Trey/Vil headcanons, please?

To be completely honest with you, the last time we got asked about this ship I was just mildly intrigued by it, but the more I think about it, the more it kind of rapidly grows on me.  In fact, I ended up writing a bunch of hella long headcanons lol For some reason I have too much to say about them.

So yeah, some headcanons about these two…

Vil really likes flirting with Trey. He keeps things between them “neutrally friendly” and even professional for the most part, of course, but whenever they are alone he just can’t help but tease Trey a little bit. Maybe it’s because Trey is always so well put together and awkwardly “neutral” in his reaction, as if he’s trying to deflect the flirting, but at the same time he clearly doesn’t mind it. What a cunning man: he wants to play along, but doesn’t want to make it his responsibility. But yeah, there is obvious tension between them, and if they’re left together for more than 20 minutes, their chat would turn weirdly sexual for some reason.

Vil doesn’t buy Trey’s normal guy façade for a second. He knows that he has a darker side, but doesn’t fully understand just how dark it is; he just thinks that Trey is a bit of a freak + mainly notes how Trey’s sickly-sweet niceness and overly-caring nature do more harm than good. He thinks it’s both accidental and intentional: of course it’s natural for Trey to take care of people… but he is clearly an obsessive and overprotective enabler type who has a selfish side. He is both a huge people-pleaser and someone who oversteps personal boundaries “for the sake of the better good”. A huge red flag that really irritates Vil. So he wouldn’t want to be in any type of serious relationship with Trey, he probably doesn’t even generally expect it to become anything more than just flirting, but he’s having too much fun with Trey sometimes…

Trey also isn’t really interested in any kind of serious relationship with Vil, although if he was asked about it he would say something like “come on, a guy like me? That’s just ridiculous”, implying that he is way too plain to be with someone like Vil. But this is just an excuse, because he feels like with Vil he can’t really play his usual game of overbearing kindness: he knows Vil doesn’t fully buy it. But he still enjoys getting Vil something nice every now and then: like bringing him those fancy silks from the Scalding Sands… Seeing Vil, who is usually so serious and regal, suddenly all excited and giggly is the best thing. Well, the second best after all the flirting that leads to the unbearable sexual tension that always gets cut short by some random circumstances.

Even though 90% of their flirty chats is one of them going “oh you, stop it”, when one of them finally leans for a kiss, it’ll be a pretty… reciprocal (?) kiss. So none of them would get a second to realise what’s going on, they would just start kissing. And even though they spent quite a long time playing around with the idea, exchanging flirtations and eyeing each other, once their lips touch, they won’t hold back anymore. Both of them probably wouldn’t be virgins by that time, so… the whole thing is probably going to be rather self-indulgent for both of them.

They’re not exactly each other’s type but they do find each other very attractive. It’s unusual for Trey to go for someone taller… even taller than he is in fact, but he still loved Vil’s long legs wayyyy more than he anticipated.

Trey got really surprised by Vil’s flexibility the first time they had sex. He knew that he’s pretty flexible, since he does yoga and all, but… wow. The fact that Vil was feeling playful and was showing off a little bit certainly added to the effect.

Vil also got surprised, but it was by Trey’s kinkiness. He has a pretty god radar when it comes to what people are into, but he doesn’t think about it much; so he knew that Trey is definitely into some weird stuff, but he didn’t know it was “shoving fingers into one’s mouth and touching teeth and tongue” weird. Vil isn’t sure how he felt about it: he thinks it turned him off a bit, but his body reacted way too excitedly for that to be a 100% truth.

hey! so the many names song and peter explore a similar storyline from different perspectives imo. the many names song is all about pining for someone you left, wondering if they want you back, and watching life go by as both of you still think about each other (or at least you hope the other person does). ‘just say I loved you the way that you were’ is such a painful line, because on the one hand, it would mean that person misses the original, more authentic version of the narrator before they felt the need to ‘change into goddesses, villains, and fools.’ that’s sweet, except that person clearly doesn’t exist anymore. does the subject of the song resent the narrator for changing? does the narrator resent him for wishing she hadn’t changed, or does she secretly long for that? I have no idea who the song is about (have entertained harry, matty, and joe lol), but I do think it’s likely that it takes place before the events of the main album. it’s very similar to fortnight, because it explores the possibility of the two of them forever longing for a love they can’t get back. obviously, the main album makes it clear that the love is regained, but this song comes before that narrative.

peter is actually clearer to me. I think it’s the final statement in the album about the breakup (imo with joe - feels wayyyy too tender to be about matty after the smallest man who ever lived), and it ties perfectly into the bolter. it’s an acknowledgment that the two people couldn’t have made it work no matter how hard they tried, because they were in different places in their life. she really tries to keep the light burning for him, but she ultimately realizes it won’t ever work, so she puts it out and ‘bolts’ again. the next song explains that bolting is all she’s ever done in her life, but she did everything she could not to bolt this time around, and it still didn’t work. perhaps she needed to escape after all! because she survived escaping, and she may not have survived if she had stayed. This is the least helpful answer, lol. I spent WAYYYY too long doing these just to answer this question... But here are mood boards for the two fics I'm working on :)

I don't want to say anything about them because I could easily change my mind about what I want to share eighteen times before posting them so we're doing this instead. Save Me (From Myself) will probably come out first because it's shorter - probably around 100k - and just a straightforward, fun, smutty fic and has a birthday deadline.

I'm really excited about Just Say The World (We'll Take On The World), but it's a mammoth project from a research and prep point of view. I mean, mainly because of who I am as a person. I could probably just write it, but that's... just not how I work. I have a playlist for it - because of course I do - so I'll put that here too.

Anyway, I should probably actually write now, or neither of them will see the light of day lol.

I so appreciate you asking this question and I do have a lot of thoughts about it, so many that this response is long, and there is discussion of the dubious situations of consent and sexual coercion that happens in the show so for safety I'm putting the rest of this under a read more. simply put....yes, unfortunately I do think it fits the MO of Dan Humphrey, Self-Saboteur. the specifics of the situation are more complex than that -- which I'll get to in a sec -- but yes, I think it makes sense for his character. he does have this pattern. when he and Vanessa were having problems at the end of s3 and beginning of s4 (again. complex!) he turned to Serena, and in s2 when he and Serena were on the ropes (again) his crush on She Who Will Not Be Named got wayyyy too out of hand, and in s1 when he felt that Serena was withholding and on the verge of breaking up with him, he spent the night with Georgina.

Actually, come to think of it, there's intricate complications to all these events that exacerbates the abandonment issues Dan already has - complications that aren't necessarily within his control (His grief over Milo; stress of Vanessa's summer abroad/his father's marriage/Jenny's depression; being led on by an adult that should have known better; Georgina's manipulation of Serena's attachment to him). That being said, he does have this pattern, ever since his mother leaves and Vanessa leaves him for the first time, that when he sees trouble coming, when he sees the fall out of being left coming, he acts out, almost as if to do something egregious enough to justify being left. something to make himself deserve it.

So, with all of that character stuff at play, it makes sense that Dan would try to...numb the pain of Blair leaving him for someone else with Serena. BUT. I would be remiss if I were to talk about this and not address the truly fucked up behavior Serena exhibits in the episode (and arguably - I'll get to it in a minute - she kind of didn't need to?):

She knows of Dan's ultimatum to Blair to show up for him at this party, and therefore conspires to keep Blair away as long as possible, she gets Dan drunk and vulnerable and alone, and disrobed (I think she spills a drink on them? it's been a while since I've watched because it Upsets Me and furthermore it is Fake), and when she has enough circumstantial evidence to prove Blair is currently with Chuck, she makes her move, and Dan, drunk, alone, and vulnerable, falls into his pattern of self-sabotage. AND - Serena films their whole encounter without his prior knowledge or consent, as....blackmail material? I think she was planning to show Blair as some twisted revenge thing?

The cracks of Dair's breakup were already there, but not irreparable: Blair was afraid of this new future, Dan was a bunch of raw nerve endings stacked up together wearing a trenchcoat after falling in love so hard for someone every damn time for the last five years, and they were both fragile from that. But what Serena did, to manipulate the situation and spin it to her advantage, she did because she is perhaps one of the few people in the world who knows blair and dan so well to prey upon their vulnerabilities like this, and because she's serena, they both trust her, and she exploits that trust, and violates Dan in an...irreparable kind of way.

and, as I've been writing this response I've been thinking....she really did not have to go that far. and to what end? gossip!serena as we know is #notmyserena, but the...the extent of the troubles she took to orchestrate how everything went down, using the minions (or maybe just Penelope?), the revenge porn (BOOO BAD NO GOOD VERY BAD), all the manipulations, she didn't have to. Or, at least, the writing of the show could have executed the circumstance better, without the cost to serena's character or dan and serena's relationship.

I joke about Gossip Girl's original sin being pivoting Chuck Bass into being the romantic male lead without actually trying, but maybe the real original sin, before they tried that, was the compulsion to always be upping the stakes, to make the character's actions escalate to the most salacious things they could think of in that moment, without considering what living out those situations would do to a real person. You could throw a dart at any plot point really and see this, but it becomes more blatant as the show goes on, and you can sort of...well, like this post, see the stitching on the back of the canvas. the gaps are more gaping and harder to explain away. having two characters break up wasn't enough, they had to make it as dramatic as possible, without the consideration of the toll that it would take on the characters involved. Blair sure, Serena yes, but especially Dan.

Yeah I'm just really confused by it cause out of about all the interactions we've had, I sort of got the feeling he at least wanted to get to know me or like get in contact with me or whatever and then with this, it could've been so easy and then he doesn't? Idk it just makes me question things. *bit of a irrelevant rant incoming but i had to get this off my chest, skip to the next paragraph if this looks too long lol* Cause Tuesday I asked him and a friend to come to the thing on Friday cause there was another thing on Monday that practically no one came to and I felt sad about no one coming for the organiser's sake (both things were kind of in a broader project we and the friend are a part of). And he was very confused with the days, didn't know there was a thing on Monday and didn't know whether he was gonna be able to make it on Friday which if he had plans that's fine I can understand that, he never even said he was gonna come anyway so I respect that. But then the fact that it was my birthday and he doesn't text me is weird imo cause hypothetically if you like someone, you'd obviously text them for their birthday right? Like the other day when it was his birthday I obviously texted him yk? And he should've got the notification on fb that it was my birthday so yeah he must've known? If he was interested I think that it would've made sense to just text me to be like sorry can't make it to the event, have a nice birthday though or whatever right? Also it's honestly not that big of a deal but I just feel like I've sort of exhausted the ideas of being able to do something with him organically outside of class so it sort of feels like it's gonna be a dead end now. Cause there's only three more weeks left of the semester, after that I'm gonna see him probably three more times in June for exams and then after that I won't see him at all from July through January, maybe short of in calls for online events, cause I'm supposed to go on exchange abroad next term and he's staying in Belgium. So since I'm not cancelling my exchange for some boy or waiting around till February, it kind of feels like nothing's really gonna come from this at this rate which would just suck

Alright dramatics aside, I did have a pretty nice birthday! I think it would've been a step-up regardless cause I spent my previous two birthdays in lockdown so it was nice to actually see some people again! I went for coffee with my dad, went to the event, then my best friend came to my uni to have coffee with me as well and then I had to give a presentation that went pretty well I think? So nothing too crazy but wayyyy better than my last two birthdays haha

Various things to say today

1. My hair looks so cute! I tried a different hairstyle and I’m really happy with it. It looks masc but is still cute, definitely gonna be a recurring style until I get my hair cut (and I might get my hair cut based on this hmmmm). In general I’m feeling myself today, I look so cute!! My skin has been clearing up, and I’ve felt motivated to continue writing so I’m feeling good :>

2. I got stopped in the hall by one of the teachers at the school I work at and she said she almost didn’t recognize me because I looked so beautiful and complimented my fashion. Then, not too long after, the teacher I usually work with said she really liked my pants and asked about them. Just in general, I’m getting noticed?? I guess confidence probably helps with that lol

3. The iced coffee I had today (posted earlier) was just what I needed. Sooo good, I need to learn to make iced coffee at home or something.

4. Spent some time with the art teacher at the end of the day during class and helped a mute student with some work. I know teachers are already stressed dealing with big classes, so I’m happy to be able to provide even a bit of support to the students who need extra.

5. Also in that class, two separate students asked the art teacher if she was pregnant (she’s not). She thought it was hilarious though, wasn’t seriously offended at all lmao

6. In general I really like working with the art teacher. I see her as more of a friend now, and I really look up to her.

7. Another thing I love about working at the school is learning more about what goes on behind the scenes and, subsequently, the Drama. I enjoy drama wayyyy too much lmao.

Yeah, eventful day. Obvs more stuff happened but not really stuff I can type into a public blog lol. I know I’m happy though considering I’ve taken pictures of myself today?? That never happens lmao, not usually my first instinct, and I hate taking pictures of myself. But I look/feel good today!
