why did you choose your url?

this...was supposed to be a short explanation but it turned into quite a tale so strap in i guess because we are going on a ride. back in 2017 i was just getting into musical theatre rp and i was still feeling too shy to really talk to anyone ooc so i would just wait for people i wanted to interact with to post starter calls so i could just do things in character with them the easy way. So i did this with my friend cam, who posted a starter for me using a lyric from If I Could Tell Her. she linked the song so i could listen to it, so i did and i went ‘wait a minute, is that Ben Platt from Pitch Perfect?? (and other things too, but i only recognized his voice at the time bc of the acappella girl movies)’ and yes it certainly was.

i had zero idea what the plot of Dear Evan Hansen was about at that point, and for some reason based off Just That One Song and the poster art of who i assumed was Some Guy in a Polo Shirt i started to think it was about some jock guy who broke his arm and had an emo/goth friend who had either died or gone missing under mysterious circumstances. also i intuited that Evan had a crush on his friend’s sister but he couldn’t tell her that directly or his emo friend would kick his ass. so i was like mostly wrong, but a little bit right.

oh and i knew jared and alana were characters from the show bc cam said that they were i think?? but i had no idea what their role was. so after listening to if i could tell her, i listened to good for you and all i really got out of that was that evan the apparently not-jock guy had done...something... that really hurt jared and alana. and at that point i finally decided to go look up a plot synopsis and i found out i was waaay off base. but honestly this is why cast recordings should include scene dialogue in the songs bc otherwise you just get soundtracks like dear evan hansen where the songs have like. zero context. we really just go from waving through a window to for forever to sincerely me without like. any reason as to what is happening huh. It’s honestly not a surprise anymore that all those people on twitter had no idea the plot isn’t about gay teenagers.

anyways. cam was writing jared and she made a post at one point about wishing somebody would write alana and i was like ‘oh i could do that!’ (after i had actually Seen a bootleg and finally knew what the whole story was, of course) so i made a multimuse rp blog featuring alana beck, nabulungi hatimbi, chloe valentine and some other characters, and cam started sharing her headcanons with me that alana is trans, jared and alana were close friends when they were little kids but they sort of drifted apart as they got older and their priorities in life changed, jared was the first person alana came out to when she realized she’s trans, etc.

one night i started talking about wanting to pick a more theatre-relevant url for my blog and trans-[character name] urls were getting pretty popular, and at least 3 of the friends i made through rp had changed theirs to coordinating trans-[character name] and i think it was cam suggested i should make mine be trans-alana so i did. eventually i realized the unhyphenated version was available so i changed it to transalana with no hyphen and i have lived here ever since. sometimes i think about changing it but i feel like transalana has become a part of My Brand and i am not so great with coming up with cool names for things.

in theory, i have sideblogs... i don’t really use them, but of the ones i do have, there is:

emsbookblog - this was supposed to be where i would post excerpts of the book that i’m working on, but i think i did that maybe one time roughly 2 years ago and then promptly forgot about it/got nervous about my writing and was scared to share anything else. the rest of the stuff that is there is assorted writing tips. i don’t really know what to do with it now. i probably should post all my little thoughts about em and anita and caleb there instead of infodumping on my main from time to time, but if i do that then i have to promo a sideblog and direct people over to it which is always annoying to me when i could just do it on this blog which is much easier

dearnovelhansen - this is basically no longer used, but was a sideblog i made specifically to talk/complain about the novel adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen which was about 3 years ago?? maybe? i can’t be trusted to understand the passage of time. but to summarize: i thought it was an honor just to have the story be made more accessible since many of us couldn’t see the stage performance, but i hated a lot of the creative liberties that were taken. my main grumbles are that everyone who isn’t evan or connor is done so dirty in the novel. connor’s still kind of done dirty in the book, but not as much as like. heidi, alana, jared, and zoe are.

horseisle3 - this one was meant to be a place where i could just enthusiastically post screenshots from hi3, but instead it turned into a blog where i occasionally reblog other players’ hi3 content and bitch about how bad the game admins are bc hi3 is the tumblr famous (infamous?) homophobic horse game. the game where it was once okay to call your club store the gulag bc according to their head of hr, ‘it’s just a russian word for prison’ but you can’t say ‘im gay’ without somebody accusing you of corrupting young children who play the game. unfortunately there aren’t very many good interactive horse games out there, so this one is still about as good as it gets. it’s either that or star stable and i don’t care about star stable.

mlaenie - i’ve had this url saved for i don’t even know how long. way way way back in the day when i wanted to escape from the clutches of the onceler fandom i abandoned my first blog where i basically had an alter ego i guess?? and i decided to just be myself on the new blog. i don’t fully remember who came up with it, but one of my sister’s mutuals suggested that if you scrambled the letters in your name you could come up with aesthetic-looking urls. so lauren’s url became lrauen, and to match with her mine became mlaenie, which i abandoned on tumblr after about a year or so? but have continued to use as my main username on twitter, reddit, youtube, xbox, steam, and discord. i barely ever use any of these accounts aside from twitter, steam, and xbox, but yeah. so i’ve decided to try and turn this empty sideblog into a place for video game thoughts maybe. we’ll see how long it lasts this time around.

how long have you been on tumblr?

i made my first tumblr account in december of 2010, but i didn’t understand how to use it at all or how to customize my theme to look cool and unique so i quickly abandoned it. i made a new account in september of 2011 after some kids at school and my sister told me i should and i have been trapped here with varying degrees of activity/inactivity ever since. i have witnessed the rise and fall of the lorax/onceler fandom, hyperfocused on lord of the rings, star wars and back to the future all at the same time, and for the past 4 years i’ve mostly been a musical theatre blog with assorted other fandom stuff mixed in. i feel i have seen everything and nothing, but mostly i’m just tired and bored.

do you have a queue tag?

no bc i don’t use a queue. i’ve tried using it in the past but i irrationally feel pressured to sustain a coherent theme to queued posts and my brain simply does not vibe with that so i just don’t use it at all anymore. Instead i instantly reblog or post several unrelated thoughts in succession and then don’t post again at all for 3 days. the way god intended

why did you start your blog in the first place?

my very first blog was intended to be a place for me to post all of my petz 5 animals’ profile info, but i didn’t have any understanding of how coding worked at all and i don’t think i really wanted to learn, either. so it just sat there, unused. my second attempt at blogging was as a classic rock fandom person, so as you can probably imagine i was pretty pretentious about ‘modern pop’ vs the beatles, the rolling stones, the who, the monkees, and so on. and then i slowly devolved into a lorax fandom blog and everything went to shit so i made a new blog for lord of the rings/the hobbit which later evolved to include star wars and back to the future blogging. and then for the past 4 years i’ve been mainly a musical theatre blog with other random stuff i like thrown haphazardly into the pot. wonderful.

why did you choose your icon/pfp?

because my url is transalana and two of my most prominent lgbt headcanons are that alana beck is trans and a lesbian. i gotta be shouting out @kinqmike though bc she’s the one i adopted the trans alana beck headcanon from in the first place!

why did you choose your header?

in 2017 i was hyperfixating on Dear Evan Hansen (and Be More Chill, but there weren’t many gif-able videos then considering it ran for a month in New Jersey in 2015 and there was only one yet-to-resurface 35 minute bootleg) so i just grabbed a random gif off of google. i really should get to replacing it with a new header of my own though. i just don’t know what i should do for it.

what’s your post with the most notes?

i have lost track of how many notes it has (i think it’s somewhere around 200 now?) but when Will Roland and George Salazar performed Two Player Game on Good Morning America, i posted a screencap of their Jeremy and Michael along with that one quiz answer meme that says stuff like ‘i want to see it grow up healthy’. i didn’t tag it with any ship names or anything because i was anxious about having it show up in the tags, but somebody who reblogged it from me did tag it as boyf riends and i firmly believe it took off because of that. i don’t think i make posts that are relevant enough to amass thousands of notes, even by accident. which is probably a good thing bc if i did i would have to block so many of them.

on this blog? 175 according to the counter. how many of those are still real people and how many are bots and abandoned accounts? i have no idea.

i try to keep it somewhere around 200. i think i’m sitting at 180 right now but i kind of need to go through and clear out the really inactive blogs.

that stuff makes me so incredibly anxious that i have to fight the urge to want to yeet my laptop or mobile device through the closest window whenever i read it, so i try very hard to avoid any sort of ‘if you don’t reblog this, i’m judging you’ posts. i find them very manipulative and not particularly helpful

in any sort of romantic connotation? no. not that i’m aware of. there are mutuals that i have friend crushes on where i want to be friends with them but i get so anxious when it comes to meeting new people that usually nothing ever comes of it. i’m really not good at small talk or other casual conversation either which, as you may or may not be able to imagine, sucks. i just wanna skip over all of the awkward introductions and ‘hey how are you, how is life, what are you doing with yourself?’ stuff. not because i don’t care about it. i do, but i think most of my friends/the people i want to be my friends are also depressed and anxious so asking these basic questions about life tends to uh. make us all nervous. and i don’t do much with my life so i always have the most boring answers anyways.

say hello to my (revamped) little friend :)))))

lea michele has been my idol and source of inspiration ever since i was 11 years-old. i looked up to her and loved her and supported her. i met my two closest friends because of glee and lea. she’s the reason i got into glee, and glee is the reason why i decided to join roleplay years ago. i owe so much to lea. that being said, i do not support, condone or accept her alleged behavior. i knew about her being self-centered and difficult to work with, but i never thought i would log online some night searching for instagram photos for sandrine and find out all of that. i was reading the twitter thread all night long and watching a decade of my life disappear before my eyes. i know my feelings are worth nothing and are completely irrelevant & meaningless compared to the gravity of the situation that brought out all of these allegations. i also want to point out this is not a representation of mine or sandrine’s views on racism, bullying, performance activism or politics.

one of the first things that came to mine was sandrine and this group. i never bragged about being original, so it should come as no surprise that sandrine took a lot of characteristics from lea. her bubbly and lively personality, the tiny but mighty energy, the italian family background, the singing part, the cooking, the love of beauty, everything from her looks to her voice, it screams lea michele when i think about sandrine. changing her faceclaim was not an easy thing to do, because it implies changing this character i cherish with all of my heart. anyway, here’s a list of things that will change about sandrine from now on / things that will stay the same.

changes:

the faceclaim. lea is sephardi jewish (of turkish and greek descent) as well as italian. try and match that, it’s hard. plus, finding someone who is as expressive and joyful as sandrine is difficult too. i decide to use demet özdemir (who’s of turkish, bulgarian and german descent from what i read). compared to lea, i don’t know anything about her whatsoever. i lurked through gif tags and photos and she seems promising. if i don’t feel good using her, i will change to leighton meester and review, once again, the family background. (shoutout to lina for helping me, a true life saver!!!! <3)

alessandra “sandrine” serafina hébert. her last name changes. it is no longer lombardi, but hébert. (pronounced eh-bert in english, or hey-ber in french because the t is silent, i did some genalogy research and the surname hébert was, in some parts of the province, adapted from german so it fits with demet).

her age. sandrine is 30 turning 31 in september instead of 33 going 34.

her parents’ name. i will not redo the whole family post i did ages ago, but they all get a change of name and history. adamo is now only adam, and he’s 33 instead of 35. christian hébert is her father and monica evans is the mother. corinna remains corinna. christian’s father’s last name was actually esmer, but he changed to hébert when he moved in order to try and fit in the community.  the whole italian family storyline goes in the garbage bin, but since, historically speaking, traditional quebecer values are not that different from family, food and making babies, i’m good with that! i am absolutely not familiar with turkish and canadian history & relations so i have a lot of research to do there just to feel comfortable with this. i knew more about italo-québécois from school and from writing a paper about this community, hence why i felt no discomfort using cultural and historical aspects in sandrine’s story. montréal has the second largest turkish community of canada from stats i found, so, still, it’s not completely off either.

her career in ice skating / the reason she quit. sandrine will still be a successful figure skater who was amongst the best of her province, but i’ll twist things up. i won’t have her quit at 18, rather at 20. because (drum roll) i will give her a love interest. she started doing couple figure skating competitions at 17 and fell in love with her partner. they dated for three years, that innocent first relationship kind of love and he broke-up because he felt like he was too young to commit. hence why she still believes no one will ever love her as much as she loves them.

her timeline will go like this: at 20 she quit ice skating and dropped out of university. from 20 to 24 she stayed at home in montréal with her parents. from 24 to 26, she was roommates with adam in boston. and from 26 to now, 30 going 31, she is living on her own, running her salon in devinstone.

what stays the same:

lea’s voice is sandrine’s voice. when i write dialogues (which means 99% of all of my replies bc i can’t write), i hear lea’s voice. sandrine’ voice and singing voice will remain lea’s. that is unfortunately something i can’t let go of. 

she’s still lea’s height even if demet is 5″7.

she still has 2 of lea’s tattoos: the coffee mug and the musical notes.

she’s still a beautician. that does not change one bit! she still loves cooking. she still loves being annoying.

i will not delete any posts from before. i have so many faceclaim posts and instagram photos queued that some might slip away but those, i will delete them if i notice they get posted on accident. my queue has over 40 posts so it glitches and doesn’t always show me what’s in there.

As for generalhouse cleaning I see both, they’re both busy and they know it’ll get donequicker if they work together. Since France always cooks though, Arthur alwayscleans up the kitchen.

Oh boy this isone thing they fight about a lot, England always wants to watch BBC dramas andFrance always wants to watch French art house films (and never with captions,the horror). It usually ends withtaking turns.

England, theirlandlord is kind of stubborn and he has absolutely no qualms about beingaggressive and calling every hour until the heat gets fixed.

Both, thefights they’ve had at 2am over blankets could rival any war they’ve fought in. They’vehonestly thought about just buying two sets of sheets for the bed.

Both, Francehas a tendency to just throw clothes around when deciding what to wear, andEngland tends to leave paperwork and his craft supplies scattered around theirplace (France has stepped on many a stray sewing needle and is. England also strikes me as theperson who never can find his keys, wallet, or phone, and France just stands sighingthere while England cuts around like mad until France tells him exactly wherehe put all of it.

Neither, theygo food shopping together (England insists on him just going since France doesall the cooking but France 100% does not trust England to grab the right thingsfor him so they both just end up going even if it’s a little hard to navigatewith their busy schedules) and literally both of them forget every time. LikeFrance even always writes out food shopping lists of everything they need butstill forgets until they’re like on their front doorstep it hits them that theyforgot it.

Who remembers anniversaries:

I can seeeither or. Like they both live such busy lives that neither of them get angry overit if the other forgets. France usually remembers naturally but England alwaysmakes sure he marks it on a calendar or something to remind himself, sometimesworks, sometimes not. Really they only celebrate their anniversary every yearafter, say, their ten year benchmark because France is a die-hard romantic andEngland knows it makes France happy.

How often do they fight?

Bicker?Literally all the time, it’s usually about the little stuff. But like full-onfights? I feel like there was probably a lot of that in the beginning of theirrelationship bc lets be real these two have some major baggage to sort out butas their relationship progresses I think after they’ve gone through it allso it’s really not often. I feel like France would be really pragmatic aboutworking shit out in their relationship.

Seeing as how they’rejobs keep them in different countries a lot I imagine there’s a lot ofphone-calling (France insists on calling every night, and England says itstotally unnecessary but deep down doesn’t think he could fall asleep if theydon’t talk at least once a day) and once Skype becomes a thing, the distanceisn’t nearly as painful since they do at least get to see each other. They’re also both thankful that they’re stillrelatively close since they’re usually just a train ride away.

Nicknames for each other?

Nothingspecial. Darling, mon cher, love, etc. They use the really sappy and ridiculousones sarcastically when they’re mad at each other tho (cuddle muffin, babycakes, etc.)

Who is more likely to pay for dinner?

England, Francewill always insist but England always is able to distract him and take care ofthe check before France even notices.

What would they get each other for gifts?

I am completelyconvinced France would get England flowers like all the time, but besides thatI can see them as the kind of people would surprise the other with little giftsthat just reminded them of the other. One time though England bought France amug in the shape of a frog and in return France bought England a “magic tricksfor children” set.

Who made the first move?/ Who started the relationship?

I think Englanddid, I know it’s kind of cheesy but I like to imagine that they were in themiddle of a huge argument and a “Because I love you, you idiot!” slipped outand cue them being together ever since. They just don’t strike me a couple thatcould get together any other way seeing as how they’ve known each other for solong and France is usually so flirtatious in general that if he tried to startanything, England would just write off as him being his usual thing.

France, definitely, after Arthurtold him he loved him he just went for it

Who remembers things?

Neither,they’re a mess tbh. Both will remember something at the last minute and justcue the mayhem that ensues.

ARTHUR! 100%!The guy has the vocabulary of a sailor (yes that is 100% a pirate!England joke).Though France definitely has been known to mutter a few swears under hisbreath, mostly during particularly annoying world meetings… 

What would they do if the other was hurt?

I’m not sure ifthis means in like a physical or emotional way. As for physical, like I’m surethey’re both pretty well versed in first-aid at this point after so many warsso there’s that. If it was serious I feel like they’d be the couple that getsangry at the other for letting themselves get hurt then just dissolve into apuddle of tears.  And emotionally, teaand blankets can solve almost any problem.

“The Seasons of Your Love.”

It started before winter, when the world was turning cold and the trees were shrivelling in on themselves, retreating into their safehaven of peace and seclusion. I did not know it then, but as time went on I would learn to love you almost as much as I loved dying.

I will not lie, I had no idea of what was coming. When we first met the thought that I would love you did not even cross my mind. It was not until months later when the sudden realisation hit me; I was looking at you one second, and in the next you took my hand and we danced and it felt like I was flying.

I would love to say that our love begun in the golden glows of summer, where we accidentally ran into each other in the ice cream parlour and we talked for longer than ‘just friend’s’ would. But I cannot, because that isn't what happened. My love for you was not muddled with the warm connotations of the summer breeze, but rather it was entwined with the biting cold of winter. It consisted of late nights and school hoodies, of my hands being too numb to feel yours in mine, of our bodies huddled over the table in the dark, me wrapped in my blanket, you shivering assuring me you were fine as you tried to explain Chemistry to me. Ironic, I know.

You see, love knows no season.

My heart did not wait until 4th term to realise it’s feelings for you, but rather it realised it during the darkness and coldness of 3rd. Love cannot be rationalised. It is never simple nor reasonable, nor understandable. It is a mixture of confusion and chaos, keeping you up in the dead of night picturing his face in the torch light of your phone and remembering how perfect he looked. It is stuttering and being at a loss of words when he passes a comment your way when you pass each other on the stairs of the science block. It’s the way his laugh keeps you up at night and the way your whole body tenses at the presence of him. Not because you are scared of him, but because you are scared of this feeling and scared of not being everything he wants you to be; you are scared of not being good enough. 

You see, my dear, love is not always a two way street and sometimes it is all just in your head. Though your heart flutters at his touch and his presence simultaneously reminds you to breathe as well as takes your breath away, the thing you have to remember is that he may not feel the same way as you do.

“Confessions of a Lovestruck Teenager.”

1. You never see it coming, like, ever. I know they always talk about how the sudden realisation hits you and you never believe them, you just roll eyes and sigh and question why you’re watching yet another rom-com that’ll just leave you feeling depressed and lonely, but the truth is, they’re right. You do not see it coming. One minute you’re laughing at the terrible pun he made about your terrible dancing, and the next you’re fantasising about him pulling you into one of those dips and kissing you in the middle of the dance floor. Okay, so it’s a bit dramatic, but what do you expect, I’ve gained all my experience by living vicariously through fictional characters. Anyways, as I was saying, it really does hit you like a freaking bucket of ice water. There are no signs, no warnings, just one big ‘oh crap’ moment and that’s it, you are completely screwed, standing there drenched in the cold, harsh truth that you do, after all, have a heart. Queue montage of hopelessly daydreaming in class and reliving every single touch and conversation…Yeah, have fun with that. 

2. Activate jealous girlfriend mode. I’m serious, I know you may believe you’re not the jealous type, but trust me, you’re gonna find yourself up at 2am stalking his Facebook and every girl that is in any photo or post with him. And with each girl, you’ll come up with more and more extravagant stories of how he is in love with her. Trust me, anyone who claims that they’re not that imaginative are either lying or clearly have never had a crush. Oh, and also, any girl you see him even look at, yeah, there’ll be a story for her too. I hope you have good impulse control…

3. He’s cute. In fact, to be honest, I think it should be illegal to be this freaking cute. I mean, it definitely poses a threat to my well being - just ask my teachers and friends, who are getting real fed up with my daydreaming. Also, I completely forget to function around him, so you can imagine the bruises I've gotten from tripping, falling, etc. See, it really is not safe to society to be this freaking cute. So please, stop. Kind regards, a hopeless romantic. Hopeless being the keyword here...

4. Playlists, playlists, and more playlists. Your phone is just going to be one big ol’ mess of music that you can listen to and think about him to. You’ll probably also come up with some super cheesy name for it, like “I’m falling for your eyes” or “Him”. Ed Sheeran is seriously going to be your best friend. Hey, at least you probably already know the lyrics to all the songs.
