scamp is no stranger to the sound of knocking at his window in the wee hours of the morning, most nights he has even come to expect it. the lamp clicks on, flooding the room with a warm HOMELY orange light, all the while casting its own share of long dark shadows. a balance of light and dark, how very fitting. he pads sleepily towards the window, smoothing down golden curls as he stifles a yawn. 

“ busy  night?  sun’s  almost  up. ” 

he can't help but CRINGE slightly at the sound of wood scraping breaking the silence as he slides the window open, stepping back to allow his visitor inside. though, within moments of the familiar figure enters the room he senses something isn't right, and as soon as the puffy swollen features of an unmasked dick grayson step forth from the shadows and into the light, he rushes back into his space, full of concern.

“ dick?  hey,  dickie,  what  is  it?  what’s  wrong? ” 

no nightwing, no scamp, no masks or games. not tonight. oliver reaches up to pull dick into his arms, holding his face against his neck and burying his fingers DEEP into dark locks of hair. he leads them blindly, backwards through the room, dropping down into an armchair and pulling the much taller down on top of him.

“ d’you  want’a  talk  about  it? ” oliver mumbles against dick’s crown, one hand rubs gently across the span of the other’s back, the other lightly dragging digits through raven hair, both slowly trying their best to SOOTHE.

Okay. But you're not killing cops or firebombing government offices. You are posting on a dying microblogging website to a carefully-curated echo chamber that has radicalized itself into thinking that taking the absolute most extreme position on any subject is praxis but that anyone discussing the most practical way to effect actual change is your sworn enemy. You do not have the street cred OR the activist cred to be talking about killing cops, babe.

There’s that post that’s like ‘everyone should get into a tiny niche fandom at least once’ fully agree, that was really fun -- but I would like to add that everyone should get into a fandom where their opinions run counter to major fanon because it really teaches you about sticking to your guns and trusting your interpretation of the text without having to rely on peer validation

See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn't need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.

It's not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it's the type of interaction people have. They're content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.

Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.

If you want more of something, reblog it.

To the people saying "Jason wouldn't have jumped into tartarus for Piper, like Percy did for Annabeth" as a way to demean him.
