last art this year
was supposed to be for pride month but—
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
𝓉𝑜 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒷𝑒𝓉𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒻𝓊𝓉𝓊𝓇𝑒.
some lore surrounding these two that is too long overdue but 🤷♂️
not as detailed and rambly as i’d like it to be, but i’m really burned out and i’m trying to get back to it🧍♂️
nevermind it’s pretty rambly lol
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
all the way back in 2038 Vincent and Ray, after dating for around two years, agreed to leave California together on august 21st — Ragan’s birthday; it was supposed to be his birthday gift of sorts, a start of a new chapter, new life;
buuut Vince, being a little shit teenager, got cold feet (in Ray’s eyes, Vince always justified that as being rational) and ditched him last minute, not showing up in their agreed spot, making Ragan leave on his own after hours of waiting.
this caused Ray to despite his own birthdate, it always reminding him of the heartbreak and betrayal. 🧍♂️
Vincent has felt guilty ever since, but firmly believed it was the right choice. he was never fit to live a nomadic lifestyle at such a young age.
four decades later their paths cross again and a long healing journey ensues.
so now this date is pretty bittersweet to both of them 🧍♂️ but it gets better overtime
basically right person, wrong time
although i think if they did ran away together then, it wouldn’t have ended good at all 🤷♂️ with Vince still being pretty immature emotionally, still struggling with some inner personal things (family stuff, internalized homophobia, etc.) and not familiar with the nomadic culture and ways of living. they’d probably get in bad fights more and more as the time would go on, and eventually split. Vince would’ve decided to go back to Night City probably (if he ever would make it back) and they’d never end up back together has they met in the future.
their separation allowed them to grow and mature on their own, in their own familiar environments, experience different things, and after they met again, after all those years, they put their feelings and mutual attraction to the test
and it turned out they still want each other even with all the imperfections 🧍♂️(i’m not crying you are) they could lie all they want but their brain chemistry couldn’t. Vincent never loved someone they way he loved Ragan, and Ray never quite felt the same way with anyone else like he felt with Vince. there was always something missing, something not quite right. and while they could tell each other they’re looking for something too far out of their reach, that they’re looking for a too perfect partner, in reality they always just wanted each other 🧍♂️
they still have a lot to work on together in their relationship, but now that they’re too old for teenage fights and too tired for heartbreaks, they make compromises and their fights make their bond and their understanding of one another stronger 🧍♂️🧍♂️
like we acknowledge that Vince did a shitty thing by ghosting Ray, going no contact and being a puss, too scared to man up, and tell him face to face ‘hey i can’t go, this type of thing ain’t for me’. he didn’t want to acknowledge that, saying that out loud, or even in his mind, would make that real and that scared him. he was definitely a teen who’d rather avoid doing something he wasn’t comfortable with to not experience the uncomfortable feelings altogether. the avoidant type we all know and love 🧍♂️
and yet Ray still chose to love him 🧍♂️ he’s definitely like ‘this man’s trash but he’s *my* trash’. Vince gets better eventually after Ray finally gets through his thick ass skull.
but also i’m not gonna sit here and say Ragan fixed Vince coz that wasn’t the case 🤷♂️ this is not a ‘i’m gonna fix him’ type of situation. Ragan wasn’t and isn’t perfect either, his perspective was kinda askew as well; can’t quite describe it as i haven’t psychoanalyzed him as much as Vincent but they’re both flawed, make mistakes left and right and learn from that (sooner or later) like human beings 🧍♂️
but in the end they’re just old men in love

“Are you up for rehearsing the play with Sydney and me later today?” to Kylar. (I am enjoying the English play content.)
Kylar's silent. You can see the trepidation on their face. They breathe in deeply, looking up at you with honest eyes.
"I-I guess... I wish you were playing Cass instead of Sydney though,"
They look disgusted as they think further, brows furrowed as their teeth gnaw into their already-bruised bottom lip.
"W-We won't have to kiss though, right? I couldn't imagine kissing anyone o-other than you, m-my love."
They look back to the floor, averting their eyes awkwardly.
"U-Um, why did you pick Sterling again...?"

I was thinking more about the Barbies thing (or "Scarbies" as I think they'd be called in the Boiling Isles). Darius and Raine definitely had dolls as kids and took good care of them. ESPECIALLY Darius.
As a kid Odalia was always secretly jealous of Darius's Barbie collection. She also collected dolls but wouldn't let anyone play with or hold them. If she let's you play with her you have to bring your own dolls, which Darius always does.
Darius WOULD let other kids hold his dolls, BUT they'd have to wash their hands first. And he'd probably not let Alador hold them at all (dirty).
Alador never collected dolls but he's the only person that Odalia would let hold hers because she would force him to play the boyfriend roles.
Eda and Lilith's parents would always make sure to get them matching dolls so there wouldn't be any arguments. But as a kid Eda would DEFINITELY be like that brother that ends up destroying his sister's Barbies. Eda never wants to play a "normal" scenario, she would always come up with some crazy story that involves getting both Lilith and her own dolls absolutely trashed, disfigured, burned, or all of the above.
In a hypothetical Au where Eda and Raine knew each other as young children, Eda would be gentle when it comes to RAINE’S dolls. While Raine would actually think the scenarios Eda comes up with to play sounds fun.
Eda would NEVER want to play romance scenarios (though Lilith was fine with that) unless it was with Raine. I imagine that one day Raine would make their doll kiss Eda's, and baby Eda gets so flustered she runs away.
Just straight up throws the doll and goes to hide in the closet (both metaphorically and physically in this case) leaving baby Raine to wonder what they did wrong.
Perry played with Legos.

wanna ask this cause i really like your fics, and wanna see how you think on this 👀 so a lot of fanon has other links being bitter towards hylia, but wouldn’t it make more sense for sky to have a bitterness/fear of Hylia? considering it was confirmed to his face that he was legit MADE to be a hero, fight demise and had his entire journey manipulated by hylia? and would that cause conganitive dissonance with his relationship with zelda?👀👀👀
HI hi hello :D jksgrzfnhieaklmgrjihdkloifndk THANK YOU SO MUCH, I'M SO GLAD YOU LIKE MY FICS I APPRECIATE YOU SO MUCH <3 <3 <3
you just asked, like, one of my favorite questions ever rjghskgbvjkdehgijk sorry if this gets...long
Ok ok ok ok I COMPLETELY agree with you!!!! I think sky is a man of extremes - he either loves you or he despises you. For the most part, he adores everyone (other than a few key people cough cough ghirahim and demise cough cough). His whole convo with Zelda right before she sealed herself away fucked with him SO MUCH, because suddenly he is trying to cope about the fact that the goddess his entire culture idolizes manipulated him, and what makes it worse is that Zelda is the reincarnation of her.
ANYway, i think he absolutely hates Hylia, yeah! I think he despises her and is so bitter towards her and would be completely fine if she straight-up died! In my mind, he doesn't like any deity, really. He's had enough interactions with gods that he is absolutely comfortable telling them they all suck and he hates them lmao, but that's a tangent. It makes a lot more sense to me if he hated Hylia, but what might make others to disagree is the fact that Zelda was Hylia. Fortunately, I have a solution for that as well!!
When Zelda talks to him right before she seals herself, she mentions that she didn't know, she was happy to be his zelda, etc. So in my brain, after Demise dies, she has a full-on identity crisis (and probably also a "oh my gosh Link probably hates me" Moment cuz she knows him so well) where she's not sure who she is, if she's a goddess or just Zelda, cuz now she has all these memories that she remembers but she didn't experience them (Sun and Wild would be besties and you can't change my mind lol). So i think that Sky couldn't hate Zelda, and so they both work it out and they can both separate Hylia from Zelda and see that they're two different people. So would there be dissonance in their relationship? Sure, briefly, but they love each other and they work it out and both of them dislike Hylia, they're such a power couple and will fight god :D
As for fanon having other Links be bitter towards Hylia, I guess it works?? idk it works at first glance, but then i always remember that they have no fucking clue who Hylia is. Wild knows, obviously, but he's on good terms with her. I just think it's occasionally a little funny to see the Links ragging on Hylia when they canonically don't know she exists.
(my personal hcs are that the Links, especially Ledge and Time who are typically the most outspoken about it in fanon, pretty much just want nothing to do with the gods. They're more focused on the immediate "i can save this person and the world" part. Also, Time has his whole Master Sword thing. but in general, i think that any bitterness towards the gods (most likely the golden goddesses) is pretty surface-level and they don't think much about it. Not a single Link would regret saving the world. I think that's something I don't often see - they chose to be heroes, and they would do it again without hesitation. They just wish it didn't cause so much trauma. However, Warrior having religious trauma due to fighting a war and feeling like he and his soldiers have been abandoned, similar to WW1 soldiers, is just something so important to me :P)
uhhhhh i feel like there's something i missed but idk. I've thought about this A Lot. Actually, if you want to see a really clear-cut example of how I think Sky feels about Hylia, you can check out Smoke & Ashes, which is a LOT of angst so PLEASE BE CAREFUL, but chapters 13 and 14 are very prominently about how they feel about each other (in my head). yes i am shilling, but i love this fic lmao.
hope you have a lovely day, anon!!! tysm :D
