Happy things (because I've been moping recently and decided to stop akdlödlf)

- A week until the holidays!!!!!!! I get to see my friends at home and my family over the break >:] I also organised cards and have bought novelty chocolates for my family akdldlfl (Germans may think theyre just normal but to me they're funny)

- I have chocolate in my cupboard!!

- So many fun books (not "work" books) waiting to be read over the break 🥹

- I'm going to get Hungarian chimney cake at the xmas market if I have time to go there before I fly home

- I get to fly home and consume blueberry juice on the plane 😌😌😌😌😌😌😌😌 my favourite 😭 its almost cringe how much I like it but I'm not ashamed xD

- I get to go to the airport! (I actually kind of like airports, they make me feel like a glamorous international businesswoman and/or adventurer 😭😂)

- My room/apartment (omfg its literally like. the size of my previous room) is clean rn and I changed my sheets<3 cozy

- My internet just got way better since I got a proper router today! Can actually download pdfs bigger than 5 mb now akdlld

- After being in Germany for just 3 months, I'm settled at my cool university, I have a really cool part-time job, and I've made friends in my classes in a way I never did in undergrad 🥹 I've also explored 3 different cities and seen 5 different musical/theatre things!

- My classes are really interesting!!!

- I'm getting a feel for what I want to do after uni. I think going abroad to study was important in showing me that you can go live abroad lol (and within the EU it's not markedly more expensive than moving to a new city within your home country). I think most of the jobs I'm interested in will have me go abroad again... 👀

- I've been exploring and adventuring so much in general during my time here!!

- All my fears about not being able to make it living on my own (incl. being scared of not knowing how to cook) were unfounded. I hated kai return in legacies it was just awful how stupid they continue to write his character it doesn't help I could care less about him being around his nieces or alaric

They really did ruin try to his character. I also don't care about Alaric or his nieces; I certainly don't care about watching them water down Kai to be an acceptable villain for Legacies' standards. In TVD, they had no problem making these dangerous and scary villains that viewers actually feared (i.e. s1 Damon, Klaus, Silas, etc.), and even if the villains mellowed out over time, their introductions were still frightening. Kai trying to kill Damon the first moment we saw him was a shock to the audience. The reveal that he was the perpetrator in the newspaper added to his villainization, as did the baseball bat scene in 6x8, where we see him actually hunting his siblings. Throughout the season, even though he mellows out a bit, he comes back full force when Bonnie betrays him, and raises hell even after he's killed (via the heretics). But in Legacies, the villains aren't like that. I watched two seasons of it, and the antagonists aren't scary like they were in TVD and TO. It looks like a show made for kids, for whatever reason, and when they brought back Kai, they had to make him acceptable for kids to watch. Kai would 100% still want to kill his nieces, had he been in machete-distance of them like he was. They're only getting older, and he's only growing more restless in the prison world. But they didn't want him to be too violent, so they erased that storyline. They also made him much weaker, a lot less intelligent, and rather quirky. He became almost unrecognizable to the villain we saw in TVD, who was funny, but still very capable of causing panic, but in Legacies, became goofy and easy to defeat.

If they were devoted to keeping him as a fear-worthy villain (since they refused to give him a redemption arc in s6 and again in s8), I might not've hated his return so much. But I agree, if he's just going to mosey around and make jokes until Hope devises a plan to get another notch in her belt, I don't care about him interacting with his nieces either. It would've maybe been fun to see him interact with his nieces if the writing was better. Josie and Lizzie are both so much like Kai without either of them noticing it. It would've been great to see Alaric having to come to terms with that. But Legacies wouldn't have wanted to put in the effort in exploring this, plus it would be too dark for their audience. (The Gemini storyline in general is a rather dark plot; I'm surprised they address it at all.) They certainly wanted Josie like Jo, and Lizzie like Caroline, and although they gave them both qualities very alike to Kai, the showrunners seemed to ignore it entirely. [And, this of course, is a whole different discussion I have, about how TVDU likes to ignore the topic of mental health.] Regardless, I think it would have been cool to see Kai meet the twins. Would he remain a villain with them (is he still crazy Uncle Kai who tried to kill them twice?), or could the show have taken a different route with him (he's crazy and Ric hates him, but he's their only coven family left and the twins can't help but see similarities with him)? But instead, they did what they did with Kai - threw away his motive, made him weak and unintelligent, and let the Hope and Alaric show destroy one of the best villains that TVD had. It's honestly difficult for me to believe that the same person crafted these shows.

I mean—your milage may vary, but when I woke up this morning my skin was a little plumper and more hydrated than usual (which is what I buy the masks for!) so, sure! BUT!!! It’s a pricey mask ($29 AUD), so I only buy them occasionally, for a little pampering (or to pregame an event!)! I really like sheet masks in general because they make a mundane routine (cleaning your face) more fun, but most of the time I buy Korean ones, which are way cheaper and just as (if not more!) effective! My skin concerns might be different to yours, but I buy masks to address one of several problems:

1. I’m having a breakout, and need my skin to calm the fuck down (teatree, generally, something that feels antiseptic)

2. I’m having a reaction, and need my skin to calm the fuck down (ingredients that will soothe it, cool down the redness!)

3. I’m tired and feel dry (so, something that feels nourishing or at least gives me an excuse to go lie down in a dark room and pretend I’m in a coffin for 15 minutes)

I don’t worry about anti-aging promises, or anything like that—sunscreen is the only thing I use that might even address that, and even then that’s less “anti-aging” and more “holy shit I don’t want the face doctor to dig cancer spots out of my face” LOL. As a whole I hate the whole, “omg you HAVE to prevent any visible signs of aging!!! don’t smile, don’t frown, don’t use your skin!!!” rhetoric that skincare and beauty in general markets itself off of. Fear mongering!!! A few lines and squiggles and saggy bits and pocks and divets make us interesting and human and idk—we’re lucky we get to age. 🥺

I use eye patches mostly for psychological reasons lmfao—like when I’ve been staring at a screen for too hard and too long. I have deep-set eye bags that aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, so I don’t bother with anything that claims much more than just “it’ll feel nice for a few minutes” lmaooo. The Patchology Rosé ones were a impulse buy, but they were fun!

After I saw your ask, though, I went and rummaged around in my drawers—I’m going to stay clear of anything too skincare-y, because YMMV, and I won’t include perfumes for the same reason, but after some thought, here’s my current faves:

I actually have a complimentary service at Mecca Cosmetica that I need to use—I normally just let them slide away bc I like doing my own makeup LOL, but the girl serving me in-store on Friday was like, “nooo, you should use it! We can play with the Shiseido stuff!” so I was like okeee LOL fml im so easily led it’s not funny 😭)

7. Tatcha The Silk Canvas Primer (it’s novel to play with lmaooo, but it does a decent job! I like how it smells! I originally wanted the ELF putty—but every Kmart I went to was sold out, and a friend was like, oh, that’s a dupe for the Tatcha one so I was like, oke, lmaooo)

8. Caudalíe Grape Water Face Mist (Caudalíe is fun and I love the scent, but be wary of overpaying for it lmfao. I think people see French brands and are like ooooo, so fancy, but it’s basically a pharmacy brand! A great one, don’t get me wrong, but if you’re buying it for like three times the price then just—don’t, LOL. I bought the Grape Water on impulse from Sephora, because I needed a new face spray—but tbh unless you’re like, in France for a bit and walk past a store or a Citypharma then there are other, more easily accessible brands!!! Saying that, I live by their hand cream—it smells like sherbet and it’s such a delight to put on!! i like to give myself lil hand massages when I use it and i’m almost out and im going to be DEVASTATED when it’s gone. 🥹)

I haven’t listed any eye-products because I’m trying to find a mascara that doesn’t try to murder me while driving by stinging my eyes and smearing everywhere and then making the stinging worse which makes me tear up while I’m flying down the goddamn highway—but eyeshadow wise, I only have a couple of palettes, and a few single-pan shades! I have a Pat McGrath Mothership palette (Mothership II, sublime), which is my absolute favourite. And a Chanel quad, which is nice and portable! And then I impulse bought the Huda Rose Quartz palette last year, literally days before I sprained my ankle and ruined my life. I haven’t had much of a chance to wear it since! The colours are very dreamy—shimmery lavenders and pinks and I like the romance of the idea of wearing them, but—oh my God I just gave myself an idea for something. Maybe an anime boyfriend smearing our shimmery eyeshadow with his thumb??? hmmm hmm.
