“I just think that maybe you should stop avoiding him,” Nami started. You bit your cheek, ignoring her as you tied up the last of the ship’s rigging into a careful knot. Nami had been going on for the past few minutes, and you’d zoned out exactly three seconds in, when the name Zoro had first been spoken. Because of this reason you weren’t really listening, so you blinked up at her in confusion.
“Sorry? Who am I avoiding?”
“You’re impossible,” Nami grumbled. “And you know exactly who I’m talking about.” Which, well, fair. The math added up: you heard the word Zoro, you stopped listening, Nami continued talking until she realized you’d stopped listening. “Especially since you’re, you know—” she gave you another look, eyes rolling over to stare dead into yours— “Avoiding him.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” you said innocently. Nami sighed, leaning over to tug the rope dangling from your hands out of your grip. You tried to reach back for it, but she didn’t let you. “Hey!”
“Yes, you do. Face it. You’re avoiding Zoro.”
You made a face at her. “I think there are ropes on the foredeck that I can attend to.”
“No, there aren’t,” Nami answered. “Now stop changing the subject. There’s this wild concept called communication. It works wonders.”
“Says you,” you muttered, though your arms crossed defensively across your chest. You noticed the action after a split-second and unwound your arms with a scowl. “Look, I just don’t see the point. And I haven’t been avoiding him.”
You were, in fact, avoiding him. Ever since that dreadful night a week ago when Nami had gotten you tipsy and stuck her hand in your chest cavity fishing for secrets, you’d been avoiding him. The other girl was ridiculously good at prying truths out of you, and during the conversation, you’d accidentally spilled your crush on the Straw Hat crew’s resident swordsman.
You’d managed to keep the secret for the months you’d been together, wherein the unfortunate feelings had developed, and you should’ve figured once somebody knew they wouldn’t leave you alone about it. Because Nami refused to talk about literally anything else. You’d expected this sort of behavior from Luffy, or maybe Sanji, but Nami? The world was more amatonormative than you'd thought.
Nami cast you a look. “You’re blushing.”
“Am not.”
“Are too. What’s the harm in talking to him?” Nami demanded, one hand on her hip as she stared you down. You gaped at her.
“Um, literally everything? One, Zoro can’t talk about feelings or emotions for shit, so when he rejects me it’ll be in the most excruciating, offhand manner that will probably leave me at the bottom of a barrel of rum, two, after being rejected I’m going to have to leave the Straw Hats, three—”
Nami rolled her eyes, looking increasingly fed up with you. “For someone so obsessed with not telling our resident grass-headed swordsman about your feelings for him, you’re talking rather loudly.”
You shut up, snapping your jaw closed with a glare. “Stop it,” you hissed.
“Besides, who knows if he actually will reject you?” Nami turned to work on the next section of rigging, glancing over her shoulder at you. “You’re catastrophizing.”
“I’m being realistic,” you snapped. “Okay, fine. He reciprocates my feelings. Then what? We date, we break up because all relationships eventually end, it becomes awkward, and—voila—I’ll have to leave the Straw Hats anyway. It’s a bad idea all around.”
Nami just let out a huff of breath, the exhale laced with irritation. “Catastrophizing,” she repeated.
“I am not—”
“Sure. Go help Sanji with dinner.”
You gave her an exasperated look, but at this point Nami wasn’t paying attention anymore, so you stormed off into the underbelly of the Going Merry. Speak of the devil, apparently, because once you entered the kitchen you spotted not only Sanji occupying it but also Zoro. He was lounging at the table, swords strapped to his waist and a bottle of something he was nursing in hand.
You averted your gaze from him, head running a million miles a minute. Had he noticed you’d been avoiding him? You’d tried to be furtive about it, but if Nami had noticed, maybe—
“Well, hello there,” Sanji called from where he was in the midst of dinner preparations. “Come to help?”
“Nami sent me,” you said, crossing your arms over your chest. “I think she’s appointed herself queen of the Going Merry.”
“Oh, she did that long ago,” Sanji chided. “You’re only noticing it now. Pick up a knife, then. I’d like some help dicing the carrots.”
You stiffly moved over to the counter, ignoring Zoro as you went even as you felt his gaze following your figure. You picked up the first knife you found, positioning yourself in front of the cutting board to start dicing the vegetables already laid out for you. Abruptly, Zoro stood up.
“Heading out,” he muttered. “Call me when dinner’s ready.”
With that, he left the room, leaving you and Sanji to exchange looks. “He’s moody today,” you said.
“Probably ‘cause you’ve been avoiding him.”
You felt the familiar pinprick of a blush starting to warm your cheeks. “You too?”
“You’re rather obvious about it,” Sanji said with a raised eyebrow. “But enough of that.” Weirdly enough, he didn’t seem to question why. There was no way Nami had told him, so you were left confused, but no matter. The point was that for now, you were safe.
The hour dipped to evening, and soon the moon was glowing in the sky, a shining beacon of white amidst the ocean of stars and shimmering sea. You suppressed a yawn, busing the dishes from dinner as the rest of the crew got up from their respective seats to dissolve to their own rooms. Zoro had already retired for the night—if you were avoiding him, he seemed to be doing the exact same—so at least you didn’t have that to worry about.
“Ah, wait,” Nami said, after you’d finished washing the dishes and was ready to head out. “Zoro wants to talk to you.”
You jolted, glancing nervously around you before grabbing her wrist. “What did you do?” you hissed. Nami just laughed.
“Calm down. I didn’t do anything.” Off your glare, she relented. “I promise. And I swear it’s not about feelings or emotions or whatever. Even though it’s obvious you’re avoiding him, you know Zoro wouldn’t say anything.”
You were still suspicious, but you dropped your hand. “What, then?”
Nami shrugged, tilting her chin up just so. “I guess you’re going to have to find out.”
“I don’t trust you,” you muttered. There was that look in her eye, the one she got whenever she was thinking of something truly devious. Still, you couldn’t figure out what she was up to, so— “Fine, I’ll go to his room. Walk me.”
Nami rolled her eyes, but she fell into step with you as you made your way across the ship. “You should bring it up to him, you know,” she started, but silenced after your sharp glare. “Okay, okay. I get the point. I’ll stop bothering you about it.”
You stopped by the mouth of Zoro’s door. “Wait, really?”
“Yes, really,” Nami said with an exaggerated roll of her eyes. She leaned against the wall beside the door, arms crossing over her chest. “I’ll leave you alone about Mr. Prince Charming over there. Knock.”
“You can't call him Mr. Prince Charming,” you said, though you did knock. “Prince’ is already a title.”
Nami gave you a look. “Okay, smart-ass.”
The door creaked open before you could give your response, and you turned, heart pounding in your throat as Zoro stared down at you. His arm was propped up by the open doorway, the other hand still clutching the doorknob. “What.”
“Um, Nami said that you wanted to talk—” you swiveled your head towards the other girl, but before you could finish your sentence, Nami was raising up your arm and unceremoniously shoving you into the room.
You shrieked in surprise as you fell into Zoro’s figure, stumbling into him and causing him to lose his balance. Your head shot up in offense, only to see the gleam of a golden padlock in Nami’s hand before she was yanking the door closed.
A dull click echoed through the room. The only thing you could hear for a few seconds was your own heavy breathing and the sound of Zoro gathering himself.
“Did she just—” You gaped at the closed door. “Lock us in?”
Zoro swiftly pushed past you, jiggling the doorknob for a few moments before giving up. Sure enough, Nami had sealed it with the padlock from the outside, so there was no possibility of either of you getting out of the room. You could vaguely hear sounds from the outside—dull thuds and scrapes—and watched as Zoro started banging on the door.
“Nami,” he called, voice dangerously low. “Let us out.”
“Sorry, Zoro!” Your jaw practically unhinged from your skull once you heard your captain’s familiar voice, all bright and cheerful like always. “We’re putting barrels in front of the door, so don’t even try breaking it down. Have a good night!”
“Luffy? What are you—” Zoro’s knocking quickened in pace, his voice getting increasingly louder. There was no response from outside, though you could hear snickers that sounded suspiciously like Usopp. What was going on?
You kicked into action, joining Zoro by the door and trying the door handle again. “Nami!” you yelled.
Nami’s soft laugh came from outside. “Sorry!” she called. “We’ll let you out in the morning.”
You gaped at the door, only aware of Zoro’s gaze sliding down to you as you dropped your hand from the doorknob. There were some more tigers from outside, and then receding footsteps. Zoro tried knocking one last time, but it was evident that the rest of the crew had all but abandoned you.
“Okay,” Zoro muttered, moving away from the door. “I need a drink.”
You watched him move across the room, picking up a glass from his bedside table that was only slightly full. He knocked it back in one swallow, Adam’s apple bobbing with the motion. “Um, what now?” you asked uncomfortably.
“Nothing. Whatever,” Zoro said, turning to glance over at you. After a moment’s thought, you noticed that he refused to look you in his eye—his gaze was firmly trained at a spot beside your head. He turned away, stripping off his sword scabbard and setting them on the floor.
You glanced around nervously. Zoro’s room wasn’t that different from yours, really—less decorated, but the constitution was the same. There was the bed, a wardrobe, a desk with various paraphernalia across it, and a little couch in the corner too. “You can look through the closet for something to sleep in. I’ll take the chair.”
The words didn’t register at first, and you were left standing there, staring as Zoro kicked off his shoes and assumedly started getting ready to sleep. “Um, what?”
Zoro glanced over his shoulder. He still wouldn’t look you in the eye. “They’re not letting us out until morning,” he said slowly. “You can take the bed. Might as well sleep.”
“It’s your room,” you started, crossing your arms. “I can sleep in the chair. I’m smaller than you, anyway, so I’ll fit it better.”
Zoro regarded you with such a reproachful look you almost wanted to laugh. “That’s ridiculous. Change.” With that, he turned around, leaving no room for discussion. You stared at him for a second before giving up, moving to his wardrobe and opening it up to search for something to sleep in.
“So, uh, any ideas on why they stuck us in here?” You asked, although you already knew the answer. Whatever Nami thought locking you in a room with Zoro would achieve, you were stubbornly not going to let her be right. God, you were so going to kill her once you got out of there.
“Nope,” Zoro said, with such a degree of finality you figured it wouldn’t be safe to question him further. “They’re just stupid.”
“I mean, I feel like they would have a motive?” You rifled through his clothes, trying very hard to detach them from their owner. Wearing Zoro’s clothes was not something you wanted your mind to linger upon. Eventually you found a shirt of his that would undoubtedly be oversized on you, and you hastily changed into it, satisfied to find it draped well to your knees so you weren’t exposing too much skin.
You stole a glance over your shoulder at Zoro, only to catch him in the action of peeling his shirt off. The stretch of the muscles in his back gleamed in the dim light of the room, and you tore your gaze away, heat rushing to your face. “Um. Anything?”
“Nope,” Zoro repeated. Carefully, you closed the wardrobe door, lingering in one spot with your hands clenched together. Once you heard him start moving again, you deemed it safe enough to turn towards the rest of the room. He’d changed into a loose tan shirt, and had settled back into the chair.
“I said I’d take the chair,” you told him hotly.
“Yeah, and I said no,” Zoro said, tone dismissive. He had his eyes closed, and you stared at him in disbelief.
“I’m not sleeping in your bed,” you said, and then, just to emphasize your point, plopped down on the floor. Zoro cracked an eye open and stared down at you. He sighed.
“Get up. Don’t be stupid.”
“I’m not being stupid,” you said. “It’s your room. It’s your bed. You will sleep on it. If you’re not giving me the chair, I’ll sleep on the floor.”
Zoro let out a long sigh, closing both his eyes as if he was contemplating all his life decisions. “I’m not sleeping in the bed, you know,” he said.
“Okay, so neither of us do.”
Zoro’s brows creased, and he opened his eyes to glare down at you. “Seriously? At least take the chair, then. I’ll sleep on the flo—”
You gave him a sharp look. “Zoro.”
“This conversation isn’t getting anywhere,” Zoro muttered, and finally got up from his chair. You glanced up at him expectantly. “What can I do to convince you to take the bed?”
“Uh, nothing.”
“We can work out a compromise,” Zoro said with a sigh. “I want you on it, and you want me on it, and neither of us are willing to take it ourselves.” He paused, brow creasing as an idea seemed to form in his head—one he didn’t seem to be a giant fan of, but an idea nonetheless. “How about.” His lips pursed, before he parted them again to finish his sentence. “How about we both take it?”
It felt like someone had hit you square in the chest, air kicking out of your lungs and leaving you gasping for breath. Your windpipe was all raw, and you had to fight to tear any words out from your throat. “Ex—excuse me?”
“It’s big enough,” Zoro said stiffly, though his hands were clenched at his sides. “I can take one side and you can take the other. Since you’re so dead-set on me sleeping on it.”
“I—” You cut yourself off, suddenly far too aware of Zoro’s eyes fixed on you. Watching your every move. Oh, Nami was in for it now. How were you supposed to survive sleeping in the same bed as—you didn’t even want to think about it.
“Well?” Zoro prompted.
“Fine,” you agreed hastily, ducking your head lest Zoro catch any of the flush that was undoubtedly rising steadily up your cheeks. It was bad enough you were stuck in his bedroom and wearing his clothes—but this had quickly become your own personal circle of hell. “Good enough for me.”
“Finally.” With that, Zoro climbed into bed, settling himself on the very edge of its side. Your throat had gone dry, and you stared at him for another second before hurriedly turning away to flick the lights off. You approached the other side of the bed with an extreme lack of enthusiasm, staring at the empty sheets like they were cackling up at you. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Eventually you slid into the bed, busying yourself with arranging the blankets around your figure. Zoro’s breaths were steady and deep from beside you. You didn’t know what to do for a second, but then Zoro’s voice was cutting through the darkness. “You’ve been avoiding me.”
You jolted, then suppressed your sigh. “Have not.”
“Yes, you have, and everyone knows it, and you’re not very subtle,” Zoro said, sounding almost bored as he rattled off the words. “Why.”
“I haven’t—”
“Don’t.”
You ran your tongue along your teeth, sucking at the valleys between them in annoyance. “It’s not important.”
Zoro paused before speaking, like he was mulling over asking the question. “Did I do something?”
“What? No.” You shook your head, despite knowing he wouldn’t be able to see. The sound did well enough to indicate the action to him, though—he scoffed, a low murmur from his chest that buzzed through your nerves. “I don’t want to talk about this. You’re giving the rest of the crew what they want.”
“They definitely did not lock you in here to talk about why you’re avoiding me,” Zoro muttered. Now it was your turn to scoff, because if only he knew. “Are you sure I didn’t do anything?"
“Positive. It’s all me.”
“Okay, so why?” Zoro prompted. You swallowed hard, trying to dodge around the subject. “Are you sure—”
“Please just stop talking,” you said, one hand reaching out to grip his arm as if the physical contact would make him shut up. There was a stagnant moment of silence, your breath catching as your brain caught up to your body. Your hand was on Zoro’s arm. Your hand was on Zoro’s bicep, and you were in his bed.
You cleared your throat, a panicked choke bursting from your lungs. “Um.” Your eyes skittered sideways, and then you finally turned on your side to stare at him. To stare at where your hand was still clutched around his arm.
You could just barely make out the angle of his jaw in the darkness, but you could see it was clenched, the vein along his neck protruding just slightly. Hastily, you removed your hand, the skin of your fingers tingling like you could still feel him underneath the tips. “Sorry. Why—why are you so certain that you did something for me to avoid you?”
There were a few moments of silence that ticked by, nothing but the rock of the ship interrupting it. Finally, Zoro spoke. “Because the reason they locked you in my room is because—”
“What? The reason they locked me in your room is because of me,” you said. Zoro finally moved from his position, head tilting to face yours so you were eye-to-eye. You swallowed. “Nami, um—Nami specifically forced me in here so I would… talk to you.”
There was a question evident in Zoro’s voice. “About?”
Your lips parted, and then closed again. “Um.”
“We can just sleep, if you want,” Zoro muttered.
“What if they don’t let us out in the morning because we haven’t talked, though?” you hissed. Zoro let out a low laugh.
“You realize you’re giving them exactly what they want.”
“So you’d be more comfortable if we just… fell asleep?” you asked. Zoro shrugged. Since you weren’t exactly averse to the idea of not confessing, you nodded in agreement, heart beating a million miles a second. “Okay. Fine by me.”
You settled back into your pillow, but soon came to realize that, due to the fluttering butterflies in your stomach and the fact you were very aware of the man of your affections being barely a foot to your right, you could not sleep. Evidently Zoro felt the same way, because he kept shifting around under the blankets—your hands brushed against each other a few times before he jolted away like you’d burnt him.
“Sorry,” you muttered. Zoro didn’t say anything in response. Somewhere in the back of your head, you could hear Nami hissing at you—I didn’t shove you in a room with Mr. Prince Charming just for you to not take advantage of the opportunity. You tried to get her out of your brain—it was a bad idea all around—but the words kept reverberating around in your mind until you found yourself suddenly speaking. “Zoro?”
“Hm?”
“Nami stuck me in here so I would tell you that, um—”
“You don’t have to say it,” Zoro murmured, and you shivered, his voice sounding suddenly closer. You squirmed, your hand brushing against Zoro’s again, except this time it took him a delayed moment to drift away. He had gotten closer—or maybe that was you, instinctually leaning towards the dip in the middle of the bed when you’d been lost in thought.
“The reason they locked me in here with you is so I would tell you about my feelings towards you,” you blurted, the words slurring together, consonants and syllables all in one rush. “Because I have them. Feelings, I mean.”
Zoro’s voice was very low when he spoke. “Excuse me?”
You sat straight up, the blankets previously nestled around your chin falling to your waist. “I have feelings for you and that’s why everyone locked me in here.”
“I—” Zoro coughed, and then coughed again, ridding his throat of whatever was preventing him from making full sentences. He slowly sat up, and you stared down at the blankets in your lap as you saw him rise to his full height beside you. And oh, this was it. He was about to reject you in the most excruciating, offhand manner that would probably leave you at the bottom of a barrel of rum. “That’s not possible.”
“Why is that—” you decided to shut up instead of finishing your sentence, allowing him to speak instead. There was a soft burning starting at your skin, all red hot, and your brain buzzed, regret filling up your lungs and making it hard to breathe.
Zoro didn’t say anything, but you heard his hand before you felt it. It slid across the bedsheets before finally resting beside yours, fingertips grazing against your knuckles. “Zoro?” you whispered.
“The reason they locked you in here with me is so I would tell you about my feelings towards you,” Zoro said blankly. You blinked. It took you a moment to realize that he wasn’t just quoting you—that he hadn’t switched the pronouns accordingly. Your heart dropped.
Your voice was very faint when you spoke. “What?”
“I like you,” Zoro said carefully. Languidly, the words dripping off his tongue all saccharine-sweet like molasses, or honey. You shivered, your hand accidentally knocking against his, and he took the opportunity to draw it in closer, fingers pushing up your palm, just a hair’s breadth away from interlacing with yours. “Luffy unfortunately found out. He doesn’t know how to keep a secret and told the rest of the crew.”
You gaped at him. “I like you,” you said, dumbfounded. You could feel yourself trembling, fingers sliding against Zoro’s hand with every shake. “Nami yanked it out of me. Which is why I’ve been avoiding you for the past week.”
“I thought you were avoiding me because you found out I liked you,” Zoro muttered. His fingertips brushed against the pads of your hand, and you swallowed, mouth all dry. “So.”
You tentatively lifted your gaze, finding Zoro’s eyes even amidst the darkness. They were shining, a slight glint from the moon coming in through the window reflecting along the shadows of his face. Carefully, his hand slid fully into yours, fingers lacing together, and it was like the final piece of a puzzle clicking into place.
Zoro slid back down onto his back, tugging you along with him. You settled back on your pillow, using your other hand to pull the blankets back over your chest. For a full stagnant minute the two of you lay there, hands intertwined in the space between.
You were the one who made the first move, then, thumb running up and down the length of his index finger. Zoro ran with the action, tugging your hand just slightly until you were leaning into the dip of the mattress, gravity pulling you closer to his body.
He lifted your entwined hands, tugging you towards him until your back was pressed right to his chest. Then he settled your arms back down again, the back of his palm resting against your belly.
You swallowed hard, able to hear the sound of your throat in the utter silence. Zoro exhaled, his breath softly brushing against your neck. “Good night,” you whispered.
Zoro pressed a soft kiss to the nape of your neck, a ghost of something that left tingles fluttering down your spine, the drunken butterflies in your stomach swaying at the action. “Good night,” he murmured, and your breath caught.
He was warm, oh so warm, like a campfire with licks of flame that softened your hands in the dead of night. And even though you wanted to speak up, question when he’d started liking you, if he was lying or not—you were content to stay here in his arms and drift off to sleep.
So you did, settling back into his embrace with your head spinning and senses murmuring, all dizzy like you were caught in a dream. Eventually, your tiredness got the better of you, and you felt your senses fading as the world around you darkened to black.
The two of you jolted awake to the knocking and the very unpleasant hum of Nami’s voice. “Rise and shine!” she called through the door, and you blinked, bleary eyes adjusting to the light as you suppressed your yawn.
Zoro jolted up beside you, practically giving you whiplash as his arm was still comfortably around your waist. Your fingers tingled, and you realized that you’d fallen asleep with your hands laced together.
“Nami,” you grumbled, about to rise out of bed before Zoro stopped you. You turned towards him in question, only to stop short as you registered the look in his eyes. His gaze was deep, piercing; those butterflies rose up again in your stomach, apparently awake after they’d passed out from their drunken stupor. You swallowed. “Hi?”
“Hey,” he murmured. “They locked you in my room.”
“I’m going to knock Nami over the head with a rowboat oar,” you said blandly, eyes flickering towards the door, which Nami was still pounding on. You vaguely heard shuffling sounds, like the crew were working to move the barrels they’d stuck in front of the door to free you from your prison. “You can have the rest of them, if you want.”
“I’ll take you up on that offer,” Zoro agreed. “But first…”
“First?” you prompted.
Zoro brought your hands—still intertwined—to his mouth, pressing a gentle kiss along your knuckles. “Good morning,” he said, voice low and awkward, like he wasn’t used to letting the words out of his mouth. He let your hands drift to his lap, leaning forward until his forehead brushed against yours.
A faint sigh escaped your lips when he finally kissed you. It wasn’t rough or hard; it was a soft press, like your hands had been just a few hours ago. There was a degree of finality to it; a held-in breath that’d exhaled from your lungs, one you hadn’t realized was building up that much pressure until you finally let it all go.
The door flung open, and you jolted away, but Zoro tilted your head back towards him before you could. At the mouth of the room, Luffy had started screaming. “Aww,” Nami cooed. Behind her, Usopp and Sanji were gripping onto each other like they were watching a particularly engaging fight.
A steady blush rose along your cheeks, but Zoro was absolutely shameless, the hand not held in yours raising up to give them the finger. “Get out of my room.”
“Told you it’d be okay,” Nami sing-songed, and then you really did break away from Zoro, picking up the object nearest to you and barrelling towards her. She shrieked, dodging out of the doorway as Zoro laughed from behind you.
“Wait!” she stopped you from whacking your pillow against her head, raising up her arms in defense. “I was right. I saw you two—”
“Nami,” you started, dangerously low. “You locked me in his room.”
“Yeah, to help you!” she cried defensively, slowly taking backwards steps as you gained on her. “Come on. We can talk about this.”
“Good luck,” Zoro called out from behind you—you turned around, catching his gaze. He had gotten up, leaning against the doorway and watching you with a sparkle of fondness in his eye. “You’ll need it.”
You blew him a kiss, ignoring the long groan it pulled out of Luffy from beside Zoro in the hallway. And then you turned around. Nami had darted off, taking the time you’d been distracted to run off. “Oh no you don’t!” you yelled, and then lunged after her with Zoro laughing all the while.
Maybe it hadn’t been such a bad thing, you thought. But you were still going to beat Nami’s ass.

Read Chapter 1 here. Set in Wano. Spoiler warning for the First Act of Wano.
***
The night must be scratching the midnight mark when the ambient noise of the Wasteland finally falls silent. Within Tsuru’s tea house, all that can be heard is Tama’s breathing, soft and even in her slumber, and the quiet sound of cloth on metal.
One by one, Roronoa Zoro cleans his swords, hands in constant motion and mind calm. The girl is at his back, the only entrance straight ahead.
Little has changed in the past hour.
Shusui is the last to go, its black blade speckled with blood and residue bits of straw. In the dim light afforded by the lamp next to him, Zoro’s eye runs along the sharpened edge with precision. No scratches, no tears, no damage whatsoever.
Zoro’s mouth twitches upwards. Good.
The blade sings under his care as it accepts the oil and the gentle swipe of fabric that follows it. Zoro doesn’t have to ponder each individual step – his body has executed these very same movements for most of his life – but being mindful of it… helps, on days both good and bad.
Beside him, a door slides open with the whisper of paper on wood. Shuffling steps come closer, straw against straw. Today has been an excellent day.
“Still asleep”, Zoro reports without looking up from his task. “Fever’s getting better, too.”
A hand settles on his shoulder; it’s warm, fitting the mountains and valleys of Zoro’s muscles like it always belongs there. After a bit of shuffling, a back nudges his own.
Zoro smiles and continues. He’s almost done.
“That tea really worked, huh? I’m glad.”
Leaning against Zoro, Luffy isn’t much of a weight but significant still. He sounds exhausted, now that it’s just the two of them.
“Yeah. Still, Chopper should take a look.” A beat. Zoro hums. “…Wherever he is right now.”
A huff of breath, the kind that precedes a smile. “He’s safe, don’t worry. Sanji’s with him and the others.”
Zoro sheathes Shusui and sets it aside. Hm. Luffy’s head comes to rest against his right shoulder, his hair feathering across Zoro’s skin. It’s crusty with dried salt and carries the scent of the sea.
“You’re really not gonna ask, are ya?”
Jackass. “He’s here. ‘s all I need to know.”
Luffy snickers, as he always does.
“Stubborn. Well, there’s no need to fuss. Sanji apologized and everything. He made that sea king rice stuff, you know the one?” Zoro does. Luffy’s stomach growls. “So yummy…”
Fantasizing about food won’t do them much good. Zoro lets his head knock against Luffy’s (carefully, although his captain is rubber and there’s no real need to). I’m not fussing, he doesn’t say.
They have bigger fish to fry than their moronic cook. It’s… good to know he’s back, regardless.
Luffy hums under his breath, sounding sleepier by the minute. “How’s everyone? You guys got here okay?”
“Yeah, we’re good. Got a bit cramped in Traffy’s submarine but we managed.” An amused chuckle falls from Zoro’s mouth. “Turns out the Hearts are just a bunch of dorks. Strong and loyal but… I don’t know what I expected, with a captain that cynical.”
“Hah! Traffy’s a dork, too.”
“True.”
They share a grin, quick and easy. Personally, Zoro can’t wait for the two captains to meet again; seeing Law so full of himself and not a perpetual hair’s breadth away from strangling someone was pretty boring, all things considered.
Then Luffy exhales a sigh, content. “He’s got his crew back, though. That’s good.”
And perhaps it’s because they haven’t seen each other in weeks, haven’t had time to sit like this and exist for a while – Zoro hears a touch of melancholy in there, too, and sympathy twists at his core.
“Let’s find the others tomorrow, ‘kay? Without, uh, wrecking Kin’emon’s plan.”
Luffy nods against Zoro’s shoulder, a gentle motion. “Mhmm.”
The night ticks on. The need to move builds slowly, a numb tingling that crawls up his legs like a colony of ants, and yet Zoro sits patiently. Luffy is quiet for a while, dozes off, startles himself awake again.
“It’s past midnight”, Zoro tells him.
Luffy mumbles something resembling an affirmative. Zoro raises a brow, even though the other can’t see it. Who’s the stubborn one now?
“Go to sleep, Captain. I’m on first watch, remember?”
“No… Wanna talk t’Zoro.”
Zoro sighs and he doesn’t fight the way those words that curl themselves around his heart, warm and safe. Luffy could do terrifying things with that sweet-talking of his: a downright absurd thought, given the guy can barely tell manipulation from truth even when his life depends on it.
“I’m not going anywhere, idiot. Let’s talk in the morning.”
Nothing.
“Luffy.”
“Mmm?”
“I mean it.”
A long, whiny exhale. “Fine but you gotta come with me.”
“Sure”, Zoro nods. He blinks. “Wait, what do y–?”
And just like that, Luffy’s up and wrapping an arm multiple times around Zoro’s waist. Before he can as much as squawk, Zoro is lifted effortlessly as if he’s a lazy, overgrown dog – he has to pick up his legs so they don’t drag noisily across the tatami mat floor and oh, mutiny is suddenly such an appealing concept. Zoro hisses, “Luffy”, low and indignant; Luffy’s laugh is hushed, breathed right against his ear–
My swords, it’s a stray thought, an important one if he’s to do his duty properly. Zoro pats Luffy’s hand with some urgency. One rubber-stretched grab later, the swords are clutched safely against his chest.
A few feet from where Tama’s sleeping off her fever, two neatly-folded futons wait to be claimed; Zoro is deposited on one of them (which immediately topples under his weight, only his quick reflexes preventing an ungraceful fall). He witnesses Luffy destroy Tsuru’s hard work by half-heartedly spreading his own mattress-and-duvet combination, burrowing into the covers like a hog through forest ground.
With one final huff, Luffy stills. Sleepy, half-lidded eyes shine in the dark.
“…Zoro?”
Scratching his neck, Zoro sets out to fix his own futon. He folds it out against Luffy’s, quiet hands working to smooth out the ruffles and tuck in the edges there as he goes. Carefully, Zoro reaches into the pile of blankets that is Luffy to pull out the hat that’s been haplessly smooshed in the process. It’s placed on the very edge of Luffy’s bed, within easy reach.
Eyes closed, Luffy makes a pleased noise and snuggles into his pillow. Zoro huffs fondly and ruffles his hair.
“I’m right here. Rest.”
Luffy drops off to sleep a moment after and so Zoro settles in for the night, pillow propped against a nearby wall next to his swords and a blanket thrown over his crossed legs.
*
The sky lightens with the tender touches of dawn and Zoro shifts, pulls away from deep meditation to hear the change in Luffy’s breathing. Snoring is followed by a sudden snort and drowsy mumbling.
Monkey D. Luffy always wakes with the sun, no matter over which horizon it rises.
Just in time, too, with how heavy Zoro’s lids feel every time he blinks. Suppressing a yawn, he rolls his neck and stretches his back, and his spine pops between his shoulders. The last remnant of battle along with the satisfying ache in his arms and hands – it’s been a while since Zoro got to draw a sword and mean it.
Tama is still snoozing and thus Zoro doesn’t bother to get on his feet properly. Half-shuffling, half-crawling, he leans over the crown of Luffy’s head. “Oi.”
“Huh?” Luffy glances up through tousled strands. His grin is immediate, a little crinkled with sleep. “Oh. My turn!”
Mhm, Zoro makes around a small smile.
It’s been awhile since it was just them and nobody else yet this routine is still familiar: Luffy grabs his hat and hops to his feet, going from slumber to fully awake in seconds, and Zoro takes his place, choosing Luffy’s pre-warmed futon over his own. He has about a minute to get comfortable before – oof – Luffy throws himself against his side, arms crossed and elbows digging into Zoro’s ribs and midriff respectively.
“Captain”, Zoro grumbles.
“Uncomfortable?”
“… No.”
Luffy chuckles. “Zoro’s going easy on me.”
“Don’t get used to it.”
“Missed ya too”, Luffy sing-songs, and Zoro doesn’t have to look to know he’s grinning, the cheeky bastard.
After that, Luffy keeps himself busy, tinkering with Zoro’s earrings for a moment before he turns to the back of Zoro’s hand to doodle mindless circles with his finger. Breath by breath, Zoro finds himself slipping closer and closer to sleep.
“Ace was here, y’know?”
Luffy says it in such a casual, pensive way, like it’s just like the other tidbits of information Zoro missed out on. Zoro’s eye opens. He’s wide awake.
“He and his crew reached Wano, years ago. Tama told me. People were starving then too and Ace helped them.”
There’s something fragile about this, about the morning light barely starting to spill into the room and the loving way Luffy speaks of his brother. Something precious, and nothing in the world could bring Zoro to interrupt Luffy now.
“Tama wants to sail to sea, did you know that?” Round and round, Luffy draws invisible lines on Zoro’s skin. “Ace promised he’d come back and take her along when she’s older. And a ninja! That’s important.”
The mental image of sweet Tama as a ruthless ninja is a little out there but who is Zoro to judge? She’s certainly brave enough for it but–
Oh, Ace. Quietly, Zoro wonders how old he was at the time. If he, too, was barely past seventeen when started leaving a trail of reckless promises in the hopes of living another day.
It’s then that Luffy pauses, his chest moving against Zoro’s with the slow breath he inhales. Zoro breathes with him, bracing for impact.
“But… Ace is gone. I told her, and she got angry with me.” Walking the line of that old heartache, Luffy laughs and doesn’t break. “She said I don’t know what I’m talking about. It’s better this way, I think.”
Finally, Luffy’s hand stills. Calmly, Zoro offers him his palm instead; Luffy continues with an amused huff, tracing along the deep creases and old scars there.
“What do you think, Zoro? About Tama.”
Years, they have known each other. For Luffy, there’s a great many things Zoro is willing to indulge in – here, at the break of a new day and with the life of a child hanging in the balance, Luffy isn’t asking for indulgence.
Thus Zoro says, “Ace was right”, voice a little raspy this long into his watch. “Children don’t belong at sea.”
Luffy hums and mumbles, “Yeah.” He doesn’t sound particularly surprised. “I want to help them, Zoro. The people of this town, this country. Nobody deserves to cry over bean soup.”
And oh, the anger that seethes within Zoro wells up at that, patiently waiting to be unleashed – an ice-blue fire that burns at his core, fed by the notion of a land poisoned to its very rivers and all the injustices he’s witnessed.
“We will”, he promises his captain, because Ace’s family is Luffy’s family and that makes Tama theirs. It’s how it’s always been. “We’ll get that shitty cook to throw ‘em a feast after, too.”
Luffy nods enthusiastically. “A big one!”
Zoro chuckles. Yawning, he turns into his pillow, eye sliding shut. “With lots of sake.”
With the sound of Luffy’s laughter in the air, he finally allows himself to drift off. That morning, Zoro’s dreams are filled with the smiles of his crew and Sunny's full sails, a new horizon coming ever-closer.

Southernwood
The island was called Southernwood, and after personally seeing to the eviction of their jerk of a mayor, the crew learned that Southernwoodeners loved to party. Never one to turn down a celebration themselves, the crew eagerly joined in with the revelries.
And then they brought out the stick.
Chopper was the first to notice, being one of the few members of the crew not actively participating in a Southernwood drinking game.
"What's that for?" he asked Robin, the woman usually a beacon of knowledge.
"Perhaps it's for beating people with," was her cheerful response.
Chopper wailed and hid behind her legs. "That sounds awful!"
Having overheard their conversation, Terra turned from her place at the drinking table and shouted to the gathering crowd, "Oi! What's with the big stick?!"
"It's for limbo," the woman beside her at the table replied with a carefree smile. "Haven't you played before?"
Terra felt a weight against her back as Luffy eagerly joined the conversation, hanging over Terra's shoulder like the monkey he was. "It's a game?" he eagerly asked.
"It is! Two people hold the pole in the air, and you have to walk under it without touching the pole or the ground. If you do, you're eliminated. They'll lower the pole every round, so it gets harder to keep your balance. Eventually, there's only one person left, and that's your winner!"
"Luffy, you're not allowed to play," Terra immediately declared, gripping onto Luffy's wrists over her shoulders as though such an action would ever stop him from breaking away. "You've got an unfair advantage."
"But I wanna play!" he whined, dropping his head atop Terra's and squishing down atop her white locks. "No fair! Terra!"
"I think we should let the Captain play," Robin helpfully contributed with a smile. "We can all agree not to use our Devil Fruits."
Terra felt Luffy's jaw rubbing against her head as he vigorously nodded. "Yeah, yeah! Let's all play!"
"But Luffy, can you even stop yourself from being rubber—"
"LET'S GO!" Luffy cheered, cutting off Chopper's question and jumping from Terra's back in one go. The girl yelped as she was dragged along towards the gathering crowd. His free hand reached out, stretching into the crowd, before snapping back with a flabbergasted swordsman in tow. "Zoro, you come too!"
"What the hell?!"
Terra laughed as she bumped shoulders with Zoro, the two of them dragging behind their Captain while an amused Robin and Chopper followed behind. "We're going to play limbo."
"What the hell is limbo?"
"It's a competition to see who is the most physically capable," Robin educated with an easy smile, her gait nonchalant as she followed the wreckage their Captain wrought. "The last person standing is the winner."
"LUFFY!" came an aggravated shout before a long leg smacked across Luffy's face, sending him into the ground. Terra was immediately swept from his grip, and up into Sanji's arms. "Stop manhandling Terra, idiot!"
Terra laughed, and tucked a white ranunculus behind Sanji's ear for his trouble. "I don't mind," she said, and laughed again as she realized that Zoro had been dragged down with Luffy. "We're going to play a game, are you going to join us?"
"Anything for you, my rosebud!" he cooed, twirling in a circle to make Terra laugh one more time before he put her down.
Luffy popped up from the ground, his enthusiasm undeterred despite the new dirt across his face. "LET'S GO!"
"Aye, aye," Terra responded as the crew followed their energetic Captain towards the game.
Two women were already holding a stick high into the air, a small group of people easily walking beneath it— some even held their hand in the air to show off how much room they had. Terra watched as the group circled around one of the women to go through again, the stick held just a little lower this time.
"It looks pretty easy so far!" exclaimed Chopper. The crew looked down towards him, all of them with thoughts of his short stature in their heads. "I bet I can win!"
"Maybe if Luffy wasn't competing," Terra muttered, giving Luffy a dirty side-glance. Louder, she asked, "Should we make this into a bet?"
"Did someone say bet?"
Chopper and Terra screeched in fright as another voice suddenly joined them from behind. Unsurprisingly, it was Nami with a mischievous smile on her face.
"Is 'bet' your summoning word or something?" Terra asked, a hand held to her racing heart. "If you're going to participate, then you have to play with us."
"I don't think so," Nami sniffed. "Someone needs to be the impartial judge and game master."
Zoro rolled his eyes, his arms crossed over his chest. "I think that's what the people holding the sticks are for."
"I'm gonna win!" shouted Luffy with both his arms raised in the air as he sprinted to join the game.
Terra huffed. "Well, of course the guy with rubber bones is gonna win. Ten beri on it!"
"Deal!" responded Nami with a snap of her fingers. In the blink of an eye, she was curling around Sanj's arm with a coy smile. "Sanji-kun~! If you win for me, we can go on a date!"
"D—DATE?!" yelped Sanji with hearts in his eyes. "Anything for you, Nami-swan!"
And then he was gone, a cloud in his wake as he chased after Luffy towards the game.
"That was dirty," accused Terra with a poorly concealed grin. She raised a hand to cover her laughter. "You could have just asked and he would have done it for you. And what happens if he really wins?"
Nami raised her chin smugly and winked. "Then I'll be ten beri richer."
"You're betting on that shitty cook, then?" asked Zoro. "Pfft."
"It's not a bad choice," Robin suggested, her smile sly. "He does have strong legs— possibly the strongest on the crew."
Zoro disagreed, if his scowl was anything to go by. The next thing they knew, Zoro was gone as well.
"Ten on Zoro," announced Robin with a pleased smile. "Shall we join them?"
Terra laughed and looped her arm through Robin's. "You're both monsters," she said fondly. "Nami, are you sure you won't join us?"
"Yeah, Nami!" added Chopper, tugging on the redhead's hand with both hooves. "It'll be fun!"
"Well, I guess I could…" Nami said, looking pleased with the attention. "But no, I have to be a judge! I'll wait here; you can leave your drinks— and your wallets— with me," she finished with a wink.
"Like a dragon with her hoard," Terra said with a shake of her head. "C'mon, Chopper, let's show 'em how it's done."
"Alright!" cheered the short reindeer as the rest of the gang made their way over to join the game.
The limbo bar was still held above their heads, and Terra quickly tugged Robin along to make their first trip beneath it. With her short stature, Terra's head didn't even come close to brushing the top.
"You might have an unfair advantage of your own," Robin teased.
Terra shrugged with an easy smile. "Hey, being a shorty had to come in handy sometime."
A pair of hands brushed against her waist, and Terra turned to see a grinning Sanji moments before he deposited himself between the two girls, his arms slung over their shoulders. "Now, ladies," he started, "Just because Nami-swan and I are going on a date, doesn't mean my affection for you will wane, alright? In fact—" hearts popped into his eyes, the cook already lost into his own thoughts. "Why don't the four of us have a picnic together? Just me and my three beau— urrk!"
"Lay off it, you pervy cook," Zoro grumbled from behind, having grasped Sanji's collar to pull him off Terra and Robin.
Three heads tilted back to make it under the bars, Terra the only one short enough to make it a second round without ducking.
"Where did my horse go?" she asked, looking through the crowd to try to find a familiar Straw Hat.
"Oh, that idiot?" Sanji said between the heated glares he shared with Zoro. "He jumped and hit the bar right away. He's already been disqualified."
Terra smacked a palm against her face. "Seriously? My captain is so dumb…"
"Perhaps now you have a chance to win," said Robin with a peaceful smile, three heads ducking once more.
"Right!" said Terra with a snap of her fingers. She looked back at the boys to stick her tongue out at them. "I'm taking you losers down!"
"Yeah, right," scoffed Zoro.
"I feel very conflicted right now," whispered a stricken Sanji.
"Let's do our best!" came a chipper voice, and they looked down to see an unbothered Chopper beside them.
Terra pouted and crossed her arms. "Alright, I'll admit that I forgot about him."
Four heads ducked, three backs arching to make it under the lowering bar. Chopper proudly carried on with a whistle.
"He does have quite the advantage in games like this," observed Robin. "Perhaps I was too hasty to place my bet on Zoro."
"You bet on Zoro?!" cried an aghast Sanji. "Robin-chan! You don't have faith in me?"
"She's too smart for that," Zoro smugly replied.
"No way will I lose to a moss-head like you!"
Two heads ducked, and three bodies hit the ground.
"What happened?!" Chopper cried, his voice muffled into the dirt and grass.
"You dirty cheat!" fumed Sanji, jumping up with his face red and furious. He struck a leg out at Zoro which was quickly parried by a sheathed sword as the swordsman jumped to his feet as well.
"It's not my fault you can't stay on your feet!"
Terra giggled as she subtly retracted her vine. "It looks like we've both lost the bet, Robin."
"It would seem that way," she agreed, pretending not to have noticed Terra's interference. "Nami will be pleased."
"Happy wife, happy life," Terra joked as the two girls hurried on, leaving their squabbling crew-mates behind them. "A grumpy Nami isn't good for anyone."
"You would rather that the rest of the crew be grumpy?" asked Robin, gesturing with a hand to where their Captain sulked on the outskirts of the game.
Both women ducked, Robin bending backwards with ease.
"They'll get over it," responded Terra breezily. "Luffy will play again next round, and he might even act like less of a dummy— though, that is a big ask…"
Robin laughed. "Would it make you happy to win?"
"Well, yeah!"
Terra leaned back just as every standing participant suddenly tripped, hands having sprouted at all their feet. Robin let the bar hit her chest as Terra straightened up.
"Congratulations," she cheered among the groans of the downed players. "It looks like you won!"
Terra laughed gleefully, taking in the sight of the dropped crowd and the furious expressions of their crew-mates who realized that the girls had been cheating all along. "Robin, you're officially my new favourite Straw Hat."
Robin smiled, her head tilting and her hands clasping behind her back. "It's an honour."
"Let's get a victory drink," she demanded, looping her arm through Robin's once more and pulling her away from the game before the two could face any coming backlash. "Before Nami comes looking for her money!"
They dashed away, the sound of giggling and falling cherry-blossoms left in their wake.

One Piece Chapter 997 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
Well okay then! May not have arrived early but Chapter 1000 is getting closer and closer Though that also means Xmas is getting closer and I have a lot of stuff to buy... For now though, let’s get through Chapter 997
Spoilers for the Chapter, Please Also Support the Official Release
A Sanji cover page is cool, the Zen life is not for this Simp XD I wonder what the Shirt Pun is though ‘4 Bear Mire’ or ‘4 Kuma Mire’ or ‘Yon Kuma Mire’ - jp translator says Mamire means ‘Covered’ and Yon Ku could be Yonko...
And it transitions to the story itself as Sanji’s simp radar sets off, seeing the shadows of a man undressing a lady
Through all that stuff about the translations maybe hinting at Ivankov and it turned out to be the original thought I had. Occam’s Razor and all that
Sanji jumps in to White Knight and falls into Black Maria’s trap, spider webs do imply that she may have a Jorugumo DF but damn Sanji got hit hard by these no-names
At the very least he is confident he could bust out if he got violent, it’s just that matter of if
Because Black Maria is there in her giant glory flirting with Sanji, noting that she doesn’t want her stage to be a battleground. I think those figures behind her with the smoke covering their faces are a bit unnerving too
And then Sanji goes from serious to simp again. NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO BE A SIMP SANJI!
And of course the irony that he tagged with Luffy to stop Luffy from getting distracted and ended up getting distracted himself
To more SMILE Atrocities and Mizeka definitely had a rough hand, but I kinda like Poker’s design. This one is telling though since through them we learn that Kid is now officially ahead of Luffy in the tower climb
But alas poor Poker, you will never get to fight when the chips are down, because the samurai made a ladder for Luffy through a hole XD It got a smirk out of me but I wonder if that hole is the same as the one Hatcha made last chapter
Few things can make Zoro stop in his tracks though, and what fell from the dome flipped a switch in him
Sir, SIR! Roronoa ‘Get Shit Done’ Zoro right here, Shishi Sonson-ing Apoo right under Drake’s nose, grabbing the antibody as well all in a fell swoop. You love to see it!
And then back to Soft Zoro putting all trust in Chopper’s doctoring by giving him the antibody
Because our little reindeer boy has already figured out how to stop Queen’s magnum opus. Of course Fire would be key to it, but by promising to make an antibody for everyone via the Hippocratic Oath
But before Queen can strike Zoro is back to his Take No Prisoners Anger, the tirade on this man to tell Kaido’s No.2 Guy that he’s come here to get a slice out of his boss and have Queen shook
Oh Oda, you little troll you, he sees our Zoro having Conqueror’s Theory, dangles it then makes it clear it’s something else
We see what set Zoro off though, Kiku’s arm and yeah that’ll do it. Not only from a standpoint that Zoro has gratitude for Kiku helping them out before even knowing they were with Kin’emon but also as a Warrior and an Ally it’s pissing him off that his allies are getting hurt while he’s stuck down here
Funny Zoro notes he’d like to fly up there because a Pineapple has just flown in. We need all them Straw Hats to reach the dome somehow and Marco could fly Zoro, Robin and Brook up while Chopper helps the Ice oni below for a bit
The quakes are being felt by all areas the crew is on though, Law’s crew being cut off from Law’s small party does make it worrisome for me while it’s also surprising that they didn’t show Law’s reaction at all. Only Black Maria bemused by Kaido’s impatience
Yamato sees it to know though, it’s the clouds dragons produce
Kaido, the crazy motherfucker now having defeated all the Scabbards, is using clouds to LIFT ALL OF ONIGASHIMA, which he plans to drop on the Flower Capital!
I mean, WHAT!? Forgetting for a moment that Big Mom should be there unless Kaido has left the Dome, W H A T!? I did not expect Kaido to levitate an island to drop onto the capital, not many will even survive that! It also puts more stress now because the moment Kaido reaches landfall you will have to deal with ‘how do we stop this island from falling?
I don’t think Law can Shambles it, Momo is nowhere near skilled enough to use his clouds (yet maybe?), Robin will likely not have the strength to hold it even with several giant hands, I don’t think there’s enough metal in the world for Kid to hold it. Big Momo could hold it with a gigantic Zeus but would the weight be too much?
So the only alternative is to beat Kaido before he makes landfall, which is looking nigh impossible thanks to Oda’s storytelling. I will say though, given what we left off on last week it’s a little disappointing to see Sanji so easily played again. I guess there is still chance for redemption but the early thoughts are that Sanji completely took his eye off the ball and let another part of his body do the thinking. Considering how few allies there would be on this floor, crashing through blind on a dude undressing a woman in the midst of a raid against one of the most deadliest pirate crews today was such a daft move, especially given how strongly Sanji started. Queen seems to be immediately intimidated by Zoro though, which is weird given his billion bounty but I guess it’s not too much given that a 150 berry Chopper outwitted his strongest virus while being infected by it.
King was shown for a panel doing nothing too, gotta wonder, we haven’t seen Hawkins or Who’s Who in a while as well...and the absence of Law, Carrot/Wanda/Peros and BM’s reactions were missed. But at least this kinda means that there will be no other outside interference, good or bad, unless they can fly. It does make you wonder if Tama’s 3-minute plan is still active too. I wonder if it reaches the Flower Capital (which I’m guessing it will) how the reactions would be, I mean Orochi is dead and if Kaido does fall too then there’s no hiding from it
Gotta tip our hats to Zoro though, he had been quiet for quite a while in this raid but now we’re getting some Zoro stuff we wanted (minus the hopes of his ancestry connecting to Wano and all)
But Sadly a Break until 998 One positive though is this: if Oda intends to finish 1000 by 2020 then he can only do it on one day The Christmas Day Chapter 1000 Train is in the Station!

1st Ship Pro!Hero Kirishima x Steff
Tumblr media
Kiri and I knew each other from the agency we both worked. He is a pro hero and I run the place. Fatgum  hired me on to overlook the comings and goings of the agency’s
I loved his outlook on life, he had an infectious smile and even when things were rough or crazy if he was there I couldn't be down.
I admired his heart and courage. He was so manly!
He admires my stubbornness, my level head and my natural leadership.
From the day I started he’d take note of things I liked
My favorite coffee or snack on my desk when I got to work in the mornings
Ordering lunch and never letting me pay
I’d repay him kissing his cheek and making him a blush as red as his hair.
One night he offered to help me with the grocery shopping for the agency. Fatgum likes to keep a full kitchen on site.
A little girl was crying , she got away from her mom and couldn’t find her.
Kiri went up to her, showed her his hero license, letting her keep it in her hands.
She smiled and took his finger in her small hand  as they walked together in search of her mom.
My heart melted and my ovaries exploded. I fell hard that night.
We finally started dating after weeks of flirting
When we brought it up to Fatgum he approved and yelled “FINALLY!”
Dates are always fun, golfing and bowling to diners and ramen shops.
Some nights are just us cuddled up (because cuddles with kiri are top notch, he radiates warmth) not paying attention to the movie we put on but I would be nestled on his chest listening to his heart beat lull me to sleep.
When he has to travel is always the hardest but he always calls to say good night, when he can’t call he still tries to sneak in an “I’m ok” and “I miss you” text because he knows I worry
Especially when he’s gone for weeks, but we make up for lost time by getting lost in each other.
Good morning texts turned into good morning kisses in his arms
Once we move in together that’s it.
Baking disasters - where the floor is covered in flour and face filled with chocolate frosting.
Dancing in the kitchen while making dinner, he come home and joins after a while of watching
Hair dying nights - trying not to get color everywhere.
Saturday morning forts
And lazy Sunday’s in bed with him pulling me back under the covers when I try to be productive “babe, you’re always working, let me just love on you today.”
Our first fight we never remembered what it was about but all we knew is that we couldn't stay mad at each other.
His explosive best friend - he grew on me and his cooking skills 👌🏻 I think I’ll keep him around
He talks about marriage and kids and I know it should scare me but with him it feels natural.
When I do get pregnant, he’s so doting. Running around getting everything I could crave.
He reads every what to expect book
Takes me to all the classes
Wakes me up a week before I’m due to make different route from work and home so when I go into labor he’ll know where I am if he’s at work and I’m home.
Thing is our little girl decided the day we do that is the day she comes.
We are in the middle of a busy sidewalk and he’s freaked … I got us over to the hospital and checked in.
He’d be nervous af , holding on to me, breathing with me. Doing everything from beginning to end
And once she comes into the world, my big manly hero melts as soon as he lays eyes on her.
Running out to everyone waiting with a huge smile “IM A DAD!!!”
Our children would be running around the agency with Papa Tai.
Jumping all over Uncle Katsu when he visits.
Our kids walking around wearing his merch
NSFW
Sex with kiri is always amazing
He’s gentle and loving
He takes his time - we don’t have anywhere to be.
He’s a giver and I love receiving
He’s a nibbler…. loves to leave his mark … and bites … neck, breast, thighs …. sweet reminders.
Makes it his mission to make me cum at least twice before he gets off
I’ll always return the favor … I love his dick
His hardening quirk: oh yes ... T H I G H R I D I N G
Breeding kink “you’re going to look so beautiful, round with my baby in your belly” “I’m gonna make sure you both have the world” “would you like that, yea? To carry my baby?” “Want me to stuff you full baby girl.”
Late nights at work hit different.
When we are alone and stressed, those nights  find me bent over his desk , and those nights he leaves bruises but oh how good they feel.
2nd Ship Roronoa Zora x Steff
Tumblr media
GIF by rorronoa
I first met the green haired swordsman when I was on the run from the navy. I had a bounty on my head and so did he. So I was shocked when he stepped up trying to help me (he didn’t need to I took care of it)
“You might have bigger swords handsome but uhh I know how to use my little knives.” I wink at him causing him to blush.
The man has no sense of direction! He went on his merry way but heading right to navy territory. I circle back pulling him into an alley and before he could ask what I was doing he sees navy HQs.
“If I’m right and that’s your ship docked just head west and you’ll find it no problem” That’s when he asked me for help so he wouldn’t  get lost.
And I got him to the ship and was ready to head back into town when his Captain saw me and invited me for dinner as a thank you for being back his first mate. I had to admit to myself
I may have been a lone wolf most of my life but watching the crew together and laughing with them had me wanting something more.
Luffy ends up inviting me to sail with them and I agreed way too quickly for my liking.
Learning everything I can about everyone. And taking time to get to know what they do an learning how to do it. I love to learn … I’m a sponge.
I know Luffy can handle himself but he became like a little brother to me. His smile is infectious.
They are my family. They picked me and love me no matter my past.
I do my share and become the ship mom of all things, I kept up with the everyday things, looking after everyone, becoming 2nd commander under Zoro.
That caused us to work together very closely, starting to get to know him was nice.
He learned about my past. And vowed to hurt the man that hurt me and anyone else who tries
Once we made it official much to Sanji’s dismay. We were always together.
Couple workouts! Sitting on his back during push ups.
Putting me on his shoulders while he squats He doesn’t let me get away without training either.
But we all know how that ends. My legs wrapped around his waist while he held me up with his body as I did sit ups, catching his lips with mine until my arms came up to hug his neck and he slammed me into the nearest wall.
I do baking with Sanji, it’s my favorite pastime.
He doesn’t like me being too close to the cook but he knows I’m his and his alone.
Calling him in to help and he’s reluctant at first but he loves doing it after awhile.
Sitting in the crow’s nest to look up at the stars
Cuddled up with blankets while I read, sometimes to him, he loves listening to my voice and the voice changes I do. He says I’m pretty silly for a bad ass but here we are.
He teaches me how to use his swords. I show him katas I remember from when I trained at a dojo. It’s relaxing and intimate , I never stay focused
Stolen kisses while doing chores
Camping out when we dock on a beach or outskirts of islands. It was much needed alone time with a ship full of people.
Fighting, drinking and fucking on every island/town we get to just cause we can.
NSFW
HIS STAMINA
HIS LIBIDO
Drives him wild when I bite my lip
I mark him all over
body worship
I can tease him all day and work him up but once I have him where I want him he turns the tables and I’m begging him to let me cum.
“What’s the matter, love? Oh no, I’m gonna take my time right now” “weren’t you just talking about how you can make me cum fast with your mouth.” “Show me”
Quickies in storage closets
When we camp out making love by the fire under the stars , all night. (I need to write this)
I can’t keep my hands off of his body. I know every scar in his body and knows every mark in mine.
There’s not a lot to do on a ship once the wind stops so lots of lazy days in bed, hands mapping each to memory and exploring what we like. Those are days when our mouths do the talking, and what that mouth do, oh know what it does with how he trains to keep that sword there.
He drags out my orgasms on lazy days.
He likes when I take the lead.
He’s rough especially after a good fight and we're driven on adrenaline, sweaty and bloody
Just fucking everywhere On the deck … in the crow’s nest … in the ocean … so much sex

My part for the @lawlu-events BigBang 2018/19
The story got illustrated by the awesome artist @novicecomics
“Zorro! Nami! Usopp!” Luffy called his friends, while waving with his free arm. “Got him!” He flopped down on the free chair, pointing to the other one next to him. “Sit down Torao!” He cheered, grinning broadly. “It took you longer, then I expected” Zorro said with a smirk, scrutinizing the other one. Luffy had a talent to get what he wanted, whatever he wanted.
“Yes, I was starting to wonder, if I should have betted against Nami!” Usopp said with a little nervous laughter. He still felt weird around the doctor. He had a weird aura to himself. Something Usopp could not put his finger on. He was calmer than the first time they met, though. If Luffy trusted the doctor, he would do so too (even though a little bit of caution would harm nobody).
“Sadly, you did not~," Nami said with a playful sigh, before smiling at Law. It was a warm smile. She could very much understand how the other must feel. It was always weird being the new one to a group of people, who already knew each other and were close friends. “Do I want to know what bet this was?” Law said in a gruff tone of voice. He already guessed it was about him, and he was sure, that he would not like to know… whatever it was about.
“Nami wanted to bet, if I get you before the trip ends! But no one wanted to bet against her!” The voice of Luffy was cheerful. “Nami never loses a bet! If you want to keep your money, do not bet against her! Or play with her!” “Oi!” Nami raised her fist. “Do not warn the new one!” Now the chances of milking the new one for easy money were gone. Damn Luffy being nice and social.
“You took out enough people on this ship already! No need to also take out one of us!” Zorro said, before looking at Law, who seemed rather confused.
“You! Silent! I did not forget how much money you still owe me! You understand me?! One day I will come to your apartment and snatch all your liquor and sell it!” “No way!”
“Are your friends always... you know... like this?” Law said. One moment the others seemed like typical adults and the next second they acted as if they were bickering teenagers. They all seemed to know each other very well.
Envy.
Friendship.
He despised it. He missed it.
“Yes! They are funny!” Luffy hummed and looked over to the dining area. “The evening buffet opens soon! I am starving! I want chicken, pork, the lobster…” Law frowned. How could the boy be starving? He had witnessed what the other one devoured for lunch! He shook his head. “Get used to it.” Zorro leaned back in his chair, observing Luffy and Usopp for a moment, before closing his eyes. “Wake me up, when the buffet opens. I wanna get at least some meat before Luffy eats it all!”
Somehow Law got the impression that this was not only a figure of speech but something must have happened in the past. “Oi!” Luffy grinned. “It is not my fault! They should not name it All-You-Can-Eat if they only have a limited amount of food!”
Usopp grinned. Oh god. He remembered the face of the poor cooks and waiters. He pitied them. The way the waiters face had twisted in surprise, disbelief and horror.
“I am pretty certain they did lose a week worth of profit with you. You ate for ten people at least.” “Nami did not have time that evening! I had to eat for her too!” “As if I eat that much!“ Nami scolded him. “Just because you represent the epitome of a glutton!”
Their bickering went forth and back. Somehow, Law felt himself relax more and more. It almost felt, as if the others were not bothered by his presence. “Oi! Torao! Come on, get something to eat with me! Zorro! Wake up!” Luffy did not wait for an answer. He practically ran towards the buffet. It was half amusing, half disgusting to watch. The word gluttonous Nami mentioned before was rather fitting in Laws opinion. As cheerful and happy as Luffy seemed most of the time, considering food he seemed more like a greedy pig. And he ate like one. He chewed with his mouth open, talked while having his mouth half full. It was not exactly a delightful thing to watch and still… Law was amused. Zorro had started to keep up with Luffy’s eating tempo but gave up promptly after. Usopp had overloaded his plate with food. Law had begun to wonder, why the other one had so much food on his plate, when he ate like an almost normal person. He observed Luffy snatching half of the food, so it made sense… Was it a tribute for their friendship? Apparently. Nami was the only one eating and behaving like a proper ordinary, decent and sane person (at least concerning eating behaviors). The only weird thing about her was the force she used to ram the fork into one of Luffy’s fingers, whenever he tried to steal something from her table.
“Get your greasy fingers off my plate! You do not even like fruit salad that much! Oh Law, I hope you are not bothered by these guys behaviors. They got no manners!”
After talking for a while, she had found out, that his name was Law. She had wondered where the Torao was coming from… since on his name tag was written Dr. Trafalgar D. W. L.
“My family had been rather unique too, so do not worry.” Not so greedy, not so animalistic and seeming like starved people fighting over some fiber… but weird in other… places. Luffy sitting next to him, eating like a maniac (and mauling his food in a way, that Law found some pieces of it, on his own plate), was still better than Trebol with the always running gooey nose. Disgusting…
“Oh your family? You mean the man from the picture?”
With a quick swipe of his tongue, Luffy fetched the piece of chicken sticking to his lower lip. Even though he seemed focused on eating, he had watched and observed Law the entire time.
“Yes. Father, well-“ Law tilted his head a little bit. “Adoptive father.” Law loved Corazon, had cherished him … but it still felt inappropriate to say, that Corazon had been his only father. The few memories he had about his blood family. Law was fond of these fragments of happiness and joy.
“Adoptive or not. Family is family.” Nami smiled softly, blue painted nails clicking against the cocktail glass Sanji had brought her. “True!” Luffy grinned. “Who cares who is born by whom, or whose blood is in your veins! Family is what you feel!”
He nodded before shoving another enormous piece of meat into his mouth. If Laws thoughts were not occupied by the family talk, he would probably wonder if Luffy had a gag reflex at all. He was certain, he had seen pieces of non-chewed meat sliding down his throat. “I guess that is one way to put it.”
Law remained quiet for the rest of the dinner. The way Strawhat looked at him, knowingly. There was something powerful in this look. Determination.
“Come Torao! I show you my favorite place!”
Law looked up with a frown. How could the other one be this active and eager again? How did he have this much energy?! Did he not want to relax after such a substantial meal and relax a bit? Law was pretty sure he could a little bulge in his stomach from all the food. But no, apparently the other one did not need to rest.
“Sure.”
One evening. Their deal had been one evening spent together. Just a few more hours and he could crawl back into his cabin again. He just had to survive this evening. Was it what he desired? Isolation. Loneliness. Luffy led the way through dining area. Once again, he was babbling and babbling.
“We are always the last people in the dining area! The others finish their food so quickly! They eat so little.”
“You are the best doctor here! You took care of my friends.”
“Sanji is our friend too now! He cooks awesome food! Nami likes his Cocktails!”
“The old hag is a cool doctor too! Are you two friends?”
“You are our friend now too!”
“Tomorrow you must try the eel! The way Sanji prepares-,“ “What did you say?” Law had ignored most of the things the Strawhat said. Did he mishear him?
“You must try the eel!”
“No, before that.”
“That you belong to us now!” Confusion was written all over Luffy’s face. Law was acting in a bizarre way. It was clear, that he did not want to be alone, so why did he isolate himself? If he wanted friends, why wouldn't he make any? It was not so difficult! “Don’t worry! The others like you, cause I like you. If Zorro is hurt again in training, I can bring him to you, right?”
Law took a deep breath.
“You know I only accepted the invitation because you kept coming every day to my office. This, whatever you believe this is, it is not a friendship.” “It is!” “… How do you think it will work out, after the trip? Only a few days left. You will go to your place again, and I will go to mine. Are you even living in the same city as I am?”
Probably not. Hopefully not. Hopefully yes. No-, he should not get his hopes up.
“Why should distance end a friendship? I am still friends with Vivi! She was in our class for a year! She is now back to Alabasta! And yup! Same city!” “And why do you think, that you know where I live and work?” “Heard the nurses talking! You work in the hospital in the city I live!”
There was it again. The big, knowing grin. It made Laws toes curl in, and his breath accelerate. Big, knowing grin. Threatening. Dangerous. No. The last two things were not fitting. There was no sheer endless row of teeth, no gum revealed. Eyes hidden. Instead, there were warmth and joy. Law sighed. It felt like he was talking to a wall.
“Awesome.” It did not sound honest, but Luffy did not seem to care.

Trick or Treat
  Chapter 1: Costumes
Sanji wondered through the streets absent-mindedly, taking appreciative glances at the mélange of orange, yellow and red. It was nearly the end of October and autumn was present everywhere – from the colourful leaves, to the chilly wind that made him shiver a little to the Halloween decorations.
There were various cinnamon candles, pumpkin lanterns and even skeleton ornaments scattered throughout the city streets.
The cook smirked, he'd always been one to enjoy the holidays. He could debate why – perhaps it came as an occupational thing since he'd get to prepare seasonal dishes.
This time around though…there was something special about autumn. The air appeared clearer, the various shades of the trees more vibrant and for the first time since he was twelve he was actually excited about Halloween.
"Seems just like you be excited about a girly ass thing, ero-cook," Zoro mocked when he'd stupidly shared his thoughts out loud.
Still, the words lacked bite and he could see Roronoa smirk a little, as though their little banter sessions made him happy.
"What about chopper?" Sanji asked to which Zoro had promptly looked away, the way he always did when he couldn't convey emotions into words.
" He used to love Halloween when he was really small…back when Tashigi and I-"
The words hung in the air awkwardly and the chef bit his lip, opting to change the topic.
Now though he was going through town, on a mission. A sudden idea sprouted in his chest like a weed and no matter how much he wanted, he couldn't tear it away.
In the end it was decided – they were going to celebrate Halloween, regardless of what the Marimo had to say about it.
 xxx
Sanji stood before the window screen of a large, decoration shop and briefly debated if he should enter. He'd always been on the prideful side and something told him buying not one but four costumes, one of them for a kid, was bound to get some raised eyebrows.
"How may I help you, sir?" the shop assistant, Keimi, as the name tag read asked when she noticed how lost he appeared.
The chef quickly explained, for once omitting his usual praise for the beautiful lady before him.
Keimi's lips stretched into a warm smile which brightened the whole shop,
"I think we have just what you need," she promised, taking his pale hand and dragging him towards the rows of different costumes.
 xxx
To say Chopper was excited two hours later would be understatement of the year.
"Sanji, you're SO cool!" he cried out, bouncing on his feet as he clung onto the Halloween costume the blonde had just handed to him.
Zoro seemed stunned, unable to even comment. He was stilling sitting on his bed in his room, one remaining grey eye wide in bewilderment,
"You…really shouldn't have," he whispered after an unnaturally long pause, "But thank you."
Sanji felt something flutter in his chest, a wave of warmth washing over him. He couldn't get past the pure gratitude in the other's voice, how damn happy he looked.
Not only that but surprised as well, as though he wasn't used to people treating him nicely. It made the chef frown, he'd been the same way but as he was slowly starting to realize – things were changing. He may not have had the best biological family, sure, but he had Zeff and now, with Zoro and Chopper around it almost felt like he had a family of his own. Sure, they weren't there yet, but it felt nice, offering a long forgotten sense of security to Sanji.
"Come on, Chopper, try it on!" he insisted, shooting the six-year-old an encouraging look.
"Okay! I'll go to the bathroom and change!" the kid said, smiling brightly at them before running away.
Sanji then turned to Zoro himself, opting to sit next to him as the old bed creaked under their combined weight.
The scene of their first kiss, a mere week ago, flashed before his eyes – Roronoa being only centimetres away, hot breath dancing over his lips. And then his lips, a little chapped but welcomed... the way his tongue clashed against his. The contact had been unexpected and playful, like a breath of fresh air after being locked inside for too long.
The blonde cleared his throat, retrieving back to reality once the memory lost its grip on him,
"Here, I got one for you too, moss for brains," he offered, the insult was slowly turning into a loving pet name,
The look of shock on Zoro's face deepened - some strange emotion, caught between surprise and faint embarrassment. Then, much to Sanji's surprise things escalated further as his sides turned a pleasant red colour.
The cook couldn't help but grin at him – who knew this fearsome man could blush so deeply? He had to admit though – it suited him, making him appear younger and happier, adding some bonus points of attraction, as if he needed any. The word cute swam in Sanji's mind but he would never say it out loud though, he wasn't in the mood for getting chopped to pieces.
Perhaps he could steal a picture of Roronoa like this, all surprised and flustered, having a hard time comprehending basic human interactions. Then he would probably frame it over his bed, all in the name of teasing him.
"Thanks," the other muttered in the end, burying his face in the parcel and refusing to meet his gaze.
He stared at the costume, somewhat bewildered, evidently unable to guess who or what he was supposed to dress up as.
"You're going as Zorro!" Sanji couldn't help the sarcastic giggle, as uncharacteristic as it was for him – perhaps the man had a strange effect on him,
"I thought it would be clever – because of your name." he went, barely suppressing his own laughter, "And he has a sword as well! It's the perfect choice for you, don't you think?."
The taller man shook his head, lips curving into a smile which soon morphed into a sunny grin.
(Hearing Zoro laugh did something funny to his heart.)
"Damn, cook, you really are one cheesy bastard!" Zoro shot back but there was no edge to his words, if anything he seemed happier than he'd ever seen him before.
Sanji shrugged, a month ago he would have been offended, he'd have screamed an insult back or raised his leg for a kick. But now things were different, now he had an adorable six year old around, a directionally challenged marimo to help out in the kitchen and a twenty something child who wreaked havoc on his meat supply.
The new dynamic changed him, mellowed him down and took away the bitterness he'd felt for as long as he could remember.
"Don't just stand there, try it on, algae!" Sanji demanded, tone harsher for good measure.
Roronoa didn't protest, instead stood up and took his T-shirt off, as though that was the most natural thing in the world to do.
The cook couldn't help but stare, taking in the smooth tan skin and the strong defined muscles underneath it.
His blue eyes trailed over Roronoa's scars – thin white lines which criss-crossed over his torso, like rivers on a map. If anything they made him all the more attractive to him, as if a proof to his strength and endurance, a reminder of the pain he'd survived.
"I bet you only bought this, so you could see me strip," Zoro whispered, turning to him and winking like the damn asshole he was.
It was Sanji's turn to go red in the face, glad Chopper wasn't listening to their exchange, "Cocky bastard,"
Roronoa grinned at him, "That's how you like me,"
The chef rolled his eyes, "Touché,"
Zoro then proceeded to snake out of his torn, washed out jeans, tossing them aside on the floor. The French couldn't shift his gaze, hungry eyes falling over the man's plump ass and his strong thighs.
Various images flashed through his mind, none of them including any Halloween costumes or other clothes. He could picture the strong swordsman over himself, those damn good muscles working their magic. He'd never been attracted to a man before, hell he'd never even spared men a second look.
But Zoro…the damn bastard looked like sex on legs and he seemed to realize it which made him all the better in Sanji's eyes. Though he would never admit it, apparently he had a thing for arrogance, all mixed in with a round of banter between them. Not to mention, that six pack didn't hurt either.
"Cook, you might wanna tone down the looks, my son is in the other room," Roronoa joked, shaking his head as short locks of green swayed with his throaty laughter.
"Asshole," Sanji grumbled but still looked away, hating the way Zoro seemed to know all the right words to make him flustered, one way or another.
The private show the other man was giving him only lasted a few minutes, entirely too short in the French's opinion. Soon enough he stood before him, all dressed up as none other than the mythical legend Zorro.
Sanji grinned brightly at him, "You don't look half bad,"
Roronoa rolled his eye, stealing a look of himself in the reflection on the window.
"I'll kill you for this shit," he grumbled, "This is the cheesiest thing I've ever done."
It was true, the costume even provided a cheap, nylon cape which caught the fluorescent glint of the indoor lighting and added some bonus cringe points.
Sanji licked his lips, "You know Chopper will love it. Luffy probably too."
Zoro smirked, the look on his face shifting from slight annoyance to something else entirely, something warm and caring.
"Yeah, they will."
Speaking of the devil, the two flew in the room, much like a tornado of emotions.
"Sanji, the costume is so awesome!" the kid cried out, round grey eyes full of happiness and excitment.
The chef felt his heart melt at the sight, wishing he could seal this moment forever, so he could go back and play it on repeat, marvel at the three content faces that stood before him.
"I can't believe you got me a pirate costume!" Luffy all but shouted and the smoker was positive people in a radius of a few miles were hearing about it.
"How did you even know it was my childhood dream to be a pirate!?" he demanded, dark gaze full of awe,
The blonde shrugged nonchantly, "Must have been a hunch,"
He eyed Luffy who was dressed up in a stereotypical pirate attire, despite sternly refusing to have an eye patch as he deemed it would interfere with his trick-or-treating abilities, whatever that meant.
"Thank you so much!" the younger man cried out, throwing himself around Sanji's torso suddenly.
The chef froze on spot, sensing two long, skinny arms wrap around him as Luffy all but buried his head into his chest.
The contact was awkward at first, he was so unused to hugs, he'd almost forgot how they felt. Him and Law never embraced, despite carrying the unofficial tittle of best friends. The closest they'd got to a hug was that whole half armed thing they did at their university graduation. (And that been purely because Zeff had insisted, while pestering them about taking photos of them).
Slowly Sanji wrapped his arms around Luffy, returning the hug.
"This is the best Halloween ever!" The noirette shouted, rendering him nearly deaf in one ear.
"Glad you like it," he responded, turning to face the trio.
Zoro looked like hotness wrapped up in a cheap Halloween costume. Luffy fitted into the role nicely, as though he was born to be a pirate, travelling through the seas with some marry and probably equally crazy crew.
And Chopper was the cutest reindeer he'd ever seen. The boy looked adorable, dressed up as the animal, he'd even put the antlers which completed the look and a red nose (drawn with the lipstick Luffy had somewhere in his pockets and Sanji most definitely did not want to know where he got it from).
 xxx
"Well?" Luffy demanded impatiently, bouncing on the heels of his feet, "Get dressed up as well! You don't get to go costume free."
Sanji smirked at them, retrieving towards the bathroom to change. He caught the disappointed look which flashed on Zoro's face and it made him a little smug – so the bastard did want to steal a glance of him!
Hopefully, that would happen too, though the chef didn't want to rush into things, despite the few dreams he'd already had about the two of them.
Upon retrieving there were a couple of gasps as they took him in,
"You're an elf!" Luffy screamed enthusiastically, clapping his hands at his own clever of observation.
"A garden elf or something, blondie?" Zoro demanded, smirking at him.
The cook shot him a dirty look, "No, moss for brains! For your information I am in fact-"
"Legolas!" Chopper cried out happily, eyes wide in amazement as he seemed to make the connection, "Dad, look, he even has a bow and an arrow!"
Roronoa appeared puzzled to no end, his gaze darting between the chef and his smartass son who was for sure a geek in the making,
"Uh, so this Legolas thing…he supposed to be a cartoon character or something?"
"No, dad," Chopper shook his head, the way kids did when they were eager to correct an adult making a mistake, "He's that cool elf from that big book I read, "Lord of the Rings,"
Zoro grinned, ruffling the kid's hair lovingly, "I swear, kiddo, you're too smart for your own good."
Sanji smiled warmly at the scene, memories of him and Zeff going through his head. Truth to be told his adoptive father would always fall asleep during their movie marathons but still, it was the effort that counted. He missed the old fart, he should call more often.
"I can't believe you dressed like a character from a kid's book," Zoro teased, a devious look on his tan face.
The French felt a flicker of indignation in him come to the surface, sending him a glare, "For your information "Lord of the Rings" is anything but a kid's book, it's a classic!"
"Whatever you say, blondie," Roronoa grinned, then he moved in and sealed their lips.
Luffy made an excited squeal and Chopper appeared unfazed, too preoccupied to marvel at his own costume.
Sanji smiled against the kiss, it felt warm and good and right.
Zoro tasted of sake and steel and he smelled like some cheap aftershave, still it was his nirvana and he melted into the contacted, unwilling for it to end. Their tongues collided, it felt like a challenge, something fun and simple, with the lingering feeling of something more, something yet to be explored.
For one long moment he let himself have this, soak in the feeling of happiness, grateful he'd chosen to chase after Zoro that fateful day.
 xxx
"Where are we going now?" Luffy demanded excitedly, as soon as they stepped outside, "Can we please go trick or treating already?! Ace and I loved doing it when we were kids!"
Sanji opened his mouth to question who Ace was but thought against it, he'd ask another time or if the brunette felt like it, he'd share himself,
"Not yet. We have to get Mr. Grumpy here, then we head out."
"You mean, Torao right!?" the younger man cried out, "I can't wait to see him play dress up!"
"Mr. Law is coming too!?" Chopper appeared elated, "He's so cool, one day I'll be a doctor, just like him!"
Zoro patted his son on the shoulder as he held the jacket for him, "Of course you will,"
Sanji smiled, Law had better appreciate he was all but dragging him out of the apartment and offering him the chance to make friends for once.
"By the way, Sanji…you have any idea why Torao didn't reply to the text I sent him from your phone? I even asked him on a date! How mean of him not to respond!"
 xxx
Law glared at his Messenger app, squinting his eyes as he took in the picture of a very happy looking Luffy.
He snorted, throwing the small device away from him.
Unfortunately he wasn't on duty that night which meant he got to spend the night at home, with the lights turned off in vain hope that perhaps the damn kids from the neighbourhood wouldn't bother him that way.
"Meow," Beppo jumped on his bed, invading the covers and claiming his rightful spot at the Spaniard's feet.
Trafalgar sighed, running tan fingers through the cat's long, soft fur,
"Don't meow-me, you're so fortunate,' he mumbled, "You're just a cat – you're not forced to socialize, make friends. And celebrate this dumb Holiday."
The cat meowed once more, as though mocking him.
Law grunted, these monologues he was having with his cat were getting concerning.
Perhaps he really needed to get laid.
It was then that Luffy's text flashed before his eyes, "Wanna go out on a date?"
And that was garnered with a photo of the brunette, that same sunny grin, which seemed to be his trademark, gracing his attractive tan face.
Law covered his eyes with a hand and sighed loudly. For the past few days no matter what he did his thoughts dragged him back to that same loud, obnoxious and kind of daring he say it - cute - noirette.
Luffy – what kind of name was that anyway? And going on a date? Didn't Sanji inform him – Law doesn't go on dates! No, he just has sex with hot people in bars, every once in a blue moon. Then he gets back to his usual lonesome life as a surgeon with a shady past. Yeah, his life would make a good TV series.
"Man, I need to go out and find someone," he thought to himself, staring at the white ceiling of his room. Great, even his own home looked as sterile as a hospital these days.
Perhaps, going on a date wasn't such a bad idea, minus the whole small talk and the obligatory fake smiles. Not to mention how would he even find one?
It was then that Luffy's sunny image flashed before his eyes, all sparkly eyes and smooth tan skin.
The kid did want a date, didn't he? Trafalgar scoffed but still took another appreciate glance at his photo, he did look good.
So…what if? No! He couldn't think about that, he was Sanji's friend and he seemed naïve and kind enough, the sort of guy who wanted an actual date and not a mind blowing one night stand. He would probably even want to hold his hand and go to the movies. Law on the other hand, had different ideas about fun,
The image of two of them, tangled in the sheets flashed through his brain and then-
The doorbell rang. How anticlimactic.
Trafalgar grunted, covering his face and his ears with the fluffy pillow and pretending he was asleep. Maybe the damn kids would scatter away and leave him alone if he kept really quiet...
"I know you're in there, asshole!"
The Spaniard froze in spot – wasn't that Sanji's voice? Perhaps the blonde had decided to drag him out of the house and for them to head out, maybe even find some dates.
"Torao, you'd better bring candy!" he heard another voice and to his horror (and perhaps his delight as well) it was Luffy's.
His heart sped up, a small part of him thinking what were the odds the man he was thinking about would just show up at his door. If were a romantic, he'd say it was fate or something like that but he wasn't one to think about that. Hesitantly Law headed for the door, shaking his head, it was going to be a long night.

Hey! Since your requests are open, may I request opla!Zoro x reader (established relationship) where the reader has a lot of self doubt (not only in their looks, but their abilities and their place in the crew) since it’s, unfortunately, been shoved done their throat by pretty much eveyone they knew, even their parents, that they would never be good enough? Maybe Zoro figures out that they have sort of been spiralling lately and they have a talk about the readers past and the problems they’re facing and he comforts them? Maybe it ends sort of spicy or turns out full on spicy, if you’re comfortable with that!

It was morning on the Going Merry, and you were cleaning up the wreckage that had been scattered along the deck in your last battle. The crew had gone up against some other pirates; it’d been late at night, and the attack had come suddenly, what you’d thought would be a peaceful docking turning combative quickly.
You barely remembered the fight. One moment, the warning bell had sounded, and the next Zoro was rolling out of bed beside you, grabbing his swords and darting out of your bedroom before you could even register what was happening. The fight had gone in the Straw Hats’ favor, thankfully; Zoro, Luffy, and Sanji had fended off most of the threat, and you were back on the open sea, safe from enemies for at least a little while now.
You let out a sigh as you swept shattered glass into a dustpan, shaking out the collected trash into a nearby empty barrel. None of the men usually bothered to start cleaning up—typical—so you’d pulled yourself out of bed as early as possible to get the ship looking a little more like normal.
Zoro had left some corpses on the deck for you to deal with, and you’d had to toss them overboard, a grimace tugging at your lips as blood stained the white of your blouse. No matter. You’d finished sweeping, at least; all you had left to do was mop, right as everyone else was waking up.
You filled a bucket with warm water and soap, and were just grabbing the mop from the closet when you heard footsteps. You glanced up, surprised to see Zoro heading towards you, one hand grasped loosely around his sword handle as always. “You’re up early,” he said, casual as ever. “Woke up and you were gone.”
“Figured I should get a head start on cleaning,” you answered quickly, not meeting Zoro’s eyes as you dunked the mop into the bucket. His brows creased as he watched you start mopping, pushing the handle along the deck to wipe it clear of bloodstains.
“How long have you been doing this?” Zoro asked, after a few seconds of delayed silence. You shrugged, dunking your mop again before going for another few swipes. “We can help clean too, you know.”
“It’s the least I can do,” you protested. You moved past him, trying very hard not to meet his eyes—but Zoro didn’t let you pass, one hand going out to grab the mop rod and stopping you in your tracks. “What?”
“What do you mean, least you could do?” Zoro asked blankly.
“I mean—” you shrugged, muscles limp like your entire body was sagging you down. “You and the others were the ones to deal with the pirates, so I figured I could at least—”
Zoro still looked confused, brows pulled together, forehead taut with a frown. “I distinctly recall you throwing a pirate twice your size overboard. Unless I was imagining things.”
You sighed. “Not what I meant.” You tried to push past Zoro again, but he didn’t let you, hand still tightly grasped around your mop handle.
“Okay, what did you mean, then?”
“Nothing. Will you just let me finish cleaning so there aren't blood stains all over Luffy’s ship?” You sighed again, even as you attempted to keep the sound inside—but you couldn’t help it. It was like there was an anchor stuck inside of you, pulling everything from your feelings to your body down, the weight of gravity tugging at your features.
“Luffy’s ship?”
You shrugged. “The Straw Hats’ ship. Whatever.”
“Our ship,” Zoro said. There was a certain twinge of something in his words; still blankness, but laced with a dawning realization that you weren’t sure you liked. “You’re upset.”
“Nope.” This time you really did manage to get free of Zoro’s grasp, yanking your mop out of his grip and starting back on cleaning the deck. The acrid smell of iron hit your nose as you scrubbed the dried blood off—you’d have to go back in later with a sponge to get all the cracks and crevices, but for now this would be okay.
Zoro followed you, unceasing with his interrogation. “Yes, you are. I know when you’re upset, and you’re upset. What happened.” It was more of a statement than a question—Zoro didn’t often doubt himself, really, which was one of the many things that’d helped make you stumble into falling for him. “Was it about last night? You know the cook's just making fun when he keeps a counter, right? It doesn’t matter if he brought two or five more men down than you.”
“It’s not about that,” you insisted.
“So you admit you are upset.”
You groaned, finally turning to look Zoro in the eye. He’d stopped walking, the dawning sun glinting hazey gold onto his skin in the early hour. There was still an overcast of blue from the night in the sky, and it made the heavens look ethereal, watery and glittering.
“Come on,” he urged. “Just tell me what’s wrong.”
“It’s really nothing you need to be concerned about,” you attempted, but your voice was weak now. Zoro stepped closer to you, gently pulling the mop out of your hands. Your fingers let go easily. “It’s silly.”
Zoro gave you a look. “Out with it.”
“I don’t know, I just—” your fingers clenched, like your hand was trying to find something to do now that Zoro had rid you of your mop. “Comparatively I just don’t do much. So I want to help out as much as possible.”
“Who said you don’t do much?”
“What?”
“I don’t think I need to repeat myself,” Zoro said. He let the mop fall to the ground, arms crossing over his chest as he watched you. “Who said you don’t do much?”
“I mean, nobody. It’s just true.” You shrugged, distinctly uncomfortable with the way Zoro was looking at you—all attentive, like he was trying to strip you raw with his eyes, uncover whatever secrets might be hiding in the pores of your skin and the gaps of your teeth. “Luffy’s the captain, we wouldn’t be able to do anything without Nami, you and Sanji are the fighters, and Usopp’s everyone’s favorite. I’m just kind of… filler?”
The more you spoke, the worse your words got, your tone turning more desperate as the sentences fumbled out of your mouth. Zoro’s eyebrows raised higher as you went on, and you flushed, red prickling all over your skin.
“First of all,” he started, “Usopp is not my favorite. That’d be you. And—where are you getting this from?”
You shook your head, trying to backtrack. “Nothing. Nowhere. It’s not that import—”
“Yes, it is, and we’re talking about it.” Zoro pulled a nearby barrel by the side of the ship, plopping himself down atop it and gesturing for you to sit. You didn’t, but you did move over to the railing, hands curling around the painted wood. “Speak.”
“I have nothing to say,” you tried. Zoro just shot you an unimpressed look, and you squirmed. “Fine. I don’t know. I joined last, so I just figured… you were all kind of already set without me, right?”
Zoro shook his head. “We’re a crew,” he said, voice strong but somehow still gentle. “You’re part of us for a reason. What, this entire time did you think you were—expendable?”
You fidgeted uncomfortably, weight shifting from one leg to the other. “No.”
“Don’t lie.”
“Yes. No. I don’t know. Last night—I only got, like what, two guys? And you reacted way faster to the situation than I did,” you started, words flailing around on your tongue as they rushed out. It was indelicate, for certain, and you yourself couldn’t make sense of most of the words—but once you started, you couldn’t stop, even as they slurred together. “I was still getting out of bed and grabbing my weapon when you’d already dealt with half the enemy crew.”
“Don’t compare yourself to me,” Zoro said with a shake of his head. “That’s not fair. I’ve been training since I was eight. It’s different.”
You huffed out an exasperated breath, trying not to let your frustration get the best of you. “I can't help it sometimes. It’s a bad habit.” You loosened your grip on the ship railing, staring out at the golden clouds hovering over the sky.  “Sorry.”
“Don’t apologize,” Zoro answered. He didn’t say anything after that—giving you a space to talk, you supposed, in case you wanted to. But his hand did reach up to press against yours, pinky brushing against your finger as he held onto the railing beside you.
“I guess I just always had these standards back at the village,” you managed out eventually. Your island had always been one of the more traditional places in the East Blue, and there were plenty rules and guidelines abound. One of the many reasons you’d left the place in favor for Luffy and the Going Merry, really. “So I just… always want to do more. It’s not that bad.”
“Right.” Zoro’s pinky looped around your finger, now, holding it close in a soft kiss of the hands. You sighed.
“My parents were kind of rough on me, I guess,” you tried, sneaking a glance over at Zoro’s face to see if it satiated his curiosity at all. His expression remained as steel as ever, so you just continued. “They wanted me to be the best I could. But their standards were too high, even when I was little.” You found yourself rubbing circles into the back of Zoro’s hand with your finger, more so to comfort yourself than for any other reason. “Just normal stuff, like being upset about my school grades or my combat training levels being too low. Nothing that terrible.”
“But…?” Zoro asked, tilting his head up to look at you. You smiled, but the action didn’t reach your eyes—it was all mouth and jaw, cheeks lifting but eyes glinting with the same glazed stare.
“It just affected me a lot, I suppose,” you answered. “Always trying to get better. Never satisfied. And I guess now—I don’t know. I don’t think I’ll ever be good enough.”
“For?” Zoro asked. His voice was low, soft, all hollow and empty inside. There was a tinge of roughness lacing it, like he’d forgotten to clear his throat, and the scratch of his vocal chords had surfaced up along with the words.
“Myself. My parents. Luffy. You.” Your lips tightened into a line. Vaguely, you could feel the warm pinpricks of tears starting at your waterline, and you tried to will them back, letting out a little laugh. “Everyone, I guess.”
Zoro’s hand had come to hold yours fully, fingers woven in between yours, thumb pressed firmly against the joint of your thumb. Somehow, that one motion managed to force the last of the words out of you—all wet and soft, eyes glued fiercely to the horizon in fear of seeing what was etched on Zoro’s face.
“We do arranged marriages back at home,” you started, trying very hard to keep your voice from trembling. it worked only marginally—there was a tiny quaver in your tone, but it was soft, not noticeable unless you were really listening hard. “And my mom used to tell me I’d die alone. Because I wasn’t pretty enough, or smart enough, or anything enough for any of the boys there.”
“Oh,” Zoro said. It was quiet; barely a whisper. You tried for a wry smile.
“I like helping, though. I don’t mind cleaning up or whatever. It makes me feel more useful.” You tried to tug your hand out of Zoro’s grip, but his fingers tightened, keeping you in place. A nervous laugh escaped your throat. “And I know I’m part of the crew and all of this is just silly. So it’s really fine—”
Zoro tugged your intertwined hands to his chest, causing you to stumble and glance down at him in surprise. His expression was nearly unreadable. It’d darkened, and there was a contemplative gaze in his eyes, lips parted with invisible words perched on his tongue. “Don’t do that,” he whispered, and your stomach dropped, the nervousness that had gathered inside during the conversation tightening up into a hall. “Don’t say it’s okay or that it’s not important. If it’s making you upset, then it matters.”
“I guess,” you tried, and Zoro’s gaze lifted to fix you with a glare. “Sorry.”
“It’s okay, I just…” Zoro shook his head. “Look, whatever your parents used to tell you, whatever you have ingrained in your head—it’s not true. And there’s nothing wrong with wanting to do more, but… you don’t have to do it. You’re enough already.”
Your gaze softened, lips falling open to say something, but Zoro wasn’t finished yet. “You shouldn’t come out here and force yourself to clean up just to make up for your—waste of space, or something. You’re not a servant. And you’re not wasting up any space. I think everyone would agree that you’re a very important and vital part of the crew.”
“Thanks,” you whispered. Zoro’s hand was warm around yours, and you felt the threatening droplets of tears start to rise up at your waterline, ready to fall at any moment now. Zoro just nodded.
“You’re a great fighter, and way smarter than what you give yourself credit for,” he said firmly. He raised your hand to his mouth, then, leaning over to press a feather-light kiss to your knuckles. “And the boys on your island have to be blind, because you’re pretty enough. You’re more than pretty enough.”
He whispered the last words, all soft and sacred on his tongue. “You’re beautiful.”
That was enough to drive your tears over the edge. You squeezed your eyes shut, trying to stop the flow as the warm sensation of liquid streaking down your cheeks began. Droplets caught in the crevice of your lips, and at the hinge of your jaw—Zoro brought a hand up to wipe them away. “Are you okay?” he whispered.
“Yeah, I just, um.” You shook your head, sniffing. “Thank you. That… helped. I think.”
Zoro bummed out his response. “Of course,” he said easily. “You’re my girl. It’s my job to cheer you up.” He kissed your knuckles again. “And you can talk to any of us. I’m not really the best at this, but everyone else…” he shrugged.
“You’re doing just fine,” you assured him. Zoro nodded, tugging you down until you finally took a seat on a crate beside him. “I think it’s just been worse lately.”
“If it makes you feel any better, I think you’re better than the waiter,” Zoro said. You just laughed.
“I think you’re biased, but thank you,” you said. “Here, I, um, I promise I’ll let you know if I’m feeling down, I guess. If you don’t mind.”
“Definitely don’t mind,” Zoro answered. This time he placed a gentle kiss on your neck, somewhere at the bottom near the back. “Leave the mopping for someone else. You’ve already done a lot.”
“Okay,” you whispered, eyes fluttering closed as Zoro kissed the rest of the way up the back of your neck. He placed a final one right below your earlobe. With that, Zoro stood up, sweeping one arm under your legs and hoisting you up. You cracked open an eye to regard him with a blank look. “What are you doing?”
“Bringing you back to my room,” Zoro answered. “You didn’t get much sleep tonight. And I doubt anyone wants to watch me kissing you on the main deck anyway.”
That was fair enough reasoning, so you didn’t complain, letting him carry you all the way to his cabin and gently lay you down onto his bed. He leaned over to press a gentle kiss to your lips—you could still taste the saltwater from your tears from before. “Want me to stay?” Zoro asked.
“You don’t have to,” you said automatically, and Zoro raised both his eyebrows. You let out a sigh. “Okay, I get it. Yes. Please stay.”
“All you had to say,” Zoro said, shedding himself of his shoes and swords before leaning over the bed to watch you. He didn’t slip under the covers or anything, just propped an arm up on the mattress, kneeling beside the bed. There was tender silence for a few moments before Zoro spoke again.
“I love you,” he said abruptly, voice rough but somehow still soft. Your heart beat too fast in your chest, ribcage squeezing in on the organ and making it skip. His hand slid along the mattress to find yours, and you took the offer, fingers clasping around his palm.
“I love you too,” you whispered back. Zoe leaned over, then, the hand not intertwined with yours tilting your jaw over just so to allow him better access to your mouth. He kissed you full-on, tender but firm, mouth working against yours in a way that unraveled you entirely. Your grip on his hand tightened as he deepened the kiss, a soft sound emitting from low in your throat. Finally you broke apart, heaving for breath, exhales mixing together midair. An exchange of souls, you’d heard once, somewhere.
“Come on,” you murmured, tugging Zoro closer to the bed so he got the hint. He slipped beside you onto it, turning your head again to meet you in another kiss. His hand drifted down to your waist, holding you securely in place.
“I don’t think anyone should need us for a few more hours, right?” Zoro asked, and you laughed. He swallowed up the sounds with his mouth, tongue licking languidly into you as he rubbed delicate circles into the skin of your waist. “You’re beautiful,” he whispered, and then he was kissing you again.
You let him siphon the soul out of your lungs, knowing you were getting his right back.
