Fun Fact
BuzzFeed published a report claiming that Tumblr was utilized as a distribution channel for Russian agents to influence American voting habits during the 2016 presidential election in Feb 2018.
look ive seen a lot of weird takes about the we didn’t start the fire cover because apparently (?) some people are mad (??) because ‘anyone can put together words that rhyme, they should have put the events in chronological order’ (????) and I’ve decided that look, it doesn’t matter if it’s chronological, because this is it.
It’s events that matter to this generation, and it SHOULDNT sound exactly like billy joel’s version. they’re not going to be billy joel. NO ONE is going to be billy joel. the point of a cover is to make it your own and by making the events out of order it seems more frenzied and crazy, which, to be honest, the events it covers ARE. it IS crazy. and to end with ‘world trade, second plane’? that is INSANE. I got chills. that is a moment that the people who were alive during the event will remember FOREVER. it literally changed the entire course of history and started a spiral of events not only politically but musically as well, starting in an idea and ending in we’ll carry on. It makes perfect sense to end a song about the chaos of the modern and recent world on an event so defining in people’s- relatively recent- lives.
and I saw this pointed out too (I believe by @thekintsugikid) and I wanted to mention it. fall out boy says, ‘we’re trying to fight it.’ In Billy’s version, he said ‘we tried to fight it.’ and look. we are trying. The world is going to shit. We’re all going to die someday, probably in some gruesome way. but we’re trying. we’re trying to fight it. we have hope, this younger generation. we won’t give up. we will survive. persistence, I think, is the biggest part of glory.
and so, it just means something to me. it doesn’t have to be in chronological order. it doesn’t have to be perfect. the boys had fun, and that’s what matters, but I really think that the cover does reflect us overall
Me: hey based off what hes told us abt his experiences and what he refers to himself as and how he says he feels alienated from every community he's part of it'd be better and more respectful to call pete wentz mixed than to decide what racial group he Belongs to for him
Americans who think the word mixed is a slur: into the pit with you
i keep getting tiktoks of these younger gen z kids referencing a time they did something relating to fandom in public and now they're embarrassed by it and everytime i see one i sit there thinking over all of middle and high school and having genuinely 0 moments that i feel embarrassed by, like i definitely did a lot of shit these kids would be embarrassed by but i think these are all just really fucking funny
also photographic evidence of the kinda kid i was. these are from 2014/15 when i was in 8th grade
-desolation row one shot(still on wattpad gerard way/reader smut)
-twerk it on (mcr crack fanfic no longer on wattpad but i have another fic in my library called twerking in taco bell which definitely ALSO used for my reading log)
-frank iero must die(a serial killer/assassin frerard fic, still on wattpad)
-hair (really vague maybe a phanfic? nowhere in my wattpad library rip)
my binder i used in 7th grade i had a blue one that looked pretty similar to this for 8th grade but idk where it went, also the parts i scribbled out are my full legal name i had written on it. i wrote it normally and then the big spot is where i wrote my name REALLY BIG in elysian code from the vladimir tod books. also the lines are from when i used an exacto knife to cut up some papers and forgot that my binder was underneath
in conclusion yall can now see why im so shameless about talking about shigaraki the way i do
“the idea of that, of being adjacent to what's happening right now but not going and trying to like rehash something really informed this record.”
lessons from Green Day (both while on Hella Mega and in the early days), the idea of adjacency and inspiration vs “hello fellow kids” (ft patrick), and the important of authenticity in music.
okay but what i will say is that i do see a faction of the mcr fanbase that do not engage at all with fob except to make petekey jokes, and like yeah i get it, it’s just a fun piece of fan lore that’s been passed around and if you don’t engage with fob at all, you wouldn’t see the harm in reducing their discography down to “haha it’s about mikey.” however i do implore you to at least read up and about their body of work, even if the music isn’t for you, as they deal with extremely complex, complicated and difficult subject matter, most of which is specific to pete’s experiences with racism, mental illness, exploitation, etc. his lyricism is something that cannot be removed from these experiences. his influence on the scene is so so fucking immense. he is a huge reason we saw so much genre crossover and exchange in the late 2000s, and i really need you to know how important it was that he consistently found ways to expose a majority white audience to black musicians, black lyricism, and black genres. you’re crashing but you’re no wave is about the trial of fred hampton jr. novocaine is about trayvon martin. he consistently references his own mental illness. he consistently references his own suicide attempt. he consistently discusses and points to the exploitation of women in our culture. he is an extremely influential figure and sometimes it’s a real shame to see him reduced down to a fan in-joke.
Far as I can tell, the Disaster is meant to be Dirty, Martin is Patrick, the Animal is Andy, and Joe is conspicuously lacking a stand-in. Also Her is Jeanae, from what I've read (although I'll admit I don't know much about her as a person, and the ending deviates quite drastically from reality in that regard)
I feel like some of this is wrong but I'm in no position to dispute it
see emo musicians are the perfect proof that you don’t have to have a marketable name to be popular. i mean sure harry styles was somehow magically born with the name ‘styles’ and he’s famous but it’s nice to know that you can have a cringefail name like gerard or a horrible surname like stump or wentz and still be qualified as famous and amazing
no okay so. I'm so sorry but not really (I am the worst liar I know) tell the boys where to find my body (hand over my heart gun to my head I swear to God I'm through with it). I'm a canary you're a coal mine (it's not gossip if it's the truth) 'cause sorrow is just all the rage (who's the girl is this truth or is he writing fiction?). do you get it yet?
pete wentz talks about how the legacy he wants for fall out boy is for it to be its own genre, often citing metallica as an example. you don't describe their style of music, it's just metallica. fall out boy strive to be the same and arent genre bound. anyway big libra mood because im the same on a personal level
