UNIRONICALLY DAB THROUGHOUT THIS ENTIRE SONG. it’s just one of those songs that you can’t listen to without having the need to move whether you just wiggle your shoulders a little or walk to the beat of the song or move your entire body. Yunho and Seonghwa are really shining through with both strong vocals and overall presence through the entire song.
3, Dazzling Light: OK OK OK, my favorite on the album. The drum beat, their voices, the lyrics, the way that Joong and Mings is rapping after around 2:20 to 2:40 and then the way the song just drops afterwards, and Jonho’s long fucking “Oh, tell me who you, who am I” and I’m just gone, I’m acsending into the heavens, just… ah, there’s something about this song that just makes me want to walk down barefoot on a beach with the wind howling in my ears
4, MIST: Not gonna lie and (god, I’m gonna get so much hate for this, but it’s only MY opinion, ok) the beginning, instrumentally low-key resembled Jimin’s (BTS, obv) ‘Serendipity’. I think that they use the same kind of melancholy background noises (I don’t know anything about music or music production but you know what I mean right? The light, drip-drop-y kinda sound. Whatever, overall, the song is a slow bop. Vocal line is just AMAZING. The harmonization, the way their voices blend, and let me just tell you; This is Wooyoung’s song, boi did such a good job and I’m so happy he got the recognition he deserves (next up is Yeosang, am I right?? *sad yeehaw*) Joong made me cry, like just seriously listen to his rapping with lyrics and try not to feel emotion because it’s god damn impossible. This is the song I’m gonna be listening to at 2am when I can’t sleep.
5, Precious (Overture) Bruuuuuh, freaking chills. The beat, the way the song seems to change like every 15th second, their voices, Mings rapping, the fucking drop with the windpipes? The “My precious, precious” the slight but noticeable change in the lyrics to ‘treasure’ the deep humming at the end. Phenomenal.
6, WIN: The way this song goes from a sort of tropical to a heavy bass drop with the biggest “fuck you” is a whole mood.  I dunno, has a kinda pirate-y vibe. The way the beat keeps on changing really gives it a funny, fresh feeling and the “We don’t know what’s next but we know who’s next” is just the line of the century. A nice bop that I totally like, but it’s not my favorite on the album.
7, If Without You: Such a sweet song, honestly. I just sway to the beat to it. A song to sing along with and I really think that they had a lot of fun making it since there is a lot of background harmonization and added sounds here and there, especially in the end with all the hilarious ‘whoas’, ‘aahs’ and ‘ooohs’ A funky song with nice vocals.
8, THANK U: BOI I CRIED!! D: Honestly Mingi is shining through so much with this song and it just felt so good to hear that because even though Joong is my bias, he has gotten a lot of lines in previous songs and I’m just happy to see that the line distribution between the two of them has evened out a bit better. The way it sorta turns into a sentimental rock ballad as soon as the chorus hits though? My 2009 emo heart is singing. I think it sorta has ‘Promise’ (Ep 2. Zero To One) sorta like “you and I” vibes and I’m here for it, I really like that, a powerful, soft bop, very nice.
9, Sunrise: This is the most uplifting song of the century, but just the fact that’s about their trainee days and that Joong was crying when he wrote it makes me all emotional :’( Everything is on point, the rapping, the vocal line, the instrumentals, the way that the pre-chorus has this sorta “through-a-phone-call” add-on that makes it seem like the members has called you and just wants you to keep pushing forward. There is this constant, boom-clap-boom-clap beat throughout the whole song that just makes me sure that it’s gonna be amazing live with thousands upon thousands of Atiny’s clapping their hands. Amazing rapping, amazing vocals. The bridge is just fantastic. A beautiful song, A+. Outstanding job with the lyrics, Joong.
10, WITH U: A Ballad for Atiny, I’m not crying, you are. Has this sort of crinkling add on in the background that reminds me of rain. The piano instrumentals and the boom-clap-boom-clap that is a familiar friend by now makes their appearance. The line distribution is sorta good, the way that San breathes in before starting off, what I think is, the pre-chorus is just wonderful and then the way that Yeosang ties the knot at the end of the song is just A+. I honestly love this song, it’s just one of those ones you listen to when you feel kinda down and you need a little something to cheer you on.
11, Beginning of The End: OMG, first off, the jungle atmosphere with noises of fire crackling and the music just so flawlessly rolling in like waves is amazing. It’s unexpected, with instruments I never expected (like what is that sound at around 0:34, an electric guitar?) The “open your eyes” It really feels like The End of an Era (™) and wow what a song to finish of the adventure on. Feels like a track from an epic movie, the end credits are rolling and the ship sails off in the distance. Perfect.
All and all, I think that the boys did a wonderful job with this album and I will continue listening to it until my ears falls off. Please share if you have any different thoughts than I had, much love ♥

the only mcr songs i’ve listed to r black parade and na na na na na but u make me wanna listen to them lol do u have any suggestions? what r ur favorite songs of theirs?
Oh boy. Alright. Ok. Everybody sit down, we’re about to have a masterclass in everything MCR.
The thing about My Chemical Romance is they’re a concept album band, which means each of their albums tell a story as a whole. For that reason, I can’t just recommend my personal favourite songs because they’re all part of a big whole. I’ll do my best to break them down in order of personal preference.
TL;DNR: For those of you who don’t have all day to scroll through full album analyses:
My Faves:
(Absolute all time faves are in bold; *** indicate I love these songs too much for my own good and I must be stopped.)
The Black Parade:
***Teenagers***

Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge:
***Helena***
***I’m Not Ok (I Promise)***

SING
Bulletproof Heart
The Only Hope For Me Is You
Party Poison
Vampire Money
Conventional Weapons:
***Tomorrow’s Money***
Boy Division
AMBULANCE
Kiss the Ring
Make Room!!!
Miscellaneous:
***Desolation Row***
Fake Your Death
Common People (BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Pulp cover)
***Hazy Shade of Winter***
Happy Together*
*these last two are just Gerard Way covers, but considering they’re featuring Ray Toro, that’s half the band right there…
The Black Parade
Concept: A man known as The Patient dies and accounts his life and death, dealing with his struggles with war and disease, and his fears about where he’s going to go in the afterlife.
Track Listing:
The end.
Dead!
This is How I Disappear
Sharpest Lives
Welcome to the Black Parade
I Don’t Love You
House of Wolves
Cancer
Mama
Sleep
Teenagers
Disenchanted
Famous Last Words
Blood
The whole album is honestly so good. It’s worth a listen from start to finish at least once. I’ve got absolutely no bad things to say about the songs that aren’t my faves, as they’re equally as explosive as everything else. That said…
Personal Faves:
Mama
Teenagers
Cancer
Famous Last Words
Welcome to the Black Parade
Dead!
Disenchanted
If you want the stuff that’ll psych you up/empower you, go for Welcome to the Black Parade, Teenagers, Famous Last Words, Mama, and Dead. If you want some real sad shit, go for Cancer, Disenchanted, and I Don’t Love You. I have yet to find out how to not weep all the way through WttBP, Famous Last Words, or Cancer, so you have been warned.
Dip your Toe in the Water With…
Welcome to the Black Parade
Teenagers
Famous Last Words
Things to Keep in Mind
Mama’s got an extra special guest appearance by one Liza Minnelli, and oh man, is it absolutely worth checking out. Next to Welcome to the Black Parade, this one might just be the most theatrical song in the entire album??? Bold statement, but I like to call it the Bohemian Rhapsody of MCR. It’s SO. GOOD.
Blood is the hidden track at the end of the album. There’s about 2 minutes of silence in the original album before it starts. If you want the version without the false start, nab the version from The Black Parade is Dead live album.
If you’re madly in love with this album, you can find their Black Parade concert live in Mexico, The Black Parade is Dead for free on their youtube channel. Throw it up on your tv screen and it’s like you’re there in person.
B-Sides
Kill All Your Friends
Heaven Help Us
My Way Home is Through You
All the Black Parade B-sides are great, but Kill All Your Friends is the real standout (and has the biggest connection to Umbrella Academy, if that excites you reference-wise).
Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge
Concept: This is a bit of a split narrative, partially a loving tribute following Gerard and Mikey Way’s grandmother’s passing, and partially a revenge plot. The full plot Gee had in mind took a bit of a backseat after they shifted focus on the grief side of things, but the full original concept is worth the price of admission either way. The revenge plot follows a man who makes a deal with the devil to reunite with his lost lover, if he can collect 1,000 evil souls. He sets out on his murder quest and finally reunites with the woman he loves, only to find she never loved him. He vows to take her down with him, but discovers he’s the 1,000th soul.
Track Listing:
Helena
Give ‘Em Hell, Kid
To the End
You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison
I’m Not Okay (I Promise)
The Ghost of You
The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You
Interlude
Thank You for the Venom
Hang 'Em High
It’s Not a Fashion Statement, It’s a Deathwish
Cemetery Drive
I Never Told You What I Do for a Living
This one is loud and dark, and fast as fuck. I use it almost exclusively as workout music because it will make you want to punch everything in the face. You wanna feel like you could take down all your enemies at once? Listen to this album. This one’s a lot easier to break down in terms of listening to songs here and there instead of all at once.
Personal Faves:
Cemetery Drive
You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison
Thank You For the Venom
I’m Not Ok (I Promise)
Helena
Ghost of You
Some Underrated Gems:
The Jetset Life is Gonna Kill You
To the End
Hang Em High
I Never Told You What I Did for a Living
Dip Your Toe in the Water With…
Helena
I’m Not Ok (I Promise)
Ghost of You
Things to Keep in Mind
Helena is essentially what got the band off the ground. The music video is really something and really set the tone for what early 2000s emo culture would become. If I didn’t love The Black Parade as much as I did, I’d recommend starting with Helena above everything else.
The Ghost of You music video is also a masterpiece. Gerard went to his director and asked for Saving Private Ryan, and that’s what he got! This video also happened to come out around the same time Green Day’s Wake Me Up When September Ends video came out and Gee was worried the anti-war rethorics in both would be too similar, but Billie Joe Armstrong sat him down and gave him a pep talk about how even though their concepts are similar, they’re always going to be coming at it in different ways.
If you want to get a really solid insight into where the band came from, see the boys goofing off, and see how Gerard’s struggles with mental health and addiction drives so much of what he does, check out Life on the Murder Scene, also free on youtube. It also gives a brief sneaky peek about early days concepts for the Umbrella Academy comics!
Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys
Concept: In a post-apocalyptic California in 2019(!!!), four rebels who call themselves the Killjoys (Party Poison, Fun Ghoul, Kobra Kid, and Jet-Star) set out to recover a young girl from the evil corporation, BL/ind. Their progress is narrated by Dr. Death Defy, a radio dj who maintains public morale in an otherwise gloomy new world where electricity is a rare commodity and people worship at the hands of Destroya, a giant dormant robot expected to deliver everyone from evil.
Track Listing:
Look Alive, Sunshine
Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)
Bulletproof Heart
SING
Planetary (GO!)
The Only Hope For Me Is You
Jet-Star And The Kobra Kid/Traffic Report
Party Poison
Save Yourself, I’ll Hold Them Back
S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W
Summertime
DESTROYA
The Kids From Yesterday
Goodnite, Dr. Death
Vampire Money
This album is radically different than the others in that it’s much mellower. The songs are interspersed with narrative interludes by Dr. Death Defy to better explain the storyline. Danger Days came after one scrapped compilation album (which I’ll get to soon enough…) At this point, Gee’s comic career had started to take off with Umbrella Academy, and things had started to naturally wind down with the band. Gee’s mindspace was clearly in comic-mode, and he upcycled a comic book idea he had kicking around with a comic writer friend of his, Shaun Simon for the new album. After the band’s breakup, Gerard took whatever concepts they couldn’t realize through the lyrics and music videos back to Shaun Simon to make a Killjoys comic. Much of the concept backstory explained above is pulled from this.
Personal Faves:
Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)
Bulletproof Heart
SING
Planetary [GO!]
The Only Hope For Me Is You
Party Poison
Vampire Money
This is the album where I tend to get bored halfway through and switch over to The Black Parade (whoops…) But it is 100% worth listening to it from start to finish, again, at least once, if anything, because Destroya and Vampire Money are something else… Bulletproof Heart, SING, and The Only Hope for Me Is You are, at least in my opinion, the standouts of the more mellow songs. S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W, Summertime, and The Kids From Yesterday are also super mellow if you’re into the vibe of the previous three and want more of that.
Planetary Go! is… possibly one of my favourite MCR songs of all time??? (Considering how much I love The Black Parade, that’s a pretty bold statement). It’s the only dance track they ever made, and is it ever a Bop. This is one of my go-to’s when I just need to take a break from whatever’s stressing me out and have a silly little dance party.
Dip Your Toe in the Water With:
Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)
SING
Planetary [Go!]
The Only Hope for me is You
Bulletproof Heart
Things to Keep In Mind:
Danger Days is an incredibly visual album! You really need the music videos to get the whole story. Na Na Na and SING tell the whole story pretty succinctly.
If you’re really feeling that cliffhanger from the end of the SING music video, check out the Killjoys comics. It’s a single volume under the same name as the album, following The Girl a few years after the music videos’ timeline.
S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W was inspired by Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds by the Beatles, which really speaks to the overall vibe of the song.
Something I literally just discovered now, looking up the album, there’s an EP of basically fight scene tracks off a special edition of Danger Days called The Mad Gear and Missile Kid. I’ve not listened to them yet, but from the looks of things, it’s got a pure punk rock vibe and they’re apparently what the band imagined the killjoys listened to on the road.
Fun trivia that I personally get a kick out of: Vampire Money was written out of spite after Gerard refused to contribute a song to the New Moon soundtrack for Twilight (Stephenie Meyer was a huge MCR fan and approached them numerous times to get involved in the films).
Conventional Weapons
Here it is! The scrapped compilation album! These songs were written pre-Danger Days and were presented at a concert in Japan, at which point, Gerard realized it wasn’t the sound they were after and it was promptly nixed. It’s a real shame, because there are some jams up in here, but at least they (or their record label, I can’t remember which at this point) eventually did decide to release the full “album” in 5 two-single EPs at a time.
Number One:
Boy Division
Tomorrow’s Money
Number Two:
AMBULANCE
Gun.
Number Three:
The World is Ugly
The Light Behind Your Eyes
Number Four:
Kiss the Ring
Make Room!!!
Number Five:
Surrender the Night
Burn Bright
Personal Faves:
Tomorrow’s Money
Boy Division
AMBULANCE
Kiss the Ring
Make Room!!!
Things to Keep in Mind:
I often like to give a shout out to AMBULANCE and Kiss the Ring for having opening chords that sound exactly like they’ve come straight off a Queen and Green Day album respectively.
See Tomorrow’s Money for the spectacular way they rhyme “vampire/empire/brush fire/tap wire” all in one verse.
See also Gun. for the far sillier way they rhyme “gun/sun/fun/run”.
You can tell with some of these songs that there was the stirrings of Danger Days in here. Make Room!!! is the most obvious, with the same mantra of “everybody wants to change the world” from Na Na Na making an appearance toward the end.
I think in some iteration between Conventional Weapons and Danger Days, there were some songs that did make it to the Danger Days album that were called something else. Party Poison, for example, had originally been Death Before Disco.
Covers
My Chemical Romance, in one form or another, have done some spectacular covers over the years. I’m including the Umbrella Academy covers Gerard did with Ray because that’s basically half the band right there.
Desolation Row (Watchmen soundtrack)
Hazy Shade of Winter (Umbrella Academy)
Happy Together (Umbrella Academy)
Common People (BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge)
Under Pressure (ft. The Used)
Those are the ones I’m aware of. If there are more good-quality covers I’m missing, please, send them my way– I would love that!
I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
Ok, look, I’m gonna upset some people by having this on the bottom of my list. I’m sorry, I feel bad about it, but the fact of the matter is, I’m only now getting into their earliest stuff. Bullets is a bit of an acquired taste because it’s incredibly raw both sound-wise and in terms of content. They recorded it before they had the resources to really put out a crisp sounding album, and they were still learning about how to construct songs, but there’s still a lot of beauty in that that I know plenty people appreciate far more than I do. MCR wouldn’t have gained an underground following without this album, after all!
I have exactly zero stakes in this album, so I’m sure someone else out there has a better grasp of this one than I do.
Concept: I know very little about what’s going on in this album, aside from the fact that Gerard was driven to create the band after being in New York, watching the Twin Towers fall during 9/11. A bunch of his more end of the world storylines from many of his works (including Umbrella Academy) are inspired by 9/11. This is a prevalent thread throughout the album, though I’m not familiar with the how beyond Skylines and Turnstiles.
Track Listing:
Romance
Honey, This Mirror Isn’t Big Enough for the Two of Us
Vampires Will Never Hurt You
Drowning Lessons
Our Lady of Sorrows
Headfirst for Halos
Skylines and Turnstiles
Early Sunsets Over Monroeville
This Is the Best Day Ever
Cubicles
Demolition Lovers
Personal Faves:
Headfirst for Halos
Honey, This Mirror isn’t Big Enough for the Two of Us
Vampires Will Never Hurt You
Our Lady of Sorrows
I’m playing fast and loose with my faves here. I’ve only heard these songs a handful of times, but they’re the ones I’m inclined to at least listen to for the guitar work, which at times, is quite fantastic. I will say though, from what I’ve seen of the lyrics, there’s some stellar stuff in here I hope to properly get into some time soon.
All the guys are still plugging away and releasing music either in their own bands (most recently, Frank Iero andthe Patience and Mikey Way’s band, Electric Century) or solo (in the case of Gerard Way and Ray Toro). I wish I was more well-versed in their goings-ons, but I’ve not been following their musical careers beyond Gerard’s (come back and talk to me if you want to get into his Hesitant Alien solo album and his more recent releases).
And that is your crash course in all things MCR.

I’M GONNA GET ALL CHEESY AND SHIT BECAUSE TODAY THIS BABY’S TURNING 1 YEAR OLD.
It’s a wonderful, wonderful game. It’s amazing in every way possible. SHUT UP I’M FOCUSING ON THE POSITIVE HERE. It’s simply beautiful and breathtaking in so many ways. I couldn’t love it MORE.
Can’t say I’ve been waiting for it for ten full years but I’ve known it for that long. It had everything I wanted in a Final Fantasy game BEING COMBINED IN ONE and by no one less than Nomura himself. And in my crazy Kingdom Hearts phase, this couldn’t please me more.
I got sad a few years later when there was less and less news about it and the hope of it ever being released seemed to dim with each year that passed. That is, until that sweet sweet E3 came and made everything oh so much better. Also, that PS3 was no use anymore and I had to buy a PS4.
EVERYONE ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN. Oh man the game had so much positivity going on OH MAN DID IT LOOK FUCKING GOOD. With every trailer, every news we got F U CK, it was making me obsessed. Nomura may not be there anymore BUT WHO GIVES A FUCK BC TABATA WAS GIVING US WHAT HE NEVER DID IN 7 YEARS: CONTENT AND PROOF OF DEVELOPMENT.
I only had a few other games that made me THIS excited for its release but honestly only this one made me hyped enough to actually get involved with the fanbase and make friends out of this. And the fandom is really fucking amazing so this shit only got me hyper and hyper.
After some crying-over-a-fucking-video-game-trailer and more screaming, THE GAME WAS RELEASED AND Oh god—Tabata what did you do?? Everyone’s dead again. Stop making people cry, dammit.
I never ever cried so hard over anything fictional before NOT EVEN CRISIS CORE BY THE SAME SADIST DUDE. Ever. This game just fucking wrecked me in every way possible. After I finished the game I lay in bed a full day just exhausted from crying. I WISH I WAS JOKING, STOP JUDGING ME.
Not gonna lie, I was pretty sad after I finished the game and I didn’t get near the story for a while. BUT THE GODDAMN EVERYTHING ELSE I COULDN’T GET AWAY FROM. It’s such a good game and holy shit it’s fun as fuck.
The gameplay specifically makes me wet pleases my soul because it’s better than anything else in the world for me. The reason that this game brought so much attention to me as a kid was my undying crush for noctis because I was definitely not in an emo phase what u talking about? look at him breaking necks with his thighs UNF the gameplay that would be closer to Kingdom Hearts and whAT? Did you mean my favorite type of gameplay ever?? OMG YES I HATE TURN BASED GAMES YET MY HYPOCRITICAL ASS LOVES FF!
I spent over 50 hours on the Duscae demo just because it felt so good to play it so it’s no wonder really that I have 600+ hours of gameplay in this bitch and it’s not much compared to some of you dear god how did u get so many hours????
THE SOUNDTRACK. FUCK ME IN THE ASS.
Dear Yoko... How can you make your music crawl its way into the deepest parts of my heart? Thank you btw I’m a mess now. It’s her best work imo. Even managing to make a few tracks surpass the ones I most loved from Kō Otani and THAT’S a huge deal for me. Soundtracks always had a warm place in my heart and this whole album blew my mind. I was expecting her to be amazing but the sheer amount of EPIC was the full display of that side of her that gave me goosebumps no matter how many time I listened to the damn tracks.
The fucking art design... Look at the godDAMN SUMMONS. HAS LEVIATHAN EVER LOOKED SO AWESOME? It’s just... Everything looks so beautiful and I have spent many many hours just walking around with some FF songs playing in the background just to appreciate the surroundings and the amazing world they built. IT’S SO FILLED WITH COLOR AND DETAIL.
THEIR HAIR GETS WET AND YOU CAN GET SOME GEL SO IT DOESN’T GET RUINED. TIS A GOTY.
I never loved the characters, the gameplay, the soundtrack, the story, the developers, the GAME more than this. It’s been one year since I had it in my hands and there has barely been one week that I haven’t stopped everything to take some time to play it. It’s a huge stress relief and I really love everything about it.
I’m so glad this game got released and the dev team deserves nothing but praise. Sure, there’s flaws and all but holy shit this thing managed to get released and it was a good game. In the end, this game gave me so many good memories that in the future it will bring me as much joy as the games I was found of as a kid.

yellin’ at songs: june, week one
the songs that debuted on the 6.3.2017 and 6.2.2007 editions of the billboard hot 100 discussed herein with an appropriate enthusiasm
6.2.2007
33) "Do You Know? (The Ping Pong Song)/Dimelo," Enrique Iglesias
Maybe my earbuds just suck, but the ping-pong ball was disappointingly low in the mix. I needed that ping-pong ball to be the only instrumentation here. Like, the standard Enrique Iglesias drama, but instead of All The Producing, it's just a cascade of ping-pong balls, bouncing arrythmically as our boy has emotions. Like, if ypu're gonna be a bad song, don't play it safe with the novelty noises. Own that ping-pong shit. Throw in some ping-pong metaphors, give shout-outs to the best ping-pong players in the world. You can't just call your song "The Ping-Pong Song" and expect to get away with it, you gotta earn that shit.
91) "Bubbly," Colbie Callait
Comfort food is an important part of a balanced diet. You want to be healthy all the time, but part of being healthy, for me at least, involves keeping a thing of Ben & Jerry's in my freezer. I KNOW I'm gonna need that ice cream at some point, y'know? This weekend, when my computer stopped accessing the Internet, I said nuts to the world, I put some Mario streams on my phone, and when I got bored of those, my DVD player figured out a way to play Beauty & the Beast on a loop without me telling it to, so I could just turn my TV on. Critical thought is important, especially as we slide further into an authoritarian society, but sometimes, you gotta say 'fuck it' and accept a nice thing as a nice thing. "Bubbly" is that nice thing. It's barely anything, but it's nice what it barely is.
93) "I Need You," Tim McGraw & Faith Hill
This is "Whiskey Lullaby" for beginners (yes bob that is a sad country duet also) yes thank you I’m a good at critic-sizing, but can we take a moment to appreciate that TIm McGraw & Faith Hill have duets that charted in 1997, 2007, and 2017? Think of all the loves we've lost. Will Arnett and Amy Poehler. Rhea Pearlman and Danny DeVito. Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. And all throughout, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill remain a constant. Like, it hurt when Rhea and Danny broke up because they were perfect, but if I'm being honest, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill is the couple I need to stay together forever. I honestly don't know if I could ever let myself fall in love if I knew Tim McGraw and Faith Hill ever fell out of love. I need them to make an "I Need You" every year for the rest of my life. I don't need to hear it? But I need them to make it.
96) "The Great Escape," Boys Like Girls
In 2007 we let pop bands with heteronomrative names make hit songs. Anyway, the song, it's bad. It's like a Yellowcard song by people whose sense of music history only goes as far back as Yellowcard. Honestly, this might be the worst song of 2007. There's been a lot of rap tracks trying to start dance crazes, by dancing is an inextricable part of hip-hop, the genre is nothing without the occasional "Chicken Noodle Soup," y'know? And KaraDioGuardi is trash, but she has noble aspirations: she is trying to infuse pop starlets with attitude, and while she fails horribly, there's at least noble aspirations. This song stands for nothing. It's riding the coattails of the mid-aughts emo wave, a trend we were making fun of AS IT WAS HAPPENING, nothing about it is original or spun in an interesting way or even delivered convincingly, it's just a shitty song with a chorus that would be rousing if any of these dudes had something like charisma behind which a crowd might rally, it's, it's nothing! It's less of a thing than Joe, and Joe was just a dude named Joe! I hate this song and I hate that I'm going to make myself listen to another Boys Like Girls song.
97) "Bleed it Out," Linkin Park 99) "Given Up," Linkin Park
These were almost good songs! Linkin Park is much better at being a rock band than they are emotional balladeers, and they have something going with both of these songs, like those hand-claps really make you feel like Linkin Park is about to hit you with some hot rock sing-a-long action, and then... dude just kinda screams about how much pain he feels? OK, that's not fair to "Bleed it Out," "Bleed it Out" is legit hot, that's one of the rare times that the rapper in Linkin Park is absolutely on his game. He's not a great rapper, but dude knows how to blend in with a great song. And Screams McGee (his name is Chester Bennington, you know I know who he is) can be a compelling vocalist! He does a few subtle things in "Given Up" that make him sound legitimately damaged and frustrated before the song devolves into him screaming "put me out of my misery!" Maybe I just needed this to be good just so I wasn't too bummed out after enduring "The Great Escape," but y'know what, Linkin Park? Not that shitty. Still pretty shitty, but there's enough here that I like that I’m not gonna call it an utter angstfest.
should i still publish top 20s if there are no changes. is there any instructive value to the top 20 even if things did change. 20) "Movin' On," by Elliott Yamin (3.17.2007) 19) "U + Ur Hand," by P!nk (1.13.2007) 18) "Doe Boy Fresh," by Three 6 Mafia ft./Chamillionaire (1.20.2007) 17) "Get Me Bodied," by Beyonce (5.26.2007) 16) "I Don't Wanna Stop," by Ozzy Osbourne (5.26.2007) 15) "Stolen," by Dashboard Confessional (4.21.2007) 14) "Beautiful Liar," by Beyonce & Shakira (3.31.2007) 13) "Cupid's Chokehold," by Gym Class Heroes ft./Patrick Stump (1.13.2007) 12) "The River," by Good Charlotte ft./M. 6.3.2017
62) "Rollin," by Calvin Harris ft./Future & Khalid
I appreciate the work Calvin Harris has done this spring to get our most morose pop artists to get funky. I don't really remember Khalid, but I do remember not feeling "Location," and he was much better with a song that felt like something, and I don't think I can name a Future verse delivered with higher energy than this. (There's so many, though. I might well be forgetting like seven Future songs.) I'm not here to call it great, it might end up fading from memory completely like "Heatstroke" did (I liked it, right? It's #20 before I dip into the rest of the debuts, but I recall liking it), but, y'know, funky. Calvin Harris is like the only pop megastar insisting that we boogie, and however disposable his music ends up being, his mission is one I can get behind.
80) "Bad Liar," by Selena Gomez
"This is a pretty dope baseline!" Bob thought on his way to Wikipedia, where he was informed this is a Julia Michaels joint sampling Talking Heads. This is great. Like, David Byrne had to think this was good in order for it to be made, I am not quite sure what I come to this space to do, but I know it's not to disagree with David Byrne.
92) "Whatever it Takes," by Imagine Dragons
this is the same song as "thunder" was the same song as "believer." like they made three songs about how awesome it is to be famous, except this song is about how imagine dragons will be imagining dragons so hard to maintain the level of fame which they have attained, because: being famous: is good. no entity has wasted more of my time this year than imagine dragons. and i had to listen to an entire drake album! i mean this! how many more of these songs do i have to listen to? how many of these songs do they have LEFT?
93) "Felices Los 4," by Maluma
If the rousing success of "Despacito" means we're getting more Latin pop on the charts, I am absolutely down. And if a new Latin pop explosion means we get more songs about polyamory, as the basic English translation I have found leads me to believe this is, I am SO DOWN. This is a chipper and fun song about saying "The more the merrier!" when your girl finds a new boy. It's the epitome of a chilled-out groove. "It doesn't matter what they'll say, we like it like this." DAMN SKIPPY. Maluma will not be kink-shamed. I like what I'm 90% sure this song is. Give me more songs about people on different areas on the ever-expanding spectrum of human sexuality. I expect an asexuality anthem by the time we're through, 2017.
95) "No Promises," by Cheat Codes ft./Demi Lovato
Who are Cheat Codes? Like, legit, if I'm gonna complain about the slop of dudes churned out by Nashville, I should also call out the endless parade of dudes at soundboards constructing their tool-assisted pop songs. Does Cheat Codes have any artistic identity? Am I supposed to have left this song having learned something new about the world, or at least heard familiar noises used in a new and fun way? Like, "Bad Liar" wasn't an earth-shatteringly epic statement of purpose, but it used the "Psycho Killer" bassline in modern setting, and that made me want to see who made it. I can't tell you who Cheat Codes are from their music. I don't get the feeling they got into music as an avenue of self-expression, I think the goal is to make formless, unidentifiable dance noises, and that's intensely disappointing. (Demi Lovato's here, too. It's not her fault this song is bad. She tries her darndest.) I can't say what Cheat Codes bring to the table to justify listening to Cheat Codes instead of anything else that's ever existed.
98) "Ghost in This House," as performed by Lauren Duski
So next week is a big week for American Idol, five Idol songs on the chart, and I'm sure the The Voice finale is gonna put more than one song on the chart, so that’ll be a fun comparison. Big couple weeks coming up for reality singing competitions! This is a nice performance of a country song with which I'm unfamiliar, being sung by an attractive blonde with something like a unique voice. It's nothing I'd ever vote for, but I completely get how it ended up in my list of things to do today. Finally: a white country singer is going to win a reality singing competition. Been, what, three months since the last time? TOO LONG.
100) "Me Enamore," by Shakira
It would have been so easy for this to feel like seven dudes in suits screaming FUCK LATIN POP'S BACK WE HAVE FIVE MINUTES TO WRITE A TRACK FOR SHAKIRA, but man, Shakira's just too reliable a pop music entity to let it go down like that. It's basic, simple stuff, "me en-na-na-more" is nowhere near the thundering statement of purpose that is "des... pa... ci-to," but y'all need something basic done right, you call in a pro, and Shakira's a consummate professional. It's hard to tell if I'm reacting to the actual performance or to the band name, but as far as I can sort out, Shakira brings a joy and personality to a song that might've been listless in less capable hands.
Hey! New blood in this Top 20! 20) "You Look Good," by Lady Antebellum (4.22) 19) "The Heart Part 4," by Kendrick Lamar (4.15) 18) "Selfish," by Future ft./Rihanna (3.18) 17) "Slide," by Calvin Harris ft./Frank Ocean & Migos (3.18) 16) "Felices los 4," by Maluma (6.3) 15) "Now & Later," by Sage the Gemini (2.25) 14) "Bad Liar," by Selena Gomez (6.3) 13) "DNA." by Kendrick Lamar (5.6) 12) "It Ain't Me," by Kygo x Selena Gomez (3.4) 11) "Craving You," by Thomas Rhett ft./Maren Morris (4.22) 10) "That's What I Like," by Bruno Mars (3.4) 9) "Chanel," by Frank Ocean ft./A$AP Rocky (4.1) 8) "Either Way," by Chris Stapleton (5.27) 7) "Run Up," by Major Lazer ft./PARTYNEXTDOOR & Nicki Minaj (2.18) 6) "Green Light," by Lorde (3.18) 5) "ELEMENT." by Kendrick Lamar (5.6) 4) "Despacito," by Luis Fonsi ft./Daddy Yankee (2.4) 3) "Issues," by Julia Michaels (2.11) 2) "iSpy," by KYLE ft./Lil Yachty (1.14) 1) "Hard Times," by Paramore (5.13) I underestimated you, 2017!
