I feel like the way some of the fandom treats Jon is unfair and tbh borderline ableist. It's not his fault that he got hooked on statements by Elias/Jonah, it's very clear that he was being manipulated into it from the beginning. And even once he starts having to take live statements, he doesn't want to have to! He canonically hates that he has to do that to people for sustenance, but that compulsion isn't within his control.

Like c'mon. It's very heavily implied that he becomes genuinely suicidal because of his self-loathing around this, and how the other people around him are treating him like a monster and demanding he "just control" something that he isn't actually able to. Which isn't to say that Basira/Melanie/Georgie/s5!Martin etc. don't have the right to feel that way/that their responses aren't understandable, but they still aren't fair to Jon.

Jon's existence such as it is might not be fair, because his presence does harm others unintentionally. But sometimes that's how things are, and it's equally if not more unfair for the others to act like he's just a monster who should be put down and is selfish for continuing to want to live and be healthy.

Honestly, it sort of feels like some of the fandom has ignored/forgotten that the situation Jon is in isn't unique to a horror story, and in fact has many parallels in real life (whether that be addiction, mental disorder/disability, trauma, etc.) and that to take the view of "well he should've just Not Done That Stuff, skill issue, anyways you can't blame the others for how they treated him" is not exactly going to make actual people who are/have been in situations like that feel welcome in fandom spaces.

I personally don’t agree with the universal opinion that a part of the fandom seem to have is that Darry and Soda would despise Curly because of the way that he is, and doesn’t ever want them around Ponyboy because he is a bad influence.

While I do agree with a part of it, I think Darry and Sodapop don’t agree with the lifestyle that Curly has going on, but understand his predicament and situation and the reason he is the way that he is, as well as they wouldn’t prefer Ponyboy to hang around Curly because of the messes they could get into that could cause consequences to their actions, e.g the state taking him away because of their negligence and such.

Along with my Arab American headcanon, as Hospitality is a part of their culture, and respect is always forefront to make their guests feel comfortable and welcomed around their presence, they would still look out for Curly, even if he does insist that he doesn’t need anybody to look out for him because he could handle himself. And while still being around the same age as Ponyboy, they don’t really believe that, so if it was needed, (like patching up injuries and PB wasn’t around,) they’d be more than happy to take care of him if he was ever in trouble.

While Curly still does act the way that he does around the Curtis gang, I think he would grow on them, and vice versa.

While Darry is overprotective and such, he does not have any ill will over anybody, especially a teenager because I don’t think a grown man needs to have beef with a teenager, but he’s not overly affectionate towards Curly either LOL

I do think Darry and Tim have a silent oath of some sort to look after each others family whenever it is necessary, while it is not explicitly said between the two, they both know the similar situations they’re in, and to make it easier it would be good if they both were to take care of one another.

On a less serious note, for my Arab Curtis Hcs, I think whenever there would be guests visiting their homes, (minus the gang,) Darry is keen about body language in order to show respect for that guest, (e.g, putting hands in pockets, leaning on walls, etc.) in which Ponyboy and Sodapop do forget sometimes because they don’t often have many people come over, but they do their best to show off respect.

Heya! Since the 7th comic has been confirmed, Id like to ask you 2 things. What do you want out of the finale? And since I've seen you have issues with the comics sometimes, what would you do differently?

I think I'll answer these in reverse order, it's been a weird path of at first finding them super funny if somewhat dated to being more... ehhh... on them.

I think the main problem is that they suffer from being mean-spirited. Like, looking at other TF2 media and the games, you get the feeling of these goofy characters inhabiting a somewhat serious world. These guys are losers, but you root for them, and it feels good to see them win.

In the comics Soldier is just stupid. Demoman is just sort of incompetent. Even Heavy's serious moments get sort of diluted by the absurdist humour rather than complemented I find. The TFCs are all sadists or pedophiles unless it's Fred being bumbling and hapless. Engie, Admin and Gray all sort of exist to make the plot go forwards and don't have much in the way of character arcs or shifts in dynamics.

Actually... idk if any of them have much in the way of character arcs. The world they inhabit not only doesnt take itself seriously but every potential development has to be lampshaded by having something ridiculous happen right after. It's cynical.

Like I think more and more the whole writing philosophy underpinning it just doesn't vibe with me, and it's not even like longing for it to be Everything or a super lore-heavy intellectual endeavour but looking at the whole even when I enjoyed some of the parts I don't feel like there's enough binding threads to be attached to the plot or feel that intrigued by the story being told and where it's heading. Or even just to be so in love with the character portrayals as to want to see where they end up.

it's hard to want anything at this point or even feel particularly excited. Part of it is like. I think the way people approach media and canon as an irrefutable lore that cannot be challenged is dumb and the fact that this thing is as hyped up as much as it is means whatever happens, folks are probably gonna love it, hate it and henceforth build their own ideas around it - even by subverting it. You know, I can see why sometimes people think callouts are necessary;

When you are in a communal space and being harmed, or have suddenly become privy to serious harm, you want that harm to stop. One of the first things you learn on how to do that, once asking them to stop doesnt work, is to ask for help.

In small communities like forums or discord servers, you ask the community leaders for help. They talk to the person to make them stop or ban them from the small, non life-essential community. If the harm was bad enough they might encourage you to bring it to court (such as an adult soliciting nudes from minors in DMs).

Often this is done without the details being aired to the rest of the community (if the issue was in private).

But bigger websites like tumblr or twitter or youtube are not these kinds of small communities. Banning someone from a huge swath of the internet materially effects their livelyhood and ability to access community and care. The support staff for these websites usually take time to get to the case and often do nothing about it when they do because its not what they consider a TOS violation, even if its harm done.

This means if it cannot be solved by blocking, and you cannot leave because the space has things you need, your final tool to make harm stop is by airing the dirty laundry so social shame hopefully does something.

HOWEVER THE VAST MAJORITY CALLOUTS ARE NOT LIKE THIS

Most callouts are petty drivel attacking minorities (but especially trans women in particular) and filled with lies.

The person making the callout though, often genuinely believes that they are making harm stop like above though- because their definition of harm is much wider and includes things like 'trans woman having sex with consenting adults in a way I dont like', 'I was in conflict with my ex a lot because we could not communicate', and 'reblogged a fanart shipping naruto and sasuke once'.

They think that things that personally upset them out of disgust count as real harm. They think any conflict is always abuse.

Or at least, that is what the people making them will claim, and its hard to sort them from the true victims.

I think a notable part of why callouts are such a plague is because of the structure of social media as a whole. We dont HAVE the usual tools to curate our spaces well enough anymore and protect our communities from bad actors and people know this. Its the drawback of being so connected. They cannot see another way to do this, so they are loathe to let go of a tool that -in theory- can.

I think its something that is overlooked in conversations about this.

Its rare a plea to abandon callouts altogether has a feasable answer for 'what do we do with the confirmed serial abusers, scammers, and cult leaders that DO exist? How do we prevent them from hurting more people? They already had community support and love and they did harm with it. You cannot give them a rape babysitter a la the missing stair essay (of which the story shows works badly) over the internet. You cannot make them go to therapy over the internet and ensure it works. You cannot still act like nothing happened without making their victims feel unsafe and unsupported. What is there left to do?'

And honestly, I DONT have a good answer to assuage these concerns.

With new social media the way it is, with site moderators that only step in for TOS violations if that, how CAN we keep known serial bad actors with no true commitment to doing better from harming others except by warning people to not trust them?

Internet safety tip PSAs only do so much, and not using the megasites is not an option for most people either.

Trying to make callout posts be more accurate by trying to educate what is a calloutable offense has done nothing to reduce erroneous callouts.

People already commit to 'only spreading REAL callout posts', but they still spread bunk posts regardless.

It just... sucks all around.

That Would Be Beautiful

Foreword: SO! This is a Tangled one shot, its a very small part of this Tangled AU that I've had a lot of ideas and concepts and plot stuff accumulated in my notes app and in my sketchbooks for. I've been calling it "Rapunzel: Year One" for fun (I might just keep calling it that for now), since it's supposed to chronicle Rapunzel's first year out of the Tower, navigating her new responsibilities, her new relationships, and what she wants out of life.

This scene is of Rapunzel trying to learn more about Gothel, what she did when she wasn't at the tower, what her life was like. The idea is that Rapunzel's trying to find some way to prove to herself that Gothel could be humanized, that she wasn't "all that bad" or that there was some sort of explanation for why Gothel treated Rapunzel the way she did.

It's very small, just 1k~ words, it's incomplete and there's more to the scene but I just needed to post something for now bc I think my blog has been a tad revealing about my tendency to abandon personal projects and just leave WIPs and never follow up on them and I just didn't want it to seem like I was doing that again

It felt ironic in a way that really depressed Rapunzel, how four weeks and a haircut ago, she had all the time in the world with nothing to really do. Now, there was so much that could be done, with what sometimes felt like no time at all.

This was one of those times. 

Rapunzel’s eyes spent more time looking at the clock on the castle library wall than at the page of her chemistry book. Now time was spilling away quick, and any moment now, the pleasant click clack of Lady Desdemona’s pompadour heels would reverberate off the library walls, a much appreciated warning to hide away her research before her tutor dragged her away to the next lesson.

Rapunzel knew Lady Desdemona probably wouldn’t think much of the stack of chemistry, engineering and geography books and loose folios sprawled about, all populated with equations and notes, as well as a few quick pencil sketches of imagined, cuddly moments between her and her beloved. Y'know, for emotional support.

At least, Rapunzel was sure the governess wouldn’t become privy on what Rapunzel had actually been at the library researching. 

It was weird to be so concerned about what the governess would think if she caught Rapunzel trying to teach herself how to find out how old a cloak was and where it's been, but Desdemona was so invested in Rapunzel’s business. Always asking her questions about what she was doing, and why she was doing it. Always taking a moment during lessons to ask if Rapunzel needed a break. Asking how she felt about a royal event when one was coming up. If it made her stressed, if she wanted to talk about it. Always analyzing her behavior like she was some doctor assigned to study Rapunzel’s mental health. Reporting every symptom, every weird quirk back to her parents. 

Rapunzel made a mental note to read up on Lady Desdemona, to see if she had any history in dealing with people's mental health (Rapunzel remembered reading that that specific profession had a name...psychiatry?). She guessed her parents were sensible to   hire a governess to tutor her in the ways of princesshood, who could also ensure Rapunzel was emotionally well-adjusted to her new life. 

She knew she should feel grateful. They’ve gone through the trouble of finding a teacher who could help Rapunzel properly find her footing. Sheknew it wasn’t fair to be frustrated.

It wouldn’t have made Rapunzel so uncomfortable if this process hadn’t been so revealing about what her parents truly thought of her: that she was a damaged girl who needed serious help.

Maybe I am. 

After 6 days of meticulous research in between Desdemona’s lessons, Rapunzel was feeling pretty confident in her ability to date the sediment she picked out of Gothel’s cloak. It alleviated the nagging apprehension and doubt that'd built up in her stomach to learn that humanity had discovered a way to find out the age of an object. Humans had the power to uncover the stories behind relics of eras so long ago and tell them to the world. It made her all cozy knowing that nothing could ever really be forgotten, because smart people were just that curious. That's amazing.

Mmph, delicious. Science is like food for the mind.

Well, technically that's fish. Also eggs.

Rapunzel just needed a proportional counter to count the carbon, as well an actual microscope to spot any pollen or exotic soils that might trace to any regions beyond Corona's borders. She was lucky to even manage the delicate process of plucking sediment from the cloak’s wool with her old magnifying glass. A gift for her eleventh birthday, a relic from a phase when she took deep interest in the insects that’d cluster at the banisters that stretched from wall to wall high above the tower’s floor. 

One of the few things she took with her before leaving that life behind.

At this point, there was nothing more Rapunzel needed to know to enact her experiment. But she didn't own the proper equipment to enact it. Rapunzel didn't even think about how she'd access that type of equipment. She hasn't met any scientists or engineers yet. 

Where do scientists live? There's gotta be, like, a big fancy lab where they work somewhere in the city, right? She'd ask someone, but she wasn't ready for any follow up questions they might ask. 

She knew it'd be so much easier to just ask her parents for the equipment, but what if they were curious about her activity? 

Rapunzel was just too paranoid about anyone finding out about the cloak. 

She was on her own. 

Suddenly Rapunzel noticed how her finger was seemingly stuck running itself in a lulling circle over the leathery skin of the chemistry book's cover. Tough, coarse, yet so lulling, like the palms of Eugene's hands. It soothed away all the pollutant thoughts, leaving alone one singular thing she wondered about. 

It'd be so easy to close the book, lock the cloak away under her bed and take a nap on Eugene's chest. At this hour he was probably still sleeping. He wouldn't stir if she snuck into his room and plopped face down on his chest and get lost. Forget the cloak. Forget Desdemona. Forget her lessons. Forget being a princess. It sounds so easy. Easy and right. 

It made her weak just thinking about how easy it would be to have peace. 

But there was so much Rapunzel didn’t know, and she’s just so confused. The thrill mixed with dread at there being answers to where it all went wrong, answers she might never know if she didn’t search for them, was stinting her growth into her new life. It was getting in the way of her progress too much. 

If she could get a date from the dirt in that cloak, maybe trace a few places of origin, she could make a historical record of Gothel's earlier life. Before the tower. Find a trail and follow it back to its roots. What she'd lived through. Where she was from. 

Did she have family?

prefacing my reply by saying im not arguing against the point this anon made or trying to paint my responses linked as “correct” or anything, just giving my reasoning for stuff

i will say that these 2 situations are the ones that have exhausted me the most when it comes to topics on here, which does further my point about how i can be bitter when topics get more aggressive. im not sure if i should take this as an issue with myself, or whether to show that being nasty to myself and others in my inbox just helps nobody. lets go with both!

starting with example 1, i felt like i made it pretty clear that i had my own interpretation of the comment, i think i even said as much within my reply. i will admit though i dont really have any sort of fondness for kea and their previous sexualization of terra adopts did leave a bad taste in my mouth regarding them. regardless, i think the reason i gave og anon so much slack is because of the (in my opinion) unbalanced response to it in the first reply. i think that there should be some more disconnect when it comes to critiquing a person ideas as opposed to the person themselves; what i mean by that is you can say “that comment you made or that idea you hold is misogynistic” without making aggressive assumptions as the person replying did. i think that maybe it makes it my fault for not being clearer that assumptions like that arent welcome here, or maybe its more my fault for having a very specific expectation of how people should interact. either way

Another of my Tavs: Nathalia

Nathalia was raised by a human wizard and wood elf druid. They found her abandoned in the forest by her high elf parents.

Nathalia is a wild magic sorcerer, her own family didn't want her due to this but her adoptive family adored and spoiled her. They lived secluded from others.

When she met Lae'zel and Astarion she thought for other people weapons to the throat were some form of greeting. When Astarion seemed flirtatious she even wondered if it was a way of flirting. (Gale would quickly inform her it was not and educate her. She would spend a lot of time with gale and books trying to learn more about everyone else) Which would go a little something like Gale: "He was going to take your life" Nathalia: "Take my life? *Gasp* it was a marriage proposal?! Oh my goodness, Mother always told me I was pretty but I never imagined..." Gale: "No no, take your life as in kill you" Nathalia: "Aha, why would he do that? thats silly.." Gale: "...." Nathalia: "Oh... you are serious. Hm.. I suppose hes suitable.. what an interesting way to flirt do you think marriage is still on the table?" Gale: *Walks away* Nathalia: "Was it something I said?"

When she meets Karlach she pretty much adopts her as in is super affectionate wishing she could hug her and jumps at the chance to fix her heart wanting to be able to cuddle with her. Seeing her like a big bear. She has the same reaction to Halsin.

She loves braiding Lae'zel's hair for her, of course Lae'zel complains at first but eventually she gives in and lets her do it.

She sometimes frustrates Gale and Wyll with her innocence / obliviousness but she does slowly learn. Astarion himself takes to teaching her dangers of traps and people claiming it won't do any good if their leader ends up falling victim to either.

She slowly does genuinely fall for Astarion, sneaking peeks at him often, reading with him any chance she can get or discussing books with him. Watching the stars with him. At first he does it to try to seduce her but slowly realizes she genuinely enjoys spending time with him.

Astarion would so do subtle things like place his arm under her head so she can lay on it when they watch the stars, playing with her hair lazily.

When Astarion isn't helping her with braiding her hair I can see Lae'zel helping her comb it to "pay her back" for braiding Lae'zel's and would probably be very "Dont mention it or im stabbing you" over it. Astarion would probably help her put it up in a bun since its so extremely long, just so it wouldn't be used against her in combat. Making her look like a noble woman. He'd secretly be proud of his work.

When they get to the shadowlands Nathalia finds clues about her birth family there, when they arrives in baldurs gate she finds out her birth father is long since dead. Her birth mother remarried another noble lord and she has half siblings, ones her mother kept because they were "normal"

She tries to confront her blood mother but gets tossed out and yelled at. Her blood mother making it clear she doesn't want her in her life.

When Astarion ascends, Nathalia without any hesitation joins him as his spawn. She is happy to spend her life in his arms seeing it as her chance to have as loving as a relationship as her mother and father have. She even brings up adoption which Astarion is quick to shoot down telling her to wait (Eventually he'd sort of give in and they'd adopt a cat instead of a person to take care of. They'd also keep the owlbear and scratch their own little fur family)

Imma be honest with you, before BATDR came out, you literally held this fandom together with bandaids and stick glue. 2019-2022 was basically the dry age of Bendy content

i Do enjoy being in a fandom, i've always looked up to the danny phantom phandom a lot cause the vibes there are just fantastic, there's a lot of things going on, people have many interactions with each other, so i wanted to try to introduce that to the batim fandom and i'd like to think that i sorta did

i know that it is a popular opinion to not engage with a large portion of the fandom but instead just grab a few friends and sit in a corner with them but like

engaging with a bigger portion of the fandom every now and then can be SO fun and give people an opportunity to meet other people and idk

fandoms are communities of people just united by liking A Thing so it can be challenging to make a space for many people to get along but i dont recall any super serious only fandom related dramas in batim?? weirdos are in every fandom and you just blast their asses into oblivion with a block button

and there have been cases when i felt kinda bad for blocking someone because that meant i'd exclude them from something i wanted to think of as a fandom-wide event for everyone who would obey it's rules but that's where this outlook on curating your experience into a smaller circle is very much the way to go lol

aha yea 2019-2022 everything fucking DIED here but i was having a blast drawing my comic and also a lot of people who were into the sides of batim i was into mainly (the human characters) stayed around more than everyone else and it was really chill, i've met a lot of people and made many friendships :)

as the fandom was getting smaller there was a noticable drop in the amount of notes batim related posts were getting which is a very big symptom of a fandom dying but i think at some point it sorta stabilized who stayed there after batdr was delayed and delayed

i reblog and tag more than an usual tumblr user (when im active cuz sometimes i can not reblog anything for months because im busy lol) and that didnt start without a reason, it sure is a habit now and i really enjoy doing it, letting people know what i think about their stuff and putting nice things on display for others to see

reblogs are not just crucial for singular artists but also for fandoms as a whole, thats how you keep that train rollin

though here is a sad thing that many many artists dont reblog a lot, or reblog to their sideblogs that arent followed by nearly as many people as their main blogs

and thats like understandable, im the weirdo who puts a whole mess of many posts on my main but i think thats also the most effective way to help other people get traction and i never see this mentioned when people complain that tumblr users dont reblog as much stuff as they like

its even kinda funny to me when people complain about their stuff not getting reblogged when they dont reblog others stuff themselves at all xD though there is a bit of cyanide in that thought heheh

on the other hand reblogging doesnt work on stuff that i could see from other people: the stuff i reblog i get from browsing the bendy and the ink machine tag sorted by new + sometimes when i bored i scroll through my dash and reblog some random things but i follow 2k people so i dont really see any individuals art specifically, just a collection of random posts that i am able to scroll through in a few minutes (and every minute theres a bunch of new posts posted/reblogged by those i follow)

and that can take a long time! if ive been busy for months then scrolling through a few months worth of stuff people around the world made for bendy is so bad even on a beefy computer that it just pushes tumblr to its limits and takes HOURS to reblog and tag for me, and then i might even hit the daily post limit and have to continue tomorrow

but i enjoy doing this, bendy is my fixation after all and i fucking love art and what people can create for this thing that i like i soooooo desire to see it all

and i try to reblog as much as possible, though i dont obviously reblog *everything* from the tag, sometimes i just give a like or i just dont like the thing cuz its not in my liking and thats it

but i did make it a thing that during ink demonth i reblog all entries for the event no matter what my opinion of them is just to give some of that Exposure TM because hey maybe some of my followers Will like it

i dont run a super duper popular blog but there is a bunch of yall there and i think me reblogging something in this fandom at least may give a litol boost to the notes on a post

and its always fun to see peoples reactions that dont expect me to reblog from them but then i do and they freak out a little, i think i love it on the same level as getting comments on my own art :) its super wholesome

Hi!! I (girl i guess?15) am a demon! I became one when i almost died when i was a lot younger. Typical stuff, your dad tries to kill you to avoid a prediction from this hack medium but ends up fulfilling the prophecy anyways because he didn't realize the one gift he bought for me in my isolation was a mirror with Levi (demon, probably like 3000 yrs old) chilling inside and it liked me so it saved me :p

But back to the whole souls thing! I'm picky about what i eat!! I dont like, just go about the town murdering!

I seek out people that are evil, like my dad was. Its easy with the help of the folks that watch over me now - especially River (M 20somethin). He isn't magical at all, he's unassuming and kind, so people tend to trust him! And he's very serious about picking me the food i like to eat.

We seek people that suck - people that abuse others, hurt innocents and stuff like that. Usually I warn them to change once or twice, because i feel bad about this sort of thing, but River doesn't think i should starve myself like that or whatever :p i still like to give chances to redeem.

And if they don't do it, then they die! Usually River kills them for me. But he's had lots of close calls. He almost dies a lot, and he's only human. Honestly, most my friends are very mortal, and I worry if this diet of mine might be dangerous in the long run - especially if... certain angels come looking for me. Still can't believe that jerk, i thought he was supposed to be my friend...

But on the souls! It's also the only thing that gives me the nutrients to survive. I don't know what to do, or even if there's a way not to eat souls anymore :(

And also? Levi is still up there in my brain. He talks to me sometimes, and I try to let him have some out time and hold the reins to my body so to speak, but he only likes to if i almost die again. He gets scary. He's not picky about what he eats, and he hates how sweet bad souls taste. So i worry if i starve myself trying to find a cure, he might hurt my friends. He already doesn't like that River doesn't think i am a traditional demon. I don't know why it bothers him so much.

Oh - another plus to the demony thing, provided enough energy, i can grant wishes! And the powers come into the shape of these pretty gemstones. For example, though i didn't get to do this one, my best friend December (boyo, 16) has a wish stone that prevents him from being killed. As long as it's intact, wether you cut him, drown him or do whatever, he can't die! But he still can be hurt and incapacitated and I'm not good at healing magic, so if you do that to him, I'll kill you. Violently. He already needs mobility help, he doesnt need more!! I wanna make him another wish stone to help that, but he insists its okay. I hope these stones don't take physical tolls, now that i think of it...

Anyways back to the topic at hand!!! Is it bad that i eat souls? I'm trying super hard to be careful!! And if you have any suggestions of what i could do about this (that dont hurt Levi he's just sad and crusty and in my brain :( dont be mean), please lmk!
