prog....ress??
really like the new jewelry box thingy I got from amazon, it's clear so I can see what's in it, and also mildly tacky in a 90s way, which is my favourite nostalgia. also matches the faux treasure chest thing I've had since childhood (it is tragically very broken tho alas)
I'm not getting rid of anything, but I did put some of the things that were just on display bc I've had them since I was 10 (and I had no other decorations) in the storage room. I love em but I don't really want em on display (if I ever achieve my house goals they will go on the dresser in the spare room lmao). Also I might switch the selenite pillar out for some more colourful rocks bc it kinda blends into the wall. But at least I did some things!! I feel like it looks so much more ~adult~ now lol.

the subject of every photo - fushiguro megumi
Tumblr media
word count: 5,555 (i'm so proud of that) warnings: swearin' summary: a photoshoot at the pumpkin patch isn't his ideal day, but at least megumi gets to spend time with you. and maybe he'll take a few pictures anyway. (a/n): really delayed pumpkin themed fic with the softest boy but i needed to write this ok a greater power called upon me to do it
___
“It’ll be fun!” Nobara had claimed, although her tone was more threatening than bubbly.  “It’s just a little photoshoot at a pumpkin patch, why so gloomy about it?”
And it wasn’t that Megumi was gloomy about it, because he wasn’t.  It would be immature to pout about a simple hangout among friends.  The thing was… he just didn’t care for the whole pumpkin patch thing that really seemed to take off on instagram and tiktok these last few years.
He hadn’t carved a pumpkin since he was just a tot, and even then he’d only done it to satisfy Gojo’s bonkers need to participate in every holiday tradition.  He never particularly liked scooping the guts and seeds out, and as a kid wasn’t decent enough with a blade to carve a face that actually looked interesting.  Not to mention, it was always chilly in late October, making it insufferable to wander around outside solely to pick out a big orange vegetable.
Really, if he wanted a pumpkin that bad, he would’ve picked out a discount one from the grocery store.  But really, he didn’t want a pumpkin.
Nonetheless, Nobara had bought four disposable cameras— which he didn’t know were even still a thing— told everyone to wear their cutest, coziest outfit, and pretty much demanded they all go spend the afternoon at one of the more popular farms in town.  As with most plans, Megumi begrudgingly agreed.
Even under three layers— his coat, his sweater, and the long sleeved tee he wore underneath them both— the crisp air still pricked at his skin and left goosebumps in it’s wake.  It was hard to enjoy being out here when he was fighting the urge to shiver.
“It’s pretty cold for this, huh?”
Megumi wipes away the resting bitch face he’d been making, opting instead for as much neutrality as he could muster.  He turns to (y/n), only to find her peering up at him from behind her little plastic camera.  His brows wrinkle.
“Don’t take a picture of me at that angle”
He puts his hand over the lens and pushes it away before she could even think about snapping the photo, and she chuckles a bit at his boyish antics.  He almost cracks a smile when she’s peeking up at him with her cheeks tinged pink from the cold.  He squashes it before his lip could curl too far.
“Well what side do you prefer then?” She teases, shifting around to stand before him and raising her shitty little camera again.  “Full portrait? Or perhaps a side profile?”
Megumi rolls his eyes, but when he starts to walk away, she’s quick to follow.  He doesn’t dislike her company.
Nobara is off farther in the field, ordering Yuuji to pick up as many pumpkins as he can for the perfect picture.  It was only a matter of time before she came over and started barking at the two of them to make the perfect poses as well.
“So why do you hate pumpkin patches?” (y/n) breaks their silence, but when he turns to her again, she’s fixing her camera on a sparrow pecking away at a less than ripe pumpkin.
“I don’t hate pumpkin patches,” He replies, but even he has to admit the dryness in his voice makes it seem a bit unbelievable.  “It’s just…” He glances at her out of the corner of his eye, but he’s quick to straighten his gaze when he finds her full attention on him now.  “Cold” He finishes, lamely, but it’s not untrue.
He fiddles with the plastic camera in his hands.
“Yeah,” (y/n) agrees from beside him.  “Would’ve been nice to do this a few weeks ago, when it was still sunny”
Megumi nods back at her, unsure of what else to say.
He hoped that they weren’t doomed to only speak about the weather today.  However that meant he’d probably have to put the effort in to change the subject.  His palms began to sweat.
It was their day off, so he didn’t want to strike up a conversation about work, and preferably he’d like to avoid the subject of sorcery altogether.  So that narrowed down the options by a lot.
He knew that like him, she liked to read.  But she was more into the fantasy stuff, and the only book off the top of his head he could make conversation about was The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe and he was fairly certain that wasn’t currently on her shelf.
Was it always this hard or was he just overthinking it?
“Wait, stay right there!”
Before he can suck it up and ask how her most recent assignment went, (y/n’s) throwing her arms up at him to make him freeze in place.  Megumi startles at the sudden movement and holler, but he listens and stays put while she backs up a few steps.
“The sun is peeking out,” She explains, before steadying her camera in front of her face.  “The lighting is great” She says with a grin, and then without warning, she snaps the photo.
Megumi wants to complain, he didn’t even have time to smile or pose or anything.  When that picture got printed, he’d just be a guy standing there, probably with a resting bitch face.  Nobara wouldn’t be happy.
But (y/n’s) still grinning as she lowers the camera.
“Too bad we gotta wait so long to see ‘em,” She says as she heads back towards him.  “It’d be nice to—”
“Stop moving”
He’s more blunt than she is, already lifting his camera and peeking through the small lens.  (y/n) gets the hint and retraces her steps to fit properly in the frame.
“Better?” She asks, tossing her hair over her shoulder dramatically before posing with a bright smile.
Megumi snaps the photo without warning, although he’s sure that this one will turn out much better than the one she’d taken of him.  For one, she’s smiling, but he’s also certain that she’s much more photogenic than he is.
She’s at his side again as they wander around the patch, fiddling to fit the camera into the pocket of her coat.  It takes him a few minutes to find his courage again, but eventually Megumi clears his throat and tries to spark conversation.
“Gojo used to take a million pictures of me and Tsumiki”
That seems to be exactly the right thing to say, because (y/n’s) entire demeanor lights up as she looks up at him with wide eyes.
“Really?” She laughs softly at the mental picture.  “Did he keep, like, photo albums and stuff?”
“Oh yeah,” Megumi snorted, recalling the rows of photo books on the living room bookshelf when he was young.  “Dozens, at least.  It was like he couldn’t commit a thing to memory, always had to document everything”
When he was young, it was obnoxious to always have a camera shoved in his face.  Now though, he wonders if the crazy bastard still had those albums.
“That’s sweet,” (y/n) muses, wandering off a bit to check out a display of gourds, all varying in shapes and colors.  “I bet there’s tons of embarrassing ones of you, too” She teases.
Megumi doesn’t give her an answer, instead silently watching as she picks up a large green vegetable with a curly top.  She holds the long end in her hand, before turning to face Megumi with the plump end out, holding it like it was a very deformed gun.
He rolls his eyes at the joke, but just as she looks away, he snaps a photo.
(y/n) seems to not even notice, setting the gourd back on the display and turning back to Megumi to continue their conversation.
“Was he a scrapbook mom?”
He chuckles, and he wants to deny it, but he can’t.  Even if he tried he thinks she’d see through it with how he smiles with all of his teeth.  She’s laughing before he even explains.
“He made one scrapbook, ever,” He tells her.  “And you have to swear to never tell them this,” He adds quickly.  (y/n) doesn’t have to ask to know who he means, and she simply drags her thumb and forefinger over her lips as if to zip them up.  “It took him weeks.  I think the kitchen table was covered in all of his crafts for a solid month”
“You’re kidding!” She laughs louder, loving the image of her mentor hunched over a table while he glued down photos and ribbon to pretty sheets of paper.
“I wish I was.  I think it’s why he only ever made one,” Megumi shrugged.  “But it’s… a lot.  Every sheet was three dimensional.  The spine of the scrapbook was stretched so wide the thing couldn’t even sit flat”
He knows that all of the pictures in that book would be embarrassing now.  Gojo liked to document every first— first day of school, first science project, first A+, along with more ridiculous milestones, like when Megumi chopped all of his hair off in the fifth grade and looked ridiculous.  If he remembered correctly, Gojo glued that hair in the book too, as if it were his baby hairs.  That scrapbook really should be burned, but a part of him wishes he could show her now, just to prove how messy it really is.
“I’d do anything to get my hands on it,” (y/n) sighed, almost as if she could read his mind.  “My parents did some stuff like that, but they certainly weren’t obsessive”
“Obsession is all he knows” Megumi mumbles, and he doesn’t mean to be funny, but she laughs, and it makes his chest feel warm.
“I still think it’s sweet,” She assures him, and then she stops in their slow and aimless walk, kneeling down to tie the shoelaces on her boot.  Megumi waits beside her.  He cared much more for her company than he did seeing the pumpkin patch.  “He probably just wanted to save lots of memories of you guys when you were little.  All parents say it goes by fast”
She goes to tie the other boot, and Megumi can only stand there in soft surprise.  Sure, deep down he always considered Gojo his parent, because he simply just was.  But no one else referred to their relationship that way, the others always called him teacher or mentor.  But (y/n) must’ve understood that it was more than that.
He’s pulling his camera out again and stealing another quick picture while she was still focused on her shoes.
When she stands, he’s got the camera tucked back into his pocket and an innocent look on his face.
“Want to take a picture over there?” She asks, pointing to the tower of hay bales set up mostly for photos.  Originally it was for children to climb and play on, but it’s purpose was far more often served as a posing station.
Megumi simply nods, and follows her as she races over the tower.  It shouldn’t have surprised him when she started climbing the thing right away.  Surely Nobara had been over here earlier, striking a pose with one hand on her hip and the other on the stack of hay, but not (y/n), who was almost to the top.
“You’re not gonna fall, right?” Megumi asks unsurely as she’s grabbing at the highest bale.
“I’m a trained athlete!” She shrieks back, clearly offended.
“I’m more worried about you destroying the play area” Megumi retorted, his lip curling upwards against his will.  He can’t help but take a picture before she’s settled.  Her hair’s a mess and her limbs are everywhere as she tries to steady herself on the wobbling tower, but it’s a perfect picture nonetheless.
“This is great!” She shouts back at him, before stretching her hands above her head.  “Take my photo like this!”
It’s silly, it’s childish, but Megumi’s laughing to himself as he snaps a couple.
Somehow she manages to climb down without toppling the entire thing, and they quickly make their way across the pumpkin patch before an employee could scold them for being grown adults playing on the children’s setup.
Megumi finds it easier to talk with her the longer they walk around, aimlessly eyeing pumpkins without committing to picking any out, taking photos here and there, but mostly they just wander around and talk.  Yuji and Nobara seem so wrapped up in the full on photoshoot they were having with each other that it could seem like they’d completely forgotten the other pair, but Megumi didn’t mind one bit.
Hang outs never turned out like this.  Nobara tended to cling to (y/n) like a lifeline.  She was always dragging her off to the next boutique on the strip or game in the arcade or exhibit at the museum— wherever they went, it seemed as soon as Megumi would get a minute of alone time with her, Nobara would steal her away.  It was deflating, but he couldn’t be mad, they were best friends after all.
Today was like a gloomy day miracle.  He almost felt spoiled having the last half hour with her all to himself.  All of her laughter and smiles were only for him.  It warmed up his chilled hands until soon, even the breeze wouldn’t make him shiver.
(y/n) didn’t appear to have the same effect, shaking like a leaf every time the wind picked up.  She always shrank into the collar of her coat and shoved her hands into her pockets, and after a few times, Megumi couldn’t stand to see her freezing.
“Let’s go inside for a bit,” He nodded his head towards the small shop.  (y/n) pouted back at him, before glancing around the pumpkin patch, clearly looking for their friends.  “They won’t be upset that we went inside because we’re cold,” Megumi chuckles to himself, before gently pushing his hand against the small of her back so that he’d follow her.  “I’ll text Itadori” He adds for good measure.
After a moment of hesitation she agreed and walked along with him, but just slow enough that he left his hand on her lower back.  Just because it was nice to be so close to him.
Stepping into the shop was an instant rush of fresh warm air, and she finally felt like she could stretch her fingers.  There was a small bakery inside with only a couple of tables, but without anyone else inside it was perfectly quaint to warm up in.
“I’m going to order a hot chocolate, do you want anything?”
The offer was sweet, but she’s already making her way to the counter, set on a mission as soon as the alluring smell of apples and cinnamon wafted past her nose.
“I could go for a coffee” Megumi hummed as he followed.
He’s ordering for the both of them as soon as a clerk arrives behind the counter, two drinks along with the enormous bear claw in the glass case that (y/n) hadn’t torn her eyes away from since stepping up to the counter.  She tries to fight him when he pulls out his wallet but he’s faster at tapping his card to the reader than she is at hitting him.
Even once they sit down with their drinks and the pastry that takes up most of the table space between them, she argues with him about the payment, and all he can do is shake his head— and maybe smile to himself just a little bit.  After realizing arguing is futile, she decides that as long as he eats some of the bear claw, she can forgive him.
And they continue to chat, about dumb things, about nothing, about everything.  Megumi learns all about the book series that she is reading, along with her plans for getting promoted faster, and that her dream pet is a sugar glider.
“That’s ridiculous,” He mumbles through a mouthful of almond paste and cinnamon.  “When would you ever have the time to take care of something like that?”
“That’s why it’s a dream pet, dummy,” (y/n) rolls her eyes at him.  “Doesn’t have to be realistic.  Don’t you have a dream pet?”
“I kinda already have a lot of pets”
“Oh, right,” She laughs to herself, and he thinks he can see a hint of a blush dusting over her cheeks.  Was she embarrassed? He wasn’t sure exactly.  But it was really cute.  “Well if there’s ever a sugar glider shikigami, please summon it for me” She tells him in all seriousness, and Megumi bites his tongue as he agrees to the condition immediately.
He pulls out his camera for the tenth time that day and rests his elbows on the table as he brings it to his face.  (y/n’s) eyes widen before she’s covering half her face with one hand.
“Are you taking a picture of me right now?” She hisses anxiously, before shaking her head at him.
“Duh” He mutters out as he tilts forward and back, trying to find just the right angle of lighting.
“I’m eating—”
“So? Not like you have food on your face.  Hush.  Go back to eating or something”
“I am not letting you take a picture of me while I eat”
“Alright then just sit there then”
She’s grabbing her paper cup of hot cocoa to use as a shield, but it’s too late.  Megumi clicks the button and she can hear the soft whirring coming from inside the camera.
The lens cuts to black and Megumi pulls the camera away, eyeing the little roll of numbers next to the lens.
“I’m out already,” He says, tossing it onto the table.  “Guess I win”
(y/n) laughs to herself.
“I didn’t know this was a competition,” She takes a sip of her warm beverage before setting it back down.  “But I can’t believe you finished before me”
“How many do you have left?”
Curiously, (y/n) pulls the camera out of her pocket and eyes the tape with the amount of film left.  She frowns as she looks back up at him.
“Just one,” She answers, and her frown tilts into a small, soft smile before she asks, “Do you want to take one together?”
___
Greedily, Nobara snatches the stack of freshly printed photos out of Megumi’s hands.  (y/n) and Yuji are too busy sharing theirs with each other, and Nobara had been dying to know what photos Megumi and (y/n) had taken on their last outing.  By the time the group had met up and gone home, their cameras were already full, and she knew she hadn’t been the subject of a single one of them.
“I swear Fushiguro if these are all dumb pictures of pumpkins, I’ll—”
But her threat falls short after sliding through the first three pictures.
The first was (y/n) on the path, just standing and smiling.  It wasn’t special, there wasn’t even a pumpkin in the background, but it was cute.
The second was a picture of her crouched down and tying her shoe.  Her face wasn’t even in the picture, her hair was hanging in front of it, but if you squinted you could barely make out the tip of her nose.
Then the third was another candid, where she was pretending to hold a gourd like a gun.
“What the—?”
Nobara flips through to the next one in the stack, and yet again there’s a candid of her climbing up the side of a hay bale tower.  At least that one captured her smile.  She shouldn’t have been surprised to see the fifth one in the stack was also of (y/n), this time sitting on top of the haystack victoriously
“You’ve got to be kidding me, dude”
“Okay give them back—!” Megumi tries to grab the stack of pictures from Nobara before she could keep being nosey, but she deflects fast, swiveling to turn away from him and keep skipping through the photos.
He shouldn’t have let her get her hands on them to begin with, but it was too late now.  If he caused too big of a scene, Yuji and (y/n) would notice.  He didn’t exactly want all of his pictures on display.
So Nobara kept flipping.
One was of her lifting up the tiniest of pumpkins— definitely the runt of the whole patch.  It fit in the palm of her hand but she seemed delighted by it.
The next few were just of her walking around, nothing too exciting in the frame.  Just the occasional pumpkin in the background.
There was a decent one taken from inside the shop.  (y/n) was still in the frame but her back was turned as she eyed the glass case of sweets.  Nobara could almost let Megumi off the hook for that one.  Almost.
And then the last photo was of her laughing, the blurry image of a paper cup waving in the space beside her face.  Her eyes are on the camera, so she must’ve known he was taking that picture, but judging by the surprise in her expression, it was easy to conclude she was trying to hide behind that cup.
Once she’d ogled every picture, Nobara finally turned back to Megumi.  Her brows twitched and furrowed, lips parted in shock, not a single word spoken as she handed the stack back to him.  It’s practically shoved towards him, but he doesn’t complain, just snatches them back as fast as he can.
He wants to find a way to quickly and discreetly ask her to keep this to herself, but before he can find the words, she’s gawking at him again.
“Every single one?” Nobara asks in a mutter.
“We hung out the whole time, okay? It's not like—” Megumi tries to defend himself, but it’s no use.  Nobara’s already speaking over him again.
“It’s almost pathetic, dude.  Just ask her out like a normal person”
His brows almost raise to his hairline in shock.  Here he thought she was about to call him out for being a creep or something.  But no, her disgust only lied in his pathetic pining and lack of action.  Maybe he should have assumed that already.
He doesn’t get the chance to say anything before Nobara’s marching over to Yuji and demanding to see his photos as well.  Megumi’s left reeling from the whole interaction, the humiliation still lingering in his gut.
The feeling remains as (y/n) makes her way to him, her own fresh stack of photos in her hands.  There’s a nervous sort of smile on her face as she glances back at Yuji and Nobara, double checking that they were out of earshot.
“They took that pretty seriously, huh?” Her voice was still low, careful not to draw the attention of their rambunctious friends.  “Yuji takes great photos, don’t get me wrong.  But I think she should pay him for his time”
There’s some relief in his chest when he cracks a smile, a small laugh coming out.  He could only imagine the quality of Nobara and Yuji’s photos, certainly prepped for instagram.
“I bet she still puts filters over all of them” He mutters back, and (y/n) stifles a giggle behind her hand, but nods her head in agreement.
“Can we leave now or what?” Nobara calls out, already dragging Yuji by the arm to leave the store.  “I want to get boba before home”
“Boba sounds good,” (y/n) agrees softly.  “Let’s go”
As the red head continued to drag her friend despite him arguing that he was an adult who could walk by himself, she turned and aggressively whispered something to him.  After her obvious threatening, she glances back at (y/n) and Megumi, which Yuji promptly follows her pointed glance.  Suddenly after that he was upright and speed walking along with her.
(y/n) and Megumi share a baffled look as their friends so blatantly ditch them, but they don’t exactly pick up the pace to follow.
“So, did you get good photos?” Megumi asks, tucking his own away in his pocket.  Foolishly, he hoped if they were out of sight she wouldn’t ask him about them.
“Oh,” (y/n) chuckles nervously, holding her stack of pictures in both hands.  She tilts them towards herself so he can’t see, and Megumi raises a brow at the secrecy.  “It’s kind of embarrassing, actually” She says sheepishly.
Her cheeks flood with color, and Megumi can’t help the curious grin that begins to stretch across his face.
“Embarrassing?” He repeats, sounding horrifically hopeful.  (y/n) sighs, and sticks her arm out, handing him the stack.  He’s quick to take them and start flipping through, eyeing her anxious demeanor in his peripheral vision.
“Yuji’s probably going to tell you anyway.  But… they’re sort of all..”
His steps slow further after quickly sliding through the bunch of pictures.
The first was at the entrance of the pumpkin patch, with the cute sign with the family name painted on it, and just under it was him.  He wasn’t paying attention, and quite frankly he looked rather bored standing there.  She must’ve taken it while he was still pouting about having to go.
The next photo was of the sparrow poking at the rotted pumpkin, and he had to admit the way she captured it actually was sort of cute.
The third was the photo Megumi dreaded seeing.  He recognized it as soon as he saw himself standing on the thin path of dirt.  He grimaced as he looked closer to see just how bad it was.  But to his surprise, he wasn’t scowling like he thought he’d been.  He was actually smiling.
Which was odd… he certainly didn’t remember smiling for that picture.  He clearly remembered being upset because he hadn’t tried to look nice for her picture at all.
He glances at (y/n) to gauge her reaction so far, but she was holding her expression at a neutral state, waiting for him to react first.
So Megumi goes back to the photos, and flips to the next one.  Which was… also him.  It wasn’t anything special, just him standing there, but he was smiling a little bit in that one, too.
When the following is also a candid of him with that dumb little smile, he glances over at (y/n) again, raising a brow at her in silent question.
She’s a tough one to crack, but the corner of her lips gives her away as she tries to bite back a smile.  His own smile is unable to be hidden as he flips through a few more photos.
And to his shock and delight, they’re all him.  Him while he was picking up that big pumpkin she dared him to, him while he was drinking his coffee and not paying attention, him just standing and doing nothing in particular, but for whatever reason, she’d used up all her film on capturing it.
His favorite is the one of the both of them.  She’d given him the camera so he could stretch his arm out and snap the photo selfie style.  They’re sitting at the small table, two paper cups and the enormous bear claw between them, but pushed aside as (y/n) leans across the tabletop in order to better center herself.  She’s grinning from ear to ear, her chin set in one hand while the other holds up a peace sign.  Megumi’s smile isn’t as wide but nevertheless it’s genuine, and anyone looking at the picture would know.  It’s a great picture of the two of them, and he thinks it’s probably the first, too.
Megumi hadn’t realized he’d gone through the whole stack till he flips to the next one and is met with the first photo, but once he does, (y/n’s) quick to reach out and take them back.  She doesn’t snatch them as aggressively as Nobara had, she handles them gently, careful not to leave an ugly smudge or crease.
Megumi watches with eager intrigue as she tucks the edges together neatly, making the stack smooth in her hands.
“Sorry if that’s creepy— is that creepy?” She turns to him suddenly, full of worry that she’d crossed a line, but Megumi just chuckles, and shakes his head at her.
“Not creepy” He muses, his soft smile remaining as he dips his hand into his pocket, retrieving his own small collection of photos.
He stares at them for an indecisive minute, clenching and unclenching his jaw, working up the courage to make the smallest of gestures.  When he does hold them out to her, he still doesn’t say a thing.  His throat is too dry and hot to even try.  He thinks it would be worse if his voice cracked right now.
(y/n) smiles as she tucks her pictures away in her purse with great care so that she could better look through the pictures he’d taken.  His face flushes with color when she finally takes them from him.  Even the small brush of the tips of her fingers against his has Megumi’s breath catching in his throat.
And he holds his breath as she eagerly slides through the stack of photos.  His throat is far too constricted now to show any sign of life.  He very well could pass out at any moment.  He just hopes she’d leave him there in a heap on the ground.
The relief of the exhale doesn’t come until she begins to giggle.  It’s soft at first, almost under her breath as she continues admiring his photos, but then it erupts into something brilliant and bubbly, as if it was coming out of her uncontrollably.  As lovely as the reaction was, it didn’t do much to ease Megumi’s nerves.  They began to sink their teeth into his heart and gut, and he knew that any minute now, his knees would give out.
When her laughter calms down and she finally looks up at him, the surprise is evident on his features when he sees her colored cheeks and nervous smile.  She hands the stack back to him, and Megumi’s quick to tuck them into his pocket, where maybe he they’d disappear forever, or at least just from the front of their minds.
“That’s pretty cute, huh?” She asks, an aftershock of quiet laughter shaking her shoulders and crinkling the corners of her eyes.  This time, Megumi can’t help the way he laughs with her, but he does duck his head bashfully.
(y/n) thinks it’s all the more cuter, how he resorts to his nervous habit of rubbing the back of his neck and looking anywhere but directly at her.  She wonders if he even knows he’s doing it.  With a surge of confidence, she rocks on her feet.
“Wanna ditch our friends and get lunch or something?”
He shrugs and nods, thinking anything would be better sustenance than the too-sugary drinks that Nobara had an addiction to.  But the implication of the question dawns on him too late, and suddenly his eyes are widening as he realizes what she really meant.
“You mean— like, a date?”
It’s so damn cute the way his brows furrow and then raise ever so slightly, waiting without a single ounce of patience for her clarification.  (y/n’s) giggling again as she nods her head, putting him out of his misery.
“Yeah, like a date,” She repeats teasingly.
Megumi nods his head again, this time faster, as if there was a time limit to her offer and he was worried he’d already wasted too much of it.  Her smile brightens and there’s a small but noticeable skip in her step as they head off in a new direction together.
“Now maybe it won’t be so creepy when our friends see those pictures” She says, and Megumi can’t decipher if she’s messing with him or not.  The look he gives her barely hides his panic.
“They’re gonna see them?”
“What do you think they’re talking about right now?” (y/n) retorts, knowing for a fact that Yuji and Nobara were gossiping away about the pair’s photos that consisted only of each other.
The thought makes Megumi’s face feel hot, and there’s no discretion in the way he tugs at his collar.  The idea makes him nervous, his stomach flipping excessively.  That said, he knew with the amount of gossip those two chatterboxes would generate, there was plenty of time to add a date to today’s agenda.
“They probably won’t even notice we’re gone”
(y/n) nods in agreement.
“They’ll be grateful to have the time for girl talk,” She teases.
With purpose, she steps closer to him so she could link her arm around his, tucking her hand into the crook of his elbow and shyly smiling up at him.  Megumi returns the smile, his arm hooking a little further to keep her tucked next to him as close as he wanted.  It was another chilly day outside, but he could almost forget about it with the way her closeness sparked warmth in his chest that flooded throughout his whole body.  He hoped he’d get to do this for the rest of their day—
“So… where do we want to go?”
—and more days to come. ___

A/N: hello lovely anon! my requests are actually closed but………… i really liked this idea 😮 sooo i wrote it anyways!! i really really love big brother peter 🥺 and i tried to make this as fluffy as can be! enjoy 💕
It was the dreamiest afternoon, a heavy blanket of clouds pushing away the last sunrays of summer as autumn made itself known. As you napped in your crib, Peter and Bucky were enjoying a movie on tv, curled up on the big couch in the living room. Steve had left on an errand to the grocery store, suddenly inspired by the overcast weather to cook a cozy meal for his family. A scented candle on the shelf in the corner filled the room with warmth, and Bucky took deep breaths as he stroked Peter’s hair, filing away this perfect moment in his mind to look back on whenever he needed to remember just how safe his life was now. He tried to ignore the phone buzzing in his pocket, silently cursing whoever was trying to disturb his heaven, but when the notifications continued to flood in, he reluctantly answered the call.
Peter sat up as Bucky maneuvered to retrieve his phone, the sudden movement of his favorite pillow pulling the kiddo from the brink of an unplanned nap. Peter looked up at his Baba as he answered the phone, furrowing his brows as Bucky sighed. On the other end, Steve lightly chided his husband for not answering sooner, before letting him know that he was currently stranded at the store, the family car unresponsive in the parking lot. Bucky reassured Steve that he’d be right there, running a tired hand over his face as he hung up the phone and picked up the baby monitor that showed your nursery. The video showed you still fast asleep in your crib, pacifier half fallen out of your mouth. Mentally calculating the time it would take to reach the store and back, Bucky decided it wasn’t worth disturbing your nap for an errand that would hopefully be over before you even woke up to notice he was gone.
“What’s wrong, Baba?” Peter spoke up. There was anxiety in his voice, but not very much; he could tell it must not be an emergency if Bucky was so calm.
“Daddy’s car broke and I have to go pick him up from the store.” Bucky tried not to sound too annoyed.
“Can I come?” Peter asked eagerly, but Bucky shook his head.
“Not this time, pumpkin. I need you to be a big boy and take care of the house while I’m gone. Don’t answer the door for anyone and try not to wake up your sister, okay baby?”
Peter nodded enthusiastically, thrilled to be assigned a mission - even if that mission was just to stay put on the couch and not get into trouble.
With a kiss to the top of the spider boy’s head, Bucky was out the door, wanting more than anything to get this done as quickly as possible. Peter stared at the door for what felt like ages after it had closed behind his Baba, counting down the minutes until his return. And then he heard your cry from the baby monitor speaker.
Your precious slumber was interrupted, your peaceful dreams morphing into a heart stopping nightmare, almost as if you could sense your Baba’s absence and your Daddy’s distress. Tossing and turning, you ripped your way out of the cocoon of sleep, letting out a choked sob as you desperately tried to rejoin the waking world. You opened your eyes into the darkness, anxiously staring at your nursery door, almost mentally willing it to burst open and your daddies to come rushing in. But when the door finally did open, it was tentative, and the figure you saw illuminated by the hall light was not who you expected.
Peter rushed towards you as soon as he saw your desperate face. He reached through the bars of your crib to hold your hand as he reassured you were safe, big brother was here and he wasn’t gonna let anything hurt you. But it was no use, you just kept thrashing and crying out.
“Daddy! Baba!!” You wailed, needing more than anything just to be wrapped in their big strong arms, protected from anything and everything that could come your way.
Peter crouched down so his face was level with yours, wanting more than anything just to comfort you.
“Daddies aren’t here right now, but it’s okay, I got you!” Peter reassured you, and although you stopped fighting and let your body calm down, your tears still didn’t stop.
“Baba…” You sobbed, your chest heaving up and down with nervous breaths.
“Can I get you out of your crib?” Peter asked, his hand already on the latch.
You nodded and Peter let down the bars of the crib, helping you down onto the carpeted floor. He held your hand all the way as he led you back to the living room, his protective heart breaking as he heard you sob behind him. He brought you to the couch and helped you onto it, making sure you were comfy and stable, knowing you were particularly small at the moment. Peter wrapped you in a plush throw blanket and grabbed the nearest stuffed animal, tucking it into the blanket with you.
“I gotta go to the kitchen, okay?” He asked, and your eyes widened. “Don’t worry, though, I’ll be right back!”
You watched him all the while he zoomed around the corner into the kitchen, never leaving your line of sight as he ran to the fridge and pulled out a premade bottle. Taking the lid off, he put it in the microwave for less than a minute, just enough to bring it around room temperature, and as an added courtesy, he even made sure to open the microwave door before it could beep too loudly.
Just as quickly as he’d rushed into the kitchen, Peter was right back by your side, climbing up onto the couch to join you. He wrapped an arm around your blanketed body, leaning you into him as he brought the lukewarm bottle to your lips. With tears still in your eyes, you drank. The warm milk filling your belly brought your mind into focus, and your breathing steadied with each sip. With the hand that wasn’t already clutched around your stuffie, you reached out to Peter, gripping his pointer finger with your whole hand. The more you calmed down, the more your brother did as well, now confident in his ability to take care of you. You weren’t even halfway through with the bottle when you heard a familiar key in the front door lock.
Your milk drunk eyes flew open, laser focused on the door as it opened to reveal your two favorite people in the whole world. Peter dropped the bottle, but you’d already forgotten about your post-nap snack, your only care in the world was getting into your daddies’ arms as quickly as possible. Your arms reached out, fingers flexing out at Steve and Bucky, desperate for them to finish bringing in the groceries, locking the door, taking off their shoes. It felt like it was taking forever.
“Well look who’s awake!” Steve’s eyes lit up at the sight of you, just about as eager as you were to have you in his arms. He relieved you from Peter’s lap, and you gripped his shirt up in your fists, burying your face into his neck and breathing in his comforting scent. Peter was left to look up at Bucky, studying his face to try and figure out what he was thinking.
“I’m sorry Baba.” He apologized preemptively, just in case Bucky was mad at your nap ending prematurely.
“Sorry about what, kiddo? You didn’t wake her up on purpose, did you?”
Peter shook his head rigorously, hoping to convey to his Baba that he’d never do that.
“Then you have nothing to be sorry for, okay baby boy? In fact, it looks like you did a pretty good job holding down the fort while we were gone. I’m so proud of you.” Bucky said, picking up Peter and joining you and Steve in the kitchen where the ingredients for that night’s special dinner were all spread out on the counter.
“Yea! Luv oo!” You chimed in, and Peter grinned the widest you’d ever seen him.

Autumn Delight
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: DI!Leon x fem!reader
Summary: As you cook to welcome the change in season, your daughter plays grocery shopping with her father.
WC: 2.1k
Notes: After reading @cinnarette write for girl dad!Leon, I wanted to add on to the hype and do some fluff because that man deserves it and I want him happy. Also I know I said Death Island Leon for this one, but I imagine him older. Anyways, enjoy, I had a lot of fun writing this one. Reblogs & comments are always appreciated.
Tumblr media
The sun shined through the window as you hummed to yourself, the pot in front of you blowing off steam and filling the kitchen with the aroma of sweet tomatoes and fresh herbs. The scent felt nostalgic, like a soft weighted blanket that reminded you of what your mom would make for dinner after you came home from school.
The season was slowly transitioning into autumn now, a more prominent breeze shaking the leaves as they began to change color from their vibrant greens to shades of orange and dark red. Warm air now starting to cool down every passing day, tank tops and shorts exchanged for sweat pants and cotton crew necks. Soon enough, it’ll be time to go apple picking and welcome all things pumpkin, you mostly looked forward to having apple cider come back in stock at your local grocery store.
A loaf of fresh sourdough bread rested in front of you, already knowing the cheese you needed for this meal was cooling in the fridge, ready to be melted to your heart’s delight. Grilled cheese and tomato soup were on the menu tonight, a nice hearty meal to welcome the first day of fall. You covered the pot of tomato soup, letting it simmer for a while longer. As you were ready to step to the side and tend to other tasks, you heard rambling on the upper floor of your townhouse, already knowing where the source of the noise was coming from.
Stepping out of the kitchen entirely, you went up the stairs, careful not to be too loud as your slippers moved over the hardwood steps. Walking down the hallway of the second floor, you continued until you were met with the white door to your left, wide open for you to take in the view inside.
Your husband was on his knees, surrounded by pastel green walls and soft carpet. Toys were all over the floor, a Barbie dollhouse in one corner of the room and a plastic play kitchen in the other. You leaned against the doorway and let out a snort, trying not to draw attention to the 3-year-old who walked around her bedroom with purpose. The man’s eyes were drawn to yours at the sound of your laughing, vibrant blues paired with soft wrinkles on the rounded corners of his gaze. A pearly white grin came your way, one that drew you to him all those years ago.
“You know, this place is quite small. Limited options”, Leon said, pushing a toy shopping cart that was comically small against him and skimming the shelf in front of him. He tilted his head to the side, finger on his chin as he thought heavily about what to grab next. Of course, he took this decision seriously, looking at the plastic toys resembling different foods from fake cereal boxes to ketchup bottles and eggs.
He reached forward and took a can of tuna, putting it in the cart and moving along. The cart was already full of a few things, plastic fruits and vegetables that were completely necessary. You watched him move around, going to the mini-kitchen that was set up on one side of the room.
“A drumstick in the sink? This is such a safety hazard for a grocery store”, Leon grumbled, knowing his daughter was right behind him, watching him diligently like a good sales associate. Her matching dirty blonde hair and blue eyes looked over him as he reached for the misplaced doll currently folded in the tiny microwave. He tried his hardest not to laugh, putting the doll back where he found it and gave you a glance.
Leon continued to shift around the room, finding plastic cookies on the floor and throwing them in the buggy with dramatic flare. He leaned down on the ground and found more toys littering around him. Grapes were underneath the toddler bed, toy crackers were in the hot tub in the dollhouse, and singular hot dog sausages were thrown in every nook and cranny imaginable.
Just looking at the room was stress-inducing, but the agent didn’t have the heart to be mad or irritated. If anything he was glad to have a mess like this to deal with in the first place. Had someone told him years ago he’d be happily married in a townhouse he bought with a three year old daughter that was his carbon copy, he’d laugh in their face. The image of having a loving family was a dream he had thrown away after the horrors he witnessed at 21. Being exposed to such monstrosities almost fully turned him away from ever thinking of having something more in his life besides fighting manmade monsters. He never thought he’d be able to have a life worth living outside of survival.
That was until miraculously, he bumped into you when he went to try a new cafe that opened in town. Years later having regained that dream he buried deep in his subconscious, he gets to be in a home full of love he never thought he’d get to experience. He has a reason to wake up every day, something and someone to fight for, and he wouldn’t take that for granted.
Leon shook his head and blinked at the sound of your voice, your eyes looking over him once or twice already knowing what happened. He zones out less as he gets older, but it still happens from time to time. Before, his memories used to haunt him, the traumas and burdens he carried would make his nervous system go haywire and put him in a constant state of paranoia. Now, he has moments where he’s reminiscing about his past and feels gratitude instead of self-hatred or fear. You didn’t mind, you accepted all parts of Leon with open arms, even the parts he couldn’t accept himself, and if it weren’t for your support lord knows where he’d be now.
“Hm?”, he hummed, giving you a look and silently admiring you like he often did, as if you were his guardian angel sent to ground him to this current reality.
“I asked if you could pick up some ice cream on your shopping trip”, you told him softly, your daughter now distracted and leaving her post at her fake cash register to collect all of the individual chip pieces she could find.
“Thanks for reminding me hun”, Leon said now returning to the present, shuffling to another part of the room to look for the ice cream pieces. He could only find the plastic waffle cone, not the strawberry ice cream scoop. With a shrug, he put it in the shopping cart as you held in your giggle with a bite of your lip.
Finally facing his daughter, he pushed the cart towards where she stood. Out of the kindness of his heart, he helped the toddler scan and swipe the toys, her small grabby hands reaching for whatever food item he gave her. It was moments like this you enjoyed the most, seeing just how much Leon loves the child you both created and how he treats her like the center of his universe. She’ll never fully understand just how much her dad cares for her, pure unconditional love if you ever saw it.
You couldn’t be more proud to see Leon become the father he never had, and the man he’s always wanted to be.
Leon now started to talk with his mini-twin, giving her sassy remarks as her tiny fingers threw the things she scanned back into his cart rather aimlessly.
“What? No bag? You’ve got to be kidding me”, he teased, playing the part of an angry customer all too well for your child to realize. She wagged a finger at him and pressed the button of the scanner towards his face, a beep sounding through the room as she did. She responded to him with an equal amount of sass, making you snicker under your breath and Leon had to bite his tongue so he didn’t follow you. Not only did your child inherit her father’s most noticeable features, she also got his corniness and attitude.
She continued to scan and beep all of the items until there was nothing left to pass, looking up at Leon with her hand out and demanding him to give the money for his groceries.
“Do you have change for a 20?”, Leon spoke, making you shake your head in disbelief at how dedicated he was in playing his role. He had a fake $20 bill he borrowed from the monopoly board sitting on the coffee table of your living room.
“Mine”, his daughter nodded with a bubbly giggle. She snatched the bill from Leon’s hand with enthusiasm, pressing some buttons on her cash register before the drawer opened with a ding. She pushed the bill inside and closed the drawer with no change in her hand. Leon only gave her a raised eyebrow.
“Wow. Is this how you treat your customers? You know what, I’m just going to go to Trader Joe’s down the block”, Leon playfully threw a hissy fit, making the 3-year-old laugh as she waved at her father and mumbled bye bye.
The blonde got up from his knees with a grunt, walking up towards you and pulling you in by the hips with a smile. Leaning down he kissed you on the cheek, then on the tip of your nose, and finally on your lips as you hummed against him, putting a hand on his chest and the other rubbing the back of his neck. It was an occurring routine of kissing he started years ago when you were still dating, all beginning the day he asked you to officially be his partner.
“You know our daughter is really starting to be more like you every time I see her. I’m getting scared, one of you is enough”, you taunted him, making him chuckle. You couldn’t help but stroke his stubbled cheek, loving the feel of the coarse hairs against your fingers.
“C’mon, you know you can’t get enough of me. I’m not that bad”, he grinned, offering you a corny wink that made you roll your eyes.
“Yeah yeah, whatever helps you sleep at night”
“I sleep just fine knowing you’re right next to me sweetheart”, he openly flirted with you, a sneaky hand coming towards your rear and giving you a playful tap. “You’re cooking aren’t you?”
“Mhm, grilled cheese and tomato soup, all from scratch”, you told him, noticing how his ears perked up at the sound of cooked food. You learned early on in your relationship that Leon was a foodie and preferred home-cooked dishes above anything else. So you made sure to get your clutches on him by making him some Tuscan chicken pasta, aka marry me pasta, on your 7th dinner date together. Safe to say, he hasn’t left since.
“God I love you”, he declared so frankly and so often that you knew he meant it. You never questioned his devotion to you, and you can tell from the way he says it as if it’ll be the last time that it’s always sincere.
“I know, you would go hungry without me. I love you too”, giving him another kiss on his lips and letting him savor it.
You heard a tiny voice coming towards you both, something yanking on Leon’s jeans by the shin and forcing him to pull away from you for a minute. He looked down at the smaller blonde, cerulean eyes matching his own like a reflection of himself.
“Yeah sweet pea, what’s up?”, he turned towards her, reaching down to pick her up in his strong arms like he usually did. “You want some of mommy’s food too?”
“Yes! Sammi!”, it slipped out of her mouth, clapping to herself as she got excited at the mere idea of eating whatever was being made. She was always eager to eat, finding joy in the way she gripped her small spork and made a mess of herself with crumbs on her soft cheeks.
A passionate food lover, just like him.
“Hell yeah. Grilled cheese sammi and tomato soup. Let’s go help mommy cook”, Leon said, carrying his baby girl in his arms and marching down the stairs, allowing you to hear her laugh intertwining with his own. You followed them down the steps, watching your husband tickle your daughter’s tummy, beaming from ear to ear.
A warmth fluttered in your chest, silently watching the way they’d talk and interact with one another that would have anyone think they were the same person. You smiled again, going to the stove to stir the pot of tomato soup before you started on the grilled cheese sandwiches.
You don’t know how you got here to have all that you did in your life, but you wouldn’t change an absolute thing.

Note: HAPPY HALLOWEEN and welcome back to the Store Manager Verse. I actually wanted to be further along with my chronological releases but it just never happened. This one is definitely probably one of the best timed releases with the holiday but there's a minor note that there's...maybe a reference to a yet-to-be published installation of the story. Eddie and SM are gonna be going on a little road trip at some point and will meet some of SM's family. DONT EVEN WORRY ABOUT IT FOR NOW. Just enjoy the shenanigans.
You can find my masterlist here for more featuring our resident Store Manager and all of my other writing.
Please do not interact if you are not 18+.
Enjoy!

"You look cute today."
"Thanks!"
"You need to look less cute next week. We're doing zombies, remember?"
"Got it."
Every day.
"Did you pick up that fake blood from Melvalds like you promised?"
"Yeah it's at home."
"Ok great because...because I was a little afraid you were gonna forget about our plans."
"Don't worry Eddie."
He reminded you every day.
"Ok so we're meeting at Gareth's at 4 on Thursday."
"Alright I'll be there."
"No, uh, glitter makeup? We're going for realism. Shock and awe."
"I swear to god!"
Every day for an entire week, whether he was scheduled to work or not, Eddie showed up at Star Court to remind you that you had promised to go Trick or Treating with him and his friends.
It was cute endearing.
October--and more specifically Halloween--was one of your favorite times of the year at work. It was laid back and fun. No pressure from either Back to School or the Holiday rush, you could "dress up" with little costume pieces or fun makeup every day, and you could have a bowl of candy at the cash wrap that made everyone's day a little bit brighter.
And outside of work, you'd really embraced the season.
Correction, Eddie made you embrace the season.
Before moving to Hawkins, Halloween had always been incredibly...commercial. Costumes and decorations from the little seasonal aisle at the drugstore. The biggest display of candy at the grocery store that you needed to stock up on unless you wanted your house egged.
And your social life consisted, mainly, of outings with your coworkers. Pumpkin patches and haunted hayrides almost always became team building activities. That wasn't to say your coworkers--new and old--weren't your friends too.
But with Eddie...it was different.
A harvest festival outside of Muncie, horror movies late at night during a thunderstorm, warm apple cider at Merrill's Farm while looking for gourds that were shaped like your heads. Pumpkin carving on the porch at the trailer, cutting out bats and cats from black construction paper, and now Trick or Treating with his friends.
You thought, early on in your friendship, that it was just some throw away comment. But knowing him as well as you did now, you realized that he really meant everything he said.
Every promise was purposeful, especially when it came to the people he cared about. Which was why you were sure he was determined to make the night perfect. Not only for you, but for everyone.
Especially the handful of little sheep that were newcomers to Hellfire.
"The freshman," he explained on Sunday as you worked on your costumes together. "They're little turds but...I dunno, they have potential."
You'd already heard about them at the beginning of the year as Eddie gushed about his new recruits; younger brothers that Eddie sort of always wished for but was thankful he didn't actually have.
"They're not gonna think I'm some like...weird old person right?" you laughed self-consciously, thinking back to Jeff's comment when you said you wouldn't buy them beer. And sure you were not that much older than Eddie, but you were sure you were ancient to a bunch of 14-year olds.
"You're the coolest person I know. And I'm the coolest person they know."
"You saw how my brother is though," you waved your hand dismissively. Jimmy's words--who would have guessed your boyfriend's not lame like you--wouldn't stop echoing in your head though.
Boyfriend. Boyfriend. Boyfriend.
Eddie still wasn't your boyfriend.
They must have echoed in Eddie's too because his cheeks flushed and he immediately became bashful. He ducked his head into his shoulder a little bit and refused to meet your eyes as he hacked away at the sleeves of the old flannel in his hands.
"Your brother," he finally replied, "is a little turd too. I'm sure the kids will worship you. More than they worship me. I promise. Everything will be alright."
---
Before you knew it, Thursday rolled around.
You were running late to get to the Emerson's to get ready thanks to a last minute visit from your DM. Who knew that pictures of you and your team for the company-issued costume contest would take so long?
Still, to save time, you decided not to change costumes until you got to the house. Seeing as Eddie had grand plans for everyone's face paint to make them look as close to Day of the Dead as possible, you figured you would be fine.
However, you were not expecting the entire gaggle of boys to stare at you with stars in their eyes as you stepped out of your car, duffle bag full of torn old clothes and gallon of fake blood in-hand, done up like a glam metal superstar.
Or as close to it as you could get with the accessories you carried at the store. Rainbow hair extensions and glitter spray, layers of chain jewelry, and too much cheetah print.
"You," Eddie began as he pushed through the group to get to you. His face was already a ghastly pallor thanks to a layer of facepaint from melvalds, exactly as he had envisioned. "Are a traitor and a turncoat, a disgrace to the uniform, and your status as Corroded Coffin's number one fan."
"I've literally never heard you guys play," you rolled your eyes at him.
"Did my lesson about the different types of metal mean nothing to you?" he clutched a hand over his heart and then reached out and fiddled with your jewelry. "And didn't I say no glitter."
"I just need to use the bathroom to wash it all off. Then you can make me gross and moldy like you."
"It's not mold. It's rot. Get it right." You flipped him off and he grinned. "Hey sweetheart."
"Hi."
"Nice of you to finally join us."
Eddie threw an arm around your shoulders and led you into the garage. You said hi to Jeff, Gareth, and Dave, and then he introduced you to the sheep.
Mike and Lucas and Dustin and Will.
They were all a little bashful as Eddie went down the line; it was reminiscent of when you met the others, except less fun facts and more silly tidbits meant to embarrass the kids.
Will the Wise whose worst stat was intelligence. Dustin who had a girlfriend in Utah--
"She's real, I swear."
--Mike who had already gone through two new characters because he couldn't roll to save his life. Literally. And Lucas who liked sports.
"Oh my god," you scoffed at Eddie. “You make it sound like sports are a scourge."
"They are."
"You like hockey."
"I," Eddie paused. "Tolerate hockey."
You grinned triumphantly and said hello to each of the boys before ducking into the house to get changed.
"Dude, she is way out of your league." you could hear Mike whine, followed by a dull thud of a fist hitting an arm.
"That's what we've been telling him the whole time," Dave cackled.
---
Eddie and Will were the masterminds behind the zombification process--bickering back and forth about what scar went where and how gross that pus should look as they applied facepaint--but all the boys tossed in their creative input.
"Oh my god, do you still have that rubber eyeball from lunch? We can glue it to Jeff's hand."
"What if--don't touch my hair--what if we--don't touch my hair."
"More blood! More! MORE!"
Before you knew it, two hours had passed, it was dark out and gaggles of Trick-or-Treaters were already filling the streets. Gareth's mom had set herself up on the porch with a bowl full of fun-sized candy and wished you all farewell as you took off down the sidewalk.
A veritable hoard of the undead, with ripped clothes, foaming mouths, blood-soaked hands, and pillowcases to double as treat bags.
To your surprise, there was a lot more to Trick or Treating than you had initially thought. All your childhood, you'd just gone door to door for a few blocks, rang a bell, got some candy, and at the end of the night traded treats with your brothers or your friends.
To Hellfire, it was just as involved as any of their DnD campaigns. And it's how you learned more about each of the boys, and surprisingly, more about their fearless leader.
Lucas and Mike were the perfect strategists and, as you began your trek, listed off neighborhoods that gave the best candy. You got the in-depth analysis between full-size and fun-size candies, chocolate versus peanut butter versus nougat, and you made a mental note to be more mindful of the choices you put out at the cash wrap for next year.
Dustin and Eddie were the navigators mentally mapping the distances between each neighborhood and how quickly and efficiently the group could get around.
"We should have just taken the van," Eddie scoffed when Dustin suggested Loch Nora first, the furthest trek of the night.
"No, then we'll end up back at Gareth's by 10. We just need to walk fast, it'll be perfect."
"And my mom is making a casserole for dinner," Gareth piped up. "She said you're all welcome to stay."
"Why don't we end at my place," Mike suggested. "We can just hang out in the basement and my mom will order pizza."
"No one wants to sleep in your dusty ass basement Wheeler," Dave scoffed.
"We're definitely skipping school tomorrow," Eddie pointed at all of the kids. "I hope you all know that."
Dave and Jeff, much to your surprise, were the "war generals" as they so graciously called themselves. They had a few rolls of toilet paper and a carton of eggs tucked away in their pillowcases, in case they came across--
"The enemies!!!" The older boys hollered into the starry night sky, quickly earning glares from other kids and parents as they passed.
"And who would that be?" you asked. The entire group looked at you like you'd grown a second head. "I'm sorry I'm not well-versed in Halloween mischief."
"Oh it's gonna be fun corrupting you." Eddie laughed wickedly, and started ticking off examples on his fingers. "People who tell us we're too old to trick or treat."
"I thought you said no one cared!" you exclaimed.
"Most people," he clarified, "don't care. But someone called the cops on us. What was it? Last year? Year before?" He looked at the older boys for confirmation.
"Mrs. Peterson who likes to sic her dogs on the kids who get too close to her rose bushes," Lucas offered next.
"If someone has their porch light on, but doesn't answer the door."
"When someone gives raisins instead of candy," Will supplied, ignoring Dustin's quiet, I like raisins.
The list went on: people who made fun of their costumes, the one house where the guy sat on his porch and douse kids with "holy water" for engaging in devilry.
"And Jason Carver," Eddie finished with a flourish.
They all looked at you for some kind of objection...or maybe your approval? You weren't too sure.
But at your soft nod, they all whooped and hollered and a few of the younger boys even took off running so they could jump and scare some of the kids who were just minding their own business.
"See?" Eddie asked and grabbed your hand in his as you followed at the back of the group. "And you were afraid they were gonna think you were some gross old lady. They're trying to impress you."
"Impress is a stretch."
"Ah ah ah," he shook his head. "I will hear none of it. I told them all that they were to be on their best worst behavior. Make sure you have the best time. That they are mere peasants here to serve the Queen of the Undead."
You let his hand go and pushed him away from you, even though your heart beat a little faster knowing he wanted them to behave around you.
"Go before I gnaw on your brains."
"You promise?" he waggled his eyebrows at you suggestively.
"Go!"
---
It was an eventful night.
You moaned and groaned and shuffled your way across Hawkins, just like the zombies in Romero's movies, to get all sorts of sweet treats. Candy and popcorn and fresh-dipped caramel apples that someone was making in their yard in Loch Nora.
The group successfully TP'd one house, and you'd even personally egged someone's front door after they called the gang delinquents. You were not athletic in the slightest, but you hit your target dead on, and basked in the boy's gleeful war cries.
You were grateful for Eddie's suggestion of sneakers because you'd walked more in those 4 hours than you had during any Black Friday or Christmas Eve double shift in your entire career. You were sure even a day at Disneyland couldn't hold a candle to the Hellfire Club Whistle Stop Walking Candy Tour of Hawkins.
The boys all took to calling you mom pretty early in the night after you stopped Jeff from chomping into a handful of starbursts.
"Your braces," you reminded him, motioning to your teeth. "You're gonna snap a wire; you hate the orthodontist."
He groaned and all of the boys started snickering. Eddie, of course, was quick to shame him.
"Listen to your mother!"
And the nickname just stuck.
Of course Mike--who you noticed tried to emulate Eddie most out of the group of freshman--had a retort.
"If she's mom," he said smugly. "Does that mean you're dad?"
The boys all started making kissy faces and you had to laugh as Eddie got a little flustered.
After watching him flounder for a comeback, you decided to help him out, so you crossed the distance and pressed a quick peck to his cheek before you turned and shook your finger at the boys in a disappointed way.
"Next person to sass your father," you started. "And you're all grounded." They all looked a mixture of confused and worried for a second.
"What does that mean?" Lucas asked nervously.
"It means you start the next session with half of your hit points," Eddie finally recovered, voice growling in a threat. The boys all clammed up and turned to head to the next house.
"Sorry about them," he shrugged and rubbed the back of his neck.
"Nah, it's ok," you smiled reassuringly. "They meant well. Still...til death do us part, I guess."
You both froze and you started panicking.
Why had you said that?
Still, Eddie was able to make it all better. He shuffled his feet and cracked a smile, then gestured to your costumes.
"Or uh...undeath. Considering."
Still, you had butterflies in your stomach every time one of the boys called you mom and dad for the rest of the night.
---
By the time 10 rolled around, you were back at the Emerson's house. Gareth's mom greeted you all excitedly with sodas and plates of hot buffalo chicken casserole with crispy tater tots on top, and you all sat in the garage to eat and divvy up your haul.
"So," Eddie slumped on the sofa next to you at some point after dinner was finished. You were tiredly watching Lucas and Dave argue the merits of Three Musketeers versus Milky Way and glad for the distraction. "Did you have fun?"
"Of course."
"Enough to do it again next year?"
"Is this your way of telling me you guys trick or treat every year?" you joked. "Because I kind of picked up on those hints all night."
"More like...I don't know," he sniffed awkwardly. "You still planning to be my friend next year?"
"Stop asking me that," you hit the back of your hand against his chest. "If I got to see you be a big dork with your gaggle of kindergarteners--"
"Hey!" came Will and Mike's whine from a few feet away.
"--and I'm still here, nothing's gonna scare me away Eddie."
He grabbed your hand to stop you from hitting him again, but stayed silent for a moment, eyes darting back and forth between yours as his tongue worried his lip.
You got nervous the longer he hesitated to say something, and once he did, you had the sneaking suspicion it wasn't exactly what he'd really wanted to say in the first place.
You hoped it wasn't what he wanted to say. Hoped it was just something he couldn't say in front of his friends.
"Then you don't mind if we do Alien next year. And before you say anything, I think I would make a great Ripley. I already have the hair for it and I'm pretty sure I have that same underwear."
"Sure Eddie," you agreed a little stiffly. "Sounds perfect."
He smiled, but it didn't quite meet his eyes.
Still, the two of you stayed huddled together on that couch for the rest of the night, surrounded by friends.
Hands held comfortably together.

Sun’s going down, and now’s where you have two choices: turn off all the lights and go to bed right now, or light the pumpkin and set it out in invitation.
Now, I know it’s been pouring for the last three days and not a child with a lick of self-preservation is going to be out on the streets tonight.  What’s more, even if those children exist—and those children always exist, let’s be realistic here—then they’d need to have parents who were never really all that interested in having children, who just want plausible deniability when they get called down to the county coroner’s office.  No, we’re not looking to attract actual children, or we’d have needed to buy a lot more candy.
You got them, right?  Two full-sized Snickers bars, a roll of dimes, and an old Archie comic from the grocery store?  Good.  I know you promised, but a man likes to be sure, especially on a night like this.
But as I said, we’re not looking to attract actual children.  Wouldn’t know what to do with them.
We’re going to lure in a god.
She walks the world one night a year, as solid and material as any human child, just a child who goes from city to city in the process of going house to house.  She starts in Samoa and stops in New Zealand, and in-between she sees the whole world wide, like some sort of reverse Santa Claus, taking away with her.  If you’re lucky, of course.  Her bag is an infinity of toilet paper and raw eggs, her smile a gap-toothed gateway into darker realms.  She is redemption and she is damnation and she is going to choose the second on our behalf if you don’t get that pumpkin lit before she rings the bell!
She doesn’t hold grudges, but she remembers, and her memory is the long, slow memory of childhood, which never forgets the house with the good candy, or the one with the mean dog.  Her blessing will see your windows unbroken and your tomatoes untrampled by generations yet to come, and her curse…
Well.  You were thinking about moving, right?
Someone’s coming up the walk.  Light the pumpkin!
Rain or no rain, it’s always time for trick or treat.

ok! i think tumblr ate my fucking apple cider recipe post. still, my autumn equinox tradition must carry on!
Apollo's Foolproof From-Scratch Apple Cider That Was So Good It Allegedly Landed Me A Boyfriend
you will need:
12 apples (the variety is up to you, i usually do half granny smith and half whatever's on sale plus a red delicious for garnishing)
10oz raisins
cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, star anise, nutmeg, allspice, cardamom pods, any other warming spices u like (whole > ground) (follow ur heart on the amounts, it's like garlic just throw so much in there. just go wild)
1 orange
brown sugar (i don't have measurements but be prepared to use a LOT lmao, i always buy at least one 32oz bag. you'll be sweetening to taste.)
large pot with lid
potato masher (optional)
two large bowls/pots/receptacles to strain the cider into
fine mesh strainer
cheesecloth or coffee filters (optional)
apple corer or knife
citrus zester
slotted spoon or ladle
the steps:
1. scrub apples gently under hot water to remove grocery store wax coating. core apples making sure all seeds & stems are removed. add apples, raisins, and mulling spices to pot with enough water to fully cover ingredients, and bring to boil. reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1 hour.
2. scrub orange to remove wax. zest and juice, avoiding the pith & seeds. use a potato masher or other utensil to lightly mash boiled apple mixture so every apple slice is at least partially broken up, then add the zest & juice to the pot. bring back to boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for another hour. then turn off the heat and allow mixture to cool.
3. place two mesh strainers over two bowls or pots (and cover each with a cheesecloth or coffee filters, if you have them). with a slotted spoon or ladle, remove as much of the solids from the pot as you can and place them in one strainer (the larger one, if they are different sizes) to drain, then press out as much liquid into the cheesecloth as possible.
4. pour the cider from the simmer pot into the second cheesecloth and press. combine the liquid from both bowls.
5. add brown sugar to taste
cooking tips:
the times listed above are bare minimums. once all the ingredients are in the pot (minus sugar!) you can simmer as long as you want, so long as someone's nearby to supervise.
always add any sweeteners after the cooking process. otherwise, they'll burn and make the whole thing bitter.
if it's too acidic, add baking soda or more spices. if it's not acidic enough, add lemon juice, additional orange juice, or apple cider vinegar.
variations:
add 12oz fresh cranberries to the first step
sub oranges for lemons or apple cider vinegar
sub brown sugar for straight molasses, maple syrup, or alternative sweetener of your choice (I'd imagine fig or other fruit-based sweeteners would work best)
report back to me if you try something new!! i want to hear how it turned out!
serving suggestions:
add three or four cinnamon imperials (red hots) to your mug, along with a dash of fireball whiskey if you're so inclined. i cannot stress enough how fucking amazing this tastes.
garnish with apple slices, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and/or star anise
if you have dairy-free ice cream on hand, pour some cider over a scoop. you can use dairy ice cream, but it's more likely to curdle.
freeze some in an ice cube tray, then blend with some non-frozen cider for a slushie
ok I've never tried this, but i bet blending with pumpkin puree would slap. PLEASE tell me if you try it
this makes a metric fuckload of cider, which is very rich and can be watered down considerably (seriously). share with your friends and/or freeze some to last the season (or halve it, i guess, but that's no fun :P)

what do you think about azriel x autumn court reader , she is also eris’s cousin, where she is utterly obsessed with halloween/ fall and she decorates the whole house of wind with spooky decor and little pumpkins everywhere. She hides little jumpscares, yk the ones that are in grocery stores, she hides them behind closet doors so whoever opens them gets a nasty creature in their face. Like I can imagine rhysand screaming and cursing her for the jumpscare and feyre just giggles w reader
And she make everyone drink pumpkin spice stuff and claims it is a must. Reader is also in her baking era and bakes so much everyday, the second someone comes in the house, they smell delicious treats. She really channels her inner autum court girl. And during fall she really only wears her clothes from the autumn court. She gets az to visit the autumn court now that eris is high lord, and she takes him to town to drink spiced cider and caramel apples and they have the best time.😭❤️
The Last Cabin on the Left
Tumblr media
Summary - after moving to the Night Court to be with Azriel, y/n Vanserra has strived to bring an Autumn Court Tradition to your new home, and this year you've pulled out all the stops
Warnings - spooky themes, pranks, Nyx and cousins being adorable, matching couples costumes, general fluff, Azriel dressed like a pirate
A/n - I tweaked this request a little bit, and I hope that's okay 💜

Azriel smiled as the scent of candies, pumpkin, and apple cider hit his nose.
You had done it again, and it never ceased to amaze him. The cabin you two shared on the edge of the woods was decorated to celebrate an Autumn Court Tradition you, Eris, and Lucien called Hallows Eve.
He remembered you explaining it to him passionately as you two moved pumpkins and haybales around the yard 5 years ago.
In Autumn, it was a night where children were allowed to dress up in little costumes and go door to door in search of candies and treats. It was also a night where teens and adults tended to try to scare each other through stories, pranks, and sometimes decor.
Eris flat out told them when he confirmed the tradition that you were the best conjurer on cheap scares and tricks. He had told Azriel, Rhys, and Cassian of his aunt and Uncle's party and fair they threw for the territory they looked over. It was one night where your Father, the true opposite of Beron, was able to argue that with costumes and masks, you truly could not tell who was rich, who was poor, who was greater, and who was lesser.
He couldn't help but to smile as he heard you humming softly. You were sat at the table, decorating dipped apples for the party you two were hosting tomorrow. "How's my pumpkin today?" He to moved to you, kissing the top of your head before stealing one of little hard coated chocolates you were using. "House looks fantastic."
"Thank you," You were beaming with excitement and joy, flooding it down the bond. "I wanted to make the first Hallows Eve party with Eris and Mara amazing."
Azriel flooded you back with his love, admiration, and adoration. "Did you hear who Nyx is dressing up as?"
"No baby," you added a touch of white edible sparkles to the apple you were making look like a spiderweb, "what's he coming as?"
Azriel sat down, watching with loving eyes as you hand crafted each and every element of this party to perfection. "He's coming as Cassian." You paused. "And Cassian and Lucien's boys?"
"No," you started laughing. "They're not doing this."
"Oh they are," Azriel confirmed. "Sat there while the three of them showed me and everything."
You paused slightly. "Are you going to have to loan out the shadow babies? I need them."
Azriel shook his head, smiling hard enough his dimples showed. "No, the shadow babies are all yours, pumpkin." Azriel stood, walking over to the closet to put his jacket away and you smirked, watching and waiting.
You had conjured a mirror in that closet that created the creature the person who was looking into it was most afraid behind them before it would disappear quickly.
Azriel jumped, "Mother above," and quickly slammed the door shut after throwing his jacket in. He took a few deep breaths, hands placed firmly on his knees before staring at you. "Really?"
You picked up the spider you had crafted from dark chocolate and placed it off center on its web, finishing the caramel and dark chocolate dipped apple. "There's more. My goal is to finally get Cassian this year. Hence why I need the shadow babies."
Azriel scoffed lightly. "He's used to my shadows, dove. He's not going to-" Azriel paused as you looked at him, a small devious smirk on your perfect face. "You found him."
You nodded. "I did."
-
Lucien and Elain were the first to arrive to you home. They were dressed like an old Autumn's tale of a phantom who haunted one of the many Opera Houses and one of his legendary victims.
Lucien looked dangerous in his black suit and cape. Half of his face was covered in the famed white mask the Phantom wore to the performances.
Elain was in the last dress the famed female performer was ever seen in, a white corset gown with a white lace robe. Her hair was curled into spirals and adorned with jewels.
Their son was tucked behind them, waiting so politely for his cousins that you could not help but melt at the sight. Or maybe it was the sight of him dressed up as a little version of Rhysand that had your handing him his first sweet for the night in a hushed tone and a wink.
Feyre, Rhys, and Nyx arrived next. The High Lord and Lady had also dressed in a matching couples costume. Rhys was in brown pants and a green tunic. He had a hat with a feather tucked into it and brown belt hanging loosely on his hips. He smiled at you as he walked in a tiny illyrian leather wearing Nyx. 7 red stones were glued in place. "He was hoping you could glamor him to have Cassian's face scars?" Rhys rolled his eyes. "I offered to do it, but you know how he loves when you do the final touches on their little outfits."
You brought Nyx close to you, and wiggled your nose, making the heir giggle. A scar appeared through his brow and lower lip, "You're still too handsome to look like Uncle Cass, baby."
Nyx got really close to you, pulling down on your dress gently, "Did you make the peanut butter chocolate covered cereal with the white fluffy sugar?"
You just nodded, handing him the same treat you had given his cousin who was squirming on Rhysand's lap, as the High Lord adjusted his jacket lapels. "Once we're in full swing, everything is free game for all of you, okay?" Nyx nodded, running eagerly to his cousin and looking over all the games and snacks you had.
Feyre appeared next to you, iridescent see through wings conjured on her back and a short green dress that looked as if it was made of layered leaves. "I heard you acquired the thing."
"I cannot confirm nor deny that there is an ancient God of fear in my home." You handed her a lemon drop secretly. "I really like the lost boy and pixie idea."
She shrugged. "Rhys just wanted me to wear this dress."
Eris and his mate entered your home next, Azriel immediately standing to hug your cousin and take their baby from them. They were also dressed as legends. The God of Death and Goddess of Spring. Eris wore a black tunic with gold jewelry wrapping his bicep as he held his mate close to him. Mara had her long blonde hair pinned up, a crown of bones and roses resting on her head. Her pink dress was adorned with flowers and pearls. She waved to you with a bring smile on her face. "How many doors should we be afraid to open?" Her bell-like voice rang. You only smiled in response. "All of them."
They had dressed their daughter in a little blue shimmering gown. Azriel walked her to you, tears lining his eyes. "Look at our good daughter," he stroked her soft cheek with one of his fingers. "Eris said they'll probably change her so we have to enjoy this while we can."
"Did you let them know we have a little room ready for her whenever?" Azriel nodded, his soft eyes never leaving her face. "We should go change, my love. Let Lucien have his niece."
Azriel handed her off before you two went up the stairs. "You are sure Nyx is okay with the shadows standing ominously behind him?" Azriel nodded, pulling out his costume and quickly changing. You could feel through the bond he desperately wanted to get back to the little Autumn Heiress.
You saw him in leather everyday, but something about him quickly changing into those loose leather pants and that open white tunic with jewelry had your heart pounding. He strapped the leather belt and weapons to his waist while staring at you. "Later, my lady. Little princess cuddles first."
He helped you get into your own costume, similar to his, being careful not to over tighten the corset you had on. You stared at the two of you in the mirror as he kissed your temple. "We should become pirates."
Azriel shook his head, smacking you playfully on the butt. "I have all the booty I need right here."
The two of you made your way back downstairs. You run up behind your nephew, grabbing Nyx and pulling him into the kitchen. "Are you ready for shadows to loom over you oh so ominously?" You tickled him gently as you asked, and he nodded eagerly.
"You promise Uncle Cass will scream?" You and Azriel nodded. "Revenge." Nyx said with a serious look. "Also. When are we doing the candy?"
Azriel ran a hand through Nyx's hair. "Soon, little bat." A sudden feminine scream had Azriel and you looking up.
Rhys had opened the door where you had created an illusion. Opening the door would cause a mist and dust like figure to appear before it began rushing towards the person standing there, deathly thin hands and fingers reached out to rip them into what appeared to be a void.
Rhys stood with his hand on his chest, eyes wide in fright. "Mother above, y/n! Why?!"
Feyre began to giggle, hiding her head in Lucien's shoulder. "You should have seen your face."
Rhys glared at his mate. "I will never understand your amusement in these things, Feyre Darling."
Eris muttered softly from next to you, surrendering his daughter once again to Azriel. He handed one of the hand-made soft caramels to Nyx and Lucien's son. "It's more the look on your face that's amusing, Rhysand Darling." He paused, looking around. "Where are our other friends?"
Azriel took a cookie, breaking it in half for the boys as their mothers fell into a deep conversation, not noticing as their sons were fed sugar. "Cassian and the girls will be here soon. Mor is in Winter with Viv. Amren is still in Summer."
Lucien rose a brow, smirking. "Still? It's been almost 2 months."
Azriel nodded. "It's not him. It's her."
"You two won't be much better," Rhys said casually as he looked between you and Azriel.
Azriel sighed, "Soon."
You perked up as the door open, smiling in an almost feral way to Eris. "And the show begins."
The Valkyries came in first, carrying a few snacks with them and adding to the table. They were all in black dresses with black corsets. Nesta had a ceremony knife strapped to her waist, Gwyn had shimmering potion bottles on hers, and Emerie had an old leather bound book. Cassian came in next with his and Nesta's son, holding his hand as he hid behind his father.
For such a loud outgoing male and a bold daring female, they had given birth to the quietest being you had ever met. You kneeled down, holding your arms out to him and he ran to you instantly.  Cassian was dressed in black robes, he also carried a book of ancient spells and rituals. "Little guy is nervous over the spooky pumpkins in the yard."
You nodded, lifting your nephew as you held him close. "I'm sorry, bud." He reached for Eris, and the male took him, smiling at his little leathers with bright blue siphons.
"Did you want Uncle Azriel's shadows or no?" He nodded shyly, resting his head on Eris's shoulder. "You know, Auntie y/n bought extra pumpkins for you three to decorate tonight. We can have Auntie Fey help yours look really cool and less spooky."
Feyre's smile grew. "We could turn it into a kitty, or a carriage!"
"Can we play?" He whispered. "And have candy?"
You all nodded. "I made all three of you super special apples this year. And apple sauce for our little princess."
The boys all nodded excited, and you looked at Azriel, giving him the code to begin Cassian's torment. He made a shadowy figure appear behind Nyx, following the little heir to where you had set up games for them and little snack bags for when they got to run through the House going from room to room to collect candy. Cassian stared at the figure and then Nyx. Ignoring it at first as he socialized and got drinks for himself and his trio of witches.
His glance kept going to Nyx as the night passed and the littles played games, smiling and screaming through the House as they found each hidden scare behind the doors and collected their candy from the shadows waiting for them.
"You out did yourself and exceeded expectations once again, sister," Rhysand leaned on the counter next to you, smiling as he drank his spiked cider. "Though I would like to know why the shadows are looming over my son."
You smiled at the boys, watching as they pulled Cassian to the last door to be opened before they got to sit with their hand made candies and make smores. "Just watch, brother," Azriel said smoothly, a scarred hand running up and down your arm as he watched with a smirk.
"Daddy, please!" A tiny version of Azriel pushed Cassian towards the door. "You have to! Mommy did one!"
Cassian looked to Nesta, who nodded in confirmation. "It was a mirror, but instead of reflecting me, it was the King of Hybern holding his head."
Cassian rolled his shoulders back, popping his neck quickly and shaking his hands out. He knocked, thinking he was activating the magic to be ready, and you just smirked. He opened the door and froze before a scream echoed in the house causing Rhys to spit out his cider into the sink and cough. The room was silent, waiting for the shadowed figure to disappear, "You didn't," Rhys whispered.
"Oh, she did." Cassian backed away slowly, putting the three boys behind him just as Bryaxis disappeared. His shoulders visibly relaxed falling into a false sense of comfort as the 3 boys and Nesta began to giggle.
"He's right behind me, isn't he?" Feyre nodded, a tattooed hand covering her mouth. Cassian turned his head in a comedic fashion, whispering it was all fake, just cheap tricks you had conjured to scare the kids. "Just cheap tricks." He repeated over and over until he opened his eyes and looked up, staring straight into the looming figure of an ancient God of Terror.
"Boo," Bryaxis hissed out. Cassian screamed again, running to hide behind Nesta and leaving the three boys their holding out their candy bags.
"Trick or treat," they sang to him in unison. You all watched as the God pulled the largest candy bags you had packaged out, putting on in each bag after shifting himself into an adult sized replica of the little shadow babies behind Nyx. Bryaxis floated to Gwyneth, seeming to almost smile down at her. "You have left the library?"
She nodded. "It took some encouragement, but yes. We miss you protecting us." Bryaxis moved to Feyre, shadowy limbs moving her hair gently.
"I am ready to come home." Feyre seemed to melt on the spot. "If you will still host me." Cassian turned to Rhys, his face falling in terror as the High Lord nodded to his lady. "Did I get a window?"
"Several actually," Feyre confirmed. "You have a sky light now. It's enchanted to protect you from the sun and darken the room during the day, but allow you to see out at night and admire the stars." Bryaxis nodded, disappearing out the window and towards the House of Wind.
Cassian turned to you, "What the fuck was that for?"
You took a sip of water, "Dropping me on purpose on April Fool's Day."
Cassian opened his mouth to defend himself, but paused as he saw his son and cousin giggling as they sat in a little circle.
Eris entered the room, smiling broadly and gently pushing Lucien. "Fire is ready if the boys are." He turned to Cassian. "I thought for a second I needed to come rescue my mate when you screamed. Then I remembered her and Aspyn were next to me." Laughter erupted through the room as Cassian smirked at Eris. The two males jokingly shoved each other, smiling as they grabbed drinks.
Everyone left the room laughing as Eris and Cassian verbally picked on each other, heading to the large bonfire. You, Rhys, and Azriel stood inside, waiting for the door to shut before the High Lord turned to you two.
"I had a thought I wanted to speak to you about y/n," Rhys grabbed a handful of the trail mix you had made. "We've enjoyed this tradition so much the past few years, and if you are okay with it, I would like to introduce it to all of Velaris next year."
He paused, watching excitement set in on your face. "I just imagine the streets full of children enjoying the festivities. We do not have many holidays and traditions aimed towards them, and this truly seems to be from them more than adults."
You nodded, smile growing. "I would need you to lead the community on it. Hold meetings explaining traditions, teach the citizens how to make treats, talk to seamstresses about costume designs. Could you do that for me?"
"Yes!" You bounced in place, throwing your arms around his neck and hugging him tightly. "Of course I can!"
"You will have to do one more thing, sweetness," Rhys tilted your chin up to his face. "Nyx will never forgive me if Auntie y/n stops having her haunted cabin. I need this to continue until the boys lose interest, and even then after that for Aspyn and this little ones you two may have some day. I know it's been a discussion." He smirked at your non verbal confirmation.  "Nyx will want to take part when he's older during set up and execution. He dreams about it and has little maps of ideas in his room."
You and Azriel had froze, your mate's hand and arm coming around your waist. "What gave away that we were trying?"
Rhys pointed towards your untouched cider and the candy and snacks you and Azriel had been eating all night. "She hasn't drank alcohol for the past 3 months, you have been deligated missions that keep you far from home for too long, and you, dear brother, have been even more obsessed with little Aspyn. The last click was the baggy costume instead of her being your arm candy tonight like she normally is. No one else knows that you're actively trying. I will keep it to myself until you're ready."
Rhys leaned in, kissing your forehead. "Think about my request. We will loan all the help you need. Excuse me while I go stop my wife from eating all of the marshmallows."
You and Azriel stood there, the shadowsinger placing soft kisses on your temple, then cheek, and neck. "You did a wonderful job, dove. The shadows have been whispering everyone's praises back to me all night." You smiled, turning in his arms to kiss his jaw. "Let's go get smores. I know you have been waiting for them all day."
He grabbed the bowl you had been digging in all night and your hand. The two of you smiled as Eris told the three young boys a campfire story, bouncing his daughter gently on his knee as he did.
Cassian wrapped an arm around you as you sat next to him, "Great party again, even if you scared me shitless."
"Did Rhysie tell you what he wants to do next year?" Cassian nodded. "What do you think?"
"As long as Auntie's spooky cabin continues, I'm in. Ness and I will help however we can."
"Then we should do it."
He nodded, watching as Azriel used his shadows to scare the boys at the perfect point in Eris's story. "Yes, yes, we should."

Natasha Romanoff x Female Reader
Natasha wants to decorate the house as a new fall tradition for your family
Note: Happy flufftober! Here’s my first fic. Enjoy it!
Flufftober 2023 Masterlist, Main Masterlist
During your relationship so far, Natasha hasn’t really wanted to do anything special for the fall. October was just another month to her. You got used to that, so you never expected it to change.
But today, Natasha wakes up with fall activities at the forefront of her mind.
“Detka, wake up,” she says into the morning light. “We have to go shopping.”
You grunt and roll over to look at her. She sounds like she is talking nonsense.
“What?” You ask her. “What time is it?”
“7:30,” Nat answers casually.
“Too early,” you mumble. You try to pull the covers over your head, but Natasha stops you.
“Our sweet girl will be up soon,” she says.
“So, we should sleep until then.” Your daughter is in an energetic phase. You love seeing her come out of her shell, but she has too much energy for early mornings.
“You need to wake up so we can get ready,” Nat says. “I have some things I want to do today.”
“Natasha, please,” you say.
She loves the way you pout at her. She kisses it away. Her plan to wake you up is successful as you can’t resist her kisses. Nat shifts so you’re pinned under her. The weight of her wakes you up further.
“You’re evil,” you say as she kisses your lips deeply.
She kisses you for a few minutes before you hear the sound of little feet running towards your room. You brush your knee between her legs and Natasha practically growls. She didn’t hear the little girl, so she tries to kiss you again, but you push her off you.
“No,” Natasha mumbles as she falls back on the bed.
You chuckle at her antics.
“Mama! Mommy! The sun is up!” Ali says as she comes to your side of the bed.
“Yes, it is, baby,” you reply. “Come on up.”
The little girl crawls onto the bed and Natasha wraps her in her arms. She kisses her temple and holds her close.
“So, I was thinking we could decorate for fall/Halloween today. What do you both think?” Natasha asks.
“Really?” Ali asks. Her face lights up at the idea, but soon falls. “Scary stuff?”
“No, malyshka. Nothing scary,” Nat assures her. “Just some pumpkins, haybales, maybe even a scarecrow.”
“Where’s this coming from?” You ask your wife.
“I don’t know,” Nat says. “I just realized I kind of want to be one of those tacky fall families that decorate for the season. I want that for our kids.”
You nod in understanding. Nat has slowly opened up about her opinions about how to raise your kids with the older Ali gets and the prospect of more kids soon.
“Well, then we have some shopping to do,” you say.
“Can I wear my pumpkin shirt Auntie Wanda got me?” Ali asks.
“Absolutely,” you agree. “Let’s go get ready.”
With that, your little family of three is out of bed and gets ready to go shopping. You go to Target for a few inflatables, the farmer’s market for haybales and pumpkins, and finally make a stop at the grocery store for fall themed snacks and drinks.
When you get back home, you turn on a fall playlist and help Natasha decorate the house. She mostly does the work while you wrangle Ali from running around crazy. Maybe a caramel apple with M&M’s on it was too much sugar for a three-year-old.
“What do you think?” Natasha asks, stepping back from the house.
There are pumpkins, haybales, and a scarecrow in the front yard with more pumpkins and a fake black widow spider you convinced her you needed on the porch. The yard also has a Charlie Brown great pumpkin that Ali wanted. It’s perfect.
“I love it,” you answer. “You did amazing, my love.”
“Thanks,” Nat says, a smile on her face. She lifts Ali into her arms. “What do you think, Ali baby?”
“The spider is my favorite,” Ali replies.
“Really? I thought it might be a little scary,” you say.
“No, because Mama is a black widow, and she isn’t scary,” Ali reasons.
You and Natasha both laugh. Nat can be a little scary, but you won’t tell Ali that. After all, the woman who wanted to wake up and decorate the house for fall couldn’t be that scary.
The house looks perfect, and you feel a new tradition has begun. You can’t wait for next fall with your perfect family.

The King and His Queen
Tumblr media
Joker x Reader
Words: 3.7K
Summary: Waking up in the hospital, unsure who you were, you believed what the nurses told you, that is until one day, when you got home and found a strange man in your home.
Going shopping, the last thing on your list was flour. You planned on baking some sweets for yourself and your husband this weekend.
Well deserved after a long week of work for both of you.
After paying and walking out, you looked around, you let out a sigh before you headed home. It was way too hot, thankfully you didn't live far from the store.
With many groceries in your hands, you finally arrived at your door. As you opened it, you felt uneasy for some reason. You weren't sure why but you went ahead. Even if everything in you screamed to turn around and run.
You closed the door behind yourself and headed to the kitchen to put your things away.
After letting out a sigh, you washed your hands, dried them and you headed to your living room.
You stopped dead in your tracks.
You had a simple sofa, one part of it was always in the corner, dark, you always thought it would be able to hide a person and this time, there is someone sitting in the darkness.
Your curtains were pulled so it was even darker. You couldn't speak.
"Wh-Who are you?" you managed to say even if your throat felt dry.
"They tried really hard to hide you, gave you a fake name and life even."
"M-My husband will be back soon... you better leave he is a military man."
"Of course. Your husband will be back soon. That fucker."
You didn't understand a thing, but Michael told you that he had a gun hidden in the cupboard in the kitchen in case of emergency if you could just run for it.
"I'm here to take you back, where you belong Pumpkin, and you are mine." he leaned forward, the light illuminating his face finally and your blood ran cold, The Joker. The King of Crime in Gotham.
Why was he saying you were his? What was going on? You knew he was a very sick individual but to do this... this is another level.
"Please just leave, I won't call the police, just please."
"Y/N, you will come with me and you will remember." the way he talked, he was way too serious, you didn't like that, and why did he call you Y/N? That is not your name!
"L-look Mister Joker, I-I have no idea what you are talking about." you started to walk towards the kitchen. "I'm not who you are looking for."
He let out a sigh.
"The gun in the kitchen? Really? That's your plan? You are a trained assassin and you go for the obvious? Your mind really did get fucked up."
You freeze once again.
Assassin? You? What was he talking about?
"I-I-"
"His name is not Michael either. He is a fake just like your life is. His real name is Ben or some shit."
"Duncan." said a man to your right making you jump as you looked at the tall man who just emerged from your bedroom.
"That's it Frost! Whatever, he is a policeman, trying to catch me and they decided to use you, however they didn't expect me to find you before they even had a plan."
This was all too much.
"I have no idea what you are talking about!"
"Of course, you don't Princess, amnesia is a real bitch." as he moved his hand the multiple gold bracelets on his arm moved, making sounds.
"Amnesia?"
---
One Week Ago
Frost got out of the car, he wanted to light a cigarette but the voice of his wife in his head stopped him, so he let out a sigh, he looked across the street before deciding to go and get some water from the store while he had some time.
He was about to pay when he noticed someone in the other line.
Undeniably, it was you. He couldn't believe his eyes, he rushed out of the store and waited outside.
He wanted to be sure it was definitely you, and when he was certain, as he watched you walk out and away from the store, he pulled out his phone and dialled his boss. He needed to be 200% sure or the Joker would shoot him for playing a cruel joke.
"WHAT? This better be important Front OR ELSE-" Jonny had to get the phone away from his ear or he was sure he would be deaf to that ear.
"I just saw Y/N. I'll follow her, she didn't recognize me."
The Joker swore his heart stopped, and he was certain he didn't even have one.
The Joker got off his phone and looked at the man sitting in front of him.
He was in the middle of another heist planning when he got the call. And he just stood up and left.
He thought you were dead. Everyone did. So how did Frost just see you?
He didn't need a heist, he needed answers!
---
Five Months Ago
Joker woke up with a groan, you were glued to his side as usual. It was the only way he could sleep.
He was pleased to find you there, much like every other morning, in his arms.
He started to kiss along your arm that was placed on his chest which he managed to lift to his lips.
"J?" his name rolled off your tongue like it was the most natural thing.
And it was. If anyone else dared to call him that, he would blow their brains out.
"Cara Mia..." he said and it made you giggle.
"Look at you, we watched The Addams Family once..." you laughed and so did he.
"Say Doll, what's the plan for today?"
"Oh, easy, Mr Joker. We are going to have mindblowing sex, then shower sex and then we annoy Frosty! Could we pretty please kidnap Jim Gordon? You know I LOVE kidnapping Jimmy!"
"Whatever my Queen wants!" he said as he moved above you, his hand running up your tight, under your very expensive silk nightgown before starting to kiss your neck.
Perfect day.
At least it was supposed to be perfect.
If only Battsy didn't get involved in your little play with Jim Gordon. He wouldn't have to flee the scene while you shot at the Batmobile from the window.
"How annoying! Just when I started to have fun!" you said as the Joker took a turn and you sat in your seat. "He always has to ruin everything."
Joker already called Frost, making sure to lose Batman so he could bring you home.
But of course, he took a wrong turn, Batman didn't take the bait and he caught up, you had to run.
You ditched his purple Lambo and ran. Just as you were running, Joker was a bit faster than you but you did catch up. As you turned to stop you knew the Batman would stop if he caught one of you, so you stayed. You heard the sirens.
Joker only realized you weren't behind him when he turned a corner.
"Princess?" he yelled but it was too late, the cops were there, Joker had to watch as one of the cars didn't have time to stop, he hit you dead on. Then there were a lot of shots fired.
You were dead. He saw you laying there, even heard a policeman yell that you had no pulse.
That was it... his Queen was gone. And she did what she had to, to save her King. Yet the pain in his chest just grew.
"Boss!" yelled Frost as he got the Joker into the car and drove off. "Where is she Boss? We can go back and pick her up."
"She's gone." Joker managed to say. His voice was barely a whisper. And Frost knew better than to ask questions, so he drove his boss home. "Leave." the Joker said once he arrived home.
The luxurious house he bought for you as a birthday present was now quiet. No voices, no laughter, no teasing or yelling.
Quiet.
Without his Queen what does a king worth? Nothing.
Grief was a word the Joker wasn't familiar with. He was never attached to anyone before, how would he know?
He just sat there.
He often heard that there were five stages of grief. But the man was so crazy, he went through them all in a couple of hours.
Denial
It started the next morning, Jonny visited his boss to talk to him when he found the Joker pacing around.
"She cannot be dead. She wouldn't die to those pigs! She's a smart girl."
Anger
Johhny just watched as the Joker one moment was still pacing before he turned and grabbed a vase, threw it to the floor and watched as it shattered.
"SHE DIDN'T DIE! YOU HEAR ME JONNY."
"Yes, Boss."
Bargaining
Not even an hour passed when the Joker nearly gave Frost a heart attack as he suddenly appeared behind the man.
"What if we go and find her Frost?"
"I'll get a car ready."
"We find her and bring her back! Perfect plan!"
Depression
This was the strangest. By the time they got to the car, Jonny realized what was happening and knew what the next stage was. He just drove, didn't say a word but he saw as his Boss' face changed.
One second he was hoping to find you, even called Harvey Dent to try and find you, then as if the light left his eyes. Sadness hit the Joker like no other.
And it was scary. Frost knew his boss wasn't normal, he knew he would deal with this sadness in a different way than the average person would.
And once again Jonny was right.
"Stop right here." he said the Joker as he got out of the car, heading to a jewellery store, in broad daylight. Frost knew or at least had a rough idea what the plan was, so he waited.
Soon, the Joker arrived with a suitcase full of diamonds.
"My Princess loved diamonds, Frosty. Let's go home."
"Yes, Boss."
And with that, the Joker arrived to the last stage.
Acceptance
Frost watched, even helped his boss arrange your things. Your favourite jewellery, shoes, dresses, anything he got for you was right in front of the Joker as he looked at them.
Took him a couple of hours to finally speak.
"She's gone isn't she?"
Frost didn't know what to say. Usually, he knew what was the right thing not to make the Joker angry, but this even hurt him. You were a great friend of his, you were easygoing and kind.
"Frost!"
"Boss?"
"Is she gone?" the Joker looked at Jonny, and Frost knew, there was no right answer here.
"I'm afraid, Sir, she is." and now he waited, he waited to be shot. But it never happened.
When he looked up at his Boss who was now standing, watching a mannequin which had your wedding dress on, the Joker snapped.
A different kind of fire was in his eyes. Something Jonny knew way more than any other.
Revenge.
---
At the same time, on the other side of the city, a couple police men were desperate to catch the Joker, they had you in a hospital, hidden away before the clown could get to you.
They tried to think of a way, a way to end the Joker finally.
Then came the news.
"She woke up, doesn't remember a thing of her life."
And the perfect plan was created.
One of the policemen pretended to be your husband in the meantime, while they came up with the perfect trap.
"Please don't leave the house, Darling and if something happens, there is a gun in the kitchen. Don't be afraid to use it." your husband said.
It was hard for you, you had many months of therapy to go through, you needed to learn to walk with a fucked up knee.
The story they told you was that a drunk driver hit you. Your husband, Michael was at home when it all happened and now, now you weren't sure.
Watching the man with a purple jacket on, hearing this crazy story that your husband and everyone in the hospital lied to you? It was too much.
"How-How would you make me remember?" you asked, you knew you needed to win some time until your husband will be back.
"First of all, I killed every single last one of those men who hurt you that day. Including your husband."
There goes the plan to wait.
"They all lied to you, used you to get to me. But they never expected that I am the King around here."
That didn't really answer your question but you weren't surprised that he rather talked about whatever he wanted.
"So, Pumpkin, you are coming with me, back home where you belong!"
And who were you to object? You also wanted to hear what he had to say, as crazy as it sounded.
You soon arrived at this mansion. It was absolutely huge.
"You like it? Of course you do Princess, it is yours."
This place could never be yours.
You were just a simple woman. Or so you were told.
But as you entered, the luxury kept on coming. Walls filled with paintings, you loved them, they looked absolutely stunning.
"Is that-is that a Monet?"
"The Water Lily Pond. Your favourite. Was rather difficult to get though."
"It's a really good copy."
"Copy?" he laughed as he walked up to you, standing beside you looking at you. "My Queen doesn't get copies and dupes."
You looked at him, eyes big.
"I-It's real?"
"The original of course. As I said, it was a pain to get but it was worth it."
"Are all...paintings?"
"Woman! Of course they are real! I'm not going to have my Queen's house fill with FAKES! HA!" you looked around, and for some reason, you didn't have the same feeling when Michael or Duncan or whatever his name got you home.
This house, mansion rather, felt... safe. Like you knew it.
But it couldn't be true.
Then you noticed pictures. They were all scattered on the floor along with some clothes and a mannequin wearing a wedding dress.
This almost looked like a shrine to you.
"This is all yours." he said, picking up the photos he handed them to you.
It was you, undeniably, you and him.
You didn't know what to do anymore. This was all so confusing it made your head hurt and your eyes tear up as you looked at the Clown beside you.
"What do you want from me?" you asked, desparate.
"I want you back." he said with such a serious tone, that it made you shiver. "I lost you five months ago when you sacrificed yourself so I could get away. I think you wanted them to catch you so I could get you out of Arkham but it is not what happened. They hit you with a car, shot you three times, yet you didn't die, Pumpkin, Just like you promised. You lived for me."
"My head hurts." you said.
"Then let's go and you get some sleep in our bed." he guided you to the bedroom.
And you thought the rest of the house was incredible? The bedroom was above it all. Ceiling high as ever, a huge crystal chandelier right in the middle. And a bed, a huge bed, of course it had a bathroom which you got a glimpse of and a balcony overlooking Gotham.
The Joker noticed you looking out the window.
"Our Kingdom, Princess. Now, get some rest, I'll be in my office if you need me."
Like you knew where it was.
You lay down in the bed, smelling the pillows, they smelt similar, like a smell that you couldn't quite place. It smelled like home.
Then as it got darker, you didn't sleep, but your head didn't hurt anymore either. You felt at ease for some reason.
Could it be that the Joker wasn't lying? Could it be that this really was your true life?
You did only believe what the doctor, nurses and Mi-Duncan said because they were there. So if it was true, what the Joker said, you were shot so, that explained the weird wounds on your legs and arm. The doctor said it was due to the impact but bullets made more sense for some reason.
You looked up at the ceiling and of course, there was a mirror on the ceiling, you looked at yourself, laying there. Maybe it was true, it would explain why you had the urge to strangle the woman who cut you off in line, it would explain why you wanted to bash the head of the entitled nurse who treated you like shit in the hospital. You had anger issues which you pushed down for the past five months.
You had a strong feeling to take whatever you wanted for free. You wanted to snatch that necklace off of that woman at your work and now it made sense.
The Joker had to be right. You weren't who they made you believe you were. Even if you didn't remember.
You went to the walk-in closet and noticed many many many clothes, bags and shoes, some were missing, you remembered the little circle of things in the living room, they must have been your favourites, but the clothes in there were also rather nice. High-quality things for sure.
Then you recalled the wedding dress. You needed to see that again.
Slowly you walked back to the living room, you found it funny how easily you navigated through the huge mansion.
And there it was, although the clothes and things were missing from around it, the wedding dress was still there.
The dress screamed grand. Elegance, wealth. It was sparkly, littered with stones that you assumed were diamonds since as you know now, the Joker doesn't do fake.
You wanted to put it on, but you didn't, you just stood there, unaware of anything else.
"If I may-" said a voice behind you which made you jump. You saw the same men who drove you here. "Apologies. If I may, I know you don't remember me, my name is Jonny Frost. We used to be-We are friends. Do you want to put the dress on? Maybe it will help you remember."
"Am I really The Joker's wife?"
"Yes, Ma'am. And you do love him. As strange as it might sound, you two are... made for each other. He used to be toxic, don't get me wrong he still is, but with you Y/N, he is a lot worse."
"Worse?"
"Yes, because he has you to lose. He wasn't always like this, he used to beat up everyone, men and women, he didn't care, but you, he would never touch you. He was looking for you, he mourned you, in his own way."
You looked from him towards the dress.
"Even if I put it on, I wouldn't remember. It is beautiful."
"Do you want to see pictures? Wedding pictures I hid from him before he made this... shrine."
You gave him a nod and he guided you to the library. There, he gave you the photo book.
"I'll leave you to it, I'll also bring some dinner." before you could say anything he was out the door.
Photos.
Photos of a wedding you don't remember. Photos of a life you cannot recall.
Yet, it was you. Undeniably you are in those photos, kissing, giggling, and laughing along with the Joker.
In one of the pictures, you noticed you had a J tattooed on your ring finger.
But now it was not there. Not a trace. Yet, when you touched the skin it felt empty like it was missing that letter.
Now it made sense a little. Why you couldn't even stand the thought of Michael as your husband, why you rather throw yourself out the window than let him touch you. Why you wanted to just strangle him while he slept and why he spent so much time at work.
He wasn't your husband.
You weren't his. You are the Joker's, and although you didn't remember it would never stop you.
You ate the dinner Jonny got you then you made your way to the Joker's office. With a specific photo in hand.
You watched as he sat at his desk, looking at some papers when he noticed you. Out of instinct, he moved his chair back, waiting for you to sit, and you did, just not where he thought you would.
You sat in the chair across from him.
You placed the photo on the desk showing him the tattoo on his chest, your name.
"Do you have it?" you asked and he moved his shirt and there it was.
Y/N in black ink right above his collarbone. Then you pointed at the photo.
"I don't have mine. None of them."
"They removed those, I'm aware. They wanted their story to fit, would be hard to explain why you have a J on your ring finger when your husband is called Michael."
"Right...Can I get them back?" you looked up at him, finding his eyes. Striking blue, breathtaking. No wonder you fell in love with those.
"You want them back?"
"I-I believe you, I believe they made up the story, it had many many holes in it, I had a feeling something's not right, but your-your story, with the dress, pictures and this place, it-it feels like home. I want not only the tattoos back, I want my life back, even if I don't remember anything. I know we can make more memories." he smiled. A genuine smile which would send a shiver down a person's back, but you saw his eyes. He was happy.
Was it even possible for the Joker to be happy? Jonny's words started to make sense now.
"Princess, welcome back to your home." he said as he started to laugh.
A laugh so wicked it sent chills down everyone's entire body who heard it, even those who didn't. It was a warning, something they didn't know just yet, but the Joker and his Queen were back.
The End
This will be continued with small blurbs if anyone is interested.
A/N: This was written with Jared Leto’s Joker in mind, but it could work for all Joker’s as an AU I believe. Hope you enjoyed it!

Jax stared at the well stacked shelving units at the grocery store, right now he felt like he was drawing with no life ring to save him. His head was spinning as he bounced his seven month old daughter in his arms, he had tried everything to sooth her cries but nothing was working.
“Come on, babygirl,” he sighed, so close to admitting defeat, he had no clue what he was doing and he hadn’t admitted this to anyone but he was scared, ever since his girl walked out on him leaving him to raise their daughter on his own. “Please, stop crying,” he whispered, holding his hand on her head as he pressed a tender kiss against her skin.
He had no idea what medicine he needed, all he knew was his daughter was burning up and constantly screaming, nothing he did was soothing her.
“She’s teething,” a voice appeared from behind him.
“I’m sorry?” he questioned, spinning on the balls of his feet, cocking a brow at the old lady standing in the aisle.
“Your baby girl, she is teething,” the old woman said softly, pushing past Jax and grabbing, “try rubbing some of this on her gums,” she smiled, passing him a box that contained some sort of gel. Jax smiled gratefully at her, before taking the small box from her. “Also this, and also some of these.”
Jax just let the old woman toss stuff into his basket, he didn’t care how much it cost, all that mattered was that his babygirl wasn’t in any pain. He didn’t care as he tore open the box of teething biscuits, at the end of the day he was going to buy them anyway.
He watched intently as he daughter reached out grabbing the biscuit in her tiny hand, automatically pulling it to her mouth. At that moment Jax thought he had gone deaf as for the first time today she had finally stopped crying. He couldn’t help but let out a large sign of relief.
“Thank you, for everything,” he said softly, smiling at the old woman, “you have been a lifesaver.”
“You are more than welcome, son,” she hummed, resting her hand on his arm. “Your daughter is beautiful and don’t stress too much, you are doing amazing.”
Jax couldn’t find the words so he just smiled gratefully at her, as quick as she appeared she disappeared leaving Jax once again standing alone in the baby medicine aisle. Looking down at his daughter she was happily sucking away at the biscuit in her grasp, Jax didn’t care she was getting his Kutte covered in the food all that mattered was she was happy and content. Leaning down he pressed a kiss against the top of her head before heading to the check out.

kids show up, and i get no kisses.
Tumblr media
billy hargrove x gn!reader
word count: 1,254
warnings: swearing, suggestive comments, fluffy fluff
a/n: hi!! some billy for you. this is my way of romanticizing a holiday i’m not totally over the moon for, but this is how i wish it’d be. if you don’t celebrate it, you can skip this, or imagine eating a whole bunch of stuff you like, or ignore me as a whole. this is also me encouraging byler. i hope you enjoy it!! <33
————
Billy's palm was warm where it rested on your bare thigh, callouses scratching back and forth from time to time. He'd made himself at home, his legs over yours, sticking where skin met skin. He had on those little green shorts despite the fact that it was freezing outside.
It was one of those days where neither of you had to work, and it was too cold for him to go outside. A day where he insisted on being on top of you the whole time, insisted on being all over you. Not that it bothered you. You did live together after all.
Billy was staring at the television, some rerun of something on. You thought he was paying attention, but his words told you he'd really been off thinking away.
"Are we supposed to, like, do Thanksgiving or somethin'?"
This would be your first major holiday living together, and honestly, you'd thought about it, but you weren't really sure. You certainly didn't want to go home, and that wasn't going to happen for Billy either.
You turned to look at him, light from the tv creating shadows on the slopes and plains of his face. He looked so pretty. "Do you wanna? Like eat together maybe?"
"Hm. Maybe?" Billy rubbed his nose. You reached over him to pull the chain on the lamp, room darkening from the now fully set sun. He set a hand on your back to steady you, but when you moved back he pulled you fully in his lap, setting your forearms on his shoulders.
"Did you celebrate it at home?" You questioned tentatively, swiping a thumb over his freckles and giggling lightly because of how much you liked them. He wouldn't even scold you for your fawning anymore.
"Mom cooked when I was a kid, but clearly that went to shit. Susan fucked something up on accident once and then Neil just made us go out to eat after that, or eat leftovers. I think we might've gone to like a grandparents or something when I was really young? I don't know."
"Why don't we figure something out, yeah? Pick stuff out. Maybe we could have Max over?"
Billy contemplated, dramatically taking your face in his hands. "Okay," he drawled.
————
That's how you found yourself in the grocery store, list in hand as you searched through the potatoes for some that looked promising. You found some just as Billy returned with the peas he'd wanted.
Moving to another section, you looked through the pie crusts before glancing up to ask Billy for help. You caught him in the act of racing down the aisle, body hoisted up on the cart, leg pushing him off of the tile until he reached the end cap and spun around. Clearly he was bored.
He caught your gaze, tossing his head back and laughing because you'd seen him. But you didn't mind when he got like this. Any chance for him to release some of that childhood energy was good. Deserved.
"Need somethin' baby?" He put his hands on his hips, out of breath.
"You want pumpkin or apple pie?"
"Pumpkin."
"Good. Wasn't gonna make apple anyhow."
He grinned at you, fixing the collar on his jacket, brown leather worn in from years of wear. "What else do we need? I can get whatever you want."
He peered over your shoulder at the list, reading the things you hadn't marked off yet. "Milk, eggs, gravy. Come on sweet thing." Billy placed one hand on the cart, reaching the other out to take yours and place it on his belt so you could grab hold. "I'm on it."
————
Billy was finishing deviled eggs when there was a knock at the door followed by, "I'm coming in! Please be decent!"
You laughed over the stove where you were finishing mashed potatoes. Max entered the kitchen along with Lucas and Will.
Billy wiped his hands off. "Hi boys. Hi shitbird." You turned in time to catch their hug—short, but kind, and followed by a yank of Max's pigtail.
Will made his way over to you. "Smells good." He hugged you sweetly and then snuck a roll. Lucas followed, and then Max.
"Are we having macaroni?" She asked, hopeful.
"Your brother made it." You looked over at the timer on the counter. "It's almost done." She laughed in triumph before offering her help, which you declined, telling the three of them to do whatever.
Billy cut up the turkey into thin slices, so that it was "fall-y apart-y" the way you liked, and then the five of you sat on the floor around the coffee table in the living room to eat, the Macy's parade on in the background.
Will sat to the left of you, Billy on your right. You took this as your gateway to breach the question, knowing he recognized your home as a safe space, even though everyone knew now. You turned to him and he looked up, watery doe eyes meeting yours. But apparently, Billy was wondering the same thing as you.
"How's Mike?" He asked, looking around you, beating you to the question.
Will blushed, but smiled nonetheless. "He's good. He's really good. Finished a campaign the other night."
"Yeah? That's good."
You all drifted into varying conversations throughout your meal, Billy and Lucas talking about basketball, while you, Max, and Will critiqued the varying dance groups in the parade or talked about what they were doing on fall break.
Eventually, Billy helped you clean up while the kids set up Monopoly on the table in place of the food.
Standing in front of the fridge, rearranging the Tupperware, Billy wrapped his arms around you, snuck his warm hands under your shirt to rub at the chub of your tummy. His nails grazed your sides, making you laugh.
You shut the fridge, turning around to face him. "Something you need, Mr. Hargrove?"
His smile reached his eyes, and you reached out for his freckles again. He leaned into your touch. "Just you. And I want pie."
"'Course you do. Anything else?"
"Kisses. Kids show up, and I get no kisses, even in my own damn house. Pretty please?" He batted his lashes at you. "I've been so good today."
"Today."
He scoffed. "Rude."
You took his face in your hands and kissed him anyhow, slow and sweet, eliciting a groan from him. You pulled away, but he muttered an "Uh, uh," instead.
This time he ran his tongue along your bottom lip, before slipping it into your mouth. You pulled away this time, making him pout. "B, in case you forgot, there are minors on the premises."
He kissed your forehead. "Yeah, yeah."
Speaking of, said minors joined the two of you in the kitchen and you doled out pie to each of them. Leaving you and Billy alone again, you watched as he spooned out cool whip on either of your slices. He rubbed your nose, ridding his index finger of the creamy substance he'd gotten on it.
He used it as an excuse to lick it off, swiping his tongue over your nose. "Billy!" You giggled—exactly the reaction he'd been hoping for.
The five of you spent the rest of the afternoon talking about everything and nothing, whining over board games, and eating yourselves so full that there was no other choice but for all of you to nap in various locations, splayed out over whatever surface was around.
You couldn't have asked for anything better.

Like Real People Do (Depowered Homelander x OC)
Tumblr media
spidersona oc, depowered homie, silly sweet domestics, bittersweet almost, i love him | Fic Directory
prompt 3 : grocery shopping
@cozycornerevents
Tumblr media
The simplicity of human life has been one of the greater hurdles for Homelander.  If not for Benjamin, he doubts he’d do more than stand like a fool, list in hand, hoping for some Vought assistant to show up and do the insurmountably mundane task for him.  But… those days are gone.
It’s taken him a long time to get to this point.  Going out in public after losing his powers seemed a feat greater than flying ever was.  It was petrifying to imagine someone recognizing him as he was now, all scruffy and dark-haired, so pitifully human with his eyeglasses.  He’s never quite sure if it’s a compliment or insult when Benjamin tells him no one will notice.
He settles for it being neither.  This is him now– Homelander is simply who he used to be despite how he still clings to his old identity.  He’s just John now.
Just John.
John, who walks hand in hand with his secretly-super boyfriend through the aisles of the supermarket, doing his best to spot the items they need.
New toothbrush.  Mouthwash– not that weird stuff we got last time.
John, who was learning bit by bit, day by day, what it means to have that normal life he’d always dreamt of.  Picket fence or not, this was it.
Pasta noodles.  Chicken breasts.  Lettuce.  Hot sauce.
The mundane.  The ordinary.  A far shot from the way he’d been raised.
Mini Spidey-O’s Cereal.  Paper Towels.
Something that little boy in the lab could’ve never imagined.
Coffee creamer.  Milk.
Something the man he was a mere two years prior could’ve never fathomed.
Chocolate ice cream. Frozen blueberries.
Things the man he is today will never take for granted.
Flowers, because you deserve them, pumpkin ♥
“What?” Ben asks with a playful smile.
And someone who makes each little moment worth more than all the power in the world.
“Nothing,” Homelander mumbles, his cheeks burning a light pink.  Still so odd how something as simple as goddamn grocery store flowers can make him turn red– make him feel appreciated.  Not that simple twenty dollar bouquets were the extent of Benjamin’s gifting to him– certainly not, it was just…
So goddamn simple.
“D’you have your rewards card, sweetie?” The cashier asks him.  An older woman by the name of May who he’d come to appreciate during these trips.  Thursdays were their grocery day specifically so they could chat with her.  She doted on them.  Dubbed the boys ‘her favorites.’
John’s awkward stacking on the conveyor belt ceases and he fumbles for his wallet.  She scans it despite the little nervous shakes in his hands that he won’t quite be able to quell until they’re back in the safety of their home.  May gives him a sweet smile and starts scanning, passing each item down to Benjamin for bagging.
He has to ignore the tabloids and magazines adorning the checkout lane.
Homelander Vanished.
Abandoned by Our Hero.
Years since his ‘retirement,’ yet his old image stares him down wherever he goes. He keeps his focus on May and Ben to spare himself the burn of agony and shame. When his eyes try to wander back, he makes himself stare at a magazine with Ben's mask printed on the front.
Along Came a Spider.
How a Bug Brought Balance.
She strikes up her regular small talk.  The weather, the bustle of the city– and damn that traffic, she always says.  Ben giggles back and forth with her, and Homelander pitches in from time to time.  She talks about her grandchildren for a while– Shaun and Emily, the absolute loves of her life, the stars in her sky– then grins widely as she scans the bouquet.
“Boys, forgive an old woman for being nosy, but when is the wedding?”
Both him and Benjamin smile wide and turn a shade or two red.
“Maybe someday,”  they both tell her in unison.
“Good,” she says over the beep of the scanner.  “I want a front row seat, y’all hear me?”
They grin and giggle the whole way home about it, hands joined over the center console of the car.
Marriage…
“Well, y’know… Vought did put my last name on your papers.” Ben hums. He never told Homelander the ugly reason why it was done, but John didn’t need to know that.  His elation at the liberation of finally legally existing was all that mattered.  “In a way, aren’t we kinda already sorta married?”
Homelander blinks a few times in rapid succession as the thought nests and roots in his mind.  Are they?
“I swear, May gives us some weird realization every time we go.” The bug grins.  “Here I thought she couldn’t beat that whole ‘it’s impossible to kiss yourself anywhere but on the lips in the mirror’ bit, but she outdid herself today, huh?”
John squeezes Ben’s hand tighter almost out of instinct.  Despite the cool air blowing from the air vent, he couldn’t fight the sting of tears in his eyes.
Married…
“Hey, you okay?”  Ben murmurs as they approach an all too convenient red light.
Is he?  Hell, will he ever be?
He just nods.  It’s not abnormal for him to have his silent little mood shifts.  He’s sure Ben will understand.
Besides, that was too big of a question.  In truth, he’s mystified by the idea.  Once upon a time, he dreamt of putting a ring on Ben’s finger.  He knew, though, that Vought would never let them be public.  They could never in a million years dream of it without a trillion pounds of consequences being dropped on their heads.  Public backlash, too, given the general views of his former fanbase.  But that never stopped him from imagining another world.   He’d have walked Ben out on stage in front of the masses, dropped to one knee, and popped the question then and there– and damn it he might cry in the moment, but would that be a bad thing?  To hear his little spider agree to spend eternity with him, to slip that little band on his finger and feel his heart bloom in his chest– would it be wrong to feel it in his very soul?
Homelander sniffles himself from his stupor when he feels the soft thud of the car pulling into the driveway.
Home.
Where he’s safe and loved, always and forever, with that dork who insisted upon carrying every bag in all at once by himself.  The same one who wasted no time at all in pressing a warm kiss to his lips and gazing at him with a cosmos worth of love in his eyes.
Homelander shuts his eyes and leans in to press his forehead against Ben’s.  There’s groceries to put away and dinner to be made, but for now it doesn’t hurt to bask in the presence of the love of his life.  If he lets his mind wander far enough, right now, right then, they’re swaying gently to their first dance as an officially married couple.  They’ll have just tied the knot, and everyone that matters will be there.  He feels Ben’s arms snake up around his neck and he wraps his own around the bug’s waist.
Times like these make him miss his powers more than anything.  Once upon a time, they’d do exactly this above the clouds, spinning slowly in place.  The world was theirs.
Perhaps, though, it still is.
Perhaps they’d never lost it at all.

On the topic of weddings and Hasan, I’m thinking of you saying he just spontaneously proposes when you’re carving pumpkins with your niece (I have a niece so that got me) but what if you’re both just at home, he’s been to work out and came back with your favorite coffee/drink of choice and he comes up to bed where you’re still under the covers, probably in an old tee of his and just some undies. Kaya laying on the middle of the bed because she’s Baby! And he proposes, no ring, no plan, nothing. Just that you two know you’d like to marry each other and you’re the one.
He comes to sit on your side and talk, you’ve just been scrolling twitter or TikTok, whatever. He brings in your drink and you’re talking about the day ahead, how his workout was, whatever. When it hits him he wants to do this FOREVER. He wants to wake up to you in his tee shirt, with your guys’ doggy, go workout and bring you your drink, he wants these mornings forever. He wants the quiet evenings you two have when he gets off stream, the cooking dinner and watching a show together. The menial house work you two do together. He wants to take out the trash, reach things from the top tall shelves, go grocery shopping and gripe about your feet being cold in bed, he wants it all.
So he just blurts out “let’s get married” and you both just look at each other for a minute before you say “okay” and he just smushes you into a hug, not carrying he’s sweaty and you have morning breath. The kiss….. god the kiss. It’s so passionate and excited and almost impatient because he needs to be married to you NOW!!
You decide to elope and to get married at the courthouse. No one knows except maybe his mom or Murat and someone from your family/your friends.
You two stop by a jewelry store to get some plain gold bands, tying you together forever. They’re not really attention grabbing, so no one really notices until Hasan is streaming, he’s not wearing any jewelry on his left hand for obvious reasons, he’s a married man now. He’s focused watching something and starts to bite on his nails, then chat sees it. And the internet basically breaks because of you two.
Sorry I got carried away
No, you are so right.
Hasan getting spontaneously engaged/married is something that lives in my head. Like he's not one to rush things, he's okay with chilling in the dating zone for a while, but the minute that he's certain he wants to marry you, he's going to marry you.
He loves you before you move in with, obviously, but after you do he falls even harder for the domestics with you. watching you do your hair, going out grocery shopping, making dinner, cleaning the house, doing laundry, ect.
Chat only mentions it because A) he's wearing far less jewelry on his hand than normal B) it's gold?? He doesn't wear gold rings???
He only acknowledges it as "The ring? Oh, yeah, I'm married." And he tries to just move on from that without further elaborating. Chat bullies him into calling you because they don't believe him.

Curtis and Honey This or That Masterlist
Life Is Short So Make It Sweet Masterlist
Tumblr media
You had plain white mugs at your apartment. Simple mugs with no prints on them that for you seemed unusual to Curtis. You like to have color in your life, make it something you were attached to, and these mugs you just weren’t. Curtis always assumed that was because you just picked up whatever was cheapest when you moved to Minnesota and haven’t gotten around to picking up something more your style.
But shopping one day at the local store picking up some groceries and other odds and ends they needed at the house, he found out how wrong he was. While you two walked down the aisle with the fall pieces catching your attention, you just simply bypassed the entire mug selection with nothing more than a glance at them. Moving swiftly onto the candles.
“Hold up Honey.” He eased you to a stop, backing the two of you up a few steps to stand in front of the mugs once more. An array of cute pumpkins and ghosts, some colorful mushrooms, gnomes, and a whole selection of cups with fall-themed sayings on them. Curtis plucked one up that he thought you would like, showing it to you. “How about a new mug?”
You looked at it and gave a shrug, your face so carefully neutral while looking at the cup in his hand. “I don’t need one Curtis.”
He set it down, looking over them to try and find another one that maybe you would like, even reaching up to grab a Halloween-themed travel mug to see if he could entice you with it. “It’s not about needing one Honey, do you want one.”
You stared at the mug, like you were possibly going to take it but you turned away from it, walking away without another word.
It was weird for Curtis, enough so he set the mug down and went after you. Instead of looking anymore, you were heading towards the checkout. Putting up the array of stuff you both put into your cart. “Honey, baby what was that?” Curtis started to bag while you scanned, catching up to you.
“It’s nothing Curtis, let’s just get this stuff home.” Your demeanor remained off, closed up in a way Curtis hadn’t seen you in ages. You pulled out your credit card, prepared to pay for all of it when Curtis stopped you, slipping his card into the slot first.
“I got it Honey.” He said softly, unsure of what was going on, but it was obvious you were upset about whatever just happened.
You retreated further still during the drive home. When arriving back at the house you started taking care of the groceries without saying much of anything and Curtis no matter what he said, couldn’t get you to engage further but for a couple of words.
By the time the last of it was tucked away from sight, you rubbed at your arm. “I'm gonna head upstairs and lay down for a bit, I feel a headache coming on.”
“Yeah, okay.” Curtis frowned a bit, reaching out to pause you before you headed upstairs. “Is there something wrong, did something happen at the store?” Did I do something wrong was what he wasn’t saying yet, hoping you would open up a bit because truly he was at a loss as to what happened.
You smiled at him, one that didn’t reach your eyes but was still there for his benefit. “No Baby… I’m just feeling eh today.” You leaned up to give a quick peck of a kiss but still pulled away. “Why I’m gonna go rest. How about you go out, and see what the guys are up to? I will be sure to message you later if you’re not home.” You said, starting for the stairs.
Curtis watched you go, your shoulders haunched and you looked withdrawn in your thoughts. There was no chance in hell he was leaving. But he did feel that he had to give you your space, so instead of following you, he settled into his reading chair, plucking up a book and his reading glasses, giving a half-ass attempt to kill time while keeping an eye on the staircase for when you made your way back down, hoping that you would come to talk to him.
It wasn’t till later did you came back down the stairs, hugging around your middle protectively and stopping at a pause near the bottom step. Curtis snapped his book shut, not bothering to mark his spot, and set it aside. It was quiet in the house, the crackle of the fire he had built in the nearby stove keeping the house warm in the later evening.
“Come’ere Honey.” Curtis said softly, a hand patting his lap and you shuffled forward to his arms, letting him ease you to straddle him so you could curl up into his chest while his hands rubbed up and down your back.
You didn’t seem to worry today about being too much, too heavy, if anything you felt small in his hold tonight, your arms tucked in close against him and you cuddled in close. Now he wished he had followed you upstairs but this was something you didn’t want from him before.
“I’m sorry for earlier Curtis.” You finally said, the sadness in your tone making his chest ache with wanting to fix it. His hands never stopped moving up and down your back, but one did travel down to press against the small of your back and shift you in closer. “I froze up in the store and I let something stupid ruin our day.”
“Do you wanna tell me about it?” Curtis pressed his mouth to the top of your head while saying this, touching you and embracing you in all the ways he felt he could give you comfort. You sniffled a bit, silence your answer for a few moments.
“I wanted them Curtis, I loved all of them.” You finally admitted to him, shuffling a bit in his hold till you were tucked into his neck, your anxiety seeming to peak for a moment so Curtis just stayed silent, leaving it open for you to continue when you were ready. “I used to have a whole cupboard full of them, little stupid fun cups that I had collected or were given to me.” Curtis could feel his heart sink, he had a suspicious feeling about what might have happened to your mugs that you must have once cherished and loved, even if now you tried to play them off as stupid.
“Then one day I pissed Jake off, I don’t even remember how, but the asshole decided that for whatever reason I needed to have something taken away I loved. He had always complained about them, that they didn’t fit in with our home and looked tacky. So pretending he was just cleaning up and getting rid of stuff we didn't use, he broke them.”
“All of them?” Curtis rumbled out in disbelief that anyone would be that much of an asshole to someone.
You nodded, all the confirmation he needed. “I found the shards in the garbage before he had a chance to throw them out and say he donated them, which I would have still been sad about, but at least they were being given to someone else. No, he ruined them all. When I asked him about it, he said that he didn't think I would want them anymore and they didn't fit our decor anyways.” You finally lifted away from him, looking so sad and small in the moment as you recalled what your asshole abusive ex did and why it still affected you to this day. “When you showed me those cups, how much you wanted me to have one, it scared me. What if I say yes and then the same thing happens again.” You hiccuped, your tears starting and Curtis would have murdered the man if he could get away with it. Instead, he reached up to cup your face and make you focus on him. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry I’m like this over cups, it’s really stupid of me I know.” you tried pulling away, to hide the tears that you were ashamed of but Curtis now held fast, refusing to let you go and suffer with this by yourself.
“Honey Girl, please look at me and breathe in with me.” He said gently, exaggerating his inhales and exhales so you could follow along till the tears started to slow and you started to relax with him again. “Jake was an absolutely abusive piece of shit and you Honey are still coping with what he did to you.” His thumb brushed across your wet cheek, swiping away some of those tears caught in your lashes. “I’m not Jake, I can promise you with everything I have in my heart that I would never ever put you through that. I will never take something away from you to punish you, break your stuff, or make you scared that your treasured items are not safe with me. I swear to you baby I won't try to hurt you because we might get mad or frustrated with each other. I couldn’t do that to you. I can’t fathom trying to hurt you like that.”
You nodded, using the sleeve of your sweater to rub against your eyes. “I know Curtis, you’re not an asshole like he is. Upstairs I was literally telling myself to stop this, stop feeling this way, to stop thinking like he still is a part of my life.”
“And did that work?” Curtis soothed his hand up and down your arms, wanting to tuck you in close but you had all these feelings to work out and sensed that you were trying to pick through them, in your own way and at your own pace.
“I finally came down to see you.” You plucked at his chain, twirling the pendant in your fingers and rubbing your thumb over the medallion. “Hope you wouldn’t think I was being ridiculous. Are you upset?”
Curtis sighed, in truth he was upset. Not at you, but at the things that had been done to you that still made you feel this way with him. “Not at you Honey, not ever for something you are trying to heal from. I’m upset that this happened to you, that you once had someone in your life who felt he could treat you this way.” He said honestly. “I’m frustrated that I can’t make it all better for you. But that takes time and I can be a patient man when I want to be.” He waited for your answer, hoping that it gave you the closure you needed to end the day better. He was rewarded with a little smile and nod, you letting his necklace rest once more against his chest as if your anxiety finally eased up.
“Thank you Curtis for letting me talk about these things.”
“I want you to tell me everything when you’re ready.”
It was a few weeks later, Curtis happened to notice you making a mug of tea in a cute little ghost cup, something he had never seen before. You were smiling softly to yourself as you went through all the steps it took for you to make your perfect cup of tea, blissful in your own little world at the moment. Curtis didn’t say anything about it, but as he passed you, he paused long enough to kiss the crown of your head in a safe loving gesture.
