CHAPTER 41 | one step forward and three steps back (written)

“let‘s go on a date,“ he had said.

“what?“ y/n.

“we can post pics on twitter and if we‘re lucky someone from school will see us together,“ he had said. it had made sense.

“ugh, fine,“ a sigh, “but don‘t think I‘ll enjoy it.“

“I won‘t either.“

liars. both of them.

it felt like her heart had grown a beak and a pair of wings. it picked at the lock and tried to squeeze through the cage of ribs as she sat there in the library. her eyes darted around nervously, not focusing on the homework that was spread out on the desk. she was convinced that her heart was beating into a megaphone, the amplified sounds reaching every student's ears and telling them the truth. the truth of how she came to sit there for two hours, anxiously doing anything but her homework and waiting for her fake boyfriend to finish practice to take her to an equally fake date. it had been just yesterday that they had shown up at school with their hands intertwined. the stares they had elicited had continued well on to the next day. strangers she didn‘t know had come up to her, trying to pry the full story out of her but like a knight on a white horse jay showed up every time without fail and swept her away.

it was quite simple really. all she had to do was go on this date with him, not act like she hated him when there werr people around– or more accurately: pretend that she wasn‘t pretending, seeing that he had made her lose her grip and fall down to the pits of fiery desire – and act like she was struck by cupid himself (again: she didn‘t need to take on a career of an actress for this).

she was drumming her fingers on the table and tapping her feet. she kept on glancing at her phone, the last digit changing with every passing minute but it felt like time had been slowed down, a minute in the real world ten in this altered one. if the fakeness of this date scratched even just the surface of the halfway mark of lia‘s behavior then she should have no reason to be nervous. yet she couldn‘t help the stampede taking place inside her heart.

it was thirty seconds later. she sighed. she had to calm down and seem chill when he texted her. she didn‘t want to risk seeming like she was actually excited about this. which she wasn‘t. of course. after fifteen seconds she checked the time again and still no text. the clock struck six. should she pack her things or wait? a minute later still nothing. what if he stood her up? what if this was just some cruel joke to embarrass her, to see if she would actually be willing to go on this date with him. she, the kid everyone knew as the weird harry potter obsessed cat girl who tended to hiss at people and make a fuss if jay even as much as glanced at her. she‘d have deserve it.

the screen flashed bright. she gave a start and snatched her phone, the girl sitting at the opposite table granting her a judging stare.

I‘m finished. where are you?

this bitch, y/n thought at his audacity of leaving her on read. how long would it take him to come up here? she grabbed her things in a hurry and stuffed them into her bag. she brushed her hands over her hair to smooth it down and straightened her clothes. she headed straight for the door in hopes that she might not meet him here where there were so many people but she came to an abrupt halt as she almost collided with someone‘s chest. damn, jay was fast.

“hey,“ she tried to laugh the awkward tension away.

“hi,“ he breathed. a soft smile adorned his face. cute.

“let‘s get going.“ y/n accepted his hand. her mind went hundreds of miles per hour whenever they held hands. her palm fit in his very well oddly enough but she tensed up so much that it still managed to feel unnatural. warmth spread through every fiber of her body like gas trying to fill up a space. it left no part of her empty, rising up to her heart and warming it like a blanket on a rough winter‘s day.

trying not to smile was a real challenge. but wait! who said she couldn‘t? it would be more suspicious if she were to walk around with a frown. she let herself relax a little and the corners of her mouth automatically rose up.

he opened the door on the passenger seat of his tesla and she mumbled a surprised thank you. she quickly checked in the mirror if her embarrassment was showing on her cheeks and it did. she turned to look outside the window during the ride but she couldn‘t help her eyes wandering back to him. she‘d love to say he dressed especially nice for their date but jay wasn‘t known as a fashionista for nothing. he was wearing a white turtleneck, a grey half opened button up on top. his pants had a loose fit and were of a dark blue shade. the whole outfit was held together by a same color belt. his side profile was all sharp edges and angles. y/n dared say – or didn‘t actually – that his side view even surpassed what was to be seen from the front.

“you‘re staring,“ he remarked.

she quickly averted her eyes. “you have something on you face.“

“it‘s called handsomeness.“

she scoffed at his outrageous claim. he was right, of course, but this remark made it easier for her to shift her attention away from him again.

“you never told me where we‘re going.“

“oh, right. I thought we could go grab something to eat first and watch a movie afterwards.“

“are you asking me to netflix and chill?“

he laughed. “I see what you think of me but no. I heard that lia is going to be there so this might be a good opportunity for us.“

“wait, lia?“ y/n's throat closed up.

jay sensed her body going rigid, put his hand on her thigh and squeezed it reassuringly.

“it‘s okay. I won‘t let her hurt you again.“

his hand seemed to burn through the fabric of her pants. their eyes met for a moment and she could feel her heart skipping a beat.

impatient honking tore through the silence and jay quickly pulled away and saw that the stop light had indeed gone green. the red he had stopped at had now transferred to his cheeks. he was trying his best not to make this whole ordeal awkward but it was like his body disobeyed him in her presence. it would act on its own and his mind and heart would have to deal with the consequences later. all he wanted was to make her feel comfortable and safe.

he took her to a small but incredibly adorable bistro in town. she had expected him to have reserved a table at some fancy restaurant where a napkin was worth more than what she would get if if she sold her arm on the black market. she should’ve judged jay better.

the bistro was managed by an old lady with pastel pink hair like cotton candy and y/n decided that‘s what she wanted to look like when she got older.

“thank you, mrs. jeon.“ jay bowed his head as she placed their beverages on the table and smiled affectionately.

“it‘s been a while since I last saw you, jongseong. I almost feared you had gotten tired of coming to see this old lady. but I should have put more faith in you, after all, you used to come here almost everyday."

he looked flustered. “I could never get tired of coming here. especially since you do indeed make the bests mac n cheese in entire country.“ mrs. jeon laughed heartily.

“there is so much delicious food to choose from and yet you still order from the kids menu. It‘s been, what, seven years since you‘ve been coming here but you never seem to get tired of getting the same thing. and it‘s also the first time you showed up in company.“ her kind eyes now fixed on y/n. “who is this lovely lady you brought here? is she your girlfriend?“

y/n almost choked on her iced tea. “no, ma‘am, we‘re just– “

just what? she thought about it. they could hardly consider themselves friends but they weren‘t really dating either so what was she supposed to say?

“you guessed right.“ jay enclosed her hand in his, “we‘re dating.“

y/n looked at him confounded, in hopes of conveying the sentiment of what the fuck are you doing but he didn‘t mind her.

mrs. jeon clapped her hands together so excitedly that y/n couldn‘t bring herself to correct him. her eyes were overcast with joy and, oh, how it would break her fragile heart if they told her the truth.

“congratulations! I am so happy for you, jongseong, and a pretty one she is at that, too. I bet she is just as smart as you are. my dear, you have such an intelligent look in your eyes. I am just so glad my little jongseong finally found someone to make him happy. he used to sit here eating his mac n cheese all sad and alone. I hope you can be each other‘s joys for a long time.“

“mrs. jeon,“ jongseong whined.

“ah, I‘m sorry, my love, I must be embarrassing you. I just can‘t help being exhilarated at the thought of you having someone by your side now. you used to look like an abandoned cat whenever you came in but when I saw you walking through that door just then your eyes sparkled with life. it's the same look you had whenever you‘d talk about that girl in your class. oh,” she stopped herself, eyes widening in realization. “silly me. I am rambling again, don‘t mind me. I‘ll leave you two lovebirds alone now.“ she ruffled jay‘s hair and left.

he had turned as white as the wall next to him and had slowly redacted his hand. he seemed mortified. his blown wide pupils were shaking as he intensely stared at the ground. y/n wasn‘t sure if she understood what mrs. jeon had been talking about. the idea of jay crushing on someone felt like a low blow to her stomach even though she had no right to be jealous. she was the one who had pushed him away first. claiming to hate him had seemed easier than to love him.

jay walked through the world with lots of pride and confidence so to see him seemingly shaken by mrs. jeon revealing this crush was strange. it made her feel bad. she didn‘t want to have to see his frown.

“mrs. jeon seems quite fond of you.“ jay‘s face immediately brightened at the mention of the old lady. he exhaled a sigh of relief. I didn't matter if y/n actually didn‘t know or just pretended not to, he was grateful. a soft smile played on his lips.

“she practically raised me. I used to come here everyday after school and she‘d make me mac n cheese and no matter how much I protested she always gave me a muffin on the house too. I sometimes helped her out in the kitchen. actually, that is how I discovered my passion for cooking. shs is truly an incredible woman and has shown me nothing but kindness and respect. this is place is very special to me.“ and he had decided to bring her here.

“she seems lovely.“ y/n meant it. he nodded.

“but why did you have to tell her I was your girlfriend? I fear she might be hiding a ring in my food now.“ jay laughed.

“it was a great way to practice authenticity. I‘m sure we‘ll be having to use that line a couple of times. also, you never know who is listening. and don‘t worry! if you were to choke on the ring I‘d remember to publish all the writing wasting away on your computer.“ she tilted her head.

“what...“ she raised her eyebrow. “how do you know about my writing?“ her writing was a topic she never even discussed with her friends, too insecure they might think it was horrible. she preferred to keep it to herself and let no one else join her in her little bubble.

“you accidentally shared one of your documents with me.“

she facepalmed. “which one?“

“it was the short story about the aristocratic dog and the stray cat who run away together to france to open up a bookstore by the louvre. I was astonished by how real and raw the characters felt. the storyline had me tearing up and I don‘t even have the words to describe how much I loved your writing style. you are depriving the world of a beautiful masterpiece by keeping it hidden.“ he was being dead serious.

y/n couldn’t help the tears welling in her eyes. she had never even once thought that she was good enough and that anyone would even be interested in reading her stuff. she must have accidentally shared it with him while editing at 4 am. not only had he read the thing in its entirety but he had also liked it and had complimented her. park jongseong wasn‘t one for meaningless compliments.

she fidgeted with her fingers and didn‘t dare to meet his eyes.

“thank you,“ she whispered so quietly that not even the passing fly could have heard her. jay furrowed his eyebrows in incomprehension.

“thank you,“ she managed to get out a bit louder this time, the overwhelming emotions cracking her voice like clay. “it means a lot to me.“

he waved it off but couldn‘t help his eyes transforming into two little crescents.

“all you need to do is find a publisher and I guarantee you‘ll make it big. I can already see you in your famous author era.“

she pouted. “don‘t feed into my delusions. I doubt that anyone would be interested in reading my story. but knowing that at least one other person approves is more than enough for me!“

the two of them sat there, in a little bistro in the heart of seoul, staring at each other as if scared they might disappear at any given moment, their lips curved upwards in a never-ending smile. this might well have been the first time they‘d had a normal conversation without constantly firing insults at each other‘s heads. y/n found that spending time with jay could be fun and enjoyable and jay found himself getting addicted to making y/n smile.

y/n didn‘t find a ring hidden in her food and ate so much that her stomach felt like it was going to burst. jay hadn‘t been kidding. the mac n cheese was immaculate. they remembered to take plenty of pictures to upload later and they even had mrs. jeon take a couple of snapshots of the two of them together.

they spent about two hours eating – mrs. jeon had insisted on giving them crème brûlée on the house – and chatting away. they were left with about half an hour until the start of the movie. jay suggested going for a walk along the han river.

there was almost no one around, yet jay held out his hand. y/n accepted it without much thought and they went on to walk through the chilly autumn night which sent shivers down the girl‘s spine. an enquiring hum escaped her lips as she felt jay‘s warming hand slipping out of hers. he wordlessly took off his jacket.

“but you‘re going to freeze,“ she protested but he was already set on helping her put it on.

“I‘ll be fine. I‘m wearing multiple layers so I won‘t be cold.“ yeah, that‘s because he had prepared for this exact moment and had dressed extra warm that morning.

“thanks.“

this time the silence was less awkward than it usually was. they watched the moon reflecting on the water, how the silent waves were breaking it apart and distorting its image. they didn‘t linger for long and soon started making their way to the movie theater.

upon entry she found the ticket stand in front of which a big group of girls were waiting. she felt her heart drop. she had completely forgotten that she‘d be here. she instinctly reached for jay‘s hand. he gave her a firm but reassuring squeeze.

“don‘t worry. I won‘t leave you,“ he whispered in her ear. he nodded encouragingly. she smiled unsure but let herself be led to the ticket stand,

“oh hi, lia. long time no see. what a coincidence to meet you here.“ jay was rivaling regina george at this moment, flashing her a huge but fake smile. lia narrowed her eyes. y/n thought she looked like a snake ready to attack. her viciousness soon turned into confusion as she spotted their linked hands.

“I didn‘t know you guys were a thing.“ she said slowly.

“we were keeping it lowkey for a few weeks but we‘ve been hashtag out and proud since yesterday morning, haven‘t you heard?“

“I have more important things to attend to than listening to unnecessary gossip.“ she rolled her eyes. her girl friends snickered as if she had just said something terribly witty.

“the rumors going around are quite scandalous, I thought those were exactly your type of thing.“ he leaned in closer. “they say we were making love on sunghoon‘s pool table all night long.“ he pulled y/n closer by her waist and winked. “the rumors are true.“

the disgust evident on each of their faces was worth the small humiliation. “congratulations.“

“I am worried whether y/n and I can keep our hands to ourselves. we‘re going to be sitting in the back row after all, you know. things can get quite steamy in these kind of situations. right, baby?“

trying to hold back her laugh, all she could do was nod with as much innocent enthusiasm as she could. he turned to her and dedicated an exaggerated horny and longing stare to her.

“I could ravish you all night, my pooh bear.“

jay tucked a loose strand of pink hair behind her and came impossibly close to her face. she could hear some coughs.

“I guess this is our cue to leave.“

the clique went running. while pretending to fight the overwhelming urge to make out in public, y/n could feel lia burning holes into her back.

jay pulled away as soon as they were out of sight. he patted her head. “see, that wasn‘t half as bad.“

y/n – albeit quite involuntarily – slapped his hand away and whined.

“but did you have to put it on so thick? I‘m not quite sure she bought it anyway.“

he gasped in fake offense. “if I hadn‘t exaggerated she might have looked through as straight away so rather than complaining you should be thanking me and my genius brain. and who knows,“ a sly smirk crept onto his face, “what might‘ve happened if heeseung hadn‘t interrupted us that one time.“

y/n elbowed him quite hard at his statement. “don‘t you ever shut up?“

he blew her a kiss. “no, you.“

she groaned and they finally went to get their tickets. jay bought a large bag of popcorn to share and a ginormous soda with two straws. y/n just hoped that putting it on thick would actually help her case.

once they were comfortably settled in their respective seats, jay pretended to stretch his body as he yawned and let his arm rest on y/n‘s shoulder.“

“literally what the fuck is this 2/10 fuckboy move?“

“oh you know, just in case lia or one of her minions decide to stalk us and we don‘t look infatuated enough. and a 2/10 is great. a lot better than I expected! I appreciate your mastership, senpai.“ he started humming to some tune and took a sip from his – your – soda

it didn‘t take a genius to realize he was indeed quite enjoying himself. but he was right. lia‘s hawk eyes kept on glancing back at them and she‘d tilt her head like a dog who can't comprehend the meaning of a word he‘s never heard.

whenever jay noticed her prying stare, his grip on y/n would tighten and he‘d pull her closer. y/n thought about telling him to relax a bit but she enjoyed the feeling of warmth and comfort so she let him be.

the many late hours or revising and writing started catching up to her and whispering sweet nothings to convince her to slip into dreamland. her eyelids kept on fluttering shut and her head would fall forward, waking her up for a moment before she doze off again. as much as jay had actually been excited to watch this movie with her, he couldn‘t help but frown at the thought of y/n overworking herself to the point of exhaustion. that eye-opening conversation with heeseung had been haunting him like a poltergeist ever since the party.

he gently caressed her cheek and guided her head onto his shoulder. the smell of her shampoo infiltrated his mind and bewitched his senses. he smiled to himself.

y/n was awoken by a stirring under her head. the movie theater had already cleared out and the end credits were rolling. she lifted her head and rubbed her tired eyes. she looked over and realized with a start that she must have fallen asleep on her fake date‘s shoulder. but jay looked neither angry nor displeased and wouldn‘t accept any apology.

“do you feel more rested now?“ concern reflected in his brown orbs.

y/n averted his eyes, an uneasy feeling making way in her stomach.

“hmm,“ she hummed. it had been so much easier to just hate him.

he dropped her off at her house. she had already warned jungwon to stay away from any and all windows and to switch off the light in his room. she wasn‘t about to risk finding out how jay would react to his team member being her little brother.

jay rushed to the passenger side while she was checking if she had everything and opened the door for her. there they stood, two complete idiots, staring into each other‘s eyes. both wore expressions that the other couldn‘t decipher.

“don‘t forget to post the pics we took today,“ he said.

“don‘t worry. I‘ll come up with the cheesiest captions ever so that no one will ever dare to doubt our relationship,“ she teased.

“perfect.“

it felt like their faces were two magnets, pulling each other inevitably closer. his ragged little breathes were fanning her lips. they both leaned in and were in the process of closing their eyes when jay abruptly pulled away. he put himself at a safe distance from her, distress clearly written on his face.

“I should probably leave. sleep well,“ he stammered and rushed back to his car.

y/n was left standing there in her front yard, fingers hovering right above her lips where his had been just a moment ago. they had almost kissed and dread overcame her at the realization that she had wanted it. she would have let him. but he had left and all she could do was pull the jacket tighter around her body to shield her from the sudden cold.

a/n: y/n and jay being civil for once? who would have thought? I worked really hard on this and am surprised to see that I am quite proud. please tell me your thoughts tho, I would really appreciate it <3

Okay I really enjoyed this week’s episode! It set up a bunch of cool stuff that I can’t wait to see, and it was a fun watch. We got a number of desperately needed partner/Digimon moments, and we got some much needed Taiyama friendship action going on - as well as some other stuff I super appreciated (but still want more of). I’m so stoked for how the team is coming together.

We didn’t get a few things I normally would have expected, and I’m never quite sure if I feel that way because it’s truly missing or if it’s just that “this ain’t your momma’s Digimon Adventure” yadda yadda. I don’t think i’ll ever get used to Taichi being so serious in comparison to his 99 incarnation (but, I get the feeling he is more in line with original V-Tamer Taichi, so there’s that).

So not a slam dunk for me, but all in all, it was good!

I just took as many Taiyama pics as I could so why don’t we just knock one out of the way before we begin xD

Sooo last week, the aptly named Eyesmon evolved into the equally well-named Orochimon. I always think “hydra!” (thank you Hercules) so initially my thought was that the plan would be for each of the kids to take out one head. Then I remembered, we only have six kids so far... and then I got a better look at it:

there was clearly one head that was significantly different from the others and appeared the most connected to the body! So the strategy was clearly lop off the central head because that’s what’s controlling the rest! A la VenomVamdemon only slightly less gross hahaha

Meanwhile back in real Tokyo, as Koushirou explains, the electronic pulse generated from this freaky Digimon’s battle is affecting anything digital, or even just anything that uses electricity.

Our kids try to fight but it’s pretty obvious they’re out of their league. I did totally love MetalGreymon and Zudomon leading the charge together sort of. Because I continue to be a sucker for Taichi/Jou growth parallels! Anyway they both get knocked out and de-evolve so Taichi calls for them to regroup.

Sora and Garudamon lead the retreat, scooping everyone up and carrying them out of danger and omg look at Gomamon he looks so cozy gaaah

but not before Taichi realizes someone’s not with them... it’s Yamato of course... he’s just standing there... staring...

Why? Because “my little brother’s in danger in the real world!” That is adorable. Stupid but adorable.

Also stupid yet adorable... Taichi immediately runs to go get him. I have no idea WHAT his plan was but I am eternally grateful that he is such a dork because it gives adorable dorkiness like this:

(no but really this is now my PREFERRED method of transportation for these two, one each tucked under WereGarurumon’s armpit and just dangling like that while he runs like crazy protecting his precious cargo... also look at Taichi holding onto Agumon’s arm the whole time eeeeeiiiii I love those detals it almost distracts from WereGarurumon’s expression of shock when they inevitably get shot and fall to their doom x’D)

yeah so everyone gets shot and falls to their separate dooms, and this was 100% just an excuse to put Taichi and Yamato alone together. The shonen action anime equivalent of “and there was only one bed!”

Jou continues to cradle Gomamon like his very own son

The kids wonder what to do and Jou has a cool moment here and there (like legit cool, where he acts all responsible)

... er, I did say “moment” :P

Meanwhile Koushirou is all cryptic and scary. That is his main job after all. You may think it’s to be the team brain, but it’s actually to make sure we viewers know just how terrible things really are so we can lose all hope of survival even though we already know they’re going to win x’D

I mean that is pretty scary tbh

Taichi breathes a sigh of relief. I wasn’t exactly surprised that he’s not running out to fight - even 99 Taichi usually understood when it was time for a strategic retreat. At the same time, maybe it’s just me, but I totally got the sense that he was scared in this scene. Not out of his head with fear, but definitely worried, I mean none of them seemed to have any effect on this monster earlier. It’s interesting to feel his tension.

“Yamato why did you just stand there in the street while we were trying to make our getaway?”

“Because... my little brother’s right in the center of danger back home... I can’t let this monster continue its rampage or he could get hurt...”

“Yeah man that’s all fine but I mean why did you just stand there in the street like an idiot I’m pretty sure you won’t be much use to your little bro if you’re steamrollered?!?!”

He looks so surprised that all this has been because of brotherly love. I can’t remember, is this the first Taichi’s hearing of Takeru? I know he wasn’t there when Yamato told Sora & co but maybe it was mentioned way back when they jogressed... Either way I wonder why he doesn’t say “I get it, I have a sister back home too that I’m worried about too.” Seems like a moment for bonding ya know?

That is the one thing I felt was missing here... we went through all the trouble of getting Taichi and Yamato alone together, and all that happens is Yamato confides something in Taichi that he’s already shared with the others. I mean, Taichi also shows his willingness to help Yamato and work together, and I think that is the important thing we’re supposed to take away, as Yamato’s all touched by it... but uh, for the most part I felt like not much happened in this scene, at least not that we haven’t already seen before.

Takeru’s phone, he’s waiting for a call from “oniichan” T-T my precious boy

And we actually get to see him!! His face!! His adorableness!! Ahhh Takeru I miss youuu!

Family photo! Parents’ faces not shown in the usual tradition of “divorcees in kids’ shows”! Also the tell-tale brothers are holding hands, but parents are standing as far apart as possible...

Meanwhile Taichi’s mom and sis are trying in vain to evacuate while their car flips out. Hikari sees an image of Orochimon broadcast on a nearby building and flinches away. No one else seems to notice it so maybe this is just her special ability like in 99 Adventure?

Traffic’s at a complete standstill and everyone’s electronics are going bonkers so Mama Yagami has them get out and head for the trains. Unfortunately this is what everyone else decides to do as well, and Hikari winds up like Simba in the wildebeest stampede, only there’s no one to jump in and save her so she tragically dies. :P

Tentomon shyly and awkwardly tries to wring a compliment out of Koushirou too. It works, Koushirou is quick to tell Tentomon that he’s super cool as AtlurKabuterimon. I will be honest though, I wanted him to fail, just because we need to let these kids actually develop!! Their arcs are over so quickly! It took 99 Koushirou 52 episodes to be able to say “I love you” (I think it was “thank you” or something in the original Japanese but the point is he was being super honest and vulnerable at long long last). Imagine what an important moment this would have been if Tentomon’s “and me?” had been met with “huh? uh uh... I was thinking about how to defeat Orochimon... what are we talking about?”

That is something I continue to miss, not just with Koushirou but with everyone... their personal weaknesses just don’t really feel like weaknesses the way they did in 99 Adventure. And I’m just wondering why? For me, that was a driving force of what made 99 Adventure really great. It wasn’t afternoon special “stories with a moral” type drivel, because what they learned in the moment still had to build upon, and they would fail again, and learn again, and become their best selves slowly. And they’d risk a lot in the meantime. It was powerful to ten-year-old me. We are at ep 17 now and by this point in 99 Adventure, we’d had tons of scenes like that. I keep thinking “okay it’s early, we’ve got time!” but at this point it’s not so early anymore! But comparing with 99 Adventure is also a useless effort and I continue to choose to enjoy this show as its own separate thing and believe there’s still lots to come.

Taichi expresses his willingness to fight alongside Yamato even though as Yamato warn’s “it’s gonna be totes yabai”

jokes aside... the way Yamato smiles at Taichi is so cute! It’s hesitant, but once it’s there it doesn’t waver. He’s clearly starting to get used to relying on Taichi for backup, at least, and it’s no question that he feels friendship for him and the others, he’s just reluctant to admit it. The question is how all this will hold up when the situation’s reversed.

I LOVE this particular cap, Idk, there’s something about the sheer determination on Taichi’s face and the trust in Yamato’s as he looks back at him while they ride Garurumon directly into Orochimon’s line of fire... Fizz I think you’re reading too much into the animation. DON’T MESS WITH MY DREAMS OK I KNOW THESE KIDS BETTER THAN I KNOW MYSELF

Suddenly, in the real world, the fight is broadcast on the screens!! I was expecting this to happen every time a screen flickered, but once it did, I was like wow!! they’re going to let the whole world in on the secret of the digital world already!? and I wasn’t sure how I felt about that

BUT... that’s not what happened, maybe. Because so far the only ones who for sure are seeing these images of Digimon and the Chosen Children are Hikari and Takeru. No one else reacted to Orochimon and Mama Yagami doesn’t go “hey, that’s my son!” We could argue no one noticed because they were busy evacuating like maniacs, and Mama Yagami was busy looking for Hikari on the ground and not looking up at the screens. But it feels impossible that someone wouldn’t notice! So my current theory is only Hikari and Takeru can actually see these images... at least for now.

The fight rages. Meanwhile, the others soon catch up, as the only reason they were separated in the first place was to let Taichi and Yamato have a Moment. One thing I really liked though was Sora more or less leading the charge to join Taichi and Yamato. I want more of “second in command Sora” now and forever. (My personal headcanon since I was a kid was always that if something happened to Taichi, Sora, not Yamato, would take over. Tri did not go that way though :P)

Burning eyes of courage!!

They beat Orochimon by taking off his central head, as predicted. Then they all go and take a nap in the street. It is full of d’awww.

Honestly everyone gets it... I apologize for not having any cute Tentomon resting on Koushirou scenes capped! It’s because they drew Tentomon’s head freakishly big and I just couldn’t do it bahahaha but they were cute too

... looks like Takeru’s finally going to join us!! Yaaaay! Very dramatically too it seems!

We got a glimpse of Hikari in a similar moment BUT... I’m not convinced Hikari will truly be joining us. She was separated from her mom and is clearly going to have a Digimon interaction of some sort like Takeru, but I think this is “eighth child” build up, one because the current ending theme is completely Takeru centric, and two because it just makes sense to me that Takeru would be Crisis One and Hikari will be Crisis Two. Idk of course it’s just a hunch.

Fizz before you said Hikari was killed in the stampede I WAS KIDDING

kidding about children dying??? OMG Y’ALL

maybe though Hikari’s swept away by those people, gets her Digivice, then is promptly captured by... idk evil Digimon, or shady government officials? More likely, she gets her digivice and helps but keeps it a secret and plans to show her brother when they reunite... we’ll see!

Chapter Thirty Four: Lush Life

Summary: Your friend invites you onto his podcast over the summer and asks you a lot of question about Tyler and your relationship with him; leading him to do a lot of uncharacteristic things.

Author’s Note: Two in one week?! What sorcery is this? I kid, I kid. So, I’m sorry that the last chapter ended almost identically to others I’ve add -- but it was a fluffy smut chapter that it deserved it; especially with what’s coming up. This one jumps ahead about 5 months from January to August and that’s the biggest “warning.” Again, I was going to add some angst but I’m waiting for it to build up some more. So, this one is sweet and still pretty short but if you keep this one in mind, you’ll be able to tie all the drama together. 🤷‍♀️

The last five months had been almost perfect; almost like it had been at the beginning of your relationship. Tyler took you out to the Bahama’s for a week, the two of you took in a festival in Dallas and Toronto, Chris even convinced the two of you to come back to Calgary for the Stampede where you met Ethan’s new boyfriend, Graham.

“Ethan talks about you all the time!” Graham said upon your first meeting him, hugging you tightly

“I’m so happy to meet you! When Ethan first mentioned you to me, I don’t think I’d ever seen him smile so wide. It was adorable” you laughed. It was true though. Ethan hadn’t really dated since Orlando and you wondered if he’d ever be in that place again so when he told you he met someone on Tinder you were nervous, because it was Tinder, but he couldn’t stop gushing about him. When he FaceTimed you randomly one day, you weren’t expecting him to tell you that things were serious; but he did, and he was so happy that you couldn’t stop smiling. Graham and Tyler talked for a bit while Ethan pulled you aside

“I need you to do me and Graham a favour...” he said

“Of course, I’ll officiate your wedding” you joked and he smiled before shaking his head

“Graham just started a podcast, but he’s having a hard time promoting it...”

“What’s it about?”

“Dating”

“What’s the hook?”

“Hook?”

“There’s a million dating and relationship podcasts out there. What makes his stand out? What’s the brand?”

“It.. He’s describing it as a hopeless romantic’s guide to dating in a world that is forever obsessed with hooking up.”

“Okay, fair...” you furrowed your brow, “what’s the favour? You want me to ask Ty to go on?”

“No, see, that’s what I thought,” he said, excitedly, “I suggested it and said it would be such a good starting off point. You know free publicity and all that. But Graham said no, because the chances of him having another professional athlete, or guest at all, were slim so he wanted someone who people could relate to!”

“And that’s me?”

“OF COURSE!”

“I mean, I’m in!” you smiled, “but I’m not sure I’ll be the most exciting guest...”

Tyler’s P.O.V.

You and Ethan sat down outside the podcast studio while (Y/N) and Graham recorded. You could hear some of it but not enough to gain anything from it, so you turned to Ethan to talk about his relationship; listening to him gush about his boyfriend, you wondered if (Y/N) had ever been like that to her friends about you.

��I’m glad the two of you have been able to get back to a good place,” he said, as if he was reading your mind, “she really loves you but she gets.. stupid sometimes.” He laughed at his own words and you laughed back, hearing Graham’s laugh fill the studio and (Y/N)’s follow soon after.

“What do you think they’re saying in there?” you asked

“We’ll have to wait until tomorrow when Graham puts it up. He does it all himself you know?” Ethan gushed, “he’s pretty amazing..” You weren’t sure what to say, so you smiled to yourself and then over at Ethan who was clearly sporting a deep red blush across his cheeks. The podcast went out the next day, like Ethan had said it would, but you had to wait an extra day to listen to it and when you finally got around to listening to it while you were driving around the city, you inhaled slowly before pressing play.

“Welcome everyone, to those few out there who are actually listening to this podcast, welcome. Hello. Hi. Thank you for being here,” Graham started, with a laugh before introducing you, “I have a guest with me today. I’m excited, my first guest! So, welcome everyone, my new friend, (Y/N) (Y/L/N)...”

“Hello,” (Y/N) said softly, “I’m so happy to be here. This is my first time on a podcast, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.” You were proud of her, how confident she sounded and how happy she seemed. Graham prompted her with questions about whether or not she was single, “I’m not, no, I’m in a relationship,” she answered, “he’s busy a lot but we’re happy. He’s actually sitting outside the studio as we record.”

“He’s a super nice guy, everyone, do you want to keep him a secret or tell people who he is?” Graham asked eagerly

“I can say, I don’t think he’d mind..” she laughed, “Tyler Seguin”

“What’s that like? Dating a hockey player? A pro athlete?”

“I mean it can be a lot... Like I said, his schedule gets really hectic and sometimes I don’t get to see him very often but when we finally get to spend time with each other, we try our best to make the most of it.” You smiled at (Y/N)’s sentiment, getting a quick text from her as you pulled into your driveway

“I just landed, Lucy’s with me. She’s already ordered an Uber. See you soon. Love you!” she wrote

“Love you too” you replied and went back to listening to the podcast, only now realizing they’d changed topics from you to online dating

“I hate all the apps. I was on all of them for literally like a minute,” (Y/N) admitted, “but they’re all so shallow. Even Hinge. The one app where you’re supposed to get to know someone by the answers they give but here’s the thing... NO ONE ANSWERS A GOD DAMN PROMPT!” she exclaimed and the two of them burst into laughter, “they all add pictures of themselves with fish or at a shooting range or like in a huge group of people and you’re just like: What am I supposed to do with this?”

“Right?!” Graham continued, “and, obviously my dating apps are different than yours might be, but if you’re looking for relationships you have to weed out these guys who are just showing pictures of their abs so they can ‘move the camera down’ later...”

“No one wants that! Like, I’m sorry. Gay or Straight, penises are not pretty to look at. I wouldn’t say that vagina’s are either but that’s why it’s called ‘bumping ugly’s’“ they laughed

“So has Ty ever sent you a dick pic?” Graham asked semi-seriously

“No. Thank god. I think he’s being a little more careful with what he sends because he’s been burned with stuff in the past. Which I think is completely fair and actually very smart. Plus, I don’t know what I’d do with it. I’m not gonna stare at it. I mean, I’ve seen it before and I’ll see it again. I don’t need pictures of it when he’s on the road...” You laughed along and cleaned up the house with the podcast playing in the background while you waited for (Y/N) and Lucy to walk in when you heard Graham ask something unexpected

“Do you think you’ll ever get married? Like do you see Tyler ever proposing to you?”

“Tyler? no. I’d marry him in a heartbeat. I mean we’ve been together something like 2 years, maybe 3, and we’ve had our ups and downs but I love his stupid face and his ridiculous love for what he does and how much he loves his fans. I love it all. Honestly. But Ty’s never been the marrying type. You know, we’re young and I think he wants to make sure that whoever he’s with is going to be the person that he wants to BE with. Because I wholeheartedly believe that he wants to marry once or not at all” you stopped what you were doing to listen to what she was saying

“Why don’t you think that’s you though?” Ethan asked and you leaned in

“I’m not the most confident person in the world, and it’s been a huge cause of a lot of our arguments. I can’t see ME, not him, me, ever getting past that part of myself that always jealous of the girls who slide into his DM’s when he’s on the road or the friends of the girlfriends of the other guys on the team who show up at parties or bars when the guys are out or childhood friends who are now tall, beautiful models. I guess I just think that those issues would always come up and it would just strain our relationship. We can always fix it when we’re dating but when we’re married, we’re in it. Like IN IT” she laughed

“And he’s the guy who wants to marry once?”

“Oh Absolutely. When you first meet him, he might seem like an eternal bachelor but once you get to know him you see this super romantic part of him and that’s the part that wants to get married and have kids and retire and just live the rest of his life in complete bliss.” You furrowed your brow at her words, having never really thought about it too much yourself, but you couldn’t say that she was totally off base. You listened to the rest of the podcast while you tidied up the house and just as it ended, Lucy and (Y/N) walked in the door.

“HEY!” the sound of her voice felt different, as if the podcast had tainted it somehow but seeing her face brought the light back to her voice.

“Hey” you answered, giving her a hug and kissing the crown of her head and nodding to Lucy as your welcome to her. “Can I talk to her alone for a second?” you asked Lucy

“Go for it” she said and you guided (Y/N) to the bedroom. She giggled when you closed the door and paced in front of her but when you looked at her, you noticed her smile fade

“What’s wrong?” she asked

“Nothing..” you answered, “I uhm...”

“Ty, you’re making me nervous. What’s going on?!” she whined and you rushed to calm her down, rubbing your hands up and down her arms when you got in front of her.

“I listened to the podcast...” was all you said and she squinted at you, waiting for you to continue but all you could do was sigh.

You waited for Tyler to continue his thought because the podcast couldn’t have been bad enough to warrant this reaction

“I didn’t mean to say anything bad, we were just talking about us and I was being honest...” you said, a frown crinkling your face

“No no, it wasn’t anything bad. I’m so proud of you, I loved listening to you on the podcast,” he smiled but you were still confused, “but.. did you really mean what you said?”

“Which part?” you asked

“The marriage part. You don’t think we’ll ever get married?”

“Ty, we’ve talked about this before. You don’t want to get married, I don’t think I’m ready to get married anyway but you’ve always said that if you’re gonna get married it won’t be for a long time. Like once you’re out of the NHL...”

“Yeah, I’ve said that in the past... but maybe it’s different now..”

“What changed?”

“You?”

“What?” you stepped back, away from his touch

“You changed my mind. My opinions on all of it.” Stepping forward and grabbing your hands softly

“I don’t understand...?” you shook your head

“I don’t want to get married,” he said and you gasped, “right now!” he corrected and you laughed

“I didn’t think you did” you interjected

“I think we’re still too young but I want to do something,” he said and you furrowed your brow again, feeling a slight headache starting from how much he was confusing you but he turned around and grabbed something off the dresser, “it’s not a ring”

“Is that my earring?” you laughed as he knelt in front of you

“Yes,” he smiled, “I can’t promise you I won’t screw up or that you won’t feel insecure. I can’t promise that we’ll ever actually get married but I want you in my life because you make me happy and when I picture my life in 5 years.. you’re there. With me. And the dogs.”

“Ty...” you tried

“I honestly can’t promise you anything but what I can promise you is that I love you and I want you always...”

“You’re such a loser,” you joked, and he smiled, “I can’t promise you anything either. I can’t promise that I’m good for you or that we’re good for each other but I can promise you that I’ve never wanted anyone more than you..”

“So that’s a yes?” he asked

“I mean.. sure? But what is it a yes to? That we love each other because we didn’t really need my earring for that?”

“That we’ll always love each other, married or not. Together or not...” you tilted your head to the side and pouted mockingly

“If that’s what it is,” you said with a smile, moving your hand to his cheek, “of course.” He smiled and pulled you in for a hug, kissing your cheek and holding you there for a bit before Lucy threw open the door.

“What the hell is going on here?” she said only to be met but the two of you smiling brightly.

“We’re not engaged!” you exclaimed and Lucy’s face contorted into pure confusion, leaving you and Tyler to laugh at the situation.

It takes him a while to finally gather up the courage to properly kiss you

You were starting to get worried that he didn’t actually like you

Maybe he was just too nervous to tell you that it wasn’t working for him

On one certain date, Hyunjin had prepared a cute little dinner on the practice room floor

He was so apologetic about the poor setting, but finally had stopped saying sorry when you’d told him for the 2376129th time that you were having fun

At some point, he just went uber silent, watching you not in a creepy way

You eventually noticed, and just stared back

“What?”

He didn’t say anything, but his eyes did widen a wee bit

“What are you lookin at, you’re sorta scaring m-”

He cut you off and just kissed you

BOI YOU WERE SO SHOCKED

Afterwards you both just stared at each other

And then Hyunjin goes all red

“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to do that I’m sorry that was stupid you can slap me if you want!!!!”

“Bruh why would I want to slap you?!”

“You don’t hate me?”

facepalms for days

You meet the other boys only a few minutes later

Go figure

You’re talking casually, the embarrassment from the kiss wearing off

They all come stampeding into the practice room making an ungodly racket

And all go quiet when they realize what they’ve done

Changbin, bless him, tries to reduce the awful level of awkwardness: “*cough* uh hey, Hyunjin.... This must be y/n right?” He waves at you. “We’ve heard a lot about you, Hyunjin never stops talking about you”

He misses the death glare Hyunjin shoots him

Then Jisung

Freakin Jisung, man

Waltzes up: “Hyunjin’s cheeks are really pink”. He gives a cheeky smile. “You didn’t kiss did you?”

The room goes as quiet as a tomb

“OH SHIT YOU DIDN’T ACTUALLY KISS DID YOU????”

Of course Hyunjin completely loses his shit at the sight of you turning a deep red. “GODDAMMIT JISUNG STFU”

Ye your first meeting with SKZ wasn’t the best

But you all bonded rather quickly after

And Jisung buys you little snacks sometimes as an apology for your first awkward meeting

OH GOD THE BOYS ADORE YOU

If you’re ever sick, they always get snacks for Hyunjin to give you

And if you’re really under the weather, they’ll cover for Hyunjin so that he can stay with you and take care of you.

He wraps you in blankets

YOU ARE NOW A BURRITO

And tries to make soup for you

We know what cooking!Hyunjin leads to

You’re chilling on the couch and you suddenly hear a high-pitched scream

You’re up and sprinting to the kitchen at the speed of light still wrapped in a burrito

To find him fanning at a smoking pot

“WHAT THE FUCK HYUNJIN YOU JUST NEED TO HEAT IT UP HOW DID YOU START A MINI FIRE?”

You’re home doesn’t burn down thank goodness

And you end up heating some soup for yourself while Hyunjin watches

And it’s! hilarious! when he’s sick!

He becomes a little ten-year-old istg

But in a really cute way

He doesn’t ask for anything: food, to watch TV etc

Nah he just wants cuddles

The whole damn day

So while you’re struggling to keep a mask on and not getting sneezed on, this idiot is smiling like a puppy if puppies could smile, clinging onto you like a love-filled leach did that sound weird? i think that sounded really weird

Now idk what this dude is afraid of

Something tells me one big fear would be to lose Stray Kids and the people he loves

And so I think he’d get kinda nervous when you both see less of each other and when he gets busier

You can’t talk as much because of his crazy schedule and with lack of sleep, he starts getting more irritated easier during the little intervals of time you get to see each other

At some point he might snap at you, maybe for no reason at all, and you’ll snap back indignantly

Yeah you love him but you’re not taking any attitude

If things get really bad, he just shakes his head, saying he needs some air

You’ll both give yourselves some space, but eventually Hyunjin becomes terrified that you’re too angry with him to talk again

So he goes to find you and talk

You both hug it out and decide to spent the rest of the day together for more quality time

And it’s totally worth Hyunjin getting an earful from Chan the next day

OK back to fluff quickly quickly

On the days Hyunjin goes somewhere, you sometimes join him in the car ride, tho you’re always super careful to never show your face when he gets out

Gotta stay hidden yknow?

You’ll both send cute little texts throughout the day and OOF just couple goals

Although, you’re allowed to cook together as long as you watch what he’s doing

If anything at all goes wrong, the blame is pinned on you

Maybe Hyunjin had been judged or dated once too many times just for his looks?

The thought is enough to make you swear by all you know to always treat him like a treasure

You also make a mental note to ask him sometime

Eventually, his parents realize you have pure intentions and they become so much kinder and warmer

They let you know how welcome you are to visit whenever you want, they offer to send you off with some homemade cookies...

And Hyunjin gets so emotional at the beautiful site in front of him that he bursts into tears

Which causes you and his parents to tease and hug him

if you’re thick, let’s just be clear that im making a statement on how you should NOT judge Jinnie purely because he’s good looking, appreciate his talent!

Now, Hyunjin is kinda tall compared to the rest of SKZ hah im joking of course so it’s pure instinct to want to steal his shirts

Don’t lie, if you had the chance, you would take something i see right thru u

And at some point in your life, you stop realizing ‘hey, this isn’t my jumper!’ and just walk around in clothes that aren’t yours

And when this happens, three things follow:

You see a wild Hyunjin crashing through the apartment towards you, yelling happily that ‘that’s my favorite hoodie!!’ he tries to act like he’s angry and fails in 0.0000003 sec

He doesn’t slow down and freakin slams into you at full velocity, knocking you over or off anything you might be sitting on

He proceeds to tickle you mercilessly, until you either can’t breath and turn purple or until you commit an extreme act of violence in the name of self defense

Once this chaotic episode ends, most of the time with both of you are completely knackered and just lying on the floor

You both cool off by just cuddling and watching something on TV

Or reading something together!!!

I can totally see Hyunjin shoving one of his fav books in your face and insisting that you both take turns in reading aloud to each other

And you both react at the same time to shockers in the book, like you start crying together when a character dies who hasn’t had that traumatic experience or you both squeal with joy and hug each other tighter when something great happens

Did I just turn into a puddle of happy goo?

Yes I fuckin did.

I think Hyunjin wouldn’t take that long to tell you that he loves you

That doesn’t mean that he planned anything tho

HAH! Course he didn’t

Probs says it when he can barely think straight

Maybe you’re watching him dance late at night

You’d brought snacks to keep him going ‘cause he was working his ass off

And there you sit, marveling at his skill and fluidity while executing his choreo

You have a talent for hyping Hyunjin up while he dances, cheering when he leaps high into the air, gasping when he performs a complicated move, and aw-ing and his graceful poses ok im done now

When he finishes one of his more dramatic dances, you jump up with glee and tackle him in a hug despite him being sweaty, saying how proud you are

He hugs you back happily and says:

“I should be the proud one, having someone I love so much being so supportive of me”.

You both freeze, still hugging each other

And neither of you move or breathe for a moment

“What did you say?”

“UhhhHHHH NOTHING I SAID NOTHING”

“You said that you love me!”

“WAT NO I DIDN’T I-”

“HYUNJIN I LOVE YOU TOO!!!!”

“N- wait what?”

“I love you, dumbass” same tho

Oof that poor practice room has seen a lot of awkwardness

I’m cracking up just by thinking of how hopeless Hyunjin could become when SKZ are away

“Hey do you guys have a signal and/or data? I wanna Skype y/n and show them the beautiful view”.

*all of SKZ facepalms*

Always taking pictures to show you

In the evenings, you get a frickin cascade of notifications of both photos and messages from the poor boy telling you he misses you like crazy

When Skyping, he asks to see Khami, who you have the pleasure of caring for during his absence

You do question (mentally and then verbally) whether he calls to talk to you or his dog

He never answers the question heh

There’s lowkey a competition between you and Khami for Hyunjin’s affection

When the boys make their flight home, Hyunjin keeps you informed about everything that’s happening

Jon x Sansa | Modern AU, Imi-taters need not apply

“Sam! Put that down and come back here. No. Sam, you little brat, you need to go upstairs and change into…SAM!”

With an impish laugh, the little boy finally dashed upstairs to his room, and Jon collapsed onto the nearest chair in relief.

The thing is, when Samwell Tarly (senior) had called him two days ago, asking for a favor, Jon had agreed immediately without thinking too much about it. That’s what people do for their friends, right? And he’d known that poor Sam and his wife were both down with a nasty cold for nigh on two weeks now; agreeing to take their son trick-or-treating was no big deal. One might even say it was small potatoes.

Jon looked down at himself and winced. Okay, that phrase was maybe too on the nose.

Jon had never before had cause to wonder how difficult it would be to chaperone a child on Halloween. The last time he’d gone trick-or-treating was when he himself was a child, traipsing around the streets of Winter Town with Theon, Robb, and the rest of the Stark brood. The last time, he’d been dressed up as a knight, waving a cardboard sword around and vowing to save all the best chocolate for his redhaired fair princess.

This time, he’s dressed as a tuber.

With a face on it.

This…was a considerable downgrade.

Little Sam was a sweet kid, really. It’s just…look, he’s six-years old, and he’s hyperactive to begin with, and they haven’t even left the house yet and Jon’s already had to run around chasing him for fifteen minutes just to get him to go put on his costume, and oh gods, he’s going to be high on candy before the end of the night, isn’t he?

“Jon Snow, you are an angel and a saint,” said the hoarse voice drifting up from the bundle of blankets on the couch, under which his friend and his wife were huddled together in all their flu-ridden misery.

There was no denying that both Sam and Gilly both looked the worse for wear. Still, Jon expelled a breath so deep and melodramatic that the curls on his forehead fluttered in the draft. “No, Sam. What I am, thanks to you, is a walking, talking…potato.”

“Potato head,” said Sansa helpfully, as she came in from the Tarly’s kitchen with two large and steaming mugs of herbal tea. Her own potato - sorry, potato head - costume was as cumbersome as his, and yet Sansa managed to look graceful as always as she navigated her way around forgotten toys and discarded sneakers in order to deliver her bounty to the invalids.

“I’ve added a bit of lemon for the vitamin C and honey to soothe your throats,” she told them, smiling.

Jon felt his own face ease into a goofy smile as he watched Sansa fuss over their friends – fluffing cushions and making sure the box of tissues and waste bin were within easy reach – but he quickly schooled his expression when he caught Gilly smirking up at him.

Sam cupped both hands around his drink and took a careful sip. “Sansa Stark, you too are an angel and a saint,” he pronounced with a contented sigh. “Thank you both for agreeing to take Little Sam trick-or-treating.”

“I hope you don’t mind that I asked Sansa to join you, Jon,” Gilly piped up, her shrewd eyes still on Jon. “Little Sam can be quite a handful, and I thought you might want the company. Plus, we had the costumes already, and what’s a Mr. without his Mrs.?”

“Whose clever idea were the costumes?” grumbled Jon, even as his heart skipped a beat at her too-casual words.

“It was Little Sam’s idea, I’m afraid. Toy Story is his favorite movie, and he wanted to be Buzz Lightyear. But I wasn’t ‘allowed’ to be Woody, because his best friend is going to be Woody.” Sam looked so woebegone that Jon didn’t have it in him to continue sulking, so he nodded instead.

“Oh we don’t mind, do we Jon? We love Little Sam, and these costumes are adorable!” Looking at her reflection in the hallway mirror, Sansa adjusted the yellow bucket hat she was wearing to a jauntier tilt. “In fact,” she said, eyes sparkling as she turned to him now, “I thought your costume lacked one final piece, so I found something to complete the look.”

She reached into the bag that she’d brought with her, and with a flourish, she pulled out a bowler hat.

Jon stifled a groan.

“Now I know it’s an absolute crime to hide this gorgeous head of curls under a hat, but Mr. Potato Head needs his bowler, don’t you think?” Sansa ruffled the curls in question and Jon flushed slightly, embarrassed and pleased by the compliment. He stood still and allowed Sansa to position the hat on his head to her liking, basking as he always did in the warmth of her affection.

Theon and Robb would howl if they could see him now, but luckily that was never going to happen.

She patted his face when she finished, then turned them both towards the couch to seek their friends’ approval.

“An iconic pair,” proclaimed Gilly with a quirk of her lips.

“Hear, hear,” Sam agreed in a muffled voice as he blew his nose.

Behind them, pounding footsteps more suited to a stampeding elephant than a six-year old astronaut signaled Little Sam’s return.

“I’m ready, let’s go! I don’t want to miss all the good candy! Hurry up, let’s go!” Buzz Lightyear indeed. The kid was practically vibrating with excitement – and this was pre-sugar - but Jon was in a good mood all of a sudden, and so he smiled at him indulgently.

“Well, come on then, kiddo,” said Jon, making a move towards the door.

“Wait-” said Sansa, grabbing his hand.

He stopped.

“We need to take a picture! When he found out we were going trick-or-treating, Theon asked me to send one to the group! And Robb was the one who was nice enough to lend me the hat in the first place!”

Those rat bastards.

“I have a better idea. How about we don’t?”

But they did. Such were the extent of Sansa’s powers. She even got him to smile and wave to the camera, because of course she did.

Their phones buzzed immediately after the pic was sent.

Theon: OMG

Arya: what a spud

Robb: Sansa Starch and Jon Snowtato

Bran: You guys do look very a-peeling together

Robb: Truly a mash made in heaven!

Theon: HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Sansa: Very punny, you guys

Rickon: If you’re looking for potato puns, you can count on me to chip in

Gendry: Don’t mind me, I’m just a spec-tater

Sansa: Tuber honest, this is better than I expected from you lot

Theon: HA!

Theon: HAA!!!

Theon: HAAAAA!!!!!

Jon: Alright, that’s enough

Arya: don’t be salty, jon

Rickon: Taters gonna tate

Robb: I think we’re frying Jon’s patience

Bran: We’ve really made a hash of things

Jon: You know very well that Sansa and I are only doing this as a favor to Sam and Gilly

Sakura Fest 2018

Sorry it took so long to write this up! I’m finally on a proper “weekend” break for the first time in nearly 2 months (thank god for comp days!) so this is my first chance to really sit down and write up the rundown of Sakura Fes 2018. It’s been a few weeks since the event happened, but I typed up a bunch of notes that night to make sure I remembered as much as possible. :)

This post is really long and text heavy, so apologies in advance! Also, please keep in mind for those of you who have not caught up to the halfway point in the anime that there are heavy spoilers for the first half of the season.

This year’s Sakura Fes was held at Maihama Amphitheater, right next door to Tokyo Disneyland. It’s so close by you can hear and see the park rides. This was a much larger venue than last year’s event at Rune Kodaira Hall (total capacity in the large hall there is 1,229 people vs Maihama Amphitheater’s 2,170) and much more centralized in Tokyo. As with last year, there were two performances - the afternoon one and the evening one.

Tickets for the event really blew me away this time around. I didn’t win the lottery tickets early on, but waited for the general ones to go on sale. The morning they did, tickets for BOTH events FULLY sold out within only 10 minutes! I tried to get tickets for the afternoon event, but they disappeared just as I was buying them. Luckily, I snatched up ones for the evening event this time (and am SUPER glad that I did!).

#1) Before the Event

Even though I was going to the later one, a good friend of mine in Tokyo had lucked out and gotten herself a lottery ticket for the early show, so I met up with her before it started. I loitered around outside with her until it was time for her session to start.

There were TONS of people waiting around for the goods for the evening show to go on sale, and apparently a lot of stuff had sold out quickly for the early show.

I waited where I thought we were supposed to line up for a bit, but then someone with a megaphone instructed that everyone for the evening session’s goods line needed to form a different line elsewhere - it was almost like a stampede getting to where we needed to go! I managed to get sort of close to the front of the line somehow, but even so by the time I got into to buy goods, some stuff was already sold out!

After wandering around and taking as many pics as I could, I made my way inside (my seat was in the very, very back of G Block in the theater).

#2) Event Intro & Cast Introductions

The stage itself looked like this from where I was sitting. Take note of the location of the magic circle on stage:

Once everyone had settled in for the event itself, the lights dimmed and the stadium made an announcement about the rules (no photography, filming, etc, so unfortunately I don’t have any photos or videos for this reason aside from the ones above).

Then suddenly, from where Sakura’s Clear Card magic circle was shining on the stage, the floor sunk down and opened up leaving a huge hole where it was. It rose back up seconds later with the life-sized Kero and Suppie mascots dressed up on it. Suppie had on a pair of bunny rabbit ears on his head (Kero did not). Behind them, they had a whiteboard about Easter (much like they do in the Kero-chan Explains It All segments at the end of every episode).

As always, Kero (voiced live by Aya Hisakawa) greeted everyone with "Konanachiwa!!” After getting the audience to do it back, they dove into an explanation about Easter. Unlike Halloween, Easter is not a commonly celebrated holiday in Japan even in the secular sense (Easter Bunny, egg hunts, etc), and the majority of Japanese people don’t know what it’s about. Kero started by explaining that Easter is a Christian holiday and is about resurrection and coming back to life. He started going deep into the religious origins of the holiday, but Suppie held up a sign saying “Don’t give such complicated explanations!!”

Kero gave up and said that if the religious meaning of the holiday is too complicated for everyone to understand, then there is a secular meaning too. He said that the Clear Card Arc is the resurrection of the Cardcaptor Sakura anime, which is why they chose to hold the event as “Sakura and her Friends’ Happy Easter” this year. He also explained that bunnies and eggs are a motif of the holiday and that’s why Suppie was wearing rabbit ears. Kero said that it was time for the event to begin and they both waved as the big monitor above cued up.

The platform they were on descended below again as Maaya Sakamoto’s “Clear” and the opening visuals for Clear Card Arc started playing. As the opening credits progressed, the platform rose back up and all of the CCS cast members participating in the event were on it this time:

Everyone waved at the audience and as the theme ended and the platform stabilized, they walked back to the main stage area, but didn’t take their seats just yet. The emcee came out at this point and went through a brief introduction of each cast member. They were in this order from left to right on the stage: Ogata-san, Kumai-san, Hisakawa-san, Tange-san, Iwao-san, Suzuki-san, Hanae-san. [Note: I can’t remember if Kumai-san and Hisakawa-san were sitting in this format, but if not they were switched seats - everyone else was for sure sitting like this.]

The emcee brought up that this year’s theme is Easter again and did another explanation of it for the audience. She said again that it’s originally a Christian holiday, but that in Japanese it’s known as 復活祭 (”Resurrection Festival”) and they wanted to use it because CCS came back too.

At that point, everyone went to sit down in the chairs provided and the emcee gave each staff a chance to introduce themselves. During Tange-san’s turn, she said when they were downstairs before the platform rose up earlier, the Kero-chan mascot was dancing to Clear and was a pro at it. Apparently it was really cute and she really wished she could’ve recorded it (which reminded me of the Cherryblossom viewing chapter with The Record). Hanae-san’s intro was the funniest to me - he said he had a yakiniku bento for lunch and was super energized for the evening show, lol!

This was where it became apparent that the evening show was the “fun one” of the two: After the yakiniku bento comment, Hanae-san said よろしく (”I’m in your care”) to the audience in Kaito’s voice and made a point to sound “sexy.” Everyone laughed but around the same time Suzuki-san was readjusting herself on her seat cushion and sort of absentmindedly said ��持ちいい (”That feels nice”). As soon as she said that everyone in the audience started laughing super hard because it was so unexpected. She immediately got flustered and apologized and said “No, no no! I meant the chair is really comfortable and soft!! That’s all...!!” and laughed with everyone.

#3) Question Time

“How did you feel about Sakura and Syaoran’s reunion?”

As everyone was seated, the emcee opened up for question time. It started off with the question asking how Tange-san and Kumai-san felt acting out the very first SyaoSaku scene of the new series - the cherryblossom reunion. The question showed up on the monitor and then they played a clip of the scene (and said that the clip was only played at the evening show - slightly different from earlier).

Tange-san said she was shy about it from the very beginning when she had to record it. Kumai-san mentioned that during the recording session, she was nothing but happy with how it was written and how they performed it. However, having the scene itself played in front of SO MANY people that day was embarrassing.

The cast on a whole then examined Sakura and Syaoran’s dialogue in that scene. The main part they looked at was when Sakura said she had so many things to tell Syaoran, and he reciprocated that he did too. They the looked at the following exchange in particular:

Sakura: 教えてね！全部！(”Tell me everything!” - The word 教える can be translated as either “Tell” or “Teach” meaning-wise) Syaoran: ああ。(”Yeah.”)

Ogata-san out of NO WHERE, turns to Kumai-san and goes “So I’ve gotta ask, but... What do you mean by 'Yeah' in response to 'I will teach you everything'? What is this 'EVERYTHING' you’re gunna teach her?” The cast and audience lost it again laughing.

Kumai-san got shy and couldn’t answer fully, but goes "Well uh... yeah... you'll have to ask that to CLAMP..." and the cast reminded us again that because we we’re at the evening event they were being goofy and making suggestive jokes like this that they couldn’t at the more “family oriented” afternoon event.

“Tomoyo records lots of personal moments.”

The next scene they examined was where Tomoyo appeared in the SxS scene above recording their reunion, and then in their date episode just before they entered the aquarium (the “This is my best shot!” scene).

The question this time was directed at Iwao-san, asking if she thought that Tomoyo’s recording sessions were growing in scale and becoming more extensive. She replied that “Yes, they are. It’s because (she sees) the love growing (between Sakura and Syaoran) and wants to capture it along with their happiest moments.”

I think it was Ogata-san who jumped back in saying something along the lines of “I wonder just HOW MUCH (of their love) you’ll get to record, heh heh heh...” and everyone lost it again. I was kind of surprised at how much they were implying, haha!

“Have Kero and Touya finally acknowledged Syaoran?”

The next question was whether or not Kero and Touya finally recognize Syaoran as someone who is an ally and cares about Sakura. They played clips of the scene where Kero and Tomoyo were skyping during the date episode, and during the “ruined date” scene where Syaoran retrieved the soggy bento and Touya looked at him and sighed.

Hisakawa-san said that before, Kero would always say things like “You wanna go, brat!?” and try to pick fights with him, but now whenever he says “brat” there’s some love and affection in it. They went on to say that Touya has also started to recognize him a bit and that neither he nor Kero do as much as they used to in protecting Sakura anymore. I read this as meaning it’s not that they don’t want to, but they realize that they have extra help in Syaoran now.

They said that Yukito, Yue, and Touya don’t do as much anymore, but Tange-san said that no matter what everyone helps "Sakura” and that makes her happy. But the reason they don’t do as much now is because “Sakura” has grown up and is more adult.

Something interesting got brought up here with regards to the voice recording sessions - the scenes are recorded in A and B parts separately. Meaning that some of the cast who are in scenes together will record their lines, but don’t know what happened with the other casts’ parts in previous or simultaneously occurring scenes.

Ogata-san said that sometimes when recording their B part, they say to each other “Jeez, what on earth did they do in the A part!?”. It then got brought up that they are close to the end of recording for the anime and they sort of gave the impression they know how things will be finishing up. It was not clear and they avoided mentioning if this “wrap up” was just for the “season” or if there would be any more series to follow.

“Have Syaoran’s techniques stopped working?”

The next clip was from Episode 12 where they caught the Hail card. It was when Syaoran’s fire technique didn’t work and he had to use his other “secret” power to stop the card.

They asked Kumai-san what exactly it was that happened there, but she replied that it’s too much of a spoiler and that they’re not really sure themselves. It seemed like maybe the cast DOES know and just can’t say it because of non-disclosure.

When she was asked, she simply said “I’m not sure if it’s okay for me to say... but I think we have like 3-4 episodes left to record?” Tange-san jumped in signaling "Nooo!” with her arms and corrected Kumai-san saying that they had “several” episodes more to go at that point.

“Is Yue an “Agokui” Type?”

[顎クイ “Agokui”: Suddenly lifting someone’s face by their chin in an aggressive, yet sometimes romantic fashion]

Ogata-san talked about how she has played many "cool type / handsome guy” characters in the past. They then played the scene where Yue says to Sakura “Tell me anything that happens, even if it’s something small” and touches her chin.

She said that during this scene and others, she was just acting it out naturally and how she thought would be a normal back-and-forth between them. However, some of the lines that would just come out without thinking were deemed as not appropriate by the directors. She said that the way she acted the lines came out naturally because as a woman acting out a male role, she was just saying what seemed appropriate and not thinking of what “male feelings” might be like in this situation.

For example, at the end of one of the Facetime/Skype sessions with Sakura, she would say おやすみ (”Goodnight”) as Yue. After about 2 or so times of this, the directors pulled her aside and commented that “It’s a little suggestive saying ‘goodnight’ like that to a middle schooler...”

As such, she had to tweak how she replied in that scene. She went on to say that she talked about it with Tomokazu Seki (Touya) as well on how they needed to act in certain scenes.

Apparently even at the Sakura Fes event, the staff was instructed not to ad-lib dialog anymore. Hisakawa-san had done it at last year’s event and they were warned not to do it as much this year, but overall ad-libbing was too much fun and it’s something the audience audience enjoyed, so it couldn’t be helped.

“Who are the new characters?”

The next topic up was the new characters: Akiho and Kaito. The scenes they played were Akiho’s self-introduction at the school and her competing against Syaoran in badminton. They also showed the scene where Sakura and Tomoyo come over to her house and meet Kaito for the first time.

Suzuki-san and Hanae-san talked about how it felt to record their lines. Suzuki-san in particular said that during the badminton scene, Kumai-san helped her match up the timing by playing air badminton with her in the recording booth.

They also talked about how Hanae-san constantly keeps reassuring everyone Kaito’s not a suspicious guy. He said everyone suspects him and that the cast had asked everyone at the afternoon event what their opinions were. Everyone reacted that they think he’s definitely shady.

Suzuki-san said that even SHE thought that and when she was acting out Akiho’s lines, the directors told her she had too much doubt in her voice. The instructed her to reassess and act her lines out in a more Akiho-like way - that she loves him and thinks he’s a really good person, even if Suzuki-san herself doesn’t think that.

Hanae-san chimed back in and emphatically goes “But I am a good person!!!” and tried to convince everyone again.

“The new Key, new Magic Spell, and new Wand...!?”

The last scene they put up on the monitors was Sakura releasing the new key into the sealing staff and using her new spell. Cue a shameless plug for the new Takara Tomy Clear Card wand toy that has voice recordings from Tange-san.

The cast collectively was like “YES, TAKARA TOMY EVERYONE. OF COURSE” and I got the impression they were a bit sarcastic like they had to advertise it as part of their job, but were a little like “Yeah, we know this isn’t what you’re here for, lol.”

They brought out the wand and had Tange-san use it. She asked the audience to say the “Release!” chant along with her and said if we did that maybe some magic would happen. When we all said “Release!” together, the stage platform opened up again. She asked us to help her seal the stage back up and everyone repeated the sealing chant together. Upon shouting “Secure!”, the stage went back to normal.

After this, the emcee made the annoucement for the “Sakura Hoeeee” Mori Arts Center Gallery Exhibition in Roppongi Hills later this year in October. They asked everyone to please look forward to the event.

Apparently, this is where the live stream ended for the afternoon event, though there was no live stream for the evening event.

#4) Live Cast Voice Acting Performance

Now it was time for a live voice performance from the cast. The emcee explained that the story would be how Sakura and her friends spend Easter Sunday (that very day). What surprised me the most for this was that for the sake of the performance, all of the characters seemed to know each other and of each other’s existence. This meant that Kero was interacting in scenes with Akiho and Kaito.

Sakura spoke first and was humming along while doing something in the kitchen. Tomoyo chimed in asking what she was up to. Sakura replied that she and Akiho were making eggs/omelettes because that’s what’s done on Easter.

Akiho said she wasn’t good at cooking, but wanted to try her best. On hearing this, Tomoyo said that she wanted to record them cooking and Sakura gave a loud “Hoeee..."

Sakura asked Akiho to go and get the eggs out of the fridge, but when Akiho opened it they were no where to be found. Everyone panicked a little bit, but then Kero appeared. He said “Well did you know that on Easter people like to hide eggs! So all we need to do is go find them.”

Kaito said “Let’s go look" and Yukito agreed with him. The whole group then traveled all over the world looking for the eggs! They ended up in a strange place... EASTER ISLAND!

Syaoran remarked saying “What is this place?” when they saw the monoliths on the island, so Kaito jumped in explaining that these were the Moai of Easter Island. Kero then explained that the Moai were mysterious carved figures shrouded in mystery.

But the group couldn’t find any eggs on the island, so they moved on. The next place they appeared was somewhere they initially thought must be “far away” from Japan. They thought that it must be overseas, but then found it out it was the “Land of Dreams” - AKA Disneyland right next door! They decided to split up and look for the eggs.

Sakura and Syaoran were paired off and while looking around and each found a matching egg. Their eggs’ image was shown on the monitor and were green with pink designs. Together they made a pair.

Syaoran once again saw some helpless foreign tourists and whipped out his English skills again. (Kumai-san has really mastered the “Do you need any help?” line lmao). He also said “The cat is in Disney Sea” in English. Sakura went CRAZY about the English and was like “Syaoran-kun, what did you say!?” so Syaoran ad-libbed and said “Ahh… well if I do a direct translation… I said 'There’s a cat in the Land of Dreams” (which was a reference to Geratoni - a plush stuffed cat of Tokyo Disney’s Duffy & Friends collection.)

Sakura was impressed and begged him to teach her English again. They had basically the same exchange as the date episode and he said “I'll try, but I don’t know if I can teach you anything useful...” to which she responded that she already remembered the word for “cat” so it was okay. As always, Tomoyo suddenly popped out of nowhere recording them and they got embarrassed.

The scene switched to Kero and... Yue! Yue was in full form and searching for eggs too! He said he could search better in this form and was doing it to assist his mistress. Kero remarked that “Well it's true that in Disneyland, people will just think you’re cosplaying someone, so I guess it’s fine. But wait! I should be in my true form too! I will change now into my--”

Yue cuts him off saying “Don’t you dare! If you do, you'll draw too much attention and you'll get petted and hugged and kicked by all of the children here!!” Kero was like “Ahh... oh man... you’re right... Maaan, but I would look so cool if I did!!”

The scene changed again, this time to Akiho and Kaito. They were searching for eggs on their own and she thanked him for helping her. Kaito said that he was “just happy that you seem to be having a good time with everyone.” All of the sudden they both stopped and said “What on earth is that??”

Akiho and Kaito had discovered the BIG GIANT EGG...

While the cast had been performing, a larger than life egg shaped... thing(!!) had risen up out of the rising platform floor again.

Everyone approached the egg and were like “Whoa! You could make a HUGE omelette with this!” However, the egg was so big that they couldn’t take it back home. So Kero said "Well one thing that is done on Easter is egg decorating! We should all decorate it...”

Then they temporarily stopped the voice acting session and the whole cast moved up to the egg. It turns out that it was a giant egg shaped whiteboard. Right next to it on the platform was a cart with lots of markers, cherryblossom petal shaped stickers, and decorative balled up tissue paper. The emcee explained the cast were going to be given 3 minutes to decorate the egg and the started playing a little tune while we watched them bustle about. But in the end they had so much fun that they went a bit over time!

One of them dropped their mic during the decorating session, but I couldn’t see who it was. Everyone jumped though, haha.

Hisakawa-san and Tange-san drew two Suppie faces: One was regular Suppie, and one was “evil Suppie.” They said that without knowing it, they had both drawn Kero at the afternoon session, so during the break between the two they decided to do Suppie for the evening session.

The cast drew a Momo, a random crab using cherryblossom petals for claws, happy faces, a cherryblossom tree, and a panda. But the best part was that they also wrote a few inappropriate things!

Hanae-san wrote 真実の愛 (“True love”) and Suzuki-san wrote right beneath it 夜だから (“Because it’s night time”). And - echoing what she’d said earlier about how saying “goodnight” was inappropriate - Ogata-san wrote おやすみ (“Goodnight”) in really big letters.

Regarding the panda, Hanae-san said he drew it because he was wearing a panda pin. Everyone had asked him at lunch why he was wearing that and the reason was really cute. He said he was confused about what Easter was and thought that it was a holiday where any animals would be appropriate, so he wore a panda instead of a rabbit.

After that, they all returned to the main stage to resume the voice acting performance. A staff member wheeled the egg off and put it on the side of the stage.

Sakura and her friends were all happy as they finished decorating the egg. I think Syaoran said “Where do you even display an egg this big?” but no one knew the answer.

Then Kero said part of the Easter tradition was that God would choose whichever designed egg was the best and grant the person who designed it a wish. That wish would come true. Everyone reacted saying “Oh wow, really???” (I was sitting there thinking thinking “wtf that doesn’t sound right...”), but then Yukito spoke up saying “I’ve never heard that.” Kaito joined in saying the same thing.

Kero laughed nervously and said “Ahaha... I’ve been found out...” indicating he had made it all up. Tomoyo said he was just like Yamazaki lying to them like that. But in the end, they all had a nice time decorating the egg and doing the Easter egg hunt.

(I don’t fully remember how this came about, but) there was a part where Yukito said to Sakura that she was very adorable and she reacted by saying “Hanya--n!!” (I was hoping Syaoran would react somehow, but he didn’t so I guess he is very secure with their relationship now ♡). They then said they should take a photo with the egg to commemorate the day.

There was a pause again in the session and the emcee announced that the cast would be taking a photo with the audience from the stage. Since it was a huge amphitheater, they were taking 3 or so shots - left, center, and right side of the seating area. They said that anyone who was shy and didn’t want to be in the photo could cover up their face.

Center stage was first, then the left side, then the right side. After that, they finished up the voice acting portion of the night:

The scene changed back to the Kinomoto residence. Everyone had gone home for the evening and it was just Sakura and Kero.

Sakura said there had been a lot of tough things that happened earlier, but that it had been a fun day. She said “Oh, I even forgot we were supposed to make eggs today!”

Kero replied saying “What? You couldn’t find the eggs? But, I’d taken them out of the fridge earlier and I put them back...”

Sakura raised her voice and said “WHAT!?” and Kero replied “Yeah, they’re right here...” revealing that they’d been hidden in the fridge the whole time.

Sakura then ad-libbed in Kansai-ben and said ケロちゃん！！！なんでやねん！？！(“Kero-chan, what the hell!?”)

The cast finished up at that point and thanked everyone for watching. Then they said “You gave us an Easter photo together with you, so we will give you a present also!”

Suddenly, tons of paper stickers/notes from the cast began falling from the ceiling! I think they were egg shaped, but it was hard to tell because I was in the very back. They fell into the audience and a few lucky people got them. Some people rushed out of their seats to get the ones that had fallen into the aisles.

Some of the “gifts” fell onto the stage too, so Ogata-san and Tange-san helped pick them up and give them out to people in the audience. Ogata-san was really awesome and shouted out “Are there any little Sakura-chans in here!?” and called for any kids present to come up and get the stickers. One very happy little girl came running up and received one directly from Ogata-san. After that, she asked if there was anyone present who had been at both the afternoon and evening performances (I think there might have been a couple people).

After handing the remaining gifts out, all of the seiyuu thanked the audience again and left the stage together.

#5) Live Musical Performances

Maaya Sakamoto

Next, they introduced a special video message from Maaya Sakamoto on screen, who unfortunately couldn’t be at the event because it overlapped with her own international tour dates. In the message, she said she was so happy to sing “Clear” as the theme song.

The show runners gave her the theme of “clear things” for her to use for direction when writing her song. She explained that the word “clear” has multiple meanings: “transparent” or "definite and precise” or "to succeed with a goal”, so she wanted to write a song with all of these meanings rolled into one.

She let us know that she was so happy to be part of CCS again and although she wasn’t there, her colleague Saori Hayami was and would be joining us as the representative today.

Saori Hayami

The emcee came out with Hayami-san and said that as the second half of the season would be starting the next week, it was time to pass the baton over to the new OP and ED singers.

Hayami-san explained that everyone has little things that shine in their hearts and are like “Jewelry of the Heart.” After her explanation, she gave a live performance of the “Jewelry” ED.

To be honest (and I hate to say this), but I didn’t think that Hayami-san was very energetic in her performance. She seemed a little lacking in enthusiasm and just walked one circle around the stage, but as always the song itself was very nice.

While she performed, they played clips of the anime on the screen and showed the Jewelry ED clips as well. At the very, very end, they FINALLY revealed what Sakura had seen on her smartphone at the end of the ED (where she’s showing Tomoyo and Kero and they all smile): It was the “photo” they just took earlier that day on April 1st -- the official artwork for Sakura Fes this year.

The text message she had gotten read “Thank you for taking a photo with us!”

When the performance ended, the emcee came back out and thanked her. She reiterated that they were “passing the baton from next week.”

Kiyono Yasuno

Kiyono Yasuno and Minori Suzuki came out on stage. Suzuki-san had changed her clothes from earlier to red outfit and yellow shoes. The emcee introduced each of them and they talked about CCS and what they liked about it.

Yasuno-san said she’s watched CCS for a really long time. The very first time was when she was really young and her grandpa watched it with her. To her, it was like a dream being chosen to sing the new OP and that this was her first single.

The emcee asked who they thought was “cool / good-looking” from the series. Hayami-san said that she thought Yukito and Eriol were attractive. Yasuno-san had watched the CCS syndication in elementary school too and was the same age as Sakura through it. Because of that, she thought Syaoran was the coolest guy. Suzuki-san also thought the same.

Hayami-san then “passed the baton” and they left the stage to let Yasuno-san perform Rocket Beat.

It was my first time (and all of the audience’s too) to hear Rocket Beat and right away I thought it was an awesome song. It really seemed fitting for CCS. In addition, Yasuno-san was super energetic and gave a very spirited performance. She was actively all over the stage. As before, her performance was also synced up with scenes from recent anime episodes.

When she finished, Suzuki-san came back on stage and the figuratively “passed the baton” again.

Minori Suzuki

Suzuki-san is in charge of the new ED “Rewind” and also gave a really awesome performance. The song was super cute and (as everyone knows by now) clock themed.

She did motions of the clock while performing, syncing up with the “Tick Tock, Tick Tock” lyrics. More clips from the series played, but nothing new to that point.

#6) Closing Out the Event

When Suzuki-san finished her song, the whole cast came back out on stage. The staff then wheeled out a birthday cake again in front of Tange-san - just like last year. Once again, the audience sang Happy Birthday to Sakura and Tange-san blew out the candles.

They talked about what birthday this would be for Sakura, and Tange-san confirmed that this would be Sakura’s 13th birthday. She then said “These past 20 years – Ahhh! I mean... it’s been 20 years but Sakura’s not 20! She’s definitely 13!” and laughed.

They showed an image of the cake on screen and it was the one that was currently being sold by Animate. They then said it was time to close out the event and the audience started groaning, so the emcee had to apologize for how “short” the event was.

Everyone said their goodbyes, starting with Yasuno-san. She said it was a dream come true to sing the theme song for an anime she had loved so much as a child and that exactly one year ago on April 1st she had started her singing career. She promoted her first single (a mini album came out just before this).

Hayami-san said her Thank You’s next for everyone enjoying Jewelry.

Hanae-san was third, saying “I will do my best, and from here on it’s going to be Akiho Akiho Akiho taking center stage!”

In response, Suzuki-san said “I will do my best and so will Kaito-san! I’ve loved this anime so much! Last year at this time, I was wondering ‘who is going to play Akiho’ and never thought that it would be me!!” She said she feels so lucky to be both a seiyuu and the singer of the second ED for the series.

Ogata-san was next, but was caught off guard and sort of spaced out. But she said thank you to everyone for all their support. She said that at last year’s Sakura Fes, they found out really soon after it ended there would be another one this year. So she shouted out to all of us “that means THERE SHOULD BE ANOTHER ONE NEXT YEAR RIGHT (EVENT SPONSORS)??”. She said that even in this industry, it’s super rare for the whole cast to come back for a show’s reboot and that really demonstrates how beloved CCS is.

She passed the mic to Kumai-san - who was also spaced out and wasn’t paying attention again. But she also said thank you to everyone.

Next was Iwao-san who said thank you and did a mini-voice over of Tomoyo saying 超絶によかったですわ！(“It was absolutely fantastic!”).

Hisakawa-san was next, and like Ogata-san, she said that last year she got a call about a week or so after Sakura Fes ended asking her to save the date for this one. She said “I mean, after today, I’m sure that just a few days will pass and then I'm sure I'll get another call… Hahaha! You guys want another one right!?” and everyone cheered.

Finally, it was Tange-san’s turn and she said they almost made it through the whole thing without a "Kero-chan Check.” At last year’s event, they always seemed to come out of nowhere and no one ever knew when to expect it. She begged Hisakawa-san to do one and Hisakawa-san laughed. She got a bit shy and was like “For real???” but in the end shouted “KERO-CHAN CHEEECK!” as Kero. Tange-san then thanked everyone for their support and for loving Cardcaptor Sakura. She hopes everyone will continue to love it in the future and bowed.

The cast came out into the circle stage to say one final goodbye and then they waved and departed the stage from both sides of the main stage. The emcee left last after deep bow. The Jewelry ED came on the big screen and played through to the end.

After the song finished, the Kero and Suppie mascots once again rose out of the platform floor. BOTH of them were wearing rabbit ears this time. Kero-chan started to talk about how awesome it was that he grew another pair of ears too.

Suppie had a new card this time that read “Just say what you have to say!” so Kero started talking at super-sonic speed thanking the cast and staff in batches:

He said to tune in next week for the start of the second half of the season, and also to keep watching him be so awesome in the Kero-chan’s Corner segments. Suppie violently shook the sign!! lol!

Then gave one last “thank you” to the audience and brought the event to a close, saying “We definitely kicked up even more of a fuss than ‘some place’ that’s right next door” (again, Tokyo Disney lol).

The platform lowered, bringing them back down underneath the stage, and just as they disappeared there was another final “Kero-chan cheeeeck!” shouted. The lights went off and then came back on with the ending announcements.

As I was leaving, I made a friend who was a big fan of Suzuki-san from when she was in Macross and had only just recently started watching CCS because of her. This fan had only seen Clear Card Arc so far, so I said to definitely watch the rest of the series!

I hope if there’s another Sakura Fes next year, I’ll have the chance to go again. :)
