Sir Pentious & Alastor: an underrated dynamic

"Show yourself, Alastor! Come and face--! Oh, there you are. FACE MY WRATH!"

Sir Pentious has been in Hell for much longer than Alastor. That means he was there when the Radio Demon appeared, and he's been trying to overthrow Alastor for decades! We know what Alastor is capable of, and what he could do if he truly wanted Sir Pentious to stop. He obviously doesn't register Sir Pentious as a threat, but that doesn't mean he's not annoying (like when he interrupts his song in the pilot and destroys a wall in ep2). Yet in all those decades, Alastor always let him go with the equivalent of a slap on the wrist, considering what he's done to other sinners in his broadcasts.

And why is that? Why, he must find Sir Pentious very entertaining, of course! Even though he calls Sir Pentious forgettable (to rile him up), there's no way a narcissist like him doesn't LOVE being the main focus of Pentious' "evil plans", as pathetic as they are. Not only does he give him the attention he deserves (like Vox), he's a true "architect of evil" who constantly reinvents himself to try and get the upper hand on Alastor. To Alastor, Pentious is like a sillier, weaker, more immature version of Vox with close to ZERO survival instincts but twice the creativity. Even Vox, who made a whole diss track about Al, wouldn't dare speak to him the way Sir Pentious does if they were face to face.

"SILENCE! Now cower! For when I've ssslain you, the almighty Vees will finally acknowledge me as their equal."

He does have some "oh shit" moments when he sees he crossed a line/is about to get Team Rocket-ed, but he still gets back up and attacks him again with all the unearned confidence of a man who has no idea how easy Alastor goes on him.

Just like Alastor, Pentious is attached to the aesthetics and technology of the time period he knew when he was alive, and still manages to innovate with those limitations. I think Alastor could respect that.

"You whores have no class! In war, the side remembered is the side with the most style!"

It's also funny that to Pentious, Alastor is the young, modern one. Some phrases Alastor uses are "young people slang" to him!

Alastor is one sarcastic bastard, and Sir Pent is one of the most naive characters in the show. He takes a lot of things way too literally (#autism?). That's just PERFECT for comedic misunderstandings between these two!

Before s1 was released there were quite a lot of ace!Pentious headcanons. I think we could still make a case for closeted ace-adjacent!Pentious in canon! Possibility even aroace!Pentious, if we interpret his crush on Cherri as compulsive heteronormativity (he loves her creative genius and is fascinated by her explosive contraptions; surely that means she's the one, right?)

Ace4Ace Alastor & Pentious would be a fun duo in my opinion. They could bond over their shared experience

On the topic of bonding... ("I have feelings for you" (Narrator voice: the feeling was friendship, but he had ever experienced it before)

Seriously, imagine Sir Pentious spending more and more time around Alastor because of the hotel, taking his sarcastic and mocking remarks literally and thinking they're becoming closer... And then being like. WAIT. Do I have feelings for him?? and trying to seduce him like he does with Cherri Bomb. The absolute shenanigans... Rizzlord Pentious strikes again.

Accidental fake dating scenario that only exists in Vox's head, where Vox, being the stalker that he is, spies in the two of them bonding and reaches all the wrong conclusions

Once Sir Pentious dies for the second time and ascends to Heaven, he could meet Alastor's mom 👀

EDIT: OH and How could I forget the Egg Boiz?? Egg Boiz babysitter!Alastor is canon and he definitely babysat them multiple times in the few months Sir Pentious spent at the hotel. Joint custody :3

AND let's not forget the important information that Frank the Egg Boy reported to Sir Pentious lol. The one Charlie made a deal with Alastor for. I can imagine Alastor considering killing the Egg Boiz/ Sir Pentious after learning Frank didn't keep quiet (Imagine Sir Pentious trying to engage in a conversation w/ Alastor and telling him what Frank told him as a joke akfkkd), spending a whole afternoon trailing after them and making plans, only to realise that the Egg Boiz say insane shit all the time and Sir Pentious was in fact NOT playing 4D chess by telling him he knew (and probably already forgot all about it)

Fucking...ship alphabet crap because I'm gonna go insane- (Ashlyn x Aiden)

Aiden Clark

A = Affection

Aiden is really affectionate with Ash, he has a hard time keeping in how he feels about her so he's constantly complimenting her, touching her, kissing her if she will let him, etc etc. He's just soooo in love with her he can't keep it in- 🫠

B = Best Friend

Ngl Aiden was like the closest thing Ash had to a best friend before they started dating 🤡 he's not that different besides the fact that he can keep his emotions a little more in check (like friend boundaries). Very protective, encouraging, and does his best to listen ^_^

C = Cuddles

Bless him he is touch starved and cuddling is like a feast to him. He LOVES cuddling. Definitely clingy and likes rubbing her arms or back. Man ascends whenever Ash glomps him.

D = Domestic

Aiden likes the idea of settling down, he would like to live with Ash at some point, especially cuz he grew up in an empty house. It's kinda unfortunate since he sucks really hard at domestic tasks 💀 he's never had to cook or clean a day in his life and he's not very inclined to learn lmao. He's super messy and pretty much banned from the kitchen 😭

E = Ending

Um he would literally rather die 🫠 he will fight tooth and nail to be with her and if he HAD to break up with her it would be like, under pressure that somebody was going to kill her or smth 😭 and then he'd kill the person who threatened her and go get his girl back.

F = Fiancé

He doesn't really care about getting married as long as Ash stays with him :P He likes how his ring looks on her finger tho.

G = Gentle

He's not very good at that haha. He's very...um, intense with all his feelings oop- He's not very good at being soft (verbally/emotionally) in the moment, it's something he needs to give thought too. He can be pretty tender physically tho, likes to kiss her forehead :)

H = Hugs

Loves loves loves hugging, especially if Ash initiated. Totally into squeeze hugging and lifting her off her feet. He kinda hovers around her in public and puts his arm around her so he's constantly "loose hugging" her.

I = I love you

He said it pretty quickly. He doesn't see why he should hide how he feels :p. He probably said it when she was just doing smth, like with no buildup or anything. It was just a very sudden feeling on his part and he vocalised it right away

J = Jealousy

Pretty consistently 🤡 he has attachment issues can you blame him? 😭 (you can). Very not cool with other people (that he doesn't know) talking, touching, hanging out with Ash and he will be hate-watching them the entire time. With Ash he gets a lot clingier and starts complimenting her even more, but if Ash gets weirded out/annoyed by it he tends to react pretty poorly and can get upset with her.

K = Kisses

His kisses vary, but they can be kinda aggressive/intense? lmao. He is just having BIG FEELINGS and he needs to express himself- if hes stressed he'll just. Grab her face and mash their mouths together (jumpscares Ash fr) He really does not care where he kisses Ash like everything is good for him, but when Ash kisses him first on the mouth that's soooo... he goes to heaven fr.

L = Little Ones

Pretty good with children actually! He has some experience with Lily and he vibes pretty well with kid energy, especially if they're hyperactive like him lol. Great with games and stuff. Babies like him a lot for some reason, they always start laughing when he holds them.

M = Morning

He gets up at like 4am all the time to do crap because he's an insomniac. Usually goes to exercise or play a video game/puzzle. Ash is not a morning person, but sometimes she can convince him to crawl back into bed and snuggle 😌

N = Night

He does go to bed really late 💀 He has an EXTREMELY hard time falling asleep so he just stays up till he passes out. Ash and him have been trying stuff to help him sleep better so they drink tea and talk to each other without looking at their phones.

O = Open

Absolutely not open with his history lol. he pretty much blocks out most of his past and he won't talk about it unless Ash insists or he feels like he needs to tell her to clarify his feelings. Doesnt say more than he needs to.

P = Patience

He has none for everything 🤡 he hates waiting, he hates putting in a lot of effort into something, he hates spending a long time on anything- (except his friends). He kinda has some hidden anger issues, he looks really easy going but like fr. He has problems.

Q = Quizzes

UM it's kinda creepy how much he remembers about Ash 😭 He has an entire space in his brain dedicated to her. He knows how she likes her coffee, her daily schedule, the exact time of her birth...he likes knowing about her sue him.

R = Remember

It's hard to pick his favourite memory cuz he's such a fan of her, even during the time she kinda hated him :> One of his top moments would probably be when she first said "I love you" back to him though.

S = Security

He's soooooo overprotective, the first time he saw her get seriously injured it was his fault and he never let that go. He knows Ash can handle herself but he still wants to keep her safe if he can!!! If somebody hurts her they are never seeing the light of day again ^_^ He always swoons a little when Ash tries to protect him too.

T = Try

His relationships are like one of the only things he actually puts effort in so. He spends a lot of time thinking on gifts, what they can do on dates, etc etc if it involves Ash. Helps her around the house if she lets him.

U = Ugly

He has sooooo many bad habits. He's super addict prone and his BPD means he will do a lot of self-sestructive stuff. Smoker (he hates it), drinker (he hates it even more), joyrider extraordinaire (just kill him now) :/ Working on it at his therapy sessions but he relapses sometimes.

V = Vanity

...I mean, he's concerned about how he looks, but not in a "looking good" way. He dyes his hair consistently because he wants to look like that, same with his contacts. Otherwise he's not like doing beauty routines for his skin or anything lol.

W = Whole

Yes he has an unhealthy attachment to Ash so he would feel incomplete without her 🫠

X = Xtra

Ash isn't his first 'relationship' but she is the first one where he actually felt something. He was pretty easy going so if somebody asked him to be their partner he almost always said yes, but he never seriously cared about any of them...🫠 Ghosted people a lot when he moved oop

Y = Yuck

He knows he has a lot of issues so like he's not gonna judge somebody a lot if they have their own vices. He would probably dislike if Ash started acting like himself lmao (you hate somebody because they reflect the worst parts of yourself) 🫠 For smth she actually does, he doesn't really like how cold she can be sometimes, but he knows she can't help it so he doesn't comment on it.

Z = ZZZ

Sleeps with like 4 different blankets and he doesn't really like wearing pyjamas, he'd sleep in his boxers if he could. The blankets are like, good texture stim on his skin :D

Ashlyn Banner

A = Affection

Not good with it let's be real. Still figuring out her boundaries and what she's comfortable with. She generally just let's Aiden set the pace and if she doesn't like it she'll say something, but it's rare for her to initiate, when she does its usually something lowkey like holding his hand (prefers physical over verbal).

B = Best Friend

Ash hasn't had friends. Ever. Until suddenly she got five that she got bonded to for life 🤡 As a bestie she is generally very loyal and protective, even if she isn't very good with emotional stuff, she tries to show her support in whatever way she can.

C = Cuddles

Not really something she thinks about a lot? She doesn't mind cuddling with Aiden but he is very touchy so she gets overstimulated quickly. She prefers just lying on top of him without him grabbing her.

D = Domestic

She always imagined living by herself so the idea is a little intimidating ngl, but she's ready to give it a shot when the time comes :> Good at household chores, her parents are ex-military so she's well disciplined with making the bed, cleaning her area of the house, and she's a decent cook. Trying to teach Aiden how to do his own chores to since nobody ever taught him.

E = Ending

She would end things if she felt like Aiden wasn't getting better, she can't keep letting his bad behavior slide her entire life. Could see them getting a divorce if they had a kid together and he was still acting like that (we hope not). Definitely the type of exes to still see each other though, he's nothing if not persistent, and she can't quite seem to quit him ^_^"

F = Fiancée

She didn't even think she'd ever get married lol. She doesn't really care about labeling their relationship like that but she did ask him for tax reasons. And he was happy too, so that's a plus :>

G = Gentle

She's said it herself, she's not good at that. She's generally pretty brash with Aiden and she has a hard time being vulnerable. She's also not a very physically gentle person either, she usually initiates contact if she's stressed/upset so it's kinda intense. She's working on it!

H = Hugs

Pretty rare, she doesn't mind if Aiden hugs her, but Jesus, sometimes it feels like he's going to break her ribs 💀 Not that her hugs are much better tho 🫠 Tends to bury her face in his shoulder and grab his hair.

I = I love you

It's soooooo hard for her omg. She can't explain why she just feels really weird/dumb saying it 😭 she usually only says it during the heat of the moment. To compromise with Aiden, she usually writes it down on a sticky note and gives it to him. Writing is easier.

J = Jealousy

Sometimes the autism rejection sensitivity flares up haha 🫠 she's waaaaaay less jealous than Aiden but sometimes she wonders if she's just a passing fancy to him because he's so intense and quick about it (before reminding herself hes loyal to a fault). If other people talk about it (like if Aiden has been spending a lot of time with somebody) she's more likely to get jealous since she will kinda internalize their thoughts (like very "what...? Do you think I *should* be jealous?")

K = Kisses

Supremely awkward. Doesn't understand what she's supposed to do with her mouth aldhlwhd. She likes kissing his cheek because its a very simple gesture and he gets very happy. Will combust if Aiden kisses her forehead ❤️

L = Little Ones

Not the besttttt...she generally finds children to be too emotional and she doesn't understand what they're feeling. Babies are scary to her, they're so...delicate...

She doesn't hate them or anything but she's not volunteering to babysit.

M = Morning

She is CRANKY when she gets up and you can't talk to her before her cup of coffee or she's going to bite your head off. When she gets to sleep in she's waaaaay more affectionate in bed, grabs onto Aiden so he won't leave :p

N = Night

Night owl, which is useful since Aiden has trouble sleeping. She'll keep him company until he can fall asleep, but usually she falls asleep on his shoulder or smth and Aiden has to take her to bed ^_^

O = Open

Not at all. Doesn't like revealing more about herself than necessary :> She only tells Aiden things if he asks her about it. They're both very closed off which is great combo 💀

P = Patience

She's more patient than Aiden, but that isn't saying much. She gets irritated very easily but she's a lot better at managing her emotions so she doesn't lose her temper very easily, even if she's constantly annoyed.

Q = Quizzes

She's not forgetful or anything about Aiden but it's also not something she thinks about a lot. Like if somebody asked her smth about him she'll just answer it without thinking and be surprised with herself lol.

R = Remember

She just likes spending time with him, they don't have to do anything grand or amazing for it to stay in her memory, her favourite moments are the little things. Aiden genuinely laughing/smiling, the look on his face right before he figures out a puzzle, the calluses on his fingertips when she holds his hand...she's actually very sappy :>

S = Security

She is overprotective because. She watched him die. And she's just like that. But she constantly feels like she's failing him since Aiden gets hurt so frequently. Protective in a more subtle way, like if she thinks he's going to spiral she locks his meds away and won't leave him alone for anything. She gets stressed out when he tries to protect her because he can go overboard :p

T = Try

She tries so hard you guys. All of this is VERY new and scary for her, so. Baby steps. Tries to do her part in the relationship; she likes the act of planning dates even if choosing what to do stresses her out, tries to surprise him because she knows he loves that a lot (she's not very good at it).

U = Ugly

Bad habits: Sometimes everything is a lot so she will just. Not communicate with him for a long time which freaks him out. (Like he doesn't do this too 🫠) Hard time talking about her feelings and sometimes relies on the gang to solve their misunderstanding. Sometimes doesn't know where to draw the line and can be too harsh on him.

V = Vanity

Only her hair. She's very careful with it. Otherwise she doesn't care at all.

W = Whole

She's kinda bonded to him for life cuz of all the trauma so yeah she wouldn't feel "whole" without Aiden, but she would handle it a lot better than he would.

X = Xtra

Talks to Taylor about her relationship problems; Tay thinks she just has bad taste 🤡

Y = Yuck

Really hates all of Aiden's bad habits (the self destructive stuff, his own apathy towards himself, how obsessive he is with her)

Z = ZZZ

When she becomes comfortable sleeping with somebody on the same bed, she'll let her hair loose, otherwise she's gonna keep the braids.

Thoughts I had during TGCF Season 1 the Recap!

Basically, I recap the First Season of TGCF with my reactions, before my Season 2 binge watch!

Ep 1

-Don’t go out there… don’t go out there… don’t go out there… don’t go out there… *Bride gets snatched* Okay, maybe you should’ve gone out there.

-Right after XL ascends, Lan Hai and Qing Tao then go, “Huh, Who is that?” Then everybody yells at them, “PRINCE XIE LIAN!”

-So much Property Damage…

-Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!

-Fu Yao, *Is sarcastic and rolls his eyes* Basically me: He’s just like me fr!!!

-Hehehehehehe Dick joke XD

-Sees Bride!XL: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I’m Sorry XD!

-Yeah right a few alterations, she totally fixed his make up calling it.

-*Sees Bridesmaids NF and FY like* W H E E E Z E XD XD XD XD

-So that’s how he was able to last longer than the previous bride

-Didn’t know it a zombie apocalypse happened in Ancient Feudal China (I need to brush up on my history)

-I love that when San Lang scared the Ghosts shitless they ended up running like no tomorrow, Ghost 1: Book it guys our lives depend on it! Ghost 2: But we’re already dead! Ghost 1: Well it’s just an expression!

-And there was only one bed. Oh my gods there was only one bed!!!

-Aw he caught him staring

-I believe you Ox cart man

-Heck with how popular TGCF is right now, Xie Lian would be worshipped today by fans like us

-His luck did rub off on you and you should take it all Xie Lian

Ep 6

-Woah, that old man is traumatized

-Of course being a martial god, he has experience in combat. Have you seen him in a sword dual at Yinian bridge? (Subtle Phineas and Ferb quote)

-Awww look at San Lang’s emo hoodie!

-And he drank the whole thing like a boss

-Now Nan Feng’s acting like an NPC from a fantasy video game

-And after Rouye grabs San Lang and Xie Lian says, “I didn’t mean San Lang”. Rouye goes: “Really? Ok!” And then lets him go, that’s just the hypothetical dialogue I’ve got for the silk band

Ep 7

-It’s official! Xie Lian is shorter than San Lang people!

-I’ve heard of a close knit unit but this is just insane!

-There’s so many people

-Ooooohhh That poor poor general

-SO MANY COBRAS!

-Oh no and 4’s an unlucky number in China

-He is sucking the venom out like a G! Get yourself a man like San Lang people!

-You know we’re all thinking what Xie Lian’s thinking about how he’s going to clean San Lang’s bloodied lips (I’ll let you share your answers in the comment section)

-And Fu Yao’s stuck with merchant sitting

-Really lovely desert travel music!

-Yeah he does know an awful lot

-Uh oh the woman in the black cloak spotted them

Ep 8

-Thank you San Lang for protecting your man like a champ!

-Ooooh cool more Ban Yue lore!

-And San Lang’s expression, is worried if he hurt him, but it worked!

-He’s gonna jump into the pit, he’s jumping into the pit, he jumped into the

-He touched his throat!

Ep 12

-We are back in Puqi village folks

-I freaking love how Xie Lian says ‘The Crimson Rain Sought Flower’ Howard Wang’s voice could act as my new sleeping aid

-Oh yeah San Lang does treasure you dude

-Ban Yue, I think you should keep living despite all the mistakes you’ve made… other than that I also don’t know the answer like Xie Lian

I think a lot about Wrio allowing himself to indulge and gaining some weight as a way of healing, he went hungry for a long part of his life, but now he gets to be safer, to eat his fill and go to sleep with a full tummy. I also think of Neuvillete encouraging him to do it so, cherishing his softer body and rubbing his tummy, empty or full, which is great bcs Wrio not only lived starved of food but of affection too. i feel like so many canon profile bits and exchanges with him point to him being quite an indulgent character already; slacking off work, turning up his nose at the less desirable welfare meals, strolling around fontaine's patisseries, taking little tea breaks whenever the opportunity arises. as he deserves to!

given that he's said to be seen visiting bakeries while on duty in the overworld, i like to think he has a sweetooth :3 perhaps neuvillette often brings him pastries and cakes as gifts whenever he visits during work hours. he invites him to furina's famous tea parties whenever the chance makes itself available (one of which is sure to be hosted each time the warden has official business to discuss in the court of fontaine, no matter how trivial.) he is always delighted to see him treat himself, and wriothesley is just as happy to satisfy his sweet tooth on such a decadent feast; not only did he never think he would have the opportunity to live so luxuriously, but also because now he believes he deserves to do so, no longer holding back from his desires out of guilt and little self worth.

not only does he give in to his newfound large appetite, but neuvillette rather likes to indulge him too. he brings him out to restaurants and orders fine foods and wines - a gloved finger pointing out the dishes on the menu as he orders for the both of them. at furina's tea parties, he offers him another slice of cake or suggests which desserts to try next, even as wriothesley places a hand on the swell of his quickly filling stomach.

"kouign-amann pair quite well with ginger tea. i must say this batch has been baked long to perfection," he muses, delicately pushing a plate across the table to wriothesley, who is still making his way through the gâteau he insisted he try. "though if you are drinking something sweeter, i would suggest a few canelés, or this pear tarte tatin. what do you think, furina?"

"the red wine caramel is exquisite, wriothesley."

"these macarons from lucerne's, though, are truly delectable. they are still light and crisp from this morning."

"let me breathe first." wriothesley swallows, smiling fondly at his enthusiasm to see him eat well. (and, really, breathing may become slightly more challenging if he continues on like this.) "i haven't even finished the last few you so kindly bestowed upon me."

ofc i believe wriothesley is so weak for having his tummy rubbed in the first place - neuvillette's warm hands are the perfect balance of heavy and firm but gentle, and just feel so inexplicably nice - so when the deep circles he rubs into his belly are accompanied by the pleasurable feeling of being full of baked treats or a yummy dinner, he quite positively ascends to heaven. and when his lavish lifestyle inevitably fills him out and he amasses a few extra inches on his waistline, the iudex's hands on his newly senistive tummy send him out of this world entirely. falling asleep is a difficult thing for wriothesley, but under these circumstances - whether neuvillette is settling a meal in his stomach or simply providing affectionate rubs - he feels safe and cared for in his arms, and despite fighting it, sleep takes over him and he's snoring lightly into his boyfriend's shoulder. indulging is a fun little hobby, but having somebody to indulge with - somebody to pamper you - is much preferable.

(also consider - tummy kisses. neuvillette is absolutely over the moon when the soft cushioning of wriothesley's tummy means he can easily take it between his teeth, trailing little love bites over the gentle curve of his belly. or simply just pressing his lips to his warm middle in soft, adoring kisses, much to wriothesley's blissful delight.)

Gospel (Except USA) John 1:43-51 You will see heaven laid open, and the Son of Man.

After Jesus had decided to leave for Galilee, he met Philip and said, ‘Follow me.’ Philip came from the same town, Bethsaida, as Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, ‘We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, the one about whom the prophets wrote: he is Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth.’ ‘From Nazareth?’ said Nathanael ‘Can anything good come from that place?’ ‘Come and see’ replied Philip. When Jesus saw Nathanael coming he said of him, ‘There is an Israelite who deserves the name, incapable of deceit.’ ‘How do you know me?’ said Nathanael. ‘Before Philip came to call you,’ said Jesus ‘I saw you under the fig tree.’ Nathanael answered, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel.’ Jesus replied, ‘You believe that just because I said: I saw you under the fig tree. (i) 5th January, Friday before Epiphany

Dublin people often have a prejudice about Cork people. It is sometimes expressed in the saying, ‘The only good thing to come out of Cork is the road to Dublin’. That is city prejudice, but there can be small town prejudice too, and we see something of that in today’s gospel reading. We learn from the final chapter of John’s gospel that Nathanael was from Cana in Galilee, which is not too far from Nazareth. When Philip finds Nathanael to tell him that he had found the long awaited Messiah, Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth, Nathanael replies, ‘From Nazareth? Can anything good come from that place?’ Perhaps he would have said that the only good thing to come out of Nazareth was the road to Cana! It has to be said that Nazareth was a small village, off the beaten track, with no claim to fame; it isn’t mentioned even once in the Jewish Scriptures. Yet, something, someone, wonderful came out of Nazareth. This very ordinary place was the home of God’s only Son, the Word who was with God in the beginning and who was flesh in Nazareth. Having met Jesus for himself, in response to Philip’s invitation, Nathanael began to see that there was much more to Jesus than he could ever have imagined. He went on to confess, ‘You are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel’. However, even that insight was only the beginning of Nathanael’s journey of discovery. Jesus promises him, ‘You will see greater things… You will see heaven laid open and, above the Son of Man, the angels of God ascending and descending’. Nathanael will eventually come to appreciate that Jesus was the one through whom heaven was coming to earth; this man from this very ordinary village, Nazareth, was God in human form. We can all be tempted to ask a version of Nathanael’s question, ‘Can anything good come out of this place, out of this situation in my life, out of this person… out of me?’ The gospel reading is reminding us that the ordinary is often charged with the presence of God. Something good, something of God, can come out of any of us, even when we seem to ourselves to have little to offer.

(ii) 5th January

This morning’s gospel reading describes something of Nathanael’s faith journey. He starts from a position of scepticism. When Philip tells him that he has found the Messiah and that he is Jesus, son of Joseph, from Nazareth, Nathanael dismissively asks ‘Can anything good come from Nazareth?’ However, when Philip subsequently invites him to ‘come and see’, Nathanael suspends his scepticism for the moment and responds to Philip’s invitation; he comes to Jesus. When Jesus then addresses him in a very personal way, Nathanael goes on to confess Jesus as the Messiah, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel’. Like Philip, he too has found the Messiah. However, Jesus then tells Nathanael that he has only begun to see, and promises him, ‘you will see greater things’. His journey is only beginning. Nathanael began his journey in a very inauspicious place, but he soon made progress and Jesus assured him that he would make greater progress. We can sometimes feel that our own relationship with the Lord is not all we would like it to be; we can feel ourselves in an inauspicious place with regard to the Lord. However, such a place need not determine our future relationship with the Lord. With the Lord’s help, we can make unexpected progress, like Nathanael, and, like him, we journey onwards sustained by the Lord’s promise, ‘You will see greater things... you will see heaven opened’. This promise will only come to pass fully in eternity when we will truly see heaven opened, but even now we can begin to see and to experience something of that heavenly destiny that the Lord desires for us all.

(iii) 5th January

Nathanael’s initial assessment of Jesus was rather negative, ‘Can anything good come from Nazareth?’ Yet, this was not to be his final assessment of Jesus. By the end of the gospel reading he exclaims, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel’. Nathanael needed time to see that there was more to Jesus than met the eye, that, in reality, there was a goodness in Jesus that was unique. Unlike Nathanael’s initial assessment of Jesus, Jesus’ initial assessment of Nathanael was very positive, in spite of Nathanael’s earlier dismissive comment, ‘There is an Israelite who deserves the name incapable of deceit’. Jesus did not need time to see the good in Nathanael; he saw it immediately. The gospel reading suggests that whereas most people need time to see the good in others, the Lord sees the good in us immediately. The Lord is more attuned to the goodness in others that we are. Realizing that is both consoling and challenging. It is consoling to know that the Lord recognizes the goodness in us that others may not recognize and that we may not even recognize ourselves. It is challenging in that we are called to see others with the Lord’s eyes, to recognise the good qualities that are there, even though they may not be obvious or expected.

And/Or

(iv) 5th January

Nathanael is one of those intriguing characters in the gospels. He only appears in the gospel of John. When Philip bears witness to Jesus of Nazareth before Nathanael, he dismisses Philip’s witness, ‘Can anything good come from that place?’ In the last chapter of John’s gospel we are told that Nathanael was from Cana, which wasn’t very far from Nazareth. Perhaps people in Cana had a rather dusty opinion of people from Nazareth. Nathanael’s starting point with regard to Jesus was one of extreme scepticism. Some of us may have found ourselves in that sceptical place on our faith journey, at least for a time. Like Nathanael, we were inclined to pour cold water on other people’s faith. Yet, Nathanael did not stay in that place; he moved on from there. It was Philip who helped him to move on. Philip wasn’t put off by Nathanael’s initial scepticism; he stood his ground and called out to Nathanael, ‘Come and see’. We are living in a sceptical age and the scepticism of others can be a real test of our own faith. Like Philip, we need to stand our ground so that our lives of faith become an invitation to others, ‘Come and see’. The Lord did not think any the less of Nathanael because of his initial sceptical attitude. When he saw Nathanael coming to him he said, ‘Here is an Israelite who deserves the name incapable of deceit’. The Lord saw the good in Nathanael, the openness in him to faith. The Lord is not put off by our own slowness to respond to his call. He continues to work in our lives, very often through others. Nathanael went on to justify Jesus’ belief in him by making a great confession of faith, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel’. Scepticism can be the prelude to deep faith. Indeed, Jesus told Nathanael that he would come to see even greater things; he would grow even further in his faith. No matter where we are on our faith journey, there is always room for growth, there is always more to see, more the Lord wants to show us.

And/Or

(v) 5th January

Nathanael is a gospel character who appears only in the gospel of John. Philip had recently come to recognize Jesus as the long-awaited Jewish Messiah and he wanted to share his new-found faith with Nathanael. However, Nathanael gave him short shrift, ‘Can anything good come from Nazareth?’ When someone responds to our faith in that kind of dismissive tone, it can be quite undermining of our faith. Yet, it seems that Philip’s faith was not undermined by Nathanael’s scepticism. He gently persisted with Nathanael, inviting him to ‘come and see’. As a result, Nathanael made his way to Jesus and went on to make a very strong confession of faith in Jesus, ‘you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel’. Nathanael had come a long way, even though he was still at the beginning stages of his faith journey. As Jesus said to him, ‘You will see greater things than that’. Yet, he was, at least, on the journey of faith, rather than sniping from the side lines at those who were making this journey. The person of Philip can be an encouragement to his all. He witnessed to his faith gently but powerfully, even in the face of great resistance. His faith was rooted in his own encounter with Jesus, rather than being dependant on how others responded to his faith. Our own faith too will remain strong if it is rooted in our own personal encounter with the Lord. That encounter, that relationship, will allow us to go on believing even in an environment that is unsupportive or, perhaps, hostile to our faith. If we remain faithful and keep witnessing to our faith, we might be surprised at the ways the Lord can draw others to himself through us, even sceptical Nathanaels.

(vi) 5th January

Have you ever found yourself responding negatively to a suggestion or a sharing from someone, and then thinking further about it and having a change of mind and heart? I certainly have. Someone makes a suggestion to me about the parish and initially I respond with little enthusiasm. I can only see the downsides, the problems, the complications, the demands it might make. Then over time, I begin to see the suggestion in a different light. I come around to seeing that maybe there is something worthwhile here after all. In that regard, Nathanael reminds me of myself. Philip came up to him to share his enthusiasm for Jesus of Nazareth declaring that he and others had finally found the Messiah that the Jewish Scriptures had foretold. Nathanael’s initial response was dismissive, ‘From Nazareth? Can anything good come from there?’ In the next chapter of John’s gospel we learn that Nathanael was from Cana, not too far from Nazareth. The people of Nazareth may have asked the same question as Nathanael about Cana! We can all be prone to dismissing people on the basis of where they are from or where they were brought up or the colour of their skin or whatever. However, thanks to the gentle persistence of Philip, ‘Come and see’, Nathanael came to see Jesus in a much different light, declaring, ‘You are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel’. Something wonderful could come out of Nazareth after all. Jesus assures Nathanael that he has only begun to see, ‘you will see greater things than that’. What a wonder promise of Jesus. The next time we meet Nathanael in this gospel, he is to be among the group of disciples who went back fishing after the crucifixion of Jesus, to whom the risen Lord appeared. Nathanael did indeed see greater things. When it comes to our relationship with the Lord, where we begin is not so important, because the Lord can always move us on, if we are open to being led by him. In the course of our earthly lives, the Lord is always inviting us to see greater things, to see him with new eyes, until that eternal day beyond this earthly life when we will finally see him face to face.

•big baker. likes those “2 ingredient” recipes they see on youtube. ends up just baking chocolate chip cookies because somehow they manage to mess up the two ingredient recipes (me fr) and loves sharing them with their friends.

•has anxiety, and worsens when they’re separated from their friends (spirals & all that. I imagine them hiding under blankets when they’re left alone & hear a noise.)

Dry as hell though, I like to think they made a dozen of them and couldn't take eating more than 2 (and ate through the rest of it with the assistance of icecream cause they ain't wasteful.)

I also like to think of them as being more into baking cause I think it's funny if it were to mirror Mallek and him being more into cooking. Him being able to cook and add shit in that he think would make something taste good with no precision or measuring while Mspar really enjoys the patience, time, and precision that comes with baking (that could just be my mspar/mallek brain tho who knows hdjdajaj)

3. Yeahh. Poor litol Mspar.. I imagine as much as they love being social and being around friends, but they'll want to have time at points to recoup and rest. But even then, that's mostly due to being out and about constantly physically. Mentally, when they do take a night or two for themselves, they still like to text and call. They like to be around friends. Alternia isn't an easy place, they love it for the friends they have now but a lot of the violence and the feeling in the back of their mind of them never feeling safe outside is something that can take its toll on them for the worst. Which is something even shown in friendsim in Konyll's route.

ALSO AGAIN SAME HC. I really like to think when they're upset, when they're feeling unsafe, when they're just so anxious, lonely. They crawl underneath the covers of their blanket pile and bundle themselves up tightly. It's the thing that can at least give them some small amount of comfort when a friend isn't there to provide them that.

Proper 17 A, 2023

Matthew 16:21-28 (NRSV)

"Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and undergo great suffering at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, "God forbid it, Lord! This must never happen to you." But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; for you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things." Then Jesus told his disciples, "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life? For the Son of Man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay everyone for what has been done."

Just last week we read about Jesus asking his disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter answered for them all, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven."

In one week we hear Jesus praise Simon and give him the name Peter, and the next week we hear Jesus confront him as Satan, commanding Peter to get behind him. What happened and what elicited such a rebuke from Jesus?

All through his earthly ministry, Jesus often said to his disciples, and to people upon whom he had performed a miracle, "Tell no one you know me". What an odd thing for the Messiah to say, the same Messiah who would rise from the grave and ascend into heaven, charging his disciples to proclaim his Gospel to all peoples. Every human messiah, prophet, and ideologue has always done the opposite, thrilling their disciples to make them famous and gather a great following. But not Jesus. So, what changed? What had to change?

The change came slowly. Up to the moment of his crucifixion, his disciples, as with most Jews of the era, were expecting a warrior king messiah who would galvanize the people of Israel and destroy their enemies, restoring the kingdom of Israel and maintaining it with power and strength. As often as Jesus preached about who he was and is, and how the kingdom of God would come about, and as often as he talked about his impending death, it seems that the disciples had selective hearing, just like us. They saw the miracles, the impossible miracles, and all they could see was the power he had. Somehow they missed his humility, and his repeated teaching that God’s kingdom would not come about by swords or human endeavor.

It is understandable that the Jewish people of the age, including his disciples, longed for freedom from the oppression of the Roman Empire. It is understandable how being ground under the heel of an overwhelming enemy can create generational feelings of setting anger, a desire for vengeance, and a heart filled with wrath. It is the same today for hundreds of millions of people living under the oppression of governments based on Leftist ideology or countries engaged in wars. It is entirely understandable to wonder "Where are you, God?" when famine, disease, human trafficking, war profiteering, and all manner of evil seems to go unchecked. We all want a messiah who will get rid of all oppression and suffering.

But Jesus was teaching us something different. As NT Wright so wisely put it,

"When God wants to sort out the world, as the Beatitudes in the Sermon on the Mount make clear, he doesn't send in the tanks. He sends in the meek, the broken, the justice hungry, the peacemakers, the pure-hearted, and so on."

The temptation to seek to redress the problem of evil by human endeavor is strong. We secretly think that God is moving too slowly, or not at all. This makes us profoundly susceptible to manipulation by the evil one into looking for human messiahs or messianic ideologies like the Leftist utopian vision. The problem is that every time these messiahs, prophets, revolutionaries, and wicked political ideologies are enshrined, greater human suffering is the inevitable result.

We are not able to engineer the kingdom of God by ourselves. Only God can do that. We cannot engineer our return to Eden. Only God can do that. To trust that God can, and is, working out his plan of salvation, and bringing his kingdom ever closer, takes the kind of faith that is only a gift from God. And to many people, if not most, this feels weak, inadequate, and even foolish.

Even so, this is what we are called to believe and hope for, even as we are called to put our hope solely in the Lord. Don’t you think Jesus ever had the thought that he could do what his people wanted him to do? We know it was on his mind from his words to his disciples when they and the guards who came to arrest him pulled swords on each other,

"Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the scriptures be fulfilled, which say it must happen in this way?" (Matt. 26:54)

That is why Jesus rebuked Satan speaking through Simon Peter, because it offered him a way out from his cruel torture and crucifixion. It was the one thing that tested him, as we see him praying in the garden of Gethsemane just before his arrest, illicit trial, humiliation, torture, crucifixion, and death, a prayer that obviously cost him dearly,

"‘Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.’ And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground." (Luke 22:42)

If even our Risen Savior struggled, so we continue to struggle. The disciples did not truly learn this crucial lesson until Jesus ascended into heaven before their eyes and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit not many days after. It was only after their ideas of what a messiah ought to do and be had turned to ashes in their mouths, that they could become empty of their plans so that they could be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, that their eyes, hearts, and souls were opened by the gift of faith given by God to see that God is still sovereign, and God is bringing his kingdom in his own timing. Our ideas of who God should be, and when and how he must act, also have to finally die if we hope the be filled with his Holy Spirit.

Until that day dawns, we are equally called to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus to all nations, teaching them to obey everything that Jesus has commanded, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and living in the awareness that Jesus is with until the end of this age. If any of us are lacking such supernatural faith, let us pray to the LORD our God, that we might fully place all our hope in him, and be given supernatural grace that we might endure all things until the day that the Lord Jesus shall return,

"For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will by no means precede those who have died. For the Lord himself, with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call and with the sound of God’s trumpet, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will be with the Lord for ever. Therefore encourage one another with these words." (1 Thess. 4:15-18)

Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.

Amen.

I’m so glad you like APFTTU, it’s my first foray into a fully-planned multichapter fic, and I’ve really been blown away by how well it’s been received, but wow, people fangirl over my work? Consider me struck dumb! I do try my best to get back to commenters, but I’m taking a wee bit of a break due to academic-related burnout and also I’ve sort of fallen out of the Encanto fandom, but not to worry, I have every intention of finishing APFTTU, it’s just not my first priority in terms of WIPs anymore.

I’m so glad you like my characterisation and the OCs, I was initially very nervous about them since I myself am not a fan of OCs, but it’s great to see people enjoy them! I’ve even gotten a little attached to them myself 😅 And speaking of, I think my favourite OC would have to be either Javier, Elsi and Ariel, mostly because I based them off myself and my best irl friends. (I’ll let you guess which one is meant to be me ;P)

Oh, and as for the family reunion… I can tell you it’s due somewhere between chapter 14-16, but I sincerely doubt it’ll be the reunion any of you expect ;)

Platformer elevator pitch

The basis for my platformer came during brainstorming during the first tutorial, using The Games Design Workshop by Tracy Fullerton we want to set player experience goals. Though the premise of a platformer is relatively simple we the object of getting to point A to point B through use of jumping and obstacles through verticality having a reason for the players to keep playing through use of gameplay that is first most engaging and unique in its mechanics. to keep the mechanics nice and fluid want to add modern day platforming elements, from destiny 2 I would like to incorporate a double jump mechanic and ledge grabbing to be lenient when a player miss jumps barely, this will lead to players not getting mad when they think they clearly made a jump. And like the classics such as Mario adds some sort of collectible system such as coins. I want the player experience to be using player memory and multi-dimensional problem solving. My moment-to-moment gameplay will be that of going upwards in one area and downwards in the other. Included with the elements mentioned before in my gameplay will be the opportunity for the player sprite to teleport between maps at the press of a button with the location coordinates in one map lining up with the other. what makes it compelling is that instead of combat to take on enemies and landscape obstacles the player uses this mechanic to overcome the blocked paths. The game will be aimed at ages 13 and up due to imagery and content of gore which I will explain why in just a second. The player takes on the role of a lost soul navigating the afterlife and trying to find where his final resting place belongs to. The motivation for the player will be making it through each layer being 9 in total over both dimensions with the genre being action adventure.

The setting takes place in a heaven and hell and takes inspiration from Dantes divine comedy, the player descends through hell and ascends through heaven layers. Not all blocks in each dimension are shared and safe blocks are called purgatory blocks where the player can stand on them to safely teleport between both dimensions to assess what their next move is, these blocks also act as a checkpoint. If an enemy is in the way in Hell such as a demon they may want to teleport to heaven to bypass it but there could also be archangels on the other side just as deadly. In hell layers mainly concerned with going downwards while in heaven you want to go up. To prevent overlap you are also mainly going right so its not just a constant loop. The work in progress name is layers to rest.

The teleportation idea came from the game Titanfall 2 where the player can teleport between the modern day and past of a scientific facility to kill enemies and bypass objects with just the single press of a button, also pulled is the concept of the ascendant plane from destiny 2 where the entire universe has a mirror pocket dimension of itself used by enemies for traversal or monarchs as throne worlds, the player character in Destiny is also able to use portals to go between these places though not as seamless as just pressing a button.

My elevator pitch would be:

"layers to rest is an 13+ rated action adventure that has the player's soul shortly after death trying to find if their souls belongs in either heaven or hell and what their reward/punishment is. The player can seamlessly move between heaven and hell with the press of a button and can navigate these newfound afterlife's by soul-splitting. This 2D platformer draws on modern and classic platformers and relies on players thinking outside of their dimensional box to overcome their eternal end."

Since the game deals with afterlife may contain disturbing horror images and themes related to hell such as self-harm, gore and blood or disturbing angelic imagery related to heaven.
